And, after all, he’d already proved his mettle by showing his, erm, assets in MB, so, yeah, color me a fan.

Whereas MB was a quirky, lighthearted romp of a story, there’s a little bit of a darker edge to SPECTACULAR RASCAL. Because, wise guys. And there is no better guy for the job of freeing Cat from the clutches of her crazy ex than Aidan. He’s invested in all the best ways, caring, loyal, and smart, and, yeah, sexy as all get-out.

Cat is just as badass as Aidan in her own way. She’s definitely got baggage, but has managed to rise above it. She can more than hold her own, and is the perfect foil for Aidan. Reading the letters exchanged between Cat and Aidan back in their college days had me laughing out loud (I mean, really, how could I not love banter between people nicknamed Curved For Her Pleasure and Polka Dot Panties?!), and it is clear even then that these two would find their way back to each other.

Lili has managed to win me over yet again (no surprise, really) with this book. Besides the swoony Aidan and kickass Cat, seeing Bash and Penny again, along with Shane, Aidan’s folks, and the inestimable Fifi, SPECTACULAR RASCAL is a story that goes right up there on my list of favorites. 5+ sweet, sassy, spectacular stars for this one. Ya done good, lady.

Reagan has earned the title of uptight ice queen, but, beneath it all, she’s just trying to do the right thing. All she wants is to earn the seat in Senate on her own steam, without the shadow of her father and his legacy. When Jude enters her orbit, she’s thrown for a loop, knocked off kilter by the passion that flares whenever they are near each other. Brenda and Chelle have really outdone themselves with DIRTY WORK. Full of passion, political intrigue, and witty sexy banter, this is a book that I could not put down. Then, out of nowhere:

“You looked beautiful tonight, by the way.”

Oh jeez. Be still my fucking heart.

I try and swallow, his words, the sincerity in his voice rocking my world off-balance. “Which part? When the power went out or when Jacob went upstairs to fight a demon?” I joke. But I joke because I’m feeling this a little too much.

“All of it. You know why I call you Princess?” he asks, his tone graver than before, like he’s letting me in on a very deep secret.

“Because I’m a spoiled brat?”

“Because you’re beautiful.”

Well that shut me up. The sentence hangs in the air, larger than life.

He clears his throat and goes on and I have to fight against the urge to roll over and face him. “You have this way about you. You don’t see it. But I do. Like you’re born royalty. The way you hold yourself. Your walk. The face of an angel.”

Butterflies take flight in my gut, spreading through my veins until my whole body feels like its floating. “Why are you being so nice to me? Am I going to die?”

A: No. The main character is 18 and there is sex, crude language and violence in the book. It is recommended for mature teens or 18 and up.

Q: Is there a cliffhanger?

A: Nope! There’s also no cheating and no love triangle (think I’ve covered the bases there!)

Q: Do I need to read the series (Experiment in Terror) that Veiled is a spinoff of first?

A: Absolutely not. Veiled stands alone. You do not need to have read the EIT series beforehand as this follows a different character (Ada Palomino) and a different storyline. However for those who have read EIT, all your favorites are in the book!

Q: Is it horror? Your other series was and I don’t handle scary very well…

A: No, it’s paranormal romance (though I promise you there are no vampires or werewolves), and while there are creepy elements to the story, it wouldn’t be classified as horror. If you can read KMM’s Fever Series or ANY urban fantasy, you’ll be fine.

Tracey’s Review

There isn’t a book that Marie has written that I do not love. I always picture Marie’s series like a big Tree of Life, with branches going out everywhere from a solid trunk/foundation. The McCarthys, the Harringtons the Abbotts, Nick Capuano and Sam Holland, Marie’s books are always full of family, of a thread that runs throughout and connects everything in a beautiful way.

Okay, so, yes, FATAL IDENTITY is the tenth book in the Fatal series by Marie Force. And, no, I haven’t read any of the previous books in the series. Should I have? Of course, because it’s Marie Force. But, it’s Marie Freaking Force, and I don’t care how many books have come before, if it’s hers, and I have the chance, I’m reading it! Phew, okay, onward…

Life for Sam and Nick is far from boring. With Nick busy as the recently elected vice-president of the United States, Sam is surrounded by more security than even she is used to. When she is approached by the son of a prominent politico with a story sure to blow things wide open, even a suspension won’t keep Sam from solving the case.

I absolutely devoured FATAL IDENTITY. It’s a page-turner for sure, and I could not put it down. I was completely engaged by both the story and the characters, and, even though I have not read the prior books in the series, it didn’t take me long to catch up at all.

Sam is a go-getter, and a strong woman. She is not afraid to speak her mind, to step on toes, if need be, and she leads her team like a pro. That she commands such respect on her own merits, and not because she’s married to the VP, says a lot about her abilities. Her relationship with Nick, their son, Scotty, and the rest of her family is warm and real, even given her new role.

Marie has done a great job with the plot in FATAL IDENTITY, and, while I had inklings, I really was guessing up until the end. Action, intrigue, danger, all of these elements worked together to make this book one that I would happily recommend. I can’t wait to see what Marie has in store for Sam, Nick, and the crew for their next adventure. 5 sexy, feisty, edge of your seat stars for this one. Now, excuse me while I go back and start at Book 1…

Michel’s Review

Melody Of Truth is the first book I have read by Nicole Simone.  I thoroughly enjoyed the book and was impressed with the originality in a rock star romance.  Not only was the rockstar, Sean Dallis, quite different from most rockers, his love interest, Melody Carmichael was a strong, capable woman forging her own path.

Melody is an award winning documentary filmmaker.  She has seen the underbelly of the world and witnessed horrific injustices within the world.  Her career choice was a result of her mother’s death when she was a teenager.  The camera was her therapy and the need to “do something” that will help others or change lives was a healing component.  She’s getting married soon and ready to slow down her career.  She’s taking a leave of absence after she finishes this final documentary on the Matthew Lee Band.  She didn’t count on Sean Dallis being a down to earth, caring individual who lives by his code.  She didn’t count on falling head over heels in love.  She has set her path, her fiancé needs her and a small child is counting on her to save his life.

Sean Dallis is getting over a difficult divorce.  He’s not ready for any relationship.  When he meets Melody Carmichael, he’s singing a new tune.

Melody and Sean were meant for each other.  It may not be in their stars but destiny has a way of interfering.

I thoroughly enjoyed Melody Of Truth.  I look forward to reading more from Nicole Simone.
