Michel’s Review
Opening up the latest release,  Until December by Aurora Rose Reynolds is like going home for a long awaited family reunion and reconnecting with loved ones.  After six years and over a dozen books, the Mayson family has become dear to my heart and a part of my imaginary family. Each and everyone of the family members is unique, special in their own way, and full of heart. Their code of honor, personal ethics, and dedication to those they love is admirable.
***
December Mayson is Asher Mayson’s quiet, studious daughter. Unlike her sisters, she would rather be in her jammies, reading a book, and enjoying the quiet. Although she’s the quiet daughter, she is full of the Mayson spirit.
***
December met Gareth Black at her cousin’s wedding. In a drunken stupor, she gave into temptation and had a one night stand with her cousin’s gorgeous neighbor. The next morning when she woke up and realized what she had done, she did the run of shame rather than the walk of shame.  She had broken the sister code and slept with a guy one of her sister’s had spotted first and laid claim to.
***
Gareth Black is a single father raising two boys. He works two jobs to make ends meet. He has little time for himself but when he meets December Mayson he’s willing to find a way. It’s too bad she’s an immature woman who wants to play around rather than engage in a real relationship. He doesn’t have the patience or the time for that. He doesn’t want his boys to witness another disastrous relationship after what they have had to experience with their own mother.
***
First impressions are usually spot on. Overthinking and misconceptions usually are just that. Once December and Gareth get past that, they are developing a good, healthy relationship with open communication and respect. The boys are finally getting to see what a honest, sweet, caring woman does for a home. All is going well until Gareth’s ex-wife returns home and is taking back her place in the boys life. Gareth can’t let his boys experience that kind of hurt again but he can’t turn them away from their mother.
***
December may be a quiet, mild mannered, sweet girl but she is a Mayson. She will fight tooth and nail for those she loves. She is fighting with all her heart for her three men.
***
Aurora Rose Reynolds delivered another emotional and saucy romance that will please her readers. The Mayson family has gained three more hot alpha men in their family tree. I can’t wait to see who gets the next Mayson Bang!

Teardrop Shot, an all-new sexy and angst filled sports romance from New York Times bestselling author Tijan is available now!

Teardrop Shot Ebook Cover

I asked for his criteria for bed buddies–that’s the PG version.

He swore at me and said he didn’t do groupies. And just like that, our friendship was off to a great start.

Reese Forster was the starting point guard for the Seattle Thunder.

Gorgeous. Cocky. Loved by the nation.

He’s also attending preseason basketball training camp where I used to work.

Correction: where I work again, because I was fired from my last job.

And dumped.

And I might have a tiny bit of baggage, but that’s normal. Right?

Reese and I shouldn’t have become friends. We shouldn’t have become roommates.

And we really shouldn’t have started sleeping together … (Except we did.)

I’m adorably psychotic. He’s in the NBA.

This is not a disaster waiting to happen, at all.

Teardrop Shot is a 107k standalone with brand new characters.

Excerpt:

He came out, all ready, saw me, and shook his head.

Giving him the biggest smile I could muster, I handed over his coffee and dangled my keys. “Let’s go.”

My neighbor was coming home from his night shift at a factory. He was trudging down the hallway when he saw us, lifted a hand in greeting, then stopped. His head shot upright and his shoulders stiffened.

He rotated swiftly on his heels, his eyes wide and bulging. He held up a hand. “Is that—”

“No.” Lying. Another superhero quality of mine. “It’s late, Bill. That’s my brother.”

Reese squashed a laugh and nodded to the guy. “What’s up.” It wasn’t a question, but a greeting, and he hustled me past my neighbor.

I gave Reese a look as we went to my underground parking spot. “He’s going to hammer me later. He’ll know he wasn’t seeing things.”

“He’s a fan?”

“The biggest.”

Reese smirked, meeting my gaze over the top of my car. “Bigger than you?”

We were entering cheesy territory here. We needed to scale it back.

“I have a cardboard cutout of you,” I told him. “In my closet.”

He froze. “You’re joking.”

I was, but now I had to buy one. “Wouldn’t you like to think that.” Settling into my chair, I felt better—more familiar terrain again. “But the funny thing is, next time you come, you won’t know if I was serious or if I bought him after I told you.”

Reese just rolled his eyes, putting the coffees in the cup holders for both of us.

He was looking around as I pulled out of the lot. “This is actually a nice place.”

“The underground parking is nice. The apartment building itself is okay. Nothing great.” I didn’t tell him how the lights in the laundry room would dim, so if I used those machines, I had to prop the door open with a rock. Or how I’d only do my clothes between seven in the morning and nine. Nine was the latest. After that, people were stirring, and there were a few neighbors I wasn’t so sure about.

