Kristyn’s Review

Alexa Sharpe is a realtor. She is competitive and can’t turn down a bet. Maverick drives her crazy. He calls her Sexy Lexi (she doesn’t really mind…) and is constantly challenging her and hitting on her.
Maverick Ryder is a sexy firefighter always seen around town with different women. It’s no secret that Maverick likes women, but what Lexi doesn’t know is that he’s just been searching for the right woman, and he’s pretty sure she’s it.
Steal My Heart is a lovely romance about a man and woman who have chemistry but are reluctant to explore it. Lexi has a few misconceptions about Maverick and he hasn’t tried to correct her, but once he decides to go after the woman he wants, all bets are off.
The relationship in this book is sweet and a little steamy. This book is a great light read, with a little bit of mystery and suspense. This book is best read in conjunction with the other books in the series because then you can see the full range of all of the relationships. This book is short but well paced and I never lost interest. I look forward to seeing what else happens in the next book in this series.

Alexa Sharpe balanced a cardboard box on one hip while she tugged at the hem of her t-shirt with her free hand for at least the millionth time in the last twenty minutes, only to expose the tops of her breasts in the process. Never mind that the unforgiving cotton hugged her body like a second skin, one more good tug and she’d all but fall out.

She exhaled a hard breath as she practically stomped across the dirt, headed for the dugout. She knew better than to make a bet with the devil, but those hypnotizing chocolate-dipped gaze and cocky grin had sucked her in. Again. And honestly, when he’d poked her with his silver-tongued pitchfork, pleasure flooded her lust-filled brain and dared her to spoil the fun.

Unable to help herself, she pulled on the garment again, still convinced this was some sort of joke. No one played baseball in clothing this tight. No one in their right mind, anyway. And certainly not her.

Determined to remedy the situation, she took a deep calming breath, and approached the dugout, prepared to negotiate.

“Hey, Sexy Lexi.”

She shifted the box on her hip and glared at the man who appeared to appreciate the scenery. “Maverick.”

He lifted his gaze and grinned. “The girls are looking good this morning.”

“Obviously you ordered me the wrong size.”

“You told me to order a small.”

“This is not a small.”

“Yes, it is. Check the tag.”

“Did you wash it first?”

“No.”

“Then I’m sure it’s a child’s size small.”

He released a hearty laugh. “Don’t be a sore loser just because you couldn’t get your fine little ass up and over that wall.”

As badly as she wanted to argue, he had a valid point. They had made an honest wager a month ago; she bet him that she could climb the endurance wall faster than he, and she didn’t. In fact, he had to boost her over the top. She’d always admired Maverick Ryder’s physique, she just didn’t realize how hard it was to carve it. And at least his t-shirt hugged his bulging muscles as well.

“Fine,” she mumbled as she glanced around the field. “Where are the boys?”

He frowned. “What boys?”

“Your baseball team,” she drawled.

He gave her a grin that made her want to yank that pesky top over her head and press the girls to his hard chest. “I don’t coach boys or baseball.”

“Really? Then why do you need a bat girl and why am I here?”

“The Seaside Seagulls are an eight-year-old girls’ softball team.  Think you can handle it?”

“Piece of cake.”

“Good, because you’re on.” He gestured with his head across the field where several little girls walked toward them.

Lexi rolled her eyes at his lack of confidence. She was a girl, for Pete’s sake, of course she could entertain his female team.

Unless there was something else Maverick failed to mention.

Lexi stood at the edge of the park and gazed at the tall, wooden structure that had been erected in the last several hours. From her observation, it appeared to be a wall with ropes attached in four places on top that hung down to the bottom. Was someone going to climb it?

“Hey, Sexy Lexi.”

She squeezed closed her eyes, cursing her curiosity. If she’d just unloaded the bottled water like Vanessa asked, she could’ve been gone by now, avoiding a confrontation with the voice behind her.

She squared her shoulders and turned around. “Good morning, Maverick.”

“Did you come to climb the wall?”

So, she was right about the purpose. “No. Vanessa asked me to drop off a case of drinking water for the crew. What exactly are you guys doing out here?”

“Endurance training. Once a year, we build an obstacle course and compete for the best time.”

“The wall doesn’t look too difficult.”

“Really?” He folded his arms across his chest. “The wall is only one part of the test. Do you think you can climb it faster than I can?”

