My Review

Lauren Blakely delivers a sinfully delicious love story that includes a sexy Brit that will have you so hot and bothered that you will want to tear off your knickers.

Matthew Harrigan is a british music critic for Beat Magazine.  He is smitten with Jane Black an up and coming rock star and has a secret crush that he can no longer deny.

Jane Black has just had the rug ripped out from under her when her husband reveals a deep dark secret that ultimately ends their marriage.  Janes break-up of her marriage inspires her to create an album that rises to the top of the charts very quickly and launches her into stardom.

But what happens when Jane gets over her husband and no longer is holding on to the pain of their break-up?  Was the pain the driving force behind her ability to write great music? Have the Gods of Rock-n-Roll abandoned her?

Maybe all she needs is a sexy Brit to inspire her…

Lauren does an excellent job developing her characters through their dialogue with each other.  Some of my favorite scenes from this story are the e-mail exchange between Jane and Matthew, the blowjob scene (you have to read the book for this scene alone), and I would be remiss if I did not mention the hot and steamy conversation filled with innuendo in the market.

MY REVIEW

You can only imagine what happens when a smoking hot fireman with a hero complex tries to rescue a damsel in distress that is no way interested in being rescued…A whole lot angst and sexual tension are sure to follow.

Flynn Caldwell has a track record for dating women with a lot of baggage that he thinks he can save.  His family and friends are tired of seeing Flynn brokenhearted when these women leave him behind.

“My family and friends would be thinking there goes Flynn…off to save another soul…”

Rowan Paige has never experienced love even as a child she was neglected.  She has been taking care of herself for a very long time and does not need anyone’s help. However lately she has not made the best decisions.  When she finds herself shackled to a bed in a burning house..she questions herself in that shacking up with a drug dealer may not have been such a good idea.  Still she is stubborn to the core.  Flynn just wants to help her find her dog…well for now anyway…

Rowan-“I told you I don’t need your help, so you might as well turn around and march out of here, too.”

Flynn-“Well, tough shit…I’m going to help you find your dog whether you like it or not.  And it will get done a lot faster if we work with each other rather than against each other.”

I love me a hot alpha Caldwell male. Whew!  Sawyer once again does an outstanding job developing her characters.  Rowan is like a feral cat but Flynn knows exactly how to calm her down and break away at the ice that surrounds her heart. He knows how important it is for Rowan to earn her keep and admires her for it.  Rowan is also very funny, smart, and sexy, and it is easy to see Flynn become smitten with her.

A man can only take so much though, and Rowan has a concrete wall surrounding her heart.  Will she push him too hard and lose her only friend and the man of her dreams…

If you have read any of the Off Series you will love Off Chance.  Plus Emily and Nix have a cameo in this book and they are my favorite Off Couple.  (It would seem that I have an addiction to hot military alpha heros…go figure).

 EXCERPT FROM OFF CHANCE

I can only imagine what Thanksgiving would be like with the Caldwells. There will be plenty of good food, lots of laughter, and probably some naps when it’s all said and done.

“And Capone can come, too,” Flynn throws in to entice me further, but I’d already decided to accept.

“Okay. We’re in. Can you ask your mom what I can bring?”

“I’ll ask but I know she’ll say ‘don’t bring a thing but yourself’.”

I laugh over Flynn’s impersonation of his mom’s Irish accent. “In that case, don’t bother asking and I’ll just bring something. Maybe a pie.”

“You can cook?” Flynn asks with astonishment.

“Of course I can cook,” I tell him with indignation.

“Then how come all we ever have is pizza or bologna sandwiches when it’s your turn to cook?”

“Just because I can cook, doesn’t mean I want to. This is the twenty-first century pal… get with the times. Women have shed the chains of slavery and we no longer serve you menfolk.”

Flynn throws his head back and starts howling with laughter, then he pitches forward, holding the hand with Capone’s leash to his stomach while he laughs, with the other holding onto his hot cocoa. It’s infectious and I start laughing along with him.

He looks at me and our eyes meet.

