About WONDER WITH ME:

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Proby comes a new story in her With Me In Seattle series…

Reed Taylor doesn’t pay much attention to the holidays—until he receives a surprise present. Four-year-old Piper is the daughter he never knew about, and with the death of her mother, is also now the roommate he never expected. He’s determined to make their first Christmas together one she’ll never forget.

Noel Thompson has gotten her share of strange requests in her career as an interior designer. The call to design a beautiful home for Christmas is more like a dream come true. And that was before she met her new employer—sexy and mysterious, he’s everything she ever hoped Santa would bring her.

As Noel showers his home with holiday spirit, Reed showers Piper with love. And the busy life he’s created for himself no longer seems nearly as important as the one Noel is helping him build with his daughter. But if he can’t convince his decorator to stay, this could be the only year he feels the true wonder of the season.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

Excerpt:

“Who decorated your home?” Noel asks in the kitchen. She’s using a camera to take photos of the rooms, and looks at me over the lens.

“I bought it like this,” I say and smile. “Furniture and all. So I’d have to ask the real estate agent. Why do you ask?”

She purses her lips and shakes her head. “It just doesn’t feel like you. And I know that sounds odd, considering I just met you, but it’s quite cold. There’s no color in here.”

“I spilled juice on the couch,” Piper admits. “And my mom always used to say that white furniture isn’t good with kids around.”

“She probably had a point,” Noel says with a wink. “The layout is brilliant, showing off the view.” She points to the accordion windows that open to the outdoor living space, and the view of the water beyond. “But the furniture is white, the rugs are white. Everything is white.”

“It’s clean,” I offer.

“It’s cold.” She wanders over to the staircase. “Will I be working upstairs?”

“Everywhere,” I confirm. I want Piper to have the best Christmas of her young life. After everything she’s been through this year, she deserves it. My daughter takes two of my fingers in her hand as we climb the stairs behind Noel and my heart catches. It still takes my breath away when she reaches for me, climbs in my lap or kisses my cheek. Piper is an affectionate little girl, which is something I’ve had to get used to, but I wouldn’t have her any other way.

“I want to show you my room,” Piper announces, pushing her way to the front and leading Noel down the hall.

Her room is across from mine, so I can hear her if she needs me. I’d originally put her down the hall, but that first night here in the house she had a horrible dream, and I couldn’t get to her fast enough.

I moved her things here, across from my room, the next morning.

“Oh my goodness,” Noel says from the threshold. “Piper, this is beautiful.”

“I got to pick it out myself,” Piper says proudly.

My daughter’s room looks like a princess threw up all over it. Pink upon pink upon pink flows everywhere, from her bedding, to the carpet, to the wall color. Her bed is a full-size canopy, with flowy curtains hanging down. I had a mural of happy flowers and butterflies painted on one wall.

“Finally, a room that a girl can get comfortable in,” Noel says, then sends me an apologetic smile. “Sorry. I don’t mean that to sound as bad as it does, it’s just this room is absolutely perfect for a little girl.”

“No offense taken,” I say as I lean my shoulder on the doorjamb and watch as Piper shows off her books and her dolls.

Blurb:
Dear Santa,

I do not want Keller James for Christmas.

I will not fall for him, no matter how charming or irresistible or famous he is. I will not be swayed by his skills in the kitchen or by his British accent. I’m going to win the Great Gingerbread Bake Off and no one is going to stand in my way. Not even Keller.

All kisses are off. I mean all bets. All bets are off. And his clothes, those are off too.

Grr, never mind. I’ll figure this out myself.

XOXO,
Ginger Winter

Excerpt:
“How would that even work, Keller? Because I like you. I like you more than I should. And maybe you’re just playing with me. Maybe you just really like kittens. Maybe I’m simply an adorable diversion while you’re in town filming this contest. Maybe you’re not Reindeer Falls material.”

The thought of him not being Reindeer Falls material nearly breaks my heart and I haven’t even fully given it to him yet.

“What exactly does that mean, Ginger?”

“It means you’re leaving soon.” I say it softly.

