Whenever I wake up with a hangover, I often ask myself why I drank so much and promise that I’ll never do it again. That promise is something I’ve been breaking for the past few days, and up until now, I didn’t care.

I had hoped the booze would muddy my memory of last night, but it hasn’t. Every word she said, every expression she had, every punch to my chest to get me out of her apartment is crystal clear. I fucked up, and I don’t even know how. All I know is that the sobs I heard on the other side of Saylor’s door last night were enough to sober my stupid ass up.

For hours, I sat against her door, until a resident suggested I leave or they were going to call the police. If I hadn’t been arrested ear- lier, I probably would have encouraged them to dial Boston’s Finest. Another man might understand my plight. The woman that I want to be with kicked me out of her house, and while I probably deserved it, I didn’t want to leave until she stopped crying. I didn’t want to be the one to walk away in her time of need.

But as egos go—and believe me, mine is huge—I couldn’t let it get in the way any longer, so I walked my drunk ass back home with my tail between my legs, only to stay up all night while the booze wore off, knowing that I had to live with whatever I’d done to Saylor.

She’s the last person in the world who I want to hurt, and she’s the one person who can save me. Not only from a life behind bars, but from myself. When I’m with her, I’m a different person. The cocky son of a bitch whom everyone is used to doesn’t exist when she’s near me, and frankly, that is the man I like, or at least I used to. It’s easier being a fucking douche. It’s second nature to me and comes with the territory of being named one of the city’s most eligible bachelors.

Except when I’m with Saylor, I can be the man who hides in the shadow of that Travis Kidd. I can be the kind of man who doesn’t have to have a one-liner available or wink in order to get a phone number. When I’m with her, life outside of baseball starts to have a meaning, a fucking purpose.

Michel’s Review

I have been waiting for the big score in the Boys of Summer Series by Heidi McLaughlin. Grand Slam, the third book in the series, scored big with me.  This story had the kind of content I knew Heidi was capable of delivering.  It was a page turner that kept me engaged with the characters lives and budding relationship.

Travis Kidd is the known “player” on the team.  His reputation with the ladies is well earned.  Even though he is a habitual flirt, there is only one woman he really wants.  The woman he wants is off limits because she is part of his management team.  Saylor Blackwell is the impossible catch until his life spirals out of control.  With nothing to left to lose and everything to gain, Travis finally makes his move.  It could ruin Saylor’s career.  It could ruin Saylor’s perfect life.  Playing the game to win is worth taking risks as far as he is concerned.  What Travis doesn’t realize is that it is more than her job on the line.  His actions could cause her to lose the only thing that matters.

Saylor Blackwell knew she made a mistake when she had a drunken one night stand with Travis Kidd a year earlier.  She has spent the last year trying to keep her mistake from spiraling out of control.  But when Travis lands himself in the hot seat and his career is on the line, she will have to make choices no woman should have to make.

Both Saylor and Travis lives are spiraling out of their control.  They both have issues that are not easily dealt with.  Their issues could ruin their professional and personal lives.  They can’t stay away from each other but they can’t stay with each other.  Their situation is a mess and someone is going suffer a big loss.  Is it worth it?

I don’t want to say much more because I don’t want to give away spoilers.  I will say that Heidi McLaughlin really came out swinging with Grand Slam.  Both Travis and Saylor have their own issues to deal with while trying to hang onto their professional lives.  Love isn’t going to be the fix all for them.  They have to dig deep and figure out how to hang on without destroying each other.

I absolutely loved this book.  The only thing that kept me from giving this book five stars is my insatiable need for details.  While Saylor and Travis issues were resolved in the end, the wrap up was a bit too vague for me.  They both had different antagonists in their lives creating havoc. The vague details such as the motivating factors as to why the antagonist chose to pursue their actions against Travis and Saylor to the quick wrap up of what happened to the antagonist after Saylor and Travis made their winning play. It didn’t feel completely resolved in many ways.  As you read the book you will understand what I mean.

 Overall Grand Slam was a fantastic book and I could not put it down.