Reese whistled as I pulled up to departures seven minutes later. “You weren’t kidding. That’s close.”

“And you’ve barely had your coffee.”

He yawned now, blinking a few times. “I’ll grab some inside. You can have it.”

I parked, but didn’t shut off the engine.

“Do not get out,” he warned.

I grinned. “Wasn’t planning on it. We really don’t need to go to that level, with the hugging, would we kiss or not… Too many strings, friend.”

He smiled back, but his eyes had started to smolder a bit. He leaned over, dropping his voice, “I’ll answer one of those questions.” His lips caught mine in a good, firm kiss, one that sent my senses spiraling and stole just the slightest bit of oxygen from my lungs.

I might’ve needed to gather my bearings as he pulled back and grabbed his bag from the back. Before he turned, he gave me a second kiss, this one lighter. “Go home. Go to bed,” he said as he reached for the door. “Text me when you park, and again when you’re inside your place. Humor me. I’m a friend. I can care.”

He was starting to leave, but I tugged on his shirt.

He paused, looking back.

“And after that?” I asked.

“We’re friends. Let’s play it by ear.”

Our gazes held, a shared reminder of the other details in our agreement. I saw his darkening, so I let go. “Okey-dokey. Hope you don’t get mauled.”

He laughed. “It’s too early for that.”

But we both knew the truth. It could happen.

As if reading my mind, he amended, “It’s usually not that bad. If it is—and I don’t think it will be—airport security is good with celebrities here. They’ve got a special room and everything. Plus…” He reached in his bag and pulled out a baseball hat, dragging it low over his eyes and flicking up his hood. “This is pretty incognito.”

His height wasn’t, but I decided to pick my battles. “I’ll expect twenty questions by the time you land.”

He laughed. “Don’t think so. I’m going to be sleeping that whole time, but I’ll text you updates just to annoy you.” He got out, but bent back down, his tone more serious. “Do me a favor? Only take that job if you want it. Don’t take it because you feel desperate. I can loan you money, if anything.”

That wiped all joking aside. “Reese.” Dammit. “I’ll never lose myself in a guy again. Ever.”

“Yeah, but before you didn’t have a friend who could loan you money until you got to a place where you could pick something that actually made you happy.” His eyes flashed a warning. “Now you do. Just think about it. It’s a loan. I’d give one to another friend in the same spot.”

I rolled my eyes.

He chuckled. “Drive safe. I liked screwing you. Let’s do it again and soon.”

“I changed my mind. Get mauled!”

I could hear his laugh as he shut the door and headed inside, his bag over his shoulder. Only a couple guys squinted at him, their heads cocked to the side. He was right. His incognito look really was incognito, but he was still frustrating.

And I was hoping for thesoontoo.

Driving back, my phone kept buzzing.

Reese: Checking in.

Reese: I had to check my bag. It’s too big for a carry-on.

Reese: Two autographs.

Reese: Going up the escalator now.

Reese: At the security line. The guards are cool. They promised not to be angry when Thunder beats the Coyotes.

Reese: Through security.

He knew I couldn’t answer. I was driving.

Reese: I’m at gate A6.

Reese: This is a nice airport. I always forget till I get here.

Reese: I upgraded to first class.

Reese: Coach wants to make sure I get back in time for meetings this morning.

Reese: Still not boarding. Just letting you know.

After parking, I grabbed my phone.

Me: It’s supposed to be questions. Like, if I asked security if I could put a body in my bag, could I still check it? Questions like that. You’re not following the rules.

Reese: Fuck the rules. These are my rules.

Reese: You do questions. I do updates. Deal with it.

Reese: Except now. Are you back at your place?

Me: Yes. Walking upstairs now.

Reese: No updates from you. Well. Yes. Tell me when you get in your place.

I turned down my hallway. Bill’s door opened and his head popped out. His hair was scruffed up like he’d been trying for a Mohawk. “No bullshit. Was that him?”

I was about to break a fellow Reese Forster fan’s heart. “It was my brother.”

He glared. “You’re not fucking with me?”

“No.”

“Oh.”

That was it.

His head went back in, and he slammed his door shut.

Immediately Mrs. Rings yelled from her apartment across the hall. “STOP SLAMMING THE DOORS! EVERYONE FUCKING SHUT IT!”

And her parrot a second later.

“STOP SLAMMING FUCKING SHUT IT!”

And then, “SHUT IT, BORIS!”

And her parrot again, “EVERYONE FUCK IT AND GO TO SLEEP!”

