EXCERPT:

I stand and wave my hand at him. “Lead the way, Bill.”

Askew gives me a dirty look, but he does as I instruct.

In life, there are moments that crash into you, moments you can’t see coming, that hit you from nowhere. Jonathan dying was one of those moments. So was my mother’s sudden death.

But thisthis isn’t. Walking down a long, quiet hallway toward a corner officethis is me walking into it, eyes wide open. I know that my life is about to change, that when the door to that office opens, it’s going to change everything I know and I am moving toward it anyway.

Charlie is glaring and muttering under her breath but I follow Askew quietly, almost eagerly. He pushes open the door.

A girl sits there, reading.

She’s small, fine boned, and looks almost delicate sitting there on Askew’s long black couch. She’s dressed in a pink skirt and a black top with shiny black buttons, her hair a wild cloud of curls around her.

She looks like Lindsey in miniature, and she’s heartbreakingly adorable.

And then she glances up. My heart stops, and Charlie chokes.

She has ice blue eyes, the same ones I see in the mirror every day and in my sisterand she’s smiling, shy and sweet like Dempsey does when he’s uncomfortable, and I just know.

I know that this girl is mine. My life will never be the same again.

Blurb:

He’s infuriating…

Dempsey Jones has been a nuisance my entire life, the straight-laced Boy Scout grown up to be a firefighter, of all things. He was the one helping kittens out of trees and old ladies cross the road while I was lighting cherry bombs with my best friend in abandoned buildings, and now that we’re all grown up—even if my Dad doesn’t agree—he’s still just as annoying.

She’s impossible…

Taite Ridley has been a constant my whole life, the curly haired mischievous daughter of the police chief, charming and devious and alluring. She was wild in ways I never dared to be and too big for our little town. But she’s here, a small town cop, and I can’t avoid her, even if I wanted to.

And I don’t want to.

It’s like mixing fire and gasoline and when these two collide, someone is gonna get burned…

Excerpt:

Im fine,I call, waving, wincing when the move tugs at the gouges the demon kitten left behind.

Dempseys lips twitch and I glare at him.

Does the Chief know?I ask.

He inclines his head and says, Its protocol to inform the department if theres an officer down.

I curse and huff, Im going to shoot Miguel with his own service weapon.

Dempsey lifts an eyebrow.

Fine, you win,I sigh, Check me out. Might as well get it over with. The Chief will make me when he gets here anyway.

Im a little surprised he isnt already here, except I know he was checking out a call about vandalism over at the River Bridge. It means Daddys only twenty minutes away, or less by now. Im pretty sure Dempsey will be done with me by the time he gets here and Ill look less like a drowned rat in the light of his flashing blues.

God willing, anyway.

Dempsey follows me up the three steps and into Mrs. Rudolphs den. Its cozy, floral, and hot enough that Im absurdly grateful for the lack of coat.

Would you like some coffee?she asks, directing the question firmly at Dempsey. I want to bitchIm the one wet and bleedingbut I know better. I snarl under my breath and Dempsey wisely chooses to shake his head.

If you could just point me to your bathroom?he says, the usual charming inflection in his tone that grates against my skin.

And because shes a traitor, Mrs Rudolph smiles, this girlish thing that looks weird on a face thats pushing eighty, and points him down the hall toward a fucking pink bathroom. I had to rescue her damn cockatoo from that monstrosity when I was a rookie, and Ive never gotten over the hideousness.

Miguel says I have issues. I maintain that they are well earned.

Coffee sounds fantastic,I say, digging my heels in.

Dempseys hand clamps down on my arm and he hauls me along behind him like Im some kind of errant child. Im a cop. Being manhandled like this is not a good look for me. It makes me want to hiss and scratch at him until he lets me go.

It makes a completely differentidioticside of me want to purr and arch under his touch.

He pushes me against the pink counter until I take the not so subtle hint and hoist myself up.

You gonna be good or a pain in the ass about this?he asks, opening up his first aid kit.

I flash him a cheeky smirk. You wouldnt know what to do with me if I wasnt a pain in the ass,I answer as he snaps on a pair of rubber gloves.

Excerpt:

I grew up in River City.

