Borrowing Trouble by Becky McGraw Blog Tour + Review + *Giveaway*

Borrowing Trouble (#12, Texas Trouble)

Carrie Collins has been trying to hold it together for three years, since her husband Sean was killed in the line of duty during an undercover drug operation gone bad. If that and the mountain of bills she was left with weren’t bad enough, her son becomes mixed up with the wrong crowd at school. Carrie feels like a failure as a mother, and does the only thing she can think of to fix things, she goes back to her parent’s ranch.

Her dead husband’s best friend, the man accused, but later exonerated of, Sean’s murder shows up at the ranch with his new wife and offers her a break from the kids and the craziness of her life. Carrie is reluctant to accept, but he won’t take no for an answer. She goes to the R & R Ranch, but doesn’t find relaxation there. What she finds is a tall, charismatic ex-rodeo cowboy who not only ties her emotions in more knots than his lasso, he wakes up her dormant libido.

Carrie fights the attraction, because the last thing she needs is a man like Dylan Thomas in her life, a tumbleweed kind of guy who tells her in no uncertain terms he isn’t looking for a relationship. She knows her kids deserve better and so does she. Her kids aren’t there though, and the temporary fantasy he represents becomes too much to resist.

Dylan Thomas wants nothing more than to return to competitive bull riding after an almost career-ending injury landed him at the R & R Ranch teaching rich greenhorns to ride bulls. A year and a half of catering to those wealthy snobs has him bored and restless, until a curvy brunette convinces him it might not be so bad to hang around for a little while longer.

Carrie Collins takes hard to get to an olympic-class level though, and it takes everything in Dylan’s bag of tricks to get close to her. When things finally heat up between them, he finds out there are a couple of things she hasn’t told him about. Like the two kids she has who show up at the ranch, and the job she has accepted there.

His temporary fling with the cute ranch guest suddenly gets a lot more complicated and permanent. Especially when former associates of her son turn up at the ranch demanding money she doesn’t have. Dylan knows then he’s borrowed a helluva lot of trouble he didn’t need in his life by getting involved with her, but when the opportunity to leave presents itself, how can he leave her in danger?

Tracey’s Review
4-Stars

Carrie Collins is a widow, and the mother of two headstrong kids. Her oldest, Chris, has been in all kinds of trouble since the death of her husband, and it’s taking its toll on her. Dylan Thomas is a former rodeo bronco rider. After an accident left him unable to do the work he loved, he hired on at the R&R Ranch, showing pampered vacationers how to ride.

When taking care of her son’s escapades proves too much, Carrie is sent off from some spa time at the R&R Ranch by some friends. The last thing that she’s looking for is a man, especially a sexy cowboy, who doesn’t do relationships. Carrie has only ever had one relationship, with her husband, an undercover detective. After he was killed in the line of duty, life became one hardship after another. Forced to sell her home and move back in with her parents, she is constantly worried about making ends meet. She’s constantly stressed, even at the R&R, and when she’s stressed, she bakes. Cakes, cookies, cupcakes, she does it all.

Then there’s Dylan. Oh, Dylan. He’s lived a hard life, never had any roots, after the death of his parents sent him and his brothers into the foster care system. He signed on with the rodeo at a young age, and has never stopped roaming. His time at the R&R is as close to settled as he’s ever been.

“One night stands are my type, temporary women. I don’t do relationships. You bake cookies, sweetheart. Not my type.”

As much as they fight it, though, neither Carrie nor Dylan are able to avoid the attraction that draws them to each other. And, though they think otherwise, maybe each of them is exactly what the other needs.

‘Borrowing Trouble’ is the twelfth book in the ‘Texas Trouble’ series by Becky McGraw. I was completely able to read it as a standalone, although I would like to go back and read the previous books. I really enjoyed the story, and the characters were all so likable. I really felt for Carrie, who was truly just doing what she could to keep it together. And Dylan, even when he was being a jerk, was so sexy and funny, that I just couldn’t help but love him. What I also liked about this books is that there is a whole subplot that is more suspense that keeps the action going. The author has done a nice job of inter-weaving the two storylines, making this more than just a love story. This book was a solid 4 stars for me, and I would recommend it if you’re looking for a fast-paced story that has elements of suspense and drama, along with all the sexy hotness of a good cowboy romance.