Michel’s Review

Teardrop Shot by Tijan is an emotional story that is more than a romance. This book taps into every emotion and will have the readers laughing out loud one moment and wallowing in ugly tears the next. This is a story about finding the love of your life only to lose them in a devastating break up. Time doesn’t always heal broken hearts. It just changes your perceptions of your life, emotions, and experiences. It allows the heart to open for the possibility of new love.

This book opens with the heroine Charlie in a bad place. She’s been fired from her job. She’s just been dumped by her cheating boyfriends grandfather. The jerk didn’t have the nerve to face her himself. She was only using that boyfriend as a rebound for her previous relationship that shattered her heart in a million pieces. She’s at odds with her family. She’s separated herself from her friends a few years ago. But when one of her oldest friends comes to town and offers her a temporary job at the summer camp she used to work at years ago, it seems like a miracle.

Not only does Charlie get to reconnect with all of her closest friends from her youth but she also gets to meet her idol, Reese Forster, basketball superstar for the Seattle Sonics.

Charlie is a prickly as a pear. Spurts out ridiculous questions when she’s nervous. She is evasive about her past relationship and refuses to talk about it with anyone until she meets Reese. There’s more to him than most people realize. He sees the wounded soul she’s hiding beneath the surface. He understands that kind of pain. He has his own skeletons that make his heart ache.

Together Charlie and Reese form a close friendship that turns into so much more. Charlie needs to learn how to forgive herself and open up to the possibilities of love. Reese needs Charlie just as much.

Teardrop Shot by Tijan is an emotional story that proves the heart is capable of so many kinds of love. Love is all that matters.

“Ione has made a major name for herself with her amazing Demonica series.”
~ Romantic Times Book Reviews

Lyre watched Cipher try to get his powers and wings under control for just over twenty-four human hours.

It hadn’t gone well. His wings seemed to have minds of their own and his fallen angel gifts were powerful but unpredictable, like natural disasters spawned by a child’s imagination.

Finally, after he exploded a tree with a superheated stream of blue light and nearly fried himself with the blowback, she called down to him.

“You hungry?” she yelled. “Because I could eat.”

He let out a frustrated shout accompanied by a stomp of his foot, and a crack appeared in the ground under the sole of his boot. A deafening boom and a slow rumble started up, and within seconds the crack lengthened and began to widen as the walls collapsed and chunks of earth tumbled into the fissure.

That couldn’t be good.

“Run!” she shouted

He sprinted toward her, away from the growing gap. And then, suddenly, he spun around and ran toward it.

“Cipher! No!” What the hell was he doing?

She extended her wings, ready to go after him as he leaped across the fissure. He wasn’t going to make it to the other side of the sheer cliff face. Not if his wings wouldn’t work—

His great wings flapped, lifting him easily skyward. He banked and soared in a glorious, elegant arc. A shout of pure joy rang out as he flew toward her, reminding her of the excitement she’d felt the first time she’d tried out her fallen angel wings. Hers had taken a year to grow, but it had taken only minutes to get them working. Cipher had to be thrilled to finally have his under control.

Folding her own black leather wings against her shoulders, she watched him come in for a landing, but as he did, one wing went rogue, freezing in a closed position. He clipped a tree and went into an unrecoverable spin before hitting the ground and tumbling to a stop next to her.

She coughed at the resulting cloud of dust. “That was graceful.”

He eyed her from where he lay sprawled in the dirt. “Tell me you got that on video.”

She didn’t want to be charmed, but she laughed anyway. Humor was something she missed since entering Sheoul. No one had a sense of humor here. And those who did seemed to have found it puddled on the floor of a torture chamber.

“No such luck,” she said.

“S’okay. But I’ll bet it would have gone viral.” Wincing, he shoved to his feet and tried to push his left wing into the retraction position. “I don’t get it. I can’t control these things. It’s like they’re fighting me. They don’t feel right.”

They didn’t look right, either. Marred by what seemed to be scars and ragged edges, they weren’t like any newbie wings she’d ever seen.

“Hmm. Maybe they were damaged by the restraints.” She moved around behind him, silently admiring his broad, muscular back. It would look even better with scratch marks from her fingernails after a long, sweaty round of sex.

Michel’s Review

It’s hard to believe the Demonica Underworld Series is still going strong after eleven years and 21 Books & Novellas. Readers have taken the adventure to the underworld and witnessed the battles between the ruling demonic hierarchy as well as the near end of the world. The Four Horsemen have made their presence known and the Apocalypse almost came to pass. Some of Heaven’s warrior angels and fallen angels are desperately trying to hold the world as we know it together while keeping Satan and his minions at bay. The only positive thing happening within both worlds is the fact that Satan has been imprisoned for over 1000 years in an inter-dimensional prison. There are only three angels who hold the secret key to release him from his prison. Azogoth, the grim reaper, who is in charge of Sheoul-gra is one of those angels. Releasing Satan would be the end of humanity along with the end of the world.