“Maybe. I’m a lot smaller.”

“Let’s bet on it.”

Lexi answered with a groan.

“You give?”

“No, I’m just not sure about making any kind of wager with you.”

“Why?”

“Because you cheat.”

“I don’t cheat.”

“Okay, so maybe not. But you have a way of changing the game once we start.”

“Only because you let me.”

“I do not! Fine, I’ll take your bet. What do I get when I win?”

“If you win, I’ll retire your nickname.”

“Oh.” Her sudden feeling of disappointment confused her. Why did that possibility not thrill her? Maverick had called her Sexy Lexi since the day they’d met and yes, it annoyed her – at first. Now, however, not so much. “Really?”

“Really. But if I win, you become the official bat girl for the Seaside Seagulls. I’ll even order you a uniform.”

She had absolutely no idea what being a bat girl entailed, but that didn’t really matter. She would win the bet with Maverick – even if she had to use creative measures to do it.

“You’re on.”

“You are.” He shook his head as if searching for the words to explain his attraction to her. “That first night, swear to everything holy, I thought you might be some mythical creature come to steal my soul. But you were so damn beautiful that I would have given it to you.”
She kept quiet, afraid to move or speak and risk breaking the magic that kept him with her, kept him from running. He wasn’t running. He was opening up and being honest.
Dean lowered himself into the bed beside her, propping on one elbow and facing her. Fate mirrored his position and admired the way the moonlight lit his handsome face.
“I asked the universe for a sign. It sent me you.”

Kelley’s Review

This is a book that you pick up and can’t put down until it’s over and even then you are wishing there were just a few more pages.

Dean would have never thought in a million years that the woman he found running down the beach would memorize him for months to come.   She was absolutely stunning and almost angelic.  She wanted Dean not for who he was or for the money he had, she just wanted the man and he wanted to know more about her. Dean wondered when it was all over if it was just a dream.  He had her in his arms one moment and in the next she was gone.

Fate was so furious.  She had changed her life for Trevor.  She had molded herself into everything he could have ever wanted. She picked the wedding dress he liked, the cake he liked.  Everything was about making Trevor happy.  She even drank red wine because he insisted on ordering it for her.  She hated it.  The only thing she held onto was her virginity.  She wanted their wedding night to be special.  A night to remember.  She ever expected that the night before her wedding would be the one she would never forget.  When she found her maid of honor in the wine celler with her fiance she snapped.  She asked for a sign and then ran smack dab into Dean.  He was gorgeous and sexy and she needed to forget Trevor and do something spontaneous and crazy and so she decided a one stop roll in the sand might be what she needs.

Casiey does an excellent job brining two broken people together that were never meant to be.  Dean has watched his father go through women like tissues and is not interested in settling down anytime soon.  Fate is fighting what she feels for Dean because she saw how her mother went through men and then there was the whole Trevor thing.  Some how Casiey has them facing their demons and grabbing on to something real.

I adored this read.  I was sucked in by the pre-quel novella.  If you want a read that you can’t put down that is filled with forbidden love and smoking hot chemistry then you will love Falling For Fate.

Kelley’s Review

Sinfully dark and delicious.  I loved every angsty moment.

For those of you that have read Jennifer’s books, there is always a little bit of magic in the background so it really did not surprise me that she would take a dip into the paranormal romance genre.  I am really glad she did because this novella is not only an excellent read, but it is very different from other paranormal romances. The storyline is very original and Dante’s secret powers are not like any that I have ever read about before.  If you want something new and unique to read this weekend, this is it.

Dante is forced to hide in the shadows day and night because of who he is.  Jennifer does a nice spin on Superman’s Clark Kent as Dante works in the mail room at Stark Enterprises which he owns as Daniel Stark.  He has been smitten with Selina Rogers for years but has never let himself think about exploring more because of who he is.  She is kind, generous, and self-less and is a bit of a loner like himself.  She keeps to herself and no one really knows anything about her family or where she came from.  She is quite the mystery to him.

Selina is focused on her career.  She has worked really hard to get where she is and needed to focus on her goals so she kept people away.  She did not want any distractions.  The sexy man who delivers her mail has her all tied up in knots.  Daniel knows her better than anyone else and over the past few years they have become good friends.  But seriously, a rendezvous with the mail boy would jeopardize her standing and she has worked to hard to get where she is so she can only admire from afar.

Until..

