There’s something deliciously perverse about staring through the clear glass. All of my senses engage as I wait in line—the fragrance that fills the air as the fire crackles beneath the foil wrapped treats wafts under my nose, the beauty in each and every small package as they line the shelves with tiny dots and colored sprinkles mesmerizes me, the sound made as the silver sheet is peeled back to reveal the magnificence it holds captivates me, and the anticipation of the taste makes my mouth water. Ummm… just thinking of the first bite into the moist brown exterior with its bittersweet Belgian chocolate complimenting the flavor of the Madagascar bourbon vanilla that oozes from its inside has me trembling. The black and white cupcake—it’s simply perfection.

Amidst the skyscrapers in Los Angeles’ South Park neighborhood, Sprinkles is a gem tucked away for those of us who seek out a small piece of heaven. I don’t come here often, but when I do it’s for that one special treat. The menu describes it as, “Yin and Yang.” An ancient proverb that says, “Complementary opposites, such as light and dark, day and night, and masculine and feminine, seemingly may exist as contrary forces, but are actually interconnected.” Simply put, it says one gives rise to the other and it’s true— opposites attract. Without the vanilla inside, one could not possibly crave the chocolate outside—looking at the two parts united has me drooling.

“You know what they say about staring through the glass,” a deep husky voice says from behind me.

His words tingle my skin and my gaze snaps up. “Excuse me?” I stop short, in a daze, not even sure what he just said I was so lost in my thoughts.

He chuckles. “You know what they say about staring through the glass,” he repeats.

My eyes blink and come into focus on the upward tilt of his full lips. Then my eyes move to his smooth pale skin flecked with a light stubble, his nose seemingly sculpted even with a slight imperfection in its slope, large eyes with the most unusual gray color swirling from within, and chocolate brown colored hair framing his face in pieces—I’m not sure if he has just rolled out of bed or if product molds it just so. Either way, he is utterly beautiful.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Just be careful so you don’t fall in like Alice.” He smiles, displaying his bright white teeth.
“Again, I’m sorry but I have no idea what you’re talking about.” I notice his eyes sweep over me and my heart starts pounding.

“Through the Looking Glass,” he responds in a dangerously husky voice.

This time when he speaks I catch an accent, ever so slight but extremely sexy.

It reminds me of how Robert De Nero talks, just not as loud or fast. I continue to stare, unable to respond. I notice that his physique is long and lean. He’s dressed in worn jeans that fit him perfectly. His orange laced hiking boots scream I don’t conform. A pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses hang from the V of his gray sweater, which clings to his body perfectly. And an outdoor vest tops the outfit. It throws me off. It makes him look more like an Abercrombie model than a James Dean type. It’s a navy blue down and quilted one with a silver zipper. I don’t know why, but something about his outfit, about this man, captivates me.

“Number 98,” calls the girl from behind the counter.

He steps closer. His warm breath whispers across my neck. “Through the Looking Glass is the sequel to Alice in Wonderland. When Alice gets too close to the glass, she falls in and starts on a crazy journey,” he tells me as his arm waves in the air with a green ticket on display. Stepping closer, his gaze cuts from mine to the glass case as he hands his number to the clerk whose wearing a cute brown apron with the word Sprinkles scripted across it.

“Can I have a dozen of the black and white cupcakes?” he asks.

Suddenly alarmed, my eyes dart to the case as I watch the single remaining row of beautifully crafted cupcakes diminish until there are none left. My irritation flares as I glance at my number—97.

The beautiful stranger hands the clerk his credit card and waits to sign the slip.
“I was number 97, my number was before yours,” I say as he’s handed the bag that holds his treasure.

“Oh, I’m sorry. Here let me get the sales clerk’s attention so you don’t have to take another number,” he says.

I want to stomp my feet. I want to scream. I don’t want her attention. I don’t want another number. I want the cupcakes that he stole from me.

“Miss,” he calls draping his perfectly fit body over the case. She looks his way and with a charming grin he says, “Can you help this lovely lady? She missed her number being called.”

“Of course, I’m so sorry. How can I help you?” the girl asks averting her eyes from the man who looks like he should be on the cover of GQ magazine, over to me.

He smiles at me with a face that belongs on a billboard. “Don’t fall in.”

I swear he’s goading me. But then he tips his chin and a sexy, smoldering grin passes over his lips and I’m not so sure anymore. He turns to look at me one more time before he exits, and excitement flushes over my face. I nod a slight cursory acknowledgement, then he disappears and disappointment washes over me—he’s gone. Crap. The cupcakes are also gone. Double crap. And now I’m left wondering if he saw me staring at that flavor? Did he distract me on purpose so he could purchase them first? Urrr…I’m so angry right now I consider walking out, but when the clerk asks me what I’d like I settle for the Vanilla Milk Chocolate cakes—they are the mirror reflection of the black and whites, with vanilla cake and chocolate frosting, but they are not nearly as good.

Fun and romantic love story reminding us that true love can be found even when you are not looking.   I absolutely fell in love with Jagger and Aerie.  Aerie is so type A and Jagger is not.  I love the way that Kim introduces from the very beginning to the Yin and Yang cupcakes.  They are symbolic of the relationship that blooms between Jagger and Aerie.

The menu describes it as, “Yin and Yang.” An ancient proverb that says, “Complementary opposites, such as light and dark, day and night, and masculine and feminine, seemingly may exist as contrary forces, but are actually interconnected.”

