Michel’s Review

Masquerade is the second prequel novella in the Swept Away series.  This novella is from Jakob Bradley’s POV.  In the previous books and novella in this series, most of the ongoing story is from Bianca’s POV or perceptions.  This novella sheds some light on Jakob’s motivations and how he got from point A to point B.

Jakob has the need to uncover the secrecy of who and what Bianca London is.  He needs to know her ties to his family and the family’s corporation.  He is convinced that Bianca’s family is tied to his mother’s death.  He’s convinced that Bianca is out to destroy the corporation.  His half brother David is under the same assumption. The two come up with a plan to extract all of the information that Bianca has acquired after her father’s death.  They concoct an elaborate plan that involves kidnapping, seduction, and betrayal.

The interesting thing is that Jakob and David each have their own personal motivations.  David is not all he portrays himself to be.  Jakob has his own agenda that may not be true to the Bradley family interests.

There are other players in this game of greed and deception.  Jakob may end up being a victim as well.  Bianca is not the only one trying to seek the truth.  Jakob is not the only one trying to manipulate the truth.

How it all plays out is going to be a surprise to us all.  The next book , Resolution, will release on December 1st, 2015.  I can’t wait.

Michel’s Review

Charade by J. S. Cooper is the prequel novella in the Swept Away series. It can be read before book 1, Illusion or after.  It is not a Stand Alone novella.  It is a snippet of events in the complex plot in the Swept Away series.

Charade is an introduction to where it all began. Bianca’s father has passed away and she is left with boxes of old papers, letters, and documents that indicate that her mother’s death may not have been an accident. It also indicates that her father may have been swindled for a patent he created. It is the first time that Bianca has heard anything about her parents past.

The discoveries that she makes lead to more questions. The mystery is buried deep. Throughout her research on the information that she has obtained it is clear that the secrets have been buried deep and one family is behind it. She devises a plan to learn more about her parents past and the company that may have been responsible for their ruin.

She begins dating David Bradley, who is the son of the one of the founding members of the company in question. She is hoping to get close enough to find answers to her questions.

Bianca and David’s relationship progresses into what looks to be a very serious relationship. All seems to be going well until David starts showing his true colors. His family still remains a complete mystery. The past connections are starting to become dangerous.  It is clear that his mysterious brother is the one in control.

Charade gives the reader a good insight to the story that is about to unfold in the Swept Away series. It gives the reader a sense of the mystery. It also gives the reader more of a sense of Bianca’s personality and drive.

I would recommend reading this novella along with the series.   I am anxious to see where this series is going to next. New players are introduced in Illusion and the web of danger has been spun. The second book in the series, Disillusioned will release on March 17, 2015.

Guarding His Heart

Forever Love Series – Book 4

2cb3f-add-to-goodreads-button

By J. S. Cooper

Synopsis

Guarding His Heart is a STANDALONE book with no cliffhanger

Leonardo Maxwell was shocked when his best friend, Zane Beaumont fell in love and got married. While he is happy for his friend, he knows that he definitely doesn’t want to go the love and marriage route. He knows that there is nothing that can come from either of the two.

When his father calls him and tells him that it’s time for him to take over the family business, he does so reluctantly. He’s never liked the attention he gets as a billionaire’s son, but he knows it’s his duty.

Leo is not prepared for the animosity that he gets from his new assistant, Hannah on his first day of work. He has no idea why she hates him, but he’s glad for it. He doesn’t have time to waste staring at her beautiful long legs or her pink luscious lips. As far as he’s concerned they can have a strictly professional relationship. However, that all changes when they go on their first work trip together.

Guarding His Heart is recommended for readers age 18 and over, due to mature situations and language.

Michel’s Review

Guarding His Heart by J. S. Cooper is book four in the Forever Love series. I was really looking forward to this book’s release. The Forever Love series is one of my favorites and I loved the characters throughout the series. We met Leo Maxwell in this series. He is Zane Beaumont’s best friend. Throughout the series we got the impression that Leo was a pretty intense kind of guy. He worked as a bodyguard and came across as tough guy. Guarding His Heart shows another side to Leo’s personality.

Leo has given up his job as a bodyguard to go back to work in his father’s corporation. It’s time for him to step up to his rightful place as the heir to his father’s empire. He took the job that his assistant Hannah rightfully deserved. No wonder she hates him. The two begin a very rocky working relationship. Hannah feels that Leo is not competent enough to take over this job. He gives her the impression that he is an easy going man whore that is more interested in getting into her pants than getting the job done. She has worked hard to get where she is professionally. She may have to look elsewhere for career advancement if Leo continues in the direction he is going.

