I write stories set in places I
love with characters I’d be happy to call friends. The women in my books are self-confident,

challenge of capturing the sweet soul of a woman whose heart they’ll hold in
the palm of their hand forever.

EXCERPT:

Someone walked in front of her cell, quiet as a shadow.

A man, this time. He hadn’t been among the five who’d come for her. She would have remembered him.

Her abductors were stunning. This man…was something else. The smile, the bright eyes, the delicious mouth. He made her want to be his with one glance. Magnetic. That was the word for it. His very presence was a weapon.

Mel took a step back.

“Chatty,” he said, voice soft and velvety, like dark chocolate sauce on top of a strawberry.

He smirked. Another weapon, and he honed it like a master who knew just what sort of effect he had on women.

“Lessara wants your beating heart seasoned with bluebells and golden apples.”

“Gross. Raw meat without salt?” Mel always had a smartass retort at the ready. Right now, she half wished she could take it back when the boss’s smile broadened.

“I hear you killed Coder. A brute and an idiot, but he was skilled enough. How?”

He was demanding an answer. Demanding she show her neck to the wolf and reveal all her secrets.

“Come here. I’ll show you.” Now she was really bluffing. With no water in sight, she had no hope of using her magic against him. As for physical combat, she could tell—she just knew—he’d make a chew toy of her and spit her out.

“Sassy,” he said. “I like sassy.”

She wondered if he meant he liked to eat sassy.

“I denied Lessara’s request, for now. I am bored, and I see that you may entertain me well enough for a time. So you get to keep your neck on those pretty little shoulders, as long as you’re fun. How does that sound?”

She hated the way he was looking at her. Like she was a helpless rat and he, a playful cat. “Sounds like you’re a megalomaniac deluded enough to think that I won’t slit your throat and get back home before my next book club meeting.”

Again, he laughed. “That might prove to be rather difficult.”

On that note, the man—the Aos Si—walked away, toward the light.

She glared until he was out of her line of sight, but a movement to her right caught her attention. The wall opposite the door was moving. A panel slid away, giving her a window to the outside. There still was a transparent, vibrating energy wall between the outside and here, but she could see out now.

Her jaw fell open.

She’d been right. They were in a transport.

A transport advancing toward a flat land set on a cascade of golden fire. A strange world with seven circles of land and right at its center, a large blue tree with white leaves and flowers red as blood.

In the distance, she could see a large reddish-brown planet with black spots like a Dalmatian’s. It had four rings similar to Saturn’s around it.

That planet, she knew. She’d seen illustrations of it, and heard about it in her tutelage, many moons ago.

Unless she was much mistaken, the planet was Tartarus. And as for the world they were approaching at high speed…

Mel gulped. “Old man?”

“Aye.”

“Tell me this isn’t what I think it is. Tell me we aren’t in Sidhe.”

Exclusive Excerpt:

“I warned you I could not protect you.” The boy winced as she bent forward to his ear. “So, stay close and you may just survive.”

Caim paused. He’d been mistaken. This wasn’t weakness. This wasn’t naivety. She was simply certain, absolutely certain, that she was in no danger here.

That she’d made it five minutes without any weapon had surprised him. Now, it didn’t.

Tired and spent as she was, her every move was fluid and precise. A Gaian darkling came from the side with a blade; she tilted her pelvis forward, and the blade hit air. She reached for the attacker’s hand and pushed it back to his skull, all the while avoiding another hit on her left shoulder.

Water.

She moved like water.

If she’d had a sword in her hand, Caim knew she could have made short work of all the prisoners, and most of the lords, no doubt. But she seemed content to let them murder each other, simply defending herself—and the boy holding on to her like the lifeline she was.

His lips parted and a delighted laugh escaped him. He laughed like a child, with enchantment, astounding himself and anyone who was paying attention to him.

She didn’t spare the boy another glance, but she let him stick to her. Grace and indifference. She was cruel. Cruel, untouchable, and beautiful.

