Cover Reveal : Dirty Past by Emma Hart – Burke Brothers Series – Book 2

DirtyPast

Release Day May 4

On the heels of Dirty Secret, here is a sizzling hot romance featuring another Burke brother and the girl he can’t resist, from the New York Times bestselling author of the Game series.

Walking out on my wedding wasn’t my best idea.

Neither was throwing my cell in the lake and taking a job as PA for Dirty B, America’s favorite rock band, complete with every teen girl’s dream man, the eldest of the Burke brothers.

Tate Burke is pure sex. Women actually throw their panties at him during shows. And Ella Dawson is the lucky little thing that gets to escort their fangirling butts out when he’s done with them.

Yay.

He’s a cocky son of a bitch, but there’s more to him than meets the eye. Every now and then Ella gets a rare glimpse of the Tate behind the “bad boy” act, and it attracts her in the most annoying way. The most annoying, heart-thumping, panty-wetting way.

When her abusive ex turns up at the hotel room Ella and Tate are sharing, raging mad, she knows she’ll need more than just a little protection. Tate sees red, and Ella can’t help but lean on him, despite his bad-boy ways.

And now? Now, he’s in a whole lot of trouble.

Three people. Three motives. Three reasons.

When the game leaves the field in the second book in the USA Today bestselling BY HIS GAME series and mixes with sex, lies, and betrayal, the future isn’t the only thing on the line…

Macey Kelly has sworn off men. Unless they’re going to zip in and out of her apartment—and her vagina—quicker than they can give her an orgasm, she’s not interested. Finding out her boyfriend of three years got her cousin pregnant was a total confidence knock. Luckily for Macey, confidence is

something she has in abundance, so all Mitch’s asshole move did was make her pretty cynical toward men.

The last thing Jack Carr needs at the start of the season is for a dark-haired, sexy as sin, gyspyesque beauty to be consuming his thoughts. Football is his life, which leaves no time for girls. Unless they’re the love ‘em and leave ‘em girls. Becoming one of the best running backs the league has ever seen by racking up the yards is his top priority… not bedding Macey Kelly, despite her affinity for blow jobs and total sexual abandon.

Avoiding each other is the perfect solution, but when your best friends are in a serious living together kind of relationship, that isn’t always an option. Sometimes, sex on tap is the easiest option. And the sweetest.

Until Mitch shows up with a bombshell that could shatter Macey’s perfectly carved out life. It’s been a year, but he isn’t giving her up, not now he has a chance at winning her back. And he knows her buttons. Every single one of them.

Unfortunately for him, Jack Carr isn’t a loser. The star running back has his eye on the Vince Lombardi—and on Macey. But seeing her hanging between them both isn’t something he’s down with, not when he discovers why she’s so against anything more-ish, as she puts it.Macey quickly realizes she’s the ball being passed between two desperate yet opposing teams, and that only one of them can score the touchdown. But will the winner be the guy she lived with and loved for three years, or will the winner be the guy who understands her and makes her body come alive?

In this game, someone will be sidelined, and calling the play isn’t always as easy as it seems.

EXCERPT

“You remember to write down the orange juice one?”

“No, actually. I forgot.”

He licks his fingers and comes over. I kick a little more frantically, because, well, explaining them is going to be awkward. Jack grabs my pen and the orange pad and scribbles on it.

Note to self: Get a second carton of OJ for Jack.

“Noted.” I pull the square off the pad and drop it on the floor with the others.

“Why is my name on the pink notes?”

Ah, fuck.

“And Mitch’s on the yellow?” He turns toward me. His face is dangerously close to mine, and there’s a glint in his eyes that… Well, I don’t know what it is, but it sure as fuck isn’t good.

“I was…drawing up a pros-and-cons list,” I mutter.

“Seems to be a helluva lot more yellow than pink, baby.”

“Well, in my defense, half of Mitch’s say ‘fucked my cousin,’ which adds to his total.” I smile weakly.

“All right, I think I’m gonna regret askin’ this.” Jack sits up straight. “Why are you making pros-and-cons lists?”

I open my mouth and close it again. Shit. I was kind of hoping to avoid this conversation.

“Promise you won’t get mad,” I say softly, looking down.

“M, talk to me.”

“I…” I swallow, sensing that that’s the closest to an agreement I’m going to get. “I saw Mitch earlier.”

I wait, but Jack says silent.

