Tracey’s Review

When Cate Forbes meets Drew McKnight, it doesn’t take long for the fairy tale to begin. Attraction quickly turns to love, to a perfect life shared between lovers. Life is beautiful. But when the unthinkable happens, with loss so great that Cate isn’t sure how to go on, the face of her life becomes more cruel than she can bear. Second chances, though, have a way of showing up when least expected.

When I received the synopsis for this book I was not sure that I could read it, because it looked like I would be ugly crying for sure, and, while I like some angst in my books, I really am all about the happily ever after. After hearing that it was an absolute must-read, and would not disappoint, in I went, and am I ever happy that I did. A.M. Hargrove and Terri E. Laine have written a book that is, by turn, joyous, devastating, and life-affirming, and I enjoyed it very much.

Written from Cate’s point of view, CRUEL AND BEAUTIFUL alternates between past and present, from the early days of her burgeoning and passionate relationship with Drew to her current life. Filled with characters that are intelligent, realistic, passionate, and humorous, this is a difficult but very fulfilling book. I was hooked immediately and entirely, and couldn’t stop reading until I got to the end, because I just HAD to see how everything tied together.

There are twists that I cannot give away for fear of ruining the reading experience for anyone, but I will absolutely say that this book should be on your list of books to read this year. 4.5 heartbreaking, uplifting, second-chance stars for CRUEL AND BEAUTIFUL; do yourself a favor and don’t miss this one.

ABOUT A. M. HARGROVE

AMHargrove-AuthorPhotoOne day, on her way home from work as a sales manager A. M. Hargrove realized her life was on fast forward and if she didn’t do something soon, it would be too late to write that work of fiction she had been dreaming of her whole life. So she rolled down the passenger window of her fabulous (not) company car and tossed out her leather briefcase. Luckily, the pedestrian in the direct line of fire was a dodge ball pro and had ¸ber quick reflexes enabling him to avoid getting bashed in the head. Feeling a tad guilty about the near miss, A. M. made a speedy turn down a deserted side street before tossing her crummy, outdated piece-of-you-know-what laptop out the window. She breathed a liberating sigh of relief, picked up her cell phone, called her boss, and quit her job. Grinning, she made another call to her hubs and told him of her new adventure (after making sure his heart was beating properly again).

So began A. M. Hargrove’s career as a Naughty and Nice Romance Author.

Her books include Adult, New Adult and Young Adult Romances, including, The Guardians of Vesturon Series (Survival, Resurrection, Determinant, reEmergent, and the novella Beginnings); Dark Waltz and Death Waltz (The Praestani Novels); The Edge Series (Edge of Disaster, Shattered Edge, and Kissing Fire); The Tragic Series (Tragically Flawed and Tragic Desires); Exquisite Betrayal; Dirty Nights: The Novel; and The Hart Brothers Novels (Freeing Her, Freeing Him, and Kestrel).

ABOUT TERRI E. LAINE

TerriELaine-AuthorPhotoWife and mother of three, I’ve always been an avid reader. In my early years, my best friend and I would tell each other stories over the phone when we were bored. We called them our “soap operas” and generally revolved around whatever boy we liked at the time.

Over five years ago, I got this crazy idea to write a novel and try to publish it. And the rest is history. This journey has been a blessing, and a dream realized. I look forward to many more memories to come.

Rolling In The Deep

By Rebecca Rogers Maher

Synopsis

In this raw, moving novel for readers of Jill Shalvis, Molly O’Keefe, and Karina Halle, two kindred spirits share a winning lottery ticket—and discover what it really means to get lucky.
Holly Ward is stretched to the breaking point, raising her young son alone and working long hours for minimum wage at a local superstore. Sure, she’s noticed the new guy with the easy grin and warm brown eyes, but she’s learned the hard way that relationships aren’t worth the pain. Still, when he invites her to split a lottery ticket, she figures a little innocent fun couldn’t hurt. The last thing she expects is to score big, which is exactly what happens . . . in more ways than one.
From the moment he meets Holly, Ray Lopez is drawn to her quiet dignity and openhearted beauty. And when they hit the jackpot together, he’s thrilled that the single mom can give her kid a better life. The only problem is the chaos surrounding them: lawyers and reporters swarming, friends and family angling to get their cut. In all the chaos, Ray discovers an oasis of calm and passion in Holly. But with the stakes higher than ever, winning her trust could cost him everything.

