By Angela Claire

Synopsis:

A sexy category romance from Entangled’s Brazen imprint…

Never mix business with one night of playful, sizzling pleasure…

If lawyer Angie O’Hare needed another reason to hate New York City, this would be it. Locked out of her room and stranded in the hallway. Wearing only a towel. Lovely. But then, rescue arrives—in the form of the wickedly hot, funny guy in the penthouse next door. Angie is so relieved that she ignores her usual buzz-kill tendencies, and agrees to have a drink with Mr. Sexy Salvation…

But things don’t stop at just a drink. Or even a hot make-out session.

Cue one night of hot, ultra-x-rated sexy time. No names. No personal information. And the next morning, Angie sneaks out, returning to her prim-and-proper life, every hair in place. But New York City isn’t done with Angie yet. Because her meeting that morning is with CEO Jed Worth… whose bed she did everything but sleep in last night! And Jed isn’t the sort of man to take “conflict of interest” as an answer…

Tina’s Review

Angie O’Hare is a Detroit lawyer and is in New York for her client. After a long day of conference meetings, she finally checked into her room after midnight & all she wanted was to take a long, hot bubble bath. She’s been kindly upgraded to a penthouse suite but when she leaves the room to get ice, her key card decided to no longer work, leaving her stranded in the hallway wearing nothing but her towel and mortification. Her decidedly bad day only got worse when her neighbor, Mr Gorgeous Guy, spotted her locked out. To her embarrassment and amazement, he came to her rescue & offered more…

Jed Worth is the CEO of Worth Industries. He took his grandfather’s flailing inheritance and began to build it into a conglomeration of mostly computer based business, buying out smaller companies. When he’s called into an acquisitions meeting because the opposing lawyer is being a picky little bitch, the last person he expects to see is the woman who sneaked out of his bed earlier that morning.

My Thoughts:

First thought: Heh, ain’t that some twisted irony?

You have to appreciate the sardonic nature of walking into a conference meeting, expecting to go head-to-head with your opposition only to learn that you were more than head-to-head with the opposition’s client just a few, short hours ago.

This is a VERY short story that literally revolves around 2-3 days then flashes forward to a day six months later. This would make a good build-up prequel novella, but as a complete novella I felt it was lacking  some plot substance and the ending was a little weak and vague.

The characters, primary and secondary, were enjoyable. The interaction between Angie and Bob was fun. The chemistry between Jed and Angie was nice, not overpowering.  While there really was not a lot of dimension to this novella, it was well-written and flowed smoothly.

Final thought:  The ending felt rushed and incomplete. I would have liked to seen the story wrap up a little tighter.

Author Bio:

Barbara Griffin NovakAngela Claire’s first love was romance novels, but she resolved to give them up temporarily for law books (which were considerably less fun). In a quest for a ‘responsible’ career, she headed off to law school, obtained her diploma and settled into a corporate law practice in New York city… which she hated! After staying in the rat race long enough to pay back her massive student loans, Angela returned to her roots in the Midwest to raise her two sons and worked as a lawyer at a more leisurely pace than big city law firm life would allow. She writes in her spare time and finds romance in real life with her husband of 28 years.

Tina’s Review

Cade Evigan was part of the Marine Special Ops with his buddy Rick, but now he’s out & has come to help Rick clean up his hometown by becoming a Sheriff’s Deputy. He’s learned some hard lessons in the Marines & knows that those that are TOO helpful are usually the ones who want you dead the quickest. He doesn’t know how to take Katrina’s bold approaches and can’t help but suspect her motives. PTSD dogs his every step and the town is wary of the new “psycho cop” in town.

Katrina Killian is an undercover DEA agent working in the midst of her ruthless Uncle’s MC, managing the bar in which they meet and hang out. The old-timers she grew up with are all gone now and the new batch of crew members are getting more difficult to fool by the day. Her uncle’s no longer a safety net and she’s being watched. One wrong move could land her in the hospital or worse. She’s intrigued by Cade and finds him equal parts frustrating, sexy, and comfortable. As the times passes by, she pushes her way into his life with less and less fight.

