Jordan Spagnato Series-Book 1

By H.J. Harley

Synopsis

A widow of eight years, Jordie is devoted to her daughter and knows how to protect her own heart… until Nathan Harper lends a hand when she’s punched by a drunkard being forcefully removed from her NYC East Village bar.

Nathan is fascinated by the sassy bar owner, who doesn’t recognize him from the Silver Screen and who appears more interested in conversation than sex.

But when shared words spark mutual passion, the menacing phone calls begin, and a stalker, who will stop at nothing to have Jordie, turns his crosshairs on Nathan.

“Fuck!” I blurted out as I reached my steps. Nathan was perched there halfway up and, my Lord, he was looking fine.

“Is that a statement or a request?” He grinned mischievously at me, a grin that touched those amazing blue eyes.

Oh shit, he’s here … on my front porch. My heart slammed into my throat and I was pretty sure I had lost the ability to form a coherent sentence.

“Hi?” was all I could manage to say. What was he doing here at three A.M.?

“I wanted to make sure you made it home safely,” he said, as if answering my silent question.

“Nut. Job,” I mouthed slowly to him.

He laughed, unveiling that beautiful, perfect, white-toothed smile that made his eyes even brighter. Then it happened. With that one smile, I surrendered to whatever it was inside of me I was fighting. I could no longer worry about how this story would end when all I wanted to do was start it. I walked past him. “Want to come up for a beer or something?” I unlocked the door and waited for the impact of the rejection.

“Or something.”

I could hear the smirk in his tone.

“Is that a statement or a request?” Ugh, what are you doing? Is this flirting? I silently sighed. Rachel had never been more correct — it had been too long. “Lock the door behind you, please.” I started the two-flight journey to my apartment. We reached my door, and I took a deep breath while I unlocked it. We walked in and I tossed my crap on the table as usual. He closed the door, and I heard the click of the lock.

“Want some breakfast?” I asked him, walking past the large sectional in my living room into the kitchen. Nathan followed but stopped in the dining room and took a quick glance around my place as he leaned against the wall.

“Assuming I will be here for breakfast?” he asked in a sultry voice full of humor. Flushed, I popped my head out from behind the fridge door. “Smart ass, I meant now. I’m starving. Yes or no?”

“Sure.” He got dimples when he smiled.

“Can you make some coffee?” I pointed to the pantry closet door.

“Yes, ma’am.” He stepped into the pantry. “Pop Tarts? You eat Pop Tarts?” His muffled words became clearer as he walked out, holding coffee in one hand and a box of Pop Tarts in the other. He closed the door with his foot.

“I enjoy a good Pop Tart.” I pouted, crinkling my eyebrows.

“Seriously? Strawberry? I thought you said you enjoyed a good Pop Tart.” He eyed me suspiciously.

“Shut up — it’s the sprinkles. They make me happy.” I quickly looked back down to the pan, trying not to stare at his amazing blue eyes.

“Do you know what these are made of?” He sounded appalled, as if I were eating a cockroach instead of an artificial pastry.

“No, please enlighten me.” I noticed my cheeks hurt because I had been smiling for the past five minutes.

“All right, sassy pants, I will.” He was attempting to be serious, but began to laugh while he poured water into the coffee maker.

“C’mon educate me, I need a good schooling, and have you ever made coffee before?” I playfully grabbed the coffee from his hands, swiftly dumped four scoops into the top of the machine, closed the lid, and pressed the start button.

“Impressive.” He hopped onto the counter holding the box of Pop Tarts again, watching me. “It’s a sugar coma is what it is. I can’t explain it. I just know anything that has a shelf life of fourteen years and is still edible after a nuclear winter can’t be good for you.” He held his head high and tightened his lips as if he was triumphant in convincing me.

I stared blankly at him, trying my damnedest not to laugh, but the corners of my mouth betrayed me as they tightened. We both burst out in laughter.

“Really? That’s all you got?” I snatched the box from his hands and put it back on the counter. “Like I said, it’s all about the sprinkles, so if there is in fact a nuclear winter, at least I’ll be happy.” I tossed him a loaf of bread.

“Can you make toast?”

“Can I make toast?” He hopped off the counter. “Of course I can make
toast.”

When I turned to look at him he was standing at the toaster with a confused look on his face.

“You’re kidding me, right?”

My mouth popped open wide in shock and he laughed.

“Gotcha.” He winked, pushing down the lever.

Oh my, no no no. I won’t survive this night if he keeps shit like that up.

Author Bio:

H.J. HarleyI grew up in Bricktown New Jersey, less than an hour away from New York City. As a teenager and my early twenties, I loved hanging out in the glamor of NYC. I was a “City Brat” so it was pretty hard for me when I packed up all my crap and three cats in 2005, for a life changing road trip and moved to California. I travelled around the country until I met my other half in 2005.

After serving twelve years in the Air Force, the man of my dreams ended his military career and we moved to Georgia six years ago. Since then, we’ve settled down in Leesburg GA, and had our first child.

No place has ever come close to replacing the magic of New York City in my mind. So when I decided to try this romance writing gig out, naturally I set my first book, ‘Finding Jordie’ there.

