Heath pulled back to look at her. “Reunion?”

“I know you dated her in college.” Maddie watched his reaction in the glow of the moon.

“How?” He squeezed her upper arms.

“Because I called you and she answered the phone. She was happy to inform me I’d been replaced.” A knot formed in Maddie’s throat, and she looked down.

“When? When did you call me?” His grip tightened.

“When I needed a friend—” Her voice broke, and she turned her head away, hoping he wouldn’t catch the tear rolling down her cheek.

He caught it in the pale light and wiped it away. “She lied. You’re irreplaceable, Maddie Baker. I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you. If I’d known—”

“It was for the best really.” She forced herself to meet his gaze. “I needed to learn to survive without you.”

“But it was hard just surviving each day.” He swallowed audibly. “Wasn’t it?” Heath’s hands moved to her back, and he pulled her closer to his warm chest.

Maddie nodded because she couldn’t speak. She wanted to put the past behind her, but if she didn’t talk to Heath about it, it would come between them more than it already had.

“What about you?” Danny asked. “Who taught you to dance?”

“My grandfather, sort of,” Jane said. “He put me in karate and dancing when I started kindergarten. He didn’t know what to do with a little girl. I guess he tried to find balance for me.”

“Thanks to him, you can kick my ass and dance circles around me,” he said over his shoulder as he did a merengue step in place, while she literally danced around him. “I’ll have to thank him if I ever meet him.”

Before she returned to face him, she flared her fingers as she ran her hand across his back, feeling the taught muscles there. She tore her gaze from the fluid movement of his hips to see his eyes twinkling with laughter.

What had he been saying? Oh yeah, Grandfather.

Jane didn’t have the heart to tell him her grandfather had passed. Because it reminded her of how alone she was in the world, she didn’t like to think about it.

When they reached the front door of Danny’s house, Liz turned to Ian. “Thanks for the escort. Now, get back over there and enjoy your party. I hope I didn’t ruin it.”

You couldn’t ruin anything if you tried.” Ian leaned in and kissed her cheek. It was warm.

Next time, leave that shovel at home, ya here?” she said as a smile played at the corners of her full lips.

One day, I’ll pay you a compliment and you’ll accept it.”

You’re an actor. I might not believe anything that comes out of your mouth,” she said with a smirk and raised eyebrows.

He tsked. “So cynical. I wonder what made you that way?”

Liz tilted her head to one side and her smile broadened as she shrugged. Ian was caught in it, forgetting what he’d even said. There was something about her. Not one thing, but many little things, all of which added up to something really unexpected.

I’ve always been this way. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. I didn’t mean to imply that you aren’t a good actor. I honestly don’t know. But I Googled you and you’ve been at it a long time, so I bet you’re pretty talented.”

You Googled me?” Warmth spread through his chest and his own smile broadened. It was ridiculous to be so enamored by this Southern belle. Women searched for him online quite frequently, but he didn’t know those women. This one was standing a few feet away, breathing the same air. He was on the verge of asking her to dinner, but stopped himself just in time. If he couldn’t think of another option, she might be his caregiver and she definitely wouldn’t want to date him then.

Bravo Meda on an amazing first book!

Play With My Heart is a Hollywood romance with a twist. The twist is that Liz is as far from a Hollywood starlight as one can get even though she has enough money to be one. She is down to earth and not afraid to get her hands dirty. When Ian see’s her karate kicking down her brothers deck he is mesmerized. His feet just start walking towards his neighbor Danny’s place and he just cant stop himself. Her legs are calling his name.

Even though Ian and Liz are a very unlikely match they cannot deny the chemistry that exists between the two of them. Ian knows that Liz is too good for him and yet he wants her more than he can breathe. He knows that Liz is not the love em and leave em type and decides he will do what it takes to keep her. But Liz has not been upfront about her wealth and when Ian’s manager gets a hold of him things take a turn for the worse. Can this love that they share be saved or is it better to just call a spade a spade?

The banter between Liz, Ian, her Ex, and Danny had me laughing out loud. Liz is not afraid to tell it like it is. Meda did an excellent job with character development in this story. I really bonded with Liz and felt like we could be friends in real life. Meda also did an amazing job with the plot twists in the read. I was hit hard with something I did not see coming and I had to grab a box of tissues to dry my crying eyes. Play With My Heart is a sweet southern romance that will sneak into your heart and stay there.