“I asked him why he was outside my apartment yesterday.”

“Doesn’t take a fuckin’ genius to work it out,” Jack grinds out.

“He wants me back.” I look at the TV. “He…doesn’t seem to understand that I’m not in love with him.”

“You sure about that, Macey?”

I frown, snapping my eyes to Jack, who’s now leaning against the table. “Of course I’m sure!”

“Yeah? ‘Cause you don’t seem to hesitate running to him when he comes knockin’ at your door.”

“What are you saying?” I stand up slowly, my stomach twisting at his words and the implications of them.

“According to you, he broke your heart so fucking badly that you hate him. Yet, when he knocks at your door or hangs out outside your apartment, you’re not exactly hesitant when it comes to runnin’ after him to see what the fuck he wants. Yet you can’t call me.” Jack turns slowly. “That’s what I’m fuckin’ saying.”

“According to me?” The words fall from me in disbelief. “According to me? You think I want him here, fucking with me again? You think I want to sit there and listen to him declare his seemingly endless love for me while begging me in the same breath to give him another goddamn chance?”

Jack pushes off from the table and walks to the door. His fingers curl around the handle and he looks at me, his green eyes on fire, so angry that they’re sending tremors through my body. “You answer him?”

“What?”

“He begged for another chance. Did. You. Fucking. Answer. Him?”

Excerpt

That kid that could be mine.

I get up and let the empty bottle drop to the floor. The woods are eerily quiet, as if it can sense my anger. As if it knows the bitterness that lingers in my veins, as if it knows the burn of not knowing anything.

Like the woods, I’m left in the dark. Completely.

Branches and twigs crunch under my feet as I increase my pace to a gentle jog. And again, to a slow run. Then to a sprint.

The need to know increases with every footstep, as evenly paced as the ticking of the clock. It doesn’t matter that I’ve probably drunk too much beer to be here or that we’ve only been back for a matter of days.

I can’t be in this shithole full of memories without knowing. I can’t move on until I know. I can’t forgive her for a single fucking thing until I know—and even then, maybe I won’t be able to.

Maybe she’s unforgivable.

Instead of knocking on the back door like I did yesterday, I round the side of the house to the front door. The front room light glows softly through the curtains, but the rest of the house is dark.

My chest heaves with the exertion of my run here and I grab the doorframe to balance myself. I’m definitely too fucking drunk for this conversation, but what the hell.

I bang on the door, once, twice, again and again and again. “Sofie! Open the fuckin’ door!”

“Shut up!” she hisses, yanking it open. “The hell’re you doing here?”

I smirk, leaning against the wall. “Shouldn’t I be askin’ you that, princess?”

“Are you drunk?” Her voice rises a little at the end, and her eyes widen.

Those eyes. Fuck, those baby blues that have always undone me.

“Drunk? No. If I was drunk I’d be sitting at home like a miserable bastard and not here facing the cause of my misery.”

“You’re being an asshole. I don’t have to listen to this.”

She pushes on the door, but I wedge my foot in front of it. I let go of the wall and grab the edge of the door.

“Actually, you do.”

She can’t overpower me, and she knows it, because she lets up and the door swings open. “Why are you here, Conner?”

“You have a kid.”

She smacks her lips together. “Yep.”

“When? When did you have her?”

Sofie takes a deep breath in and presses her hands to her stomach. They’re shaking, even as she links her fingers to hide it. I can see that fucking tremble.

She whispers something but I’m too pre-occupied by her hands to hear it.

“What?”

“August last year,” she repeats, still a whisper.

August. Last year. My stomach clenches as I meet her eyes. “When? When in fuckin’ August, Sofie?”

“August fifteenth.” Her voice hitches halfway through the ‘fifteenth.’

Almost seven months to the day she walked out on me and the rest of Shelton Bay.

Adrenaline hums through my body, and I stare at her. At the tears building in her eyes, the quiver of her lips, the bob of her throat as she swallows harshly.

It’s no different from the burn in my chest, the twisting of my stomach.

“Is she mine?”

She shudders and a tear drips from her eye.

“Sofie. Is. She. Mine?!”