Then it happens… there is almost a crackle in the air, like electricity is flowing between us. Flynn’s laughter immediately dies away and the smile slides from my face. The same happens to me and nothing is left in our expressions except a focused intensity on each other. It’s almost as if I can feel heat swirling all around us, and the backdrop of the world fades to black.

Until nothing is left but just Flynn and me.

I call it “The Happening” and it represents those few times when the resolve to just be friends seems to melt away into oblivion. It occurs at the weirdest of times and I have no control over it. When I’m in that moment with Flynn, I want nothing more than for him to grab me and kiss me like I was the oxygen his lungs crave. I want to strip him bare and use just my fingertips to trace every inch of skin on his body. I want to get lost… deeply lost, in Flynn.

“The Happening” hits Flynn just as hard as it hits me. I see the desire light him up from within. I feel the sexual tension pouring off him with visceral awareness, and I swear I can feel his heart moaning for me.

When “The Happening” occurs, I am powerless to fight it. In fact, if Flynn ever made a move to touch me during the event, I would completely submit to him body and soul. But thankfully, Flynn is a stronger person than I am, and he is clearly the more responsible of the two of us. He’ll usually snap out of it first, and bring me crashing back to reality.

Like he does right at this moment.

My thoughts on the Masters and Mercenaries Series

I have absolutely fallen in love with this series.  Spies, espionage, and intrigue all packaged up in a hot dominant male package.  All the men at McKay-Taggart are smoking hot and the women are amazingly strong sexy submissives.  Ian Taggart has been the constant hard ass in all of the books so far.  He does not do relationships, shows no emotion or weakness, except for one night a year where he gets drunk and listens to Guns and Roses.  You can’t help but want to see him fall hard for a woman.  My heart goes out to Charlotte for trying.  All of the books in this series take the reader on amazing journeys to countries like Scotland and England where these sexy spies get mixed up with Scotland Yard and MI-6.  If you like Jason Bourne meets Fifty Shades of Grey then you will love this series.

My Review

Anyone that has read any of the masters and mercenaries books knows that Ian Taggart can be the worlds biggest jackass. Ian proves himself to be a man of very little kind words once again in “Love and Let Die” when his wife Charlotte comes back from the dead and shows up on his doorstep.

Charlotte is my favorite female leading lady so far in this series because she is a freaking genius spy that is sinfully sexy and sassy as hell. This short little conversation between Charlotte and Ian cracked me up. She is such a little tramp and I love it.

“You tied up my banking accounts. You moved them to another name.” -Ian Taggart

“I should get points for calling you Hottie McHot Pants. I meant it as a compliment. ”-Charlotte Taggart

That is just a little taste of Charlotte Taggart. She proves to be one tough chick that should not be crossed. Once again I could not stop turning the pages to see what was going to happen next. From shootouts to explosions, to spies and espionage, and of course Eli Nelson wreaking havoc… there is more action packed in this book then there was in the last Bond flick. Lexi once again writes a very vivid story with an amazing amount of detail to the point that the reader can close their eyes and imagine that they are there. She develops these awesome characters that are so damaged from their past and you get to watch them as they deal with their inner demons. Charlotte has to deal with the horrible memories of her childhood and what her father did to her and her sister Chelsea. Ian has had a heart of ice for the past five years and has serious trust issues because of Charlotte’s betrayal. The dominant side of Simon also appears when he is confronted with the damage Chelsea is dealing with.

(Please Lexi write a book about Simon. I can already hear that sexy British accent in my head demanding submission.)

If you like action, hot Doms, scorching hot sex scenes, and sassy Subs you must and I say must read “Love and Let Die”.

My Review of FAST FORWARD

4 Stars

There is a plan in place.  Cassie and Josh present a united front in order to be eligible to adopt their biological son.  The toughest road is behind them right? They been through so much.  What could stop them now?  Little did they know that Josh’s father would put a stumbling block in their way.  They never would have thought that another family might want to adopt Lucas.

Can Cassie and Josh even survive as a couple if they are unable to get Lucas back?