 Excerpt

Ready or not, Dylan didn’t leave or back off. His heat surrounded her, as his body crowded her from behind. His fingers brushed her skin as he pushed her hair aside to lean over her shoulder. He stuck his nose into the crook of her neck and inhaled deeply, then hovered here a moment with his hot breath tickling the shell of her ear. The richer, deeper timber of his voice vibrated through her, as he finally asked, “You like to bake. Is that why you smell like sugar cookies?” Electricity zipped down her spine when his lips touched down briefly on a spot right behind her ear. Carrie shivered and he laughed.

“Or do you just wear the dough behind your ear to tease me, because you know I have a weakness for sugar cookies?” After a final flick of his hot, wet tongue, he moved away. Cool air hit the wet imprint left by his mouth, and Carrie shivered. Her nails curled into her palms, and she sucked in a breath when they scraped her burn. The spatula clattered to the stove, and she sucked the fleshy pad at the side of her palm into her mouth.

Dylan grabbed her hand to inspect it. “Did you burn yourself?” he asked with concern. “We need to take you to the med shack and get Terri to bandage it. I was headed out there when I heard the smoke alarm, but I didn’t see her out there.”

“It’s fine,” Carrie said tugging her hand away. He didn’t let it go. Instead, he brought it to his mouth and kissed it slowly as he held her gaze. Carrie licked her lips, tasting the sugar cookies she had to taste test before she put them in the oven. “Um, I, ah…” she stammered, at a loss for words as she stared at the blatant desire in his eyes.

“Do you ride?” he asked suddenly.

Her dazed mind spun trying to process the words. “Since I could walk,” Carrie replied once she wrapped her mind around what he’d asked.

“I have a few days off for my arm to heal. Will you go riding with me this afternoon?

You need to relax a little,” he said with a little smile.

Carrie didn’t know how spending time with this cowboy would lend itself to relaxation. Every time she got within three feet of him, she was wound tighter than she had been in years. Being alone with him, wouldn’t help her put distance between them. But her mouth opened, and “Yes,” fell out, before she could stop it.

She only had two days left here, and she couldn’t resist the opportunity to feel like a desirable woman once more. That’s how he made her feel. Something she hadn’t felt in three years, and wasn’t likely to feel again for a long time after she left this ranch. Dylan made her forget her grief, forget her problems. Carrie knew agreeing to spend time with him was just avoidance. Her problems would still be there when she went back to her parents’ ranch. Right now though, he would help her forget for an afternoon.

“Come out to the barn around two, and I’ll have the horses saddled.”

“I can help,” she offered, and her gaze fell to his shoulder. “You’re hurt. You shouldn’t be saddling anything. Are you sure you’re okay to ride?”

He laughed and his smile broadened. “I could ride with one arm tied behind my back.”

“I’ll ride with you, if you let me saddle the horses then,” she propositioned.

“Deal,” he replied and his deep voice vibrated along her nerve endings. When he leaned toward her, Carrie held her breath. His lips touched hers, lingered for a second, then with a playful little nip to her lower lip, he stood back up and smiled. “You taste like sugar cookies.”

“That’s what the lumps of coal in the trash were,” she replied with an embarrassed laugh.

“Give me some of those beautiful biscuits, and a few of those cupcakes to take back to the bunkhouse with me.” Dylan eyed them over her shoulder. “I’ll make some gravy to go with the biscuits for breakfast.” His tongue made a circuit around his lips, and her eyes were dragged around with it. Heat settled between her legs, and her lips sizzled.