We’re still standing close together, and I realize he has one hand on my back, caressing me as if encouraging me to get it all out.

“It means you might find Reindeer Falls really charming in December and be bored silly with it by January. Or it could mean that you’re just a jerk who travels from town to town seducing women for their best recipes and then leaving them behind brokenhearted. Also, you’re British. Are you even allowed to stay? What if the Queen wants you back? You probably make excellent biscuits. The Food Network gave you a television show with the word ‘biscuits’ in the title, which surely means you’re good at making them.”

There. I think that was the gist of my concerns. Keller nods his head slowly, seemingly taking all of that into consideration.

“Well. I suppose any of those things could happen,” he agrees, which is the best sort of comfort, isn’t it? No one wants to hear that their fears are too crazy to be validated. “But what if they don’t?” he suggests, dipping his head to mine again.

Blurb:
All I want for the holidays is the willpower to resist my brother’s sexy, charming, easy-on-the-eyes new business partner.

Instead, I’m stuck planning all the holiday parties with the one guy who makes me want to break my dating diet.

Who thought that was a good idea?

Oh, me. Yep, brilliant, strategic me who raised her hand and said yes I’d love to hang mistletoe with that hot former sports star. (Note to self: Mistletoe leads to toe-curling, knee-weakening kisses.)

And I’d love to get snowed in with the one guy I shouldn’t fall for. (Addendum to the note to self: You know exactly where eight inches of snow leads to. Ahem, eight inches.)

As long as I can make it through the holidays I’ll be on my merry way, fa la la la la. But the holidays have a surprise for me.

Blurb:
Dear Santa,

Please bring me a new boss for Christmas. Mine is the worst. The worst, hidden in a six foot tall package of male perfection. It’d be easier if he looked like an old Scrooge, wouldn’t it?

Nick Saint-Croix doesn’t look like an old scrooge. He’s hot as-

Um, never mind. Just bring me a new boss. Please.

Sincerely,
Holly Winter

Excerpt:
“What on earth are you doing?”

I’ve got an assortment of cardboard pieces, tape, glue, markers, pictures cut from magazines along with a pile of individually wrapped chocolates spread across the table. “Remaking my Advent calendar because Nick is stealing an entire week of Christmas from me.”

“You get that Christmas is just the one day, right?” Noel asks.

“I’m gonna tell Mom you said that. Someone’s getting coal in her stocking this year,” I tease while tossing an empty candy wrapper at her head.

“Anyway,” Noel says slowly, staring at my calendar as if I’m unhinged. “Are you coming down with the flu? Running a fever?” Noel is the oldest. She’s not real impressed with baking or homemade craft projects.

“I wish, then I wouldn’t have to go on this trip with Nick,” I grumble as Noel continues to stare at the mess on the table while Ginger has a conversation with herself about the temperature of butter. “It’s a custom Advent calendar,” I explain. “For every day in December that I have to see Nick I get a treat.”

“Uh-huh,” Noel murmurs, her face unimpressed.

“As you can see” – I gesture toward my hodgepodge of a calendar – “doors nine through thirteen don’t exist because I was supposed to have a glorious Nick-free week, but now that I’m stuck going to Germany with him I’ve got to add those dates back to the calendar.” This Nick reward system is really nice. I’d consider expanding it to the rest of the year but I don’t think eating a chocolate for every day he annoys me would be good for my waistline.

“I think you should just sleep with him and get it over with,” Ginger announces from her place at the kitchen counter. I turn red and Noel smirks.

“You’re my new favorite sister,” Noel tells Ginger grinning from ear to ear.

“Hey!” I hate it when they gang up on me, which they always do. I’m the middle sister, it comes with the territory.

“Let’s fill doors nine through thirteen with condoms,” Noel suggests.

“Yeah! Get a room with your hot boss already.”

“It’s not like that!” I protest. “It’s strictly professional. I don’t like him. he doesn’t like me. There’s no liking!”

Excerpt:

He held her gaze for a long beat before taking the bag and unzipping it, finding the dishes she’d put together for him. “Not tacos,” he said in surprise.

