The Rough Riders Hockey team is back heating up the ice. Dirty Score by Skye Jordan is the third book in the highly addicting hockey series. I could not wait to dive in and watch another bad boy player melt.

Rafe Savage is the Rough Riders most notorious player. He’s a legend on the ice as well as in the bedroom. The puck bunnies are lined up to be Rafe’s next dirty score.

Rafe embraces his reputation with the ladies. It’s not because he’a an egotistical sex god. It’s because he is in love with a woman he can never touch. He’s in love with his best friend and teammates little sister. A woman he grew up with. Her family embraced him as a kid and made them one of theirs. He cannot betray the only people that ever cared for him.

Mia has lived in the shadows amongst the men in her life. Her older brother and Rafe have been the center of attention all of her life. Their hockey lessons, academic status, and hockey careers have been the forefront of her stepfather, Joe’s, attention. Skye Jordan wrote another fantastic book for the Rough Riders Hockey series. I loved the forbidden best friend’s little sister relationship. It was red hot, fun, and full of great characters. The Rough Riders Hockey series has scored big with me. I can’t wait to see who melts the ice next.

Holiday Heat: The Men of Starlight Bend has five delightful holiday romances. The release timing was perfect to get readers in the holiday spirit and to showcase all the goodness of the human spirit. These past few weeks have been very disheartening. We have witnessed an ugly side of humanity because of political differences. This collection of holiday novellas is a testament of all the positive traits in mankind. The spirit of giving, sharing, and compassion is the theme. These themes should be remembered throughout the year rather than only at the holiday season. It was a purely delightful reading experience.

Five authors penned holiday stories about the residents of the small town Starlight Bend. A local sporting store has a Christmas Wish Tree where residents can select a paper ornament and fulfill a wish for a child in need. The recipients of the wish tree are not the only ones receiving a special gift. The adults are also going to receive the gift of love and the opportunity of second chances.

Each author wrote a heartwarming story that stood uniquely on it’s own. The stories also brought a sense of community. Each story had a different theme. Second chance romance, a hardened cowboy, a damaged and scarred man that lost his faith in humanity, and life choices that could change their world. The one common factor is the power of love.

I enjoyed each and every story and could not pick a favorite. Holiday Heat: The Men of Starlight Bend is the perfect way to start the holiday season. Each story is novella length and can be read in a short amount of time. It’s perfect for the busiest time of year.

Hands.

Two huge hands covered with leather landed on her driver’s side window. Haley stared in frozen shock as they slowly slid down the glass.

They were a giant’s hands, likely belonging to whatever crazy man lived in the middle of nowhere alone, waiting for city girls like her to blunder into snow banks. He’d haul her out of the car and drag her into this silent landscape, never to be seen again.

The hands returned to scrape off another layer of snow. Then a head, covered except for its eyeballs, bent to peer inside her car. Haley shrieked.

“You can’t jump.”

She narrows her eyes on me. “Of course I can.”

“Is it safe?”

My grip on her grows tighter and she steps close enough that I can feel the heat of her breasts brush against my ribs. “Lucas, do you trust me?”

“No.” The word comes out on a shaky whisper.

A gentle grin softens her face and with both her hands she works to relax my hold enough for her to slip free. Seconds later she turns, takes four long strides, and disappears off the rock cliff.

A holler that can only be described as guttural exhilaration echoes off the canyon walls and slices through the trees.

I race to the edge and there’s nothing but a circle of white bubbles marring the once shimmering pond.

Michel’s Review

Wow… Split by JB Salsbury was fantastic. It was different from the run of the mill cookie cutter romances. The broken hero suffers from multiple personality disorder. The heroine is accepting of both personalities. She looks beyond the surface to see the man that is surviving the only possible way that he can after the life he has led.

A beautiful love story that is filled with compassion and sensitivity. A thought provoking novel that gives the reader more than a romance. To complete the package the author adds a mystery and explosive conclusion.

JB Salsbury delivered a compelling novel that kept me glued to the pages. I highly recommend this book!

I stroll toward the bedroom but come to an abrupt halt at the threshold. For a second, I can only gape at the sight that greets me. It’s so shocking, I turn around to check whether there are cameras rolling and I’m being punked.