They were supposed to watch slaves butcher each other. Instead, they were graced with a dance worthy of a fairy queen.

Chapter Reveal: Raphael by Tillie Cole – A Deadly Virtues Novel

They are the Fallen. A brotherhood of murderers whose nature compels them to kill. But guided by their leader, Gabriel, the Fallen have learned to use their urges to rid the world of those it is better off without.

For Raphael, sex and death are intertwined. Where there is one, there must be the other. He is a lust killer, luring his victims with the face of an angel and a body built for sin.

And Raphael lives to sin.

His newest mission takes him into the sadistic underworld of Boston’s secret sex clubs, and puts him face to face with his greatest fantasy made flesh.

Maria is everything he’s ever dreamed of, the kill he’s always longed for. She’s not his target. And he knows he must resist. But the temptation is too strong…

Yet Raphael is not the only one with a mission. Maria is not quite what she seems. And as her secrets and Raphael’s unravel, Maria begins to question everything she thought she knew—about evil, about the place she calls home, and about the beautiful sinner she was sent to destroy.

Dark Contemporary Romance. Contains sexual situations, violence, sensitive and taboo subjects, offensive language and topics some may find triggering. Recommended for age 18 years and up.

The Fallen: Genesis a prequel novella in The Deadly Virtues Series and MUST be read before RAPHAEL (DV: book one).

The sound of Gabriel’s Gregorian chant music drifted up the Tomb’s steep, winding stairs. Raphael ran his fingertips along the gray stone walls. They were damp underneath his skin, slick with the stagnant water that trickled in from the overflowing lake outside. Forest-green moss crept in through cracks and fractures in the brick, betraying the manor’s age.

With every step he descended into the candlelit darkness, Raphael’s heart began to thunder into a heady velocity. The string that forever sat on his right index finger was so tight he could feel his pulse throbbing in the very tip. He focused on the rhythm of the beat, on the tightness of the string wrapped around and around and around his flesh. A fire of pleasure broke out in his chest and surged through his veins at the tightness, the suffocation, the hedonistic asphyxiation of the digit. It was a denial of blood, of the life his finger needed to survive, to thrive—to exist. Raphael’s lip kicked up in a smirk. He knew the tip of his finger would be blue, starved of the sustenance it needed to function. He hissed out in pleasure when the fire that vision ignited darted straight to his cock. Raphael didn’t care if his brothers heard him moan out loud. They would be caught in their own heads, their own excitement of possibly getting the kill, to care—they never cared.

Raphael felt Michael breathing heavily behind him, affirming his point. He knew Michael would be stroking the vial of blood around his neck while almost coming in his leather pants at the thought of sinking his sharp teeth into a vein and sucking down the blood. Gabriel told them Michael had something called hematolagnia. He had a word for what he claimed “ailed” all of them.

Nothing ailed them.

Gabriel just didn’t understand the way the six of them were, the way they had to be. The six of the Fallen who were nothing like Gabriel. They liked to kill. Needed to as much as they needed to breathe. It wasn’t abnormal to them. Blood and flesh and cries of pain inflicted by their hands didn’t bring repulsion, only satisfaction.

It was simply who they were.

Out of all the brothers, Raphael was closest to Michael. But right now, each of the brothers was completely alone. The Revelation ceremony brought out the utmost selfishness in them.

The chance to bring death consumed them.

Controlled them.

And Raphael wouldn’t have it any other way.

Raphael’s cock grew hard in his jeans at just the thought of taking someone’s last breath. He pushed the heel of his hand against his crotch as the blood rushed to it, but the burst of painful pleasure that spiraled up his spine only made him groan louder. The rubber cage he always wore around his dick constricted his flesh and began to strain, biting into him as the rubber rebelled against his hardening. The BDSM contraption was designed to bring pain. And it was successful; pain it brought. But Raphael didn’t see pain as a punishment. He lived for pain. The more agony he felt, the more pleasure he felt. He basked in the throttling of his penis, relished the choking of his erection as it tried to break free of the rubber constraints.

