He had it all. He lost it all. And all he wants now is a second chance.

RK Saber ran from tragedy five years ago when his car went over the side of a mountain in a prom-night crash. Consumed by guilt, he walked away from Juilliard and morphed into Rock, front man for the global rock-band sensation, Son of a Jack. Five members. Five best friends. Five rising stars burning so bright, they had to know it couldn’t last.

When tragedy strikes again and the band goes from five to two, RK is sentenced to… home. Back to the place where all his nightmares started. Back to the memory of all the things he lost. Back to the reality he refused to face before he left.

The Vetti twins were identical in all ways but two. Melanie was insane and Melissa was not. One twin was killed on prom night five years ago and one twin was not. And now that RK has returned home, the twin left standing has quite a story to tell. Could she really be the girl he thought he’d lost forever? Or is Melanie just up to her same old tricks?

ROCK is a rock-star romantic suspense by the New York Times bestselling master of twist, JA Huss.

Excerpt

I take my shirt off as I walk across the hallway, throwing it down on the floor. Missy is standing with her back to me, testing the temperature of the shower. She peeks over her shoulder and smiles. “I know you probably hear this all this time, but damn, Rowan Kyle. You should never take that shirt off in public again.”

I go for my pants, unbuttoning them, unzipping them. She watches every move. And then I kick off my boots and fling them into the hallway with the shirt. She turns all the way around now and I feel myself getting hard as she presses her palm against my cock, squeezing it through my pants.

“If I knew you were coming back I’d have waited for you.”

God, that hurts.

“I just…” She stops, her sad eyes lingering on mine. “I just didn’t think you would. Come back, I mean.”

“I’m sorry,” I say. And I mean it. I’m so fucking sorry I wasn’t her first.

“It’s OK. We get to skip all that awkward fumbling, right?” She swallows hard and I know she’s sorry too. She was the only girl I dreamed about. The only girl I ever wanted. Even after all my rock-star nights, Melissa Vetti is still the only girl I want.

I place both my hands on her cheeks and lean down to kiss her mouth. Her lips part, her tongue seeking out mine. It’s soft, and slow, and short. Way, way too short.

She pulls away, taking her hand off my cock, and turns, stepping into the shower. I let my pants fall to the floor and toss them in the hallway. The shower has a clear glass surround and I watch her as she stands under the water, her fingers massaging it into her hair.

I step in with her and place my hands on her shoulders so I can turn her towards me. “Melissa—”

“Shh,” she says. “I don’t want to talk about it right now. I just want to enjoy this.” She picks up the soap and starts to lather me up, massaging the bubbles along my arms. Over my chest. Up and down my back.

I grab the bottle of shampoo and squeeze some into my palm, then rub my hands together and begin working it through her long, dark, hair as I study her face. The makeup is smearing as I watch. It makes her look like she’s crying.

“I feel like this is a dream,” she says, her soapy hands moving to my front. “I feel like I’ve been granted some wish but it’s all fake and you’re just going to disappear again. Leave me here alone. Lonely. You want to know why I stay home, RK?”

No. No, I really don’t.

“Because I’m lonely. Because you were my life. And I know I was having doubts back when we were about to graduate, but they were small doubts. Growing-up doubts. Not-knowing-what-I-wanted doubts. But I was never going to break up with you, RK. Never. And I was certainly never going to walk away from us.”

Fuck. I guess I haven’t looked at it from her point of view very much. “I walked away.”

“You walked away.” Her frown is so deep it hurts my heart.

“I’m sorry. I don’t even know why—”

“Shh,” she says again. “Later.”

Her hand slides up and down my cock as she looks me in the eyes. It’s a very intimate moment. Probably the most intimate moment I’ve had in years.

“Rinse,” I say.

Missy turns away, and I swear, I know what she’s feeling. Every time she does that I think she will never turn back to me again. I hate when she turns away. I watch as she rinses the shampoo out of her hair. The water streams down her face like that waterfall where we had our first kiss.

She’s not Melanie. How could I ever think she was Melanie?

“Can I make you dinner tonight? Before the show?” she asks when she turns back. The relief that she’s still here is real, as irrational as it is.

“Dinner?” I say, trying to wrap my head around the change of subject. I was about to attack her, lift her up, press her back against the wall, and fuck the shit out of her and now she’s talking about dinner.

“Yeah. Do you still like lemon pasta? Like your mom used to make?”

