EXCERPT:

He held the truck door for her, then circled around and climbed in. “Where to?”

“Somewhere quiet. I’ve been surrounded by people all day.”

“I agree. The house has been full of friends since I got Gram home. I managed to run most of them off early last night so she could sleep and again this afternoon to let Gram rest a few hours before the quilters swarmed in.”

He drove through the Hamburger Hut, picked up malts and burgers, then crossed the bridge to the old part of town. The boards over the water were uneven, rattling her from side to side like a cheap, twirling carnival ride.

Jillian raised her eyebrows but didn’t say a word. Where they were going didn’t matter. She was with the one she wanted to be with. She needed to stop worrying about lingering memories and just relax.

He parked by a three-story building and climbed out.

She waited, not sure what to do. The malts and burgers were still on the seat beside her. Surely they weren’t stopping here. This place was scary even in daylight. She didn’t plan on staying around to see how it looked in less than an hour.

When he opened her door, he raised his arms to catch her. “Come with me.” He encouraged as if offering far more than a lift down from the high seat.

Her legs were plenty long enough to take the step out, but she slid into his embrace. He lowered her to the ground. For moment they were so close they touched as they breathed. She thought he might lean in slightly and kiss her, but he simply brushed his cheek against her hair. “Trust me, Jillian, you’re going to like this restaurant.”

He grabbed his raincoat from behind the seat, handed her the drinks and picked up their meal.

Following him into the building, she was surprised to see how sound the old factory seemed to be. The ceiling was tall, over twenty feet. Decaying ropes still hung from pulleys, and worktables stood dusty, silently waiting for craftsmen to arrive. The windows were high, ribboning the building with natural light.

Staying close, she whispered as though she might disturb ghosts, “What did they used to make in here?”

“I’m not sure. I think parts of oil rigs were shipped in and assembled here. I don’t know much about it, but there’s an old Christmas tree over there in the corner.” He pointed to a six-foot structure that was formed from a mixture of valves, spools and fittings welded together.

“They’re used at oil or gas well sites. I see them in the oil fields around. I’m not really sure why they call them Christmas trees. A roughneck would have to be drunk to mistake this jumble of metal for a tree.”

She turned in a complete circle. “Nice restaurant.”

“Oh, we’re not there yet.” He pointed to a staircase along one wall. “We’ve got rooftop seating.”

Suddenly excited, she climbed ahead of him, her shoes tapping a rhythm in double time. At the top, she waited impatiently with a malt in each hand.

He juggled the bag of burgers as he shoved the heavy door open. They stepped onto the rooftop with no one else around. She could see for miles in every direction. The trees, the fields. Oil rigs, scattered homes and barns, schools and churches.

“It’s beautiful!” The sun’s low glow gave everything a golden light.

He set the bag down and spread his raincoat out like a tablecloth on an air vent cover. “It’s not yet, but it will be.” He pulled up two empty five-gallon buckets to use as stools.

She sat the malts down. “You’ve been to this restaurant before.”

“Guilty. But I’ve never brought anyone here. Only you.”

While he unwrapped his burger, she looked around, pointing out everything as if he was also seeing it for the first time. “Look how winding the creek is.”

“I had no idea there were so many trees.”

“Oh, look at those horses running.” She loved the way the evening clouds moved over the land, darkening the hues of the earth in shadow as they drifted.

“It’s winter now, not near as pretty as it’ll be come spring.” He set his hamburger beside hers and came to join her near the roof’s edge. “I lease that flat land out to a farmer who plants cotton every spring. That brown dirt will look like a green carpet in a few months.”

“I won’t be here in spring.” She let the wind catch her words as she turned away from him and the view. The black tar roof beneath her feet was all she saw now, but she stared hard, willing not one tear to fall.

This time. This place she would miss. When she left, Jillian knew memories would be packed in her heart. A year from now, a decade, a lifetime, she’d still remember the beauty of this view in winter and wonder how it looked in spring.

EXCERPT:

Jed

We stood there for a few moments, in the middle of a standoff. Not speaking or moving, until Serena couldnt stand it any longer.

What do you mean no?she asked, as if Id just said it. That is what youre doing here, right, selling your creations?

I nodded.

Yes, Im selling them, but I reserve the right to sell to who I want.

To whom,Serena said automatically, then when my eyes narrowed she muttered, Sorry, probably realizing the way to get what she did not include correcting my grammar. But, I dont understand. Why wont you let me buy it?

I sighed. Its not that I wanted to be a dick, but the river table was currently my favorite creation. Id spent a lot of time getting it exactly the way I wanted, and had an internal debate over keeping it for myself. When I decided to sell it, I knew the buyer had to be perfect.