“Why are you looking about like that?” Gabriel drawls, not taking his eyes from the TV.

“Just checking to make sure I hadn’t wandered into an alternate reality.”

“Amusing as always, Darling.”

Who could blame me for being suspicious? Gabriel Scott is out of his suit and wearing a soft, gray long-sleeve thermal and black sweats. This is shocking enough—but at least I’ve seen it before. I’m so happy, I have to fight grinning like a loon as I kick off my shoes and crawl onto the end of the bed. “If I were to punk you, I’d change out all your suits for polyester.”

At that, his eyes finally slide to mine, and his skin actually pales. “That’s just cruel, Darling.”

“Stop calling me that.” I steal his spoon.

“It’s your name.”

“Are you sure that’s what you’re calling me by?” I ask suspiciously, as he moves his bowl out of reach.

“What else would I be doing?” There’s a glint in his eye that leads me to answer in a sing-song voice.

“A term of endearment? Declaring your undying lurve for me.”

His nose wrinkles. “You’re going to put me off my pudding.”

“Pudding? Is that what you’re eating?” I lunge for the bowl, but he’s too quick, and I end up sprawled across his chest.

We both go still, me clutching the spoon in one hand, my other palm pressed against the firm swell of his pec, him with one arm still outstretched, his other one pinned beneath me.

His breathing goes deep and strong as he peers down at me. My attention drifts to his lips, beautifully sculpted and softly parted. How would he kiss? Would he start off slow, taking little nibbles, testing the waters? Or would he be the type to go all in, possess my mouth with his?

Heat floods my body, fluttering through my belly.

Gabriel’s lids lower, and his breath catches.

In the background, someone is shouting Buffy’s name. It’s enough to snap me out of whatever fog that touching Gabriel has pulled me into.

“You smell like apple pie,” I whisper inanely.

His gaze darts from my mouth to my eyes. “It’s crumble. Apple crumble.”

“Why did you call it pudding?”

“It’s what we Brits call dessert.” He’s still staring at my mouth. Dessert indeed.

My lips part, sheer lust making them plump. “Give me a bite.”

With an audible swallow, he slowly takes the spoon from my hand. I don’t look away from his eyes as he scoops up a bit of the crumble.

The spoon shakes just a little. Cool metal slides over my lower lip, and hot crumble fills my mouth. I barely suppress a moan, my lips closing around the spoon as he slowly draws it back out. He grunts in response, a short, helpless sort of sound that he quickly smothers.

Michel’s Review

I have been sitting on pins and needles waiting for Managed by Kristen Callihan to release. After reading Idol, I became very intrigued with Gabriel Scott. The man was a complete mystery. On the surface he is a suave, debonair gentleman. He is an extremely organized manager for the mega rock band Kill John. He handles their professional and personal lives with complete ease and extreme competence. On the surface he seems to be unapproachable and distant. He very rarely shows his emotions. But once in a while the exterior shell slips and lets some of his emotions bleed out. Those moments prove that he is very human. He is deeply dedicated to those he cares about. He will do anything for them. The guys from Kill John take this to heart. Scotty has been their devoted friend longer than their professional manager.

A long international flight with a zany woman sitting beside him is not how the unflappable Gabriel Scott intended to travel. He despises flying. He loathes being out of control. He booked two first class seats for a reason and now this zany woman is occupying one of them.

Sophie Darling is flying to London for a job interview. She’s elated that she was bumped up to first class until the sexiest, stuffiest man sits beside her. I am not going to say much else because of spoilers. I will say these characters were perfect for each other. The yin and yang. The dialogue was fun, sassy, snarky, and thought provoking. This book had a very emotional story that was delivered with a light hearted ease that made me enjoy every aspect of the book.

It was a pure DELIGHT! It was everything and more that I was hoping for! I am head over heels in love with Gabriel Scott. I want to be Sophie Darling.