There is a dark sinister plot within the realms of hell and Sheoul-gra to release Satan. Two of Satan’s faithful followers, also fallen angels, are carrying out a plan to bring Azagoth to his knees and force him to surrender the key. They have kidnapped one of his fallen angels to gain access to secret information in order to force Azogoth to surrender to their will.

Cypher is a brilliant fallen angel who works in Sheoul-gra for Azagoth. His job is maintaining records and data within all the realms. Cipher not only writes the computer codes but he can also hack any secret codes available in all realms. Bael and his brother Madoc believe they have the perfect incentive to force Cypher to break Azagoth’s secret files. They have recruited fallen angel Lyre to seduce and break Cypher.

Lyre is a fallen angel for a reason. She wants revenge against certain residents in heaven. Her only hope is working for the evil fallen angels in Sheoul to get what she wants. What she didn’t count on was the goodness radiating off of Cypher. No matter how severe the torture is, he never breaks. She’s starting to rethink her stance and regrets her actions after she fell. The longer she is around Cypher the more she wants to help him. Time is running out. They need to get to Sheoul-gra and warn Azagoth. They need to stop the evil at all costs even if it damns their own souls for eternity.

Love is the only thing that makes makes hell bearable. Love is the only thing that will give them the strength to escape.

Escaping is only a reprieve… the war is coming. Evil may try to defeat Azagoth but they don’t call him the grim reaper for nothing. No one messes with Azagoth or those under his care!

Larissa Ione has kept the Demonica Underworld fresh and exciting. Every time I think this series is close to an end she throws in a whole new twist that makes the Demonica world expand. This complex series has dynamic characters that are intense, charismatic, sexy, humorous, and downright scary. I can’t wait for Reaper to unleash on October 15, 2019. Everything we thought we knew about Azagoth is just a blip on our radar. He is coming to claim our hearts and souls. I am not running… he can take me down his fiery path.

 Michel’s Review

I have become a huge fan of author Claudia Burgoa. She has a gift of creating an interesting and emotional story with very compelling characters. Her gift of tapping into the emotional reservoir makes her stories more personal for every reader. I was excited to review My One Regret.

The first chapter of the book completely captured my attention. I became engaged with Sadie’s predicament. My heart was breaking right along with her even though I didn’t know the back story or the emotional journey that led to that moment. I just knew she was beyond hurt, she was crushed. The one thing I also knew is that she was going to survive the heartbreak because she was a strong woman and her core values would be her strength.

The story begins with a heartbreak but evolves back to the beginning when their love was new and fresh. From the moment they met to the moment they parted both Sadie and Kade were deeply connected and committed to one another. They gave each other their hearts completely. Sometimes romantic love is not enough. As human beings we are not meant to love just one person. There are different kinds of love, different kinds of relationships, and different responsibilities that go along with each relationship. Kade already had a family. His children were his first priority. His professional lifestyle had almost destroyed his relationship with his daughters and contributed to the breakup of their family unit. He has worked hard to become a responsible and supportive parent. When he’s forced to choose between his daughters and the love of his life, he makes the impossible decision. Now he has to live with his choice.

When he gets the horrific phone call and has to face the possibility that he may lose Sadie forever he begins to re-evaluate his life. Kade is in for a real eye opener and may end up living with regrets.

Claudia Burgoa once again held me captive. I love her intuitive sense of what readers want in a love story. A love story is more than about romance, it’s about life and the people who surround us daily. It’s about give and take, sacrifice and acceptance, and most of surrendering our hearts to someone else regardless of the outcome. Claudia Burgoa truly understands love.

Prologue

Freshman year

Delaney

Welcome to Magnolia, Mississippi, where locusts are as big as your hand and iced tea comes with a double helping of sugar.

It’s also home to the best damn annual bonfire party at prestigious Waylon University, which is currently happening right now in the middle of a cotton field.

But…

I shouldn’t even be at this party.

It’s mostly for Greeks and jocks and popular people, yet here I am, a mere freshman, hanging out with my bubbly redheaded roommate, Skye.

“See?” she says as we take in the bonfire. “Isn’t this better than watching cat videos on a Saturday night? What do you want to do first?”

I sigh, feeling nervous. Ever since I moved here from North Carolina, I’ve been pushing myself to try new things. Might as well put a crazy college party on that list. “Let’s get a drink.”