Both Jagger and Aerie are interconnected as they are dealing with very similar emotional scars from past relationships.  Aerie has turned herself into the predictable and Jagger is taking chances and going after what he wants.  When Aerie gets a taste of what its like to break out of the mold she has been living in it is very liberating for her.  Jagger falls hard but Aerie guards her heart.  She has been burned before and has not let anyone in since.

When I first heard that Kim was writing Jagger and Aerie’s story I thought why.  I had just finished Connected and Torn and wanted to know what happens to Ben next.  I mean what a mess did that boy get himself into.  Kim is amazing in that she took two characters that meant nothing to me and made them into a beautiful love story.  This novella is written like a full length novel in that there is no rush at the end to get in all the details.  Kim does an excellent job with the epilogue and ending the story with a solid HEA.

So, If you are huge fan of Alice In Wonderland, you will love this book.  If you are not but love a heartwrenching and magical love story you will enjoy Dazed.

Well, except for the part where Zoey needs to steal an ancient gem from the Queen of Faery in order to prevent Louis Marini from killing Daniel.

Reunited with her whole crew, stealing the magical artifact should be relatively easy, but unknown to Zoey, Dev, and Daniel, there are dark forces gathering against them. As her search for the Blood Stone gets underway, Zoey makes a startling discovery that will change her life, and Dev and Daniel’s forever.

When her new enemy finally strikes at Zoey from the shadows, her newfound happiness is shattered, and to avenge the horrific attack, Dev prepares his mother’s kingdom for war. Recovering from the attempt on her life, Zoey and Daniel desperately search for the stone and in the process unmask the real monster behind the assault.

Stopping the real threat, and saving Daniel, will force Zoey to choose sides in an epic war between the Seelie and Unseelie Fae, even if it means betraying Dev and his people.

Dev nodded that we were ready to be announced and then we walked down a magnificent marble staircase. Twenty steps led us into a huge ballroom that had been set for the royal banquet.

I held on firmly to both their arms because the last thing I needed was to tumble down the stairs and break a limb. I looked out over the crowd and realized Dev had been right. Everyone was hoping for a big scene. They were whispering behind their hands and gawking. They moved their attention between the three of us and the woman at the end of the hall.

I glanced up and got my first glimpse of my mother-in-law.

Miria, Queen of Faery, sat upon her throne before me. There was a raised platform with three chairs. Miria sat on the largest of the three in between two slightly smaller thrones. All three were carved from oak and elaborate in their design. Declan sat in one to her right, a look of aloof superiority on his face. I’d been told the seat to her left was the one Dev used. There were several people standing around the queen, and I suspected they were counselors and high nobles. Padric stood closest to the queen. It was fitting as he was both the head of security for the royal family and the queen’s lover.

Miria, Queen of Faery, was gloriously lovely. I was surprised to find she had long strawberry-blonde hair. I guessed the twins got their dark good looks from their father. Miria was fair but by no means bland. Her face was delicately sculpted, with high cheek bones and a lush mouth. Her eyes marked her as the twins’ relative. They were emerald green and sparkled with the same intelligence Dev had.

“Dude,” Daniel said as we approached the throne. “That’s your mom?”

She didn’t look old enough to be his mom, but that was the way it was with the Fae. They reached their prime and just stopped aging. Miria looked to be about twenty-five. Dev was twenty-seven now and would look older than his mother or brother had he not been taking Daniel’s blood regularly. Daniel’s blood stopped the aging process in humans when taken on a regular basis. I’d begun noticing that for Dev, it seemed to actually reverse aging a little. The fine lines around his eyes he got when he laughed had disappeared.

Miria tried to maintain her cool composure but the closer we got the more her eyes ate up the sight of her son. I saw her eyes get glossy with unshed tears, and she reached out to Declan. He patted his mother’s hand and for a moment looked less like a brat prince.

“Good evening, Mother,” Dev said formally as we reached the throne. He bowed deeply.

I could see her son’s formal tone was not what the queen had been hoping for. “Devinshea, it is good to see you.”

Dev didn’t give her anything. He nodded but chose to introduce us rather than reply. “Mother, this is my goddess, Zoey. And this is my partner, Daniel Donovan. I assume Declan brought you up to speed on my living arrangements.”

That last was said coolly and with just a hint of challenge. He was just begging for his mother to say something disparaging about his lifestyle.

Miria had none of that. She smiled broadly and stood, causing Declan to quickly get his butt up as well. She wore a lovely white gown and a crown that sparkled in the candlelight. “Yes, of course. Declan and Padric both spoke highly of your wife and partner.”

Declan snorted at that. He didn’t like Danny. It probably had something to do with the fact that Daniel had kicked his ass the first time they met. “I certainly did not. I spoke poorly of him.”

Miria ignored her elder son. She stepped off the platform and walked to us. She stood before me. “It is so good to meet you, daughter,” she said with what seemed like complete sincerity. She kissed my cheek and gave me a long look. She laughed brightly. “Well, Devinshea, you certainly brought a beauty home. You are lovely, dear.”

“She is beautiful but not obedient,” Declan noted. “That is not the dress I told her to wear.”

“Hush,” she admonished. “The dress is stunning and suits her far more than anything in our style. Our styles would swallow her beautiful body. Declan, you were right about her breasts. They are delicious looking.”