Heidi McLaughlin is one of my favorite authors. I have been reading her books since she first hit publish on her first novel. She has a special gift of creating an emotional story with dynamic characters that keep the readers glued to the pages. We become invested in the characters lives within the world she created. Whether it be a rock star, a Navy Seal, a reality television star, or a cowboy, the character grabs hold of the heart. With her latest release Blow, readers are introduced to the dynamic boy band Virtuous Paradox. We have all had some kind of girl crush on a member of a boy band and have fantasized about them. We sometimes forget that these beautiful young men are also ordinary people with very real lives behind the image. They have their insecurities, personal demons, struggling relationships, and lessons to learn in life. The difference is that their lives are very public. Their mistakes are elevated by the media. It’s a high price to pay.

Bodhi McKnight is a cocaine addict. He has reached the point of self destruction. His family has intervened and sent him to an exclusive rehab for thirty days. Not only will Bodhi have to face his demons and overcome his addiction, he will have to learn to love himself. He will have to learn how to deal with his relationships in life whether it be family, friends, or his professional colleagues.

While in rehab he meets Kimberly Gordon. Kimberly is not a counselor, she is an assigned friend to help him cope with the withdrawals and the grueling process of becoming healthy. She’s there to offer support and friendship.

Bodhi and Kimberly break the cardinal rule and become involved. Once the thirty days is over they will have to face the real world. Can their forbidden relationship survive in the real world? Can it survive the world that led Bodhi to addiction in the first place? Can love heal Bodhi?

While I liked the premise of a forbidden romance , I also felt this book mocked the process of rehabilitation from drug addiction. One of the crucial steps in becoming healthy is honesty with oneself as well as others. Kimberly encouraged Bodhi to lie while in rehab so that they could be together at night. She encouraged him to sneak around rather than encouraging him to follow the program. She is an employee of this rehab center. She knows that in order to become healthy the patient has to complete the steps of the program. I also felt Bodhi’s rehab was skimmed over and became insignificant after the initial withdrawals.

The relationship between Bodhi and Kimberly was very touching in many ways but some of the sex scenes turned me off. I love a dirty talking man but there are just some words that are a complete turn off for me. When Bodhi used words such as cunt or twat, I was appalled. Those are two of the most derogatory words used in a negative manner towards women in general. The sex scene went from sizzling hot to ice cold.

Blow still has a good romantic story that many readers will like. For me I was on the fence with this book. I tend to want a little more grit to the story. After all drug addiction is a dark and dirty subject.

All In by Emma Scott is the second book in the Full Tilt Duet. It should not be read as a stand alone novel. It is the sequel to Full Tilt.

I knew when I downloaded this book I needed to wait for the perfect time to read this book. I needed to read this book when I was alone and could allow my emotions to explode. I knew it was going to emotionally wreck me after reading Full Tilt. I was a blubbering mess and went through a big box of tissues. I felt like I lost one of my own.

A sequel to a book with such a moving story is very hard to follow up. Like the characters in the book, the reader is also afraid to move on and let go. I’m sure it is the same for the writer. Emma Scott did a wonderful job with All In. She took great care with all of the characters without diminishing one moment of the first book, Full Tilt. She wrote a story about real life and very real emotions every human being will experience at some point in their life. She handled each moment and each emotion with great care. That is what makes this duet a 6 Star Publication.

All In begins shortly after Full Tilt ended. After losing Jonah, the Fletcher family, his close friends, and Kacey are buried in their grief. The loss affected everyone quite differently but was felt deeply by all. Even though Jonah left his legacy in the art world, his greatest legacy was the deep abiding love he gave to those he cared most about. He touched each of their souls and left the best part of himself with them. How can they go on after losing a man that touched them so deeply?

Kacey could not handle losing Jonah. Her grief has consumed her. She had to leave Las Vegas because every where she turned she was reminded of Jonah. Instead of embracing the support and sharing her grief, she fled to New Orleans. She has returned to burying herself in the bottle and is back on the path of self destruction. She can’t get past the loss, she can’t completely grieve because she can’t deal with her emotions. Her life is on a downward spiral to rock bottom. Thankfully there are a few caring people in New Orleans that contact Theo Fletcher.

Theo Fletcher is still grieving his brother’s death. He has always been the rock in the Fletcher family. He stood by Jonah’s side during his illness. He attended every doctors appointment, made sure he followed his health care regimen, and helped him finish the art installation. He’s lost without his best friend, his brother Jonah. Now he’s going through the motions to fullfill one of Jonah’s wishes, to open his own tattoo shop. He’s back in school taking business courses. Once again Emma Scott had my full attention and engaged every emotion. I was a blubbering mess and felt I was living my life alongside of Kacey and Theo. I felt their loss, their fear of letting go, and most of all their fear of beginning a new life.

