About INTOXICATED:

New York Times bestselling author Monica Murphy wraps up her sexy Billionaire Bachelors Club series with a wedding to remember. But this time, they’re not bachelors anymore, and the groom … is one of them.

It’s Gage and Marina’s wedding day, but wedded bliss seems a long way off: Ivy’s just gone into labor. Marina’s missing her matron of honor. And Bryn’s giving Matt the silent treatment.

It’s up to Archer, Gage, and Matt to make sure this day goes off without a hitch. But between brides and babies, there’s the not-so-little issue of the million-dollar bet to attend to. If only they can figure out who won … and who’s paying up. Is everyone a winner? Or will someone leave broke—and brokenhearted?

Kelley’s Review

I have really adored this series.  It is my go to series after reading a but gusting cry your eyes out romance because it is light and fun and brings me back to center.  It was so much fun seeing the gang again.  Monica really does a good job with the birth of Ivy and Archer’s baby.  It is not over the top and reminded me a lot of when I had my kids.

Marina kind of turns into bridezilla which is to be expected since her huge Italian family is putting so much pressure on her.  It is nice to see her and Gabe get to chill out on the beach during their honeymoon.  Monica sure knows how to write some sexy and spicy beach scenes so look out.

Bryn poor Bryn.  I love her to death but I can not believe that she told Matt no.  I thought for sure that story was going to end differently than it did.  I still want to know what happens next with them.  I love Matt and Bryn.

Monica does a great job giving us the next chapter in the lives of the Billionaire Bachelors that we have grown to love.  I will miss them.  I have been head over heels for this series since Archer’s story came out and I hated to see this series end.  I am looking forward to whatever Monica decides to throw at us next.

Ten Things the Billionaire Bachelors Wish You Knew About Them

Archer, Gage and Matt—the billionaire bachelors that are bachelors no longer. It was a lot of fun taking these men down a notch by having them meet women they fall head over heels for. They’re all a bunch of macho you-know-whats but they also have a few secrets. Considering these guys have known each other a long time, there are all sorts of things they know about each other. And now they want to share those things with you…

  1. Archer and Gage didn’t like Matt when they first met him. They thought he was an arrogant jerk. He felt the same way about them.
  1. Archer has been in love with Ivy for so long he truly believed it would never happen. And he didn’t want it to happen because he didn’t want to lose Gage as a friend. Luckily enough it all worked out.
  1. It was touch and go for Gage and Marina for a while—family tensions on her side were getting to them both.
  1. Gage has a serious sweet tooth and he secretly hates that Marina owns a bakery. He doesn’t want to get fat.
  1. Matt has turned into a complete sap who only has eyes for Bryn. His friends mock him but he knows deep down inside they’re just as gone over their women as he is over his.
  1. Who’s the richest billionaire of the three? They’ll never tell.
  1. (Answer to #6 – Archer)
  1. Ivy went to Archer early in her pregnancy and said if they were having a boy, she wanted to name him after her brother. Archer said hell no. They had one Gage in the family and that was enough.
  1. Matt is afraid of Bryn’s grandma. And Bryn’s grandma’s rooster.
  1. All three friends give each other a lot of grief but they are definitely the happiest they’ve ever been—and they thank their lucky stars every day for the women who entered their lives and changed them completely.

Series: Lights, Camera Companion Publisher: Samhain

Summary: Onto every diva’s backside, a little wood must fall. Lights, Camera, Book 2
Hollywood actress Heather Wainwright was looking forward to a long, relaxing break before starting her next shoot. Except her assistant volunteered her for L.A.’s annual 24 Hour Plays.Nervous about doing a good job for such a worthy charity, Heather falls back on “diva” mode, a defense mechanism that always carries her through. Until she encounters something that really gets on her nerves—a lowly carpenter whose Norse god eyes pierce right through her. Highly sought-after production designer Seth Rafferty has little patience for A-listers with superior attitudes, which is why his attraction to Heather is absurd. Yet, sensing vulnerability beneath her screen-queen act, he lets her assumptions play out. After the wrap party, Heather awakens with little memory of the night before—except that Seth gave her the best orgasm of her life, then disappeared. When he shows up on the set of her next movie, she winds up to give him a piece of her mind…and Seth shows her just how stinging hot “chemistry” can get. Warning: Contains an outwardly snobby actress with a good heart, a delicious carpenter with a power drill, some much-deserved spanking, and an appropriately consensual—if tipsy—orgasm, as well as sex at an inappropriate time of the month.

