Dane James worked my stepfather’s fields. He was the boy next door.

Strong.

Hardworking.

Forbidden.

From the moment we met, we were star-crossed lovers—always wanting, never having. We loved each other for most of our lives, but right from the beginning destiny had other plans. She knew we would fall in love. She knew we would fall apart. Over and over again, like the curse of a recurring nightmare. Or the hope of a familiar dream.

Our past was tumultuous. Our future was bleak. But the one thing we always had was the beautiful now.

Until that was taken from us, too.

EXCERPT:

(12 YEARS OLD)

We fell silent as he stepped into the field. He tugged me along behind him and I gladly followed him through the waist-high ocean of feathery crop. It swayed in the moonlight, silvery waves tossed gently back and forth by the warm night breeze. I held out the hand that wasn’t curled in Dane’s and let the thin stalks trail between my fingers.  Their fluffy caps tickled one palm as Dane’s calloused skin warmed the other.  I drew in a gulp of air and held it in my lungs.  Something about the night felt perfect and…valuable, like it was special in a way I wouldn’t see much of in my life. I sure hadn’t up to that point. I didn’t want to let it go, so I held it inside me, trapped with the sweetly-scented air, for as long as I could hang on.  Until I had to let it go.

In the moment I exhaled, I knew being with Dane James was right.  Even though I’d get in trouble if I were discovered, I didn’t care.  I couldn’t.  Somehow with this boy I didn’t know, who had the prettiest eyes I’d ever seen, getting in trouble seemed small.  And he seemed big.  Bigger than life.  He was worth the risk. I didn’t really understand it, but I knew it intuitively.  My weakness for one boy, for the one wrong boy, was already taking hold. He needed me as much as I needed him and the rest didn’t really matter.

Dane led me deep into the field, so deep I was beginning to worry that we were going to get lost.  We’d come so far I couldn’t even see the light from my window anymore. The farther we walked from the house, the darker the night appeared to grow.  The faint glow of the moon overhead was our only light and Dane James was my only measure of security.  He was all I had to hold onto.

He was my anchor.

He was my compass.

Dashing Through The Snow

 A Sexy, Snowy Christmas Tale

By M. Leighton

Buy: Amazon / B & N / ITunes / Kobo

Synopsis

A dash of perfect for the holidays!

Dilyn Hart hates Christmas, so when her boss (and ex-boyfriend) hands her an assignment to interview champion snowboarder and gorgeous playboy extraordinaire, Dash Grainger, on Christmas Eve, she takes it. There are several things she doesn’t plan for—a surly driver, a chalet in the middle of nowhere, a freak snowstorm—but the biggest surprise of all is Dash himself.

Dash Grainger lives for the high, and so far in his twenty-six years, he’s never met anyone or anything he loves more. Nothing has ever thrilled him as much as slick snow, cold air, and breakneck speed.

Until he meets Dilyn.

But one perfect night doesn’t mean clear, blue skies the next day. Some storms can’t be weathered.

Christmas might just be one of them.

Tracey’s Review

Christmas is no time of joy for reporter Dilyn Hart, so when she catches a story that will take her away from the hustle and bustle of holiday time, she’s all in. Off to Colorado she goes, ready to go head to head with snowboarding’s golden boy, Dash Grainger. Who knew what 24 hours, a whopper of a snowstorm, and s’mores like Dilyn’s never had them could bring?

If Michelle Leighton writes it, it’s a foregone conclusion that it’ll be at the top of my reading list. I’m a fan of everything that she does, but her sexy, light-hearted reads really make me smile, so I knew that DASHING THROUGH THE SNOW was going to be a win for me. No disappointment here, because I loved, loved, loved this sexy, sassy little book, and zipped right through it like it was my favorite chocolate.

Dilyn and Dash have an immediate connection, and, while I scoff at insta-love with the best of them, I was all in here. Because the heat, y’all, the absolute sizzle sparking between the two of them was practically jumping off the page. You know, the kind that sort of makes you blush, giggle, and look over your shoulder to see who’s around while you fan yourself? Yeah, that. Miss Michelle writes love scenes like nobody’s business, and, man, was she ever on point here.

Beyond the, you know, sexy times, Dilyn and Dash immediately share something that is really special. Dash is definitely much more than Dilyn was expecting, and the reality of him is eye-opening. They bring out things in each other and just round each other out in ways that they didn’t expect. Fast? Yes, but totally believable, and I loved every minute of it.

I mean, I just had no idea he’d be this…this…much. This gorgeous. This charismatic. This charming and fun and sexy and…That he’d have this way of stealing time and reason, and making me feel so much in such a short period of time.

