One Night Promised
One Night Trilogy- Book 1
By Jodi Ellen Malpas
Synopsis
Livy notices him the moment he walks into the coffee shop. He’s heart-stoppingly stunning, with a blue-eyed gaze so piercing she’s almost too distracted to take his order. When he walks out the door, she thinks she’ll never see him again. Then she finds the note he left on his napkin . . . signed M.
All he wants is one night to worship her. No feelings, no commitment, nothing but pleasure. Every defense mechanism Livy has adopted during her solitary life is at risk of being obliterated by this confounding man. He’s obnoxious but well-mannered. He’s a gentleman but aloof. He’s passionate but emotionless. Yet the fascination is so powerful, Livy can’t deny him… or herself.
M awakens something in Livy, something deep and addictive that she never knew existed — and that she fears only he can satisfy. But she senses that behind the fast cars, fancy suits, and posh apartment, he’s aching inside. To have him, body and soul, she’ll have to brave his dark secrets. Delving into his world and breaking down his defenses become her obsession – an obsession that could shatter her heart beyond repair..

Kristyn’s Review
Livy is a young woman who holds herself back. She works in a coffee shop and takes care of her Nan. She doesn’t drink, or party. She is too afraid of what losing control could make her do. Too scared of becoming just like her mother.
Abandoned at a young age, Livy grew up knowing that her mother was gone, and not coming back. But at the age of 17 she found a copy of her mothers journal and discovered that she sold her body for material things. Livy dove head first into that world so that maybe she could figure out what the draw was. What made her mother abandon her for the men who used her body for money and trinkets?
But Livy didn’t find the answers she hoped she would. So she went back home and back to taking care of the only woman who she could count on. She gave up alcohol and men. She didn’t date or go out at all. Livy couldn’t separate those things from the type of person her mother was, so she didn’t indulge in them at all.
But Livy’s world was spun on it’s axis when an arrogant man with bright blue eyes walked into her coffee shop and had the nerve to leave a note telling her that the coffee was crap.
The mysterious M was handsome and put together and entirely too prone to snobbery for Livy. But those things couldn’t make her not interested, even thought she wished they would. There was just something about that arrogant man that fascinated her. There was a spark that neither of them could deny.
“Twenty-four hours.” That was all he offered. A night of passion and the best sex she would ever have. It was too close to being just like her mother. Too much like selling herself for pleasure. So she ran off and hoped to never run into Miller again.
But he couldn’t stay away. He wouldn’t stay away. So they gave in to the spark. They gave into the pull and the promise of passion. But once was never going to be enough.
This book was a tumultuous ride from start to finish. Livy and Miller shouldn’t have worked. They shouldn’t have made sense together. Miller with his OCD and Livy with her refusal to be anything like her mom. But they had something they couldn’t ignore. A connection that made sense somehow.
But Miller was closed off and no matter how much Livy wanted him to, he didn’t open up. And when the truth came out, it was too much to ignore. Too hard to accept. And left too many unanswered questions.
Promised is a well written story about imperfect people, in an imperfect relationship. You will spend a lot of time mad at Livy and Miller but you want them to be together anyway. Nan is hilarious. And Miller is likeable even though he is stuffy and obsessive with neatness.
I can’t wait to find out what happens next. Thankfully it’s not a long wait.
