In LADIES MAN, the third book in the Manwhore series, author Katy Evans has given us another of her signature alpha men with a complex and enigmatic back story. Tahoe Roth is the consummate ladies’ man. Larger than life, he works hard and plays hard, attracting women effortlessly, refusing to be tied down by any of them. Like a moth to the flame, Gina finds herself as drawn to him as the others, even while knowing that he is no good for her.

This book is rife with sexually charged scenes, and, I am telling you, they will leave you hot, bothered, and in search of a fan and a new set of panties (Two words: outdoor shower. Gah!). LADIES MAN fairly sizzles with the chemistry between Tahoe and Gina, two people that, despite their best intentions, cannot stay away from each other. Watching them find their uneasy way to each other is like a delicious unwrapping, one step at a time, something that Katy has often used in her writing, and which drives me crazy in the best possible way.

I love the evolution of the relationship between Tahoe and Gina, the way that they bring out the best in each other, even while calling what they have anything other than what it is becoming. The scenes between the two of them, even when they’re doing nothing but spending time together as friends, are palpably emotional and just plain hot.

This book is an easy 4.5 stars for me. The story grabbed me immediately, and I found myself completely invested in both Gina and Tahoe, not wanting to stop reading until I got my answers. LADIES MAN is a definite must-read, and will have you alternately wanting to cheer, yell, throw your book, and grab a cold shower. Do yourself a favor, and do not wait to snap this book up right now. I guarantee that you will not be sorry.

She couldn’t breathe. Her pulse jumped, and the most feminine part of her body came alive. A current of desire and electricity bounced between them, both their breaths quickening. He stepped closer until they touched. Her chest rose, and his fell. Javier’s hand moved to her bicep, drifting, sliding. “It is,” she barely whispered.

“Liar.” His teeth grabbed her earlobe. The bite stung, and the pain skipped straight down her neck, igniting an erotic fire in her blood, making lust fire in her veins. She wanted more, needed to feel the bite again. But he released and licked the tiny spot and gave it a kiss, and all Sophia could do was tilt her head, a silent plea for him to do it again, which went unanswered. “Tell me, are you lying?”

Melting at the protective, truthful accusation, she let sanity leave her. If only he’d give her a biting smack of a kiss again. “Maybe.”

Javier moved faster than she could anticipate. His mouth took hers. A reward. Better than she imagined. His tongue probed, hot and needy. Wanting. Their tongues tangled, and his hands clawed her, pulling her to his muscular chest, eating her mouth as though her lips were the only things that could keep the world turning. Javier growled again. Or maybe this time the masculine sound was a groan. Whatever the noise, he responded because of her. He gripped her hips, backing them again, this time to her bed. The mundane, utilitarian bed was nothing like the last bed they’d been in, and she couldn’t wait to jump into it.

“What are you wearing?”

A pause, as if she’d shocked him. “You’re hitting on me.”

“Are you complaining?” She twisted around in her chair and stared into the mirror on the wall across from her. When he didn’t immediately respond, she kept going. The only alternative was to back down, and Carrigan was so goddamn tired of backing down. The only reason she kept taking James’s calls was because of the distraction he offered her. If he wasn’t going to play, there was no reason for her to stay on the phone.

She really wanted him to stay on the phone. “Shy? That’s okay, I’ll go first. I’m wearing a thin white tank top and a pair of black panties.” She was a liar, but it would take all of five seconds to make it the truth.

“Lovely, you’re testing me.” His voice gained an edge.

Good. At least someone was feeling as out of control as she was. “I suppose you’d like photographic proof.” She stood and shimmied out of her long skirt, and then pinned the phone between her ear and shoulder while she unhooked her bra and took it off. “Hold, please.”

Ignoring his cursing, she adjusted her angle so he would have to be blind to miss the faint outline of her nipples against the fabric of her tank top, and snapped a picture. She knew she was playing with fire. Good lord, of course she knew. But she wasn’t about to stop. She grinned as she sent the picture.