The last bit was said with a slight breathless appreciation. I felt Danny tense beside me as he tried hard not to laugh at my sudden discomfort. My mother-in-law was looking me over with a sensual smile.

“I told you,” Declan said with a lecherous grin.

Dev leaned over and whispered in my ear. “Mother swings both ways. Sorry I didn’t mention that before.”

I gave him a “what the hell” look but Miria was moving on to Daniel.

“I should be upset with your presence, Mr. Donovan,” Miria said, looking him over. “Devinshea was supposed to keep you under control until I decided if you were dangerous or not.”

Dev started to argue but Daniel stepped up to the plate.

“I assure you, Your Highness, I am perfectly harmless,” he said with more charm than I’d heard him use on any woman but me. Dev was rubbing off on my vampire. Daniel was imitating his smooth tones.

Miria looked Daniel up and down, from his Ferragamo loafers to his perfectly cropped blond hair. “I doubt that, Mr. Donovan. I think you could do some serious damage.”

I saw Padric roll his eyes and mutter, “Not again.”

“How about I promise to be a good boy?” Daniel offered, his voice a dark seduction. I stopped myself from giggling because Danny was getting good at this.

“Please don’t.” Miria’s lips curled up. “Where would be the fun in that?”

“Mother!” Dev said sounding completely prudish for the first time in my relationship with him.

Declan snickered beside his brother.

Miria turned her attention back to her son. “Well, Devinshea, when you bring such lovely bodies home, what do you expect? They are exotic and look like they would be excellent bedmates. It would be rude not to admire them.”

Yes, she was definitely Declan’s mom.

“The Earth plane has changed my brother,” Declan complained. “It has turned him into a squeamish old woman. He refuses to even think about sharing Zoey with me. He pulled a gun on me just for cuddling with her.”

“I would have done worse.” Daniel looked at Declan and his fangs were long suddenly. “And I don’t need a gun.”

The rest of the room was startled and seemed to take a big step back, but Miria stood her ground. She went toe to toe with Daniel. She was definitely interested in those fangs.

She spoke to her son but her eyes were on Daniel. “Declan, you should know vampires are possessive creatures. It is impressive that Devinshea was able to forge a ménage with such a powerful creature and his companion. It makes a statement about his prowess. I am proud of you, son. You have done well. Tell me, Mr. Donovan, do you bite my son?”

“As often as possible,” Daniel replied with no hint of self-consciousness. “I find faery blood to be quite the treat.”

“Yes,” she returned with regret. “Unfortunately, it is why I was forced to close the mounds to your kind. Your kind likes our blood, and we tend to like your bite, Mr. Donovan. I found it to be a combustible mix.”

“Please call me Daniel,” my vampire offered smoothly.

“I will,” Miria promised. “And you and your companion may refer to me as Miria or mother if you like. I am your mother-in-law. Formally, of course, for Zoey, but I completely recognize your relationship and approve. I am pleased to welcome you. You will be treated as a member of this family, Daniel.”

“Good,” Dev said between clenched teeth. “Then you can stop hitting on him. And for the record, while I feed my partner, we are not lovers beyond the fact that we share Zoey.”

Miria looked startled. “Why ever not, son? He is attractive. I did not raise you to be so close minded. You should …what is that human term you told me about, Declan?”

“Hit that,” Declan supplied helpfully.

“Yes, Devinshea, you should hit that,” Miria said seriously.

Daniel finally lost it, and there were tears in his eyes as he laughed. He leaned over, whispering to Dev. “Shit, man, we should have come here earlier. This is awesome.”

Dev turned to me. “My goddess, what are the chances of the floor opening up and swallowing me whole, sending me to a blissful oblivion?”

“Not so good. Sorry.” Miria made me feel better about my dad.

“I think we should begin dinner now,” Padric said sourly, looking at Daniel with a shake of his head. He took Miria’s arm and started to lead her to the head table. Already servants were rushing to action.

Danny just couldn’t help it. “Dev, your mom’s a total cougar, man.”

I grinned as Dev blushed for the first time in…ever. “My mother is five hundred thirty-two years old. Cougar does not apply.”

“Sabertooth, then.” Daniel just had to rub it in.

Steal The Sun will take you on an epic and magical adventure that you will never want to end.  Lexi takes you on a mysterious journey through the land of the Seelie and Unseelie Sithein filled with action and suspense like you have never experienced.

I found myself dreading the last few pages because I knew the story would be over for a while and I would have to anxiously await Steal The Night.

Zoey and Dev are now officially married and are headed to Devs home to meet his mother the queen of Faery.  It’s Zoey and Devs honeymoon, a joyous time for everyone, so what could possibly go wrong?  Besides the fact that they are travelling with an entourage that includes: three wolves who love the taste of faery creatures, a witch, an angel, and a vampire.  And this IS Zoey we are talking about. As we have seen in the past trouble never follows Zoey :).

“Zoey.” Neil looked at me with big blue eyes from across the table. “They wouldn’t call them brownies if they didn’t taste good.”

“Did you learn nothing from the pixies?” I shot my werewolf a nasty look, remembering the day not too many weeks ago that I scrubbed his scalp raw getting rid of the fleas a certain ruby red pixie had left him as payment for trying to make her a little snack.