“You’re too beautiful,” I tell her. I run my thumb along her jaw. “Too fucking beautiful.”“I’ve missed you. You’re the best man I’ve ever met.”

My stomach clenches and I shake my head. “Don’t think that. It’s a lie. It’s what I wanted you to believe. Don’t bring that lie into tonight.”

“How was it a lie?” She grins up at me, and I know a full confession would erase all the happiness from her face.

“When we were together before, I wasn’t the man you thought I was. I wasn’t good.” It’s the closest to the truth I’ve ever given anyone about my past.

“So you don’t want me believing you’re good?”

I pull her hips tightly against me as I exhale in frustration. She still thinks this is some kind of joke. “I’m different now, but then…”

She lifts onto her toes and flicks her tongue against my ear. “Don’t be so different. I like you a little bad.”

I groan and stop dancing. I don’t know how much longer I can do this without diving over the line. “Is that permission to stop being your friend?” I’m obsessed with knowing if she tastes as sweet as I remember. I’m faintly aware of the soft beeping of the passing floors as I slide my hand up her skirt and cup her between her legs. She gasps, and I rub my fingers over the damp lace of her panties, teasing her swollen flesh.

When the elevator stops and the doors slide open, she grabs my wrist and holds me still. “Please,” she whispers in my ear. “Please. Don’t stop.” Then she tilts her hips and rocks against my hand. I couldn’t refuse her if every person in the hotel was watching us.

Michel’s Review

It’s no secret that the Blackhawk Boys Series by Lexi Ryan is one of my favorite new adult, sports romance series. I have loved the three previous books in this series because of the dynamic personalities, the tight knit friendships, and the complex innovative plots. There’s so much more in the series than college football players dealing with campus life and future career prospects.

 

The latest release, Falling Hard, the fourth book in the series took me by complete surprise. First of all, Keegan Keller was not the kind of person I presumed him to be. The initial impressions from the previous books were somewhat misleading. Keegan Keller is probably the most complex guy within the group of friends.

 

Falling Hard begins after the guys have graduated college and moved onto their professional lives. Keegan never thought he would play for the NFL and pursued other career ventures by purchasing a bar. He ended up in the NFL when he was signed on after the season began. He’s now in Florida trying to manage his football career, manage his business from afar, and manage his family life. He is a single father trying to manage his shared custody of his daughter. He will do anything for his little girl. He has tried to make things work with Olivia, the baby mama, so that his daughter will have a complete family. Olivia has her own agenda and it doesn’t include Keegan as her future husband.

 

Mia and Asher (from Spinning Out) are hosting their engagement party in Las Vegas. While attending their celebration Keegan runs into an old girlfriend from his past. I can honestly say this is the best book in the series. This book was a second chance romance. I loved how the book gave readers a look at the past and the present from both Emma’s and Keegan’s POV. The readers were able to see their growth as individuals as well as their maturity in handling their second chance at love.

 

Falling Hard by Lexi Ryan is the best in series to date!

Leave it to Rachel Van Dyken to be bold enough to write about cheaters.  She’s even more daring when she makes it a comical event rather than a devastating heartbreak.  The biggest risk she takes is creating a swoon worthy romance that makes the readers fall for the no good, dirty rotten cheater.  She has the readers rooting for his redemption and begging for his happily ever after.  What makes it all the sweeter is there is loads of creative revenge and a whole lot of sexy groveling before our no good cheating hero finds his redemption.  Just remember there are two sides to every story.

Dr. Thatch Holloway is more than what meets the eye.  This complex man is more than a self serving plastic surgeon making a name for himself one breast at a time.  As he has learned from his profession, beauty and perfection are not always on the surface.  It’s what lies beneath the surface that brings the outer beauty to life.  The one perfection he has found is Austin Rogers.  She is beautiful in every aspect.  He would do anything to protect that beauty, even if it means protecting her from himself.  Dr. Holloway has his secrets, those secrets could destroy Austin.  He uses the only kind of arsenal he knows to drive her away.  What he wasn’t prepared for was her creative vengeance.