“Making tacos is my job,” she said. “This was for something else.”

“And what’s that?”

“An apology for being … grumpy last night.”

“You weren’t.”

She gave him a get real look and he smiled. “Okay, maybe a little. But it was understandable. You’d just gotten an unfortunate and unfair surprise.” He gently tilted her face up to his. “You doing okay this morning?”

“Yes,” she said. “Of course.”

“Of course,” he repeated and shook his head. “Smart, tough, and resilient,” he murmured, his gaze on her face.

Now it was her turn to smile. “Some might say stubborn, impulsive, and doesn’t know when to quit.”

“Yeah,” he said. “But I find those things very attractive.”

Honestly, she didn’t know how to take half the things he said. They made her feel both terrified and exhilarated at the same time. “You’re a strange man.”

“So I’ve been told.” He looked over the food. “You poison any of it?”

“No, and only because I’d never waste food.” But to prove it, she grabbed the fork she’d packed and took a bite of her eggs. “Mmm,” she moaned before she could stop herself, but hey, she’d worked out and been on the move ever since, and she was starving. Plus, she made damn good eggs if she said so herself.

Again their eyes met, and that now familiar spark went right through her. She wanted him. Quite badly, if going off her racing pulse meant anything. He was so … what, exactly? Steady? Tough? Intense and yet somehow easy-going, not to mention also extremely easy on the eyes?

“You didn’t have to cook something special for me,” he said, sounding touched.

“You helped me last night. I repay my debts.”

“I didn’t do it so you’d feel indebted to me,” he said and cocked his head as he studied her for a beat. “Someday you’re going to have to tell me about the apparent assholes who’ve been in your life to make you so distrusting of me.”

“Oh, don’t flatter yourself. It’s not just you. I don’t trust anyone. And it wasn’t just me paying back a debt,” she admitted. “I wanted to cook for you.” And because that made his smile warm, which in turn made something inside her warm as well, she shrugged and backed up a few steps, needing breathing room. “I also wanted to thank you for your help,” she said, feeling annoyingly awkward as he shoved stacks of plans to one side of the table and started pulling everything else out of her bag with a deep male hum of pleasure when he caught sight of the pancakes.

“Are those blueberry?” he asked very seriously.

She nodded.

“Fair warning, if they’re as good as the eggs, I really am going to drop to my knees and ask you to marry me.”

That startled a laugh out of her. “Fair warning, if you drop to your knees, I’m going to use my considerable kickboxing skills on you.”

Tracey’s Review

I probably say this with each subsequent Jill Shalvis book that I read, but I’m going to say it again. This one is absolutely my favorite of the series. And it is, so far. 😍 WRAPPED UP IN YOU was just such an enjoyable read, filled with characters and situations that had me smiling a LOT, and laughing out loud more than once. Figure in the camaraderie, the affection between family, and friends that feel like family, and two main characters that are perfect for each other, and I was absolutely in romance heaven.

Kel and Ivy had me smiling from their first fiery meeting, and, even though they might not have known it, it was clear that there was no turning back for either one of them. Sure, each of them put on an ‘I’m just fine by myself, and I don’t need anyone’ front, but, come on, it’s Jill Shalvis, and it’s Heartbreaker Bay. Nobody escapes the magic of that danged Cow Hollow fountain. These two were goners before they even realized it.

I’ve found that the books in this series always have a little bit of everything. There’s emotion, attraction, angst, and a touch of suspense, and WRAPPED UP IN YOU has its share of each. Rather than end up in a weird mishmash, each piece fits together perfectly, making for one heck of a satisfying read. This book is not only another great addition to the Heartbreaker Bay collection, but to my growing list of holiday reads. The epilogue alone is a gift that will stay with me, and the perfect ending to this heartwarming read. If you’re looking for a feel-good read with a storyline that will reel you in, characters that will steal your heart, and smiles and sexiness galore, this is the book for you. Read it (and the rest of the series!) and enjoy. ❤️