As they enter into Dev’s hometown Zoey is bombarded, as she knew she would be, with women throwing themselves at her husband.  He was always their green man and now that he had taken on Bris (the ancient god of fertility), the women cannot keep their hands off of him.  The fact that he had probably slept with most of them in the past might have had something to do with all of their excitement.  Zoey is a better woman than I that’s for sure.  I don’t think I could stand that many women throwing themselves at my man.

I felt really bad for Daniel at this point because the poor thing was being dragged through Faery in a coffin  The fae were not terribly fond of vampires.  I laughed hysterically through the beginning of their journey.

“How exactly is the vampire doing anything in his coffin when you were supposed to make certain he was wrapped in silver chains?”

Dev didn’t bother to look guilty. He stared his brother down. “Well, he is my partner. Those chains are uncomfortable. They burn his skin. He’s also good at revenge. I wrap him in chains and I assure you he spends the entire trip coming up with some way to get me back.”

“Are we there yet?” Daniel must have been screaming because even I heard him.

“No,” Dev screamed back, not caring that his whole town was watching the byplay. “Suck it up, Donovan. I’m drinking.”

“That beer better be worth it, Quinn!”

It does not take long though for someone to make an attempt to take Zoey’s life and from then no one is safe.  Everyone that was once thought of as a friend is now looked upon as an enemy.  Zoey also has a task to complete that is quite dangerous.  If she does not complete the task Danny could die.  Zoey must get to the blood stone.  This is where our journey takes a very suspenseful turn and where Zoey has to trust those that are not trusted by anyone else in order to complete her mission.  She is the key to stopping a war that could end the Seelie.  The problem is will Dev stand with her this time, or will he stand with his people?  Will he be blinded by rage because of what has been taken from him? Can he find his way back to the light of his life before its too late? Grab your copy of Steal The Sun and find out.  I can’t wait for Steal The Night.

Cassie Wilder is a student at the University of Chicago on spring break in Key West. She is a virgin and had decided to get rid of it while on vacation. Being a virgin is a burden to her. It causes people to whisper about her and guys to avoid her. Luckily for her one of her best friends is America’s Sweetheart and she has the means to put them up at a nice hotel and make their Spring Break amazing. On her second day in Key West Cassie catches the eye of handsome Ty McKenna. He seems to be interested but she doesn’t exactly have the experience to really be able to tell. He seems to be overly cautious and convinces her to call her roommate to check on her, and then to go back to her hotel early. She invites him to her room hoping to finally get rid of her virginity with a guy she is attracted to, but he says no, and leaves her alone. The next day a girl is found unconscious and raped on a beach and she finds herself swept up in the mystery of who is raping virginal blonde girls in Key West. Before You is a romance with a hefty dose of mystery and suspense. The relationship with the couple seems to be lacking. At one point Cassie thinks she is in love with Ty. I didn’t feel like that was authentic. The mystery part of the story was good. It leads you around following mysteries and trying to figure out both who the rapist is and who Ty McKenna is. The story wasn’t overly complicated and had a nice and consistent plot. The mystery evolved at a nice pace that felt natural and not rushed. The romance was just ok for me. I like Cassie and Ty together and felt their connection but the assertion that after two days she could be in love with him seems a little too cliché. I would recommend this book to enjoyers of mystery and romance who want to read something that isn’t too dark and serious. But it’s not for people who were looking to read a book with a lot of romance.

between us

 Synopsis

 I’m just a girl…

I’m a famous country star who’s spent her life cultivating a good girl persona to avoid bad press, but I’ve reached my limit. I’m going away for spring break with my two best friends from college, and we’ve vowed to spend the vacation seeking out fun in the sun—along with some hot, no-strings-attached sex. The only thing I needed was the perfect guy, and then I met Austin Murphy. He might be totally wrong for me, but the tattooed bad boy is hard to resist. When I’m in his arms, everything just feels right.

 And I’m just a guy…

I’m just a bartender who lives in Key West, stuck in an endless cycle of boredom. But then Mackenzie Forbes, America’s Sweetheart herself, comes up to me and looks at me with those bright green eyes…and everything changes. She acts like she’s just a normal girl and I’m just a normal guy, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. My past isn’t pretty, you know. I did what I had to do to survive, and she’d run if she learned the truth about my darkness. But with her, I’m finally realizing what it’s like to be alive. To laugh, live, and be happy.

All good things must come to an end…

Mackenzie Forbes is America’s Sweetheart. She is a musician who has gotten used to the attention of photographers who use and exploit her to make money. She has a history of making bad choices when it comes to men but she decided Key West was where she wanted to lose her virginity. Enter Austin. He is a tattooed “bad boy” type judging solely on his looks. He recognized Mackenzie as soon as she takes off her ridiculously large hat but he can’t seem to deny their mutual attraction. He takes her up on her proposition and they give in to their chemistry.

Between Us is a steamy read with all the right ingredients. The sex is hot and steamy. The pace and progression feels natural and not too rushed. Austin is everything you want in a male character. He is caring and thoughtful but bossy in the bedroom. Mackenzie is strong and doesn’t come across as overly emotional. Their relationship seems natural and not pushed to be too much too fast. I really enjoyed this novella and look forward to more from Jen McLaughlin.

Synopsis

CAN FUN IN THE SUN TURN INTO LASTING LOVE?