Still staring at my blank phone screen, I stumble toward the door and of course I walk straight into someone. Of course. Because to- day is going to be shitty in every possible way. Luckily, I manage to avoid getting chai latte on either of us; it barely spills over the lid and only dribbles onto my hand.

“I’m so sorry!” I say at the exact same time she does, and I look up to see a familiar face staring back, but I can’t place it.

She blinks azure eyes and then her whole face lights up. “Zoey?

Zoey Quinlin? Oh my God!”

She’s hugging me before I realize what’s happening. I wrap the hand not covered in latte around her back and return the embrace. She pulls back, still holding my shoulders, and smiles. “Holy crap! It’s been over ten years! Oh my God.” She pauses and glances around before adding in a softer voice, “It’s Dixie. Dixie Braddock. You used to babysit me at my family’s summer cottage in Maine. You were friends with my brother, Jude.”

“Holy shit! Dixie Braddock?” I can’t believe it. The last time I saw her she was thirteen. Wheat hair; pink, suntanned skin; freckles across her nose and chronically scabbed-up knees from trying to keep up with her older sisters and brother, who were all daredevils on their bikes and skateboards and surfboards. Babysitting them—well, the girls, anyway—for the two years I lived in Maine was a highlight of my summers. And so was seeing their brother. Shit, I hadn’t thought of Jude Braddock in a while. I find myself smiling now that I am.

“You live in San Fran?” she questions as she takes my elbow and leads me over to the counter and hands me a napkin for my latte- soaked hand.

“Yeah. Stayed local after college,” I explain as I put down the latte and wipe my hand. “And you live here?”

She nods, her sleek blond bob moving like a curtain around her face. She looks close to the tiny thing I babysat but much more refined and beautiful now. I do the math: she’s only twenty-four, but she looks more put together than any twenty-four-year-old I’ve known.

“Yeah. I went to school for sports media, then interned with the San Francisco Thunder hockey team, and they hired me full- time this year.” Her eyes dart around, and her voice drops again. “Jude plays for them, so I use my mom’s last name, Wynn, so no one thinks he got me the job. He didn’t.”

“Jude is in San Francisco?” I don’t know why I felt the need to say that with such breathless shock. I knew he made the NHL, but I had thought he was playing in Milwaukee. That’s where he was last time I Googled him, which was three years ago, before I married Adam.

“Yeah. Got traded a couple years ago,” Dixie explains. “So how’s your family? Where’s your dad preaching now?”

“He’s retired. Mom and Dad are in Sacramento,” I explain. “My brother, Morgan, is a teacher here in San Francisco.”

“Morgan!” She laughs and her cheeks turn a little pink. “Sadie, Winnie and I had such a crush on your brother when we were little. Remember we used to keep begging you to invite him over when you were watching us?”

I nod and can’t help but smile back. Yeah, that memory hasn’t faded. The Braddock girls wanted my brother to come over, but I never invited him. Not because he was gay, which I already knew at that point, but because if Morgan was around, he would tease me about gawking at Jude, which I always did if he happened to come home before Mr. and Mrs. Braddock’s date night ended.

Dixie glances at her phone in her hand, and I realize we both must have been looking at our screens when we collided. She frowns. “I have to go. I have a meeting at the arena in twenty.” She puts a hand on my arm again. “But I would love to catch up with you, and I know Winnie and Sadie would too. They’re going to be in town this weekend. Would you be able to do brunch?”

“Yeah, I can do brunch,” I reply and am shocked at how excited I am at her suggestion. I haven’t really done much of anything social since the separation. I kind of lost touch with a lot of my friends after marrying Adam and adopted his circle of friends. And they all promptly orphaned me after the separation. I didn’t care much because I didn’t feel up to social interaction, but suddenly this seems like a pleasant distraction from my reality. The Braddock family was one of my favorite parts of my childhood.

“Amazing!” Dixie almost squeals. “How about tomorrow. Eleven?”

I nod. “Where?”