“Jesus,” I say. “The angel hair with the white wine sauce? I haven’t thought about that in years.”

“Yeah. Remember when I made that for you on your seventeenth birthday?” She laughs. It was a fun night. A really fun night. The kind of fun you only have with the girl of your dreams before you turn to drugs and need alcohol and sex to force the fun. “I fucked it all up,” she says through a giggle.

I grin as I picture her attempt to cook me something. “I’m not sure how anyone can fuck that recipe up, but yeah. You did.” She bites her lip and I almost die. “It was perfect though. Because you made it. And you made it special for me.”

“You ate every bite.”

“There was no chance in hell I wouldn’t, Missy. Not after you went to all that trouble. So sure. I’m not gonna complain about a trip down memory lane with you tonight.”

“Good,” Missy sighs. “Good.” And then she grabs the conditioner and the possibility of sex fades away.

I’m actually glad it fades. I’m glad she changed the subject. Turned us in a different direction. I know I hate-fucked her when I first got back into town, and I’m sorry about that. I’d like to take it back and get a do-over. I’d rather wait. Like we did when we were kids. I’d rather wait until we know for sure this is real, and special, and maybe even permanent.I’d like to take my time with Melissa Vetti.

What do you get when you add J.A. Huss + a smoking hot rockstar + an evil twin + dead bandmates + a once in a lifetime love?  It’s not a difficult equation, the answer is quite simple… a fantastic book…Rock: A Rock Star Romantic Suspense by J. A. Huss.

J. A. Huss is known for writing romance with a twist.  Her characters, plots, and delivery are complex and unpredictable.  She weaves a tale with mystery and intrigue that sneaks up on the reader because they become involved in the relationship between the main characters.  The building of the relationship, the intense chemistry, and the erotic scenes keep the readers glued to the pages.  And then suddenly the underlying plot takes the characters and readers hostage.  It’s impossible to put the book down.  J. A. Huss outdid herself with Rock.  This book had multiple twists and turns.  It was hard to predict who was the hero and who was the villain.  The relationship between Rock and Missy was even more unpredictable because it was never clear who they really were.  As the story evolved and the revelations were made, it added more intrigue.

Rock , aka Rowen Kyle Saber, is more than a rock star.  He is a talented musician, superstar, small town boy, and simple man.  His road to stardom was an accidental effect of his troubled younger life.  He fled from his small hometown in Colorado after a tragic accident that caused the death of his girlfriend.  He never intended to return but fate had other plans.  Another accident that caused the death of bandmates has forced him to return home.  This time the evidence has implicated him as the one responsible for their deaths.  He’s forced to face his past, his losses, and his questionable future.  He has to face his dead girlfriend’s evil twin sister and the brother he turned his back on.  He is also forced to start dealing with the issues that led him to becoming a drug addict.  He’s still trying to recover from his injuries and grief from losing his bandmates.  He’s a mess, he’s blacking out and losing considerable amounts of time.  The people he’s depending on to help him seem to be turning their backs on him.  But that’s only his perception of what is happening, in reality it’s a completely different story.  Now he has to figure out the truth about the Rock, R.K., and Rowen Kyle Saber.  Three separate men encased in one body with one reality. Who is he and what has he done?

Read this book.  It’s guaranteed to keep you glued to the pages.  J. A. Huss has delivered a chart topping hit book!

Excerpt

There was very little chatter after the alarming phone call. Savvy looked at the clock. It was only five, but the extra help Tallow had enlisted acted like she was about to disintegrate. When they were finally done, they hung Savvy’s costume from a door, fully expecting her to drop trou in front of all the strangers.
She looked at the silver outfit meant to demean her and classify her as his, just like all his other favorites.
“Yeah, I’m not actually going to be wearing that.” She looked from one shocked person to the other.
Tallow recovered first. “But this is what he told you to wear!”
Savvy laughed hollowly. “Yeah, he can suck his own d*ck for all I care.”
The atmosphere changed. The others now realized Savvy didn’t think it was a huge honor to be a f*ckhole.
“That’s not acceptable. I’ll put you in it myself if I have to, but you’re leaving here in that outfit.” Tallow bravely gathered up the skirt and came into Savvy’s personal space. He obviously thought she was just a regular girl.
In an instant she’d lifted Tallow into the air by his neck. “I’m not wearing it.” She stared him down until he began to turn blue. Then she set him back on his feet.
Tallow was a quick learner and smoothed his fancy shirt. “Okay then, let me see what else we have.”

