Synopsis

WARNING: This novel contains explicit language, sexual situations, and is the story of an addict. This material is intended for a mature audience.

“My name’s Jag Steele. I’m the lead singer and guitarist to the band Pandemic Sorrow, and I have a drug problem. Well, I mean it’s not really a problem – unless you count the fact that I almost made my heart explode from all the blow I shoved up my nose a few weeks back…”

That was my introduction during my first stint in rehab. I’m messed up. If you asked anybody who I am there’s a list they will go down: Famous, rock star, legend, drug addict, womanizing man-whore, but if you asked me, I wouldn’t have the first idea of what to say, because I don’t know who Jag Steele is. Really, I’m living every other damn person’s dream, and all I want is reality.

Roxy Slade, that girl was my reality. My brutally flawed and beautifully broken reality. And she hated everything I stood for. To her I was just one of “those guys”, and she’d rather be buried alive with poisonous snakes than give someone like me a piece of toilet paper to wipe their ass with. Brutal. Life. Is. Brutal. And it is just a giant pain, which is why I chase after anything to make it numb, anything that can fill this void. I just want anything that can make me not feel. I just don’t want to feel.

Lis’ Review

“I was too weak for fame, but she didn’t care. She broke me, and I tried to let drugs mend me…. I like to think of fame as a metamorphosis. You get all wrapped up in it, almost like a cocoon… I had no idea how to handle fame, so, unfortunately, fame handled me.”

Jag Steele is a rock god.. just ask him. He’s the lead singer of Pandemic Sorrow, he’s got more money, fame, and females than anyone should have, and he thinks he’s invincible. You want to cheer for him when you meet him at the beginning of the book. He’s just come out of rehab and he’s feeling pretty damn good about himself. Sure, rehab was a breeze and life is still his oyster. He’s not an addict, he’s the king of the rock world. So what’s a little snort, one more drink, he’s been “cured” hasn’t he? We go with him to his first real interview after rehab, where simple questions are so damn difficult to answer that he starts to fall apart, and we see the tip of the iceberg that is Jag Steele. Through this book, we live his life as he does, desperately seeking that one thing that will make it all worthwhile.

This book is not the sugar-coated version of life as a rock star that seems to be the norm in books. Stevie J. Cole has written a gritty story, complete with characters you actually hate. The way she paints the scenes, you are as excited as those four young men were when they got the record contract; you are as desperate as the band manager who forces drugs on his musicians to keep the money coming in; you are as bitchy and self-serving as Jag’s former girlfriends who each chip away at his very soul in order to make themselves important. And finally, you rejoice with Jag when he finds the one female who says no, the one who says she doesn’t want him yet needs him to mend her shattered soul as much as he needs her to do the same.

Roxy has her own demons, her own issues, and while she starts out as kind of a cliché, the challenge that Jag can’t resist, you just know that Ms. Cole is not going to wrap this all up in a big pink bow with happily ever after. Her suffering is just as real as his, her issues just as serious and her coping mechanism just as destructive. Both of them are like two lost children in adult bodies, trying desperately to deal with the world until they literally crash into each other. What attracts them to each other is the exact thing that tears them apart… the inability to deal with their feelings.
“Everybody’s broken, chipped, damaged, and we just have to find the one person that can accept our flaws and love them… Sometimes it takes loss to make people realize how big of a mess they are without someone.” As Jag experiences love for the first time, as Roxy allows her hard shell to crack, betrayal shatters everything. Ms. Cole doesn’t shy away from the ugly side of addiction so you never really know what to expect with the story of Jag and Roxy until the very end. As a reader I laughed, cried, cursed, loved and hated through this book. And yes, even felt the numbness of Jag’s life, all through the exquisitely crafted word pictures the author gave me. I felt it all, right along with the characters, every outrageous high and screaming low. I cheered and cried and in the end I would read it all over again just to be able to say Yeah, Jag Steele always keeps his promises.

Author Bio:

Stevie J. ColeI have been a fallen angel, a vampire, a confused twenty-something year old struggling through a crappy job, a jealous and deranged x-lover of a damned soul, and currently I’m an internationally sought after rock star with a slight addiction problem. All thanks to the characters I have written.

I enjoy the escape writing allows, and fully enjoy weaving a tale and creating crazy characters. When I’m not writing I am cuddling with my two sweet little girls and listening to my husband play his guitar (swoon). Some trivial fact about me would be: I love the color pink, I adore sloths, and I have a thing for British accents. My biggest fear is completely irrational, but I can’t help it. The thought of the pending zombie apocalypse absolutely creeps me out.I honestly can not imagine a more horrifying way to be blotted out of existence than by the hand of a decaying, oozing corpse with festering gums and clicking teeth. Ugh. That just gave me chills.

I hope if you read my books you will enjoy them and will be sucked into the little world I have created with words. After all, writing is the most amazing magic trick in the universe because it allows the reader to crawl inside the mind of the author. If you really think about that … it’s kind of disturbing.