Carrigan put the phone back to her ear in time to hear his sharp inhale. “Your turn.” She held her breath, waiting to see if he’d actually do it. Receiving pictures was one thing. Putting them out in the world was entirely another. Really, she shouldn’t have taken the risk in the first place. There was no telling what he would do with them—they might show up on the Internet. Then who would want to marry her?

Funny, but the idea of countless men checking out her rack didn’t bother her nearly as much if it meant she dodged the marriage bullet. The shame on her family might be enough that her father would send her away permanently. She’d like to spend some time in New York or LA or even New Orleans. Maybe Rome or Paris or Tokyo. The world was so damn big and she’d only seen a little slice of it.

Her phone beeped, pulling her out of her thoughts. She glanced at the picture he’d sent and started to shake. Oh my God. James was shirtless, wearing only those goddamn jeans she couldn’t seem to get enough of. And they were unbuttoned—a clear invitation if she ever saw one. An invitation she desperately wanted to accept. “Damn, James. Somebody taught you how to selfie.”

“Maybe I’m a natural.” His voice was little more than a growl. “You started this, lovely. Tell me what’s next.”

The strange mix of command and handing her the reins got her head back in the game. She walked over to her bed and climbed onto it, trying to ignore the trembling in her legs. She could be in charge. She wanted to be. “I’m lying on my bed.”

“What color are the sheets?”

The question seemed to carry far more import than it should. “White.”

“They don’t suit you. Red is your color. Go on.” He sounded so damn imperial, as if he actually knew her. He didn’t. No one did, really. She wore so many masks, sometimes she worried she’d forget the woman at the center of them all.

But this time he was right. She would have chosen red for herself.

Carrigan put the thought away and focused on the now. “You talk too much.”

“My mistake.” He didn’t sound the least bit sorry. Good. She wasn’t, either. “How do you want it, lovely? Rough, I’d bet. You’re not fucking breakable, and I think you love to be reminded of that fact.” Something rustled on his end of the line. “Close your eyes.”

She obeyed without thinking, and then instantly snapped them open. “I thought I was in charge.”

“You let me know if I get something wrong.” His laugh told her how unlikely he found the possibility.

Although their families, along with the Sheridans, now exist in a shaky truce, neither James nor Carrigan has any business wanting the other.

THE WEDDING PACT is the second book in this series by Katee Robert, and I am loving these books. As usual, Katee writes complex characters in situations that will make or break them. Against all odds, love overcomes division, and enmity gets lost in the reality of people looking beyond the surface, all with a dose of super-hot sexy times thrown in.

Dancing around each other since a chance encounter of the steamiest sort, James and Carrigan are drawn to each other even as their opposing families strive to keep them apart. When an outside threat appears to take control of the Boston crime scene, and things get really crazy, it will be up to the two of them to bring some sanity to their crazy world.

THE WEDDING PACT is an absorbing and engaging read, and an easy 4.5 stars for me. I highly recommend these new books, and look very forward to AN INDECENT PROPOSAL, Cillian O’Malley’s book.

And as silence settled between them, he allowed his gaze to sweep across the terrace in silent observation until it finally found one singular lady who stood like a beacon in the night due to her lack of embellishments. “Who is that?” Richard murmured close to Lady Duncaster’s ear.

“Who is who?” she asked, searching the crowd.

“The lady standing next to the potted rose tree.” She was turned sideways, offering Richard a view of only her profile as she spoke to an older woman.

“Considering the number of potted rose tress on this terrace, you will have to be more specific.”

“Of course,” Richard said, surprised that he hadn’t noticed. “I am referring to the lady in the . . .”—he struggled for an apt description—“whitish gown with gold along the bottom.” It was a very plain gown, he noted, not as puffy as the rest. It had no frills or lace, but was cut in a simple style that hugged the torso before flaring out below the hips. It reminded Richard of something that might have been worn by a medieval queen. Rebelliously, the lady had even chosen to wear her hair down, resulting in a tumbling mass of dark brown curls that almost reached her waist.