Raphael lost his footing, his back slamming into the wet wall. He barely even noticed his shirt growing damp as his eyes closed. All Raphael could focus on was the cage’s incessant strangling. His hands curled into fists as the addictive fire ravaged his body.

Flashes of his ultimate fantasy poured into his mind, fueling his ecstasy. He was powerless. He couldn’t stop them if he tried. But why would he? It was what inspired him to get out of bed each day, birthed every single breath his lungs inhaled. What he had waited years for, and would wait a lifetime more to capture. Raphael’s breathing became deep and labored as he imagined the scene—the king-sized bed, the red rose petals thrown on the pure white Egyptian cotton comforter. And her, the one, sprawled out for him on her back, naked, a temptation made true. Her cheeks would be flushed, and her lips would be cherry red. Her skin would be so soft, no blemish in sight, eyes bright and fixed on Raphael, piercing his gaze with nothing but adoration. She would be his, and he would be hers. There would be nobody else for either of them. She would be his one possession that he would have for all of his days.

Raphael knew his pupils were dilated beneath his closed lids—oddly colored golden-brown eyes that set him apart from everyone else. His greatest tool, eyes that lured in his victims—meaningless women he would chase for a while, seducing, enticing, making them enamored with everything he pretended to be . . . before he pillaged their lives, fucking them hard as death collected their souls, releasing into their dying bodies as he consumed their final heartbeat and breath with his unyielding hands.

Raphael’s eyes snapped open when he heard the church bell echo around the stone basement—Gabriel’s signal to robe for Revelation. As he descended the final steps, the tight rubber cage around his cock caused pre-cum to leak into his jeans. He lived for the sexual strangulation. He needed it as much as he needed to breathe.

Raphael realized he was late. He raced through the wide wooden door of the Tomb. His brothers were already in robes, the heavy hoods covering their heads as they silently awaited his arrival.

About the ELEMENTS OF FIVE series

One thousand years ago, there was one realm of magic. The Maison Realm. It held five kingdoms with five kings or queens, who worked together to keep the Maison people safe and ensure the balance of magic. Over the last five hundred years following the Fall, the great war that began the fracture, many of the kingdoms’ inhabitants intermated, and the magics soon became tied to one another in pairs. Except for the Spirit Wielders. The two remaining kingdoms are now converging, and the veil between the two is fading. Only the human realm lies between the two, and no one there knows there is a war surrounding them.

Over time, certain children of the Fall began to leave their respective kingdoms to venture into the human realm in search of the prophesied Spirit Priestess who is said to wield the Elements of Five and bring the two fractured kingdoms together. For the realms are dying without their sister magics. And soon, there will be no more power left to rule the kingdoms, for there will be no more kingdoms left to rule.

EXCERPT:

I almost tripped over my feet at the sight of three people standing in front of a house I knew, the trio glaring at one another before seeming to realize that they weren’t alone.

I knew them, of course, it was hard not to know the teenagers in my neighborhood since most of us went to the same high school—or rather, had. Those who hadn’t gone there, opting for homeschool or private schools, still ended up in many of the same social clubs that a lot of us were forced into over the years.

Okay, so maybe forced wasn’t the best word for me since I’d tried a bunch of things as a kid, attempting to figure out what fit me best. The fact that nothing had stuck wasn’t something I wanted to dwell on at the moment, however.

Why?

Namely, the two girls in front of us, and the guy standing with them. The very tall, very built guy that was a couple of years older than us but who I thought always looked like the most perfect human specimen. Ever.

Rhodes Luce.

If I allowed myself to use words like dreamy for a guy, he was beyond dreamy. His light brown skin always looked silken and almost shiny as if he’d just finished a run and was glistening under the sunlight. His brown hair wasn’t just a normal hue, it had what looked to be honey highlights woven in and was longer on the top than on the sides, giving him a disheveled look that made me want to reach out and mess with it myself.