“You pick.”

“MKT?” I blurt out because it’s in my hotel and I’m too flustered to think of anything else. To be honest, I don’t even know what they serve for brunch.

“Great! Sadie loves that place, and she’s normally impossible to please.” She hugs me again. “See you tomorrow! Winnie and Sadie are going to be so excited!”

And then, before I can even lift my hand to wave, she’s back out the door. She never even got a coffee, but she doesn’t seem to notice. I’m more dumbfounded and confused than I was from the phone call with Minerva. The Braddocks are here. Well, at least Jude and Dixie are here. In San Francisco. Where I live. When the hell did that happen?

I look around the coffee shop to make sure there’s no one else from my past lurking around. A teacher, a neighbor, another sister of an old unconsummated love. Although Jude was my only unrequited love, but he did have three sisters. Whom I will be having brunch with tomorrow. Crazy!

I slip out of Peet’s and concentrate on the clicking of my heels as I make my way back over to my office. I finally take a sip of my jostled latte. It’s barely warm but the caffeine still manages to clear my head a little. Not enough that eagle-eye Marti doesn’t notice something is up.

“Everything okay?” she wants to know as she stands at her desk, gathering things she needs for her day and placing them in her bag. “You look more out of it than you did before the coffee.”

“I ran into someone I haven’t seen in a long time,” I murmur, and for some reason Jude’s seventeen-year-old face floats through my head, not Dixie’s from this morning. “The last time I saw her was in Maine eleven years ago, so it was surprising.”

“Wow.” Marti takes a break from filling her Michael Kors satchel with listing flyers. “Small world, huh? I love when that happens. Unless it’s someone I hate. Was it someone you hate?”

“No. Not at all,” I reply and drop down gently into my seat. “She and her sisters were sweethearts. Seems like they still are. I’ll definitely find out, because I’m having brunch with them tomorrow.”

“Cool.” Marti isn’t paying attention anymore. Her eyes are focused across the room on Parker McDavid, who is the owner of our company. He’s midforties, tall with a dad bod that is oddly at- tractive, probably because he covers it in perfectly tailored designer clothes. His dark hair is graying in all the right places, like George Clooney’s, and his eyes are warm and his smile is kind. But he’s an astute businessman who expects a lot from his Realtors, and Marti is constantly trying to impress him. I am too, if I’m being honest, but I’m new. She’s not new, but she’s still hungry.

“I’m going to tell Parker about the deal I just closed, and then I’m off for a condo showing,” Marti explains and barely even waves good-bye as she hustles toward the kitchen Parker just disappeared into for his morning croissant and English Breakfast tea.

I open my laptop and pull up my email, determined to keep my mind focused on work. I need to send a follow-up email regarding the potential Haight listing, but my brain is bouncing from Adam to Dixie.

One future encounter I’m dreading—confronting Adam—and one I’m looking forward to—seeing the Braddock sisters. But the one that isn’t destined to happen is the one that fills me with excitement I haven’t felt in a long time—the potential that since I’m meeting three Braddock siblings I might also run into the fourth: Jude.

 

Michel’s Review

Victoria Denault has scored big and totally won my heart with her new hockey series, The San Francisco Thunder.  I loved everything about this book, from the romance to the dynamic secondary characters.  This book came to life and all of the characters had my complete attention.

Jude Braddock is the living, breathing, sex god of the San Francisco Thunder.  Not only does he score big on the ice, he also scores big with the ladies. His bedroom moves are legendary.  His “hockey stick” is an internet sensation.  So how could a man of this caliber have women problems? Very easily, he hasn’t been discreet nor has he been careful with his tryst.  Women are showing up on his doorstep, his phone is ringing all hours of the night, and his sexual escapades are on the internet.  Maybe it’s time to move and become more discreet, The one thing he won’t do is settle down to one woman.  That is until he runs into his sisters ( the sorority) former babysitter, Zoey.  Zoey is the one girl that got away.  This time around he’s going to make sure he catches her and doesn’t ply her with Boones Farm wine.  This time he’s doing the seduction right.