It’s a good place for a kid to grow up—small town enough that I could wander without causing much worry, as long as no one counted my father.

He counted himself, but I stopped a while ago.

But it’s small enough that there’s not enough crime that I couldn’t wander, and big enough that it didn’t bore even me to tears. It was this intoxicatingly perfect mix of small town and big city, where everyone knew everyone and we didn’t have to drive an hour to go to a mall or museum.

And I never wanted to leave it. River City was home. I wandered away for college, and promptly came back, and I loved it—it’s where every good memory I had was, a place I cared about with a ferocity that only a native could. It knew my secrets and my history and it kept both safe.

But right this second, as I stood on Mrs. Rudolph’s front yard in the sideways rain—she was perched on her covered porch with a cup of coffee clasped in her wrinkled hands—I was questioning literally every decision I’d ever made in my life.

“Ma’am, we checked your crawlspace last week.”

“That Harper checked it,” Mrs Rudolph says, dismissive as fuck and I hear a muffled snort behind me. My smile feels brittle as she smiles brightly at me. “But I know you’ll do a good job. You don’t mind, do you, Taite?”

And that’s why.

I love River City with all my heart, but I swear to god, becoming a cop in a city that watched me grow up was probably the worst idea I’d ever had.

And I’d had a long and illustrious career of bad ideas, as Daddy was very helpful to point out.

A choked noise came from behind me and I fixed my plastic smile a little bit wider before saying, “Gimme just one second, Mrs Rudolph, Officer Delgado and I need to talk.”

She nods agreeably and takes a sip of her damnable coffee and I turn to pin my partner with a glare.

Miguel doesn’t even have the good grace to try to hide his smile.

“Don’t look at me like that,” he says, smile wide and cheerful.

“It’s your turn to go crawling under houses.”

“How do you figure that?” he asks, attempting to school his expression.

“I went up the tree for the Foster girls’ kitten last week!”

“Didn’t Dempsey—”

I snarl and he very wisely shuts his mouth. His eyes are still a little too bright, though, and I kinda want to punch him. I do not stomp my foot. “You promised not to bring him up,” I snap.

“I know,” he gives me apologetic eyes. “I slipped, sorry.”

I glance back at the house, at Mrs Rudolph waiting anxiously.

“I have to go, don’t I?” I say, resigned.

Miguel nudges me with one shoulder. “If you don’t, we’ll be here next week. She’s not gonna believe any of us until you tell her there’s nothing down there.”

“But—”

This. This is the problem. I grew up here, the only daughter of the police chief, a fucking widower and somehow became the town mascot. Even when I want to be taken serious, it’s like all anyone sees is the knobby kneed, ratty haired fourteen year old running the streets with Miguel and getting into trouble.

I huff a curse and shrug out of my waterproofed jacket. The rain immediately starts biting into my uniform and I resign myself to spending the rest of my shift wet and muddy.

Maybe Miguel would let us swing by my apartment to change before we headed back to the station.

“I hate this,” I mutter and he nods.

But he doesn’t quite hide his grin as I drop to my knees and crawl under Mrs Rudolph’s damn house.

“I went to school for this. The fucking Academy. So I could crawl around in the mud looking for—fuck. Miguel, what the fuck am I even looking for?” I shout, my voice muffled.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000446_00060]

DIRTY SEXY SECRET Blurb:

Even when you know better….
There are a million reasons why Hazel Campton is off limits: she’s a journalist. I’m a cop. Oh, and she’s my foster sister.
My secret is I didn’t care. I haven’t stopped wanting her since I slept with her the night before she left.
She’s trouble. Always has been.

It’s hard to resist the thing you’ve always wanted…
Growing up with Brandon Archer means I know him. Good. Bad. Everything in between.
It’s just never mattered.
My secret? That night. The one I stole, that’s kept me from Archer and Green County, for four years.
Now I’m home, and nothing has changed. Except me. And not in the way that means a damn thing.
Because I still want him.

Everything can change with a knock at the door…
Secrets. Everyone has them. Archer. Me. This town.
Perfection only runs surface deep in Green County. When there’s a knock at me door, it’s a familiar face all covered in danger, and all those secrets we hide? They’re about to come tumbling out.