Spring break in Key West with my besties was supposed to be casual fun. But I never expected to meet James Hunt. Sex and frolic? Yes! A relationship? No. But his hot blue eyes and confident manner drew me in. And when he let me see the man behind the mask, I fell hard, foolishly believing there could be a future for us. Of course I never considered our relationship might be based on lies…or that his betrayal could rock my foundation and make me question everything I believed in…

OR WILL A LIFE BUILT ON LIES RUIN EVERYTHING?

The moment I saw Quinn I knew I had to have her. She hooked me with her cool eyes and don’t touch me attitude. I had it all, money, social status, and looks. I could get any girl I wanted…until her. When my friends challenged me with a bet to get her into bed by the end of the week, I couldn’t pass it up. But sex wasn’t supposed to turn into love. She wasn’t supposed to change me, push me, and make me want more for myself. She wasn’t supposed to wreck me in all ways. And now, if I can’t turn my lies into truth, I just might lose her forever…

4 Stars

Super sexy and fun.  A good girl meets bad boy romance.

Quinn is a really sweet girl with a good heart.  She works at rehab center for people battling alcoholism.  She has a dark past that has kept her from pursing any type of real relationship.  She also works with the elderly and has a kind and caring soul.  She is way too good for James and he knows it almost immediately.

James is rich beyond anyone’s wildest dreams.  He has everything that money can buy and is the king of throwing parties during spring break.  But money cannot by happiness.  He is lonely.  He knows that his friends would ditch him in a heartbeat if he was not wealthy.  His parents are even worse.  He was just a pawn in their quest to be the perfect family.  They are high society and having a child made them look like the american dream family.  One the cameras were not flashing they were giving James money and sending him away.  The only thing he had to do was not tarnish the family name.

Quinn brings out the best in James.  She gets underneath his rough exterior to find out what his true passion is.  He opens up to her like he never has to anyone before.  He finds himself feeling very possessive of her and he has never felt that way before about any girl.  Quinn quickly becomes than just another conquest.  He falls hard.  But when Quinn finds out the secrets he is hiding all bets are off.  If he can’t pull himself together there may not be a happily ever after.

Jennifer is amazingly talented when it comes to evoking emotion in her readers.  I had to hold back the tears.  I also had to turn up the air conditioning because this book is smoking hot.  James is all about giving Quinn multiple orgasms.  Let me just say he takes his job very seriously.  I just wish the ending was not so rushed.  I would have liked to have seen a little bit more of life after the beach.  If you like Jennifer Probst then you will really enjoy this novella.  Overall, this was a fun read that made me yearn for fun, sun, and the beach.

Just Shoot Me by Becky McGraw Review by Kristyn

Just Shoot Me (Cowboy Way, #1) a new series by Becky McGraw, author of the Texas Trouble Series
Synopsis

Tina Montgomery needs to find her Texas Tomcat. Her promotion and livelihood depend on it. That promotion could mean a new life for her, her sister and her niece. It’s a big risk however, because if she fails in her bid to head up a new menswear line at her company, she could lose everything. That’s why finding the perfect model to represent the line has become her sole focus. At the point of thinking she would …never find that man, one with both experience and attitude that shows in his face and eyes, she meets Dean Dixon. His gorgeous eyes tell a story she definitely wants to hear and the man has more attitude than any she’s ever met. Physically he’s perfect for the job. But that attitude she thought she wanted in her cowboy quickly becomes her biggest downfall when she tries to convince the sexy, but hard-hearted rancher to help her.

Dean Dixon is done with women. His cheating ex-wife has shown him just how untrustworthy women are. He has a ranch to run, and a son who might not be his to raise alone. That’s more than enough for any man to handle without dealing with his sister-in-law’s friend who is determined to convince him to model for her company. He has seen what that industry has done to his brother. Dean is a rancher, not a model, and he isn’t about to abandon his family or fall into the same trap his brother had. He stands his ground, until his sister-in-law tells him why Tina needs the promotion she’s wanting so badly, and asks for his help. Hope had bailed him and his family out when they needed her the year prior. How could he refuse to help her now?

Excerpt

Dean turned and laid down on the floor then reached back with his foot to find the first rung. He scrambled down the tree to the ground, and took a moment to adjust his jeans, before he started across the pine needle covered ground. Last night in the heat of the moment, he hadn’t felt the prickly pine needles sticking into the soles of his feet. He hadn’t felt much of anything, except the overwhelming urge to get Tina Montgomery up in that deer stand and fuck her brains out. This morning, he felt every step he took, just like he felt the bitterness of the regret inside his chest.

If they’d met when he was younger, before he became so jaded. Before Cindy. Maybe Dean’s life would be different. Tina Montgomery coming along now wasn’t the same. He wasn’t the same. Last night up in that deer stand he’d forgotten his problems for a few hours. She’d helped him forget. But when his feet hit the ground again this morning, they were all still there. Last night hadn’t solved a damn thing. Dean knew it had just been a temporary reprieve in his shitty life. A welcome one, but just a reprieve. Dean still didn’t have a damned clue how he was going to fix things. Or if he could.

Taking a deep breath, he huffed it out then picked his way through the trees toward the place they’d made love the first time last night. Dean looked around under the tree and found his hat behind some scrub, but didn’t see her skirt, his boots, or anything else. He mumbled under his breath and turned. A pair of ripped red panties occluded his view. They smelled just like Tina Montgomery, and he couldn’t help but take a deep breath.