Michel’s Review

Wow! What a great start to a new series. The Burke Brothers Series has a little bit of every type of sub genre romance readers desperately crave.  First and foremost, the series is about the four Burke Brothers and their family.  Not only are these brothers sizzling hot, they are sizzling hot rockstars in the chart topping band Dirty B.  They are the tattooed heart throbs every woman wants rocking their world.  This series also has a small town romance feel to it.  The Burke’s are from a small South Carolina coastal town that is still their home although they are big stars.  They come home on every tour break to spend time with family and friends. The first book, Dirty Secret is a second chance romance. This book not only has the second chance romance it also has two very distinct genres blending together.  Those genres would be New Adult and Erotic Romance.  The passionate love scenes will leave the readers fanning themselves.

Dirty Secret featured the youngest brother and lead singer, Connor Burke.  Sophie Callahan was Conner’s childhood sweetheart and once in a lifetime love.  She walked away from him without an explanation or single clue as to why.  They had the perfect relationship.  His band was on the brink of making it big.  Everything they had worked and sacrificed for was finally becoming a reality for them.  So why would Sophie walk away when he is finally becoming a true success?

Sophie Callahan found out she was pregnant just as Conner’s band was about to make it big.  She left Connor without a word.  She never told him about the baby.  She disappeared without a trace.  Two years later she is back in the small town she grew up in.  She is ready to face the music.  She is ready for Conner to know his little girl.  She knows her decisions are unforgivable.  She doesn’t expect Conner to forgive her or repair their relationship.  She knows she made mistakes and she owns the responsibility of her choices.  She just wants Conner to be a part of Mila’s life.  They need each other.

There are other reasons she left Conner.  She will have to face n the truth she has been hiding from herself and Conner.  Is it too late for them?  She seems to think so.  Conner has a different opinion.

They will have to deal with their past.  The will have to deal with the fame.  They will have to learn to be parents together.  They will have to reach deep within their hearts to find out what is the most important thing for their daughter and themselves.

The chemistry between Conner and Sophie is steamy.  They have a passion that will last until the end of time.

I loved all the characters in this book.  I felt like I knew them personally.  I can’t wait for the next book in the Burke Brothers Series.

From Emma Hart, the New York Times bestselling author of the

Two people. Two agendas. Two games.