⭐ ⭐ Provided by Netgalley in Exchange for an Honest Review ⭐ ⭐

Judging a Book by it’s Cover:
Chastely kissing couple, sun flare and water in background. Synopsis sounded somewhat reminiscent of 1994’s “It Could Happen To You”, which was a fun movie.
Looking Deeper:
First person POV. Longer Novella > 150 – 200 pages. Divorced, single mom barely living week to week. New guy in town trying to follow his mom’s last directives before dying only a few months prior. They each put in a dollar for a Powerball ticket where the jackpot is over 200 million – and their ticket is the sole winner. But things are not all “… and they live Happily Ever After” once they win. There are many undesirable issues that come with such a sudden windfall and these two young adults must learn to navigate the minefield that their lives have suddenly become.
Ray is truly a solid character. Kind, considerate, mature. I really enjoyed his character. Holly, on the other hand, needed a backbone. I really hate men like Brett and the fact that she allowed things to progress like they did after divorcing and put up with being treated like that by her ex? That was disappointing and annoying enough, but then to allow it in front of her son? That enforces Drew’s dad’s negative behavior as acceptable. That is NOT okay in my mind, for any reason. The other secondary characters represented the best and the worst of mankind.
The chemistry between Ray and Holly was a natural one. Under extreme circumstances, it’s often wondered if it’s “just the adrenaline”, like a survivor’s rush of having to validate they are still alive. Dialogue was good, interaction was good… most of my issues still revolve around Holly and her insecurities and indecisive attitudes. Other than Brett’s depravity and Chad Winters being a douchebag of amoral standards, the plot lacked the truer depth of the darker aspects that money can and does draw out in others. Several missed opportunities, grazed over but never fully explored. The flow of the plot is smooth and fluid. The conflicts in the end are resolved in somewhat rather vague manners. Predictability is low. The conclusion is abrupt, again creating some missed opportunities. The epilogue provides mediocre closure, but it’s just not quite satisfying nor as solid as I’d have liked it to be. Overall, it’s not a bad read. It’s a fast-paced, rags-to-riches story.

Robin’s Review

I’ve found a new favorite novel from author Colleen Hoover! This one is special, friends, and although I’ve seen a couple differing opinions, it’s just a beautiful love story. In my opinion, November 9 has it all. It’s warm and fuzzy. It’s full of emotion-driven angst, twists and turns we’ve come to expect from Colleen Hoover, and characters who dare you to fall in love with them. November 9 is one of the most satisfying novels that I have read in a very long time, and I have HUGE hangover after reading it!

On the day she’s supposed to move from Los Angeles to New York, Fallon O’Neil meets Benton James Kessler. It’s rotten luck that Fallon the transient should meet Ben the writer on that day – not only are they attracted to each other, but the two of them have an immediate connection. Fallon has a fiery personality, and although she lacks self-confidence, she is full of life. Ben is an aspiring novelist. He’s handsome, charming and thoughtful – characteristics that I love to see in a Colleen Hoover male lead character.

After spending the most amazing day together, Fallon and Ben know they have to part ways, but not before they decide to make future plans. At the age of eighteen, Fallon knows she doesn’t want a boyfriend until she’s at least 23, so the two of them decide on a compromise: they plan to meet on the same date, November 9, at the same time and place, each year until they are both 23. No phone numbers are to be exchanged, and no contact is allowed in-between. In the meantime, Ben now has the creative inspiration he needs to begin writing his novel.

If it’s a story written by Colleen Hoover, there’s a good chance I’ll fall in love with the male lead character, and that’s exactly what happened. I’m tickled pink about my love for Ben! I’m pretty sure it surpasses my love for Ridge, the male lead character of Maybe Someday. Hoover immediately grabbed my attention with the compelling interaction between Fallon and Ben. It’s every woman’s dream to meet someone like Ben, and I fell in love hard with this couple.

I found myself intrigued with each new visit, curious to learn what Fallon and Ben had experienced during the previous year. It was exciting for me to read where each new visit would take them as a couple, especially when you factor in real life experiences. I was impressed by the character growth that Fallon and Ben show over the arc of the novel. Of course, Colleen Hoover is a master at weaving plot twists. If you’ve read any of her other novels, you probably already know to expect one when you read November 9. All I can tell everyone is to hold on tight while Hoover takes you for a ride! My emotions were literally up and down, all over the place, while I followed Ben and Fallon on their relationship journey.

Colleen Hoover gets a 6-star rating for November 9! It was absolutely perfect for me, and I am bursting with excitement to share my love for this novel with anyone who will listen! In a year where we have seen so many talented authors release outstanding novels, November 9 is a strong contender for my book of the year!

Michel’s Review

November 9 by Colleen Hoover has made my 2015 Favorites list.  This is a book you don’t want to miss!