I was All In when I read this book.

Emma Scott is a gifted writer. Her words were more than a story, they were a profound emotional experience.

I was not prepared for the emotional rollercoaster this book would take me on. I began reading this book to pass the time on our family vacation. I found myself a blubbering mess without the adequate amount of tissues needed to read this book.

Without giving away spoilers I am just going to say this book had a powerful message. Love is what validates life. It is what makes the soul thrive. It’s the one thing that makes our day worth while. It’s the one thing that will keep memories alive.

Emma Scott did a beautiful job with this book. I highly recommend reading this with a full box of tissues.

She is also an unabashed Star Wars geek and comic book enthusiast who fell into romance novels when a writing contest prompt turned a 1000-word romantic story into a full-blown novel. It’s back to Blueberry Lane where five dynamic wealthy families lives are intertwined.

Madeleine “Mad” Rousseau has always been the sweet twin in the Rousseau family. She puts her family and friends first. She would never betray them. Her twin sister Jax has returned home from Hollywood after recently going through her own life changing dilemmas. As usual Maddy has put her sister first while her own life is in shambles. She’s keeping her troubles to herself because part of her problems could hurt Jax.

She has just gone through a painful break up that led her down a troublesome road. While trying to drink her problems away, she runs into Cort Ambler, a childhood friend and her sister Jax’s ex boyfriend in high school. Cort broke Jax’s young heart. Now Mad finds herself one again insanely attracted to Cort. He’s off limits because of Jax. The heart wants what it wants and hers wants Cort. Is Maddy brave enough to go for what she wants in life or is she going to settle with living a life in Jax’s shadow. Will she sacrifice her own happiness because of her sister.

Cort Ambler has always loved Madeline Rousseau. In high school he chose the wrong twin by mistake. Ten years later he has a second chance and he is going to do everything within his power to win Mad’s heart.

I love the Blueberry Lane series. I thoroughly enjoyed Marry Me Mad but found it bit a predictable and repetitious. The story seemed to go in circles with Mad’s indecisiveness and Cort’s declarations of undying love. It seemed like the characters were dwelling in their own minds more than they were interacting together as a couple. Even though I felt it lacked in some areas it was still a charming romance. Anything by Katy Regnery is good.

I am looking forward to the next Rousseau to take the fall in matters of the heart.

“No! I hate you,” she spat, as I continued to tug her beside me.

“Good, you can hate me while I fuck you,” I said. “But first things first. My lesson obviously didn’t take in that brain of yours. You want what you want and I can’t stop you,” I said, as we approached the train tracks which were elevated on a mound of gravel several feet off the ground. The warning lights flashed orange, the neon reflective barriers dropped down to cover the service road, while the bells indicating an approaching train clanged away. “And since I can’t stop you, I’m going to help you out. Bullet in the head was so three hours ago. I’ve got something even better in mind now.”

“Wait. What?” she asked, her teeth chattering. “You…you wouldn’t.”

“Wouldn’t what?” I said, turning around to face her, almost losing my footing when I noticed the trail of dried tears on her cheeks. I looked away for a fraction of a second to regain my composure. “You think I wouldn’t kill someone?” I cocked an eyebrow. “You already know that I’ve been there, done that, bought the motherfucking t-shirt, doll.” Her eyes went wide and she made a move to step back. “Oh no, Doc, I read your letter and I saw what you wanted. And remember, I’m nothing if not accommodating.”

When I pulled her to climb the gravel mound her knees locked up so I bent over and picked her up by the waist, tossing her over my shoulder, carrying her onto the tracks while she beat on my back with her closed fists. When I got to the top I set her down roughly and she fell backwards onto her ass, bracing herself with her hands against the large pieces of gravel under the tracks.

The whistle of the train blew in the distance. It wouldn’t be long now. Dre made a move to stand up, but that wasn’t what I had in mind. I bent down and pushed on her chest, spreading her tiny frame across the tracks. I crawled on top of her, pinning her down with my thighs. I leaned over her, my chest to hers as we both breathed rapidly. She struggled underneath me to get up, pushing at my chest, but I wouldn’t budge. “Why the struggle, Doc? This is what you wanted, isn’t it?”