Michel’s Review

Looking for something different to read?  The Revenger by Debra Anastasia is the perfect choice.  It’s not the typical fictional story or a typical romance.  In fact I would say it is not a romance novel at all.  But it is a love story… a story about a mothers love.  A mother’s greatest gift is nurturing, teaching, sacrificing, and loving unconditionally.

Without giving away spoilers, I will say that Savvy Raine is an extraordinary character.  She is a hero, a villain,a teacher,a friend, and your worst enemy.  Her motivating factor is her love for her family.  She has lost her sense of self and is consumed by her need for vengeance.  As the story unfolds Savvy Raine gives more than most people only hope to give.

The Revenger is an unusual story that is emotional and entertaining.  I highly recommend this book.

Smaller SHh Debra Anastasia TwitterThere are a lot of eyes in Debra Anastasia’s house in Maryland. First, her own creepy peepers are there, staring at her computer screen. She’s made two more sets of eyes with her body, and the kids they belong to are amazing. The poor husband is still looking at her after 17 years of marriage. At least he likes to laugh. Then the freaking dogs are looking at her—six eyeballs altogether, though the old dog is blind. And the cat watches her too, mostly while knocking stuff off the counter and doing that internal kitty laugh when Deb can’t catch the items fast enough.

In between taking care of everything those eyes involve, Debra creates pretend people in her head and paints them on the giant, beautiful canvas of your imagination. What an amazing job that is. The stories hit her hard while driving the minivan or shaving her legs, especially when there’s no paper and pen around. In all of the lies she writes hides her heart, so thank you for letting it play in your mind.

Debra is eternally grateful to Omnific Publishing, which has now published five of her books: two in the Seraphim Series and three in the Poughkeepsie Brotherhood Series, as well as her novella, Late Night with Andres. That one is special because 100% of the proceeds go to breast cancer research. (So go get it right now, please!)

Synopsis:

Whoever said singles were missing out by not finding true love and getting married before the age of thirty had never experienced the sheer pleasure of nightly romantic comedy viewings in their underwear while eating one of Licked’s famous Crazy Cat Lady sundaes. Because life just doesn’t get better than that.

At least, it doesn’t for Shayne Callahan. It didn’t take more than a handful of broken hearts after college to solidify that she was better at pairing up those around her than herself. As a matchmaker at the elite HLS—Hook, Line, & Sinker Matchmaking Company—in the City of Angels, she has a knack for finding the other halves of even the most eccentric clients:

Sugar daddy with a foot fetish? Gross, but no problem.

A severe case of nudophobia? Match made before lunch.

But even the most happily independent of women can find their best-laid plans screeching to a halt when they meet that guy. For Shayne, that guy comes in the form of boyishly handsome, suspender-lovin’, dimple-poppin’ Nate Ryan on a pantsless (we’ll get to that later) Metro ride.

Of course, relationships can never be easy. Before the destined lovers can ride off into the sunset, they must overcome a power-hungry and sexual-punning boss, a celebrity scandal and cover-up, and let’s not forget Shayne’s dreadful foot-in-mouth disease—with which there can never be a happily ever after.

Will fate throw Shayne a freakin’ bone? Or will she be destined to live out her life as sexy(ish), single(ish), and L.A.’s finest Hooker (upper)?

About Brooke Blaine:

You could say Brooke Blaine was a book-a-holic from the time she knew how to read; she used to tell her mother that curling up with one at 4 a.m. before elementary school was her ‘quiet time.’ Not much has changed except for the espresso I.V. pump she now carries around and the size of her onesie pajamas.

She is the author of the international bestselling romantic comedy series, L.A. Liaisons (“Licked” and “Hooker), as well as Flash Point and The Desperate Man series. The latter, co-authored with Ella Frank, has scarred her conservative Southern family for life, bless their hearts.

Isabella Teaser 3-2

Excerpt

Cold rain instantly soaks through my clothes as I skip down the driveway, moving awkwardly, because I can’t bend one knee. I don’t care though. Rain is awesome. And it smells so great. Seriously, if I could, I’d skip around in the rain all the time.

My hair is drenched by the time I reach the sidewalk, and the flip-flops splash water from the puddles all over the backs of my legs. It reminds me of this one time Kai and I walked home in the rain and we intentionally splashed in all the puddles.

“Isa! What are you doing?!” Someone shouts with a hint of laughter in their voice.

My head whips to the side as I stumble to a stop.