And yes, Serena fuming with her perfect face and gorgeous hair that begged to be tugged between my fingers was perfect for most things but not for this.

“Have dinner with me tomorrow.” Lance waited for Brynn to either accept his invitation or try to find an excuse as to why that wouldn’t be the best of ideas. Honestly, he thought it was a fantastic suggestion. He gently rested his hand on hers when it was obvious she was going to stand and push her stool back. “I’ve missed you for far too long, blondie.”

Brynn pursed her lips to keep from smiling at the old nickname he’d given her back in high school. She’d gone through a phase of listening to the old rock band, and he’d caught her singing at the top of her lungs at one of the intersections in town. It was in that moment when she hadn’t thought anyone was watching that he’d caught a glimpse of the carefree woman she was on the inside. That one hapless unguarded moment had captured the heart of a teenage boy.

There were times throughout the last twelve years that he wasn’t sure he’d ever gotten his heart back, because he’d never been able to fully commit to any other woman. Then again, it might have had to do with the fact that he’d been deployed every so many months.

Military life was certainly hard on relationships, let alone committed ones.

“We went our separate ways, Lance,” Brynn said softly, though he could hear her regret. Still, she slowly pulled her hand from underneath his. “We can’t change what was done.”

“You’d be surprised at what could be changed if you want it bad enough.”

Lance stood and reached for his wallet, but the narrowing of her caramel colored eyes had him rethinking his gesture.

“This was two old friends having a drink,” Brynn said, tilting her head to one side as if she were sizing him up for some reason. “I’m not open for business.”

She only ever looked at him like that when she was about to propose something that would no doubt get them in trouble. He held up a finger and tossed her words back at her good-naturedly, though he respectively disagreed with her belief.

“We can’t change the past, as you said, so I’d rethink whatever it is you’re about to suggest.”

“Touché.”

Lance waited a few more seconds, hoping that she would throw caution to the wind and propose whatever had been on her mind.

“Stubborn,” Lance muttered with a shake of his head, her laugh ringing out over the bar as if it were Christmas. He hadn’t realized how much he’d missed home until this very moment. What surprised him most was that he thought of her as home. “I have missed you, blondie. I can’t help but wonder how much time we’re both going to waste pretending we’re just old friends.”

About the Keys to Love Series

Their homecoming wasn’t so welcoming. Four brothers and one sister each gave twelve years of their lives to serve their country and fulfill their family’s legacy of service. As each of them return to their home of record, they weren’t prepared for what awaited them—an unforgivable sin that has been hidden for twelve long years. Secrets and lies are concealed in the dark shadows of the very town they were raised in, and the Kendall family will have no choice but to rely on one another to unravel the sinister evil that they all hold the keys to unlock.

New Release + Release Blitz: Craft by Adriana Locke

Title: Craft
Series: The Gibson Boys #2
Author: Adriana Locke
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 14, 2018

Blurb

They’re not quite enemies. Not really friends.
More like frustrated balls of sexual tension and neither will give in.

Lance Gibson drives Mariah Malarkey absolutely
crazy. He uses her office like a phone booth, takes cupcakes from the corner of
her desk like she baked them just for him. She didn’t. Maybe she knew the
history teacher happened to love peanut butter icing, but that was purely a
coincidence. All sixteen times.
Mariah has a way of getting under Lance’s skin
too. She calls him out on his crap, spoils him even if inadvertently, and
seeing the librarian in skirts drives him wild. She won’t give in. It’s for the
best, really, considering there’s no way he could lie to a woman like that and
he’s not about to tell her the truth about himself. Not in a million years.
These two don’t hate each other. They don’t
really like each other. But for this to be a friends-to-lovers story, they have
to start somewhere, right?
Note: This can be read as a standalone novel.

New Release + Release Blitz: No Ordinary Love by Melody Grace

Title: No Ordinary Love
Series: Sweetbriar Cove #6
Author: Melody Grace
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 12, 2018
Blurb

For journalist Eliza Bennett, summers in Sweetbriar Cove
were her happiest childhood memories. Now that she’s been unceremoniously
fired, she hopes the small town will work its magic again and help get her life
back on track. She definitely isn’t looking for a distraction like the handsome
stranger she meets on her way into town… especially when she discovers he might
be the man behind her recent misfortunes.

Cal Prescott is in Sweetbriar Cove adjusting to (or escaping from) his new role
as head of the family company. He’s always prided himself on his cool logic,
but reckoning with the outspoken spitfire, Eliza, is making him forget his
responsibilities – and why falling in love would be such a bad idea.

The sparks between them are red-hot, and soon, their passion is heating up the
summer nights. But can Eliza and Cal find a way through their differences – or
will this opposites-attract romance burn out before it even begins?