She would give him the whole damned pan if he kissed her again. But he didn’t. He just stood there staring. Waiting. For her to do something. Oh, yeah, ice the cupcakes and wrap up biscuits for him. Heat shot up to her cheeks, and Carrie walked to the refrigerator to get the bowl of icing. She iced the cupcakes, while he leaned against the counter watching her. Moving around him, she brought the bowl to the sink, then opened the cabinet beside it to look for a container. The one she wanted was on the upper shelf, and she couldn’t reach it even on her tip toes. Huffing a frustrated breath, she balanced on her arms, then climbed up on the counter. Sometimes it sucked being short, she thought, as she stood to drag it down from the top shelf. When she turned around to get down Dylan was right there behind her.

He smiled up at her and put his hand at her knee. “I couldn’t help you get it down, but I wanted to make sure you didn’t fall,” he informed with a shrug.

Carrie eased down to sit on the counter, and he grabbed the container from her to sit it on the counter, before he nudged her knees apart to make a space for his hips. He slid his hands up her thighs to grip her hips, and Carrie’s heart did a leap in her chest. “And I wanted a real kiss. You’re at the perfect height now for that to happen.”

His eyes dropped to her mouth, and he licked his lips again. “Kiss me, Carrie,” he invited, not making a move to kiss her. He just waited, while staring at her mouth, which felt like it was on fire. Carrie licked her own lips, then hesitantly leaned toward him, stopping when her mouth was within millimeters of his to catch her breath, to get her out of control heart to slow down.

“Kiss me, Carrie,” he whispered again.

She put her palms on his bare chest and his heated skin felt like smooth silk under her touch. His warm, musky morning scent enflamed her senses, as she closed the space between them to take a tentative pass over his mouth with hers, then another. That evidently wasn’t enough for him, because his left hand moved up from her hip. He shoved his hand into her hair, cradling her skull to pull her closer, as his mouth devoured hers. He feasted on her lips like they were the best thing he’d ever tasted.

His were the best she had tasted in a helluva long time, that was for sure. Minty toothpaste, and the sweetness of the man kissing her flooded her senses. Carrie couldn’t get enough of him. Her hands moved to circle his neck and pull him closer still. He was right, this counter was at the perfect height for kissing and so much more.

The inside of her knee brushed the warm skin at his hip, where his pajama pants rode low. Fire shot up the inside of her thigh to her center and she throbbed there in time with her heart. Without conscious thought, Carrie wrapped her legs around his waist to pull him closer to where she needed him. Dylan moaned into her mouth, and his tongue courted hers in time with his hips, as he ground himself into her.

His erection hit her in just the perfect spot, and her breath came in short pants as her pleasure inched up with each stroke. When she couldn’t breathe, she dragged her mouth from his and threw her head back. His lips latched onto the side of her neck and he sucked her there. Carrie moaned loudly, thrusting her hips against him, reaching for the release that was just out of her reach. “Oh, God, Dylan…yes, make me come,” she whispered hotly.

His fingers dug into her right hip, as he continued to suck her neck. “Lord, woman…I want to fuck you right here on Penny’s counter,” he growled into her ear, increasing the pace of his thrusts.

That was the hottest damned thing Carrie had ever heard. The only place she’d ever made love was in the bedroom. Behind closed doors. Most of the time with the kids rattling the doorknob, or yelling for her. Just the naughty image of doing it right here that flickered through her mind, sent her tumbling over the edge.

Smart, Sexy, and Ugly Beautiful…

From the very beginning of this book I kept telling myself there was no way that Amanda Legend was to fall for Ryan.  He is the exact reason why she is estranged from her father and has been cut off financially.  He is the reason her dream to move to NY and amazing internship is not going to happen.  But when no one in Hollywood will help her, or hire her for any work and she does not have a dime to her name, it seems that Ryan might be her only hope.

I have adored this series so far.  Maggie has worked in the film industry and her knowledge really shows in her plot development.  I love how broken Ryan and Amanda are and how they find a common ground to build a sold friendship on.  I also am enchanted by the nasty villain in this story Kiley Kepner.  She is a piece of work that you will love to hate.  Wow!  Purely vindictive and self-centered.  She also amazes me at how much she does what she wants to do with no fear of any consequences.  I kept turning the pages to see when she was finally going to get what was coming to her.

