Tina’s Review

Cover thoughts: No Shirt, Wield Shield, Will Service? It’s kind of an awkward cover that does not accurately represent the story inside. He should have looked more like a motorcycle mechanic or something… but this, it’s just gratuitous man-flesh. 😉 Synopsis is pretty on-point.
Technically, this is the third book to the series, but each stands alone. The force of attraction between Scott and Nikki was like magnet to steel, leading to a whirlwind marriage and a few good years. Then their marriage fell victim to his two-year UC persona, ultimately resulting in divorce. Now, circumstances bring them together to work on a joint task force determined to put an end to drug smugglers that are using the AKC competitive world as their smokescreen while gruesome, inhumane acts are being carried out behind-the-scenes. Nikki, now going by Cole, takes the position claiming she needs this “for closure” when the truth is, she’s just as effected by Scott as she was the day she met him. Scott knows he screwed up and he doesn’t deserve her, but damn if he doesn’t want her with a viciousness! This is the Love/Hate relationship for the ages and their unresolved issues are epic.
The characters are well-written and enjoyable. The secondaries are supportive and beneficial to the story. Hugo and Izzy truly come to life and convey such emotion and personality. I love the natural interaction and dialogue between characters. The fluidity of the story has a smooth progression and even when it only puts you through the mundane, it is still a pleasure to read. The plot does have plenty of action and throughout it all, it keeps you excited to see how things would unfold. I had my suspicions early on about who the “bad guy(s)” is/are and was right about the main one & somewhat right about the lesser players. There were plenty of conflicts which, in the beginning, were denied and avoided or compounded by mis- or non-communication, as the story progressed, the conflicts were resolved much more maturely and cohesively. The conclusion is solid and wraps up all loose ends in a manner that was not rushed or drawn out.

Say My Name by J. Kenner is a spinoff of the Stark Trilogy featuring Damien Stark’s PA, Sylvia Brooks.

Sylvia has always been interested in real estate. When an opportunity to purchase an island off the California coast becomes available, she presents it to her boss, Damien Stark. Stark tells her to run with it and makes her head of the project. The project would include purchasing the island and developing it into an exclusive family resort. Sylvia has worked her tail off and wants this project more than anything. “Law breaker? Hardly,” she scoffed. “I just don’t want to go through the trouble to get a license and then have to change my…” The conversation came to an abrupt halt. Quinn looked up at Rick slack-mouthed, with discernible fear in her wide eyes.

“Change? Change what?”

She waved a shaky hand in the air dismissively. “Nothing. I don’t know what I was saying.”

Rick knew she was lying. He didn’t even need the extensive interrogation training he received in the Marines to see the blatant lie.

What in the hell is she hiding from me?

He was getting damn sick of the evasiveness and the games that Quinn played. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the time or the place to get into an argument with her and he promised that he wouldn’t push her to discuss things. Rick silently seethed, clenching his hands under the table.

The rest of the meal was finished quickly. Neither of them touched on subjects other than safe, impersonal ones, sports, traffic, and the weather.

Fuck! I’m sitting here discussing the mother fucking weather while the girl I love slips through my fingers.

Love? A bolt of fear shot through Rick’s heart, jump starting it until it was pumping erratically against his chest.

I love her?

Rick mulled it over as they drove back to Quinn’s apartment, turning it over in his mind a hundred different ways with no clear answer. He walked her up the stairs, waiting for her to unlock the door. As he stood there watching her, the sun glinting off of the golden highlights in her dark hair, it finally hit him, sucking the air from his lungs.

Without a doubt, I fucking love her.

Quinn opened the door, turning to say good-bye. This time, Rick wasn’t going to let her push him away. There would be no more keeping him at arm’s length. He loved her, and he wasn’t going to give up. Pride be damned, he’d fucking grovel on his knees if that’s what it took.

Rick inhaled a deep breath and moved into the apartment, forcing Quinn to step back so he could fit through the doorway.

“Rick, what—”

Done with the bullshit dance they’d been doing, he silenced Quinn by crushing his mouth over hers, spinning them until her back hit the partially open door, slamming it closed. Rick pressed his weight against her, pinning her soft body against the thick slab of wood as he dominated her, thrusting his denim-covered cock against her abdomen. He could sense the exact moment Quinn stopped fighting, giving herself over to the pleasure. Her tense muscles relaxed and her mouth joined in, yet she allowed Rick to control the kiss.