Tracey’s Review

What do you get when you put a snobby actress from the wrong side of the tracks and a super-hot alpha guy that’s good with his hands together? Perfection, if you’re reading ‘Star Struck’ by Laurelin Paige. Heather Wainwright is the Hollywood ‘IT’ girl of the moment, in much demand, and at the top of her game. She is the actress that all ingenues want to be like, and all the leading men want to date. But Heather’s life hasn’t always been the dream that it is. She comes from a less-than-spectacular background, and will do most anything to keep this hidden from her adoring public. Seth Rafferty has also worked hard to rise to the top of the heap in Hollywood. Seth, while not proud of his background, refuses to hide who he is and where he comes from, except when it comes to Heather. He wants to teach her a lesson, and have a good time while doing it. I am a huge fan of Laurelin Paige. Her ‘Fixed’ series has one of my all-time favorite book boyfriends, after all. In ‘Star Stuck,’ she has given us Seth Rafferty, and let me tell you, he ranks right up there at the top. Not only is he gorgeous and sexy, he’s smart and sweet, and can easily keep up with Heather, giving as good as he gets, and making her a better person along the way. And while, at first glance it would be easy to dislike Heather, you really can’t, because it becomes clear why she acts the way that she does. Even she doesn’t really like the person that she’s become, but isn’t secure enough in herself to make a change. This book was HOT from the get-go, and I could not put it down The interchange between Heather and Seth was by turns funny and sweet, and always sexy as all get-out. And Lexie, I just adore Lexie. Heather lucked out for sure when she landed such a smart, loyal, and sassy chick to be her PA. I’d love to see her in her own story (hint, hint, Laurelin!). Five hot and sexy stars!

Author: Melody Grace

Release Date: May 21, 2014

You can be anyone for a night…

Dex is looking for distraction, at any price. The innocent redhead is just what he needs to keep his demons at bay — but one taste of her sweetness isn’t enough. He needs to possess her, body and soul.

Two searching hearts. One night to discover the passion of a lifetime. Dex is determined to show Alicia the pleasure she’s been denied, but can she let go of her heartache and take a risk on the unknown? Find out in the sizzling new novella from USA Today bestselling author, Melody Grace!

What the hell am I doing?

The city lights flash past us in a neon blur, bright and electric as the adrenalin pumping through my veins. I can feel every rumble of the engine echo up through my body as I hold on tight to the solid muscle of the stranger between my thighs.

The man who wouldn’t let me walk away.

            This is crazy. I’m crazy.

When Dex finally pulls the bike to a stop, I’m surprised to feel a flash of disappointment.

I shake out my hair, wondering how much of a mess I look. “Motorcycles are dangerous,” I say, instead of admitting just how good that just felt.

I blush, looking away. Now we’re far from the party, and all the reasons I had to run, I’m reminded just how far out of my depth I am with a man like him. He’s probably used to groupies and daredevils — rock chick girls who wouldn’t think twice about leaving a party with a man they’ve never met before, not some ordinary girl whose head is still spinning just from a motorcycle ride across town.

I catch my breath, feeling a sudden panic. He brought me straight to his place? He thinks we’re going to…? “I didn’t mean–” I stutter. “When I said, we should get out of there–” I stop, my face burning up with embarrassment.

He beckons me to follow him inside.

“You’re not that kind of girl,” Dex finishes, smiling. “I know. But, I’m going to let you in on a little secret.” He drops to a whisper, leaning in close enough for me to feel his body, hot against mine.

            “You want to be.”

Tracey’s Review

Dex is not Alicia’s type. He’s hot, edgy, sexy, a rocker that just happened to show up in her town. And Alicia is definitely not Dex’s type. She’s straight-laced, buttoned-up, and innocent. But when the two of them end up in the same place, it’s fireworks galore. These two cannot keep their hands off of each other!

Alicia has come to the realization that the guy she wants so badly doesn’t feel the same. Her love is completely unrequited, and her heart is breaking. Running from the fame that had become like a drug to him, Dex finds himself crashing into Alicia, drawn to her like no one before.

‘Unrequited’ is a novella, the first book in the ‘Callahans’ series by Melody Grace. This story definitely grabbed and held my attention, because the chemistry between Dex and Alicia is OFF THE CHARTS. I mean, completely steamy, and then some. My only complaint is that it is a novella, after all, so the story is more like an appetizer, something to whet the appetite until the whole meal is delivered in the next book. And I will definitely be reading the next book, because I cannot wait to find out what happens with these two. Get ready for a hot and sexy four-star read in this one.

Last Second Chance by Caisey Quinn 5 Star Review

When Stella Jo Chandler gets an offer to work at the Second Chance Ranch celebrity rehab facility right after graduating from Texas A&M, she’s tempted to turn it down. She wants to help real people with real problems, not spoiled celebrities going on vacation for publicity. But growing up on her family’s ranch left her with a love of horses that draws her to the opportunity. How bad can babysitting a bunch of strung out celebrities be?  What she didn’t count on was being roped into a tangled mess with infamous rocker and three-time rehab drop out Van Ransom on her first day. And she sure didn’t expect to feel the overwhelming attraction that pulls her to the man who has more issues than she can count on both hands. Like the hotel rooms and tour buses he’s famous for trashing, the havoc he could wreak on Stella’s heart would be irreparable.