I enjoy reading, and spending  time with my family. Reality shows are my guilty pleasure. I’m a sucker for romantic comedies and Robert Pattinson. I am a pro at goofing off, I talk with my hands, (I’m Italian!)  I drink way too much coffee, and get too little sleep. Oh, and I have a thing for Jackie-O sized sunglasses. I have four furry kids and most importantly, I have a beautiful daughter. I’m always striving to be the best Mom possible.

I’m very passionate about the things I love, that’s why I was outraged when they cancelled SMASH and Southland! It should be considered to be a small miracle if you ever get to see a serious or pic of me posing all nice and pretty…yeah, I’m not that girl. I’m a spontaneous goof and believe the best things in life come naturally. Yes, that includes random no make-up selfies during a 2:00a.m. writing marathon.

SWEET TO YOU

Fire and Icing Book Three

“You up for a little adventure?” Jamison asked.

Maddie pressed her lips together, trying to discern whether the racing of her heart was a sign of dread or excitement. “I don’t know,” she finally said. “I mean, I know I was teasing you about blindfolds and bondage at the beach, but I’ve never really… This would be the first time I’ve done anything even a little kinky.”

Jamison’s grin grew wicked around the edges. “Are you asking me to be gentle?”

Maddie narrowed her eyes at him, fighting a grin. “This isn’t funny. And yes, I would want you to be gentle.” She shifted closer, letting her hand slide down to cup the strong muscles of his ass through his jeans before she continued in a husky voice. “Until I say I don’t want you to be gentle anymore.”

Jamison’s breath rushed out with a curse. “You drive me crazy, you know that?”

Maddie bit her lip. She was already tingling all over and she and Jamison hadn’t even kissed yet. “And you make me want to play with toys.”

Jamison’s eyes darkened. “I’m clear to grab the blindfold?”

Maddie nodded. “As long as you promise these toys aren’t going to hurt, or leave scars, or go anywhere near the forbidden escape hatch of doom.”

Jamison cocked his head. “The forbidden…” Understanding dawned and Jamison threw back his head and laughed before scooping her up in his arms and spinning her around until she giggled.

He planted a rough kiss on her cheek.

“What was that for?” she asked, still laughing as he set her back on her feet.

“For being you,” he said, eyes twinkling. “And for being the only person I know who could make anal sex sound cute.”

Maddie’s face scrunched like she’d bitten into a lemon. “Oh god, don’t even say it. It’s so gross I can’t handle it Jamison, seriously.”

He chuckled. “Don’t worry. I don’t have any designs on your forbidden escape hatch.” He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively. “At least not tonight.”

Maddie shot him a narrow look. “Or any other night.”

Jamison shrugged, dimple popping as he fought a smile. “We’ll take things slow, but there’s fun to be had with the escape hatch.”

Maddie made a gagging sound.

“Like butt plugs,” Jamison said, grinning when Maddie stuck her tongue out and did a full body shudder. “Or light anal play.”

“Stop! I’m getting ready to be so grossed out I will never recover my frisky feelings,” Maddie threatened. “Tread carefully, Mr. Hansen.”

Jamison nodded, obviously trying to look contrite though his eyes were still sparkling. “My apologies, Ms. Whitehouse. I promise not to offend your delicate sensibilities again tonight.”

“That’s better,” Maddie said, smiling as he pulled her into his arms and kissed her slowly and sweetly, but with enough passion to send her frisky feelings surging back with a vengeance.

“Though someday I’m going to lay my claim on that beautiful ass,” he whispered against her mouth in a voice so sexy Maddie could only sigh and shake her head.

“You’re impossible,” she said.

“I try.”

Reflecting on Meredith: The Character We Love to Hate

If you’ve read the first two books of the Here and Now series, you probably have some opinions about Meredith. You might have some choice words for her as well. I know I do. When I first started writing about her, I said, “Some people are just horrible.” But even horrible people have their reasons—valid or not.

When I first “met” Meredith while writing Wish I May (William and Cally’s book), I didn’t like her. At. All. When I realized what roll she played in Hanna’s books, I liked her even less. You see, in my mind, Meredith is very much like this girl I grew up with, let’s call her…Emily* (*name changed to protect the not-so-innocent). “Emily” was horrible to me, and I never understood why. She was wealthy and “popular” (a misnomer, in my opinion, as the “popular” group was always a rather small percentage of my school). I was from a struggling middle-class family and a bank geek. She was blonde and thin and wore the nicest clothes. I was mousy and overweight and wore my big sisters’ hand-me-downs. I never understood why she seemed to hate me so much.

I went to school with Emily from grade school through high school graduation, though we were in very few classes together since I was in the advanced or “academically talented” classes. But she was around just enough to make a mark on me. If I already had issues about my changing body, Emily made them worse by mocking me when we changed in the gym locker room. If I felt awkward and unwelcome in social settings, Emily made it worse by tripping me in the bleachers at the Homecoming game and laughing with her friends as I scrambled to my feet. Emily was a total bitch.

As a writer, of course, I look back and want to know what her motivation was. Was I just an easy target? She could be Queen Bee of her little group and show her power by making me feel small? Maybe. But I like to think people are more complex than that.

