My Skylar by Penelope Ward *5-Star Review*

my skylar

Synopsis

From the author of the #1 bestselling romance, Jake Undone, comes a friends-to-lovers story of longing, passion, betrayal and redemption…with a twist that will rip your heart out.

Skylar was my best friend, but I secretly pined for her. One thing after another kept us apart, and I’ve spent the last decade in fear of losing her forever.

First, it was the cancer, but she survived only to face the unthinkable at my hands. Because of me, she left town. For years, I thought I’d never see her again.

But now she’s back…and living with him.

I don’t deserve her after everything I’ve put her through, but I can’t live without her. This is my last chance because she’s about to make the biggest mistake of her life. I can see it her eyes: she doesn’t love him. She still loves me…which is why I have to stop her before it’s too late.

My Skylar is a STANDALONE story of 99,000 words and a companion to the novel, Jake Undone. It does NOT need to be read in conjunction with any other book.

It began as a chance meeting, a hand extended in friendship. Two people coming together in the most innocent of ways. It would turn into a love story, spanning years, that could not be denied.

Skylar and Mitch met one summer day when they were just children, when she stepped into his life and decided to make him smile. Although they were together for just two months, they became everything to each other, filling spaces and mending hearts. When Mitch had to leave to return home, Skylar was heartbroken at losing her best friend, but Mitch promised her that their story was ‘To Be Continued.’ After not seeing each other for five years, Mitch and Skylar were reunited, and their friendship picked right back up as if no time had passed at all. Even faced with a growing attraction to each other, they tried to keep themselves strictly friend-zoned, but they finally decided to face the fact that they were meant to be. When tragedy strikes, more than once, their love is tested, and decisions are made that truly test them.

Oh, my goodness, I absolutely loved this book. My heart broke over and over for Skylar and Mitch throughout this story. I mean, they just could not catch a break! First they ‘find’ each other as kids, then are separated for five years. Then, life brought them back together for a while, and just when things seemed to be falling into place for them, oh, my gosh, the heartache. And so it continued for years.

Let me just say that Mitch,oh, my goodness, I want a Mitch. He was absolutely WONDERFUL. He changed from a boy to a loving, steadfast, and oh, yes, HOT man. And all that he wanted was to be with Skylar, to be her rock and to love her. And, Skylar, sweet Skylar, she loved Mitch so much. I truly wanted to throw my ereader a few times, because it was just one thing after another that seemed to point to the end for these two.

Penelope Ward has done a fantastic job with ‘My Skylar,’ writing a book that I absolutely could not put down. I read it in one day, determined to keep going to the end. I loved all of the characters (well, except Charisma), and the story, with all it’s twists and turns, well, it was just fantastic. Absolutely a big FIVE stars for this one; grab it up and read it NOW.
