Seven Year Itch Series – Book 3

By Jennifer Foor

Buy: Amazon / B & N / ITunes / Kobo

Ten years ago I fell in love with a married woman. I walked
away so she could be happy, moving across the country to make sure I put space
between us. We severed ties, and I promised myself I wouldn’t look back.
Since then I committed to someone else, and we have a child
and a life many would wish for. Except, it’s never been enough for me. There’s
always been something missing; something I never wanted to admit.
With my own marriage failing, I’m forced to go back to my
hometown to bury the man who raised me. I never expected to see her there, and
nothing could prepare me for what would happen the moment my arms wrapped
around hers again.

EXCERPT

“You have every right to assume this can’t be anything more than a temporary affair. I don’t blame you for being cautious, but there is something I want you to know.”

She turned around, finally looking right at me with those hesitant eyes. “What?”

“I still love you.” I swallowed the lump in my throat as the words came out, silently praying she wouldn’t force me to leave. It wasn’t every day that I told someone other than my wife I loved them, but in this instance it was the truest statement I’d ever made. “I feel like I’ve loved you for a lifetime. It’s true. I have loved my wife, but it’s not the same. It’s always been you, Rach. You’re the only woman I know I’ll never be able to let go of. Staying away was my only option. I did it to protect both of our lives, but there’s nothing standing in the way anymore. Please don’t deny us a second chance.” I paused one more time. “I need you, just as much as I think you need me.”

Her shoulders relaxed, and I watched her purse fall from her grip and hit the concrete ground. She shrugged while staring into my eyes. Her lips were trembling, allowing me to almost sense the connection between us. “I’m not strong enough to be with you again. I can’t handle anymore heartache. Being close to you scares me, because I’m tired of the pain and suffering.”

I took two steps forward, breaking the distance between us. “I’m not capable of hurting you again, Rach. If you give me this chance I promise I won’t let you down. Let me be your friend again, and whatever comes with it will be determined by both of us.”

Tracey’s Review

After giving up the love of his life ten years earlier, Chad had done his best to move on and make a new life for himself, keeping his promise to close that chapter once and for all. When circumstances bring them together again, it’s like no time has passed at all, but the things that we want often don’t come easily, and Chad must decide where he belongs.

I am a big fan of second-chance love stories. I love to see soulmates finally get their match, to see the big Happily Ever After, and BELONG by Jennifer Foor seemed like it was going to give me just that. But, oh, my goodness, the stars were just not aligned for Chad and Rachel, the woman that he’d loved so long ago, and who came back into his life, and this made for a frustrating and somewhat difficult read for me. Here’s the thing: I like a little angst with my HEA, but I had a very difficult time connecting with both Chad and Rachel. Everything happened so quickly, and I could not understand the ease with which they made some of their decisions.

Ultimately, I was happy with the way Jennifer brought things together, but it was quite the journey getting there. 3.5 stars for BELONG, with the caveat that I would definitely read more of Jennifer’s work, because, while this book was not my particular cup of tea, I feel sure that it will resonate with other readers.

MAJOR MISCONDUCT
Aces Hockey #1
Kelly Jamieson
Releasing Oct 13th, 2015
Loveswept

In Kelly Jamieson’s seductive new Chicago Aces romance—perfect for readers of Sawyer Bennett and Toni Aleo—a fun-loving free spirit tempts an uptight hockey star into opening himself up to love.

As the captain of the Chicago Aces, Marc Dupuis is all business. The apartment he shares with his teammate and best friend, Duncan, is a refuge from the pressures of fame. But when the sexiest woman he’s ever seen interrupts his early morning coffee wearing only a skimpy cami and matching panties, Marc can’t exactly say he minds. Their chemistry is off the charts. Unfortunately, this girl’s no random puck bunny. She’s Duncan’s little sister—and she’s moving in.

Lovey Armstrong could stare at Marc’s chiseled abs and listen to his French-Canadian accent all day. She just has no idea what’s going on inside his head: When he’s not charming her pants off, Marc makes a Zamboni machine seem warm and cuddly. Lovey knows the team’s bro code says no messing with sisters, but all these mixed messages are hard on a girl’s self-esteem—especially since she’s finally getting her new life together in Chicago. She decides he’s worth another shot . . . because if anyone can melt the ice around Marc’s heart, it’s Lovey.

“Okay, back to the topic at hand,” Duncan said. “You can’t stay here.”

Still watching Marc, Lovey saw his head snap up.

“I have to stay here, Dunc. Where else am I going to go?”