Zoey has just split from her husband.  The divorce procedures have turned quite nasty.  She’s working her tail off trying to establish a new career in real estate while trying to hang onto what is rightfully hers.  When she runs into her childhood friends, the Braddocks, it makes life seem a little better.  Reuniting with old friends is what she needed.  Hooking up with Jude Braddock is a bonus.  First she has to finalize her divorce and get her feet on solid ground.  She also needs to stay away from Boones Farm wine at all cost.

Zoey and Jude are doing more than rekindling an old friendship.  They are falling in love, but it’s going to take a miracle before either one admits it.  Miracles are known to happen.

I absolutely loved every moment in this book, from the snarky sorority sisters to the team dynamics,every character added something exceptionally special to Zoey and Jude’s romance.

I have read every novel Victoria Denault has written.  Score is my favorite book thus far.  Her growth as a writer and character development has excelled by leaps and bounds. I can’t wait to see what comes next in the San Francisco Thunder series.

The Bird and the Sword Chronicles saga continues with the second release, The Queen and the Cure by Amy Harmon.   I was quickly drawn back to the land of Jeru and their journey into a new era.  This book can be read as a stand alone novel but I would highly recommend reading the first book in the series.  It gives the reader a richer and more in depth reading experience.

The gifted are no longer the outcasts of society.  They no longer have to live in fear.  Like most things change takes time.  It takes courage to take the first steps.  It takes courage to stand out among men.  Kjell of Jeru can walk into battle and defeat any enemy.  He’s fearless but accepting his gift as a healer is another story.  He has taken too many lives in the past without thought, how can a man of violence have the gift of healing.  And what is the cost of using this gift.  He no longer knows who he is or where his place among the new kingdom of Jeru is.  He may be the bastard son of the king but he is not royalty.

When Kjell is sent by his brother, King Zoltev, to finish off the birdmen, he doesn’t realize that this quest is more than a expedition for the king. It is his destiny.  When he saves a girl from death and takes her visions to heart, it is the beginning of a journey that will once again change the world as he knows it.

Without giving away any spoilers, this book is another epic tale that is more than a fantasy adventure.  Amy Harmon once again delivers a moving story that illuminates the human spirit. I could not put this book down.

Michel’s Review

Badd To The Bone by Jasinda Wilder is the third book in the Badd Brothers series.  This book is quite different from the two previous Badd Brothers books.  First of all, most of the story takes place outside of Ketchikan, Alaska.  There is very little of the Badd Brothers and their family dynamics in this book.  In fact, Badd To The Bone is not really a Badd Brothers story even though Brock Badd is the hero.  This is Claire Collins story and it’s a doozy.

I have gone back and forth on how to rate this book.  I have deleted several drafts of this review.  I have struggled with my reactions to this book because it was not one of my favorite Jasinda Wilder books.  I honestly did not like the heroine Claire Collins.

Although the Badd Brothers series is more in the erotic romance genre, there was almost too much sex.  At times I felt like the sex was overshadowing the story and it started to get too predictable and a bit boring. In many ways Brock Badd seemed like a sexual puppet dancing to Claire Collins whims.  Usually at this point I put the book down or start skimming to the end.  What held me back from doing so was my faith in Jasinda Wilder as a writer.  I knew she had more to tell the readers.  There was more to Claire than her nympho tendencies and kinky fantasies.  There was something hiding beneath the surface, something bigger than her daddy issues and relationship issues.  As the story unfolded and revelations about Claire’s past come to light, it is only the beginning of Claire’s journey.  A very broken woman striving to piece herself back together one tear drop at a time.  It takes courage to face the demons that haunt your soul.  It takes even more courage to put them to rest and take that first step towards a healthy future.

I admired how Brock Badd was willing to fight for the woman he loved.  He knew he couldn’t fix her but he could hold her together when all the pieces of her soul were shattering beyond her control.  He gave her the courage to finally heal.