Van isn’t at Second Chance for publicity or because he’s suffering from “exhaustion”. He’s on the brink of destruction, and he needs the kind of help Stella isn’t sure she can give. But without her, he’ll lose everything. Because he’s on his last second chance.

EXCERPT

Van stood at the edge of her bed and stared down at her. He had to clench his hands at his side to keep himself steady.Fuck, she was beautiful. She was more than beautiful. She was a goddess. She was something no one had created a word for yet. Because no other such creature had existed.

“Lose the blanket, Stella Jo.” His gravelly voice filled the small room.

She nodded, licked her lips, and slid the white comforter down. His eyes narrowed when he saw that she’d left her bra and underwear on.

“I said naked, cowgirl. But you know that, don’t you?”

“I was…” She paused to take a deep breath. “I thought I had more time.”

Setting the rope and riding crop on the bedside table, Van crossed his arms. “You have all the time in the world. Go ahead. I’ll wait.”

Her emerald eyes widened, meeting his with an ‘are you serious’ stare. He nodded once at her unspoken question.

She stood on shaking legs, and he resisted the urge to let her off the hook. She was nervous. She should be. He was going to do things to her that would wreck her—things she wouldn’t be able to forget for as long as she lived.

He planned to make damn sure of it.

Tracey’s Review
bigstock_Five_stars_Mesh_13933472

Stella Jo Chandler has always done the right thing. Former champion horse rider, she graduated with honors from college and wants to help people. For Stella Jo, who has never felt good enough, like no one has ever wanted her, Second Chance Ranch is just the opportunity to give to people what she has always missed in her life. Van Ransom is in deep trouble. He’s the ultimate bad boy, the guy that pushes the envelope and then some. As the lead singer of Hostage For Ransom, Van is living the whole ‘sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll’ to the extreme, and has finally gone too far. With his life and future of his role as hot lead singer in jeopardy, he has no choice but to get cleaned up for good.

“So this is it then? No second chances? Epitaph is sending me to rehab and I have to fake my way into a whole new me or else I ruin it for the whole band? That’s some messed-up shit, Sid.

Now it was the manager’s hand that fisted, clenching the rail tightly as he stared at Van in disbelief.

“You have got to be screwing with me, kid. You’ve had more second chances than any other person on the planet. And as much as I hate to say this to you, if you don’t complete the program this time and get your shit together, Epitaph won’t be the only one washing their hands of you. This is last second chance, Van. Plain and simple.”

Good Lord, I love a hot rocker. One that’s got a story, that is tortured and just waiting for the person that will help put him back together (even though he never thinks that that’s what he wants or needs, mind you), even better. Van Ransom is all of this and more. He’s at Second Chance Ranch, a rehab facility that caters to the rich and famous, to get it together once and for all. Stella Jo, running from a cold and unloving home life, has come to Second Chance to be able to give back, to help people get past their problems and get on with their lives. From the moment that Van and Stella Jo literally run into each other, they are like magnets, unable to stay away from each other. Each sees in the other a reflection of themselves, and and the brokenness that needs fixing.

I absolutely loved this book. Caisey Quinn writes one heck of a story, and this in no exception. Van and Stella Jo are on fire, and I loved reading about the two of them. The plot, the characters, and, did I say, Van, makes this absolutely a 5-star read for me.