Not that I would ever do that.

Ever.

Not even in dreams.

I swore I saw a shadow again out of the corner of my eye when I thought the word dreams, but I ignored it and pinned my gaze back on Rhodes as I stopped in place, my friends beside me.

Anytime I was near him, I couldn’t stop staring. It wasn’t just his strong cheekbones. Wasn’t just his beauty.

No, it was his eyes.

They were so light, I swore they were silver. But people didn’t really have silver eyes.

Rhodes, though? He totally could.

He wasn’t alone, so I did my best to pry my eyes from him as I awkwardly waved at the bunch. To his left, Rhodes’ younger sister, Rosamond, smiled brightly, her tunic dress blowing in the wind. I was pretty sure Rosamond had been a hippy in a past life and just hadn’t wanted to stop fitting into the era. It worked for her with her flowing curls and almost luminescent brown skin. She looked like a New Age fairy or something, and the way she spoke and acted fit the description.

She’d graduated with the rest of us a few weeks ago, but I hadn’t seen her since.

On Rhodes’ other side stood another former classmate of mine. Alura.

And if I thought Rosamond was strange, Alura was even more out there. Her long, white-blond hair blew in the breeze that I swore sometimes only affected her—not that that was a thing, though it sure seemed like it. She had the most vivid blue eyes I’d ever seen, like something out of a movie with special contacts, and she rarely spoke.

Honestly, I hadn’t even known that Alura was friends with Rhodes and Rosamond, but the three definitely seemed to know each other.

“Oh, hi!” Rosamond said, skipping toward us. “I was just talking to Rhodes and Alura about a hike tomorrow and was going to come by and see if you wanted to go, Lyric.”

I blinked. I hadn’t really hung out with any of them outside of school, and never with Rhodes. Sure, I had an awkward crush on the guy, but it wasn’t as if I’d truly spoken to him beyond a few short words since he and Rosamond moved to the neighborhood a couple of years ago. He’d already graduated by that point, so we hadn’t gone to school together, and I rarely saw him in the neighborhood since his parents worked a lot and I never saw them.

“A hike? Really?” Emory scoffed.

Rosamond glanced over at Emory, seeming to dismiss her with a single look. “Since we’re going to the same campus, Lyric, I figured it would be nice to hang out a bit. You know? Oh, you guys should come, too,” she said to Braelynn and Emory. “It’s going to be a great day, and this way, I’m not hiking alone with Rhodes, who gets all growly when I’m slow.”

“I don’t growl.”

And yet…he totally just growled.

Was I a puddle of goo just then? Because I felt like I was a puddle of goo.

Emory glanced at me, and I had a feeling I wasn’t hiding my inner thoughts well.

Holding back a curse, I smiled at Rosamond. “I think a hike would be fun. It’s supposed to be good weather. What did you guys have in mind?”

Rhodes shrugged, and I did my best not to stare at his forearms as he stuffed his hands into his pockets. “A place we like to go to. It’s about an hour outside of the city, but not too far. And the hike isn’t that bad since Rosamond here can do it.”

“I can hear you,” she sing-songed.

“I know. I can see you.” He gave me a wink, and I almost looked behind me to make sure it was me he was looking at.

From Braelynn’s subtle nudge and Emory’s almost inaudible growl, I figured it was me he’d been looking at.

Oh, my.

“What about you, Alura?” Braelynn asked, always the peacekeeper—and an amazing friend.

The other girl shook her head. “Not this time. It’s not for me.” She met my gaze with those piercing blue eyes and didn’t blink. “But soon, I believe. Soon.”

And with that, she turned and walked away without another word. The Luce siblings didn’t look worried about what had just happened, but Emory rolled her eyes.

“No wonder they call her a witch.”

“Be nice,” I whispered. “Stop being so mean.”