I’ll never forget the day we were meeting with advisors from a small private college. Emily desperately wanted to go to this college. I’d already been admitted and knew I’d be going under and academic scholarship. Emily hadn’t been admitted and she raised her hand to ask the advisors if they would be willing to take a writing sample instead of basing her entry on SAT scores and grades. I remember it so well. She said, “I can’t take tests, but I’m not stupid.” And then she turned and glared at me, and there was so much hatred in her eyes I’ve never been able to forget it. You see, I had no idea that she struggled with her grades or with taking tests. All I saw was a pretty, rich girl who was mean to me. But I guess it was common knowledge that I was quite smart. I was in all the advanced classes, praised for my work, and I’ve never had the problem with testing that some students have. I liked reading and writing and studying—something that may get you mocked in middle school but gets you money when college rolls around. Never would I have imagined that my success as a student had anything to do with how Emily treated me, but in that moment, I knew it did. She resented me for being able to do what she could not.

As I wrote All for This, I realized the same was true for Meredith. She isn’t “just a bitch.” She had her reasons. Does that make what she’s done right? Absolutely not. But it does remind me of Emily and that look in her eyes when she said, “I’m not stupid.” I don’t hate “Emily” anymore. I hope she’s doing well and that she is secure enough in herself these days that she doesn’t have to humiliate others to feel okay about her own weaknesses.

On a final note, I want to say this blog post is probably the most personal one I’ve ever written. I don’t like to write this much about myself—I prefer fiction, TVYM. But since this is for the final book in Hanna’s series, it seems fitting. I’ve gotten so many letters from readers who relate to Hanna and her self-esteem issues, and I’ll admit, I do too. Luckily for me, I know all about finding the guy (or guys in Hanna’s case), that teach you to feel comfortable in your own skin. My wish for you is that, if you see yourself in Hanna, you can learn for her mistakes. You are more beautiful than you know, and the people who bring you down aren’t “right” about you. They’re fighting their own demons. Smile and carry on. (Unless they trip you in the bleachers in front of your whole high school. Then you have my permission to start swinging…)

XOXO,

Lexi

Excerpt

**SPOILER ALERT!** The following excerpt from ALL FOR THIS by its very nature contains spoilers for the first two books in the Here and Now series, LOST IN ME and FALL TO YOU. If you hate spoilers and haven’t read the first two books, don’t read any further.

Hanna

“Where’s Hanna?” I know the voice, and an unwelcome thrill dances up my spine as Nate pushes into my kitchen and stalks toward me.

“Customers aren’t allowed back here,” Liz says behind him.

“Don’t do it,” he says, and those dark, broody eyes are all over me like he’s trying to take me in, memorize me.

I take a deep breath and look to my sister. “You should probably go.” Then I turn to Nate. “Don’t do what?”

“Um…” Liz looks Nate up and down. “Are you sure? Because I can stay to protect you. Or…try.” God bless her, she’s standing behind Nate with her hands on her hips, ready to swing on my behalf.

“Why don’t you give us a minute?”

She narrows her eyes at Nate. “Hurt her and I’ll cut off your balls in your sleep.” Then she pushes out of the kitchen, the door swinging wildly behind her.

“Don’t move in with him,” Nate says.

“What are you talking about?” I ask.

“I thought you said you weren’t moving forward with Max until after the babies were born. Don’t you think moving in is moving forward?”

“I don’t know where you get your information, but I’m not moving in with him.”

“You’re not?”

I shake my head. “He asked me to, and I said no.”

He must have been expecting a fight, because his shoulders relax and he drags a hand through his hair. “Thank you.”

I toss my wash cloth into the sink. “Is that all?”

“No.” He lifts his eyes to mine. “I need to apologize.”

“For what?”

“For this.”

In two long strides, he closes the space between us and presses his mouth to mine. His lips are hot and hungry as his tongue sweeps inside—coaxing and demanding all at once. And it’s so good. So sweet and easy and safe that, for a breath, I forget how wrong it is. I’m back in the hotel in St. Louis, finding myself in the fire between us. For a breath, I forget that I’m wearing Max’s ring.

I shove at his shoulder and push him away. “Don’t do that again.” My stomach squeezes, and my heart is so battered and beaten that it’s unrecognizable.

Nate

Her eyes flash with anger, disappointment, and heat. “Do you think you can win me with a kiss? Did you think I’m so fickle that your mouth on mine is enough to convince me to break Max’s heart?”

I step forward, blocking her between me and the counter as I lower my mouth to her ear. “I thought maybe you needed a reminder.”

“What do you want from me? You want me to admit that I want you? You know I do. You want me to tell you I’m still in love with you? It’s true.”

My heart swells and hammers at her words. I don’t know if I’ll ever feel worthy of Hanna’s love, but that doesn’t change that I want it, need it like I need air.

“Isn’t that enough? Is it like this with him? When he’s whispering in your ear, does your body hum with need? We both know I could kiss you again and make you forget him. I could kiss you until you wanted me so badly you climbed onto that counter and let me touch you everywhere, let me do anything I wanted with your body.”

“You won’t,” she says, her voice shaking slightly.

“Are you so sure?”

“You won’t,” she repeats, “because I’m asking you not to. You won’t because you’re too good not to respect that.”

“I don’t want to be good,” I growl. I step back so I can see her face—her parted lips, her smoky eyes. “I want you.”

“I’m taken.”

“What happened?” I ask, scanning her face, trying to read her shielding expression. “Between when I left LA and when I came back to New Hope, what happened to make you take him back?”