She claps and excitedly replies, “Done. Alcohol at two o’clock.” We weave through the crowd, headed in that direction, and eventually we reach the bar, which is really just a long collapsible table someone set up. On top are various bottles of alcohol, and I grab the Fireball to pour shots. I’ve just tossed mine back and set down my cup when a prickling sensation washes over me, giving me goose bumps.

My gaze moves across the crowd, stopping on a tall guy with dark blond hair, broad shoulders, and a cocky smile. Aha. He’s been staring at me, and now that he’s caught, he raises his glass as a half-grin crosses his face.

I blush wildly as I adjust my black cat-eye glasses. I’m not used to such blatant male attention.

Skye—who’s followed the trajectory of my gaze—spits out part of her drink. “Oh my God, do you know who that is?”

“Obviously I should,” I say dryly.

Her mouth flops open. “You really need to get out more.”

My eyes drift back to him but keep moving as if I’m not staring. “So who is Mr. Hottie McParty Pants?”

“If you don’t know him, you don’t deserve to know. But, he’s H-O-T—like Chris Hemsworth hot. I dare you to flirt with him.” She wiggles her eyebrows at me, knowing full well that for some reason, I can’t resist a dare. Normally rather reserved, a dare gives me permission to be someone I’m not.

So does Fireball. I sling back another shot.

“I’ll bring you a donut every day for a week if you flirt with him,” she adds, watching me.

My ears perk up. “The ones with edible glitter?”

She nods, and I toss a quick glance back to him. Our eyes collide again, and a zing of connection fires between us. He has a strong, handsome face and a stance that has masculine written all over it. A smile tips up his full sensuous lips, and—

Two brunettes—twins, no less—approach him, one on either side, and wrap their arms around his waist. He smiles down at them. Oh. Well then.

I turn back to Skye and frown. “Player. Not interested.”

She waves her hands in my face. “He likes you—I saw it on his face.”

I snort. “Probably gas pains. Your dare is not accepted.”

We hear our names being called from the other side of the party and turn to take in the helmet-haired Martha approaching us, which is taking some time due to the fact that she’s wearing stilettos and a slinky halter dress. She carefully picks her way through the crowd, nudging people out of her way—sometimes rudely—as she focuses on us. Great.

“Incoming mean girl,” I mutter under my breath.

Like us, Martha Burrows is a freshman and lives on our floor. Rather full of herself, she announced within a week of meeting us that she’d no longer answer to anything but Muffin, a nickname she’d given herself.

She eyes us both, a look of superiority on her pretty face. “I didn’t know you two were invited to this little shindig. Obviously, I know all the right people, so I’m always invited.” Her gaze zeroes in on my outfit and she rears back. “What on earth are you wearing, Nerd Girl?”

“Clothes.” I stiffen at her name for me as I tug on my fitted Star Wars shirt and the pleated red miniskirt I made from a man’s shirt. My long pale blonde hair is up in curled pigtails, and I went a bit heavy-handed with the shimmery eye shadow and red lipstick. It’s not your typical look for WU—which is anything monogrammed—but I’m learning to ignore the raised eyebrows.

Skye, the peacemaker among us three, clears her throat and nods her head at the guy who’s been staring. “Delaney has an admirer, but she doesn’t know who he is.”

Martha-Muffin follows Skye’s gaze, eyeballing the mystery man over my shoulder. She gives me an exasperated look. “That’s Maverick Monroe, you idiot. He’s the biggest football star in Mississippi and the freshman recruit of the year. Word is, though, girls like you aren’t his type—not at all.” Her hand flicks a stiff honey-colored curl over her shoulder.

My teeth grind together. “Martha, if you think I care what you think about me and whether or not a quasi-famous football player is interested in me, then you are confused.”

Her lips tighten. “It’s Muffin now, and why do you have to use such big words? What does quasi even mean?” is her cutting reply.

Skye’s eyes get as big as saucers, and I assume it’s because Martha-Muffin and I are about to finally have it out. I can’t stand her, and she can’t stand me. We just…clash.

But that isn’t what has Skye in such a titter.

She points over my shoulder, and I get it.

It’s the person standing behind me, the one I can’t see. I feel a nervous sneeze coming on and—thank God—I somehow push it down.

A husky voice reaches my ears. “Quasi means seemingly or supposedly. What she means is I’m probably not a famous football player but rather one that’s been highly touted but is without merit.”

Oh, shit. The voice is rich and smooth with just enough southern drawl to make a girl swoon. He also sounds halfway intelligent.

I turn around slowly. Mr. Tall, Blond, and Football is right in front of me wearing a cocky smile.

How in the hell did he get over here so fast?

You know that moment when everything stops and the next breath you take is the first one of the rest of your life? That’s what it feels like as Maverick Monroe stares at me with his piercing blue eyes.