“Whatever. I have a thing with my parents tomorrow, so count me out.” Emory looked over at me as if I should say no, as well.

I truly didn’t understand the girl who had once been my closest friend and my first girlfriend. She wasn’t who she once was. But the thing was, I wasn’t either. Maybe that’s why it was good that things were changing as quickly as they were.

“I’m in,” I said quickly.

“Me, too,” Braelynn added.

“What time and where should we meet you?” I ignored Emory standing at my side, trying to push back the little twinge inside me that indicated that this was just one more symbol of the end of an era.

Rosamond clapped her hands. “Oh, yay! I can’t wait.”

Rhodes looked at me, his eyes flashing that silver I thought had to be contacts. “I can’t wait either.”

I bit my lip as they told me the details, and I did my best not to look too excited. Because this wasn’t a date. It wasn’t something that was a new beginning. Not really. It was just a hike, a day out in the mountains, something all Coloradoans did as much as possible—at least the ones who loved nature.

And yet, even as I told myself that, I wondered if it was the truth.

Because this felt different. It felt important.

And for some reason, I didn’t think it was only about the boy with the silver eyes in front of me.

And to help him find the long-lost sword that could save the dragons forever…

Sabina remembers the stories her grandmother told her. Legends of dragons and kings, fire and ice. And she’s never forgotten the dark prophecy that filled her ancestors with fear—a fate they tried to prevent by stealing a Dragon King’s sword. Sabina knows that helping Roman is dangerous. Praise for the Dark Kings series:

“Provocative [and] sizzling.” —RT Book Reviews (4 stars)

“A must-read.” Night Owl Reviews

Excerpt:

The sun blazed fiercely as it crested the mountains and poured its light into the valley and straight into Romans workshop.

He paused and closed his eyes as he soaked up the rays. In his mind, he was flying high in the sky, his wings slicing through clouds as the warmth of the sun wrapped around his body.

Roman allowed himself just a few more minutes of the memory before he opened his eyes and took a deep breath. Then his gaze returned to the two-foot-tall metal dragon hed made. He ran his hands over the silver scales. It was to be a gift for Ulrik.

Now that the King of Silvers had returned to Dreagan where he belonged, it was time the Dragon Kings got down to business. First up was V. His friend had suffered long enough.

Roman placed the sculpture in a box filled with tissue paper and closed the lid before taking it and striding toward the manor. On his way to the great house, Roman saw V standing outside, his gaze directed eastward.

Roman placed the gift outside of Ulrik and Eilishs room before he made his way to V. They stood side by side for several quiet moments, each lost in thought.

While every Dragon King had suffered in some way, the betrayal V bore hit Roman hard. None knew why someone had taken Vs sword and hidden it. Sadly, they hadnt had much time to search for it after the theft because they were at war with the humans and then they sent the dragons away.

After that, each of the Kings found their mountains and slept away centuries. They woke in turns, but Roman knew Constantine, the King of Dragon Kings, had always kept a lookout for any weapon that even came close to matching the description of Vs sword. Many of those were in the armory because Con sent the Dragon Kings to retrieve the weaponseither by buying, bargaining, or stealingto see if any were Vs.

All the while, V remained asleep in his mountain on Dreagan. The few times V woke, his need to search for his weapon overruled everything else. And the outcome was always disastrous for mortals. Which was why Con made sure that V remained asleep.

Until there was no choice but to wake all the Kings to fight a foe bent on revealing them to the humans.

You doona have to do this,V stated without looking at him.

Roman shook his head. Same old V.

Piercing blue eyes swung to him. Vs gaze narrowed. Whats that supposed to mean?

It means that you still doona understand. All these thousands of eons, and you still believe that you have to do this on your own.

Its my sword.

Roman glanced at the ground and tried again. Aye, old friend. It was your weapon that was taken, but how many times have you gone searching alone?

A muscle ticked in Vs jaw.