One night when Selina is attacked and Dante comes to her rescue. He looks familiar but not.  Once Dante gains Selina’s trust can he reveal who he really is or will it ruin everything he has tried to make right.

“Shooter, again, I can’t take your car.”

“Look, your car, we gotta order parts, I told you that already. Those take a few days to get in. I can’t leave you with no way to get to Axel, your mom, and to work.”

“Tessie, don’t be stubborn. We don’t even know what your car will cost to repair. Take the Challenger.”

“Why are you so willing to help me?” Tessie asks me.

“Call me selfish. If you don’t have a car, you can’t get to work, and then who would serve me a beer?” I ask in mock innocence.

“Corinne will happily serve you, Shooter.”

“Ha. Got jokes do ya? Corinne will happily serve up more than just drinks. Tessie, I’m just tryin’ to be a friend here.”

“I would hardly call us friends.” Her face set in stone, not giving anything away. She’s tough, but there is a sadness deep in those brown eyes that pulls at me.

“We could be,” I state watching for her to give me some sort of clue or opening. Yet, she gives away nothing. “Take the car, Tessie.”

“I don’t need any new friends, Shooter. Keep your car. Thanks for stopping by. I’ll get my car sorted. I’m no trouble of yours.”

“Come on, Tessie. Look, I get it, you haven’t had it easy. Neither have I, but I have an opportunity to help you and I want to take it. No strings, no favors, no debts, no markers, just me paying it forward so to speak.”

When she doesn’t reply or change her stance, I throw out the big guns so to speak. “Okay, I’ll call Rex and have him arrange for your transportation.” I begin to step backwards, making my exit.

“Wait! You wouldn’t really involve Rex would you?”

“If you don’t take the car, yes, I will. Tessie, you’re part of the Hellions family in a way. None of us want to see you struggle. Take the car.”

“You won’t call Rex if I take the car?” She questions as I watch the determination flash in her face. For whatever reason she does not want to rely on my brother.

“If you take the car and agree to have dinner with me,” I add totally knowing I’m pushing my luck here.

“Shooter!” She cries out in frustration, losing some of her firm resolve to keep me shut out.

“What? I want us to be friends, that’s all. Seriously, I’m a man with far too much bad history to bring a woman along for my ride. I want to get to know you as a friend. I get the feeling you could use a friend right now and just that.”

“I’ll take the car, but only until my car is fixed. Things are complicated for me. I can’t accept your dinner invitation. To be honest, it’s not in your best interest to be my friend.”

My buddy, Nathan ‘Boomer’ Vaughn pulls into Tessie’s driveway. Handing her the keys to the Challenger, I smile.

“Baby, I’ve never been one to do anything that’s in my best interest. We’ll have dinner one night, Tessie. Mark my words.” At that final statement, I walk away.

“Doesn’t sound like you have that much time for yourself. What do you do for fun?”

She got up to grab them another two beers from the kitchen. “Honestly, I’m a homebody. Never got into the nightlife scene here. Plus, by the time I was twenty-one, I was basically babysitting Skylar all day every weekend, and nearly all my weeknights. Since that pretty much carried on clear until last year, I guess my idea of fun is hanging out with her. Lame, I know.”

He felt like he was talking to a martian. He hadn’t realized she’d spent even more time babysitting Skylar than he had. And he knew for a fact—from Brian’s complaints about it—that she hadn’t taken a single cent from them for babysitting.

For God’s sakes, she was just so nice.

“So you don’t do anything just for yourself? Just for fun?”

“Well, I have been privately executing my mission to learn how to cook the most beloved dishes from every country in the world,” she returned with a smile. “That’s fun.”

It was possible baby bluebirds helped her get dressed in the morning.

She was just that sweet.

“You’re driving me crazy.” He swept an arm around her waist and lifted her right up onto his lap.

“Connor!”

He slid a hand into her hair, rubbed a thumb over her heated cheekbone as he brought his lips to within inches of hers. “I shouldn’t want you this much. His arms locked around her, instinctively staking a claim on her. Mine.

The two words were his only anchor keeping him in the reality he maintained for himself. He had to be brutally honest with her, with them both. “I meant what I said earlier, Abby. That was easy. “I’d tell you to try something new. Something that excites you. Something that’ll take you from zero to sixty just as fast as it could take you back to zero whenever you were ready to return.”