When a business trip turns into a disaster, Leo manages to make the most of it with Hannah. The two embark in a heated, purely sexual affair. They think they can keep their affair out of the office, keep it on friendly terms, with no commitments. Easier said than done.

When their secret affair is exposed Leo will have to decide if he dedicated to his career or  if he is a dedicated to Hannah enough to sacrifice his job.

Guarding His Heart was a fluffy kind of romance. It showed the playful side of love. It proved that even the die hard bachelors can fall when the right woman comes along. I liked the lightness of this book.  It was a fun read.

Review: Taming My Prince Charming by J. S. Cooper-Sequel To Finding My Prince Charming

Michel’s Review

** 2.5 Stars **

This review is one of the hardest reviews I have had to write. I am a huge fan of J. S. Cooper’s books. I love her work, her characters, and the worlds she creates for them. Her books are always entertaining, romantic, and well written. It is with a heavy heart that I write this review.

Taming My Prince Charming by J. S. Cooper is the sequel to Finding My Prince Charming. I was looking forward to this release because of the cliffhanger in the first book. I was also hoping that I could connect with these characters this go round and become more invested in their story. I was also under the impression that this was the conclusion to their story. But this was not the case.

Taming My Prince Charming was just another installment into the ongoing story and ended with another cliffhanger. But this time around I think this cliffhanger left a bad taste among some readers.

Taming My Prince Charming picks up where Finding My Prince Charming left off. Xavier has taken Lola to Romerius under the pretense of a royal engagement. We are under the impression that he did this to protect Lola from the media. But why would this protect her when a royal engagement would cause even more sensation.

Once they are in Romerius it becomes clear that Xavier has an agenda. What that agenda is never really explained or hinted at. Is it revenge? Is it a power play? Who is his revenge directed at and why? The only person that suffered throughout this book was Lola. She was subjected to some pretty ugly situations where she had no clue how to react. She was kept in the dark. Xavier not only has used her for his own sexual pleasures, he is exposing and exploiting her in a perverse world in which she does not belong.

Lola’s character changed quite a bit in this book. She went from being a strong, intelligent, independent young woman to becoming a submissive doormat. She gave Xavier some sass at times but let him walk all over her when her inner self was screaming to run in the other direction. The Lola from the first book would have been on a plane back to London without any second thoughts.

The plot in Taming My Prince Charming changed drastically from Finding My Prince Charming. Readers were expecting Lola to be introduced into the world of royality. We were expecting the conflict to come from that world. The royal world barely came into play. The readers were briefly introduced to the royal family. They did not get any information about the country of Romerius, the traditions, the politics, and their part in the world. The plot took on a new direction focusing on “The Club”. It was unclear what exactly this club is in the whole scheme of things. It is obvious The Club is for royals to act out on their sexual perversities and indiscretions. And why would they label these acts of indiscretions as a Ball?

I felt like the plot was jumbled and not on a clear direction. I also felt that the author was borrowing from other plots from her previous books. The Club is clearly one of those things.

Add a woman from Xavier’s past, another handsome prince with an agenda of his own, another prince that cheats on his wife, a young cousin that on the surface seems innocent, a disapproving mother, and a brother rushing home for unknown reasons and the reader finds their heads spinning.

I felt like the characters were not fully developed. We never get a true sense of who Xavier is. We get glimpses into his thoughts but they are not clear or followed through. He does not really come across as a Crown Prince. He has no concerns for his nationality, his countrymen, or his role in their lives. We never understand his attraction to Lola other than wanting to screw her. He abuses her innocence, insults her integrity, and treats her like a cheap whore most of the time. He is never tender with her. Why would she be attracted to a man who treats her so badly.

Lola’s character did a one eighty flop that just disappointed me.

As for all of the secondary characters I got a sense of who they were but just a small bit. I know their names but am not sure how they really fit into the story.

Taming My Prince Charming was not a royal romance. I really don’t know what it was. I feel adding the word romance is somewhat of a farce as far as this book is concerned. There really wasn’t romance in this book. The character interaction, the build up of sexual chemistry, and the dialogue that leads to a romantic love story was missing. It was more of a few sexual interludes that had no tenderness or true fire behind them.

Taming My Prince Charming should have been titled Lola and The Big Bad Wolf.

I will read the next book in this series because of Lola and Lola alone. She was left in a horrific situation that has my gut clenching. I am hoping she comes through this ordeal a stronger woman and gives Xavier the FU and gets out of the palace.

Keeping My Prince Charming will be out in November 2014.