How many of those times resulted in catastrophic events?

I didna set the fire in Rome,V argued.

Roman held up his hands. No one said you did.

Nor did I cause the Black Plague. Or—”

None of it happened until after you woke and went looking for your sword,Roman interrupted. Im noblaming you. Im simply stating facts.

V stared at him for a long moment. I lost my sword. I should be the one to find it.

I agree, but theres no harm in having help.

You control metal, Roman. Its Kellan who can find it. If any King can help, it would be Kellan.

Roman cocked a brow. Ill try noto be offended.

V ran a hand down his face. That wasna my intention.

Youve spent most of our countless centuries asleep. Youve nointeracted with the humans. Or anyone, for that matter.

So you doona trust me alone?

We all want you to find your sword. Its time. And Im going to make sure that happens.

V looked off into the distance once more. I can noremember where I lost it.

That doesna matter. Its probably long gone from there anyway.

His head jerked to Roman. You know where I lost it.

Roman held his gaze for a long moment, hesitating just a heartbeat before nodding. Aye.

Do the others?

Fuck. This was so not how Roman wanted this conversation to go. V was unpredictable without his sword, and each time he had gone searching for it, horrible things happened to everyone around him.

Roman,V growled dangerously.

After the last time you woke from the dragon sleep, I went looking.

Vs eyes blazed with fury as he faced him. Youve known.

I told Con the next time you woke, that I was going to help you. We wouldve left sooner if nofor the whole Mikkel issue. I know youre angry, and Im sorry for that. But let me help.

I can noremember anything of that day. I had my sword, then I woke and I didna. Only because I refuse to go any longer without it will I accept your help.

Good. Nothat you couldve stopped me from going,Roman said with a grin. Ill let Lily know so she can get the helicopter ready.

V let out a loud snort. Nay. Were going ourselves.

Roman opened his mouth to argue the danger, but no words came out.

One side of Vs mouth lifted in a smile. I didna think youd mind. Ive already asked Arian for some help.

Roman looked up at the clear, blue sky but dark clouds were fast approaching Dreagan from off in the distance. Cons nogoing to be happy.

No human will see us,V stated. Arian will make sure of that.

After a brief period where no dragon was allowed to fly around the sixty thousand acres of Dreagan, Con had finally lifted the ban. The magic barrier around Dreagan kept most mortals away, and anytime someone crossed it, the Kings were immediately alerted.

Years of being private had been shattered in one night when the Dark Fae released a video showing the Dragon Kings in battle, shifting in and out of dragon form while battling the Dark. Now, everyone wanted to know if real dragons existed on Dreagan.

A part of Roman wanted the humans to know the truth. Though there was little doubt that history would repeat itself and there would be another war between humans and dragons. Except this time, the Kings wouldnt turn the other cheek. If there were another war, the outcome wouldnt be the Dragon Kings hiding in their mountains for centuries.

A whistle above them had Roman and V turning toward the manor to see Arian leaning out the window of his chamber with his mate, Grace, by his side.

Well?Arian asked.

V gave a nod. But Roman watched as Arians champagne-colored gaze shifted to him. After a brief hesitation, Roman also gave a nod.

Where are you two headed?Arian asked.

V swiveled his head to Roman and waited.

Roman looked at the sky, already itching to shift and spread his wings to fly. Romania.

His advanced hearing caught the sound of Graces gasp, but he paid no attention. Arian would fill her in on all the details.

We own homes in every major city around the world,Roman told V. Theres one in Bucharest, but we also have another in Timisoara, which is nearer the mountains.

Of course you do,V said with a shake of his head while wearing a smile. And I suppose there is a closet full of clothes for each of us.

Roman grinned. Con doesna do anything halfway.

He has always looked out for us, thinking of details few of us ever would.

The clouds were nearly upon them, rolling into each other and growing darker by the second. Excitement rushed through Roman. He wanted to fly, yes, but it was more than that. Almost as if he awaited something.

