details right. On the application, you describe your current boss as impatient,
aggressive, micromanaging, and somehow a social piranha.
Did I misread it? Is there a possibility that this was a
typo?
If you could please correct or expand on your description,
I’ll appreciate it. Mrs. Darlington explained our mission correctly. We always
find the most fitting assistant for your company. Even for social piranhas. We
have the right person for that. Our personnel is highly trained and holds at least
a bachelor degree.

We spent a lifetime chasing firefly dreams

“You did,” I whisper.

“Never. I never forgot, I promise you that.”

He pulls me closer, brushing his fingers against my shoulder. I shiver and then get embarrassed that he’s able to see how much he affects me. His eyes are locked on mine, pulling me in. His hands clutch either side of my face and he moves closer. My eyes shut just as his lips touch mine.

For a minute, I lose myself in him. He groans and deepens the kiss. I grab his hair and kiss him the way I’ve dreamed of kissing him for so long. It feels even better than I remembered. His soft lips and tongue make my heart fall into my feet. I haven’t kissed him like this since…

“You’re a liar.” The words are like velvet, and his face is set like stone.

“No, I’m not! Now go away from me!”

I shove his chest without forethought and then recoil as fear pounds through me.

“Tell me you don’t want me. C’mon, fucking tell me, Finley. Make it easy.”

“I want you, and I hate it. I hate you!”

“Tell me you don’t want my hands on you. My mouth right there.” His finger points to my throat. I can’t swallow. His hands run down my arms, the warm palms feather-light. His face is grave as all the universe.

I can say nothing. I’ve made unforgivable mistakes, so many errors in judgment. My foot is caught in moss I’ll never break free of…and still I crave him.

“I don’t want to want you,” I say, the words barely there.