She’s silent for a minute, and I wonder if she’s going to tell me the truth. “I found out he bought me the bakery—that all my worries and insecurities about our relationship were totally unfounded.”

“I’ll buy you a hundred bakeries.”

“But I don’t want a hundred bakeries. I only want this one.”

In New Hope. I close my eyes because I can’t deny that geography still stands between us.

“Please don’t kiss me again.”

“What if you ask me to?”

She swallows. “I won’t ask.”

Kelley’s Review

This series gripped me from the very beginning.  The premise that you wake up one day to find out you have everything you ever wanted, but don’t know how you got it is very intriguing.  Lexi Ryan does an excellent job unveiling Hanna’s memories as she begins to remember the events that led her to make certain decisions.  This series is a must read.  I completely identified with Hanna from the beginning.  The fact that she battled her weight and tried to stay out of the spotlight tugged at a my heartstrings as I can relate to those things.  She really is the most humble and kind heroine that I have ever read.  She does what is best for others and not necessarily what is best for herself.  Even as she has to choose which man she is going to give her heart to, she does her best not to hurt the other as much as possible.

Lexi leaves each book on a cliff-hanger until you get to book three which is Here and Now.  At this point it is time for Hanna to choose either Max or Nate.  After reading Fall to You I felt like I would be ok with either man being Hanna’s happily ever after.  When I started reading All for This I really began to struggle with whether or not I wanted to see Hanna with Max or Nate.  Max sacrifices so much and puts his heart out there and is willing to do whatever it takes to win Hanna’s heart.  I truly fell head over heels in love with Max even more than I was before after seeing him be such a sweet and doting father to Claire.

Nate Crane is holy hotness and he is the match that strikes the fire in Hanna’s body and soul.  The chemistry between the two of them is scorching hot.  I was not entirely convinced that Nate was the right man for Hanna.  It took me reading to the very end of this read to accept the choice Hanna made and say to myself that she made the right one.  That to me is what makes this read so different from any other series I have read.  Here we are the last book in the series and this should be a no brainer but it is not.  There is so much complexity in the choice that Hanna has to make.  Does she want to leave New Hope?  Would Nate move to New Hope but then resent her because he could not be with Colin?  Would Max be truly ok with Nate being a part of Hanna’s life if they were to be together, knowing that she still loves Nate?

Lexi weaves a tantalizing tale that keeps you turning the pages.  This is a series that you will not be able to put the kindle down for so make sure it is fully charged when you start reading Lost In Me because you will not be able to wait to read Fall to You and All for This.  Bravo Lexi Ryan for creating a 6-star series that will remain at the top of my list of recommendations for years to come.

About the Author

lexi ryanOnce a college English professor, I now write full-time. I live in rural Indiana, where, when I’m not writing, I get to hang out with my husband and two kids–a six-year-old boy and a two-year-old hellion, er, girl. Not surprisingly, reading and writing remain my favorite activities, though both come in bits and pieces these days, not the big hunks of time I enjoyed before I had children. When I’m feeling virtuous, I like to go running (I use that word liberally. I’m really, really slow) or do yoga. Don’t worry, I’m always careful to balance out such activities with a hearty serving of ice cream or a chocolate martini.

LEATHER AND LACE
Lonesome Point, Texas, Book 1

Synopsis

Cowboy bikers, fireworks, and romance, oh my…

Wild girl, Mia Sherman, has a secret—she isn’t as fearless as she pretends. Descended from Lonesome Point, Texas’s founding family, Mia grew up hearing tales of an old Irish curse that had followed the Shermans to America. At age twenty-four, Mia is still terrified of the stories, because they aren’t stories. They are a warning about what will happen if Mia allows love and romance into her life. The curse struck Mia’s grandmother and her great-great-whatever grandmother, and Mia knows she could be next. The first-born daughter of every generation is cursed to lose her husband on her wedding night, which is one of the many reasons Mia has sworn off relationships.

Until the fateful day Sawyer Kane rides his Harley into her life …

Rancher turned restoration expert, Sawyer Kane, can’t believe his luck when the feisty owner of the lingerie shop next to his hotel turns out to be the curator of his latest project, a ghost town he’s been sent to restore. He’s looking forward to long, hot days talking history, and hotter nights with Mia, but the redhead with the killer smile seems determined to keep him at a friendly distance. But when a dangerous man from Mia’s past arrives in town, Sawyer finds himself drawn into her inner circle, and into the legend of Lonesome Point itself.

Can true love conquer all, even a centuries-old curse? Mia and Sawyer may be the first to find out.