Crimson Ties Blog Tour

Title: Crimson Ties

Authors: VL Moon and JT Cheyanne

Series: Crimson Reign, book #2

Pages: 794

Synopsis

Not everything in Heaven is as holy as it seemsÖ

In Crimson Ties, the second installment of the Crimson Nights Saga, Laziel is nowhere to be found, and with the ferocity of Malachi Denaliís vampiric temperament growing out of control, Romeís Vatican enclave and those that dwell there risk everything to keep their Kingís throne out of Darklon De Sangueís treacherous hands.

As Darklonís mental state deteriorates, his treasonous plans to overthrow Malachi know no bounds. With Arial dancing upon a deadly double-edged sword and working to gain Darklonís trust, this continuing saga keeps everyone on tenterhooks as new treaties are strengthened and friendships are forged by oaths and blood.

Will Laziel return in time to save Malachi from those that threaten the male he loves, or will the fury of Malachiís distain for emotion see Laziel ascend if he refuses to accept the hand that destiny has dealt him and the gift of his angelís love?

With emotions running high, and Malachiís past turning up to haunt them both in the form of the mysterious Vischeral Bourne, the twists and turns may prove too much for Laziel and his vampire. While Malachi and Laziel struggle with fate, an alliance with the wolves and the secrets behind the Nephilim and their sadistic Queen threaten to rock the very foundations of the supernatural world.

Who knows what ties will bind and which will fade away.

With a high element of supernatural romance and erotic sexcapades between male lovers, Crimson Ties may not be to some peopleís taste, but for those brave enough to step into the wicked world of Laz and Lachi, we hope that you will read and thoroughly enjoyÖ

Lis’ Review

The story of Malachi Denali, king of the vampires, and his Angel Laziel continues in book two of the Crimson Nights series. Crimson Reign was a roller coaster ride.. Crimson Ties is an explosion of emotions as the ride crests the peak and hurtles down the steep tracks into the abyss. Every chapter will leave you with your mouth gaping open, struggling to hold on as one powerful event after another propels you through the story. It’s exciting, it’s terrifying, and you just can’t wait for more.

Book One set us up in the world of the vampire king and his enclave beneath the Vatican in Rome. We met his Angel, his court, his allies and his enemies. Book Two gives so much more detail on all the characters as the complex plot to bring down Malachi by the very evil Darklon unfolds. And that’s what makes this book so exciting. As we learn more about the characters who were secondary in book one, we begin to see the ties that bind them all together. These authors have woven a story pattern that tightly connects Vischeral and Copi, Tobias and Roman, Arial and Bastien, Celix and Clariel and of course the ever-cool Ms. Stroner, who somehow manages to bring order to the chaos around her. Crumbling enclave? Just step over the rubble. Disagree with your boss? Call him out. Emotions so strong they create cataclysmic battles between vampires and fallen angels? She strides through it all with an elegance that catches everyone’s notice.

Lachi and Laziel/Lorenza are the main characters, but Visheral and Copi stole my heart. I laughed at their banter, tapped my foot at their reluctance to come together, cheered when they realized the love they both felt and cried at the way it all turned out. Tobias and Roman are the couple that romances are made of.. sweet, loving, and playful, the complete contrast to Vish and Copi’s intense, conflicted yet powerful connection. Angels of every kind pop up in this story, from the Fallen to the celestial, the Nephilim to the guardians. There is evil to balance out the angelic: Darklon’s depravity, and the Nephilim Queen’s sick torture lead us to two giant suprises that ultimately affect just about everyone in the book.

Each character’s development brings us right back to the epicenter of the story… Lachi and Laziel. Different types of love, different ties that bind, but through it all we strive to discover what exactly will happen with the vampire king and the angel who deserts him in order to gift him with the ultimate symbol of a profound love. .. their child. This book is a must read if you want to experience the terror of true evil, the exhilaration of non-stop action, and the power of love. All these make up the Crimson Ties.

Synopsis

A pulse of light preceded the gift of life breathed into the coldest and darkest of souls. Bathed in the glow of celestial love and swathed in a blanket of black satin wings nestled a king among kings, a vampire born to destroy the decay threatening to eradicate the race he was destined to save.

Review: Sister Golden Hair by Juli Page Morgan -Illicit Series- Book 1

Sister Golden Hair

Sister Golden Hair

Illicit Series – Book 1

2cb3f-add-to-goodreads-button

By Juli Page Morgan

Synopsis

Recently widowed and newly jobless, 42-year-old Rhett (yeah, she knows that’s a man’s name) Davis has a major life decision to make. She can either stay in the little Texas town where she was never really accepted, driving the same old beat-up Dodge and sliding toward genteel decrepitude, or she can buy a Jag, get some highlights, ditch the frumpy clothes, and strike out for the big smoke of Dallas. Hey, she never liked that Dodge, anyway.