Kai is standing out on the side deck, beneath the shelter of the roof, and I think he might be laughing at me, but the veil of rain crashing from the cloudy sky makes it difficult to see.

“Going to the paint store!” I shout then wave at him and start to skip off again.

“Are you crazy?” he calls out. “You can’t walk to town in the middle of a rainstorm.”

I sigh and slow down again. “I’m not walking! I’m skipping!” My eyelashes flutter against the rain.

“Can’t you wait until it at least stops raining?” he asks, shaking his head as I jump into a puddle.

“No way! It’s either the rain or being in the house with Hannah. And I choose the rain. Besides, rain is awesome!”

I can hear him laughing all the way from over here.

“Would you get your ass over here?” He waves at me to come to him. “I’ll drive you if you really want to go. But it’s too damn cold for you to be playing around in the rain, no matter how cute you look.”

Cute? Did he just call me cute?

Robin’s Review

When I learned that Jessica Sorensen had a young adult novel about to release, I jumped at the chance to participate as a reviewer on her release day! Sorensen is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. She has a wealth of writing experience, as evidenced by the more than 50 titles she has published. Sorensen is a talented author, and it shows in The Year I Became Isabella Anders. This story is really good. It’s one of those novels that ends too quickly and leaves you yearning for more.

Our protagonist is seventeen-year-old Isabella Anders. Isa has always been the odd one out in her family. Her interests lie in manga, comic books, zombies, blogging and a boy who lives next door – Kyler Meyers. She’s a tomboy who wears hoodies and baggy clothes – that is until she spends the summer in Europe with her Grandma Stephy. Isa opens herself up to a world of self-discovery and excitement, and when she returns home, her dramatic changes catch the attention of not one, but both of the boys who live next door.

One of the most interesting aspects of The Year I Became Isabella Anders is that this story is multifaceted. Sorensen includes several subplots which combine for one very interesting story. Don’t be misled by the synopsis. It’s accurate, but there is whole lot more going on with Isabella than mentioned in the synopsis. Isa has a complicated, confusing and somewhat mysterious life. There are many things to ponder about our protagonist, and I have many questions that I am dying to have answered! If you love mystery and intrigue, this story has it in spades!

And can I talk about those boys who live next door? Kai and Kyler Meyers are absolutely swoon worthy! Jessica Sorensen always creates interesting and complex characters, and these boys are no exception! Except for the final chapter, this novel is told from Isabella’s perspective. First person point of view tends to create mystery because, as readers, we never know exactly what the other characters are thinking. We never truly know the motivations behind their actions. Kai Meyers has me especially intrigued. Although it’s not too angsty and intense, I should probably mention there is a love triangle in The Year I Became Isabella Anders.

Isabella Anders is a complex protagonist, and even with a second novel on the way, she is already showing character development. Although this story has a minor cliffhanger, it’s not at all unbearable like some cliffhangers can be. I really can’t think of anything negative to say about this novel. Jessica Sorensen will soon be publishing a second novel about Isabella Anders – The Year of Falling in Love – and I can’t wait to delve into more story about these characters. The Year I Became Isabella Anders is a 5-star novel, and I’ll be adding to my list of 2015 favorites!

Michel’s Review

It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of Jessica Sorensen’s books.  Every time she releases a new book or starts a new series I instantly add it to my “Must Read Now” list.  I devour the books and am left wanting more.  Jessica Sorensen has a gift of creating characters that come to life and jump off the pages.  Her characters are always complex individuals with multiple layers to their personalities.  She adds adversity and emotional angst that makes them vulnerable.  She allows them to take their personal journey with humility and strength.  Throughout their journeys the characters grow as individuals and become the people they were meant to be.  She does not hide the ugly realities of their lives and portrays those realities so that the reader is completely sympathetic to their plights.  I always find myself deeply connected with her characters and their stories.

The Year I Became Isabella Anders is fantastic.  It’s a story of a young woman discovering her self worth and embracing her inner beauty.  It’s a story of a girl becoming a strong young woman brave enough to face the realities of her life.  A story of a young woman embracing change with a natural grace.  She is also learning to open up and allow others into her small world to make it brighter.

Isabella Anders has always been the odd duck.  She doesn’t fit into the mold her family has tried to put her into.  She has lived in her perfect older sister’s shadow all of her life.  She has failed to inherit the perfection her mother seems to possess at all times.  She is an outcast among her peers in school.  One summer changes everything for Isabella.