This story is filled with sexual chemistry and tension between Ryan and Amanda.  She becomes his light as he is dealing with his demons.  She tells him how it is and how it should be and does not care if he wants to hear it or not.  That is what keeps him grounded and he finds that he likes seeing this side of her.  She has shown him her true colors and is not the Amanda Legend that backs down from a fight that she has always seemed to be.

The Glamour Series will take you on a joy ride behind the scenes in Hollywood that you will never forget.  I have certainly enjoyed the ride so far and am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Each title in the Glamour series may be read as a standalone.

What’s a girl to do when she has nowhere else to turn? She moves to the Outer Banks and learns to bartend. Tracey’s Review

4-Stars

Carly doesn’t know what to do with her life. Recently graduated from college, and with a less-than-perfect home life, she heads to Corolla, NC, to see her brother and figure out what comes next. Macon is living his dream as a dive instructor, loving life and the ladies in Corolla.

When Carly shows up to stay with her brother Colin to escape trouble at home, she doesn’t have any real plan. She ends up working at the Grille, a local beach hangout, with Colin’s girlfriend Maddy, and quickly works her way up to bartender. Macon, one of Maddy’s roommates, is working as a dive instructor, living in the moment, and not thinking past the end of the summer. He and Carly hit it off, and when Maddy moves in with Colin, Macon asks Carly to take her place as roommate. Problem, though: there is a mad attraction between Carly and Macon, and even though they fight it, they are on a collision course towards each other.

‘On the Rocks’ is the second in the ‘Mixology’ series by Alyssa Rose Ivy. We’ve already met Maddy, Colin, Macon, and Brody in her first book, and they are all very much present in this book, too. Alyssa typically writes very readable stories, and this one was no exception. I found ‘On the Rocks’ to be an enjoyable read, with characters who are likeable, if on the young side, with an engaging storyline. Everything is wrapped up very nicely by the end of the book, although I’d love to see more of the gang, especially Brody, in the future. A nice solid 4-star read.

Kelley’s Review

The Thieves Series is a must read!

This series is so masterfully written that you will lose track of time and everything around you as you embark on a new mission to steal the unobtainable. Lexi takes you on an incredible journey through several different worlds where you meet some very unique and memorable characters. Steal the Night begins with the journey to find Merlin. They have to get that device that Marini has put on Daniel’s heart removed if he ever has a chance in hell to be king. The journey they embark on to find Merlin will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The banter between characters is hysterical. Lexi delivers so many funny one liners I could not keep track. I laughed out loud to the point that the people sitting next to me on my flight to DC were giving me strange looks.

Dev sighed. “i can’t get Dan interested in public sex. There’s even a club here in Dallas. He won’t let us go.”

OMG! I died laughing when I saw that Lexi had referenced Sanctum in Steal The Night. I don’t know how Ian would feel about vampires and faeries hanging out at Sanctum.

Zoey again is the babysitter for her husbands as they try little experiments with each other. I loved it when she chastised them for their stupid stunts. Just to let you know they pull a lot of stupid stunts.

Before long Marini appears and wants what Zoey stole for him. The blood stone. Once Marini gets his hands on the blood stone and its power is revealed all hell breaks loose. In the exchange he manages to get a taste of Zoey. He was obsessed with her before, but now she is like his heroin and he cannot live without his fix. Lee steps up to the plate again and becomes Zoey’s rock and protector. She loves him and he loves her like family and he will do anything to keep her safe. He is her one loyal ally in this mess that keeps her secrets and that helps her preserve her sanity as things spin out of control. There are so many twists and turns on this thrill ride that you will be clinging to the edge of your seat bracing yourself for what is going to happen next.

Lexi put her heart and soul into this series and it shows. Zoey, Daniel, and Dev experience tragic events on their journey that I am almost positive Lexi has experienced herself. I believe she wrote this series as means to work through some heartache and pain she suffered in her past and share with readers that they are not alone. I cannot thank her enough for taking a risk and writing something so memorable that it became a part of me and found its way into my heart and soul. The love that is portrayed in this book will grasp your heart strings and never let go. I bawled like a baby when I thought that Lexi had killed one of the main characters. You never know what to expect when a series comes to an end. Don’t be deceived there is loss in this final chapter but you will awestruck as to how that loss is formed into a new beginning.