He cursed under his breath. “But I told you, there’s nowhere for you to sleep.”

“Uh . . . she can have my bed,” Marc offered.

Lovey beamed at him. “That’s so sweet of you.”

“She can’t have your fucking bed,” Duncan snapped. “Where the hell are you going to sleep?”

Marc shrugged. “Couch?”

I’ll sleep on the couch.” Duncan gave a gusty sigh. “One night. One night only. After that, you have to stay in a hotel or something, Lovey.”

“I can’t afford a hotel!” She gaped at him. “D’you think my last job paid me multi-millions of dollars like yours does?”

“Quit throwing my money in my face.” He slumped into the couch with a scowl.

“I’m not throwing it in your face.” She blinked. “I’m just pointing out what should be obvious . . . my marketing job for Kleinheinz Cheese did not pay enough for me to be able to afford to stay in a pricey Chicago hotel indefinitely.”

“You have enough to rent an apartment, don’t you?” He narrowed his eyes at her.

“Um . . . I have a little money. I sold my car.”

“Lovey . . .”

“Duncan.”

They glared at each other in one of their famous sibling standoffs. She lifted her chin.

As usual, she won.

“Fine,” he muttered. “Stay here until you get on your feet. But it better not be long. And you better not be in our way.”

“Thanks, Dunc.” She smiled. “I promise I won’t be. You won’t even know I’m here.”

“Why do I doubt that?” Duncan shook his head.

She looked over at Marc and saw he was grinning at the counter he was wiping.

Cheese whiz, he was gorgeous! Even more so when he smiled. Earlier he’d been so straight-faced and serious. A little curl of lust warmed her inside.

“We need to get going.” Marc looked at her brother, the grin now absent. “Gotta get to the dealership.”

“Yeah. Okay.” Duncan gave her a narrow-eyed look as he rose from the couch. “I’m buying a new vehicle. Gotta go sign the papers and pick it up.”

“Oooh. What kind?”

“Land Rover.”

“Duncan! You can’t drive a truck in Chicago!”

“It’s not a truck, for fuck’s sake.”

She made a face. “If you say so. I’ll unpack and get settled in. Hey, could you pick me up a bed on your way home?” He bugged his eyes out at her and she laughed. “Kidding! We can do that tomorrow.”

“What about the stuff from your apartment in Madison? Where’s that?”

“Storage. I’ll get it shipped here when I find my own place.”

“You mean you actually do intend to find your own place?”

“Uh . . . yeah.” She gave him a “duh” look. “I can’t stay with you forever. Although, I could get some of the stuff shipped here . . . my bedroom set. And . . .” She glanced at his dining room full of weights. “You could use a dining table and chairs.”

“Fuck no. I mean . . . I’ll help you find a nice apartment.”

“Sure. As long as you don’t mind sleeping on the couch until I do.”

He groaned and she heard a laugh from the kitchen. She looked back at Marc and their eyes met. His gleamed with mirth and she felt that little kick of lust again.

He grinned. “Don’t think I’ve ever seen Army taken out so easily. This is hilarious.”

Duncan scowled. “Shut the fuck up, Duper.”

Her eyes met Marc’s and held again and she grinned back at him, trying (but failing) to ignore the flip of lust and attraction low in her belly. He looked at her long enough that she knew he felt it too.

Well, she certainly hadn’t anticipated something like this. She’d come to Chicago to move on with her life. Things with Richard had gotten serious enough that she’d been scared spitless; scared enough to break up with him, quit her job, pack up all her belongings, and run. She had a plan, figured there’d be lots of opportunities in Chicago, and was going to get right on that, first thing Monday morning. She hadn’t planned on living with a hot hockey player with a body that could turn a girl to a puddle of lust . . . but this was going to be fun!

Michel’s Review

Major Misconduct by Kelly Jamieson is the first book in her new Aces Hockey series.  This dynamic new series is going to grab the attention of the die hard sports romance readers. Hockey romances seem to be the most popular sport romances.  I think it’s the rough and  tough, brutal bad boys that have more than a heart of ice.  Readers love witnessing their hearts melting down and going up in flames.

Marc Dupuis is not your typical bad boy hockey player.  He is an athlete dedicated to his sport, his team, and his fans.  He has a very serious nature and maintains a solid straight forward image.  He lives his life with order, rules, and a realistic moral code.  That is until he meets his roommate’s (also teammate) sister, Lovey Armstrong.  She is going to make him bend every rule and code that he has lived by all his life.