A trip abroad with her grandmother and cousin is the best thing to happen in her life.  For once she is treated as valuable individual.  She is appreciated for her unique individuality.  Along the way she learns to look at herself in a new way.  Her cousin helps her perfect her outer beauty.  Her grandmother teaches her to cherish her inner beauty.  As the summer progresses, Isabella transforms into a confident beautiful young woman.  But she also learns that her place in her family is much more complicated than not fitting into their mold.  There are secrets that even her own grandmother is not privy to.  Secrets only her parents can answer.  Secrets that explain why Isabella Anders is the way she is.  Secrets that could either free her or destroy her.

When Isabella returns home a newly improved Isabella, the Meyers Brothers take notice.  Her life long crush, Kyler Meyers, finally sees Isabella as a beautiful girl.  Kai Meyers has always seen who Isabella Anders is, now he must show her that he has always had his eyes wide open.  But all is not as it seems in the Meyers household.  They too have their secrets.

As Isabella’s friendships with Meyers boys grow, the mysteries of her own past are not the only ones she wants to solve.  She too has her eyes wide open now.  She’s ready to handle every secret shoved under the rug.  She’s ready to handle the Meyers Brothers.  She’s ready for anything life has to throw at her.  Her biggest choice is which Meyers boy will hold her hand and capture her heart.

I loved this book.  It is a story of a young woman finding herself while uncovering secrets that have been hidden to long.

The Year I Became Isabella Anders ended on a cliffhanger that leaves the reader dying for more.  Look for The Year of Falling In Love – book 2 soon!  Meanwhile…enjoy this book!

Trailer Reveal: Flame by Erin Noelle – Fire On The Mountain Series – Book 2

I’m soaring.
After years of hard work and determination, I am exactly where I want to be in life. As the top ranked Freestyle Motocross rider in the world, I have more money than I could ever dream of spending and gorgeous women throwing themselves at me in every city I land. I have everything I could ever want.
Everything except her.
While in Breckenridge for my best friend’s wedding, I was introduced to Dakota Shavell, a friend of the bride-to-be, and from the moment our blue gazes met, sparks flew.
What I initially intended to be a single steamy night together turned into a scorching two week road trip to New Orleans with a sassy-mouthed blonde. Being between her legs gave me a bigger adrenaline rush than I’d ever gotten from flying through the air while straddling a bike.
It was supposed to just be fun, a good time. I planned to walk away unchanged.
But it was more. Feelings I never intended to have got involved, and I’ll never be the same.
Yet, I still walked away.
Except now I’m injured and my outlook has changed. Priorities have become clear.
And I’m going back to reclaim her…to show her that together we can make the fire between us burst into flames.
***Though Flame is the second book in the Fire on the Mountain Series, it is an interconnected stand alone novel***

Perfect for fans of Christina Lauren, Emma Chase, and Maya Banks, the anticipated finale in New York Times bestselling author Monica Murphy’s sexy contemporary romance series about three fiery and determined sisters with their own ideas about life and love.

I’m in trouble. Again. And instead of facing my problems head on, I’ve run away. Far away this time, and no one can catch me—not my two younger sisters, Violet and Rose, not my father, my grandmother, or that witch Pilar who wants to take control of my family’s cosmetics company. Now I’m in Hawaii, enjoying the sun and the sand and water, where nobody knows the hot mess known as Lily Fowler. And I’m loving every minute of it.

But someone is watching me. Following me. He’s gorgeous. And soon we’re talking, and against all my instincts, I reveal bits and pieces of myself to Max. It feels good, though I know he can’t be the man for me. These sudden feelings we share are way too complicated, too fraught, too intense.

Then everything explodes and I’m forced to return home. My intentions have always been true, but now everyone’s mad at me. I don’t know who to turn to anymore . . . except to Max. He’s who I want to trust. But I’m not so sure I should. Maybe it’s worth the risk—and what-ifs be damned. . . .

Blog Tour + Review + Giveaway: Red Nights by Shari J. Ryan

I’m Felicity Stone, a twenty-five-year-old with my whole life ahead of me. Well, until recently.

I didn’t do it. Why would they think I did? Why would I want my twin brother dead? Why is everyone looking at me like I’m a criminal?
Well, everyone except him… Hayes Peyton, the charmingly beautiful stranger I met in the park at midnight—a totally legitimate place to meet the man of my dreams. Plus, he knows I’m innocent.
Believing him is easy. So very easy. Maybe too easy?
But when you hear things like: ‘All good is laced with some bad, and everything you think is the truth—is nothing more than a blatant lie,’ it makes you question reality.