Excerpt

Chapter 2
Then

“I don’t think I can go,” I tell my mom, looking directly at her, wanting nothing more than for her to meet my gaze. She won’t—I already know that—because looking at me would mean facing the inevitable.
Lily’s gone for good.
Mom drums her French-manicured fingernails on the thatched placemat, the beat uneven and rushed. “The car will be here to pick us up in an hour.” Her hazel eyes, red-rimmed and swollen, focus on the kitchen window. From the looks of it, she’ll start crying again at any second.
Five more drums of her fingers. A sniffle. Then two last beats.
She turns her head slightly in my direction, still refusing to look at me, but I get a clear view of her face. My mother’s always been beautiful, and even with her skin splotchy from crying and her short, chestnut-colored hair uncombed, she’s still stunning in that tragic, ethereal sense. “The car comes in an hour,” she repeats before pushing away from the kitchen table and shuffling away. Even though it never left her mouth, I know the precise word that’s rolling through her mind as I hear her climb the steps and slam her bedroom door.
Selfish.
Maybe she’s right. But maybe, if she’d just looked at me, she would have seen that selfishness is rooted in an even deeper emotion: fear.
I don’t want the last time I see my sister to be … this.
That’s not a memory I think I can deal with and I’m scared to hell of it.
But in the end, my dad stalks into the kitchen and motions for me to follow him. He gives me a gentle nudge toward the staircase with the instructions to get dressed and do it fast. Skin flushed, I find myself in my room. By the time I’m finished there are clothes all over the place and my chest is heaving up and down. I glare at myself in the mirror, at my chocolate brown eyes that are clear because I’ve been too numb to cry.
Eyes like Lily’s.
“You selfish bitch,” I mutter and make myself look away. “You’ve ruined everything.”
On the way to the funeral home, none of us say a word to each other. The closer we get, the more and more I don’t mind the silence. Maybe quietness, solitude, is what I need to make it through today.
I sit on the front row with my parents, unable to cry or breathe or think straight as one-by-one, people who knew my sister—who adored her—tell us how sorry they are. There’s her overachieving snob of a best friend, Kendra. The boy who broke Lily’s heart a year ago, the same one who tried, unsuccessfully, for the last year to win her back. There are teachers and teammates and her closest friends. There’s my own boyfriend, James. When he walks past, he stops for just a moment to give my hand a reassuring squeeze, but I don’t say anything to him.
I don’t trust my words.
*** So I continue to watch in stunned silence. There are so many people here that I don’t know that I barely notice the tall man who stops to talk to my parents. He’s speaking in a hushed voice, but the second, “Owen Delane’s brother” tumbles from his lips, my gaze snaps up. I don’t see very much of him through the sudden haze of tears, but I listen to every word, each one catching my breath.
“…so sorry for what happened. For what this has done to your—”
Before he can finish, my mother—the woman who’s never physically disciplined us a day in our lives, the same woman who hasn’t been able to look me in the eye since the afternoon the officers showed up to our house with the news—is on her feet, her eyes meeting his as she swings her hand roughly across his face.
“What gives you the right to think you can come here?” she demands, shrugging off my dad who stands and tries to take her by the shoulders. “Will it help you sleep better at night? Do you think I care if you or your brother is sorry?” With every word, her volume rises, until she’s practically screaming.
Every emotion that Delane is feeling passes over his tan face, and I can’t help but to feel for him, the brother of the man who killed my sister. Forcing my eyes down long enough for me to catch my breath, I dig my fingers into the pew beneath me. What happened to Lily wasn’t this man’s fault. Surely Mom knows that. But the more I try to reason with myself, the more bitter I feel. ***
When I look back up, Delane’s back is straight and his expression is unreadable. His eyes sweep over me for a brief moment, just long enough for him to give me a solemn nod, and then he turns on his heel and walks away. I know every head inside the funeral home is turned on him, so I look at my mother instead.
My father has pulled her back down to a sitting position, and she buries her face in the crook of his neck, sobbing uncontrollably. Dad looks ahead—quiet and tearless—his gaze pointed on the white casket that’s not even ten feet away from us. And behind us, I know there’s more crying. Hushed whispers because my mom just decked a guy. I can’t hear any of it. There’s a blaring in my ears. A pressure sitting on my chest.
And suddenly, I’m on my feet, my gaze pointed down at my parents. “I’m so sorry,” I whisper, finally breaking my silence.
I don’t fully realize that I’ve left the building until the brisk fall air knocks me in the face. It, combined with the tears that have begun to fall, stings my cheeks. A second after my foot touches the bottom step I feel a hand clamp down on my shoulder. I half-expect it to be my father, but when I spin around, I come face to face with Kendra.
In spite of everything she must be going through herself, her eyebrows are pulled together over her dark brown eyes in concern over me. And I’ve been nothing but a bitch to this girl since she and my sister became friends in middle school. Kendra presses her lips together and then lets out a breath. “Evie … where are you going?”
The sad reality is, I don’t even know. “Oh God, Kendra. I’ve fucked everything up.” Immediately, she wraps her arm around me, drawing a gasp, and a sob, from the back of my throat. I drop my head against her shoulder. “I don’t even have the—”
“Shut up,” Kendra orders in a calm voice as she holds me even tighter. “Shut up and stop trying to do this on your own. You shouldn’t.” She releases me, takes a step back, and braces herself. “I don’t want to do it on my own either, okay?”
For the next ten minutes, she and I sit together on that bottom step. Neither of us says a word, and I’m almost certain neither of us manages more than a few breaths, but she doesn’t leave and I won’t either. Finally, at the sound of Lily’s favorite Regina Spektor song—the one I’d suggested we use for the slideshow—Kendra stands and jerks her head to the front door of the funeral home.
“Hey, Evie?” she whispers tearfully. “We can help each other, okay?”
Nodding, I stumble to my feet, brushing my palms over my skirt to smooth off any dirt. But as I go back inside and take my spot beside my parents, letting a song about not saying goodbye burn into my brain, I can’t help but wonder what Owen Delane’s brother would have said if he’d finished speaking.

Kelley’s Review

bigstock_Five_stars_Mesh_13933472

Forever Ride will take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions that you will not want to end.   Chelsea Camaron writes amazing biker stories because it is what she grew up around.  Chelsea put a piece of something real from her own life experience into this series and it shows.  I was up until 2:00 am and had to go to work the next day reading this story.  It had me hooked and I could not put it down.  5 hours of sleep later I made it into work happily knowing that Tank and Sass were going to be okay.