Lexi Blake is an artist when it comes to writing urban fantasy.  I am grateful everyday that I have been a part of this journey and I am so excited to see what is in store for us next.

Tracey’s Review – 4 Stars

Trinity Ewing has moved to Madison to get a fresh start for herself and her son Micah. Noah Benningfield was born and raised in Madison, and has spent years trying to forget the loss of his youth.

Noah and Trinity meet when he begins restoring the house that she and Micah have moved into. Both have pasts that they would like to forget, and find themselves inexplicably drawn to each other. Trinity is afraid that her ghosts will come between her and Noah, and Noah feels that he doesn’t deserve Trinity. Still, though, they find themselves growing closer and closer.

The love relationship in ‘Deeper Than Need’ is woven amidst the back story, a mystery involving the girl that Noah loved and lost when he was a teenager. Shiloh Walker does a great job of introducing secondary characters that keep the reader guessing exactly who knows what. As well, the heat between Trinity and Noah is well-written, and I found myself hoping that they could get past the obstacles keeping them apart and move forward together.

I don’t want to give away too much, as the story depends upon revealing pieces of information bit by bit to get to the heart of exactly what happened in the big house that Trinity now calls home. I enjoyed this book very much, found it easy to read, and did not want to put it down. I look forward to the next book in the ‘Secrets and Shadows’ series to see what Shiloh Walker has in store for her characters.

But DiLorenzo women don’t back down, and Tammy always gets what she wants. In the wake of the lies and losses, she’s prepared to do whatever it takes for a second chance. She’ll give it all—for the love of a lush.

Kristyn’s Review
bigstock_Five_stars_Mesh_13933472
I love everything about this series. Walsh and Tammy have this amazing relationship before everything went south. They had been together forever and still felt the same way about each other. They were ingrained in each others DNA. But when the truth about Tammy and Joss came out, Walsh couldn’t take it. He needed to get away from Tammy and everything else and focus on himself and not going back to drinking.

Tammy had time and therapy to get over the events that led to the big emotional mess but she never got past her love and need for Walsh. So she sets out to get him back. To make him realize they are meant for each other and can overcome anything.

This book was so emotional. I felt every second of it. There is a kind of magic in some books. They make you feel everything the characters feel. You become the book and everything in it. This was completely one of those books. I was mad and I was pulled apart with them. This book evoked such emotion in me. It is so relatable.

It built this relationship and it felt so reaffirming when they were able to work everything out. This may be a fiction but it gives me faith in reality. That’s a powerful thing.

A Lush Betrayal

(Lush No. 1)

Joss Jamison has it all. He’s the lead singer for the world’s hottest rock band, Lush. He’s wealthy, sexy, talented…and miserable. Twelve months ago, Joss lost his finely honed control and made a mistake he can’t undo. A mistake that could end up costing him his best friend, his band, and maybe his heart.

Mel DiLorenzo has it all. She’s been hired to document the world tour of her sister’s fiance’s rock band. She’s gorgeous, talented, loved…and sick of being the little sister. When she agrees to the summer job, Mel has no idea she’s walking into a minefield of friendships lost and hearts destroyed. She also has no idea what it means to be the object of Joss Jamison’s affections.

One hot rock star plus one life-altering mistake, add a dash of sexy younger sister and a handful of broken hearts, and you’ve got a recipe for fire. Life on the road can be hot, but for the boys of Lush, it’s about to get a whole hell of a lot hotter.

About This Book

Fall to You is the second book in the Here and Now series. It is not a stand-alone and is intended to be read following Lost in Me. Hanna’s story concludes in book three, All for This.

Torn between two men…

When I woke up after the accident, I couldn’t remember anything from the last year—including my relationship with Max Hallowell or anything about Nate Crane. Now my memories are returning, but instead of answering my questions, they’re leaving me with more.