The first in a sexy new series about Green County, and the people who serve there.

DSS_Teaser1

Excerpt:

Some people say you can’t go home again. And that is a complete pile of bullshit. You can. It just won’t be home.
I should know. I did it.
Green County doesn’t change. It’s been four years since I bolted and six months since I sucked up all my pride and ego and came back. And it still struck me as strange. Green Co was exactly the same. Same ridiculous festivals. Same leafy boulevards and parks filled with yoga moms and shrieking children. The same gossips line the coffee shop and eye me when I step in.
They’ll chatter my every move to Elijah later, cooing over him while warning that I was too skinny, too wild too rude too too too.
They did the same thing in high school.
Nothing changed in Green Co. If you want change you go somewhere else and you let it wrap you up tight and fight like hell to keep from being dragged back.
Elijah gets pissy when I say shit like that. But Eli never left Green Co. Never felt the need to get out, to see and shape the world. He’s always been more than happy to see and shape the County.
And you know, he was right. He was good at it. I loved that he cared so much about Green Co. That he wanted to save the little Kansas county from itself.
Someone had to.
I flash the ladies a smile as I order two extra large iced coffees. Cindy grins at me, punching in the order and adding a slice of banana bread and her boxed lunch.
“Long day, Hazel?”
I smile, a half quirk of my lips that passes as a grin these days. “It’s a day ending in Y, Cins. Those are always long.”
She gives me a smirk that tips toward worry. “You need a day off, sugar.”
I make a face, and drop a twenty on the counter as I take my order. “I don’t even know what I’d do with that much free time.”
She arches an eyebrow at me and I grin at her.
“Hazel, my love,” Gabe says, sailing through the door of the coffee shop as I turn away from the counter.
I swallow the grin before it twists into a smirk. “Gabriel,” I say, almost frosty and he laughs.
Smug bastard.
“We should carpool, love, if we’re going to keep meeting like this. Save the planet and all.”
“Because you care so much about the damn planet,” I scoff, and he makes a face, all wounded dignity.
The problem with that face is that I know Gabe. I’ve known him my whole life.
Gabe is everything I ran away from when I left Green Co. Everything I wanted to forget. The smirk that means trouble and the too sharp eyes that sees right through my quick easy lies and watches with concern when I isolate.
F*cking bastard is my neighbor. He’s too damn close for comfort and too damn nosy for his own good.
And coming from an investigative journalist, that’s pretty f*cking nosy.

EXCERPT:

Las Vegas Police Department, Interrogation Room B.

Detective Blackmon: State your name for the record.
Charlotte Brooks: (clears throat) Charlie Brooks.
Detective Blackmon: Your legal name, ma’am.
Brooks: Charlotte Suzanne Brooks.
Detective Blackmon: Have you been advised of your rights, ma’am?
Brooks: (soft laugh) you advised me of them. So yes.
Detective Blackmon: Do you want to tell us how you came to know Ms Ella Jane Munro?
Brooks: Where is she?
Detective Blackmon: Ma’am, I need you to calm down and give your statement.
Brooks: Where the fuck is EJ?
Detective Blackmon: At night fifty pm the LVPD were called to a hotel room secured with a credit card in your name. Upon searching it, we found drugs, weapons and almost two hundred in cash. Do you want to say anything about that?
Brooks: I wasn’t in that room, and neither were my belongings. You verified that. My wallet was stolen. And I want EJ.
Brooks: Why the hell are you looking at me like that?
Detective Blackmon: Ma’am…
Brooks: (screaming) where the hell is EJ?

Chapter 1

If she could look at it, with the hindsight of everything that had happened, she would say that it all began six months before Wallace Bryce Talbert went missing. The day Ella Jane Munro sold Llewellyn Koonts a hit of blow in the locker room of her father’s country club.
Of course, if she had the luxury of hindsight, she might have changed everything by simply going to lunch at the Greenhouse instead of tennis at the club.
Then again. Charlotte had never had much use for hindsight and even less for regrets.