“Looking for these?” Cord asked smugly.

Dean ripped them from his fingers, and shoved them into the pocket of his jeans. “Where’s her damned skirt?” he grumbled.

Cord laughed and pulled it from behind his back to hand it to him.

“My boots?” Dean growled.

“Hope has those in the truck.” Cord didn’t move to go get them though. His brother stood there with a wide grin on his face. “Figured you took her to the deer stand. I made enough damned noise to wake the dead. You should be saying thank you instead of being an ass. Seems like you should be in a better mood too considering.”

“Would you just go get my damned boots?”

“Hope has Tina’s boots too,” Cord said in a sing song voice, then his eyes laughed as he added, “I’ll go get them on one condition.”

“What’s that?” Dean asked clenching his fists, wanting nothing more at that moment than to plant one in his brother’s face.

“You let her climb down that ladder to get her panties and skirt.”

“Fuck you,” Dean growled and shoved him hard. Cord laughed as he stumbled back and put his hand on his chest.

“You know I’m just kidding.” Cord’s face turned serious. “I’m happy for you brother.”

“Nothing to be happy about. It’s done,” Dean said through his gritted teeth. “Now, go get my damned boots before I tell your wife you’re ogling Tina, and she kicks your ass!”

His brother’s laughter echoed through the woods, as he walked toward the clearing. A few minutes later, he returned with Dean’s shirt, and their boots.

Cord dug into the pocket of his jeans and handed Dean a set of keys. “Ya’ll take your time,” he said with a wink. “Lucky says to take his truck when you’re ready to come back. He’s riding with us.”

A lightning bolt of desire shot through him, but Dean caught it and crushed it. He had things to do. “We’ll be there in a few minutes,” he said as he turned to walk back to the tree stand.

Review
 4 Stars
Dean Dixon is a prickly hard to approach cowboy with ruggedly good looks. Tina Montgomery is a dynamite personality packed into a tiny womanly body. Their first meeting is a clash of tempers and temptation and they only heat up from there. Dean is overworked and stressed. He can’t seem to say the right thing or find the kind of money his ranch needs to keep running. He would rather be shot than model for the tiny temptress but financially he is between a rock and a hard place. So he reluctantly agrees to be her model in hopes that he could save his family home and protect it for his son.

Tina might be short but she packs a lot of feisty into her small frame. She has found herself the sole provider for her niece Laney, thanks to a cowboy crazy sister, and she finds herself dependent on her job and her idea for the perfect campaign for a line of men’s clothing. Every male model she looks at comes across too polished and not rugged enough. She has an idea in her mind and nothing short of perfect will do. Her friend Hope invites her down to her husbands ranch and she finds everything she imagined when she pictured her cowboy. He was perfect until he opened his mouth.

Their first meeting was a mixture of anger and desire and both are determined to avoid the other. Eventually they get past their anger and get to the smoking hot sex. They spend an evening together and use a roll of condoms but even that tension relief isn’t enough for Mr. Cranky Pants. He finds himself seeing her again and again and with every meeting his need for her takes over.

Becky McGraw has written a well rounded romance. This book is full of tension, chemistry, familial love and devotion. This book captures and keeps the readers attention as Tina and Dean tackle their growing relationship and family matters. They push each others buttons and enjoy pissing each other off. But their is just something about the other person that keeps them trying even when it would be so much easier to give up. This book shows the reader a great family love and it drives the story forward. Both characters are devoted to their family and trying to do whatever they can for their children. This book leaves you smiling and not hung over. This book is the type of romance that leaves you with a glow and a hope for your own life. And the fact that the male character is a sexy cowboy with a dirty mouth and a bit of a temper? Well who wouldn’t want to spend a little while in his world?

The last thing I remember is having drinks at Brady’s and trying to avoid eye-contact with my life-long crush—the gorgeous, unattainable Maximilian Hallowell. They tell me that was a year ago, but I have no memories of anything since then. What I do have is this ring on my finger that Max says he gave me, and this much-thinner body I’ve dreamed of most of my life. Aside from a case of retrograde amnesia, everything seems almost…perfect.

But the deeper I immerse myself into this new world of mine—planning a wedding to a man I don’t remember dating, attempting to run a business I don’t remember starting—the clearer it becomes that nothing is as it seems. Do I have the life I’ve always wanted or is it a facade propped up by secrets I don’t even know I have?

I need answers before I marry Max, and the only person who seems to have them is the angry, tatted, sexy-as-sin rocker Nate Crane. And Nate wants me for himself.

Once a college English professor, I now write full time. I live in rural Indiana, where, when I’m not writing, I get to hang out with my husband and two kids–a six-year-old boy and a two-year-old hellion, er, girl. Not surprisingly, reading and writing remain my favorite activities, though both come in bits and pieces these days, not the big hunks of time I enjoyed before I had children. When I’m feeling virtuous, I like to go running (I use that word liberally. I’m really, really slow) or do yoga. Don’t worry, I’m always careful to balance out such activities with a hearty serving of ice cream or a chocolate martini.

Four Years Later

We’re so excited that Monica Murphy’s FOUR YEARS LATER is finally here! FOUR YEARS LATER is a New Adult contemporary romance and is the final book in the Drew+Fable Series! Check out the excerpt below, then enter to win the fabulous prizes she has for you!