The heat is on and Marc is about to go up in flames.  Lovey is not your typical girl.  She’s fiercely independent and overloaded with whimsical positivity. She wants to make her way in the world on her own.  What she didn’t count on was a sexy french hockey player to make some new rules for her life.

Talk about opposites attracting.  This one takes the cake!

Major Misconduct was fun and sexy.  I enjoyed the book but at times Lovey’s character drove me nuts.  Her use of the word cheese just made her character too “cheesy”.  I am sure most readers will find it charming but it was just too much for me.  Marc on the other hand was downright swoon worthy.  The man could melt the ice.

I look forward to reading the next book in the Aces Hockey series.

Tina’s Review

Judging a Book by it’s Cover:
The cover displays an eye-catching, colored background with a male model in the foreground in black and white. In the heat of the PITCH PERFECT craze, Ms Albert makes a smart choice to utilize the competitive a cappella world to her favor.
Looking Deeper:
Boy, I have giving critical reviews, but I fear this one was not one of my favorites and I am so sorry to say so as I’ve really liked the other books I’ve read by this author.
Third person POV. Taking you behind the scenes of a reality TV talent competition, not unlike “The Sing-Off”, the story focuses on two young gay men who start out as each other’s competition but become much more. There’s a lot of drama and chaos, as one would expect, in a setting such as this. This story is nothing like the more-mature settings and characters from Ms. Albert’s Portland Heat series; the angst and drama are exhausting at times. It was quite difficult to connect with the street-wise and emotionally hardened fame-hungry Cody, or with the overly innocent and sheltered, wholesome naive college boy, Lucas. The chemistry between them felt disconnected and, at times, even forced. There were a plethora of secondary characters, some no more than filler while others made a strong contribution. Dialogue was decent. Interaction was mostly good, although there was plenty of awkwardness. The plot had a lot of potential and a unique behind-the-scenes perspective that lent credibility and realism to the competition scenes. This one read real slow to me, like trudging through molasses; I think, because I could not connect with the lead characters but I could not find any fault in the writing style and pace set forth. There were several conflicts that were resolved in ways that I can’t necessarily agree with for a long-term solution, but apparently in the land of fiction all works out well in the end. Predictability was low and the conclusion was solid. Maybe someone younger would enjoy the book more, but it was mediocre to me – which again, I truly apologize for saying.

Michel’s Review
Frisk Me by Lauren Layne is the first book in the New York’s Finest series.  This series features the Moretti family.  The Moretti’s are New York law enforcement royalty.  Their family has a law enforcement legacy serving the citizens of New York City.
Luc Moretti is the youngest of the Moretti clan.  Like his father and brothers, he knew his destiny was in law enforcement.  He takes his job seriously.  He strives to be the best police officer he can be.  At the same time he is also frustrated with having to go by the book and follow step by step procedures.  By doing so, he has had to deal with an incident that will haunt him for the rest of his life.
When Luc performs a heroic deed that ends up on social media it puts him on the radar of a television network.  He is forced to work with Ava Sims, an annoying reporter.  He is on guard and livid that he has to deal with her while trying to do his job.  Dealing with her on a daily basis is even worse.
Ava Sims is an ambitious reporter.  Her segment on Luc Moretti , An American Hero, is the story that is going to land her the lead anchor position on her network.  She won’t let anything stand in her way.  What she didn’t count on was falling for Luc Moretti.  She didn’t count on the American Hero, Luc Moretti having dark secrets.  Secrets he holds close to his heart.  Exposing his secrets will land her the job.  Exposing his secrets will surely make her lose his love.  The ball is in her court.  Her choices could destroy them both.
I enjoyed the Moretti family dynamics.  I loved Luc Moretti.  He was a sincere man that valued the law.  I did not like Ava Sims at all.  She was a bit too harsh and self centered even when she finally surrendered to her feelings for Luc.  She never came across as sincere.
Overall Frisk Me was a good book.  I am looking forward to the next books in this series featuring the other Moretti brothers.  They are a dynamic family.

Michel’s Review

Breaking Her Rules by Jennifer Snow is the debut book in her new series Beyond The Cage.  This is a promising MMA Romance series that I think readers are going to embrace whole heartedly.

Walker and Gracie are from the same small town.  Adam is the older brother to Gracie’s best friend.  During her teen years Gracie crushed on Adam but he was out of her league.  He was a super star jock, popular, and privileged.  Now the tables are turned.  Adam is down and out, homeless.  He dropped out of law school to pursue his dreams of being a professional MMA Fighter.  His family cut him off but he is still determined to make a go of it.  When Gracie offers her couch he is grateful.