I am one of the lucky few that has become part of CC’s Writing Shenanigans.  I am honored to be part of this group and to be able to cheer Chelsea on as she writes these amazing stories.  Chelsea is first a wife and mother, and then a writer.  She has worked very hard to put together two amazing series.  I found her while she was writing her Love and Repair series and was so impressed about how on target she was with her characters and what life is like living with mechanics.  Then she hooked me again with One Ride.  Her description of what life is like as part of the Hellions Motorcycle Club is spot on.  She, like me, grew up around bikers.  My dad was a Matador and the club will always be part of his past and he looks upon those days with fond memories.  The Hellions remind me so much of his old club when it came to family events.  If you have not picked up this series I can’t tell you enough that you need to.  One Ride is only $.99 cents right now so you have nothing to lose. There is no other biker series that comes close to this one because what Chelsea writes is real.

On to Tank and Sass.  Chelsea about killed me at the end of One Ride.  I had to know what was going to happen with Tank and Sass.  She kept hinting that she was going to kill Tank and I can’t tell you how many times I begged her not to.  Then I started reading Forever Ride and I wanted to kill Tank because he just would not wake up.  I was on the edge of my seat wondering if Tank was going to wake up in time to stop Sass from doing something stupid.

Sass really taught me a lot of things in this book.  One of the most important lessons learned once again is to always be yourself.  Do not conform to what others want or expect you to be.  There are people who love you for who you are.  Life is to short to lose yourself trying to please others.  Sass had changed so much to fit into Nicks world it was scary.  She was not even a shell of who she used to be and had convinced herself that she was happy with her life that way.

I felt like jumping up and down and cheering when Tank finally did wake up.  The scary part of all of it was it felt like he might be too late.  Sass is stubborn and when she wants something she goes all in and she really wanted a life with Nick.  Still, she could never deny the chemistry she an Tank shared.

Forever Ride will take you on several twists and turns that will keep you turning the pages.  I cannot wait to see what Chelsea has in store for us next.  I am in love with this series.

~Sass~

“Button, you don’t have to stay here with him. You know that, right?”

“So you keep sayin’, but the way I see it, you can’t be you here. The fancy car, big house, stiff clothes, and boring hair… that shit ain’t you. Button, you gotta live life.”

“What I see is family. What I see is you’re afraid. You once called me out about being afraid of commitment. Well, Button, you’re full of fear, too. Fear of the unknown. There was a time when you wanted to take chances, to hell with the consequences. What happened?”

“This is the life you were born into. It’s in your blood. Holding on to me just now, you relaxed into the ride like it was second nature. You know you’re meant for this, and you’re meant for me. Life’s too short, Button.”

“Roundman once told me to play the cards life deals us. Well, folding is not an option. You’re in my cards. Life placed you in my hand and I’m building my winning play around you. Sort your shit, Button, because I’m not letting go.”

“I didn’t come here to upset you or force my hand today. I’m gonna go, but I’m not giving up on you.”

“Until next ride, Button,” he responds with a wink as he cranks the bike and then proceeds to pull away, leaving my heart and my life a mess.

Chelsea always wanted to be a writer, but like most of us, let fear of the unknown grab a hold of her dream; she realized that if she was going to tell her daughter to go for her dreams, that it was time to follow her own advice.

When she is not spending her days writing you can find her playing with her kids, attending car shows, going on motorcycle rides on the back of her husband’s Harley, snuggling down with her new favorite book or watching any movie that Vin Diesel might happen to be in.

She hates being serious and is still a big kid at heart. She is a small town country girl enjoying life and, Chelsea hopes that her readers remember not to take life too seriously and to embrace your inner five year old, because five year olds know how to enjoy the simple things in life and how to always have fun.

Tracey’s Review

6 Stars

Hannah Catalano’s life is not what she’d hoped. Her job and her relationship are, to put it nicely, lacking, and she’s ready to pick up and move home. Matt Sky is, well, quirky. The reclusive author of best-selling books, he’d rather hang out with his pet rabbit than people. Which he does. A lot.

At first glance, you couldn’t find two people with less in common than Hannah and Matt. But when they become partners in an online writing venture, they find that they are increasingly drawn to each other, spending more and more time getting to know each other as they write their story. As fate would have it, when Hannah moves back to her hometown, they discover that they are virtually neighbors. And so begins a very interesting relationship…

‘Night Owl’ is one of those books that just grabbed me and would not let go. I honestly did not know what to expect when I picked it up, but, once I did, I could not put it down. Hannah and Matt are such unique and well-written characters. Watching the evolution of their relationship was almost painful at times, because they are just so awkward in the way that they deal with each other. Hannah is by no means the typical ingenue, but Matt’s innate arrogance (because, let’s face it, he’s darned brilliant) makes her seem it. I found myself alternately disliking him intensely and wanting to grab him and kiss him. Add to the mix the freaking fantastic cliffhanger at the end, and this made for one of the most unusual and awesome books that I’ve read this year. Five plus stars, for sure, and, please, M.Pierce, whoever you are, hurry up with Book 2!