Lips and teeth mashed together brutally, Rick’s tongue plunging into the depths of her mouth. This wasn’t a gentle kiss meant to be romantic. No, it was a rough display of possessiveness, of pent up desire. It was all of Rick’s love and anguish coming out in one overwhelming display of need and power.

He slid his arms around Quinn’s waist, gripping her round backside and pressing his fingers deep into the soft flesh. He tugged her hips forward, grinding their groins together almost painfully. Quinn moaned into Rick’s mouth, her desperate sounds acting like gasoline on the fire roaring through his body.

Richochet: Friendly Fire is the second book in the Ricochet series by Heather C. Leigh. This book cannot be read as a stand alone, the first book in the series must be read.

This second installment was exactly as I predicted. It was an intense delivery of Rick and Quinn’s relationship. It also built up to the suspenseful event that happens at the end. It gives the reader an idea of who Rick and Quinn are. They both have secrets. They both are harboring scars from the past. They have finally given into their attraction, but can they let go of their secrets? Can they move forward? Neither one is ready to admit their true feelings and it could cost not only their love, but possibly their lives.

This installment in the Ricochet series kept me enthralled. I loved the pacing, the chemistry between the characters, and the build up of suspense. It ended on the perfect cliffhanger that will leave readers begging for more.

The third book will be out on April 12, 2015. I am ready!

The Ricochet series by Heather C. Leigh has a very special unique combination of the kind of romance heroes that readers love. The series is based around an MMA Training Center that is the cover for a secret private special ops organization. The men that run this gym are not only professionally trained fighters, they are also lethal warriors. How could I not read this new series?

Ricochet: Locked & Loaded is the first book in this three part series. As in most series, the first book introduces the reader to the characters, sets the stage for the overall plot, starts to build the undeniable attraction and heated chemistry between the characters, and starts to weave the story. In Ricochet: Locked & Loaded the reader gets a good idea of who Rick and Quinn are. The reader also gets a taste of the heated attraction between the two. The reader also gets an idea of both of their demons that chase them.

I really enjoyed this first installment to this series. I am really looking forward to the next book, Ricochet: Friendly Fire. I think the reader is going to get the meat to this story in this installment. I have a feeling the suspense and romance are going to heat up beyond boiling point.

The great thing about the Ricochet series is that readers don’t have to wait weeks or months for the next book. Each book is being released one week apart.

I run my fingertips over the blue-and-silver paintwork as I walk toward the back end. Bending over, I start poking around, taking a look at the engine.

He’s tall, too, a good few inches higher than my five-nine. I’d say he’s six-one, which is tall for a driver, but he’s lean. He needs to be to fit into those cars. I bet, under those clothes of his, there’s nothing but toned muscle. Drivers have to be seriously fit, and Carrick Ryan certainly ticks that box on both counts.

Now, I’m imagining him naked. Great. Just fucking great.

I force my focus back to the now. “Well…” I lean in closer to him, hearing him suck in a sharp breath. I lower my voice as I whisper, “If you ever call me sugar again, you won’t see your next birthday. That’s for sure.”

He tilts his head back in amusement. “Feisty. I like it.”

I take a step back, dropping my hand from his chest. “There’s nothing here for you to like.”

Only For Her is the second novella in the Only series by Cristin Harber. The first book, Only For Him , left off with a major cliffhanger. Gray left Emma walked away from Emma without so much as a goodbye, let alone an explanation. Their one and only night together should of been the beginning of a love that lasts a lifetime. What it left instead was heartbreak and a baby. It left Emma alone to pick up the pieces of her shattered heart. She had to give up her dreams of a life with Gray and her dreams of college life.

This book fast forwards to three years later. Gray is in the middle of combat. Emma is in the middle of surviving her life as a single mother to a beautiful little girl. Neither one is in a happy place in their lives. Gray is losing his solid memories of Emma, the one thing that always kept him going. Emma is harboring anger and resentment towards Gray for leaving her.

When the unspeakable happens it will change both of their lives once again. Emma believes that Gray is dead. Gray wants to find Emma as soon as he is able to because he has finally realized he needs more than her memory to survive.

