I scrunch up my face in confusion, but I stay still. I know it’s wrong to assume his life is perfect, but from my perspective, it is. There’s just no comparison.
“You want to know my demons, Grace? Do you need to know my secrets to be able to accept that I’m capable of understanding what you feel? What do you need?”
Do I? Do I need for him to be damaged for me to accept this… whatever this is? And if I do, what does that say about me? That I can only relate to the lost and the tragic?
“Because if that’s what you need, then fine. I have never really articulated it in words before. I’ve never had to,” he says in a whisper as he gives me a squeeze. “No one ever wanted me to justify my personal trauma to prove that I can understand them. But I will.”
“Wait.” I stop him with a hand on his chest. I push myself up so I can look him in the eye. “If this is really fucked up of me, then no.”
“Grace, why does it matter if it’s fucked up? Why do you care what I think of your request?”
“Because I don’t want you to think I’m…” I let out a long sigh. “That he… ruined me. That I’m damaged and dirty and unlovable.”
“Do you think he ruined you? Do you feel damaged and unloved?”
“Yes.” I exhale and then immediately take a huge gulp of air. “Yes, I think all that stuff.”
“Then why do you want to hide that?”
“Because…”
“Because you think I won’t love you?”
“How can you?”
His brows knit together, his confusion so real, painted so clearly on his face, it sets me back a second. “Jesus, I’m not that shallow, Grace. I am a human being.”
“I didn’t mean it—”
“No,” he says, cutting me off harshly. “Enough with the didn’t mean it bullshit. OK?” his eyes dart back and forth as he searches for my intentions.
What are my intentions? “I just…” I have to swallow hard and look away. “I just… need reassurances.”

It was hard to explain the way he spoke to me; at times he was flirtatious and well… happy. Other times? It seemed like he was fighting another side of himself, one that was more reserved, uptight, controlled. And if you were to ask me which side scared me the most? I’d say both. He smiled, tilting his head toward me. “Why am I getting the sudden urge to pull out a list of character references?”

“Because I just scared myself,” I admitted out loud.

“You want my social security number?” He winked. “Credit score? First grade class photo? Oh, and by the way, in first grade I was nominated most likely to own a pet store… so, if you aren’t okay with that, we probably shouldn’t continue this.”

“This?”

“Dinner.”

“Because you liked pets?”

“I wanted to own a lizard farm.”

I covered my mouth with my hands and nodded solemnly. “All little boys have dreams.”

“A bully crushed mine when he told me lizard farms don’t exist.” He shook his head. “In second grade I was voted least likely to succeed, on account that I didn’t speak for the entire year.”

“Why’s that?” I took another step toward him.

He took another step in my direction and shrugged. “It took me a while to get over the lizards.”

“So you stopped speaking?”

“It was more of me trying to make the public aware of my outrage.”

“Ah, like lizard strike.”

“I made shirts.”

“Tell me, professor, is that when the label-making started?”

“No.” He nodded toward the door and started walking. I followed, genuinely interested in what he was going to say and hating that it was possible he was stringing me along only to go all cold-crazy-psycho on me again. “That was an entirely different situation.” He pulled the door open.

“What? No more stories?” I asked.

“Dinner.” He shrugged, his eyes a stormy gray. “I’ll tell you at dinner.”

“Bribery.”

“My trump card. Label-maker stories. You know, I do actually know how to romance a woman.”

When I was given the chance to read BECOMING CALDER and FINDING EDEN by Mia Sheridan, I was excited. I mean, first off, it’s Mia Sheridan, and, secondly, the synopses for these books drew me in from the very beginning. I was intrigued, and couldn’t wait to find out more about Calder Raynes and Eden Everson, and Acadia, the community that they lived in. And, so, lucky enough to have these books in my hands, I began. And once I did, I just could not put them down. I could not stop for anything. Because I was captivated, completely won over, in every way possible.

Calder Raynes has lived at Acadia his entire life, surrounded by family and friends. From the moment of Eden’s arrival, the two are drawn to each other, and over the years, their relationship changes from friendship to desire to love, even as Eden’s eighteenth birthday, her appointed wedding day to Hector, grows ever closer.