FOUR YEARS LATER Synopsis:

New Adult bestselling author Monica Murphy winds up her sensational series with this sexy story of two college kids with nothing in common but a bunch of baggage and a burning attraction.

Over. That about sums up everything in my life. Suspended from my college football team and forced to cut back my hours at The District bar because of my crappy grades, I can’t keep turning to my sister, Fable, and her pro-football playing husband, Drew, to bail me out. I just can’t seem to find my own way. Weed and sex are irresistible temptations—and it’s messed up that I secretly hand over money to our junkie mom. A tutor is the last thing I want right now—until I get a look at her.

Chelsea is not my type at all. She’s smart and totally shy. I’m pretty sure she’s even a virgin. But when she gives me the once over with those piercing blue eyes, I’m really over. But in a different way. I won’t deny her ass is killer, but it’s her brain and the way she seems to crave love—like no one’s ever given her any—that make me want her more than any girl I’ve ever met. But what would someone as seemingly together as her ever see in a screwed up guy like me?

EXCERPT

“Anything else?” I ask them minutes later as I drop the check on their table.

Owen slaps his hand against the piece of paper and drags it toward him. “I think that’s it.”

“Great.” I smile but it feels brittle. “I can be your cashier or you can pay at the register.”

“Hey, what else can you be for us, huh?” one of Owen’s friends ask, making the other one laugh.

My cheeks are hot again and my mouth is open. I’m gaping at them like a dying fish and thankfully Owen rushes to my defense. “Shut the hell up, Des.” He glances up at me, all traces of the buzzed foolish boy who first walked in here gone. “He’s drunk. He doesn’t know what he’s saying.”

“I know exactly what I’m saying,” drunken Des mumbles, clamping his lips shut when Owen shoots him a deathly stare.

“It’s all right,” I say, backing away from them slowly. “Take your time.”

I turn to flee from their table when I hear someone slide out of the booth, strong fingers curling around my upper arm and stopping me from leaving. He’s standing directly behind me, the warmth from his body seeping into mine and I go completely still. Willing myself not to react, not to say something stupid and embarrass myself.

Look what he’s doing to me just by touching my arm. This sort of thing doesn’t happen to me. I don’t care about boys. I’ve been kissed a measly three times in my life, once by Cody Curtis the tongue thruster and he definitely doesn’t count.

So twice. Twice I’ve been kissed and I’m a virgin. A freaking virgin. Owen Maguire has player written all over him. I’m nothing to him.

So why is he touching me? Talking to me in that husky low murmur of his that slides over me like slow, warm honey?

“…need to talk to you. About this tutoring thing,” he’s saying and I wrench myself out of his grip, irritated that I didn’t pay attention to what he said at first.

“Just meet me Monday afternoon as scheduled and we should be good to go.” I turn to face him, a fake smile plastered to my face and he stares at my lips for a long, breath stealing second before he finally lifts those too pretty green eyes up to meet mine.

My lips are tingling like he actually kissed them. God.

“I don’t even know your name,” he murmurs.

My Review

bigstock_Five_stars_Mesh_13933472

Oh Owen how I love you…Monica delivers a innocent yet deliciously sexy read.  I am a huge Drew and Fable fan and was intrigued to see what Monica was going to to with Owen.  Owen was such a typical teen dealing with a crap situation the best he knew how.  Smoking weed and getting into trouble was the way that Owen was dealing with his mother and her addiction.  All Owen ever wanted was his mothers love and so he enabled her addiction.  The stress of taking care of his mother and hiding it from Fable began to take its toll on his grades.  Bad grades equals no football.  Football is Owen’s future.  He loves it and is talented enough to go all the way.  So it looks like Owen is going to need a tutor.

Chelsea is bright and is also escaping her past.  She is working several jobs to put herself through school with one of them being a tutor.  When Chelsea is given the task to tutor Owen Maguire everything goes to hell and a hand basket.  Once he steps in the room she is at a loss for words.  She loses the skills to speak the English language and she is supposed to tutor him in it.  However, she is not the only one who is affected.  Owen isn’t blind and Chelsea is beautiful but untouchable.

He showed up on time to please me.  And guess what?  It does please me, more that it should.  I’m such and easy target.  “I fell asleep”.

“Clearly.”

I rub my forehead.  “I don’t usually do that”.

“Maybe you should more often.  I think you were sleeping pretty hard.”

Wariness fills me and I stiffen my spine.  “Why do you say that?”

“Well, you have crease marks on your cheek.”  He reaches out and traces them, his fingertips so light on my skin a shiver steals through me.

I can feel his warmth and smell his intoxicating scent like smoke and spice, fresh air and crisp apples.  He smells like fall.  Fall has always been my favorite season.

Monica takes a character that I really could care less about and makes me fall hard for him.  She is a masterful character developer.   She created a beautiful love story with Four Years Later that has stayed with me.  The love that Owen feels for Chelsea is amazingly beautiful, and the kind that will last a lifetime. Chelsea and Owen help each other face their demons.  They find that together they can conquer anything.  I was also excited to see that Fable and Owen’s mother gets whats coming to her.    Maybe if we get lucky Monica will write a Chelsea and Owen Forever Novella someday.  I don’t know if I will ever get enough of these characters.

If you loved Drew and Fable as much as I did then you will love Four Years Later.  Plus you get to see more of Autumn and she is so friggin cute!