It was heartbreaking to see everything that Josh and Cassie had to go through to be able to adopt their own son.  I fell in love with Josh and Cassie all over again in Fast Forward and grew to admire their strength and courage throughout the adoption process.  My only complaint is how this story ended.  It was a bit abrupt and I felt a little robbed of Josh and Cassie’s final “Happily Ever After”.  I felt like there were some unanswered questions as well.

Overall Fast Forward was a very enjoyable read.  I would love it if Marion would give us a holiday novella someday to get another glimpse of Josh and Cassie’s happiness.

My Review of NO REVERSE

If you could turn back time and change one thing, what would it be?  For Cassie it would have been lying to Josh about their son.  Cassie is a beautiful and strong woman that has always put everyone else’s best interests ahead of her own.  She loved Josh with all her heart and soul and could not bring herself to allow him to walk away from his dream.  When she finds out that he got into Georgetown she does what she thinks is right.  She ends up paying a high price for what she has done.  She is able to lift her head high and smile because Josh is living his dream.  That is more important to her than her own happiness.

When life takes a crazy turn and her son’s adoptive parents die in an accident, Cassie knows this is her only chance to make her life whole again.  She needs her son more than she needs air to breathe.  The problem is that she is a single mom with no education and waits tables for living.  No one in their right mind would approve of her adopting her son.  She might have a chance though if she can get Josh on board.  There are two major problems standing in her way, the fact that Josh just sent her divorce papers, and that he has no idea that Lucas exists.

Almost immediately my heart ached for Cassie.  She is selfless and loves fiercely with everything she has.  I was in awe of her strength when she finally confronts Josh to tell him about their son.

Josh has done really well for himself because after he left Steep Hill he did nothing but study.  He put all of his energy into making excellent grades to bury the pain that was deep down inside after he left Cassie.  He was able to bury her so deep that he allowed himself to fall in love again and is very excited to be marrying Eleanor.  She compliments him beautifully and together they could conquer the political world and possibly have a chance at the White House someday.  So…you can only imagine the hell that breaks loose when Cassie shows up at Oxford and drops the bomb about Josh’s son.  Talk about a scandal that could ruin someones political career.

Will sparks of lust or anger ignite when fate brings Josh and Cassie together again?  Is it too late?  Does Josh’s heart belong to Eleanor now?  What if Josh and Eleanor raised Lucas as their own?

Marion Croslydon develops amazing characters.  Josh and Cassie are just good people that find themselves in a bad situation.  Cassie has the best intentions and just wants what right.  Whats right is Lucas living with his birth parents.  This couple is amazingly mature for their age and are willing to walk through fire for those that they love.

This story grabbed a hold of my heart and would not let go.  No Reverse will capture your heart, body, and soul.

Fun Facts about FAST FORWARD

• I started writing the first book in the Second Chances series (No
Reverse) the day I found out I was pregnant. I was so overjoyed, but it got me thinking about women or girls for whom the news isn’t all it should be. That was how I started talking to Cassie and she told me what happened with Josh when she was seventeen. Yeah, I’m a bit batty like that. I wrote Fast Forward with my baby girl on my lap.

• In my head, Josh looks very much like Channing Tatum in Dear John. He‘s a very decent guy with a flaming temper underneath the apparent self-control and coolness.

• Sam—who is a secondary character in No Reverse and Fast Forward—is also in my paranormal series, The Oxford Trilogy. Readers keep telling me how much they love him and I hope I can give him his own girl and his own book very soon. So watch the space!

• No Reverse was supposed to be a stand-alone novel. I reached my word count and there was still so much to happen before Cassie and Josh could be a family at last. I didn’t want the ending to be rushed, but I didn’t want the book to be a New Adult version of War and Peace (like very, very long 😉 hence the sequel Fast Forward.

• I love Emma Stone’s voice. It’s all raspy and husky. I read it was because of a bad bout with colic when she was a baby. She kept screaming and screaming. I used that for Cassie although I twisted the story a little bit. She’s a Country singer and her voice is something she values and works on very much.