Adam is breaking into the fighting world at a late age.  Luckily Gracie has connections that help him get a fight that could make or break his career.  The fight is in three weeks.  Is he ready?

Adam has too many distractions.  He has to work.  He has a popular female journalist sinking her claws into him.  He also has Gracie.  Suddenly he knows she’s alive and he wants her.  The problem is her boyfriend.  The man that is controlling his career.

Adam is in for the fight of his life and it may not be in the cage.

Gracie has rules.  She is determined not to be like her flighty mother.  Her world was going perfect until Adam showed up on her couch.  He is making her want to break her own rules.  Can she stay true or is her destiny to be ruled by her emotions?

Breaking Her Rules was a solid start to the Beyond The Cage series.  The leading characters were well developed and the secondary characters were interesting enough for readers to want more from this series.  The book was well written although very predictable.  It seemed a bit like a cookie cutter romance.  I would of liked to see more grit.  The sex and steaminess was moderate.  Again I would of liked to see more sexual tension and chemistry.

Overall Breaking Her Rules by Jennifer Snow was fun and entertaining.  It’s the perfect kind of book for escaping.  I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Tina’s Review

Judging a Book by it’s Cover:
Bright and bold color choices immediately catch the eye. The synopsis sounds like a typical coming-of-age, teen drama. Nothing too extra-ordinary or unique from the tons of others out there already: Naive, small-town girl moves and meets local bad boy. It’s all very cliche’ when you think about it. Hope it reads better!
Looking Deeper:
Written from Lexie’s first-person POV. How to explain this book…. Lexie’s fascination / obsession with school hottie / bad boy is akin to the Bella / Edward saga that I’m sure everyone is familiar with, except Ballantine does not sparkle (thank god for small favors). Then there’s Amanda, the estranged cousin that she idolized. My first thought on Amanda: “Mean Girls”. It’s not a loving reunion. Add in a few more characters and plenty of pop culture references and you have a rather full cast and substance.
The plot plods along steadily but sedately, chronicling the mundane life at school, mostly. Nearly a third of the way into the book, Ballantine had made one comment and asked two questions to Lexie. His friend, Boon, has interacted with her more! I think he’s fast becoming a favorite character. The dialogue and interaction is mostly realistic and natural feeling, although it really does perplex me how someone can be THAT naive and trusting of everyone. I found myself struggling with the pace and the mostly one-dimensional content. The main characters are okay, but they are awful young (Ballantine’s 18 and Lexie’s 17) and still have a LOT of growing up to do. I was a bit thrown that the boys are always referred to by their last names. There’s a lot of Australian terminology in this book, so be sure to have your translator ready if you are not familiar with words like ute, esky, doona, and bitumen.
There were many conflicts ranging in degree. Most were resolved, some were not. There were a few plot twists that were not predicted and I can only speculate on some of the other elements that are yet to reveal themselves. The conclusion is left open to continue in the next book, due out in September of 2015. I wish I had prior knowledge of a cliffhanger. I prefer not to invest my time in partial stories, but rather I wait until all parts are available to read as a whole. This story *IS* a High School drama-laden saga with a cliffhanger. You’ve been warned.

Michel’s Review

If you are looking for an entertaining, romantic quick read, Who I Am With You by Melody Anne is the perfect book.  It is the second story ( a novella) to release in the Unexpected Heroes series and can be read as a stand alone or in series order.

Melody Anne created an unusual heroine.  Taylor is not your typical girl.  She is a strong competitor in the motorcross sport.  When an injury knocks her out of the competitive field for lengthy period she is forced to stay put and heal.  Escaping her parents home to her brother’s cabin seems like the ideal situation.  The only problem is that her brother told someone else they could use his cabin.  That someone else happens to be her first love, Travis, the guy that rejected her young heart.

Travis has just gotten out of the military and needs time to get himself together.  He’s shocked when his best friend’s younger sister ends up in the same cabin he is.

Both Travis and Taylor are at crossroads in their lives.  Their time in the cabin will bring self discoveries, new directions, and love.  Both will find they have something better ahead of them.

This novella was the perfect quick romance that was packed with emotion, sincere characters, sizzling hot romance, and uncomplicated plot.

It was thoroughly entertaining. I look forward to more books in the Unexpected Heroes series.

Guest Post

Greetings from the hot and humid state of Oklahoma!  My name is Mia Dymond and I write sexy contemporary romance novels with a twist of sass. I currently have fourteen novels available on retailers including iBooks, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Amazon, and Smashwords.

