Synopsis

Audrey Valdez didn’t mean to fall for Will Anders. He isn’t her type. At all. But his goofy smile, Star Wars quotes and athletic body make it impossible. She’s lived so long in the darkness and Will is like the sun. He makes her laugh more than she has in years and cares for her more than her own family.

But there are things about Audrey that Will doesn’t know, things he can’t know. She tries to push him away, but he just ends up getting closer to her, and to her secret. Is the risk of losing him forever worth the chance a being with the only person she’s ever loved who has loved her back?

Excerpt

“Look, when you were with Zan, did I tell you what to do? No offense, Zan.”

“None taken,” he called over the splash of the dishes in the sink.

“Uh yeah, you did. You were always telling me to be careful and I know you beat him up that one time. Don’t even try to deny it.” There was no hiding anything from my sister. Mom might as well have named her Sherlock Holmes.

“Yes, but when you told me you were with him, I said I’d get over my own issues because he made you happy. So there.”

She rolled her eyes.

“Real mature, William.”

“Listen, I think I’m just going to go. I don’t need this right now.” I started to get up from the couch, but Lottie grabbed onto me and wouldn’t let go. She might be little, but she was strong.

“Lot, seriously.” But she wouldn’t release me from her clutches, and if I walked, I was taking her with me.

So I sat back down.

“You were the one talking about being mature, and you just did a really good barnacle imitation to get me to not leave.”

“Desperate times, Will. Desperate times.” Zan was making a lot of extra noise in the kitchen to give the illusion of privacy.

“What do you want me to do, Lot? I tried. I told her I loved her. That’s pretty much the best I can do.” Zan dropped a plate and it clunked in the sink.

“Sorry,” he called.

“I don’t know, Will. Win her over. Show her why she should be with you. Be your lovable charming self. You’ve never had any problems getting a girl before.” No, I hadn’t, but Audrey wasn’t just any girl. She was the girl.

“I can’t force her into a relationship with me if that’s not what she wants. I’m pretty sure that’s illegal.” Lottie waved her hand, brushing the legality aside.

“She does want to be with you, that’s the thing. She just has this crazy idea in her head that it won’t work out. You need to show her that you’re not giving up on the relationship, and thus not giving up on her, and maybe she’ll realize that and you two can live happily ever after, get married and have your honeymoon at Comic Con.” Lottie smiled with satisfaction. She just had everything figured out.

4 – Stars

Audrey Valdez and Will Anders have a complicated relationship. He likes her and she likes him, but Audrey has a secret, a secret that she believes will be the end of them.

There is a lot going on in this book. Besides the ever-changing relationship between Audrey and Will, there is the whole back story involving the ‘gang,’ the circle of friends and family that comprise their world. The interaction between Audrey, Will, and the rest of the ‘Family’ is both touching and entertaining. These kids really have each others’ backs, and it’s through the trust and support of each other that Audrey is eventually able to let Will in completely, and see the bright side of life.

The revelation of Audrey’s secret was a bit frustrating for me, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I felt like it was pretty easy to guess what the secret, or the basic gist of it, was, and secondly, it just took such a long time for it to come out. Once we got to see what had actually gone on in Audrey’s life to shape her view of herself, the story moved much more quickly and was more satisfying. That being said, though, I did really enjoy the interaction of all of the characters here, and the continuation of story lines that were introduced in the first two books of the series. And, as with other of Chelsea Cameron’s books, the innate humor really is a plus, and fleshes out the characters and makes them seem that much more real. All in all, this was a good solid read for me, and I recommend it if you’re looking for a sweet, yet sexy, book.

THIS WICKED RUSH (Wild Rush Book 1)

“You know what I like, Caitlin. You know I want you to beg for it.”

Gabe

I’ve never been the kind of person to give up on something I want. Now, I refuse to take no for an answer. I want this girl. I want to help her, and sleep with her, and steal things with her, and make her laugh the way she did right that night in her friend’s car. We’re going to have a summer neither of us will ever forget, and by the time we go our separate ways, she’ll have enough money to go to college, and I will have had her…every way I want her.

Caitlin

I’m starting to forget why it’s a bad idea to get in any deeper with a boy who is a walking, talking contradiction. A boy who has a taste for breaking the law, a wicked way with words, and a confident touch that leaves no doubt he’s way more experienced than I am. I’ve spent my life putting aside my own needs and cleaning up after other people’s mistakes. Now, I want to make a mistake of my own.

I know I’m playing with fire, but for Gabe I’m willing to beg to be burned.

THIS WICKED RUSH is an edgy, sexy, boundary-pushing read intended for readers over the age of seventeen. The book features graphic love scenes, violence, strong language, and thieves in love. Read at your own risk.

A steamy, high-octane love story that will have you wondering how far you’d go if you stopped playing by the rules. And may even make you want to step over the lines.” –New York Times Bestselling Author, Lauren Blakely

Tracey’s Review

Caitlin Cooney’s life has changed dramatically. Gabe Alexander has opened her eyes to a completely different world the night that they spent together at the beginning of the summer. Making her his accomplice in his quest to right wrongs in their South Carolina town, and drawing her into the explosive chemistry between them, he has awakened her and left her dissatisfied with the life that she has been living up to this point.

‘This Wicked Rush’ picks up just a couple of weeks after Caitlin’s and Gabe’s adventure in ‘One Wild Night.’ Caitlin just wants to get back to her normal life, working and taking care of her family. She is determined that there not be a repeat of what happened between them, but finds herself more and more deeply drawn to Gabe. And when Gabe sweetens the deal, making it impossible for her to say no to him, she agrees to be with him just for the summer.