“Something wild and fast…” She loosened her death grip on his shoulders, slid her hands down his back slowly. “That’s good advice.”

He saw her gaze travel down to his lips and it took everything he had not to kiss her right then and there.

“So, Cade tells me you know each other. How did you meet Katie?”

“Well, I met him a few weeks ago at his show here in LA. I had never been before. I’ve always been a fan and I couldn’t miss a chance to see them live.” I was floored. “That’s true. She was at my show. She came backstage and hung out with the guys for a while too. But what she isn’t saying is that we had no idea she was such a big deal. I asked about what she does and she said she was an actress. Those are a dime a dozen in LA so I just assumed she was doing commercials or something. So imagine my surprise when I turn on my TV and there she is. She’s a huge star.” Cade laughed ruefully.

This was blowing my mind. Cade was impressed by me? I really thought he’d think my work was a joke. Hell, I think my work is a joke.

“You really had no idea?” Fallon asked. “She has a billboard in New York you know. It’s huge. I have a picture actually.” On the screen in front of us, the picture appeared.

Ugh. Really? How embarrassing.

“Holy Shit. How did I not know who you were?” Cade asked me while looking at the picture.

“It’s not a big deal.” I said trying to convince someone, anyone.

“Looks pretty big to me.” Fallon deadpanned.

I put my hand over my face and laughed.

“Let’s talk about Cade now. He’s done tours and magazine covers and stuff. Let’s not talk about my hugely embarrassing billboard.” I begged.

“Hey, we talked about me earlier. It’s your turn.” Cade said with a grin.

Damn he’s hot. I want to lick his face.

“Let’s talk about your upcoming projects Katie. We know about your movie Mother Knows Best. What else is in the works for you?” Jimmy asked

“I’m looking into a few things now. I got a few scripts I’m going over. I have a few offers but I’m looking to branch out with my next project. Maybe something out of my comfort zone. I want a challenge.” I told him.

That was my big moment. Now the world knew my plans. Before my parents too. This whole day was going to cause me a lot of problems.

“That’s interesting. I had the author of Damaged, Sarah Billings, here yesterday. They’ve optioned off her book to be made into a movie soon. I asked her who she envisioned as her leading lady. She said she would love to have you play Lilly Wright. It’s a little sexier than what you normally do. Would you consider doing something like this?” Jimmy asked.

I was surprised. I hadn’t heard anything about the project. But I had read the book. It appealed to my darker, kinkier side. I would love to do something just like that.

“Wow! Really? I am blown away. I had no idea. I am incredibly honored that she mentioned me. I have to say, a movie like that is really appealing. You never know what I could do next.” I replied.

Suddenly I was giddy with excitement. That was exactly the opportunity I was looking for.

I was pulled away from my thoughts by Cade’s sexy voice. How I forgot he was there I have no idea. He had been quietly observing our conversation.

“I would love to see you do something like that Kat. I bet you’d be great.” He smiled at me.

I felt butterflies flit through my stomach. This guy was too much. Suddenly I was overwhelmed by his presence next to me. The spicy scent of him. It wasn’t cologne. It was too subtle. And utterly enticing.

“Maybe you should play Jackson, the alpha male love interest, Cade. I could see it. You’ve both got chemistry. You look good together. I’d go see it. Maybe I could even get paid for putting it all together.” Fallon laughed.

I laughed too, imagining Cade acting like a millionaire businessman. He had the power and presence but he wasn’t quite right for that role.

“I’m not sure I could pull that one off. I don’t think anyone would want to see a movie I was in.” Cade protested.

“Are you kidding? I’d watch it. Especially if you took your shirt off. I’ve seen that Rolling Stone cover you did. It was pretty hot.” I said eyeing him. “I bet America would love it too. What do you think?” I said looking out at the audience and grinning when the women present went wild.

“What about me? I look alright with my shirt off.” Fallon joked.

“Sure. We can come up with our own screenplay. We can call it Deranged.” Cade quipped.

Megan is perfectly content to take pictures of half-naked, sexy firemen because she has no intention of ever dating one. She lost her father years ago when he was fighting a fire and refuses to ever get involved with a fireman. Her mother was destroyed when her father died.

Becker moved to Hidden Oaks to escape his past and start anew. He is not looking for a relationship because his last one ended so badly. As Fire Captain he finds that women want him based on that alone. He could have his choice of lady of the week so why settle.