In Shari J. Ryan’s latest Romantic Suspense, Red Nights, you wonder how dark your world can get before all you see is red.

“Great night for a walk.” I can hardly hear him over the rain, but his words don’t quite matter. I’ve been waiting to kiss him since the moment I saw him sitting in a booth at the restaurant tonight.
First kisses are always nerve-wracking and full of surprise, but second kisses are full of anticipation thanks to what I already know, what I’ve already had a taste of. “I really like you,” he says, loud enough to drown out the heavy rainfall.
I can’t invite him in…is that why he’s stalling? I point upstairs. “Aspen, my friend I’m crashing with, would ask you a million questions if you came up. I—”
“Oh, no. No. I wasn’t waiting for an invitation. I have a ‘seven date’ rule anyway.” I can see him fighting the urge to smile, but he’s losing that battle.
“’Seven date’ rule?” I laugh.
“Yeah, it’s dumb.” He runs a palm down the side of his face. “Because I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to make it that long.” He leans in, stealing a quick kiss. But I feel cheated. I want more.
“How do you know we’ll last seven dates?” I ask.
“Good point. I probably won’t be able to put up with you for that long.” I know he’s teasing. But ugh. Damn him and that smile.
I throw my arms around his neck and crash my lips into his. His body tightens, maybe from surprise, but it takes less than a second for him to relax. He strips me of my control, pushing me up against the brick wall, his body heavy against mine. Even with the rain sloshing between us, his hands find my cheeks. His tongue sweeps across my lips.
I’ve changed my mind.
I’ll bring him upstairs.
I don’t give a shit what Aspen does. I want him. I need him to keep making me forget.
“Come up,” I say in almost nothing but a breathless whisper.
He bites down on his bottom lip, appears to think about my offer, then shakes his head in this seductive slow motion, making this moment painfully enjoyable. “Not tonight,” he says, placing a small kiss on the tip of my nose. His hand is clutched around my waist and everything within me hurts and aches for him. “Good-night, Blondie-locks.” He turns and leaves in the rain, and I watch him go.
It has been a good night. A very good night, actually.
And it all ends when I get upstairs…

MICHEL’S REVIEW
Red Nights by Shari J. Ryan was one of those kind of books that draws the reader in immediately.  By the third or fourth page the reader is hooked.  I read this book in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed it.  It had intrigue, mystery , suspense, and romance.  This book was not particularly explicit.  The romance was more on the milder side.  The mystery and intrigue was more of the focus of the story.  Shari delivered a book that kept me on the edge of my seat.  Some parts gave me chills and creeped me out.
Felicity Stone’s life is a mess.  Her life literally went up in flames.  One moment she was living a charmed life, the next moment she was mourning the death of her brother.  A death that was meant for her.  She feels like she caused the fire that took her brother’s life and is having difficulties moving past it.
As she tries to move forward revelations are made that make her take two steps back.  When she meets a sexy stranger at the park in the middle of the night things begin to change.  She is starting to find a reason to move forward.
Heyes Peyton is not all that he seems to be.  He has his own demons that have forced him to resign as a detective.  He is now working the private sector.  When he becomes involved with Felicity it becomes clear that there is more to the story than a tragic accident.  It could be more than a case of arson.  It could be premeditated murder.
As the case unravels and revelations are made it is becoming clear that Felicity is in deep danger.  Heyes may not be able to protect her.
Red Nights is a thrilling suspense that I highly recommend.

Synopsis

She said I was like a song. Her favorite song. A song isn’t something you can see. It’s something you feel, something you move to, something that disappears after the last note is played.

I won my first fight when I was eleven years old, and I’ve been throwing punches ever since. Fighting is the purest, truest, most elemental thing there is. Some people describe heaven as a sea of unending white. Where choirs sing and loved ones await. But for me, heaven was something else. It sounded like the bell at the beginning of a round, it tasted like adrenaline, it burned like sweat in my eyes and fire in my belly. It looked like the blur of screaming crowds and an opponent who wanted my blood.

For me, heaven was the octagon.