I glance down and take in the sculpted chest and hard biceps.

I look back up and see a chiseled jawline that’s defined and lined with a slight scruff. I see the thin pink scar that slices through his left eyebrow, and it does nothing to detract from his appeal.

He’s perfection.

He’s air.

Which I desperately need right now, because I can’t breathe.

He smirks, as if reading my mind, and I scramble to pull myself together. Someone calls his name—it’s a girl’s voice, probably one of those twins—but he doesn’t budge.

His eyes rove over my skirt, glasses, and lips. “The question is…do you even know what makes a good football player?”

“Nice hands?”

His lips twitch. “Hardly.”

“A tight end?” I smirk, feeling sassy…which is weird. I don’t know who I am right now, but it’s like my mouth has a life of its own, saying things I normally wouldn’t.

Martha-Muffin chokes on her drink at my remark and Skye watches me with glee, clearly excited that I have the attention of someone who is apparently very important at Waylon.

I put my hand on my hip. “The question is…why do I need to know?”

“You don’t. All you need to know is I’m the best.”

I suck in a little breath at his arrogance.

A guy walks past us and claps him on the shoulder. “Badass game last week, Mav. Rock on.”

“Thanks, man.” Maverick acknowledges the compliment and lifts his chin, his eyes never straying from mine.

“What position do you play?” I ask. “Quarterback?”

He smirks. “Middle linebacker—defense.”

“Sounds fancy.”

He laughs.

Skye, who’s been eavesdropping unabashedly, sighs with a dreamy expression on her face. “His stats are the best in the country.” She clears her throat. “I-I only know that because my brother is a huge fan, I swear.”

“Hi, Maverick,” Martha-Muffin says as she edges closer to him, nudging me out of the way with her sharp shoulders. “Remember me?”

He focuses on her. “No.”

She glowers. “I was in your dorm room with your roommate last week. You said hello to me.”

He shrugs. “A lot of girls come through. I can’t remember them all.”

Oh. My. God. He is arrogant, but I like how he just shut her down.

Martha-Muffin’s face reddens and she mutters something under her breath, flips around, and flounces off. Good riddance.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see Skye is drifting away too, giving me a thumbs-up.

Whatever. I am not going to flirt with this guy…am I?

He’s definitely got something about him, something that makes my body buzz. I tilt my chin up, taking in how tall he is. He has to be at least six-four.

His gaze drifts over my face. “You know there’s a legend here at Waylon about our famous bonfire party?”

“Oh?”

He smiles, a flash of white on his handsome face. “Legend says the first person you kiss at the party is the one you’ll never forget. It might be years later, and still their face is the one you dream about.”

“Sounds like hocus-pocus.”

He lifts that mesmerizing left eyebrow. “I like to believe in legends—after all, I am one.”

I smirk. “Probably a game made up by some frat-boy-slash-jock wanting to kiss all the girls.”

He pauses for a moment as if thinking, and then he steps in closer, so close that I can see the varying shades of blue around his pupils. “May I?”

My heart does somersaults.

“May you what?” I ask, my voice low, but I know what he wants. My body is already leaning toward him, wanting it too.

“This.” He kisses me, an almost imperceptible touch as he brushes his full lips against mine. The contact of our mouths is electric, sparks of fire skating along my skin.

As if from a distance, I hear someone calling his name. It’s a female, and she’s pissed.

It’s one of the twins probably.

And I’m jealous.

But, I don’t look. We pull away, and I stare at him as he stares right back. A stillness settles over the party, although I don’t think anything’s actually changed. The music is still playing. People are still talking. Beers are being passed around.

Yet…

We’re connected.

Two stars in the black velvet sky.

Two ships passing in the night.

Oh, fuck, stop the nonsense, I tell myself.

“What was that?” I ask, my voice breathless.

“That’s your first kiss of the bonfire. Now you’ll never forget me.”

And then, before I can think of a reply, he’s gone.

I watch him go back to the twins, frustration coiling inside of me as I exhale.

It would be two years before I kissed him again.

Michel’s Review

I Dare You by Ilsa Madden-Mills was just the kind of book I needed. I love the new adult romance genre and love a good sports romance. I Dare You was the perfect combination of fun loving coed romance but at the same time very emotional journey.

Ilsa Madden- Mills has a gift of creating characters that come to life. The creative dialogue and sassy passages are just as exciting as the sizzling hot sex scenes. What I liked best about this book is that it had meat to it. This book was not only featured a romance but also highlighted some heavy financial issues many college athletes endure. Trying to survive the expenses of life while trying to maintain the athletic scholarship guidelines is almost impossible when real life comes collecting. Trying to find the right solution led to some other questionable circumstances. The solutions were not ideal but they also opened other doors.