This is why I gave this book 5 Stars.  Jasinda Wilder took a very harsh character on an emotional journey that brought her the right kind love in the end.

I am looking forward to heading back to Ketchikan, Alaska for more Badd Brothers romantic adventures.

The Mayson boom has detonated once again! Sage Mayson didn’t see the explosion coming, but all of us readers did!  We have been waiting for this book.

It’s been quite obvious that Sage Mayson and hairstylist Kimberly Cullen have a history.  They have been tip toeing around each other in the last few books.  It’s been quite clear that there are some hard feelings and a bit of hostility where these two were concerned.  To harbor those kind of emotions, there has to been some very valid reasons.  While the circumstances may have developed and come into play in the previous books, the cause and effect become very clear in Until Sage.  Unlike the other books, readers are going to see some serious Mayson groveling, a man on a mission to win his lady’s heart after he destroyed her.  Never fear, Sage is a Mayson, he has that magical Mayson quality that is going to make Kimberly’s ovaries explode.  She won’t make it easy on him. After all she has to protect her heart and take care of her own well being.

Without giving any spoilers away, this book was surprising.  The impressions from the previous books were only a small fraction of what was to come for Sage and Kimberly. I will say that once these two finally got together, it was emotional and very tender.  It is a must read in the Until series.

Aurora Rose Reynolds has delivered another swoon worthy explosive romance.

The Brooklyn Bruisers are back and heading into the playoffs for the Stanley Cup.  The next few months are going to be a grueling, time consuming, and demanding on every level.  Forget having a personal life, time for friends, and real time with family.  Put all the problems aside and focus on the game.  The cup is within reach, it’s worth the sacrifices made.  The players for the Brooklyn Bruisers aren’t the only ones making the sacrifices.  Their support staff and families are feeling the crunch as well. The last thing Lauren Williams wants is to be working with the Brooklyn Bruisers, especially during the play offs. She hates hockey and hates the time demanded by the team.  Stepping in as the assistant to the Bruisers owner is one thing, spending all her time with the team is another. How can she do her job and avoid the team? There is one player in particular that she will avoid at all cost.  Goalie Mike Beacon ruined her life, broke her heart, and left her hanging out to dry.  She will never let that happen to her again.  She learned the hard way and still carries the scars from being burned.

Mike Beacon never forgot the passionate year he spent with Lauren.  She was his everything, the reason his heart beat.  He had his reasons for leaving her and returning to his wife and daughter.  It wasn’t because he didn’t love her, he had a responsibility to his family.  He had to make sacrifices in order for them to survive what was to come.

Lauren is back in his life.  She’s back with the team.  He’s more than determined to win her heart and keep her by his side this time.  This is the most important win of his life, she’s more important than the Stanley Cup and the team.  The only thing standing in his way is Lauren’s stubbornness and his teenage daughter’s attitude. He’s the toughest goalie in the league and conquering the two women in his life is the hardest game he’s ever played.

Once again Sarina Bowen had my full attention.  In the two previous books of the Brooklyn Bruiser series, readers were given a very distinct and different impression of Lauren Williams.  She was not a very likable or impressionable character.  Sarina let the readers become intimate with the real Lauren hiding beneath the surface.  The woman loved with her complete heart and was badly burned.  To make matters worse, the repercussions of the break up were more than most people could bear.  It’s no wonder she hated everything about hockey.  What impressed me the most was her strength of character, her sense of morality, and her drive to become a better person.  I loved that she didn’t let heartbreak ruin her, she embraced it, moved on and made a good life for herself.  She was a classy woman to be admired.  It’s no wonder Mike Deacon was hopelessly in love with her.

I highly recommend Pipe Dreams by Sarina Bowen.  It can be read as a stand alone novel or in series order.  The Brooklyn Bruisers are out to win your heart.

Kevin had occasionally done something that reminded me of myself, but next to a DNA test, I still had no valid proof he was my brother. Nothing that connected us as family.

“Oh yeah?” Dre asked, amusement in her sleepy tone. She yawned and cinched the sash of the sexy little robe she was wearing that showed off those amazing legs of hers. “How are you so sure?”