Until I met Millie, and heaven became something different. I became something different. I knew I loved her when I watched her stand perfectly still in the middle of a crowded room, people swarming, buzzing, slipping around her, her straight dancer’s posture unyielding, her chin high, her hands loose at her sides. No one seemed to see her at all, except for the few who squeezed past her, tossing exasperated looks at her unsmiling face. When they realized she wasn’t normal, they hurried away. Why was it that no one saw her, yet she was the first thing I saw?

If heaven was the octagon, then she was my angel at the center of it all, the girl with the power to take me down and lift me up again. The girl I wanted to fight for, the girl I wanted to claim. The girl who taught me that sometimes the biggest heroes go unsung and the most important battles are the ones we don’t think we can win.

I stopped a foot from her and reached out, taking one of her hands in mine. “Do you like this song?” I asked. Obviously she did and obviously I was stupid.

            “I love this song.”

“Me too,” I whispered. I reached for her other hand.

            “Accidental Babies.”

“What?” I tugged her hands gently, and she took a step. I was so close now that the top of her head provided a shelf for my chin, and Damien’s song was being drowned out by the sound of my heart.

“It’s another one of his songs. . . and I think I love it even more,” she whispered back.

“But that song is so sad,” I breathed, and laid my cheek against her hair.

“That’s what makes it beautiful. It’s devastating. I love it when a song devastates me.” Her voice was thready, as if she was struggling to breathe.

“Ah, the sweet kind of suffering.” I dropped her hands and wrapped my arms around her.

“The best kind.” Her voice hitched as our bodies aligned.

“I’ve been suffering for a while now, Millie.”

“You have?” she asked, clearly amazed.

“Since the moment I saw you. It devastated me. And I love when a girl devastates me.” I was using her definition of the word, but the truth was, my sister was the only girl who had ever devastated me, and it hadn’t been sweet agony.

“I’ve never devastated anyone before,” Millie said faintly, shock and pleasure coloring her words. She still stood with her arms at her sides, almost like she couldn’t believe what was happening. But her lips hovered close to my jaw, as if she was enjoying the tension between almost and not quite.

“I’m guessing you’ve left a wake of destruction,” I whispered. “You just don’t know.”

Finally, as if she couldn’t resist any longer, she raised her hands to my waist. Trembling fingers and flat palms slid across my abdomen, up my chest, past my shoulders, progressing slowly as if she memorized as she moved. Then she touched my face and her thumbs found the cleft in my chin, the way they’d done the first time she’d traced my smile. Hesitantly, she urged my face down toward hers. A heartbeat before our mouths touched she spoke, and the soft words fluttered against my lips.

“Are you going to devastate me, David?” she asked.

“God, I hope not,” I prayed aloud.

Anticipation dissolved the lingering space between us, and I pressed needy lips to her seeking mouth. And then we melded together, hands clinging, bodies surging, music moaning, dancing in the wreckage. Sweet, sweet, devastation.

            “Too late . . .” I thought I heard her whisper.

Michel’s Review

In my opinion, Amy Harmon is one the most gifted writers in the publishing world.  Each and every one of her books is a DIAMOND.  They are a celebration of the human spirit and the miracle of love.  The reader experiences a multitude of emotions throughout each story.  Each story is original, thought provoking, inspirational, and a beautiful love story.  The Song of David is the latest addition to her outstanding accomplishments as a writer.

Song of David is closely related to The Law of Moses.  The reader’s met David “Tag” Taggert in The Law of Moses.  He was the dedicated best friend that stood by Moses side for many years.  His life was deeply connected with Moses and still is. Like Moses, Tag is a unique individual.  Where Moses has the gift of sight, David has the gift of nurturing .  He is a protector, a loyal friend, a fair employer, and firm believer in second and third chances.  He ensnares the lost souls that need someone on their side.  He has assembled his own Tag Team of loyal friends and loved ones.  He is their giant. He is their rock.  He is so dedicated to his Tag Team that sometimes he forgets his own needs.  That is his strength and his weakness.

When Tag meets the new pole dancer at his club, he is taken by her beauty and grace.  Amelie is unlike any woman he has encountered.  She is blind. Rather than needing David to be her protector, she wants him to be her partner.  She teaches him what it really means to see.  He learns that by really listening he will have a completely different vision of his world and himself.  He has finally accepted who he is and what he wants to be.  He has finally found true happiness.  The Song of David is his story.

The book begins when David disappears.  Through a series of cassette tape recordings David will tell his story.  He will tell of his journey to becoming the beautiful man he is.  He will tell his love story with Amelie.