Excerpt:
I hold my head back and walk toward the delivery truck.
Cole’s eyes are down on the clipboard he is holding in his hands as he double-checks what he has to take off the truck.
“You’re a little late to take me up on the drink offer,” I tease as I cross the gravel drive toward him, shuffling my flip-flops against the rocks. I am hoping that maybe he is a morning person and will be in a better mood than the last time I saw him. No such luck. He looks up at me quickly, adjusting the bill of his hat to shade his face, and then back down at his clipboard. Not even the hint of a grin on his lips. Wow. His expression is as cold as it was last night when he walked away from me.
He shakes his head, albeit subtly, but to me it is like a flashing neon sign that says, “Go away.”
He sets the clipboard down on the hood of the truck, his eyes never once drifting back to mine. Instead, he turns his back and walks behind the truck. He lowers the gate and pulls the pallet lift, loaded up with whatever it was my mom ordered. As he lowers the lift to the ground, he keeps his focus on what he is doing. It is painfully obvious that he is avoiding looking at me. Maybe I should have looked in the mirror again?
I thought my fitted pink t-shirt and black cotton shorts were cute pajamas. Maybe I was wrong. Do I look that horrible this morning?
“Just put it outside the barn doors over there,” I say between clenched teeth. Who the hell does this guy think he is? Never in my life have I been so callously ignored. I glance over my shoulder at my mother and Mallory, who are still watching from the kitchen window. I roll my eyes at them and turn back to see if Mr. Personality has finished what he came here to do. As infuriating as this situation is becoming, I can’t help but notice how fantastic his ass looks in his jeans. The worn denim hangs from his narrow waist perfectly—not cowboy tight and not gangster loose. The gray t-shirt that is stretched across his back reads Wilson Lumber Yard with their catchy slogan underneath—“We Got Wood”. I fight back a giggle. At least someone has a sense of humor. He unloads the pallet and has the lift back in the truck, all while managing to completely not acknowledge my existence.
“I’ll just go ahead and sign for this so you can be on your way,” I say as he climbs out of the back of the truck. This time, the icy tone of my voice catches his attention. I can feel his eyes on me as I walk to the front of the truck. “I’d hate to keep you from the obviously more important things you would rather be doing.” Leaning over the hood, I pull a pen from the holder on the top of the clipboard. My frustration with his attitude is made perfectly clear as I furiously click the plunger on the top of the pen. My eyes are busy scanning for the space I am supposed to sign when a sudden shadow is cast over my shoulder. I can feel his breath on my neck and his body resting behind mine.
It must be the nature of the position we are in because I have to fight the urge to back into him. To feel his hard body against my backside.
My skin is on fire and my brain immediately tries to reason that it is anger as opposed to something else.
“Do you mind?” I snap, turning to tell him to back off. But he doesn’t. Instead, he places his hands on the truck, catching me between his muscled forearms and pinning me between his delicious body and the truck. Even under the bill of that hat he is always wearing, I can see his shaded eyes narrow in on mine. It isn’t with contempt or agitation—it is something else.
Yes. He is looking at me like he wants to tear my clothes off, and I would let him.
He closes the distance between us. Here we are, chest to chest. The air around me instantly thickens, making it nearly impossible to breathe. His eyes go to mine and then to my lips, the same way they did at the bar.
He takes in a shallow breath, and I can tell he is having a hard time breathing, too. I’m not sure if I should duck out from under him and run or throw myself against him. I’ve never been so intimidated or so
turned on in my life. It is infuriating. He licks one corner of his lips and I think for sure he is going to kiss me. Seconds tick and he still hasn’t moved. Is he waiting for me to give him the okay? Does he really want to kiss me? I raise my chin slightly and let my eyes close. I hold my breath, waiting for his lip to fall on mine, and forget every reason I should be mad at him for. That is until he utters three words that manage to remind me.
“No signature required.”

Author Bio:

Born and raised in the middle of a Midwestern cornfield (not literally, that would be weird), I’ve spent my entire life imagining stories. Stories where the right guy always gets the right girl, first kisses are as magical as they are on the big screen and anything is completely possible if you believe.

Although this journey began years ago, it recently took on a whole new life. After years of devouring hundreds of Romance, YA and New Adult novels, I had an epiphany… I should write a book. And I did it!

If I’m not reading, writing, enjoying drinks with my amazing group of girlfriends or chasing around a sarcastically funny kid, I’m probably watching television shows that were created for teenagers, while my husband teases that I’m too old to watch them.

ARC Review: Rescued by Larynn Ford

Rescued2

Synopsis

Fiercely independent and determined to be taken seriously in a man’s world, PI Rose Baxter will do whatever it takes to find the kids who are disappearing from the streets and bring them home safe, even teaming up with PI Marty Brown, a man hot enough to burn whatever part of her gets too close – her fingers, her sheets, her life, and her other nature’s whiskers.

But her other nature knows whiskers grow back and will accept nothing less than this man as her mate for life, a plan Marty’s all in on. Sparks fly when she refuses to be the little woman. Besides, those kids need her and their time’s running out. But, thrown together 24/7 can she fight it?

Excerpt

The mattress moaned slightly in response to an unseen and unexpected movement. Her eyes snapped open and focused on the room, moving up, down, side-to-side. She didn’t recognize a single thing in her line of view. A rush of air flooded her lungs in a panicked gasp. She wasn’t where she should be.

In her own bed.
Alone.
Damn. Where am I and how did I end up here? Double damn.

Her last memory? The bar. Jed’s Place. She’d received a tip from her source that her suspect had slithered inside. Arriving a few minutes later, she kept an eye on him and his cohorts for a couple of hours. Posing as a customer, she shot a couple of games of eight ball with some of the regulars.

Her eyes narrowed. Her head pounded as she recalled the next events.

Nothing stood out until . . . the asshole from the pool table sidled up way too close behind her and tried to score points by offering shooting tips. She stretched up on her tiptoes to line up the winning shot. His groin pressed tight against her bottom. His hands slid down her arms to her wrists as he whispered, “Let me give you a hand there, little lady.”