Or something awaited him.

With every second the clouds took to reach them, Romans skin grew tighter. He yearned to be in his true form, to inhale and feel the fire rumbling in his chest.

To soar into the sky until the ground below was nothing more than a speck.

And I thought I was the one with secrets.

Vs words caused Roman to look his way. But he didnt deny anything. What good would it do?

With a sad smile, V nodded and took off his black boots. Roman waited for him to remove the rest of his clothes, but V casually set the boots aside away from him.

Roman raised a brow. Just the boots?

I like them. Shara bought them for me,V explained.

Roman hid his smile. Shara was not only a Light Fae, but also mated to Kiril. Shed been one of the first mates to approach V, and she did it with the designer boots.

What about you?V asked.

Roman looked down at his clothes. He shrugged and quickly removed them. Unlike V, he tossed his boots toward the manor before wadding up his jeans and shirt and lobbing them near his shoes.

V rolled his eyes with an irritated shake of his head. You couldna fold them?

Why?Roman asked as a crack of thunder pierced the air.

Roman shot V a smile before he shifted and immediately launched himself into the air. The moment his wings spread and he caught a current, he drew in an easy breath. This was where he was meant to be, not stuck on the ground in a form not his own.

Shifting had made it easy to talk to the humans when they arrived, but he would always prefer being in dragon form. Everything felt right.

The air smelled sweeter. He could feel the electricity from the lightning crackling in the atmosphere. And the rain ah, the scent was divine. He loved how the drops hit his scales and rolled down his body toward his tail.

He glanced down as V came alongside him and spotted Con standing at the backside of Dreagan Mountain.

Well,V said via the mental link all dragons shared. Hes noyelling at us.

Roman studied Constantine for a long minute. Hes different now that Ulrik is back.

Ulrik is where he was always meant to be, V said. Everyone knew that. Even Con.

Roman flew higher into the clouds and shifted his direction southeast toward Romania. He glanced over and caught the sight of copper scales meandering through the clouds.

They might be on an important mission, but V was enjoying himself. It was such a change from the other instances when V had woken from sleep and left his mountain. Perhaps this time would end differently than the others, as well.

Maybe this time when V returned to Dreagan, he would have his sword with him.

Roman glided upon the air currents and, for just a moment, he allowed himself to believe that the mortals had never come to the realm to settle. That at any moment, his pale blue dragons would join him.

It was a dream he only allowed himself once every few days. And, frankly, it was getting harder and harder to remember what his old life had been like.

Perhaps you shouldve slept more,V said.

Roman glanced to his right to find his friend. Meaning?

I see the far-off look in your gaze, but more than that, I see the misery.

I feel like memories of our other life are fading. I can nohold onto something I can noremember.

Maybe its better if you doona,V said.

Romans head snapped to him. You doona think the dragons will ever return.

Nay.

Roman searched his mind and realized that he didnt either. We will be hiding for eternity.

Give the humans long enough, and theyll destroy themselves. Look what theyre doing to this planet. I give them another two hundred years.

Before they die out?

V chuckled. Before they leave. Theyre looking for another planet. Im ready to point them in the right direction to hasten their departure.

Noall will leave.

Vs lips peeled back to show his long teeth. Then we help them.

Roman had to admit, he liked the idea. If only the Dragon Kings hadnt sworn to protect the mortals. On a realm filled with magic, the humans didnt fit in.

The Kings had felt sorry for them and gave them a place to live. After a couple of generations, a select few mortals were born with magic. They werent nearly as powerful as the dragons or even the Fae, but they could still do magic.

There was a time when some humans revered the Druids, but those without magic, who wanted a taste of that kind of power, grew jealous and soured the others until the Druids finally gathered in a safe place.

Roman hadnt been to the Isle of Skye in ages, but the Druids survived there even now. Their numbers were dwindling, but they clung to the old ways and their magic.

Just as the Dragon Kings did.
