“Ryker . . . please . . . just let me go.” But this time when she speaks there is something in her voice that catches my ear. The same thing that has me looking a little bit closer, regardless of how much my chest constricts in doing so, and I notice the tears welling in her eyes and the tremble of her bottom lip.

A chink in her damn armor. She doesn’t want to tell me we’re over any more than I want to believe her.

“What the fuck is going on here? You’re hiding something from me.”

“No. I’m not. This just can’t be.” She starts to skirt around me, and it takes everything I have not to reach out and keep her there.

“Don’t walk away from me when I’m talking to you!”

“And don’t you think for a second you can tell me what to do,” she counters, hair flying over her shoulder, jaw clenched.

“I’m not in the mood for your games.”

“My games?” she screeches and throws me off guard when I shouldn’t be. “My games? You’re the one who did this to me. All of it. And you tell me I’m playing games?”

“What the—?” I stop and try to figure out what she’s talking about. My hands are on her shoulders, and I’m all but shaking her to force her to look me in the eyes. “Did what to you, Vaughn? What the hell have I done to you besides fuck myself over by falling in love with you?” Words that should be said with kindness come out in a frustrated rage. Truths I don’t want to voice, and now I can’t take them back.

And she just stands there with her head shaking to reject my words, eyes wide with a hint of fear, and fuck if I don’t hate myself right now for everything I feel: rage, desperation, love, desire.

How can you swear you’re not cut out for a relationship and love in one breath, then with the next fight so goddamn hard to keep it?

What is this woman doing to me?

I scrub my hands over my face and take a deep breath to calm the fuck down. To force myself to cool my temper so I can keep her here instead of pushing her farther away.

“What is it, baby?” I all but plead with a voice as soft as I can make it. “Tell me why you’re walking away when you don’t want to.” She averts her eyes, confirming there’s something more. “I can’t help you unless you tell me what happened. I can’t understand why the other night meant nothing to you until you do.”

Come on. Talk to me.

“Carter paid me a visit after I left your place.” Her voice is soft, but her defiance is mounting.

That’s definitely not what I expected to come out of her mouth.

“What do you mean, Carter paid you a visit?”

“Just what I said.”

“Why? For what? That fucking asshole better not have touched you.”

“Does it matter if he did?” Her voice rises. “You invited him into my personal life. You gave him everything he needs to destroy me.”

Reveal is book 2 in the Wicked Ways Series by K. Bromberg. This book picks right up where Resist ended.

This book was fantastic! Yes, I say that with all Kristy’s books, but she just has a way of weaving a story that leaves a lasting impression on the readers. Her ability to bring so much depth and personality to her characters makes it easy for readers to connect with them.

Vaughn and Ryker are two very strong and determined characters who are fighting this attraction to one another. At the end of Resist, we are left with a cliffhanger, and things aren’t looking good for our powerhouse couple. Things continue to spiral downhill for both Vaughn and Ryker in Reveal leaving readers gasping every chapter and trying to figure out what’s going to happen to the couple we’ve been rooting for. The story is riveting! It takes on more than just romance, but also incorporated a bit of suspense. I literally had no idea how this book was going to end and if the characters would find resolution but in typical K Bromberg superhuman abilities, she pulled it off and delivered one heck of a wild ride and fascinating story.

This was easily one of the easiest 5 star reviews I’ve ever given. Like I mentioned, Kristy is a talented storyteller and readers will not be disappointed with this book.

I’d had bodyguards before. But only for events like fashion week or a big shoot. Just for a limited amount of time. My contract with Ziggy, however, was open ended, dependent on the heart in the box situation. Once he’d grilled me about what the police were doing (investigating my entire life), my routine (I don’t really have one. It’s consumed by work), and my calendar for the next few days (I’d freed up time to finish unpacking and then back to work on my lingerie line), he drove me to the gym. There was one I used a couple of times in the apartment building, but I generally do better with some active encouragement and guidance.

Guess Ziggy approved of my Land Rover because he gave it another one of those almost-smiles. I, however, continued to receive the full professional cold front face. This was definitely going to take some getting used to.