As the daughter of Hollywood’s sweetheart, Leah Veronica

Getting the handsome, prickly blonde into his bed becomes

EXCERPT
Leah’s Great Aunt Ada has been staring at me all night. I’m
hovering somewhere between cute and creepy, because she has the most adorable
little grin she shoots my way whenever I catch her looking. Crow’s feet appear
at the corners of her eyes, and her cheeks flush just a little.
I think she might have a crush on me.
Again, hovering between cute and creepy.
“Aunt Ada. Will you please stop looking at him like he’s
dessert?” Leah sighs, taking Ada’s plate from in front of her.
“Stop hooking up with Bert? Whoever is Bert?” Ada replies,
looking genuinely confused.
I quirk my eyebrow, and Grace leans across the table.
“Hearing aid, Ada.”
The old woman blinks, then slips her hand into her pocket.
She pulls out a small, nude-colored device and fits it to her ear. “Now, Lele,
what was that you were saying about hooking up with Bert?”
Lele?
Leah catches my eye and gives me a death stare. “I didn’t
say anything about Bert. I asked you to stop looking at Corey like he’s
dessert.”
“He isn’t?”
I cough into my hand.
“Ada, it’s late. I think you should, perhaps, go to bed
now.” Grace winks at me and stands.
“But we haven’t danced.”
“People don’t dance at dinner now, Aunt Ada,” Leah tells
her. “They eat, they drink, they go home.”
“Well, how boring. You young’uns don’t know how to have a
good time.”
Grace swoops Ada out of the kitchen with her still muttering
about ‘kids today.’
“Oh, they do,” Leah murmurs, loading the dishwasher. “They
just don’t invite old people along.”
I grin. “Do you need any help?”
She shakes her head instead of answering me verbally. She
hasn’t said a fucking word to me since she rebuffed my offer of a date. Even
through dinner, she managed to contribute to the conversation without directing
a single sentence at me.
And it’s slowly starting to really, really piss me off.
I watch her scrape the plates into the trash then bend over
and put them in the dishwasher. Her dress rides up her legs, the hem hovering
at the very top of her thighs. If she bends over another half an inch, her underwear
will be fully exposed to me. So will her ass, and if she’s that kind of girl,
maybe her pussy, too.
My cock twitches at the thought. Fuck—I want to go over
there and see. I want to flick that stupid fucking dress up and see what kind
of underwear she wears, and if that doesn’t make me hard imagining it…
“Are you staring at my ass?” she asks, her words slicing
through the silence easily but sharply.
“On a scale of one to ten, how honestly do you want me to
answer that?”
“Very honestly.”
My eyes coast over her smooth skin. “About a fifty.”
She slams the dishwasher shut and turns. “Seriously? Is me
telling you to cut the crap an open invitation to ogle me?”
“No, but you wearing a dress that short and bendin’ over
is.”
Her lips thin. “And you wonder why I won’t go out with you.”
“Maybe I’m not bothered.”
“Yeah?” She rests her hands flat on the table opposite me
and leans over. “So why’ve you been looking at me all evening like I’m a math
puzzle you can’t figure out?”
“Because you confuse the fuck out of me.” I hold her gaze.
“One night you don’t want me. The next, you’re in my arms, fucking whimpering
into my mouth. Then not even twenty-four hours later, you’re tellin’ me where
to go. That’s why I keep looking at you.” My eyes drop to her tits. “That and you’re
hot as hell.”
She stares at me until I bring my eyes back up to hers.
“Wow. And that right there is why I just told you ‘no’ when you asked me out.”
She pushes off the table and stalks away from me.
“What the hell are you so mad for?” I get up and follow her
out to the back yard. “You’re the one sending me more messages than I can keep
up with!”
“Then this is the last one!” she yells, turning to face me.
“No. That’s the message, Corey, all right? I can’t go out with you. I cannot be
seen in public with you. I do not need the media craziness that will come with
being associated with you.”
“You’re Grace Veronica’s daughter. They photograph you
getting a coffee, for fuck’s sake!”
“And that’s why I don’t need more attention!” She runs her
fingers through her blonde hair. “I just don’t, okay?”
“Why? It makes no sense.”
“It does to me.” Her eyes soften and she wraps her arms
around her waist. “It’s dangerous for me, okay? I can’t explain why, so you
have to accept that as it is. You have to take my no for a no and just leave it
alone.”
“See, that’s where the problem is. I can’t,” I say, moving
closer to her. She doesn’t move. “I wanted you the moment I saw you in the bar.
I wanted to fuck you, Leah. I still do. I’d love nothin’ more than to have your
body beneath mine right fuckin’ now. But you turned me down with that sassy
mouth of yours, and now I’m intrigued by you.”
“Intrigued by me? There’s nothing to be intrigued by. I’m
pretty boring.”
“You’re wrong,” I mutter, dipping my face close to hers
without touching her. “I want to get under your skin, darlin’. I want to
consume you. Even if it’s only for a night. I want to finish what I set out to
start when I walked up to you in that bar.”
“You can’t.” She swallows.
“I can and I will,” I echo her words from earlier. “I won’t
leave you alone, Leah. I will pursue you until I get what I want. Until I get
you.”
“You won’t. Get me.”

I cup her jaw and brush my nose along it. “I want you, Leah.
And I always get what I want.”

 Excerpt

I never knew true addiction until her. I never truly understood what it is to crave, mind, body and soul, until nothing matters but fulfilling that craving. Until the only thing that matters is easing the hollow ache inside.

It’s there whenever we’re apart. Like a dark hole, it lingers, intensifying until my mind is full of blonde hair and blue-green eyes. Until my mind is full of easy curves, bare before me. Until my desires reflect her bending at the waist, her pert little arse in the air, colored red by my palm, the outline of my fingers visible against her pale skin.

Every day it’s something new, something different, something I never allowed myself to think of. It’s more than against the wall, more than her hands bound, more than a blindfold across her eyes. Now I can think freely, imagine all the ways and all the places I can have her.

Because she trusts me.

And she’s fucking mine.

My Liv. My bitch. My beautiful, flighty bitch.

Now she’s sitting in front of me with her eyes wide and her hands covering her mouth. She’s deathly still. And quiet. So fucking quiet every second that passes cuts deeper than anything she could ever say would.

But she hasn’t moved away from me, either. She’s still sitting in my arms, her legs hooked over mine… Staring at me like it’s the last thing she ever expected me to say.

I run my eyes across her face, taking advantage of her silence just to look at her. Her hair is messy, her blue-green eyes shining, her cheeks flushed. She looks freshly fucked, and she is, but more than that, she looks shocked.

“Liv?” I prompt. “Are you going to say anything?”