Taming My Prince Charming

Serial Review: The Love Trials Vol. 1 – Vol. 3

the love trials vol.1

Synopsis for Part One

New hot, sexy and suspenseful serial from the New York Times Bestselling Author of The Ex Games and The Private Club. The Love Trials is a three part contemporary romance serial.

She thought she knew what was between the sheets, but she really had no idea.

I thought I knew what I was getting into when I received the invitation from the lovers academy. I thought I was going for love. I had no idea that the lovers academy cared more about what happened between the sheets than it did a meeting of the minds and souls.

This isn’t your regular love story. My Prince Charming didn’t ride up on a white horse and come and save me. In fact, he warned me to stay away from him. Of course, I didn’t listen. Why would I? There’s something so exciting about going after someone you shouldn’t have.

However, I never thought it would be like this. I’ve never felt so conflicted in my life. No one told me that being bad could feel so good. No one told me that when the big bad wolf tells you to run away and hide, you should listen.

If I’d only known just how far from charming my prince was, I would have ignored the invitation.

Readers of this serial should be prepared for a wild sexy ride. They should also be above 18 years of age due to sexy situations.

4 star read

* 4 Stars for the complete Love Trials Serial*

Michel’s Review

The Love Trials serial by J. S. Cooper is an addition to the ongoing story introduced in the The Ex Games serial and The Private Club serial. The dynamic characters, their stories of deceit, lust, and wrong doing will have the readers intrigued. The Love Trials is the story of Nancy and Jaxon. We met Nancy in The Private Club and her place in the series surprised us all. Now we get to see what Nancy does now that she has found her place in the intriguing world J. S. Cooper has created.

*4 Stars * for The Love Trial Serial

Individual Ratings for each volume below:

the love trials vol.1The Love Trials Vol. 1

4.5 Stars…..

Another great serial romance by J. S. Cooper

Were you addicted to The Ex Games serial and The Private Club serial by J. S. Cooper? I know I was. I just couldn’t get enough. As both series ended there were characters that I wanted to know more about. I wanted them to have their own story. I was curious on how their lives would turn out. One of those characters was Nancy.

Nancy turned out to be a complete surprise in The Private Club series. Her connections with the owners of the Private Club were much deeper than the readers anticipated. She became a major player in this ongoing saga. The Love Trials is her story.

Nancy has been in love with an older man for years. He was her teacher and mentor. She truly thought they were to be destined soulmates. Once she became an adult and a legal age, she decided she was going to go after her dream. After a lengthy research, she finds her former teacher is now teaching at the Lovers’ Academy. It is not your ordinary school. It is a school that teaches women the art of seduction and the power of sex.

Nancy enrolled and was accepted into the Lovers’ Academy. She sees this as her opportunity to reunite with her beloved Hunter. She knows that once she gets there, they will be able to pursue a relationship without the boundaries of society, family, and friends. They can be together now that she is legal. They can have the forever love they were destined to have.

Things didn’t turn out exactly as Nancy planned once she arrived at the Lovers’ Academy. Hunter didn’t regconize or acknowledge her. She was assigned a different teacher. The actual curriculum of the Lovers’ Academy is quite different from her expectations. It is not lectures, demonstrations, and book reading. It is hands on. She will learn the art of love making with her new instructor in a very personal manner. Is she up to it? If it will land her Hunter, she will go the mile.

Her instructor has her heart racing, her desire escalating, and her complete attention. He is strong, sexy, knowledgeable, and mysterious. He has the right kind of curriculum to have Nancy striving to be a star student.

As the lessons begin, Nancy will discover secrets about herself she never thought she had. She will start falling into her instructor, Jaxon’s web, and will find that Hunter may not be what she thought he was. In fact, it appears Hunter has an agenda of his own that might not be good for Nancy. We won’t know until The Love Trials Vol. 2.

What is Hunter’s agenda?

Why has Jaxon chosen Nancy as his student?

Are there secrets lying beneath the surface at the Lovers’ Academy?

What is Nancy’s next assignment?

J. S. Cooper has delivered another sensual, intriguing, suspenseful new serial. It is the spin off of The Ex Games and The Private Club. It is starting out just as thrilling. I can’t wait to read more.

I would give this story a five star rating for the plot, characters, story flow, and pacing. Five stars for entertainment value, I could not put it down. The only thing that kept The Love Trials Vol. 1 from being a five star rating is that there were several editing errors in the 48 pages. As a reader and reviewer I expect better editing.

the love trials vol. 2The Love Trials Vol. 2

5 Stars!

The Love Trials 2 by J. S. Cooper picks up right were the Love Trials 1 left off. Nancy confronts Jaxon about the disturbing conversation she has overheard. His explanations leave her reeling with all kinds of confusion. Despite her inner instincts to cut her losses and run far away from the Love Academy she choses to stick it out. After all there is a mystery to solve, facts to be found, feelings to be explored, choices over which man to chose, and a profound need for self preservation.

