I looked down at her fitted white pants, covered in dirt marks. Even though she looked sexy as hell, I had to ask. “Why the hell does my mother insist on the staff wearing all white?”

“You’ll have to ask her, although I like to think of it as practice for my future nursing career.”

“I guess that’s one way to look at it. It kind of freaks me out. It’s like you’re all part of some cult.” I chuckled.

“I wonder what she’d do if I showed up in black. She’d shun me.” She snapped her fingers jokingly. “Oh wait…”

Except I wasn’t laughing now. I felt horrible that she knew exactly how my mother felt about her.

“I’m sorry she’s such a bitch, Raven.”

“It’s not your fault.” She looked out at the ocean, then promptly changed the subject. “You must be excited to go to Connecticut in the fall.”

“At this very moment, thanks to you, I’m in absolutely no rush to leave this spot, let alone Palm Beach.”

She blushed. “You’re funny.”

“You’re f*cking beautiful.” That just came out. “I’m sorry if that was too forward. But it’s true,” I said.

“No.” Her cheeks turned pink. “Thank you.”

“Do you have a boyfriend?”

She pushed some hair behind her ear. “No.”

“I want to take you out.”

She looked down at her empty cup. “I don’t think so.”

Ouch. “Can I ask why?”

“It’s not that I’m not interested, but…you’re leaving in the fall, so I’m not sure it makes sense to start anything up. Then there’s the bigger issue of your mother. I just don’t think it’s a good idea.”

“I get it.” I nodded. “I understand.”

Holy sh*t. I wasn’t used to rejection. I couldn’t remember the last time a girl had said no to me. I swear to God, my dick just stiffened. What was it about the chase that was so damn arousing? I had to find another way…

“Can we hang out as friends, then?”

She grinned skeptically. “Friends?”

“There’s this improv club near where you live. I wanted to go check it out this weekend. Would you want to go with me?”

“Venturing to the other side of the bridge, eh?” she teased. “What would Mother think?”

“Will you come with me, wiseass?”

“Seriously, what if your mom finds out?”

“She won’t. She doesn’t really question where I go. I’ll just tell her I’m going to meet a friend. And thanks to your rejection, that won’t be a lie, right?”

Raven blinked for a while before she finally answered, “Okay. Yeah.”

My heart sped up. “Yeah?”

It steps over the line for any Human Resources Department, oversteps employer/employee relationships, business protocol, and redefines friendly professional competition in a cut throat market.

Miller is forced to attend his sister’s destination wedding in Cancun. He doesn’t have time for the wedding let alone all of his family nonsense even though he loves them dearly. His mother is trying to set him up with the bridesmaids so he tells a little white lie and says he is bringing a plus one. Now he needs to find a date for the weekend. He gets his best friend to line one up for a price. At the last minute she backs out. He’s at the airport without a date and the plane for Cancun will be boarding soon. When he spots Claire, his superstar employee from the media advertising department, he devises a plan. He is going to make Claire his plus one.

Claire is finally taking her much needed vacation that “almost” didn’t happen because of her greedy bosses. Now her one of her bosses is trying to bribe her to be his weekend girlfriend at a wedding. At first she wants nothing to do with him until she realizes this is an opportunity to get more vacation time and an all expenses paid trip to Tuscany.

What starts out as a business transaction turns into a fun vacation hookup for both of them. Miller decides to spend the week with Claire in Cancun. Paradise doesn’t last forever and business butts it’s ugly head. Miller leaves Cancun and Claire without an explanation.

Claire is not only embarrassed and humiliated but she’s also mad. Her exotic beach vacation was ruined by her boss. She’s dreading returning to work but never imagined how bad it would be. While she was away on vacation she lost her account, her promotion, her job, and Miller. Nothing can fix this kind of humiliation and heartbreak.

What happens next is more than Miller doing a little groveling, it will take years for him to gain her forgiveness.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book because love wasn’t easy. Claire and Miller both had to work really hard for their professional lives and love lives. They had to learn things the hard way in order to fully appreciate their feelings for one another. There is a thin line between love and hate. Which side will they end up on? Read the book!

It’s never a question as to whetheror not I’ll love a book written by S.L. Scott. Whatever it is, whichever of her worlds she’s writing in, I’m in. Because Suzie writes from the heart, and it shows in every one of her books. Case in point, DARE – A ROCK STAR HERO, her latest release. The love that Suzie feels for her characters is apparent from the very first page, and that love made me fall in love, too.

What do I like best about Weatherly and Dare? There is somuch. Weatherly is rising up, getting ready to shrug off the things holding her back and make her mark. Meeting Dare Marquis just speeds the process, helping Weatherly see just what is important in this life. His love for her helps her to break free from the confines and plans that seem to be her birthright, and live life fully, like the bright spirited woman that she is.

Being with Weatherly, his Pepper, shows Dare that the barriers created by society are no stronger than we allow them to be. His love for her, and hers for him, allows him to step into the role that he is meant for, and to be free enough to stand up to the people that say he can’t.

Once I started this book, I could not put it down, and actually read it in one sitting. Yes, I’m a sucker for a rockstar love story, but there is much more to this story, to these characters, than that. I sincerely hope that Suzie has plans to give the other guys in the Heroes their own stories, because they are just begging to be told. DARE is riding high atop my favorites of 2019, and should most definitely be on your TBR pile. Suzie, you’ve got another winner on your hands. ❤️

Now Eddie, Smithie didn’t even want to think about it. The man was a cop. The shit Lee and his boys did with flair and a flagrant disregard to just about anything, Eddie could not do.
