Collateral is book one in the Collateral Damage Duet by Natasha Knight. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I must say I really enjoyed this book.

Gabriela Marchese is the eighteen-year-old daughter of Gabriel Marchese, a calculating and ruthless mobster. Stuck in the crosshairs of her father’s dirty deeds and manipulation, Gabriela finds herself bound by a contract her father signed, to marry another ruthless mobster, Stefan Sabbioni.

Removed from her home and placed in the care of a stranger, Gabriela struggles to come to terms with her impending future. Stubborn to the core, Gabriela will not give Stefan the upper hand… but that doesn’t mean he won’t take it.

Gabriela is immature throughout this story, but keep in mind she is young and has been sheltered her whole entire life. Her stubbornness and defiance do make interaction with Stefan interesting though since he is a control freak.

Stefan… holy hotness!! He is a complete dominant at the core. He wants control so bad and is used to having it in all things. Let’s not forget his perfect body and a hot chest tattoo…swoon!

The story is well crafted. The flow in which the story unfolds is pleasantly surprising as the author took time to build the world in which this story takes place and the where the characters reside. This story is the definition of a slow burn romance. I liked that she took two characters, who were complete strangers and took her time to show the development of their relationship as the story unfolds. There are definitely still a lot of trust issues to work out between these two, but I feel when the time is right, the pages are going to explode with all the pent-up chemistry these two are giving off!

I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store for the second part of this story.

“Mr. Gaines,” I say, pasting on my best customer smile when he lifts his gaze to mine.

His dark brown eyes flash with an unfamiliar gleam and my breath catches in the back of my throat. “Back so soon, I see.”

“You know I can’t resist you, Miss Harrison.” His smile is slow. Wolfish, if that’s really

He glances about, making sure no one is around, I’d assume. And lucky for him, there’s no one in the store currently. It’s the middle of the week, early afternoon. We normally don’t get too many customers at this time.

We are the only two people in here. Even Marlo has disappeared.

“Perhaps you can show me some of your newer items,” he suggests.

“I can do that.” All new arrivals are at the front of the store, so we’re in the right spot. I lead him to a table showcasing our latest bra and panty design. “Celestial is the theme for spring into summer.”

I point to the bras made of thin, sheer netting and pink silk, tiny pale pink stars stitched in a scattered pattern across the tulle fabric. They leave nothing to the imagination, and the panties are the same.

“They hide nothing.” He holds up a pair of brief-cut panties, turning them this way and that. Every time he holds underwear in those big hands of his, I melt a little inside. I don’t know why he affects me like this.

“You’re right. They don’t,” I agree, grabbing a thong and flipping it over to the thin

string of lace that makes up the backside. “But they’re terribly sweet.”

“Sweet?”

I glance up to find him watching me. “Sweet yet sexy,” I counter, my cheeks going hot

from the way he’s studying me so carefully.

“You like the celestial theme?”

I nod. Press my lips together so I don’t say something I regret. Like, I love this theme, or Do you want me to model the panties for you?

Yeah. That’s a bad idea.

He may be a bit creeper/ stalkerish, but underneath the surface is a clueless man who just needs to bring down the walls that hold the real Jarod prisoner.

I going to be absolutely honest, at first I absolutely hated Jarod. He creeped me out in many ways until he started letting his guard down. Then once he did it was obvious he’s a clueless man that doesn’t deal well with his emotions. What kept me invested in the book was Sara and her girlfriend posse. Their dating advice and texting codes reminded me of how wonderful girlfriends are in the scary world of dating. They are the sound boards, protectors, instigators, cheerleaders, drinking buddies, and therapist all wrapped up in margarita’s and chocolate at the perfect moment.

In the end I fell for Jordan and realized he was just a guy who needed love.

I can’t wait for Jarod’s  baby sister Candice to get her story in the upcoming book Holidate. Holidate by Monica Murphy will release on October 15, 2019.

I decide to bring up Ollie, preferring to deal with that than the topic of my sister.

“Did you hear that Oliver Tanner is back in town?”

She squints. “Why does that name sound familiar?”

“Josey Tanner’s son,” I say, unamused by her attitude.

Paige wrinkles her nose. “Little Ollie AWOL? Showing his face back here? That idiot?”

I hate when she refers to him as that. I hold back a frustrated groan. I don’t need more reminders of how he left me here—embarrassed and heartbroken.

It’s not like they were friends or anything, I think sarcastically. Then again, she’s always the first person to remind me that he broke my heart—twice.

“Yeah, that one,” I say dryly, regretting the subject. “He’s staying at the old Tanner place while he decides what to do with his life.”

“He’s going to f*** up my hydrangeas, isn’t he?” Paige says.

“So not the point,” I say.

“Is he as hot as I remember him?” she asks.

I smirk. Oliver is good looking. He has tousled brown hair, which is thick and lustrous. His eyes are a mesmerizingly deep brown, and flecks of amber light dance throughout them. Like fireflies. His face is strong and well defined. His features look like they were molded from granite. He has thick eyebrows, which slopes downward in a severe expression.

My stomach does a few flips as I remember his playful smile. My body shivers, remembering the tingles that his strong hands created when they touched me. They were rough but warm. And when those beefy arms wrapped around my body, it felt perfect.

His body was toned and inviting as he hugged me. Everything about him was comforting. His voice was deep and rich. We saw each other a couple of days ago, but I’m still thinking about him.