The longer she remains at the Lovers Academy, more questions begin to build a fragile reason to hang on to her original motivations for attending the Lovers Academy in the first place. She has learned that Jaxon and his father have a vendetta against her newly found father, Brandon. The more she learns, the more she questions her newfound relationship with her father and her place in the family unit. She also begins to question her feelings about Hunter. The more she learns, the more twisted it becomes. Hunter is not all she thought he was. He also has an agenda.

Jaxon, on the other hand is not playing his hand completely. On one hand he seems to care about her as a person and as a student. On the hand, he also has a vendetta that could very well destroy her and her family. The only thing that makes him different from Hunter and his father is his honesty about his involvement. She knows he is involved but not the whole story. She has to make a choice on whether to trust him or cut her losses.

Just as things start surfacing, new questions lead the story down another path. It ends with a startling cliffhanger that has your jaw on the floor! I cannot wait for The Love Trials 3.

J. S. Cooper has mastered the art of writing a serial romance. She creates intrigue, mystery, and hair raising scenes. She adds red hot sexual tension loaded with passion. She creates a line up of dynamic characters and brings characters from the former Ex Games & Private Club into play. It is like reading an ongoing saga that features different characters in each serial but blends the former serial with a perfect balance in their world.

I must say the editing and flow of the story was perfection.

the love trials3The Love Trials Vol. 3

* 3 Stars *

The Love Trials has reached it’s conclusion. Secrets have been revealed, the final hand has been played, a murder has been solved, players have switched sides, and road to vengeance has been traveled.

Everything that happened in the final episode of this serial surprised me. At times I felt like the story was rushed and some scenes didn’t have enough “meat” to make them work in the story. At other times I found scenes that had too much “meat” , that made it feel like the words were just fillers. The ending was good and the characters found their HEA, however again it was too rushed.

The overall series was good but I do think the final episode was the weakest contribution. I felt the story was rushed, a times the character motivations did not seem realistic, and I found quite a few editing errors. The Love Trials serial is a good contribution to the overall story that has played out in The Ex Games serial and Private Club serial. I would recommend all three serial’s because J. S. Cooper has created some fascinating characters in a world that is beyond our imagination.

Review: Rhett by J. S. Cooper

Rhett

Synopsis

New Standalone novel from New York Times Bestselling Author J. S. Cooper

I’m Rhett.

I’m cocky because I can be. I’ve got it all: the looks, the money, the endurance. I’m the guy that every girl wants to be with, yet none of them have ever been able to tie me down.

I don’t do love. I don’t do relationships. And I sure as hell will never do marriage.

I’m all about the fast life and everything that entails. There’s a different woman in my bed every week. My friends are jealous of me. My enemies envy me. Everyone wants my life. And everything in my life is absolutely perfect. At least, that’s what everyone thinks.

Everything changed the day, Clementine O’Hara told me she was moving away. She’s my best friend. She was my first kiss in grade school. We share everything with each other. She’s the only girl I haven’t tried anything with because she’s off-limits to me and my friends. Only, suddenly I’m seeing her in a different light.

I’m Rhett and I don’t let anything get me down. Then one night changed everything and everything I thought I knew was called into question. All of a sudden, being Rhett didn’t mean so much anymore. All of a sudden my friendship with Clementine was in jeopardy and I wasn’t sure what I was going to do.

Michel’s Review

Rhett by J. S. Cooper is another fun read. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I loved watching a player brought to his knees and losing his heart. Those are the best ones to fall.

Rhett has always had everything he ever wanted. He’s good looking, smart, rich, a ladies man, and a best friend that has been by his side no matter what. That best friend is Clemmie. He knows he can depend on her. He knows she will always be there.   But will she?

Clemmie has been Rhett’s best friend through thick and thin. She understands him and his conceited ways. She has always been there for him. But now, she realizes that she has always put him first and her needs lasts. Now she is going to put herself first. She is going to put herself out there, start dating, and start moving towards her future life. A new life that might not have room for Rhett.

Once Clemmie starts dating other men and looking into moving, Rhett sees her in a new light. He suddenly sees a woman instead of a girl. A woman that he wants more than anything.

Rhett always gets what he wants. This time he may not. This time it isn’t going to be easy. This time Rhett is going to have to give himself. Can he do it?

Read the book! It is a fun romp that will not disappoint.