Excerpt

Panic set in as I listened to the ring.
I’m about to talk to Matt.
I’m about to hear his voice.
I don’t even know this guy.
What the hell am I doing?
He could be a psycho stalker.
We shouldn’t cross this line.
I can hang up.
I can hang up now.
Yeah, I’m going to h—

“Hannah?”
I swallowed and slid down the bathroom wall.
“Hannah, is that you?”

Matt’s cool, clear voice swirled in my ear. It was distantly accented—New Jersey, maybe New York—and a little husky.
He sounded sleepy.
He sounded sexy as hell.
I had the overwhelming urge to ask him to keep saying my name. Hannah, Hannah, Hannah. Help me come. Warmth bloomed between my legs.

“Okay then.” He laughed softly. I felt my reason melting at the sound. “We’ll play the one-sided conversation game. I’m Matt, it’s nice to—” Again, he broke into quiet laughter. His voice was rich with amusement, but not warm. He sounded contemptuous. He sounded ready to laugh at anything, simply for the pleasure of laughing with his silky voice.

I couldn’t help but picture the devilish eyes that must have accompanied that voice.
Green eyes, I decided. Dark green, secretive and deep like a forest.

“I was going to say it’s nice to meet you,” he went on, “but I guess we’ve technically met online. Now we’re meeting on the phone. Maybe…” He trailed off. I heard some shuffling. “God, if this is you trolling me Nate, I swear I’m going to break your fucking—”

“Hey! Sorry, I—” I scooted over to the bathroom door, opened and closed it, then sat back against the wall. Brilliant. Sorry, I was soaking my underwear while I listened creepily to your voice. “—sorry, yeah. I had to go in the bathroom. My sister is asleep.”

Matt was silent for a moment.

“Is that why you’re whispering?” he said.

“Yeah. She’s really tired. We’re at a motel, we just stopped. Pretty sure the wall between this bathroom and her bed is a piece of plywood, so.”

“Well… damn. I wanted to hear your voice. I mean, your regular volume voice.” He chuckled. “Do you think you could risk a few words? I’ll deal with your sister if she wakes up.”

I smirked, imagining a conversation between my hotheaded sis and this glib personality.

“I think that would be a bad idea. But, um. Sure. What  should I say?”

“With your normal voice? How about, the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.”

“Okay.” I cleared my throat. I was suddenly painfully self-conscious about my voice. “Um. Okay. The… the quick brown fox—”
Laughter exploded on the line. It was loud and sharp, nearly cruel.

“Oh… my god Hannah.” I heard a clatter, then some scuffling. “Oh fuck. You were really saying it. The quick… brown fox… oh god.” Matt dissolved into laughter again.

I glared at my knees.

“What’s so fucking funny?” I whispered.

“Hannah. Hannah, I’m sorry.”

I heard him take a few calming breaths.

“Okay,” he said. “I’m sorry. Ignore me, seriously. I have a weird sense of humor. That… that struck me funny. You have a lovely voice. Go figure.”

Go figure? What did he mean by that?

“Look, is there a reason you wanted me to call, or were you just looking for some late night entertainment?”

“Pretty sure this classifies as early morning entertainment, Hannah.”

“Okay. Well whatever. Look, I’m not sure why I—”

“I can’t stop thinking about you.”

His words stopped me cold.
His words, and something in his voice. Honesty.

“What we did,” he continued. “Or what you did to me…”

My throat went dry. What I did to him. It should have grossed me out, the thought of a stranger beating off to a few details about my body, but it didn’t. It intrigued me. The heat between my legs pulsed.

“You know what I’m talking about,” he insisted. An edge came into his voice at the slightest provocation.

“Y-yeah,” I managed. “Yeah.”

“You enjoyed it.”

“Yeah.”

“You said you wished I were pounding into you.”

“Yeah…”

I couldn’t believe this smooth-talking stranger was dictating to me how I felt.
I couldn’t believe I was blindly agreeing.
And I couldn’t believe my considerable vocabulary had suddenly been reduced to “yeah.”

“Hannah, you made me come so hard. And I did it again, thinking about you. Let me return the favor.”

His words hung in the silence between us.
Return the favor. Help me come.

“Yes,” I whispered.

GUEST POST for Smut Book Junkie Book Reviews

Prompt: What inspired you to write this series?

A girl.

A girl inspired me to write Night Owl, and she inspired me to write Last Light and After Dark.

It’s rare that I wring so much inspiration out of one person. You can imagine that she is very special to me. Because she has a life of her own, I can’t disclose too much about her. That would be a breach of her privacy. I can, however, say that events surrounding her presence in my life prompted me to put down the words that became Night Owl.