When he finally finds Emma, he finds a very different girl than he left behind. He is also a very different man. He is beyond damaged physically. He suffers from the guilt of abandoning Emma, survivors guilt, PTSD, and still carries the scars of his childhood. The one thing that he is determined to do is make things right with Emma once again. The second novella moved a bit fast for all of the issues that needed to be dealt with. It was still very emotional and touching. I am deeply invested in these characters and their lives. I am looking forward to the third book, Only For Us. I am hoping it will be a bit longer and resolve their lives.

I am big fan of the bad boy meets good girl romance and Jennifer Probst delivers us the perfect bad boy package in James Hunt. James is your typical spoled rich kid that is used to getting everything he wants. Quinn is the perfect good girl. She working hard and chasing her dreams and she is really going places. James continues to struggle with his classes and art career. Jennifer really does an amazing job with Jame’s character development. He truly grows into a man that is worthy of Quinn’s love. She also grows this couple and shows what it is like for young couples as they try to find themselves in their careers and figure out who they want to be. The chemistry between these two characters is very intense. If you are looking for a short and sexy read you will love Chasing Me.

Emotional and and Sexy

Grab some tissues, chocolate and a cup of coffee becasue once you start reading Losing Us you will not be able to put it down. Jen threw me completely off balance from the start. I was expecting an extended HEA with maybe a little drama. I mean this is a Hollywood love story after all. My heart broke so hard for Mackenzie when her surprise visit to Austin goes down hill. I found myself relating to Mackenzie so much as similar events have unfolded in my life lately that are very similar. I don’t want to give anything away but I can tell you their road to happily ever after is very bumpy. Jen of course writes some seriously sexy scenes that will have you fanning yourself. Losing Us is an emotional love story and that will capture your heart for quite some time. I will not forget this story anytime soon.

Finding you is full of action and suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Cassie has to go back to Key West to tesify and her plan is to stay away from Ty. The problem is that the heart wants what the heart wants whether or not the brain agrees. It almost kills Cassie to see Ty with Carmen, but as fate would have it Ty ends up on a protection detail for Cassie when the rapist breaks free from jail.

This book is completely from Cassie’s point of view and it makes it hard to know what Ty is thinking or feeling combine that with it being a short novella you don’t get the warm fuzzies when it comes to their happily ever after. The story is very realistic though and Ty and Cassie do come to an agreement in the epilogue. I would love to see Jenna write a third book in this series. A holiday novella could certainly solidify the HEA and give readers that warm and fuzzy feeling that is often needed.

All Male Romance. Setting: England.
Immediately, I fell in love with the character of Malachi. Harper took a little more time to warm up to. Both have such uniquely tragic pasts. Malachi was miserable, as the submissive partner to an over-dominant man for too long. Harper was falsely convicted and imprisoned for ten years. Both are trying to make adjustments to their new lots in life.
There’s a full cast of secondary characters that create a rich spectrum of personality types. The dialogue and interactions are believable, natural and brimming with humanity of the best and worst kind. This entire book is a study in conflicts, better is how those conflicts are resolved. Mature and time-appropriate progression, with an allowance for mistakes and misunderstandings to be corrected. The plot is deceptive in that it seems like it will be a straight-forward contemporary, but there is a lot of hidden conspiracy and mystery going on. Festering hatred and blind ignorance fuel crimes both old and new and leave Harper and Malachi in a tailspin of what-the-f@ckery. There was very little predictability; in fact, my short list of top suspects were all wrong. That does not happen often. I would have liked to have known if the culprit knew him prior to the initial contact (that’s about the best way I can phrase is while not giving away a spoiler). The conclusion was very solid. There were no cliffhangers.
This was a very enjoyable read. Emotional and suspenseful.

This is the first book I’ve read by A.R. Torre who also writes as Alessandra Torre. This book is unique as I’ve never read anything like it. The characters are so well developed, the plot is weaved so brilliantly, and the author obviously did extensive research into the adult online entertainment community to make this story as realistic as possible. I’d classify this story as romantic/suspense/psychological thriller. It’s not your typical HEA and its not cookie cutter, its raw and jaw dropping. It’d definitely got a shock factor that’ll captivate readers. This story is a solid 4 stars and I cannot wait until the next installment!