The man who broke my heart and wants to be my future…

Max is all I ever wanted, and now he wants to marry me. He’ll do everything he can to fill my life with love, family, and security. I need those things now more than ever. But can I trust him?

The man who stole my heart and wants to let me go…

Nate never made me promises, and I never asked him to. I’d been on the rebound, looking for a distraction, and he made me feel beautiful and wanted when I needed to feel those things most. He says he has to let me go, but what if I can’t let go of him?

With every revelation and every passing day, I feel more like Alice down the rabbit hole. I’m falling. Who will catch me?

Fall to You Teaser 1 v2

Excerpt

Three Months before Hanna’s Accident

“I want to introduce you to Nate Crane.”

I lift my head and suddenly I’m sucking in air because my eyes are connected with the man who flirted with me earlier. He’d had a hat and sunglasses on in the bar, and I hadn’t recognized him, but this time his identity is clear.

“Hanna, this is Nate Crane. Nate, this is Hanna, my sister.”

His eyes sweep over me the way a guy’s eyes are supposed to sweep over a girl. The way Asher’s eyes sweep over Maggie every time she enters a room. The way William’s eyes sweep over Cally when he doesn’t think she’s looking. It sends a little buzz through me that’s not quite a chill but not quite electric either. Just a nice, warm shimmy of sensation that starts at my core and radiates out through my limbs.

Then I check behind me because I’m sure I’m mistaken. He was just playing around at the bar, right? I mean, guys don’t look at me like that. They look at my sisters like that; they look at my best friends like that.

“Maggie never told me her sister was so gorgeous,” Nate says, putting an end to any debate over his attraction to me.

My cheeks warm with a flush I can feel all the way from my chest to my hairline.

“Maggie, I did tell you I have a thing for sweet girls who blush, didn’t I? Is she my birthday present? I’d say you shouldn’t have, but I’d be lying.” He says all this without taking his eyes off me. His gaze drifts over me again, slower this time, lingering at my waist, my hips, my feet in strappy, heeled sandals. “I was a good boy this year. I deserve her.”

Maggie thumps him in the chest with the back of her hand. “She’s a woman, not some trinket or object that can be given.”

“Oh,” he says, his voice so low I can barely make it out, “I noticed she’s a woman.”

“We met earlier,” I say quickly. “In the bar. He’s just teasing.”

Maggie huffs. “Deserve or not, you can’t have her. Hanna has a boyfriend.”

Oh, no. No, Hanna doesn’t. But I didn’t tell Maggie about Max. It hurt too much to share what I’d learned. I’m too proud to share it. And if I want to keep our split a secret, I couldn’t really tell her if I wanted to. I can’t risk telling anyone.

Nate takes my hand, clearly undeterred by the mention of competition. “Tell me she’s lying. Please? It’s my birthday tomorrow.”

“And you wanted me to jump out of a cake for you?” I retort, but I let him play with my fingers and try to keep my breathing steady. His touch brings back something I didn’t think anyone but Max could make me feel.

“I wouldn’t complain.”

I’m fresh out of spunk, and stare stupidly. Nate Crane is six feet some-odd inches of deliciously tatted, freshly showered rocker. In ripped-up jeans and a Star Wars tee, he exudes a geekiness that’s only amplified by the tattoos peeking out from under the sleeves. The rest of him is essentially a catalogue of every woman’s fantasy. Broad shoulders, narrow hips, shaggy, dark hair still wet from his shower and curling slightly at the ends. Those intense eyes that seem to be smiling at me as he follows the lines of my palm with his calloused fingertips. He hadn’t really been on my radar until this year, when he started performing with Asher at a lot of his tour stops. They’re old friends, apparently.

“You didn’t tell me you were a rock star,” I murmur.

“You didn’t tell me you have a boyfriend,” he counters.

Kelley’s Review

6 Stars

Fall To You will take you on an emotional journey filled with mystery and suspense.  Lexi writes a sinfully sexy and steamy romance that leaves you wondering who is the best man for Hanna.