Ilsa Madden-Mills always delivers and exceptional reading experience. I double dare you to read I Dare You by Ilsa Madden-Mills and not walk away feeling good!

Release Blitz + Review: Lucas by Sawyer Bennett – Cold Fury Hockey Series – Book 8

Lucas (Cold Fury, Book #8)
Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: September 19, 2017

Synopsis:
The Carolina Cold Fury hockey team is stacked with hotshots. But when a new player joins their ranks, he learns that even superstars can’t go it alone when it comes to love.

Lucas Fournier is only serious about one thing: hockey. The league’s fun-loving charmer, Luc is always up for a good prank or a great lay, and he has no intention of settling down. But being traded to the Carolina Cold Fury—and to play alongside his big brother, Max—is no joke. With another title in sight, the last thing Luc wants is to let his new teammates down. To succeed, Luc will need to keep his head in the game and the most . . . er, demanding member of his anatomy in check. But when temptation hits, Luc hits back harder.

Museum curator Stephanie Frazier has always put business before pleasure, which just about explains her nonexistent sex life. But when Stephanie meets Luc at a champagne-fueled gala, she finds herself flirting like crazy—and going home with the uninhibited athlete. For one night, she learns what passion is all about. She just never counted on the little surprise Luc leaves behind. And that’s when things really start to get . . . interesting.

The Carolina Cold Fury hockey team is back in full force.  They are not only shredding the ice in the play offs, they are also shredding our hearts one player at a time.  Sawyer Bennett has created a team of men that are melting the readers hearts and leaving them wanting more.

Lucas Fournier is thrilled to be a part of the Carolina Cold Fury team for many reasons, not only is he playing on the ice with his brother Max, he is also part of an exceptional hockey organization that believes in the importance of family as well as winning the cup.  It’s a win win situation.  Being one of the few single guys on the team is also a bonus, it’s a guarantee of more available ladies to choose from.  He’s a single guy and has no intentions of settling down anytime soon.  Let all the other players enjoy their family time while he reaps of the rewards as a single player. It all begins to change when he meets Stephanie Frazier at a museum benefit. He’s thrilled that he is available and that she wants a one night hook up with no strings attached.  Best night of his life. Best sex he’s ever had.  The sex was so good that he shredded the condom like he shreds the ice. He’s not overly concerned that the condom broke because Stephanie has the same mantra he has and is going to take the morning after pill.  All is good and he wouldn’t mind another hook up with Stephanie but knows it will never happen. As I said all is good until Stephanie shows up one month later to inform him the morning after pill didn’t work and she’s definitely pregnant. Neither one of them wants to settle down.  Neither one of them planned on becoming parents at this stage in their lives.  Neither one of them is sure how to handle the situation but they are both sure they want this surprise baby.

Stephanie Frazier is a free spirit.  She has focused on building her career and has no intentions of ever settling down.  She’s happy with her single life and is fine with one night hook ups.  Hooking up with Lucas Fournier was fun, thrilling, and the best sex she ever had.  It was a night to remember and a night to never repeat.  The morning after pill should of taken care of the condom mishap.  As fate would have it, she’s the one in a few that the pill doesn’t work on.  Now she’s facing becoming a mother and doesn’t have the first clue what to do.  She has no concept of loving family relationships or nurturing parents.  The one thing she is sure of is that she wants this baby no matter what Lucas Fournier does.  To her complete surprise Lucas is on board with having the baby and co parenting.  He’s willing to help out in any manner and is extremely supportive of her choices.  She’s not sure what to do with that because she’s never had anybody put her needs first.

Max and Stephanie begin as tentative friends trying to maneuver their way into the parenting role.  Their sexual chemistry is through the roof and they both have a healthy sexual appetite.  The problem is neither one of them knows how to be in a relationship. As time goes by Lucas wants more than Stephanie is willing to give.  Stephanie is frightened of all the emotions being around Lucas brings into her life.  She’s pushing Lucas away and Lucas is pushing harder.

Sawyer Bennett once again delivered another win for the Cold Fury Hockey Series.  The play offs are just beginning and there are some key players wanting their time to play on the Cold Fury pages.

Jensen Monroe is a unicorn. As handsome as any model, as polite as can be, a goalie of unmatched skill, and the best friend anyone could ask for. But he longs for a particular special someone to make his life complete. He’s been in love with Wren since he was a teenager, but as his best friend’s sister, she’s always been off-limits.

Wren Lemiere has prided herself on being a love ’em and leave ’em girl her whole life. She’s all about equal opportunity in the battle of the sexes. Why should guys like her brother and his best friends get to be the only ones allowed to play the dating game? One wrong move, however, and she finds herself in violation of her own rules.