*

Charlie Brooks was an institution at the Buringtree Country Club. She had grown up in the halls, played tennis early and well, swam in the summer and pranced around the greens in tiny shorts, her blonde hair bobbing in her signature braid.
She was a perfect debutant. Sweet as sugar when it suited her, and an utter bitch when it didn’t. The staff at the club lived in fear of her temper. HR had to step in when she was in high school and they couldn’t keep a staff–Charlie either terrorized them into quitting or demanded they were fired over minor infractions.
And because she was Travis Brooks only daughter, she usually got her way.
Ella Jane Munro was different from Charlie. Just as bitchy, just as demanding. Filthy fucking rich. But Charlie revealed in who and what she was born to. She never wanted anything but to be the queen bee at her private school, at the club, and Vanderbilt. Everything she did was carefully calculated for how it would reflect on her and how people viewed her.
It’s why she and Ella Jane had never gotten along, despite being in the same circles.
From the outside, they would have made the perfect frenemies. Self-destructive, the kind of too close back-stabbing that would fuel the wet dreams of high school boys with visions of love hate sexcapdes.
Ella Jane and Charlie didn’t cooperate. Ella was bored to death with country club life and everything expected of a deb. And she might be an it girl, in her blasé way, but she never aspired to steal Charlie’s crown.
They existed for most of their life, in a kind of live and let live détente.
No one could explain why that changed. It was whispered about, of course. Two of Charleston’s favorite daughters, suddenly inseparable? Everyone had a theory. No one knew the truth, though.
No one would have ever believed the truth.

*

The door to her office opened and closed again, in the kind of way that was an announcement. She swallowed a smirk and layered another coat of pale pink on her nails.
Most girls would pay for a manicure, but she had always found the ritual of her nail care to be soothing.
The cash slapped down on her desk and she blinked at it slowly before letting her gaze slide lazily up to the woman across from her.
Sharp green eyes, long jet black hair with a single streak of magenta in bangs cut across her forehead. A pair of designer skinny jeans and a loose, sheer black tank top scattered with polka dot skull and cross bones, lace edged cami under it showing off her amazing tits.
Only Ella Jane could stalk into her office in designer jeans and a Walmart clearance top and look perfect instead of ridiculous.
“Your half.” She says.
Charlie finishes her last finger, admiring it briefly before screwing the lid on her nail polish and giving the other woman her attention.
“When are you meeting with Jacobs?”
“Tomorrow. Don’t be impatient, greedy girl.”
She bites down on the acidic response that wants to rise, and arches an eyebrow silently. EJ stares at her for a long moment, before she huffs a sigh and drops into the high back leather chair across from her.
“You can’t do anything until Monday anyway. Isn’t your engagement thing tonight.”
It’s posed as a question, but she knows damn well when it is. Charlie goes still and her gaze clouds for a heartbeat.
“Do you want me to come?” EJ asks, quietly.
The offer startles a laugh from Charlie and she grins, a dry, mocking thing. “And how the hell would I explain that? No. Stay on your side of the club, and I’ll stay on mine. I’ll be fine.”
There’ a tense moment, as they stare at each other, and Charlie wonders just how much EJ suspects.
They weren’t supposed to become friends—it was a business arrangement. One that benefited them both and made EJ’s supplier happy. But it had evolved.
It made her nervous, and nothing made her nervous. She didn’t like it.
“Don’t be a bitch, Charlie,” EJ says coldly.
“Then don’t fucking hover.” Charlie snaps.
Anger flares in EJ’s eyes, for a moment, and then it vanished, and she stands. “Fine. Have fun with your boy.”
Her tone is mocking and knowing and it stings a little as she watches EJ leave.
For a moment, it occurs to her that she should apologize. She dismisses it just as quickly and grabs the stack of cash, standing and moving to the wall where her safe is.
It’s crammed with cash and a small black revolver. As she adds the new stack to the others, she touches the gun.
It’s soothing, and her unease and nerves settle at the touch of the cool metal.
It’ a standard black Glock. Most of her girlfriends carry a tiny pink pistols they can tuck into their Coach bags with equally ridiculous sized dogs. But Travis Brooks always said that if she wanted to be man enough to carry a gun, she’d damn well carry a man’s gun.
“Charlotte? We have a meeting with the partners.”
She snaps the safe shut, keying the lock and spins to smile at her fiancée.
Wallace Bryce Talbert the Third. Tre to his friends and enemies alike. A golden boy in her father’s law firm, and the man she had promised to spend her entire life with.
He’s grinning at her, holding a hand out and she swallows her nerves and fear as she places her hand in his and follows him out of the office.