This book is written in such a clever fashion.  It is unlike anything I have ever read before.  I bonded with Hanna in Lost In Me.  It is not often that this happens for me and when it does I get extremely emotionally invested in the book series.  Hanna is a lot like me.  She has battled her weight her entire life and was very shy because of it.  She did not seek men out because he lacked confidence.  So when she wakes up in Lost In Me and finds herself skinny and engaged to the man of her dreams she can hardly believe it.  Turns out that Max had ulterior motives when he first started dating her which included the possibility of getting a much needed grant or access to her trust fund to save his business.  Or that is what we thought.  In Lost In Me you find out that Hanna finds some old text messages from Max’s ex-girlfriend that throw her into an extreme state of mental distress where she begins to starve herself because she has had enough of people looking down on her because of her weight.  How many of us have been here?  In the mean time she meets a smoking hot rockstar Nate Crane who loves her curves and is attracted to who she is here and now.  He makes her feel beautiful and special but in the long run he lets her know that their affair can be nothing more than what it is.  He has a son and does not want his son to feel less loved like he did when his father started a new family.  But in Fall To You we see a change in Nate Crane and he is actually considering breaking his cardinal rule.

Then there is Max.  Hanna leaves Nate.  She knows she wants a family and if he can’t give her what she wants she will have to find it somewhere else.  What she did not expect is that she would find it with Max.  Max shows Hanna how much he loves her and how sorry he is.  When she finds out a secret that he has been hiding, she is blown away.  Then tragedy strikes and she feels like the bottom has been ripped out from under her.  At that very end she once again has a decision to make.  But, this time it will not be an easy one.

The reason I gave this book a six start review is because I could not wait to tell everyone I know that they needed to read this series.  I asked Tracey my partner in crime here at Smut Book Junkies to read the book because I had to talk to someone about it.  It is that good.  Lexi is insanely masterful in her character development in this series.  Your heart goes out to Hanna, Max, and Nate.  Their love triangle has had me tied up in knots and still does.  I am counting down the days until All For This comes out.  This story will stick with you. I read this book several weeks ago and it feels like yesterday.   The Here and Now Series by Lexi Ryan will stick with you.  It is not something that is easily forgotten.  That is what lands it 6 stars.  I can’t say enough about how amazing this series is and how much it has touched my heart.  It will be my go to read for years to come.  Bravo Lexi!

I live in rural Indiana, where, when I’m not writing, I get to hang out with my husband and two kids–a six-year-old boy and a two-year-old hellion, er, girl. Not surprisingly, reading and writing remain my favorite activities, though both come in bits and pieces these days, not the big hunks of time I enjoyed before I had children. When I’m feeling virtuous, I like to go running (I use that word liberally. I’m really, really slow) or do yoga. New Adult Contemporary Romance

Amazon | Barnes and Noble

I’m a journalist—Adam Kincaid, BBC reporter, to be exact, so I’m not going to bury the lead. I’m about to see the woman I never got over.
I know that because I’ve been back in America for years now, and I still don’t date American girls. My dad would say I’ve come to my senses, sticking to my own British patrician kind, but that’s crap. Mum, the psychologist, would more wisely say it’s my unresolved issues around Nicki. My teenage years are long behind me, yet my guilt over her remains. So I’ve avoided all things Nicki, though the irony is she’s the one avoiding me.

Maybe if we see each other, we can both move on. Could she ever forgive me? Can you forgive yourself when you hurt someone you love?
But please, don’t answer yet. I’ve jumped ahead of the story, and as a reporter, I should give you more background to get to the root of it all.
So let me tell you my story. Then you can be the judge.
NOTE: While this is the third in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone book.

BESIDE YOUR HEART

Amazon | Barnes and Noble
“It’s an emotional story that will take the reader back to those feelings that made the late teen years such a powerful time.”
Late one night Nicki Johnson plays with emotional fire and Googles her high school love, only to find his name splashed across the British gossip columns. Back in his native England, Adam Kincaid is successful and dating a woman from an aristocratic family like his own. With a career in politics, Nicki’s no slouch, but she knows Adam is living a world away from her life.
Yet there was a time he was no farther than the next locker. Nicki will never forget their year together in high school—the year of her sister’s death, the year her mother checked out. Adam helped Nicki through suffocating grief, and she led him through a coming of age. Was it just high school, or was it something more?