Without flinching, she purred, “I’m not little, I’m nobody’s lady, and I don’t need your help.” She slammed the butt end of the cue stick into his ribs, and with the same smooth motion came back to make a perfect shot and win her third game of the night. She straightened from the table with a satisfied grin.

Tracey’s Review

Rose Baxter and Marty Brown are both private investigators, looking into the disappearance of runaways and street kids. They decide early on that they’ll be more successful working together. It doesn’t hurt that they’re also completely drawn to each other, although they’re not sure why. The details of who and what Rose and Marty really are, along with their intense attraction to each other, are what define ‘Rescued’ as the paranormal romance that it is.

Paranormal is one of my favorite sub-genres to read. I mean, what’s not to love? There’s the romance, there’s the sexiness and heat, and there’s that quirk that takes it to the next level. When you get an interesting storyline thrown in as well, it makes for one of the more satisfying reads, in my opinion.

Larynn Ford has done a good job of weaving all of these elements together in ‘Rescued.’ Rose and Marty are likeable and down-to-earth. They’re invested in finding the answers to the case that they’re working, but they’re also open to the new feelings that emerge when they get to know each other, so the flow of the story is very nice and easy. The plot of the mystery part of the story is fresh and fast-paced, and held my interest throughout. I am always happy to find a new author that I like, and so I look forward to reading more from Larynn.

ARC Review: Cowgirl Crazy by Becky McGraw

Synopsis

Twyla Taylor is one frustrated cowgirl. She’s not winning at barrel racing or in love. She’s spent ten years nursing a crush on her brother’s best friend, Ryan Easter, who thinks of her as no more than his little sister. When Twyla catches Ryan with yet another no-good buckle bunny, and calls him out, he tells her to get a life, and that is exactly what she decides to do. One that does not include a buckle-bunny-chasing cowboy with a bad attitude, or an overbearing older brother.Ryan Easter is one frustrated cowboy. He’s winning every night at bronc riding, and has a different woman in every city. Mostly so he can keep his best friend’s fiery little sister, and his desire for her, at bay. Since she grew those proud little breasts of hers, and mile-long legs, Ryan has had to fight his attraction to her. If her brother knew what he was thinking, he would kill Ryan, if her daddy didn’t first. Ryan valued the surrogate family the Taylor’s provided him with too much to ever go there with their youngest member.

His diversion techniques work like a charm, until one night he pushes her too far, and Twyla takes off. Ryan knows he has to find her quickly and apologize, or face his best friend’s wrath. He finds Twyla in Dallas and decides she’s definitely gone cowgirl crazy. He barely recognizes her, because his barrel-racing tomboy is wearing makeup that looks like it was put on with a putty knife and she’s working at a bar which borders on a cowgirl strip club. When she isn’t serving shots off of her stomach, she’s shaking her round ass for any man with a dollar to shove into the waistband of her barely-there shorts.

Twyla refuses to leave with him, and Ryan knows he better make his final arrangements, or come up with another way to convince her and fast.

 Tracey’s Review
What do you do when the man you’ve loved for almost your whole life doesn’t feel the same? When he treats you like a little sister and tries to run your life? Well, if you’re Twyla Renee Taylor, you pack up your horse and you leave town, determined to make it on your own. And, if you’re Ryan Easter, said man, you pick right up and go after the girl, because she can’t possibly make it on her own.

‘Cowgirl Crazy’ is the second book in ‘The Cowboy Way series,’ and is full of Becky McGraw’s signature details. All of the characters are very nicely developed, with big personalities. Twyla and Ryan are great; watching them interact while their story evolves is as entertaining as it is sexy. Because, along with all the heat and chemistry, there is also a lot of humor, another trademark of Becky’s writing. Seeing Twyla and Ryan bring out the best in each other makes for a sweet and romantic read. As well, the supporting characters, especially Twyla’s brother Zack and her friend Heather, really help make the story that much more interesting.

Although relatively new to her books, I have become a fan of Becky. There’s not much sexier than a hot cowboys, and she writes great stories full of them. ‘Cowgirl Crazy’ is no exception, and I very much recommend it. I look forward to reading Zack’s story, ‘Too Hot To Trot,’ in the near future.

“No, she needs to listen to me. You both do.” Quinn’s voice was implacable. He pushed Kara’s thighs up so that her knees were almost on either side of her breasts. “Hold her,” he commanded his brother. Ben reached down and grasped her legs behind the knees, keeping her open for Quinn’s perusal. She gasped as she looked down, seeing the top of her sex splayed wide with Quinn so big and imposing leaning over her, looking directly into her eyes. “You will listen to me, little one.  I refuse to hurt you.” He set the condom to the side and swiped his fingers through her wet sex, pulsing with need even more than when Ben’s cock was deep in her mouth. Then she felt him enter her, and it was much more than before. Where before he had used maybe two of his sizeable fingers to stroke inside her, he now had to be using three, and she arched up in welcome. Then he pulled them out, taking more of her silky essence with him. Then he pushed more fingers in again, and she winced at the burn.

“It hurts, doesn’t it, Kara?” He demanded an answer. All she could do was nod her head yes.