*

EJ pads out of her bedroom, her naked body wrapped in moonlight. A bottle of spumante sits discarded in a silver wine chiller, and she grabs it as she moves to her purse and pull out a pack of cigarettes. She smokes almost pensively, staring out the window. Behind her, she can hear him moving and she keeps her gaze trained on the window as smoke curls around her, dissipating slowly.
“You should come back to bed,” he says, and she can hear the tease in his tone. She barely manages to keep from rolling her eyes as she wraps her lips around the cigarette again, pulling one last time before dropping it into a forgotten champagne flute.
“You should go. I’ve got an early morning tomorrow.”
Surprise and anger chase across his face, and she waits to see if he’ll follow through.
Clayton Poole was the heir of an ancient oil tycoon, and would be much more interesting if he would lose his temper every once in a while.
He was a fun fuck, always took care to get her off, and he opened doors even she couldn’t walk though. But he was boring as fuck when they weren’t naked.
“I’ll call you tomorrow,” he says, lamely, and she flick a look at him as she pours a glass of spumante.
“Don’t. I’ll call you soon.” She gives him a smile and kisses his cheek before returning to her bedroom.
She lets out a sigh when the door shuts behind him, and settles on her bed. It smells of sex still, but she’s too drunk and lazy just now to strip the sheets.
Besides, she likes the smell of sex, even if Clayton isn’t her favorite fuck buddy.
There is a joint in her bedside table and she fishes it out and lights it, pulling on it deeply as she thumbs through her social media.
The entire newsfeed is abuzz with the engagement party of the year, and she grits her teeth. She should have been there. Clayton had been invited—Charlie will be pissed he didn’t show, a thought that strings a smirk across her lips—and she could have crashed it. Nothing to be done once she was there.
Once upon a time, it would have been amusing just to get a rise from Charlie.
When the fuck had that changed? When she realized that Charlie was just as unhappy in their fucking perfect life as she was?
Or was it when Charlie blackmailed EJ into sharing her distribution, earning her respect as more than another empty headed social climber.
She huffs, and takes another pull on the joint. The smell of weed fill the bedroom, covering the scent of sex. Her muscles are loose and relaxed against the bed and she let’s her phone drop beside her, drifting on her high, drunk and post-orgasmic relaxation combining to pull her down into sleep.
The room is pitch black, her body hot and sweating against the rough duvet when she wakes. Her mouth is dry and for a disorienting moment, she wonders where the hell she is, and what happened.
Her phone buzzes against her thigh again, and she fumbles for it.
“Charlie?” she croaks, and swallows. Reaches for the spumante on the bedside table.
“I need you.”
The whisper from the other end of the line chills her, and she shudders, rubbing away the goosebumps that trace along her arms.
That’s it—those three words and nothing more.
Sleep is forgotten completely as she sits up and nods. “I’ll be right there.”

Announcement from Nazarea Andrews:

TWWE_Announc

Since RUIN OF THE WORLD released (actually since before that) I’ve been hearing over and over that people wanted more zombies.

But Ren and Finn’s story was over. They needed to be over.
Buuuuut.
There was a character. Two characters. And they were incredibly noisy.
And the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to know–what happened to Josiah and Park that led them to leave the Holdout? What shaped them? And–most importantly–what happened after they did?
So.
You guys are getting more zombies.
Let’s talk about what this means–
1. At the moment, I’m planning two books. The first will release next year (2016)
2. This is about Park and Josiah, they will be the POV characters.
3. Finn and Nurrin may show up, but I don’t promise that and they are not the main characters. Their story is still over.
4. I adore Siah and Park. So so much. I can’t wait to share them with you.

So that’s it!! My big news! I’ll be releasing teasers and whatnot about the boys in the next few months but until then. Add them on Goodreads and be excited–more zombies and snark is headed your way. ❤