We wrote together. She accidentally e-mailed me from an account containing her picture. We lived in different states and she moved to my state. Does this sound familiar?

In a broader sense, you could say that my life prompted me to write the Night Owl Trilogy.

Many of the characters in Night Owl have real life muses. Pam is based on a woman I used to know, Nate Sky is based on my oldest brother, Laurence is based on Laurence, and so forth. Likewise, Colorado features in the whole trilogy, and I live in Colorado. I go into the mountains often.

A favorite Southern author of mine, Thomas Wolfe, wrote these lines in a letter to his editor, Maxwell Perkins: “I want, much more than I have ever in this first draught, to loot my life clean, if possible of every memory which a buried life and the thousand faces of forgotten time could awaken…”

Wolfe didn’t try to disguise the source of his inspiration: his life and memories. I write in the same spirit, and I’ll “loot my life” openly for my prose. I’m proud to have felt so deeply in this lifetime, and to have known such fascinating people, that I can use those feelings and characters in my art.

I recently told my agent that I “loot my life at an accelerated rate,” because many of my experiences as a newly published author are finding their way into Last Light. You’ll see what I mean in October. I’ve also met some wonderful people via Night Owl, and even they have inspired my writing.

So, while a specific event might inspire a given project, my general sources of inspiration are always the same: My memories, my life, and the lives that touch mine.

 Excerpt

It was a picture of a woman in white strapless wedding dress, very fluffy and extravagant from the waist down. Her hands were clasped demurely at her front, her face caught in a nervous smile.

She was extremely beautiful but that was to be expected. The country’s most flagrant excuse for a drug kingpin would never marry anyone less than stunning and this woman, Luisa, fit the bill. But despite her body, with her round, perky tits and elegant neck, her long dark hair and classic face, there was another layer to her that immediately got me hard. It was this look in her eyes. They were so pure and soft, giving her radiance that seemed to leap off the page.

I wanted nothing more than to have her on her knees, have her fix those round, angelic eyes on me and watch as I pin her down and come right into them. I would take her purity and make her see the world for what it really was – a hot, sticky mess at the end of my dick.

“I bet she’d be a tight little fuck,” Este leered over my shoulder.

I shot him a disgusted look. “She’s not a whore, Este,” I chided him.

“Not to you,” he said, as I looked at the next picture of her, now with Salvador at her side.

“I mean it,” I said, my eyes drawn to her again and again. “No one is touching her. Not you, not Franco.”

“I give you my promise,” Este said. “But Franco can barely control himself around the whores.”

“No one is touching her,” I repeated. “She will be our hostage. She is collateral. No one is laying a hand on her.”

“Except for you, I assume.”

She almost seemed too good to even touch. I couldn’t wait to break her. “She is very valuable,” I admitted.

I flipped through a couple of more photographs and grew harder at each one. I wished Este would just fucking leave so I could deal with it. I almost wished Laura was still alive so I could flip her over and come all over her back. I never fucked the women around here, but that didn’t mean I didn’t use them when I needed to.

“You know,” Este said, his lazy voice starting to grate me. “If Martin had been there close enough to spy on them, close enough to photograph, why didn’t you just get him to put a bullet in Salvador’s head? Especially if Martin was going to die anyway.”

I eyed him warily, disappointed that he could be so rash. “Because life is a game and we’re all just trading cards. We play the right hand to get ahead.” I studied the smiling, ignorant face of Sal as he stared at his bride. “Death stops the game. It’s too final, too inflexible. Death is viciously stubborn.”

When Este didn’t say anything I looked up to see a dull gleam in his eyes. I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose, annoyed at his ineptitude. “What good would killing Salvador do? Right? David Guirez or whoever, anyone, someone, they would step in and take over faster than you can shit after your coffee and nothing will have changed. Look at Travis Raines. The moment he died, I was able to slither on through to the top, to right here, right now.”

“Only because you killed Travis,” he noted. “More or less.”

“We killed Travis,” I corrected him. “Anyway, the point is that the dead make lousy deals. If we want the shipping lane, we have to force him to give it to us. Killing him does nothing. Taking his new bride, now that will do something.”

“You sound so sure,” Este said walking around the desk.

“I have no reason not to be sure,” I said. “They are newlyweds. He needs her, he wants her. We will get her soon, before he gets bored of her cherry ass. Sal has pride. We all do. It is our weakness. I know that enough about myself to know it about others.”

He smoothed his hand over the stubble on his chin and gave me a smooth nod. “All right.”

I stared at a photo of them at the altar, a lavish outdoor ceremony. He was gazing at her with that pride I was talking about. And she was staring at him with a look that was all too familiar to me.

“She doesn’t love him, though,” I commented, almost to myself.

“How can you tell?” he said, taking a step closer and peering at the photos again.

