Synopsis

From the author of the New York Times bestselling Bad Boys novels comes another dark, sexy story…

Is she brave enough to give her heart to a man she only thought she knew?

He was the most charismatic man I’d ever met. Strong, tough, brave. Bold as hell. Something told me Tag Barton could have anything—anyone—he wanted…and he wanted me. It didn’t matter that he was wrong for me in practically every way possible. It didn’t matter that my father would hate it.

I couldn’t resist him. Even if I’d known who he really was and what he was really capable of.

When he suggested we pretend to be engaged, I thought he was the answer to all my problems. He wasn’t. And, in his wake, he left nothing but scorched earth and me, just another casualty of my father’s war.

Can I believe him now when he tells me he loves me? Or is he nothing more than a beautiful, breathtaking lie?

Tracey’s Review

Within minutes of talking to Tag today, I quickly surmised that he’s dangerous. To hearts, to minds. Certainly to panties. Mine feel in danger of combusting just watching him, for heaven’s sake. Which is unlike me. In fact, all of this is pretty unusual for me. I can’t remember the last time I was so immediately and thoroughly intrigued by a man, or the last time I considered doing anything with such reckless abandon. I don’t even flirt! Maybe that’s why this is too tempting to me-it’s not something I would ever do. He’s not someone I would ever do. And maybe that make him perfect.

When Weatherly O’Neal escapes to Chiara, the family winery that has been her happy place since childhood, it is with the goal of showing her father that she is her own woman, capable of deciding how to live her life for herself. Looking for solitude and a reprieve from her father’s meddling, she is not expecting to run into Tag Barton. Tag, former Special Forces agent, and son of Chiara’s caretakers, is sexy, interesting, and has a few secrets of his own. Soon enough, the two are involved in a way that neither anticipated.

Michelle Leighton is one of my go-to authors. When I begin one of her books, I have no doubt that I will fall completely in love with it, and BRAVE ENOUGH is no different. Having met Tag briefly in TOUGH ENOUGH, I was more than ready for his story.

Family means everything to Tag. And now that his mother, who has overseen the caretaking of Chiara for his entire life, is sick, Tag is determined that she will never be displaced from her home. When Weatherly shows up, intent on avoiding the arranged marriage that her father has in mind, the pieces come together, and Tag sees an opportunity for both himself and Weatherly to get what they want. But neither one was expecting that what started out as a passionate encounter that led to an opportunity too good to pass up would turn into so much more. And when secrets are revealed and hearts broken, Tag and Weatherly will have to decide whether what they have is worth fighting for.

“You know, when I was in Delta Five-that’s the Special Forces team that I was a part of-they used to call me the brave one. I was always the first one in, always the one rolling, balls out, into our mission. I wasn’t afraid to die or get shot or get stabbed or burned or whatever. I knew I could handle whatever came my way, even death. My parents had bred that into me. To go after what I want, to be fearless and bold. And I always did. I was never afraid of losing. Until now. Until you. I’m brave enough to face knives and guns, death and torture, discovery and capture, and the only thing I’ve ever known that scares the living s*@t out of me is losing you.”
When I open my mouth to stop him, he keeps going, giving me no chance to speak.
“I know that might not mean much to you, but it means everything to me. I screwed up. I admit it. But I never saw you coming. I never thought I’d meet someone like you, someone who could bring me to my knees with a look or a touch. I wasn’t prepared. But now I am. Now I am.”

Oh, Tag. This man, this man who has everything planned out, who loves with his whole heart, who is fierce, and brave, and, yes, sexy as all get-out, this man stole my heart. Because he wasn’t expecting to be completely overtaken by emotion, to lose himself completely in a woman. But, when he does, the way he loves is soul-deep, and I am all in.

Michelle has written this book with her usual beautifully constructed words, with a passion so palpable that it comes off the page, leaving me with a book hangover and a happy heart. 5+ stars for BRAVE ENOUGH; I cannot recommend enough that you grab this book and devour it.

A note from M. Leighton: I love coffee and chocolate, even more so when they are combined. I’m convinced that one day they could be the basis for world peace. I also love the color red and am seriously considering dying my hair.r.