Eden Everson was brought as a child to Acadia, a community set apart from society in anticipation of the end of the world. BECOMING CALDER and FINDING EDEN are two of the best books that I have had the pleasure of reading. It is impossible not to fall in love with these characters, to rejoice in their love, and mourn their losses. I was so emotionally invested in Eden and Calder and their stories that I couldn’t stop thinking of them long after I’d finished the books. Although I wanted to enjoy these books at a leisurely pace, and just soak up the story, I could not help but speed through them, because I just could not wait to see what happened next.

If we’re lucky, we come across a handful of books that really resonate for us. They are beautifully crafted, ripe with wonderful plot, dialogue, and characters that, during the course of the story, prove themselves to be so much more. I can honestly say that BECOMING CALDER and FINDING EDEN are all of this and more for me. Mia Sheridan, by the blessing that is her creativity, birthed Calder, this beautiful, strong, loving man, and Eden, Calder’s Morning Glory, a girl that refused to give up in the face of enormous obstacles, and allowed us to be part of it. I savored these books, soaked in every part of them, wanting to reach the culmination, but yet not wanting it to end. And then I had to sit with the story for a few days, to revisit and replay every bit of it: Calder, Xander, Eden, and the entire experience that was Acadia, and what came after. Only then could I sit down and share my thoughts, that BECOMING CALDER and FINDING EDEN are absolutely two of my favorite books, not just of this year, but ever. And to let everyone know that 6+ stars doesn’t seem like enough for these books, this beautiful and touching story, with characters that evoked emotion upon emotion. Thank you, Mia, for sharing this truly beautiful story of overcoming life’s obstacles and belief in the power of love with us, and for bringing such a beautiful love story to life.

This book had me an emotional wreck. When I finished this book I was sitting in a pile of kleenex. It is one of the best UGLY cries I have had. I felt every emotion each of these characters felt. I was proud of the kind of woman Abby turned out to be. I was elated for Chris and Claire to finally mend the hole in their hearts they had for eighteen years. I broke right along with Abby when her heart took away the very life of her soul. This book has the same kind of emotional impact as Fault In Our Stars did.

Cassia Leo did a magnificent job with this book. Everything about this book was complete perfection. Read the Shattered Hearts series.

This is the last published book from Cassia Leo. This book will be her blaze of glory.

Cassia will continue writing under a new pen name. I look forward to her new direction and new persona. I want to thank her for giving the readers so many fabulous books.

This is a love story with a twist. I adored this read. You can’t help but fall in love with Summer after everything she has been through. Summer only recently found out that she is the illegitimate child of Reginald Summerhill. She had no idea that he had another family. Because of an act of fate she is accepted into the Summerhill family and has begun to form an amazing bond with her half siblings and their mother. Now she wants a few of them have. A man who is good and kind to share the rest of her life with. She believes she has found that man and he is Ryan Huber. Ryan works in the same building as she and she has been pinning for him from afar. He gives to charity and is handsome and she can tell from his eyes that there is kindness in him. The problem is that Ryan just announced his engagement and Summer feels she might have missed her chance at true love. So she decides she is going to confront him at a masquerade ball with a kiss and that he will be swept off his feet just like the prince is in all the fairy tales she read as a child.

Jon Smith has been hired to check into Ryan. There are questions about whether or not he might me misappropriating funds. So Jon goes undercover as a favor to an old friend as a very wealthy man looking to invest some money. The last thing Jon saw coming was Summer Welles. He ran into her on an elevator and listened as she spoke to her sister about being Ryan’s fiancée. Jon thought Ryan was a very lucky man. You can only imagine the shock and awe when Summer kisses him by mistake at the masquerade ball. There is undeniable chemistry right away but there is no way that Jon is interested in a kind of relationship even if the woman makes his heart race. He has plans to retire. Besides she wants Ryan not him.

I loved how Kate wove a tale of deceiving appearances. You really can’t judge a book by its cover. This story had a fun twist that I really enjoyed. The banter between Jon and Summer had me laughing out loud. Kate does a great job with character development. Jon is a broken man who just wants to close up shop so he can disappear from it all. She brings Jon around to coming to the realization that retirement might not be what it is cracked up to be. Summer is full of life and hides behind her black suits. She wants to be noticed, but then she doesn’t. The unwanted chemistry between Jon and Summer is sizzling.

I have truly adored this series. It has this historical feel in modern times. I am so excited to see what Summerhill girl will be married off next. If you are a fan of Historical or Contemporary Romance you will love Once Upon A Dream as well as the other books in this series. It has been a favorite of mine and I am really looking forward to visiting Summerhill again soon.