Gabe knows just how to get Caitlin to agree to spend time with him, but is hiding a big secret from her. He didn’t count on coming to care for her as deeply as he does, and, as the summer progresses, he faces some hard choices where she is concerned.

Jessie Evans is great at character development. Caitlin is sassy and independent, having had to handle some very tough things in her young life, and Gabe is just delicious. He is smart and hot, and goes from simply wanting Caitlin to wanting to give her everything. The chemistry between Caitlin and Gabe is super-hot; they start out being very attracted to each other, but the attraction quickly deepens to much more as the story progresses. ‘This Wicked Rush’ made me think of a sort of take on ‘Robin Hood,’ with a whole lot of hot and sexy scenes. The story does end on a cliff-hanger, but not in an abrupt way. Jessie has done a good job of bringing everything together and setting us up for the continuation of Caitlin’s and Gabe’s journey in the next book, and I can’t wait to see where they go.

One Wild Night (Wild Rush prequel)

One night can change your life…

“Come on, Caitlin, let me help you get what you need.”

The way he says it, it’s about so much more than money. It’s about the way he makes my skin hot and my lips tingle, it’s about the way he makes my heart race and banishes the exhaustion that’s been my constant companion since I quit school to be a full-time surrogate parent. It’s about the flicker of hope he lights inside me. That flame isn’t much bigger than a candle right now, but I can sense how easy it would be for it to grow, to rise higher and higher until it sets my world on fire.

I’m standing at the threshold of a moment that will change my life, and not necessarily for the better. I know that, I know it with everything in me, all the way down to the marrow of my bones.

But still I nod. And take his hand. And let him lead me out into the night.

Fans of Lauren Blakely and Jasinda Wilder will love the edgy, sexy, boundary-pushing Wild

Rush series.

Tracey’s Review

Caitlin Cooney is up to her neck in responsibility. Left to care for her siblings and niece due to the irresponsibility of her parents and sister, she has her hands full. Forced to give up her chance at a better life, she is doing the best she can to keep her family together. Gabe Alexander has it all. Rich, good-looking, and smart, he can have anything that he wants. And what he wants is Caitlin…

Caitlin has had to work hard for everything in her life. When her parents and sister left, she was forced to decide between an education that would provide her with an opportunity to move beyond her circumstances and keeping her family together. Weighed down by the responsibility that she feels to provide for her ‘kids,’ she just wants the chance to get away from everything for one night and spend time being an average twenty-year-old girl. While out with her friend, she runs into Gabe, a former classmate. Caitlin and Gabe have little in common, but are completely drawn to each other. Tempted by his offer of a way to an easier life, Caitlin finds herself doing things that she would never have thought she would do. For his part, Gabe wants more time to get to know Caitlin, to have her in his life, and to take her along as he rights wrongs in their hometown.

Jessie Evans is a go-to author for me. I have not read one book of hers that did not thoroughly draw me in and leave me completely satisfied. ‘One Wild Night,’ while short, is the perfect set-up as the prequel in the ‘Wild Rush’ series. I am eager to see how the story of Caitlin and Gabe continues to unfold as the series progresses.

About the Author

Jessie Evans gave up a career as an international woman of mystery to write the sassy, Southern romances, and sexy, New Adult romances she loves to read.

She’s married to the man of her dreams, and together they’re raising a few adorable, mischievous children in a tree house in the boonies. She grew up in rural Arkansas, spending summers running wild, being chewed by chiggers, and now appreciates her home in a chigger-free part of the world even more.

When she’s not writing, Jessie enjoys playing her dulcimer (badly), sewing the worlds ugliest quilts to give to her friends, going for bike rides with her house full of boys, and wandering the woods, glass of wine and camera in hand, on the lookout for Bigfoot.

EXCERPT:

“Don’t take this the wrong way, but my place or yours?”

He got a twinkle in his eyes. “What way would I take that, Casey?”

I shut my eyes tight. I wasn’t supposed to get that shiver when he said my name. Not after what Nelly told me. Not after Jared. Not after finding out the truth. But I did. I reluctantly opened my eyes again.

“Let’s go with mine. It’s more spacious.” His eyes studied me, waiting for my reaction.

We had memories at his place. Recent memories I’d been trying to forget.

“All right.” I tore my eyes from his face. He’d gotten a far off look, and I knew he was thinking about the first kiss. The one that felt more like perfection than any other kiss before or since.

4-Stars

Casey’s life is changing, and fast. Having learned, in a not-so-friendly fashion, that she’s a Pteron, she is having to adapt to a completely new existence. Life as she knew it, well, isn’t. Luckily, she has Toby to help her navigate things in her new-found world.

As a Pteron, Casey is able to do things that most people would not believe. Learning that that she can fly is excitement enough; finding that she is the daughter of the ruling family of the Society just adds to the drama. Still smarting from her encounter with Jared, head of security for the Society, she reconnects with Toby, another Pteron, who has been interested in more than friendship with her for quite a while. With his help, Casey is readily embraced by the Laurents, and drawn into the Pteron society. But experience has taught Casey that nothing is simple in this world, and danger is lurking close by.

I am a fan of paranormal romance, but was not quite sure what to expect from this book, as I was not familiar with this series. I was pleasantly surprised with the story, and quickly grew to like Casey, Toby, and the supporting cast of characters that Alyssa Rose Ivy has created. This is the second book in the Empire Chronicles, and does end on a bit of a cliffhanger. It will be exciting to see what happens next.