Colleen Hoover has a special gift of creating a story that is flawless, effortless, and compelling.  Her characters take on a life of their own.  Their story reaches out and keeps you captive until the very last word.  As the story unfolds the reader becomes a part of the story and is falling in love as well.  But an epic love story is not the complete story.  Colleen adds a plot that sneaks up on the reader and smacks them in the face before they have a chance to see it coming.  The reader is so involved with the characters themselves and enraptured by their personalities that they don’t look for the hidden plot that is evolving.

Out of all of Colleen’s books I think November 9 is my favorite.  Ben and Fallon are both dynamic characters in completely different ways.  Their personalities complement each other and bring out the best in one another.  I loved seeing the personal growth between these two as individuals and as a couple as they were evolving into adulthood.  Both had their crosses to carry in life but let that one day each year become their magical moment where the only thing that existed in the world was each other. It was their time of acceptance, healing, and loving unconditionally.

For five years Ben and Fallon met on November 9.  Each year was a life altering moment in their lives.  They learned to love, to hurt, to ache, to accept, and to forgive.  Their journey began on November 9 and came to a full circle on November 9.  Several years of their lives were tied up in that one day, those precious moments that made the rest of their lives credible and worthwhile.

Colleen Hoover delivered an emotional story that will forever remain in my heart.

About Colleen Hoover

Author Bio:

image005Colleen Hoover’s love for writing began in 1985 when she was five years old. Her first story was titled “Mystery Bob” and was a huge hit with her mother, who was really good at faking interest.
Colleen continued to write short stories for friends and family until December of 2011, when she decided to write a long story she titled, “Slammed.” She self-published SLAMMED to Amazon in January, 2012 and it hit the NYT’s bestsellers list in May, 2012. She has since signed with Atria Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, and now has six NYT’s bestsellers. Colleen prefers to be called a writer, as the term “author” still terrifies her and makes this feel like a job with expectations. She doesn’t work well under pressure and hopes writing will always remain fun and exciting.
Colleen’s newest novel, UGLY LOVE, releases August 5th, 2014. She is currently working on a new novel, CONFESS, which she is writing as fast as she can before she wakes up from this crazy dream.

You can follow Colleen on Instagram and Twitter @colleenhoover. You can also find her on her blog at http://www.colleenhoover.com where she holds a daily book-a-day giveaway, or on her very active Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/authorcolleenhoover where she loves to give away more free stuff when her husband isn’t looking.

Colleen also wants the world to know that writing short biographies in third person is incredibly awkward.

Rebound Remedy

By Christine D’Abo

Synopsis

The last thing Cole expects to get for the holidays is dumped. But there he is, in the airport on his way to Banff for a romantic getaway, helplessly watching as his boyfriend’s ex declares undying love, proposes—and is accepted. With a few weeks to go until Christmas, Cole’s mood dives from jolly to jaded. But instead of sitting at home alone and feeling sorry for himself, he goes to his favorite bar, McGregor’s, for a pint and some company.
The moment Owen McGregor sets eyes on Cole, he knows there’s something wrong. So he takes it upon himself to ensure that Cole has a happy holiday: twelve outings for the twelve days before Christmas. Even if he can’t quite think up twelve activities that don’t involve getting the forlorn hunk into his bed.
With each outing they take together, Cole realizes that the love he thought he’d shared with his ex was less than perfect. And that Owen might prove to be more than just his rebound remedy.

Judging a Book by it’s Cover:
Cozy pair of males, lounging fully clothed Holiday graphics overlayed.
Looking Deeper:
Third-person narrative with a dual-angle perspective. Holiday novella: 150 – 200 pages.
Do nice guys always finish last? Cole planned a wonderful holiday vacation for him and his boyfriend only to be left – dumped – at the airport when said boyfriend’s ex shows up with a dramatic apology and marriage proposal. Now Cole is alone for the holidays in an apartment that holds no holiday joy. Enter Owen, local pub owner. He’s seen Cole come into his pub on many occasions, seen Cole’s unwavering and selflessly kind spirit. Now he sees a broken-hearted man and, for some reason, is compelled to “fix” him. Both lead males are great characters with plenty of positive attributes. There are minimal secondary characters. While the compatibility is obvious from the start, the chemistry is a slow and natural progression. Neither man is in a place to rush things and they are smart enough to enter into the friendship with open eyes. The dialogue and interactions are mostly believable. The plot is good and the flow is great. There are a few small conflicts along the way, but they are resolved in a timely manner. Predictability is low. The conclusion was not as satisfying as I’d hoped, it felt unfinished and rushed… too abrupt. I’d have liked to have seen an Epilogue that detailed Owen’s father’s prognosis as well as the guys meeting each others’ families down the road. Overall, not bad. I just was not a huge fan of it ending like it did.