Although Dilyn may have started out a humbug, she’ll never look at Christmas the same way again, and what a wonderful thing. Thank you, Michelle, for 5 stars worth of love, laughter, sizzle, and pop. What a nice present for this holiday season.

Synopsis

Four beautiful days. Three steamy nights. One breathtaking love.

Levi Michaelson.

He wanted four dates. Four opportunities to prove I could trust him. Four chances to change my mind about him.

I agreed.

Probably not my smartest decision. He was everything I knew to avoid—gorgeous, charming, sexy as hell—but I couldn’t help myself. When he touched me the whole world disappeared. I should’ve known I could lose myself to him, that he could be the one man to destroy me.

I guess it’s true what they say—some things are too good to be true. And Levi Michaelson might just be one of them.

Tracey’s Review

Evie de Champlain may be blind, but she refuses to be defined by her disability. Because, although she can’t see with her eyes, Evie calls on her her memories and her other senses to create true works of art. Levi Michaelson is enchanted by Evie when he meets her at one of her art shows, and it isn’t long before the two are spending all of their time together. Not everyone wishes Evie and Levi well, though, and their newfound happiness is put to the test soon enough.

I have been a fan of Michelle Leighton for a very long time. From the twisty, intriguing storylines of her Bad Boys series, to the tautly suspenseful Tall, Dark, and Dangerous series, to the heartbreak and redemption of POCKETFUL OF SAND, to the mind-blowing and amazing THE EMPTY JAR, Michelle manages to write evocative and creative stories that grab me every single time. I guess what I’m saying is that Michelle hasn’t written a book that I haven’t loved, so when I had the opportunity to read LEVI’S BLUE, I jumped at the chance.

Evie is truly amazing. A firm believer in making lemonade from the lemons that come her way, she has taken what could have been a devastating turn in her life and made it into something wonderful and beautiful, something that enriches not only her life, but those of the people that get to see her creations. And, while she could have been bitter and angry over everything that happened, she’s instead open and humorous and joyful.

Levi is a man with secrets. Since I’m keeping this spoiler-free, suffice to say that there is plenty going on under that sinfully sexy and engaging surface. I think that one of the reason that he is so attracted to Evie is that she is wide open, sharing her gifts and her heart with everyone around her, and it just calls to him. And, I have to say, once the “ish” hits the fan, and his secrets are revealed, Levi is a man on a mission to plead his case and prove himself worthy of forgiveness and love. Being in the dog house never looked so good, and he definitely have won my heart.

I thoroughly enjoyed LEVI’S BLUE. The story is unique and fresh, the characters are funny and sexy and strong, and the dialogue had me smiling throughout (well, when I wasn’t crying right along with Evie, that is). And, while I enjoy a cliffhanger as much as the next person, I am a big fan of a story where everything gets wrapped up, so the epilogue was a perfect touch for me. Thank you, Michelle, for this beautiful story, one that will stay with me for a long time to come.

Title: The Empty Jar

Author: M. Leighton

Release: May 8, 2016

Today is cover reveal day for M. Leighton’s upcoming new release entitled The Empty Jar. She wanted to say a little something about the cover before she revealed it and the description, so here she is.

First of all, a huge, heartfelt thank you to every single one of you amazing women who is helping me reveal this cover today.
I appreciate everything you do for me, for authors and readers in general and for this community.

Secondly…

OMG
IT’S FINALLY TIME FOR THE EMPTY JAR COVER REVEAL!!!

I feel like I’ve been waiting AGES to share this with you!

This cover… GAH! Y’all, it took me forEVER to get it just right. There was a certain “feel” that I wanted to achieve with it and I wasn’t happy until I felt that it jumped right out when I looked at it. I wanted the cover to speak of the book, wanted it to show the highs and lows, the sweet and the poignant, the depth of it, if you will. And finally…finally, I feel like it does:)

You might not realize just how much NOW, but once you read it, you’ll be like, “Yeah. It’s perfect for this book!”

When I got the paperback proof in the other day, I held it in my hands and I just stared at it. Not only is this story extremely special to me, but this is probably my favorite cover of all my books. Ever.

When I look at it, I see so much more than just a picture. I see all the things that I find in life as well as what I put into the story that is The Empty Jar. It’s a blend of happy pinks and brooding blues. It’s light and it’s dark. There are highs and there are lows. There is morning and there is night. But if you notice the sky on this cover, there are little flickers of brightness in the bodies of the lightning bugs. Life is that way, too. Even in the darkest part of the night, there is a spark of hope.