A Summerville Novel #7

Fire and Icing Book 2

Too hot to handle…

Faith Miller has faith in two things—her surrogate firehouse family, and her own two hands—and she needs a man in her life like a fish needs a bicycle. Growing up watching her mom get used and discarded by one deadbeat boyfriend after another has left Faith jaded, and determined not to fall into the same trap. But when Mick Whitehouse moves back to Summerville, Faith’s happy, single life is turned upside down. The hunky carpenter is a far cry from the little boy she used to wrestle with on the playground in elementary school. Mick’s all grown up, tempting as sugar coated sin, and determined to seduce Faith into forgetting all her rules.

One kiss under the mistletoe and Mick Whitehouse knows that he wants Faith Miller. Bad. After years of lukewarm relationships with the wrong kind of girls, Mick is powerfully drawn to Summerville’s only female firefighter, and determined not to let her push him away. Beneath Faith’s tough exterior is a heart of gold, and the chemistry between them is four-alarm hot. But just as he finally convinces Summerville’s most confirmed bachelorette to take a chance on love, an old girlfriend waltzes into town and drops a bombshell in Mick’s lap.

As Faith and Mick come to terms with the shocking news, Faith must choose: let fear of repeating her mother’s mistakes send her running, or have faith in the man she’s come to love?

 Excerpt

“You,” Faith said with a disgusted shake of her head, her tone inferring that finding Mick starting across the street toward her was only slightly less disgusting than discovering she’d stepped in a steaming pile of dog doo. “What are you doing here?”

“I live above the bakery now.” Mick forced a smile, refusing to take Faith’s scowl at face value. She’d acted irritated with him at the Fireman’s Ball, too, but she’d also kissed him like his mouth contained the last gasp of air in a burning building.

Things weren’t always what they seemed with Faith, which was part of the reason he found her so damned interesting.

“Great,” she said with a sigh, swinging her backpack over one shoulder. “When did that happen?”

“Last week, right after the store opened.” Mick stepped onto the sidewalk beside her. “And not long after Jake and Naomi got engaged. A lot of things have changed while you’ve been gone.”

Faith snorted in a way that Mick found inexplicably sexy. “Duh. I knew that was going to happen. I knew before anyone. I have a phantom limb that tingles when people are getting ready to get hitched, and it was tingling big time for those two.”

Mick grinned. “A phantom limb?”

“Yes,” she said, standing up straighter, her posture making it clear she wasn’t in the mood to be teased, which of course only made Mick want to tease her more.

“So, where was this limb before it became a phantom, marriage-foretelling limb?” he asked, letting his eyes roam up and down Faith’s body, disturbed to realize that he found her sexier in orange pants and an oversized jacket than he’d found Nina in her skimpy dress. “Was it a third arm, or a third leg?”

“It was a vestigial tail,” she said with a straight face. “And I know you don’t want to come on to a girl who used to have a tail, so take a step back, Whitehouse.”

“I wouldn’t care if you still had a tail, Miller,” he said, ambling closer, until their frosty breath mingled between their faces. “I’d still want to take you out.”

Faith’s eyes narrowed. “Stop it,” she said in a softer voice. “We talked about this.”

“We did not,” Mick said, deliberately playing dumb. “I don’t remember any talk about your tail. If I had, I would have asked Maddie to knit you a tail warmer instead of that horrible vest she made me for Christmas.”

Faith’s lips quirked up at the edges. It was a flicker of a smile, but enough to give Mick hope.

“Come on,” he said. “Give me a chance. Let me take you and your tail out to dinner.”

“I never had a tail, and I certainly don’t have one now,” she said, then added after a beat, “As for the other…I appreciate the offer, but I’m not interested.”

“Liar,” Mick said, knowing he was right when Faith’s eyes widened and a spark flickered in their warm brown depths.

“I think you’re interested,” he continued. “And I think if I kissed you right now, you’d kiss me back the way you did at the ball.”

Hot for You takes you on a sexy road trip that you wish would never end. The chemistry between Mick and Faith is smokin hot. I love how strong Faith is and how she puts Mick in his place. He also becomes Micks hero in his time of need. What else would you expect from a sexy firewoman. Mick has to face the fact that he wants more out of his relationship with Faith. There is no way that she will become just another notch on his bedpost. But can he convince her that he is worth her risking her heart before it’s too late? I love the Fire and Ice series so far and am excited to see what Jessie has in store next.

If you like sexy and passionate romance where an alpha female firewoman can light her man’s fire, you will enjoy Hot For You.

Jessie Evans gave up a career as an international woman of mystery to write the sassy, Southern romances she always wanted to read.

She’s married to the man of her dreams, and together they’re raising a few adorable, mischievous children in a tree house in the boonies. She grew up in rural Arkansas, spending summers running wild, being chewed by chiggers, and now appreciates her home in a chigger-free part of the world even more.

When she’s not writing, Jessie enjoys playing her dulcimer (badly), sewing the worlds ugliest quilts to give to her friends, going for bike rides with her house full of boys, and wandering the woods, glass of wine and camera both in hand, on the lookout for Bigfoot.

A southern girl, born and bred, Jessie loves writing Southern romances with just the right amount of sizzle, and hopes you’ll enjoy her stories set in the fictional town of Summerville, Georgia.