Through these tapes it will be up to Moses, Amelie, and the Tag Team to find out where their fearless giant has disappeared.

This book portrays the beauty of the human spirit.  It is a beautiful love story.  It is The Son of David.

Amy Harmon wrote a poignant enthralling story that is thought provoking. Her subtle revelations lead the reader to explore the revelations within themselves.  The Song of David is one the most powerful books I have read.

Robin’s Review

Just over two years ago, in May of 2013, I read novel titled A Different Blue. A Different Blue was my first novel written by author Amy Harmon, and reading this New York Times Bestseller signified the beginning of my love affair for her writing. I worked backwards, reading everything she published prior to A Different Blue. Since then, I have read each new novel released by Amy Harmon. I am now delighted to be reviewing Harmon’s latest work, The Song of David.

The Song of David is a new adult contemporary romance that is loosely tied by the characters to The Law of Moses. Moses Wright and Georgia Shepherd are the primary characters in The Law of Moses, but we are also introduced to the best friend of Moses Wright, David “Tag” Taggert. Moses and Tag have a very interesting background, and Moses plays an important role in The Song of David. If you want the full effect of The Song of David, I highly recommend that you read The Law of Moses first.

The Song of David is told from the perspectives of Moses Wright and Tag Taggert. Amy Harmon came up with a brilliant and unique way of telling this story. We are given a first person point of view directly from Moses, but Tag’s perspective is told by means of a series of cassette tapes which he specifically recorded for Millie. The cassette tapes are a fantastic medium for telling a story!

At the beginning of The Song of David, we learn Tag has gone missing. He has a beautiful girlfriend and a “Tag Team” of supportive friends. He owns several successful businesses. He has a promising career as a MMA fighter. But Tag disappears without a trace, leaving nothing behind but a set of keys, a cassette recorder and several cassette tapes. Moses listens to the cassettes with Millie, as they try to figure out why he has disappeared. Tag recounts his memories of Millie, and we experience how the two of them meet and fall in love.

Several nights a week, Tag offers pole dancing in the fight arena that is connected to his bar. Twenty-two year-old Amelie Anderson is hired by his bar manager to be a pole dancer in the arena cage. She’s beautiful, with delicate features, and a nice body. Her dancing is athletic, her smile is dreamy, and her eyes, large and luminous, but Amelie is also blind. It doesn’t make a difference to Tag that she is blind – when Tag meets Amelie, her smile takes his breath away. Silly Millie is the sweetest character. She may be blind, but she is very strong and positive, never lamenting her station in life. I think she may be my favorite character ever written by Amy Harmon.

I have never been disappointed with anything written by Amy Harmon. I know that I can always count on a unique and thought-provoking story with each new book that she publishes. I continue to be impressed with her talent and creativity, and the genuine or natural feel to conversations which take place between her characters.  Nowhere are these attributes more apparent than in The Song of David. Her writing flows naturally in this story. Conversations including Moses, Tag, Millie and her younger brother, Henry are heartfelt and full of wisdom. Harmon constantly triggered my emotions while I was reading this novel. I want to point out a couple of excerpts that I feel are worthy of mentioning. If you read The Song of David, pay close attention to what Tag has to say about Heaven. And I cannot finish this review without mentioning the passage where Millie makes love to Tag. This is truly one of the most beautiful love scenes that I have ever read.

There is so much to love about The Song of David. One of my favorite things about this novel is that it felt like a continuation of The Law of Moses. Moses and Georgia get plenty of page time, and we are able to read more about their future together as a couple. I loved the mystery in this story. Harmon alternates between cassette tape recordings, which is their love story and everything leading up to Tag’s disappearance, and the discussion between Moses, Millie and other characters, trying to solve the mystery of his absence. After I finished reading The Song of David, I felt full of hope. The ending of the story truly left me smiling. I hope everyone who reads this review will read The Law of Moses and The Song of David. Both of them are 6-star novels, and The Song of David is now a 2015 favorite!

“Baby, I don’t have to pay for sex. But now that I have you helping out, I might be able to squeeze in some fun time.”
“By all means. Just make sure you go somewhere else and not in our room.”
“Don’t worry, I’m going to get us a suite with two rooms. That way we don’t bother each other.”
“As long as they have noise deadening walls, I’m good to go.”
“So you’re a screamer then?”
“What? I was talking about—” I shook my head. “Never mind.”
His laugh made my teeth clench. “Looks like I made someone blush. I think it’s kind of sexy.”