There is beauty. There is the romantic glow of a full moon, the silvery face of your mate, the delicate twinkle of fireflies. It’s all there if we look hard enough—that balance of beauty and tragedy.

And love.

Always love.

Below is a little more about the book. It’s hard to tell you much without spoiling anything, but I think you can get a feel for it. It’s such a special story. So raw, so real.

I honestly can’t wait for y’all to read it! I hope you love IT and the cover as much as I do:)

Tracey’s Review

We share the kind of love that picks you up when you stumble, the kind of love that catches you when you fall, the kind of love that rescues you when you need saving.
The real kind of love.

Nate is my “in sickness and in health.”

Nate is my “until death do us part.”

Nate is the staying kind.

Lena and Nate Grant are true soulmates, a team, the yin to each others’ yang. When life takes a series of unexpected turns, their commitment and love will be the things that leave them able to navigate the landscape of a life that neither could have anticipated.

Michelle Leighton has left me breathless, bereft, a sobbing mess, and, finally, uplifted, with THE EMPTY JAR. Although I had an idea of the story that I would be reading, nothing could have prepared me for the flawlessly beautiful book that Michelle has crafted. THE EMPTY JAR is a story of the many faces of love, the love of a spouse, of a friend, of a mother, of a father. Rich with emotion and rife with unexpected turns, I could not put this book down.

I do not want to ruin this experience by giving too much of the story away. Suffice to say that this is a book that I give my highest marks too, and one that I will tell everyone to read, because I love it so very much. Michelle has shown us a part of herself that we have not seen in her other books (all of which I LOVE, by the way), an intimacy that comes through in every word of THE EMPTY JAR. 6 stars, and a recommendation that everyone read it. Thank you, Michelle Leighton, for sharing yourself with us, and giving us such a wonderful book. You are most definitely in my jar.

Brave Enough

A Tall, Dark, And Dangerous Novel – Book 3

By M. Leighton

Buy : Amazon / B & N / ITunes / Kobo

21bc7-goodreads

Synopsis

From the author of the New York Times bestselling Bad Boys novels comes another dark, sexy story…

Is she brave enough to give her heart to a man she only thought she knew?

He was the most charismatic man I’d ever met. Strong, tough, brave. Bold as hell. Something told me Tag Barton could have anything—anyone—he wanted…and he wanted me. It didn’t matter that he was wrong for me in practically every way possible. It didn’t matter that my father would hate it.

I couldn’t resist him. Even if I’d known who he really was and what he was really capable of.

When he suggested we pretend to be engaged, I thought he was the answer to all my problems. He wasn’t. And, in his wake, he left nothing but scorched earth and me, just another casualty of my father’s war.

Can I believe him now when he tells me he loves me? Or is he nothing more than a beautiful, breathtaking lie?

5Star

Tracey’s Review

Within minutes of talking to Tag today, I quickly surmised that he’s dangerous. To hearts, to minds. Certainly to panties. Mine feel in danger of combusting just watching him, for heaven’s sake. Which is unlike me. In fact, all of this is pretty unusual for me. I can’t remember the last time I was so immediately and thoroughly intrigued by a man, or the last time I considered doing anything with such reckless abandon. I don’t even flirt! Maybe that’s why this is too tempting to me-it’s not something I would ever do. He’s not someone I would ever do. And maybe that make him perfect.

When Weatherly O’Neal escapes to Chiara, the family winery that has been her happy place since childhood, it is with the goal of showing her father that she is her own woman, capable of deciding how to live her life for herself. Looking for solitude and a reprieve from her father’s meddling, she is not expecting to run into Tag Barton. Tag, former Special Forces agent, and son of Chiara’s caretakers, is sexy, interesting, and has a few secrets of his own. Soon enough, the two are involved in a way that neither anticipated.

Michelle Leighton is one of my go-to authors. When I begin one of her books, I have no doubt that I will fall completely in love with it, and BRAVE ENOUGH is no different. Having met Tag briefly in TOUGH ENOUGH, I was more than ready for his story.

Family means everything to Tag. And now that his mother, who has overseen the caretaking of Chiara for his entire life, is sick, Tag is determined that she will never be displaced from her home. When Weatherly shows up, intent on avoiding the arranged marriage that her father has in mind, the pieces come together, and Tag sees an opportunity for both himself and Weatherly to get what they want. But neither one was expecting that what started out as a passionate encounter that led to an opportunity too good to pass up would turn into so much more. And when secrets are revealed and hearts broken, Tag and Weatherly will have to decide whether what they have is worth fighting for.

