Excerpt:

“Anyway, where have you been?” Violet asked.

I frowned. “Here? Where I am always.”

“You say that, yet you haven’t texted. No call. No note,” Sienna said, perfecting her perfect British accent as she pretended that she was Molly Weasley from the Harry Potter series.

“I’m fine. Really. Just busy working. And after the wedding, I figured everyone would be busy with cleanup and honeymooning and everything that brides are supposed to do on their wedding night.” I looked at Harmony, and she blushed even harder.

Apparently, she’d had a very nice wedding night.

“Well, considering you ran out of the reception, I wanted to make sure you were okay.”

I looked at Violet, noting the concern in her eyes.

“I didn’t run. I said goodbye.”

“And then you ran like there was a demon on your tail,” Sienna said. “We saw. Are you okay?”

“I didn’t see,” Harmony said quickly. “I was a little preoccupied. And I’m sorry about that. But what happened? Are you okay?”

We settled on the couches, and I set my hands in my lap.

I thought I’d hid things well. But from the way they looked at me now, I knew I hadn’t been entirely successful.

I’d never been very good at hiding.

The bruises on my soul were evidence of that.

“It’s fine.”

“What’s fine?” Violet asked, her voice stern.

“Beckham kissed me.” I hadn’t actually meant to say that. And as their eyes widened, and they leaned forward, I knew I was in for it.

Well…crap.

That secret was supposed to go with me to the grave. The kiss hadn’t meant anything. It couldn’t.

“He did? Did you not want it?” Sienna asked, frowning. “Because I’ll kick his ass for you, or I’ll have Aiden do it if that’s the case. He may be big and bearded and a little broody—although he’s not really bearded right now since he shaved for the wedding—but anyway, I will totally kick his ass if I need to. Or have it kicked.”

I shook my head quickly as Sienna continued to ramble.

“I’m fine. Really. He didn’t hurt me. Didn’t do anything wrong. But it can never happen again. It can’t. Totally not going there again.”

I slammed my mouth shut as the girls looked at me expectantly...

Read an excerpt from BREAKING WITHOUT YOU:

My head was fuzzy, and it wasn’t just because of the liquor in my system. No, it was because of the man in front of me, the one who currently had his lips pressed to mine. This was such a mistake. This was beyond a mistake. I should have found a way to get into my own ride share and gone home on my own.

But when Beckham asked me on the way back to the pool room if I wanted to get into Cameron’s car or go home alone, I had said that, of course, I wanted to go with Cameron.

Yes, I was drunk, and I was making poor decisions. But, apparently, Beckham thought he was a matchmaker. And he hadn’t wanted me to be forced into a situation I wasn’t comfortable with.

So, yes, while he was a nice man, I was still going to beat him up. Just like I was going to hurt Cameron.

But all thoughts of that fled my mind when Cameron’s hand slid through my hair to cup the back of my head and pull me closer to him. I wrapped my arms around his waist, pressing my body against his as I kissed him even harder. I had forgotten what his kisses felt like. I had forgotten what he felt like. Yes, he was larger than he had been even seven years ago, more muscular, a little sharper-edged. But he still felt like Cameron.

My Cameron.

Yes, I was drunk, but I wasn’t drunk enough to actually think that he was mine.

Yet I couldn’t stop kissing him.

I just wanted to feel. I just wanted to be. I didn’t want to think about Allison, I didn’t want to think about work, I didn’t want to think about my ex-husband and his new wife, I didn’t want to think about the fact that I still had to worry about the rest of Allison’s stuff.

I didn’t want to think about what life would be like without her.

So, I just kissed Cameron. I knew it was selfish, knew this was all a mistake.

But I didn’t stop.

He was the one that pulled away first. And then he leaned his forehead against mine and let out a ragged breath.

“What are we doing?” he asked, his voice rough.

“I don’t know, but I want to keep doing it.”

He pulled back, his brows lowered as he frowned.

“If we do this, it’s going to change everything. We’re not kids anymore.”

“It meant something when we were kids too, though. And I just want to feel. I know it’s all complicated, and I know that this is wrong and stupid. But I have just enough liquor in me to make me brave enough to say it, though not enough where I’ll be taking advantage of you, or you’ll be taking advantage of me.”

He studied my face. “I would say that that’s just the right amount of liquor, the right amount of drunk. But I can’t take advantage of you.”

I moved closer, impossibly close, so we were pressed against one another and I could feel the hard ridge of him on my thigh. “Personal advantage here. It’s just you and me. And you’re helping me feel. I miss feeling. Can you do that? We can deal with the tomorrows tomorrow. We can deal with everything that’s going to hurt. But I just miss people. I miss being held. I just miss it all.”

I miss you.

EXCERPT:

A couple of hours later, I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

I knew it was her before I heard her voice.

Violet was here. And so were the others.

I hadn’t known that they came to this bar. I hadn’t seen them since I came back to town, but here they were, in my place.

“I got this,” I said to Beckham as I went over to where Violet, Sienna, and Harmony were sitting.

“Hey.” I stuffed my hands into my pockets, wondering if I could be more of an idiot. Probably.

“Hi,” Sienna said, kind of smiling. The expression didn’t really reach her eyes, but I didn’t blame her. Everything was still so raw and emotional for them. Violet’s little sister felt things strongly. She always had, even when we were younger. I didn’t know how she felt about Allison.I didn’t know how any of them were feeling. Hell, I didn’t know how I was feeling about Allison.

But I was glad that they were here, even if it confused me.

“It’s good to see you, Cameron,” Harmony said softly. She grinned, but like Sienna, it didn’t reach her eyes. Damn it. I wished I could help these three, but I was already out of my depth with so many other things, this would just make it worse for everyone.

I looked over at Violet, clearing my throat. “Can I get you ladies something to drink? To eat?”

“We’re here to make sure that the Connolly brothers know that we’re supporting the bar,”Sienna said when Violet didn’t reply.

I turned to Violet’s sister. “Really?”

“Of course. We’ve come in on and off over the years, but it’s been more off since we’ve been so busy with our lives. But that’s going to change. We need a new place to actually sit and drink that’s not our house with a bottle of wine. Because while that’s good, sometimes, you just need to get out. So you’re stuck with us. And we need booze. We need lots of fucking booze.”

Her eyes filled, and Harmony reached out and grabbed her friend’s hand. I cleared my throat and nodded.

“So, what are we having?”

“Beer and shots,” Violet said.

My brows rose. “Really?”

“Do you think we can’t handle it?”

I met Violet’s gaze and shook my head. “I think you can handle just about anything, Violet.” I regretted the words as soon as they left my lips. “I know what you guys like. I’ll be right back.”

Then I walked away, wondering if I really knew anything at all.

Because, right now, it felt like I was nothing.