Cowboy Caleb Dalton has loved single mom Ellie Bell, and her little daughter,
Amelia, for years. But since Ellie is his best friend’s widow, Caleb’s head
knows Ellie will always be strictly off-limits. If only his heart got

Excerpt
“But you are… You’re going to run a Christmas tree farm?”
“At least temporarily. Everything’s ready to go now, which means
finishing out the year, or the next few years, is guaranteed money in the bank
to begin other ventures. There’s contracts already made with outfits around the
country, truckers on hand to drive the things to their destinations. And he
owns that small lot down on the main street of town. So, I’m all set not only
to sell this year’s crop around the country, but also sell it here.”
“But you don’t… You don’t actually want to…be a Christmas tree farmer?”
“My ultimate goal is cattle,” he said.
She’d had no idea. None at all. Not that he wanted his own ranch, not
that he’d been unhappy at the school. Was he unhappy at the school? Was he
leaving?
“What does this mean for your position at the school?”
“I will be leaving. Which I will be talking to Gabe about later tonight.”
“But…”
“With West Caldwell coming into town, there’s no need for me to hang
around. He’s going to be working on the ranch.”
“Your half brother that you’ve never met. That’s putting a lot of stock
in a man you don’t even know.”
“Gabe figures we owe him. And, since Gabe is awash in guilt over the
whole half sibling thing, I figure that works in my favor.”
As much as Ellie loved Hank Dalton, the patriarch of the Dalton clan, it
was becoming more and more clear that he was problematic. A couple of years ago
it had been discovered that he had a daughter that none of them had known
about. McKenna Tate. She’d come into town after discovering the identity of her
family, and after some adjusting, the Dalton family had welcomed her into the
full. But on the heels of that revelation had come another one.
There were three more children. All adults now.
Hank had never known about them. But Tammy had.
It had changed the relationship, that reveal.
But Hank was awash enough in the guilt from the actions in his past, that
the two of them were trying to work through it to an extent. And Ellie really
hoped that they did. For some selfish reasons, if she was honest. Because she
loved them, and they were the closest thing to a family for her, and she didn’t
want to lose them.
“But… Don’t you want to wait and see if it’s going to work out?”
“No,” Caleb said. “I don’t want to work at the school forever. This is
what I want.”
That made her…angry and she couldn’t figure out exactly why. He deserved
to have dreams; of course he did. But she’d just…assumed he was happy with the
way things were. She’d somehow meshed his dreams together with hers.
Had decided that what she was doing with his family ranch, with the
school, was what he wanted, too.
But if she didn’t feel great about him fighting fires anymore, maybe he
didn’t, either. And she’d never asked. She’d only thought about it in terms of
her own comfort. That wasn’t right at all.
Still, the idea of him having his own endeavors, his own life farther
away from her and not right all around her while they worked…
She needed him. She really had. She still did.
She didn’t like this…this change. But she should be happy for him, and it
made her feel… She felt bad. And she didn’t like feeling bad about something
that was good for her friend.
“I’d… Well, congratulations,” she said. Even though she didn’t feel like
congratulating him at all. She felt like having a tantrum.
She really didn’t know why.
“Thank you,” he said, his mouth quirking up into a half smile that made
it very clear he was well aware she wasn’t having the best reaction to his
news.
“I’ll miss seeing you.” The words more plaintive than she intended.
“I’m not moving away,” he said.
“Yeah, but I see you all the time,” she protested.
“You will still see me all the time.”
“But you won’t be dropping Amelia off when I want you to.”
“Probably not.”
Her stomach twisted, but that wasn’t what was upsetting her. She knew it
wasn’t.
And then it hit her, as strongly as that melancholy had when she’d
realized it was nearly the Christmas season.
This phase of life was over.
The one where he was here to carry her. Where she had a crutch to get her
through what life looked like without Clint. Being a single mother.
It was changing.
It had begun to change months ago, when the idea for the school had come
about. She had gone back to work.
But she’d been a fledgling, and he’d been there to help her.
Maybe she needed to make some changes, too.
Maybe, instead of dreading Christmas, she needed to get started on her
wish list.