My most recent release is Treasure Me, Book in the Alpha Four series.  Alpha Four is a tough, no-nonsense group of ex-Army Rangers with muscles of stone and hearts of gold.  Book one is the story of Lt. Dagan “Rebel” Caldwell and Sophie Graystone, a couple who clashes at every turn with the need for control.  I hope you’ll enjoy the rocky journey they travel to fall in love.  Please enjoy an excerpt:

Once Rebel held two steaming cups of coffee, he headed back to the table and sat beside her.  Much to his relief, she wasted no time in touching him.  She wrapped one hand around her cup, and wrapped the other around his forearm, her fingers drawing lazy circles against his skin.

“I’m curious,” she said as her fingers taunted the nerves beneath his skin, “how did you get your nickname?”

He chuckled low under his breath.  Curiosity was a good start.

“Curious, huh?”

She nodded.

“I’ve never been one to follow protocol.”

“In the Army?”

“In life.  I enlisted in an act of rebellion.”

“Is that a decision you regret?”

“Not in the least.  Thunder, Chaos, and Ace made it all worthwhile.”

“You guys are close.”

“Family.”

“I take it there are several stories behind those nicknames too.”

He nodded without elaboration.

“So,” she prompted, “tell me about your team.”

“Can’t do that.”

“Why?”

“Confidential.  I’d have to silence you if I told you and I’m not sure that’s possible.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“I’m confident you’d find a way to challenge my methods.”

“You’d be disappointed if I didn’t.”

He snickered, aroused as hell by the fact that she didn’t hesitate before she fired right back at him.  No doubt, she’d challenge him alright and she was absolutely correct when she responded – disappointed didn’t begin to describe his feelings.

“Thunder assembled Alpha Four when he retired from the Army. It only took three phone calls to build a team.”

“The four of you are very loyal.”

He nodded.  “There’s just something about fighting evil that brings a team together.”

“Do you think about it often?”

He hesitated, weighing the decision to answer her.  He’d seen a whole lot of evil during his military tours, things that he’d never share with her.  Yet, thanks to Uncle Sam and Thunder, he’d learned to file it so far away that even memory couldn’t find it.

He glanced down at her fingers, still rubbing circles on his forearm and distracting him from answering her question.  Her soft, gentle touch caused the nerves under his skin to quiver with excitement.  What in the hell had she asked?

“Sophie?”

“Hmmm?”

“I can’t concentrate when you do that.”

Her brow furrowed.  “Do what?”

He glanced down at her fingers.  “That.  You’re driving me crazy.”

“Oh, really?”

Before he could stop himself, he nodded.  Oh. Hell. So much for never let them see you sweat.  He’d pretty much just handed her a whole locker of ammunition.

“Well, then.”  She blinked those deep, dark eyelashes several times as her fingers continued their assault.  “Perhaps you should answer my question.”

“No.”

“No?”

“I mean, no I don’t think about the evils in my past often.  Alpha Four gives me plenty to think about.”

“Are you in danger?”

“Not always.  Sometimes our assignments are as mundane as installing a security system.”

“Other times you put your life on the line for someone else.”

“Yes.”

“Like me.”

“Well, no one’s tried to kill you …. yet.”  He gave her hand a slight squeeze, buying a second of courage for his next comment.  “But I’d put my life on the line for you without a second thought.”

Tracey’s Review

Mia Dymond has become one of my go-to authors for quirky action-filled stories, with strong and sassy women and hot sexy alpha men. Treasure Me, the first in Mia’s new Alpha Four series, has all of these things going for it. As with all of Mia’s books, I enjoyed the story, and liked the characters, but the problem for me here is that, for such a short read, there was just a whole lot going on. The speed with which things happened was unrealistic; the two main characters, Sophie Graystone and Dagan ‘Rebel’ Caldwell, have known each other for just a few days before declaring their love for each other. The whole ‘insta-love’ thing is always a hiccup for me, and it just wasn’t believable here, because they really know nothing about each other. This being said, the idea of the story is interesting, and I loved, as always, the sidekick characters that will surely, in typical Mia fashion, have the starring roles in the subsequent books in the series.

Although I am only giving Treasure Me 3.5 stars, I like Mia’s books and style enough to continue reading whatever she writes, so am looking forward to seeing Kat’s and Chaos’ story, and recommend this one for Mia’s fans.B

Synopsis

Raffy Fortuna knows all about luck, and she’s not interested in pushing it. But sometimes luck pushes you to the places you least expect.