“I see what you mean,” Lady Duncaster said. “There is an elegance about her that surely would be lost if her gown had been outfitted with beads, feathers, and lace.”

“She would have looked just like the rest,” Richard said as the lady who’d captured his interest turned to look in his direction. The upper half of her face, including the bridge of her nose, were completely concealed by a Colombina mask that matched her gown. Even so, Richard found himself helplessly drawn to the sharp look in her eyes. And her lips . . . they were the sort of lips that a man like him—a man who’d spent five years without female companionship—would be sorely tempted to kiss. Clenching his jaw, he expelled a slow and tortured breath.

“Perhaps you should ask her to dance,” Lady Duncaster suggested.

Without thinking, Richard stood, then sat back down again when he recalled that a gentleman did not stand while a lady remained seated. “Perhaps not,” he said, chancing another glance in the lady’s direction. To dance with her would do nothing but torment him. She would never be his. It was best if he remembered that.

Lady Duncaster shrugged. “I think you may be sorry if you do not,” she said. “Take it from a woman who never held back, but who always lived her life to the fullest—there is nothing worse than growing old with regret.”

Squeezing his eyes shut, Richard tried not to think of all the things that could never be changed. “Unfortunately, it does not seem as though I will have much choice in that regard.” It was impossible to keep the bitterness he felt from seeping into the words.

“If you say so.” She was silent for a moment before saying, “You are not the only one faced with obstacles, you know. In my experience, when it comes to romance, there are plenty of things that can get in the way of that happily-ever-after, which is why it is only the most determined who ever secure a love-match. That said, I do believe it is time for that minuet you promised me. Shall we proceed?”

Reluctantly, Richard nodded. “By all means.”

Lady Duncaster’s insightful words had thrown him slightly off balance. His expectations of ever sharing a future with a wife and children had been dashed long ago. He’d come to terms with that, even if he wasn’t happy about it. In fact, he was still bloody furious and very much aware that there was little chance of altering his fate, though he still sought retribution. Indeed, he doubted that there was anything on earth that could make him stop his vendetta. It had become an obsession over the years—a living creature whose hunger he hoped to one day satisfy. He could not afford any distraction, least of all when it would serve no purpose.

And yet, in the space of only a moment, an eccentric old lady with a towering wig perched precariously on top of her head and dressed in a gown that looked more like a bouquet of flowers than something one might actually wear, had forced a tiny piece of hope upon his mind. It made him wish that he had the courage to do as Lady Duncaster suggested and seek out the mystery lady, perhaps ask her to dance. But it was a fanciful thought—a dream that he deliberately allowed to fade.

Excerpt

He’s dead still for a second, but then he wraps his arms around me and pulls me in close. He’s right between my legs, and I shiver when I feel the cotton of his T-shirt against my inner thighs. I gasp as the implication of why I can feel him hits me.

“Oh my God,” I sputter as I pull back. “Holy shit!”

Cole quickly pulls back and looks up at me with concern.

“What’s wrong?”

When I went to dry the monitor, the thing I grabbed to do it was the hem of my white cotton dress—the hem of which had rested about an inch above my knee. I’m now sitting here with it bunched up around my thighs. I try not to look down, but can’t help it. As quick as I bring my eyes back to his, it’s too late. His gaze follows the path mine just did, and he lets out a choked noise when he realizes the state I’m in.

“Jesus, Devon,” he growls. “Fuck.”

Lifting his head, he meets my eyes. My breath stops, lodging somewhere in my chest when I see the look of hunger in his eyes. The breath rushes out of me in a whoosh when he leans back and runs his hands up the inside of my thighs.

“You’re so soft,” he murmurs. “So beautiful.”

I expel the breath I’ve been holding in a rush. Seemingly of their own volition, my legs spread wider, allowing him to come in closer.

About Tessa Bailey:

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days.