Detective DrakTeatheredBond_highe Nash: hot, alpha, bossy, and… mine.

Now, if someone could tell his ex that… I don’t care if the summer fayre is coming to Holly Woods and she’s on the planning committee. What I do care about is sugar-filled food, bright lights, late nights… and danger. The type that won’t come in the form of Nonna’s new cantankerous British parrot, Gio. (Please see the damage done to Mom’s new curtains.)

Unfortunately, when the danger comes, it comes in the form of something Holly Woods has never seen. The town is rocked to its core, and once again, I’m in danger. Only this time, it isn’t because of my clients—this time, I’m in danger because of who I am… Because of my heritage.

And despite the HWPD’s best efforts, the bodies keep on piling up.

Danger. Mystery. Darkness. Malice.

It’s better for my sanity if I get this conversation with Nonna over and done with.

Oh my fuck. I have to meet the parrot, too. Holy fuckballs. What if the colorful rat sides with her?

Oh, who am I kidding? Of course it’s gonna side with Nonna.

Shit. Clearly, I can be swayed by the desperation of my future sister-in-law. I’ve really gotta get a handle on that crap. This should be Devin having this conversation, not me.

That thought hits right as I pull up behind Mom’s car on the drive. I take a deep breath, apprehension coiling in my lower stomach, and get out of my car. This feeling always hits whenever I get to my parents’ place, but today, it’s particularly strong. I know that Nonna will play the innocent card and make everything a lot harder.

I walk across the front yard, and a loud squawk rings in my ears. My heart stops for a brief second, and I bite my tongue. That thing is loud. How are Mom and Dad coping with that?

I knock on the front door twice before I push it open.

“Ye cruel wench! Ye vile wench! Cazzo! Cazzo!

Nice to meet you, too, Gio.

“Hello,” I call hesitantly, closing the door behind me.

“Aye! Ye bloody wench!”

“Oh, shut up, you little shit!” Mom yells.

I walk into the front room in time to see her cover the offending bird’s cage with a bedsheet.

“Wench! Wench!” Gio squawks from beneath the black sheet.

Mom smacks the cage. “I’ll wench your beak real soon!”

Oy vey. Things have sure gotten violent in the Bond family home.

Nonna shuffles into the front room and, upon seeing Gio covered, gasps. “Kellie, you-a let-a him go-a!”

Mom snorts. “Believe me, Liliana. If I could imprison the little shit, I would! My curtains are ruined!”

I glance at the window. There’s a giant rip in one of the drapes. The ones she bought two weeks ago.

Nonna gasps and rushes across the room, her cane nothing more than a steadying tool. “Gio!” she exhales, whipping the sheet off. “You-a okay?”

The concern on her face is comical. Oh, Nonna.

“Vile wench! Vile wench!” Gio shrills, violently flapping his bright-green wings. “Kellie, ye vile wench!”

I squint. Doesn’t seem like Gio’s conversational skills are up to much unless he’s going to hop on the Black Pearl.

“Hello?” I try again, stepping fully into the front room.

Nonna is leaning forward, cooing at the parrot, and ignores me. Mom turns, her nostrils flaring.

She’s mad.

“Nonna, do you know you can hear that thing halfway down the street?” I inquire.

“He is-a no thing,” Nonna murmurs. “He is-a Gio!”

Yeah, whatever.

Gio’s wings flap again, and Nonna stands. Two beady, black eyes focus on me, and it’s surprisingly uncomfortable. A high-pitched noise that sounds awfully like a whistle emits from the cage, and I blink harshly.

“Did he just—”

Gio interrupts me with a loud, unmistakable wolf whistle.

Holy shit. The parrot just wolf-whistled at me.

Good Girl vs. Bad Boy: The Marine Meets His Match
(Brody Brothers Book One)

Jessie Evans

Release Date -November 12, 2015

GGvsBBTeaser5

Synopsis

Let the battle of the sexes begin…

He’s hot, wild, unpredictable, untamable, and her best friend’s older brother.

Colton Brody is everything a good girl like Phoebe Page should avoid. But since her sister Kelly’s death, Phoebe isn’t as worried about being good as she used to be. She wants to live big with no regrets, the way Kelly did, and she intends to start with having a top secret, super steamy, no-strings-attached holiday fling with the man she’s crushed on her entire life.

What could go wrong?

Except everything?