Kristyn’s Review

bigstock_Five_stars_Mesh_13933472

Nikki is a 17 year old survivor of the accident that killed her sister. She walked away with severe damage that left physical scars and emotional scars. Her mother pretends nothing happened and ignores the subject of Lauren altogether. Her father had an affair and moved to Chicago after the divorce. She was isolated even among her friends. She kept to herself and just existed with no spark left in her eyes. But there was Adam.

Adam is a British student whose father moved them to Houston for a year for his job. He dates a beautiful but ditzy cheerleader and makes out with her in front of his locker. Which also happens to be right next to Nikki. They say hello and that is usually it, until one day they start talking about literature and occasionally her sister Lauren. They build their friendship while denying the growing attraction they feel for each other.

There is so much to love about this book. It captures the hormones and overpowering emotions that is falling in love while in high school. Adam and Nikki existed for each other. For their daily interactions. They were pulled to each other and when they finally got together it was so much more than they had ever felt before. I felt so much while reading this book. There was a bit of a cliff hanger ending but I wasn’t disappointed. There was so much story to tell about Nikki and Adam that it couldn’t have been told in one book.

The story is compelling and the characters are so full of life and the power of feeling things for the first time. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who remembers what the first time falling in love feels like.

Disclosure of the Heart (1)DISCLOSURE OF THE HEART

Amazon | Barnes and Noble

Sixteen years is a long time to wait for your true love to reappear, and, anyway, Nicki Johnson couldn’t wait for the impossible to happen. Hard life lessons have taught her that fairy tales are children’s stories, and fate is cruel. Burying her hopes, she’s spent the last sixteen years focused and driven toward her career, and it’s landed her with a job at the White House with a gem of a boyfriend. But when her high school love, Adam Kincaid, walks into the White House as a BBC reporter, Nicki’s world is thrown into turmoil as she relives their past. Adam has come back for her, but has he arrived too late?

Kristyn’s Review

bigstock_Five_stars_Mesh_13933472

Nikki and Adam are dating other people and working at the white house when they meet again. Adam took the job because he knew Nikki would be there.

Fifteen years has changed them in unquantifiable ways, but their feelings and their connection is still the same. They reconnect and talk which only solidifies their feelings for each other.

This book really highlighted the evolution of the characters. They grew and changed but their love hadn’t. I love the writing of Mary Whitney. Everything feels very realistic and it’s so easy to get into the story. Whitney’s writing is very compelling. This book was a wonderful sequel to Beside Your Heart.

Tracey’s Review

4 Stars

Barrett ‘Rett’ is a player, a one-night kind of guy. He’s sure that he is not the relationship sort, and has no interest in settling down. Finley King has spent the last couple of years of her life shutting everything out, preferring to keep her emotions tamped down. Her last experience with love was not a success, and she’s not even sure that she CAN feel anything anymore.

I love a book that surprises me. I went into ‘Rett’ knowing nothing about the story, and with absolutely no idea what to expect. The characters were well-written, and just exploded the stereotypes, surprising me, and, I think, themselves, in the process. At first glance, this seems like an ‘opposites attract’ sort of story. Rett and his brothers come from very humble beginnings and pretty much raised themselves. Finley is the daughter of Nicky King, rock superstar. She has suffered loss and tragedy, but has a loving family that is there to help her through it all. When you look at the two of them, there doesn’t seem to be much common ground. But Rett and Finley are, I think, more alike than they know. And when they meet, something just clicks, and they can’t help but start to fall.

I truly thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Besides Rett and Fin, the secondary characters really helped make the story real. I would not hesitate to recommend ‘Rett,’ and give it a solid 4.5 stars. I plan to read the rest of the books in the ‘Custom Culture’ series, as well, to find out more about how it all began, and look forward to more from Tess in the future.