Finally she gasped out, “It hurts good, Quinn.” She saw his relieved smile. He continued to pump in and out, until finally she was pushing upward to meet the rhythm of his entry, glorying in the sense of fullness, in the connection with this man. She saw his amber eyes glitter as they watched her intently, assessing her body’s reaction. He took his fingers out to suck them in his mouth, and she shuddered, watching him relish her flavor as his face flushed.

They’d been right to blindfold her. She was now experiencing every sense, and it was amazing. She watched as he picked up the condom, and ripped it open with his intensely white teeth. As he sheathed his cock, she tried to reach forward to touch him, but Ben’s grip kept her in place.

“Next time, Kara,” Ben soothed. “We want to make you feel good. Let Quinn do this.” She watched and felt as the broad head of his cock, so much more than his fingers, snuggled at her needy entrance.

“Oh, my God, can you see this, Ben?” Quinn looked up with a stunned expression, including his brother in this most intimate moment. Ben bent forward over her head, getting a better view. She gave a huff of dissatisfaction that she couldn’t see what they were seeing.

“She’s incredible, brother,” Ben said in a strained voice. Then Kara felt the liquid push just trying to breach the tight muscle of her opening, and she couldn’t help but flinch at the discomfort. Quinn looked deep into her eyes. He felt the resistance of her body, and knew that his girth had to be causing some pain.

“Help her, Ben,” Quinn instructed, while he held still. Ben kept hold of her left leg but gently lowered her right leg, and then his fingers were hovering over her engorged clit, and just one touch had her gasping in reaction. As if he understood that anything more than a featherlike touch would be too much for her swollen bud, he softly caressed her, causing sparks to emanate from that one spot to her entrance, relaxing her and allowing Quinn to slide deeper, until the head was buried inside her, filling her. It was wonderful. She felt the heat and power of the man, and she thrust up, needing him deeper. Again, he looked carefully into her eyes, gauging her ability to accept more. When he determined that with Ben’s ministrations, and her own longing, he could continue, he sank further, until she felt him nestle against her womb.

“Yes, Quinn,” she wailed. “Nothing has ever felt this good.” Ben took his fingers away and she grabbed his wrist, trying to hold him, but he easily moved his fingers to his mouth and sucked them clean, savoring her essence and wetting the digits even further. Then he put them back to where she so desperately needed them and pressed and circled even harder, and that’s when Quinn started a slow pull out, followed by a faster thrust in, once again tapping softly against the mouth of her womb, causing her to spasm in delight. He continued, faster and faster.

“Harder and faster, both of you, harder and faster.” She was thrashing her head. She felt the slight flicker of childhood firework sparklers, and they were building to firecrackers popping off as she whimpered with excitement.  Then she felt a roman candle going off, and finally she screamed as the deafening grand finale came and the night sky exploded into showers of color.

Kelley’s Review

Have you ever gone too far to protect someone that you love?

Claiming Kara is a heartwrenchingly beautiufl love story that is sinfully sexy.  Kara is a brilliant character in that she is smart, tough, and goes all in with her heart when she truly loves someone.  Ben and Quinn should have been thanking their lucky stars to have a woman like Kara even consider being the tip of their triad.  Instead Quinn pushes her away in order to keep her safe and Ben lets him do it.  They seriously underestimate how strong Kara is and what she can handle.  These men are strong fishermen.  It is what they do and Kara knew that their jobs were dangerous when she entered a relationship with them.

The men in this story are scorching hot alpha manly men with rough hands and soft hearts.  I fell in love with Ben first becasue he really loves Kara for who she is.  I really enjoyed seeing Quinn fall hard and fast and being scared to death.  Caitlyn really did an excellent job of developing the characters and making them stronger as the story progresses.

I consider myself an avid reader of menage romance and for the most part in my experience with menage stories sometimes the plot is weak and the story is alll about the sex. Caitlyn O’Leary knocked my socks off with this read.  This story takes you on many twists and turns and I find myself really identifying with Kara.  Where some heroines flip flop about their feelings, Kara puts her foot down and I appreciated that.  I would have stood beside her as friend because she had every right to be angry with her men.

If you like Lexi Blake/Sophie Oak menage romance you will find that Caitlyn O’Leary is a writer that you will really enjoy.  I can’t wait to see what Caitlyn has in store for us next.

Author Interview

DID I ALWAYS WANT TO BE A WRITER?

The idea of being an author has always been a something too out of reach.  I focused on climbing the corporate ladder instead.  When I got this job doing project management where I could telecommute….Well, why not take that time I would normally be in the car and see if I had what it takes to actually be a writer.  After all, reading 500 books a year costs quite a pretty penny!!!  LOL  😉

WHY WRITE A SERIES?  WHY WRITE FATE HARBOR?

Out of all the books that I read, I love it when an author will give me a series.  When a really good book ends, but then I realize I will have an opportunity to dip back into that world, I am SO happy.  So that’s what made me decide to write a series.  As to why I wanted to base my series in Fate Harbor, Washington, well I LOVE the Pacific Northwest.  The people and landscape are so diverse and welcoming.  I grew up there, and I’m always so happy to be welcomed home when I go for visits.  The only two things I might not accurately portray in my books is just how many MFM relationships there are, and how often it DOESN’T rain.  LOL  (People, to be as green and pretty as it is, it rains….A LOT!)