Sassy Italian-Australian newspaper reporter Raffy has been ultra-superstitious ever since her ex-fiance saw her in her bridal gown before they got hitched – and left her at the altar. But as luck would have it, one of her new assignments at Press Publishing is a feature series challenging some of the most common superstitions in the lead-up to Friday the thirteenth. It’s her worst nightmare – not helped by the grumpy, yet annoyingly handsome cameraman accompanying her to film the daily online videos for the newspaper’s site.

Tina’s Review

*** Provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. ***

Raffaella Fortuna has the right to be superstitious. When your name literally translates to “Rough Luck”, you’d be, too. She works as a lifestyle reporter at Press Publishing in Adelaide (Australia). Growing up in an Italian family, superstitions run her life. Tass Bence also works for Press Publishing, but in the Video department and had the displeasure of meeting Raffy earlier that morning when her umbrella disposed of his fresh iced latte, causing her to wear half of it. Now she’s showing up in his office stating her boss specifically requested him to film her series of articles in which she has to conquer one superstition a day, leading up to Friday the Thirteenth.

Keep in mind that this is written by an Australian author and the book takes place in Australia. Some of the wording and terminology differs slightly from American. That said, the main characters are easily enjoyable. There are not a lot of secondary characters. The plot moves along smoothly and for being such a short novella, it packs plenty of content. The story is sweet. Cute ending. Overall, it ‘s a nice quick & light read.

Carla2Carla Caruso was born in Adelaide, grew up amid a boisterous extended Italian family – yet somehow managed to become a bookworm…
Carla always wanted to be a novelist, annoying the kindergarten teachers by dictating long, detailed stories to them.  It just took her a while to realise her childhood dream – journalism seemed a more practical course. Her media career has included stints as a newspaper and magazine journalist, government PR and fashion stylist. These days, she works as a freelance journalist and copywriter. She began seriously writing fiction three years ago when she went freelance full-time.
The romance genre appeals as she is a sucker for rom-coms (especially if Channing Tatum is in the mix) and likes to think her Italian ancestry means she lives with passion. Hobbies include watching trashy TV shows, fashion (her mum named her after Carla Zampatti!), astrology and running. She lives in Adelaide.

Definitely Maybe Series- Book 2

By Ophelia London2cb3f-add-to-goodreads-button

Synopsis

A new adult title from Entangled’s Embrace imprint…

Some guys are impossible to forget.

Rachel Daughtry has a 10-year plan that leaves no room for mistakes. Or not-so-serious boys–including Oliver Wentworth, the freshman boyfriend she’s never forgotten. Now she’s back in San Francisco with an awesome-slash-scary new job. Unfortunately, The Plan doesn’t cover things like meeting her best friend’s new “secret” guy…Oliver.

Fortunately, no one knows that Rachel and Oliver were ever together, and endless bikini wax torture couldn’t make Rachel hurt her friend. But it’s killing Rachel. She’s not over him. Not even a little. And as her 10-year-plan crumbles around her, Rachel realizes that maybe–just maybe–Oliver feels the same way.

Now Rachel is on the verge of losing all control. And her best friend. And the love of her life…

Tina’s Review

Rachel Daughtry is serious about her goals, she has a plan. A 10-year plan. But before that, she has one last day to have a “normal teenager” experience before she begins her college education at University of San Francisco.
Oliver Wentworth happens upon Rachel the day before school starts and they form an instant bond and have a mutual attraction. He wants more but she’s always hiding from her brother, who just so happens to be the president of the student body.
Six years later, they meet again but things are… complicated.

This story can be read as a stand-alone book.
The story opens up on the day before Freshman year at USF. Chapter Two jumps ahead to “Six Years Later…”. For a while, it sort of teeter-totters from past to present as the story unfolds making it a little difficult to connect to the characters. When it finally settles into present day formatting, the main characters are college graduates with careers or pending careers, mid/upper-twenties and relatively spot-on maturity-wise, except for Megan. But, I guess every group of friends has to have one that’s more flighty, immature and slightly annoying. Sarah was more mature. Rachel is a decent heroine, but her fears and insecurities have to be battled. Oliver is a strong, stable hero. The plot moves along at a steady pace & flows more smoothly after the flashing back is over with. There’s minimal conflict with satisfactory resolve. Minor predictability. Overall, a nice story about love, second chances and forgiveness. Finding your place in the world doesn’t always go according to plan.