The one thing she’s not looking for in the Big D is romance, but when her upstairs neighbor turns out to be the delectable and very single Rhys James, frontman for the band Illicit, Rhett decides that she just might give this love thing a shot…assuming she remembers how to go about it, that is. It doesn’t take her long to figure out that Rhys is anything but a predictable, paint-by-numbers sorta guy. Music is his mistress, and she’s not good at sharing. Throw in a scheming ex-wife and a demanding daughter, and Rhett’s quest for her old crush’s heart just got a hell of a lot harder.

But Texas women don’t scare easy. And Rhett will be damned if she lets this English Rock star go without a fight.

by Lis Kellam

Okay, I admit it. I bought and read this book for two selfish reasons. One, it was written in third person so I knew I would get both sides of the story in one book. And two, the heroine is 42 years old. And what a refreshing read that was! Maybe because I can identify with Rhett and Rhys just a little bit better but I was ready for a story that dealt with themes a little closer to home.

Juli Page Morgan didn’t disappoint at all. This book was well-written, telling a great story in a way that brought out the emotions of it all. From Rhett’s hesitant steps back into living after being widowed, to Rhys’s heartbreak at discovering the betrayal that takes him away from the woman he’s come to love, every emotion is brought to light in a great story that made me feel like I was right there with them, experiencing every triumph and heartbreak along the way.

Rhett is a three-dimensional woman, with fears, dreams, and toughness, all of which we discover right along with her. Rhys is smokin’ sexy hot, and for the first time in a long time he gave me that thrill of excitement as he seduced Rhett with his confident, sensual ways. There’s humor in Ms. Morgan’s descriptions, there’s glamour in her depictions of the rock stars she writes, but there’s also real situations, real family dynamics and realistic depiction of the life of a hugely successful rock band. The secondary characters had distinct personalities of their own, and I hope we get to see more of them in the next book.

This is a must-read and I cannot wait for book two in the Illicit Rockers series.

Lis’ Review

She is color, he is blackness. She is light, he is dark. She parties to hide her fears. He built walls to hide his broken life. They are total opposites. And perfect for each other.

In Real, Katy Evans introduced us to Brooke and her friend Melanie, the bold one, the loud one, the life of the party. Melanie’s the one who shouted out to Remy when she took Brooke to see the fight. Melanie’s the one who gave Remy Brooke’s phone number. She wants everyone to be happy, she exudes that happiness, a happiness she’s created for herself and those around her. But Melanie has fears and a deep dark secret or two that no one knows. Until Greyson comes along.

Greyson King is Zero.. so emotionless he’s nothing. A stone cold enforcer for the Underground who has Melanie in his sights. She’s on his list, and it’s not like Santa’s list of good little boys and girls. He goes through this list, hitting his marks one by one in an effort to find out the one thing he’s searched for all these years. Yet with number five, with Melanie, he finds so much more. And in the end, the list becomes meaningless when they uncover each other’s secrets, nearly losing everything they both want in the process.

Katy Evans’ writing is amazing. Every word, every sentence opens a well of emotions. She doesn’t just describe the characters’ feelings, she paints them in a three dimensional way that envelops the reader inside them until you are living and breathing them, laughing and crying them, holding your breath and then gasping them right along with Melanie and Greyson. Her style leaps off the page and you live each and every passionate embrace, cry every tear, tremble with every fear and suffer every heartbreak. It’s gut-wrenching yet so artistic in its creation of unforgettable characters.

This story of the happy go lucky best friend and the dark and mysterious bad boy (and he is soooo bad in every way) is a definite must read. You get both points of view in one book, a complete story that will only make you realize, as Melanie does, that you just can’t live without the Rogue.

5 Star ReadLis’ Review

Hail to the King! When I finished this book, my first thought was WOW! The story of Malachi Denali, king of the vampire race, and Laziel, his angel, is a roller coaster of complex emotions. The king is not an easy male; he’s arrogant and dominating in every aspect. His dark nature makes him feared by all who know him, respected by many and loved by only one, the angel whose sole task is to guide, protect, and love the dark king. Laziel is far from our normal image of an angel; his halo tilts at a very rakish angle as evidenced by his smart mouth, his sexual and sensual nature and single-minded focus when it comes to protecting the vampire king. Theirs is a symbiotic relationship, as both Laz and Lachi need the other to survive. There are complex layers to their story and by the end of the book, with the twist that makes the reader’s adrenaline pump and the inevitable “Oh NO!” echo as the story draws to a close, you come away with a feeling of needing the next book NOW.

The secondary characters are just as complex and so well drawn they practically leap off the page. Vischeral and Copi intrigued me from the start and I cannot wait for their story. Darklon’s animosity toward Lachi is almost tangible and the connection he has with another character will be a gut-wrenching clash of – I almost said good versus evil but by the time we get to it Lachi’s paper thin patience may have worn away. Roman is the reluctant son, Tobias is the alpha wolf in a vampire world, Arial is a fallen angel who you just know has a secret story waiting to be told, and Kimberly is the human female caught in the whirlwind that is picking up speed and intensity as the story progresses. It’s not an easy read, but so worth it. These two authors have upped their game giving us the first book in a series that will keep us coming back for more.