WHICH HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE BOOK TO WRITE?

I love them all.  Claiming Kara has a lot of my family in it.  I’m the oldest of five children, and we meddle in one another’s lives a lot.  So it is definitely near and dear to my heart.  Trusting Chance is nearest and dearest because it is the first book I have ever written.  Part of the reason I wrote Trusting Chance was to show that you could build a family even if it isn’t through blood.  That people care for one another, that they really can support and love one another.  Also, I wanted to show that even if bad things happen in childhood, that you can heal and grow from it, and become a strong person because of it.

WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN TO WRITE EROTICA?

Erotica is sensuality.  It is something that makes me squirm in my seat and get hot and bothered.  It revs me up so that when I see my husband I’m ready to grab him and rip his clothes off.  My readers often tell me the same thing.  They definitely enjoy my stories and they relate to the characters.  When they think about the characters, they agonize over the situations that they go through and in some cases readers have actually been moved to tears on their behalf.  But when it comes to the sex scenes, many claim that that a good “hot flash” would provide them with blessed relief from the steam generated by my characters channeling their passions.

I used to read the old style romances.  You remember—the ones where the sex scenes were done behind closed doors, and the reader was not privy to them.  But to tell you the truth, I wasn’t satisfied with them.  I’m a caring, empathetic person, so I wanted to know that the heroine was sexually satisfied.  After all, she’d usually gone through hell and back to be with her lover.  Was he worth it?  Inquiring minds want to know!!!

As a writer, however, one of the things I want to do is show my readers how my characters could learn and grow to overcome personal obstacles and become better people.  I wanted to show real life situations in which people solved their problems to claim real life rewards.  Why wouldn’t I want to discuss how a woman could bring pleasure to a man performing oral sex?  Why wouldn’t I want to I want to say it was healthy and right for a woman to expect a man to return the favor?  Sex is a wonderful part of life and should be celebrated.  I want to show that to women.  That said,it also wouldn’t hurt if the men in our lives read these books.

GOOFY STUFF ABOUT CAITLYN THAT PEOPLE HAVE ASKED AND I’VE ACTUALLY ANSWERED.

Boxers or briefs?  Well, I like the boxer briefs, but my husband goes commando, so I’ve found I like that best.

Tall, Blonde and Muscular or Taller, Dark and Handsome…..Hubby is number #2, so I need version #1 for a good menage….Hubby keeps saying no.

What’s your favorite sport?  Love watching basketball, these days my favorite game to play is probably golf.  Sometimes I graduate from putt putt to an actual course.

What’s your favorite swear word?  “The Eff Word” it has many uses, it can be used as a noun, a pronoun, an adjective, a verb, an adverb, etc., etc. etc.

What’s your favorite food?  Froot Loops, like the Eff Word it has many uses, it can be used as breakfast, lunch, dinner, an afternoon snack, a midnightsnack, etc. etc.

What was your worst vacation?  A 9 day family road trip, five kids ages 5-14, over 100 degree heat, no air conditioning in the family station wagon.  The highlight was visiting a copper mine in Utah.

What was your best job?  My company sent me over to Brussels for almost a year to help set up Belgacom Yellow Pages.  It was great!

What has been your best inspiration lately?  Navy Seals from San Diego have actually commandeered the swimming pool at my community complex a couple of Saturdays, so I couldn’t swim my laps.  I was initially pissed off.  HOW STUPID WAS THAT?!  I then sat down and enjoyed the show.

From my 3 books, one of my favorite excerpt is really one between Chance Reynolds and Sam Booth.  So often the men have to help one another and depend on one another.  Their friendship is critical to this kind of story.

Chance leaned back on the dock, admiring how clear the day was now that the clouds had disbursed. “Did you ever consider the possibility that you might have an inferiority complex? That somehow your parents fucked you over into believing you weren’t worthy of anything good? So whenever something bad happens, you blow it out of proportion and let it justify your underlying belief system?”

“Jesus, Chance, are you planning on putting out a shingle? I already have a shrink.” Sam took a long pull from his beer and reached for another.

“Nope. I just figure it’s time I said my piece, because this is important, and I want it to work. You and Josie fit because you both come from the same fucked-up childhoods. You can really relate to one another, and help one another. I fit, because I can lighten the mood. You both need me. Not to mention the fact that neither of us is going to let the other one have her to himself.”

“There is that. You try to take her away from me, and they’ll never find your body,” Sam said in a pretty serious tone that made Chance laugh.

“You could try, brother. You could try,” he said, still laughing.

Sam looked over at him, and realized it might not be as easy to take down Chance as he would like to think. “Yeah, yeah, I’ve thought about why I have a glass-half-empty outlook,” Sam admitted.

“No, you don’t have that at all. You always see the good in others. You see the good in a lot of different situations. But when it comes to yourself, you have a broken mirror. You, son, don’t think you are good, nor do you think you deserve anything good.” Chance paused, letting his words sink in. “Do you want Josie?”

“I’ve had Josie,” Sam said with a great deal of satisfaction.

“Do you want Josie for the long haul?” Chance asked. Sam took another swig from his beer, trying to picture his very long life without Josie in it.

“Yeah, I want her. But I don’t know how I can do it.”