I stepped back and pointed down to Kevin’s massive cock. “Because of that!”

Dre’s sweet laughter filled the air. I picked up the hose again and started to spray Kevin down. “Shit man, that’s cold!” he shouted, dancing around in the grass. “And are you gonna fill me in on what exactly she’s laughing at?”

“That,” I informed him, spraying his crotch with water. “Because I just found more proof that we’re brothers than the fact that we think we both were shot out of the same cunt.” I grinned from ear to ear.

“Okay? And what’s that?” Kevin asked. I turned off the hose and Dre tossed him a towel.

I dropped my eyes to the huge slab of man meat between Kevin’s legs. “From the waist down we’re not just brothers, we’re fucking twinsies.”

“Uh, what the fuck, Preppy?” Kevin asked, putting his shorts back on.

“Quick,” I said. “Tell me something. How do you feel about pancakes?”

Kevin shivered. “Honestly, I’m more of a waffle kind of guy.”

Dre gasped.

I shut my eyes tightly, clenching my fists at my side. I cracked my neck and slowly turned to face him. I opened my eyes. “What the fuck did you just say to me, boy? You better start running.”

“Wait, what?” Kevin asked, taking a step back and tripping over the sprinkler. He stood up and bolted through the gate. I chased him through the field while Dre looked on and laughed.

“I take it all back! You’re not my brother!” I shouted, tackling him to the ground and sitting on his chest.

“What the fuck, Preppy?” Kevin asked, squirming under me.

“You and I need to have a serious fucking talk.” I leaned down until my nose was almost touching his. “About the abomination that is waffles.”

It was a bittersweet moment when I opened Preppy Part Three: The Life & Death of Samuel Clearwater by T. M. Frazier.  I knew this was the final book in the King Series and I was going to have to say goodbye to one of my most beloved book characters of all time. Preppy, aka Samuel Clearwater, is a thief.  He stormed into the book world, jumped off the pages, and blatantly stole the readers hearts with no apologies or regret.  He was ruthless with his extreme optimism, odd sense of humor,  quirky fashion sense, unique code of ethics, and his unquestionable dedication to those he loved.  Was he a good guy? The general rules of society would say no.  He was a criminal, a killer, and psycho. But as we all know, the definitions of good and bad can be loosely interpreted. A person can possess both of those qualities, it’s all about how they portray and use those qualities that matter most.  Preppy was ruled by his pure heart.  He loved unconditionally. Receiving his love was like a ray of sunshine in the midst of a hurricane.  He died for those he loved.  He lived to make their world a better place ( by Preppy’s definitions of better).  He was the HEART of the King series.

As the rest of Preppy’s story unfolds, it is another wild ride in the gator infested waters. Preppy has become a true husband and father.  He’s discovered he has a younger brother by blood.  He’s catching up with the world that moved on while he was dead and is finally finding his place in that world.  He’s found himself again and now he’s the new and improved Preppy.  The new Preppy is a bit more cynical and a lot more dangerous. When unknown enemies try to harm his family, he’s going to do more than kill them.  He’s going to make them bleed one drop at a time and feed them to the gators.

It all begins with Dre being kidnapped and his brother Kevin surfacing.  He doesn’t know who his enemies are because most of them are dead by King and Bear’s retribution or by his own hand.  He not sure who he can trust other than King and Bear.  The only thing he can focus on is protecting his wife and son.

As the danger escalates there are many shocking revelations about the past.  Preppy intends to redefine the past and rewrite the story.  King and Bear have his back no matter what.  Dre loves him unconditionally.  Bo is his reason for building a future.

This is the testament of Preppy’s life.

T. M. Frazier created a series that readers couldn’t get enough of.  It was more than a dark romance series, it was an ongoing story of dedicated friendship, deep rooted ties to family, conquering the world, and unconditional love.  Preppy was the HEART!

Although this is the final book in the King series… it is not a goodbye.  Preppy will live in our hearts forever.