She glanced up at me as the train whistled again. Her gaze flipped to her right, where the single yellow light from the train emerged from around the corner, shining brighter and brighter as it chugged closer and closer. For a moment she stopped struggling, looking back and forth from the train to me.

“So what, you’re gonna die too?” she asked, hoping to appeal to my sense of self preservation.

I shrugged. “I get bored easily, maybe the devil will make me his errand boy or something.”

“Preppy, this isn’t funny. Get up and get off the fucking tracks,” she said, her concern shifting from herself to me.

I shook my head and yawned. She wiggled underneath me, and although there was a train barreling toward us my cock once again stirred to life. Maybe I should just rip down her panties and push inside of her. Train or no train, it would be one fuck of a way to go out.

“You have to choose, Doc,” I said, making my voice as serious as I was capable. “Life?” I asked, screaming over the sound of the train screeching against the track. I pushed my hard cock against her core and she gasped. Her trembling turned into a shiver, her mouth fell open. I glanced to the side at the blinding light of the approaching train as it bathed us both in a tunnel of light. I leaned down, so close that my lips were a whisper above hers, as I shouted, “Life? Or death? What’s it gonna be, Doc?” My hair blew around my face as the light grew brighter and brighter. “Answer the fucking question!” I demanded, my hands squeezing her shoulders, my fingers digging roughly into her skin. “DO YOU WANT TO FUCKING DIE?”

With only seconds left until we became shredded under the train, Dre closed her eyes and sighed. When she opened them again they were glistening, fresh tears spilling from the edges.

She started to speak, her lips forming the beginning of the word, but before it could fully leave her lips I stood, pulling her up with me. I lifted Dre into my arms and took a running leap off the tracks, my legs flailing in the air as we fell the seven or so feet. Dre’s decision still on her lips, her scream surrounding the air around us as we crashed down into the field.

“I wanna liiiiiiiiiiiivvvvvveeeeee.”

Love. Never. Dies. Samuel Clearwater, aka Preppy, will live on forever whether it be in memories or in the flesh. He left his MFing mark on the world. He captivated the readers hearts in the King series. His quirky, dynamic personality and high sense of fashion had the readers swooning the moment his character entered the pages in the first book of the King series. He has been a dynamic force throughout the series, alive or dead. He is the heart of the series.

Preppy: The Life & Death of Samuel Clearwater by T. M. Frazier is the first book in Samuel Clearwater’s life story. It takes the reader back to the beginning of the series when King has been arrested and sentenced to prison. While King was serving time, Preppy was holding down the fort, running the Grow Grannies business, and trying to find a way to get custody of King’s daughter. He will do anything for his best friend.

It all begins with a strung out junkie named Andrea “Drea” Capulet. Drea has found herself in hot water with Preppy after trying to rip off one of Grow Grannies. Rather than killing her Preppy decides to put her to use. First he has to clean her up, get her off the heroine, and make sure she is going to do right by her grandmother as well as hold up her end of the bargain. The bargain is much more complicated than either of them anticipated.

Preppy didn’t count on falling for the girl. He also didn’t count on wanting to do the right thing. He never has before. His life has been one been one cluster f*ck after another. Living his life to the fullest and not letting the past drag him down has always been his mantra. Loving with his whole heart is easy. Being worthy of love is harder than dying a million deaths. Death is not the end for Preppy… it’s only the beginning.

T.M. Frazier had me glued to the pages. The in depth story of Preppy was not only fascinating but also very entertaining. Preppy is one of the most complex characters I have read. On one hand he is a ray of sunshine and on the other he is the worst storm a person can encounter. His life story while King was incarcerated was complicated and unexpected. His choices were a complete surprise. His capability of loving is endless. Preppy will not be forgotten, he will live on long after his death.

The ending flashes forward to the present… the cliffhanger from Soulless. This time T.M. Frazier added another twist to the cliffhanger that leaves the reader screaming for more.

I can’t wait for Samuel Clearwater to arise from the grave… Preppy is coming back with a force stronger than the fiercest storm!
