The ladies’ room door opened and she walked out, pulling up short when she saw him standing there. Her eyes widened slightly and she swallowed as if she were a little nervous.

“Um, hi again,” she said.

“Hi.”

“I… I…” She closed her eyes and shook her head. “Dammit,” she muttered.

Remy didn’t know what to say, so he didn’t say anything. She’d sort it out eventually.

Her head lifted, and she looked as if she’d turned on a switch somewhere deep inside. A switch that people like him didn’t have. He knew she came from money. Hell, everyone in Louisiana knew the Girard name.

But that hoity-toity superiority thing had never set well with him before, and it wasn’t going to start now. No matter how cute she was.

She was every inch the elite debutante as she stared down her nose at him. No mean trick since she was several inches shorter.

“I’m sorry if I’ve given you mixed signals. The truth is I have no idea what I’m doing.” She spread her hands, dropping her gaze from his. “You seem nice. She slapped a hand over her mouth and tried to hold the giggles in. He found that he wanted to laugh too—but he couldn’t. If he did, he’d be as cracked as she was. Especially since he really didn’t know what they were laughing at.

“Oh God,” she said after a moment of helplessly gulping air to calm herself. “You must think I’m insane.”

“I’m beginning to wonder,” he said, but he grinned to soften the words.

She searched his face as if she expected to find an answer there. “You really don’t know, do you?”

“Know what?”

“About my husband? About the drag queen?”

Remy thought that if eyebrows could climb a face, his were doing it right now. “Honey, I have no idea what you’re talking about. But I’ve got to admit it’s intriguing.”

Christina pressed a hand to her middle. She was slightly built, but she had curves. She smiled at him and he felt like someone had knocked him in the back of the head with a hammer. Damn, she was pretty.

“You must not read the papers. Or watch much television.”

“I’m in the Navy, cher. I don’t have a lot of time for gossip. HQ tells me what I need to know, and then I go to work fixing the bad stuff.”

She darted her tongue out to lick her lower lip, and his groin tightened. Jesus.

“Well, you’re probably the only person I’ve run into who has no idea then. I find that rather refreshing. Except now you want to know what happened, so there goes your ignorance of the situation.” She sucked in a breath. “Nevertheless, you can google, so I’ll give you the gist.”

She leaned toward him. He wondered if she was drunk, but she didn’t sway or have glassy eyes, so he decided she wasn’t. She was just fond of the dramatic.“Ben—that’s my rat-bastard soon-to-be ex—got caught getting fucked in the ass by a guy with boobs bigger than mine at a political fundraiser. So there you go. She remembered Chase as a gorgeous, moody teenager, remembered when she’d started thinking about sex and how he’d figured into some of her masturbatory fantasies. He snorted and pushed a hand through his hair. “You want me to answer before you do. I get it.”

He took a step closer to her and put a hand on her hip, drawing her into him. She didn’t resist because what kind of crazy woman would?

“I feel like I want to do everything we did last night again,” he said. “I feel like I’d fucking kill for the chance to taste you right now—and yeah, I feel guilty too.”

“I’m sorry,” she said softly.
Her apology kicked him in the gut. “He lied to you, Emily. He can’t do what he said. You need to go home and go back to school.”

Lynn Raye Harris never fails to disappoint readers with her impressive romantic suspense series, The Hostile Operations Team series. Each novel can be read as a stand alone or in series order. Each book features a different couple and a completely different plot that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. Hot Ice is the seventh book in this series.

Hot Ice features Garrett “Iceman” Spencer from the team. He is known for his ice cold demeanor and stand off attitude. Garrett has been through a very bitter divorce that has left his heart frozen. The only thing Garrett really truly cares about outside of his work is his young daughter.   When he is assigned to protect a prominent Senator’s daughter because of his upbringing and social background, he is pissed. He has no use for a haughty spoiled princesses. He has been there and done that. His new assignment will be a complete surprise. It may even thaw his frozen heart.

Grace Campbell is the daughter of a prominent Senator that has become a presidential hopeful. She is also a brilliant doctor and research scientist. Her research consists of creating a super virus. She is a quiet, shy, and resilient woman. She would rather be in a lab than in the political limelight. Her father’s political aspirations force her to keep up her social appearances. Her father’s announcement of running for president has brought her negative attention concerning her career. It has also put her in jeopardy.

After an attack at the lab, Grace is assigned a special bodyguard from H.O.T. , Garrett Spencer. On the surface he is intimidating and scary. She also finds this tattooed man intriguing and downright sexy. What surprises her the most is the real man under the façade he shows the world.

As the plot thickens, Grace’s life is threatened, and danger lurks at every turn, the sexual tension builds between the two. Once they give in to their attraction to one another their passion ignites. These two are burning up the sheets and searing their hearts.

Hot Ice was packed full of action and suspense as well as red hot passion. Lynn Raye Harris has mastered the craft of writing romantic suspense. She has added a whole new dimension with her scorching love scenes and red hot romance.