In need of a fake husband and baby daddy for her unexpected bundle of joy, Wren finally accepts Jensen is the logical one to ask for help. Except he has a counteroffer…one with so many strings attached, they may just find themselves wrapped up in ties that bind. Forever.

Excerpt

Brie snickered as Vaughn went on. “I know this is going to be hard. Like, really hard on you. But, buddy, I’m sorry to say, we bought a house.”
Jensen just stared back at him. “Okay? Why is this hard?”
“Because you’re not moving with us.”
He rolled his eyes. “Jo, we haven’t lived together for six months since you moved in with Brie.”
“I know, but we were across the hall.”
Jensen laughed. “I’ll be fine without you guys—”
“Now, I know this comes as a shock, but we’re having a baby, and we need space for us and the baby.”
“I know—”
“Now, Jenny, I know this is going to be difficult, putting space between us—”
“You know we lived apart for years, right?”
But Vaughn went on. “Just know I will always and forever love you as my brother, and nothing will change. Not the space, the new ball and chain, or the baby.”
“Are you done?”
Brie apparently thought this was hilarious since she was basically choking she was laughing so hard. Which wasn’t anything new. Vaughn might be an idiot, but he was a funny one. As always, Vaughn was unaffected as he said, “We’ll never be done, Jenny, never.”
“Okay,” Jensen said, rolling his eyes again. “Listen, this is awesome. I’m happy for you guys, and let me know when we need to start moving stuff.”
“You’re such a good man,” Vaughn proclaimed before clapping his hands together. “This weekend good for you?”
Laughing, he just shook his head at Vaughn’s antics. “Yeah, man.”
“Thanks, Jensen.”
He smiled over at Brie. “Anytime.”
Rolling his eyes, he went back to eating as a grin played on his lips. He wanted nothing more than for his friend to grow and be in love. Brie was that for Vaughn. They were moving and having a kid, and it was great. Vaughn needed that. So did Wells, who was getting married the following month. Both his best friends were living life, happily and to its fullest. Meanwhile, Jensen was stuck.
He didn’t know how it happened, or even why, but it had. He wasn’t interested in anyone he met, and he didn’t just want to fuck around. He wanted someone to love him for him. The quiet, weird guy in the corner. The one who would lay down his life for anyone he loved. He had redeemable qualities, but for some reason, no one wanted them. They just wanted to have sex.
He didn’t want Netflix and chill; he wanted Netflix and breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and more.
Hmm, he should copyright that.
Taking a huge bite of his chicken, he felt his phone start to vibrate. He pulled it out, seeing that it was a text from Wren, as he chewed. Like always when she texted him, his heart sped up, and his palms went clammy as a lump formed in his throat. Or maybe that was the chicken, he wasn’t sure. Either way, he slid the notification over so that his text thread with her opened up before he read her message.
Wren: Are you free anytime this week?

Michel’s Review

The Assassin’s are back proving they are first class champions once again.  In The Crease by Toni Aleo is the twelfth book in the dynamic Assassins hockey series.

Wren Lemiere, the team psychologist finds herself pushing thirty, happily single, and unexpectedly pregnant.  She never wanted to get married let alone become a mother. She can deal with the unexpected pregnancy and becoming a mother but what she cannot deal with is the circumstances it leaves her in.  She could lose her inheritance if she has a child out of wedlock before she turns thirty.  She’s depending on this inheritance not only to make her life better but also give her brother the share he lost when he openly declared he was gay.  The baby daddy is out of the question.  He is a douche.  She has to find a husband fast.  When she turns to her childhood friend Jenson Monroe for help, her life once again takes an unexpected direction.

Jenson Monroe agrees to marry Wren but on his conditions.  He’s loved her most of his life and sees this as his only opportunity to prove his love.  Wren has serious issues and she’s going to be hard nut to crack.  He wasn’t named the top goalie in the league because he backed down, he’s focused, determined, and willing to wait for the right moment.

Wren and Jenson both have their issues from the past but Wren’s are emotionally paralyzing her.  Jenson has his work cut out for him but he’s determined to win the happily ever after.

This is not the typical contract marriage with a baby in the works kind of romance.  This is a story of two very real people struggling with issues from their past.  One is much more well adjusted and the other is denying it all.  Add other family dynamics such as a gay athlete marrying the wrong man, a father denying his son’s sexuality, a mother trying to fix it all with the perfect wedding, parents with health issues, and a best friend who is also a hockey player that has no filters and the book gets much more interesting.  In the end the happily ever after becomes a choice for them all.  Toni Aleo has another winner in the Assassin’s playbook.