I swallowed uneasily and then shrugged it off. “I just can. She doesn’t.”

“So is she marrying him for money then?”

I took the papers and sorted them until they were neat and evenly stacked before slipping them back into the envelope. “Probably. Does it matter?”

“No. So when do we act?”

“Soon,” I said, putting the envelope in the first drawer. I knew I’d be taking it out again after he left.

Michel’s Review

6 Stars

It is no secret that The Artist Trilogy by Karina Halle is one of my all time favorite series. I absolutely loved all the characters. I admit that I was definitely team Camden. But on the other hand I was darkly fascinated with Javier Bernal. He was one of those characters that you hated to love and you loved to hate. He was ruthless, a bit psychotic, cruel, dark, and oozing with sex appeal. His character was unforgettable.

After his demise in the final book of the Artist Trilogy, readers were left wondering how the hell he was going to get out the situation he was in. Ahhh….Javier is a very crafty and calculating man. He did not become the leader of one of the largest drug cartels by accident. It was sheer ruthlessness, precise calculation, and diabolical patience that made him the king of one of the most barbaric drug cartels.

Dirty Angels by Karina Halle is Javier Bernal’s ominous kingdom and his quest for his queen. It is not a fairy tale that is roses and rainbows. It is your worst nightmare. It is a love story based on despicable deeds and monstrous behaviors. But it is the only kind of love story Javier can have. His world is violent, diabolical, and gruesome. There are no second chances. Life is expendable. Even for those you love.

What starts as a power play ends up being a blood bath. The bargaining chip is the very beautiful wife of the leader of a rival drug cartel. Her value will change all the rules. Her innocence will bring Javier to his knees. Her sinister acceptance will escalate Javier’s passion. Her dark beauty will mark his soul.

Javier is on a very dark road. His actions will be henious. His reactions will be shocking. His code of honor will be admired as well as abhorred.

Luisa will win the reader’s hearts. Her bravery and fate will have the reader reeling. Her evolution into the darkness will prove that she is a Queen to be reckoned with.

Dirty Angels is a hard edged, gritty, gruesome, and sensual book. Karina Halle did not pull any punches with this book. Her portrayal of the underworld of the Mexican drug cartels is brutally honest. This is a novel with high octane, violent suspense that will keep the readers glued to the pages.  Readers will love to love Javier, they will hate to love Javier, and they will love to hate Javier. They will embrace Luisa and commend her for evolving into the Dark Queen.

Karina Halle has wrote another superb story! Dirty Angels will definitely go on my 2014 Favorite Reads List!

Kelley’s Review
bigstock_Five_stars_Mesh_13933472

Kim Karr masterfully writes another truly beautiful and heart-wrenching love story that reminds us that when you love something you have to set it free and if it does not come back to you it was never yours to begin with but if it does return to you it will be yours forever.

The hardest thing that Xander Wilde ever did was walk away from Ivy.  Due to an unforeseen tragedy he felt that he had no choice but to let her go.  Ivy had an amazing voice and was extremely talented and Xander wanted her to go after her dream.  He would not share all of the burden he was having to carry because he loved her more than life itself.  So when she thought she saw him cheating on her, he let her believe it.

Fast forward 12 years.  Xander and Ivy cross paths at the hotel Xander and the Wilde Ones are staying at.  One look at each other has their hearts racing and they are both made aware of an ache that no one has been able to fill since they parted from each other. Xander and Ivy have chemistry that cannot be denied.  Even though it has been 12 years it feels just like they were together just yesterday.

You can only imagine what happens when Xander’s lead singer gets sick and Ivy steps up to take the role.  She is still angry at him and wants nothing to do with him but when they are so close together it is almost impossible to deny the gravitational pull that brings their bodies crashing into each other.

Kim takes you on a rollercoaster ride once again.  Just when everything looks like it is going to work out the rug is ripped out from under you.  She does this in a way that you know it is coming but you have no idea how it is going to happen.  Then she reveals deep dark secrets that will shock you to the core.  Bravo Kim!  I absolutely adored this story and the Connected Series just keeps getting better and better.   I can’t wait for Blurred and Frayed!

Being an English major in college, she wanted to teach at the college level but that was not to be. She went on to receive an MBA and became a project manager until quitting to raise her family. Kim currently works part-time with her husband and recently decided to embrace one of her biggest passions–writing.

Kim wears a lot of hats! Writer, book-lover, wife, soccer-mom, taxi driver, and the all around go-to person of her family. However, she always finds time to read. One of her favorite family outings was taking her kids when they were little to the bookstore or the library. Today, Kim’s oldest child is seventeen and no longer goes with her on these, now rare and infrequent, outings. She finds that she doesn’t need to go on them anymore because she has the greatest device ever invented–a Kindle.

Kim likes to believe in soul mates, kindred spirits, true friends, and Happily-Ever-Afters. She loves to drink champagne, listen to music, and hopes to always stay young at heart.