“You know, when I was in Delta Five-that’s the Special Forces team that I was a part of-they used to call me the brave one. I was always the first one in, always the one rolling, balls out, into our mission. I wasn’t afraid to die or get shot or get stabbed or burned or whatever. I knew I could handle whatever came my way, even death. My parents had bred that into me. To go after what I want, to be fearless and bold. And I always did. I was never afraid of losing. Until now. Until you. I’m brave enough to face knives and guns, death and torture, discovery and capture, and the only thing I’ve ever known that scares the living s*@t out of me is losing you.”
When I open my mouth to stop him, he keeps going, giving me no chance to speak.
“I know that might not mean much to you, but it means everything to me. I screwed up. I admit it. But I never saw you coming. I never thought I’d meet someone like you, someone who could bring me to my knees with a look or a touch. I wasn’t prepared. But now I am. Now I am.”

Oh, Tag. This man, this man who has everything planned out, who loves with his whole heart, who is fierce, and brave, and, yes, sexy as all get-out, this man stole my heart. Because he wasn’t expecting to be completely overtaken by emotion, to lose himself completely in a woman. But, when he does, the way he loves is soul-deep, and I am all in.

Michelle has written this book with her usual beautifully constructed words, with a passion so palpable that it comes off the page, leaving me with a book hangover and a happy heart. 5+ stars for BRAVE ENOUGH; I cannot recommend enough that you grab this book and devour it.

Pocketful-of-Sand250I donít know what makes a great love story. Is it that instant attraction when boy meets girl? The passionate kisses and the fairy-tale ending? Or is it a lifetime of tragedy, paid in advance, for a few stolen moments of pure bliss? The pain and the suffering that, in the end, you can say are worth it for having found the missing piece of your soul?

The answer is: I donít know. I donít know what makes a great love story. I only know what makes my love story. I only know that finding Cole when I did, when Emmy and I were running from a nightmare, was the only thing that saved me. That saved us. He was more broken than I was, but somehow we took each otherís shattered pieces and made a whole. If that is what makes a great love story, if that is what makes an epic romance, then mineÖours is the greatest of them all.

Contains material that some may find disturbing. Not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Tracey’s Review

There are books that just absolutely sweep you away, that touch you so completely that you have to sit with it once you’re done and just be. To say that I think this book is amazing would be an understatement. There are not enough ways for me to express just how much this book affected me, and how wonderful I think it is.

I have long been an avid fan of Michelle Leighton. Her stories are always full: love, joy, angst, and, yes, pain, Michelle writes all of these emotions so very well. Her characters most often have pasts that have left them not quite whole.

“Sometimes I think broken people gravitate toward one another, like our shattered pieces connect on a level that unscarred people never know.”

Both Eden and Cole have faced things in their pasts that would have leveled lesser people. That they are able to find in each other, brokenness and all, a connection and a safe place is a testament to love and healing. This is not a simple love story, though, and Cole’s and Eden’s journey to each other is not without challenges. I think that this is part of what makes Pocketful of Sand so powerful, because the characters and their story are more real.

“I’ve been alone a long time, and not once have I ever felt lonely. Bereft, yes. Angry, hell yes. Bitter, remorseful, hopeless, yes, but never lonely. Not until you. You changed everything…And I wasn’t prepared for that. I wasn’t prepared for you…

I hear him shift and then I feel the feather-light brush of his lips on my forehead, the tip of my nose, the curve of my cheek.

‘I know you’re awake. And I love you,’ he says quietly, his mouth near my ear.”

Michelle has captivated me with Cole, with his anguish, his self-imposed solitude, and with his heart. And Eden, fighter that she is, overcomer that she is, along with little Emmy, deserve every single bit of happiness that comes their way.

I can’t say enough times that Pocketful of Sand should be on your must-read list. It is certainly one of my favorites of 2015, and if I could give it more than 5 stars, I would. Thank you, Michelle Leighton, for this heartbreakingly beautiful book.

About M. Leighton

mleightonNew York Times and USA Today bestselling author M. Leighton is a native of Ohio. She relocated to the warmer climates of the South, where she can be near the water all summer and miss the snow all winter. Possessed of an overactive imagination from early in her childhood, Michelle finally found an acceptable outlet for her fantastical visions: literary fiction. Having written over a dozen novels, these days Michelle enjoys letting her mind wander to more romantic settings with sexy Southern guys, much like the one she married and the ones you’ll find in her latest books. When her thoughts aren’t roaming in that direction, she’ll be riding horses, swimming in ponds and experiencing life on a ranch, all without leaving the cozy comfort of her office.
