Her stories are written with layers upon layers of well-thought-out details, which give her novels depth while also building the plot towards its climax. Romig’s latest storyline encompasses the Infidelity series – a group of five novels which tell the tale of the Montagues, Demetris, Fitzgeralds and Spencers – of which we have now arrived at the concluding novel titled Fidelity.
Each time I review a novel of the Infidelity series, I make it a point to emphasize this series is not about cheating on a partner or spouse. I know many readers are sensitive to the topic of cheating, but according to Romig, “The Infidelity series does not advocate or glorify cheating. This series is about the inner struggle of compromising your beliefs for your heart. It is about cheating on yourself, not someone else.”
So, how do I possibly review the concluding novel of an EPIC series without giving away any spoilers? Even the synopsis of Fidelity is vague! All I can tell you is it was PERFECT! From the chaos and confusion of the prologue and first chapter to the warmth, happiness and satisfaction of the epilogue, Fidelity solidly held my focus with twists and turns and reveals galore – some of the information revealed even made my jaw drop!
Aleatha Romig is the BEST at writing a mystery! In the previous novels of this series – Betrayal, Cunning, Deception and Entrapment – I accumulated a long list of questions. In Fidelity, she answered my questions, including the one that was the most pressing! Romig is very creative in how she reveals her secrets, not only with ordinary conversations and character internal dialogue, but with spying via monitoring devices and the listening in of phone conversations. Information is uncovered in small doses throughout the novel, and with each new revelation, I found myself craving more!
Every time I read an Aleatha Romig novel, I’m amazed with the quality of her writing. It is SO evident to me that she cares dearly about the integrity of her craft. It shows in the finished product. I can’t begin to imagine the amount of time and detail involved in plotting this 5-book series, and Romig’s writing is flawless. So much of the character dialogue was extremely interesting in Fidelity. The root of Nox and Charli’s story is buried beneath so many layers, but it has been an absolute pleasure for me to uncover it!
I really enjoyed reading about Charli and Nox, but what I found surprising is that Oren and Adelaide became important to me too! When I think about the journey the primary Infidelity characters have been on, I can see just how well they were developed. Charli survived oppression and has grown into a strong, confident woman. Nox lived through devastating loss, and now he has opened himself up to loving others. Even Adelaide and Oren were beautifully developed.
Infidelity is my favorite of Romig’s series. From the settings, the old world, southern Montague money and the Demetri family connections, the mix of underhandedness, legitimate family business and mafia ties, to the characters, I enjoyed this series immensely. Aleatha Romig simply left me craving more! Fidelity grabs a 6-star rating and is the first of my 2017 favorites!