Wounded in action and discharged without a chance to prove himself, all Colton cares about is getting back into the Marine Corps where he belongs. He will not get sucked into small town drama, will not take that promotion at the firehouse, and certainly won’t fall in love with his little sister’s best friend. He’s down for friends-with-benefits, nothing more, and plans to leave town long before quirky, bossy, cute-as-a-button Phoebe can get under his skin.

He is in control.

At least until a certain sexy brunette turns his world upside down.

It isn’t long before Colton finds himself buying flowers, talking feelings, and wishing Phoebe wanted more than another night of hot, no-holds-barred sex. Because when he’s with Phoebe even hot and dirty feels like making love.

Now Colton will have to decide what’s worth fighting for—the dreams a plane crash stole from him or the dream he’s holding in his arms.

WARNING: Good Girl vs. Bad Boy contains a mix of heart-warming romance, quirky characters, laugh out loud moments, and blisteringly hot banging. If you don’t like hot sex, laughter, mentions of humping unicorns, turkey bowling, off-beat town rituals, or graphic descriptions of artisanal pancakes, steer clear.

Tracey’s Review

When Phoebe Page returns home to Lover’s Leap, Colorado, she vows that she will take life by the horns, live like there’s no tomorrow, and have no regrets. And she’s off to a good start, she really is, until locking herself out of her house in her x-rated pajamas ends with her in the arms of none other than Colton Brody. Phoebe has been in love with Colton forever, but, to Colton, Phoebe’s always been just another little sister. Now, though, he’s seeing her in a whole new light, and all of his set-in-stone plans seem not quite so foolproof.

Seeing the unexpected death of her sister as her wake-up call, Phoebe wants to celebrate her sister’s memory by making the most of every day now that she’s back in Lover’s Leap. When she and Colton, a wounded warrior turned Lover’s Leap fireman, reconnect, there are sparks aplenty. And, though Phoebe and Colton start out as friends with benefits, it isn’t long before they both want more.

Any book that Jessie Evans writes is an immediate go-to for me. I have loved all of her series, enjoying especially the small town closeness, the importance of family, and the sure-to-be-found shenanigans in each of them. GOOD GIRL VS. BAD BOY has all of these things in abundance, and I could not have enjoyed it more. I found myself laughing out loud and fanning myself by turn, because not only is there abundant humor, there is steam by the boatload between these two. 5+ stars for Phoebe, Colton, and the rest of the Lover’s Leap crew. I can’t wait to see what Jessie has on tap for the other Brody’s, but have no doubt that it will be worth the wait.

About Jessie Evans

jessieNew York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Jessie Evans, gave up a career as an international woman of mystery to write the sexy, contemporary Southern romances she loves to read.

She’s married to the man of her dreams, and together they’re raising a few adorable, mischievous children in a cottage in the jungle. She grew up in rural Arkansas, spending summers running wild, being chewed by chiggers, and now appreciates her home in a chigger-free part of the world even more.

When she’s not writing, Jessie enjoys playing her dulcimer (badly), sewing the worlds ugliest quilts to give to her friends, going for bike rides with her house full of boys, and drifting in and out on the waves, feeling thankful for sun, surf, and lovely people to share them with.

91HuoSWvVPL._SL1500_#Hater – Book 2

The effect of that look lingered, like an unspoken promise, long after it was gone.

And we’re happy.

Zach doesn’t want us to be happy. He wants Romeo to pay for getting him kicked out of Omega and for the night he spent in jail. He’s going to use anything and everything he can to get his revenge. Including me.

As the weather on campus grows cold and the days become dark, revenge becomes the center of someone’s life and the happiness Romeo and I worked so hard for is threatened.

But it came knocking at my door.
When secrets and threats knock, I don’t hide.

Author Bio:

1002450_566018800108073_1486567823_n-2Cambria Hebert is a bestselling novelist of more than twenty books. She went to college for a bachelor’s degree, couldn’t pick a major, and ended up with a degree in cosmetology. So rest assured her characters will always have good hair. She currently resides in North Carolina with her children (human and furry) and her husband, who is a United States Marine.

Besides writing, Cambria loves a caramel latte, staying up late, sleeping in, and watching movies. She considers math human torture and has an irrational fear of chickens (yes, chickens). You can often find her running on the treadmill (she’d rather be eating a donut), painting her toenails (because she bites her fingernails), or walking her chorkie (the real boss of the house).

Cambria has written within the young adult and new adult genres, penning many paranormal and contemporary titles. Her favorite genre to read and write is romantic suspense. A few of her most recognized titles are: Text, Torch, Tryst, Masquerade, and Recalled.