“Who’s your shadow?” asked Kwana, my awesome trainer.

I paused mid-lunge, my breath coming hard and fast. “My bodyguard, Ziggy. You like him?”

“He’s pretty. Don’t stop, keep moving.”

“Yeah, yeah.”

“You don’t usually have one of them around. Have you been getting hassled or something?”

Kwana stood with her arms crossed, all lean muscles beneath brown skin. Since we were in an open area at the end of the main part of the gym, Ziggy waited over by the wall, just out of earshot. He stood with his arms loose at his side, his gaze constantly wandering a circuit from me—around the room, over to the exits, and back again. Always on alert.

“More a precaution than anything,” I said.

No matter how much I liked Kwana, no one outside my inner circle needed to know about the incident. The fewer people who found out about the gross cow heart and knife the better.

There’d been no further news from the police. Though it was never likely they’d track down a suspect and charge that person the next day.

Case closed, hooray!

It’s always a delight to read anything written by Kylie Scott. It is an extra bonus when her latest novella is set in the Stage Dive world and we get to re-visit some of our favorite rockers and yes that includes the one of a kind percussionists that doles out dating advice while parenting his puppy. Alas, the Stage Dive members are not the stars of this novella but one of their security team agents, Ziggy Thayer, has been hired to protect their neighbor, plus size super- model Mae Cooper. While Ziggy is all kinds of hot and can rock a suit, he is also good at his job. He’s her to protect Mae.

Mae has a stalker who has been sending bloody gifts that are raising all kinds of warning flags. The stalker has escalated from threatening letters to threatening gifts. Ziggy believes this is only the beginning and wants to find the person behind the threats. Although He loves protecting Mae but would rather put his hands on her a different way. She has won his heart with her down to earth personality and great sense of humor. Why anyone would want to hurt this beautiful soul is beyond him but he knows there are all kinds of crazies in the world. It’s his job to neutralize the crazy.

Mae and Ziggy are dancing around what they really want to do with each other. When the threat is finally eliminated… watch out because these two are going to bring down the house.

Once again Kylie Scott wrote a delightful novella and created fun-loving, likable characters that make the Stage Dive world even more delightful. She added her special blend of snarky humor and sarcasm while also maintaining a sexy romance. I loved it!

Closer is a fun, fast paced novella that will keep the reader fully engaged and entertained.

Darkest Sinner by Rachel Van Dyken is the latest release in the Dark Ones Saga. It can be read as a standalone or in series order. I would highly recommend reading the entire series because the paranormal world is already established and many of the key players have been introduced in previous books. The Dark Ones have been assigned certain roles in the modern contemporary world. They are the protectors and keepers of the balance between good and evil. What happens when the balance has been rocked and is going off kilter. It can upset the balance and change the roles of each protector. This could redefine the world as we know it.

Timber, the king of demons, is losing his borrowed soul. He is reaching the point of no return when he meets the new waitress in his bar. The moment he meets Kyra he feels a connection that could either completely destroy him or restore his diminishing existence.

Throughout the ages these two souls were meant to be together. Will they find a way to make it work before it’s too late? Read the book!

I thoroughly enjoyed Darkest Sinner. It was brilliant how Rachel Van Dyken intertwined two ancient civilization religions and mythology to blend into one. I highly recommend this book!

“Would you like something to drink, Hollis?”

“No, thank you.”

He looked completely uncomfortable standing in my kitchen, so of course, I needed to make it worse. I tilted my head. “Did you touch any?”

“What?”

“My panties. Did you touch any while you were in the bathroom?”

He tugged at the collar of his polo and looked down the hall. “Where did she go? We need to get back on the road.”

I’d been kidding around. But…holy shit…he had! I covered my mouth and cracked up. “You did, didn’t you! You perv!”

I walked them to the door. Hailey surprised me with a hug. “Your art stuff is awesome.”

“Thank you, sweetheart.”

I grinned at Hollis, who was impatiently holding the door open for his niece. “Your uncle thinks my stuff is awesome, too.”