While I cannot find a single thing wrong with this book, I found myself fighting to get it read. I was constantly distracted by even the most minute of things. Maybe it’s the fact that Cade is “dead inside” and continually shutting down. I enjoy the annoyingly sassy determination of Trina though. I like how she pushes and forces him to admit things he did not even realize. For once, I actually like the heroine more than the hero.
The secondary character fill the love/hate roles well. Chemistry was denied for nearly 1/2 the book, even though it was always simmering below the surface but when they came together, things got hot! The dialogue and interaction was good. There were some great catchy, witty moments. The plot was slow to get rolling but once it did, there was a sufficient amount of action, intrigue and flirtatious danger to keep you turning those pages. The climactic conflict and it’s resolve were great! Most importantly, it was not predictable at every turn.

Michel’s Review

We met Lindsay and Matt in the previous novel in the Unbreakable series by Rebecca Shea.  They are getting their own story in Unforgiven.

Unforgiven is an emotional story.  It is a story of love lost, poor decisions, addiction, eating disorders, and healing.

Lindsay is offered her dream job in Arizona.  She does not hesitate on making the decision of taking the job.  She makes this decision knowing that Matt will not follow her to Arizona.  She does not stop to think about the damage this decision can do to their relationship.  She does not stop to think about the consequences she will suffer if she loses Matt.  She is self centered and selfish concerning her dream job.  Needless to say, not only does she damage her relationship with Matt, she more or less severs it completely.

Once she is in Arizona things look a little differently.  Her dream job is not as wonderful as she thought it would be.  She is lonely and missing her friends and family.  She is heartbroken from losing Matt.  While she is pursuing her dream job, she is self destructing in her personal life.  She will hit rock bottom, hurt the ones she loves, betray friends, and almost kill herself.  Now she will have to learn to live with her mistakes, take back control of her life, make amends with those she hurt, and find happiness within herself.  The one thing she desires most is Matt’s love once again.  How will she be able to repair the heartbreak she caused by choosing a job over his love?

Matt gave Lindsay his complete heart.  He was devastated when she chose her job over him.  Her actions in Arizona were like pouring salt into his wounds.  He wants the best for Lindsay and hopes she finds peace in her life.  He doesn’t know if he can dismiss her callous treatment of his love.

I loved the emotional side of the story.  I thought Lindsay’s journey from hitting her all time low to healing and finding the true meaning of happiness was heartbreaking and uplifting.  Rebecca Shea did a beautiful job portraying those circumstances.

What I found disappointing is the book seemed to focus on Lindsay.  There were small amounts of Matt’s side of the story.  The reader did not get to see much of their romance in the beginning.  It was hard to validate their decision to get back together in the end.  There was not much build up, romantic interaction, and validation.  Most of this book focused on the time of their separation.  I would of liked to see more romance.

I am happy that Lindsay and Matt got the happily ever after they needed.

I would highly recommend this book and the Unbreakable series.

ARC Review: The Crystal Slipper by Selena Fulton

The Crystal Slipper

The Crystal Slipper

2cb3f-add-to-goodreads-button‘By Selena Fulton

Synopsis:

A paranormal category romance from Entangled’s Covet imprint…

Sometimes you just have to believe…

A single crystal slipper. It was probably the weirdest gift librarian Celinda Branham ever received during a Christmas gift exchange. Who would even wear these in the real world? Not Celinda, wearer of sensible shoes and fairy tale naysayer. That said, she certainly has the requisite wicked stepmother, irritating stepsister, and empty bank account. Of course, if she actually believed in all that fantastical junk, she could wait for her Prince Charming…

Only Prince Charming doesn’t exist.

But Preston Chandler believes in fairy tales. Oh, does he ever. All he did was spurn the advances of a certain witch, and now his sister is under a sleeping spell. And the only way to break it? Find the other glass slipper and give someone “Love’s First Kiss.” But when Preston finally tracks down Celinda, he’s dismayed to discover that the shy librarian who owns the other shoe has no interest in anything remotely resembling magic—including love. Now he must find a way into his Cinderella’s cynical heart, or lose his sister… and his only chance for true love.

Tina’s Review

** ARC was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an HONEST review. **

A modern-day fairy tale.

“Only uneducated people believed in magic and superstition.” was librarian Celinda Branham’s philosophy. When she receives a glass slipper at a co-worker’s Christmas gift exchange, in provokes her curiosity though. No matter, she was not going to hold her breath for Prince Charming to waltz right into her life.

Preston Chandler is guilt-ridden, certain it is a witch’s curse that has his sister in a coma & he’s to blame. As she lay unwaking in a hospital been from “unknown causes”, he’s charged with finding a pair of glass slippers & solving twisted little riddles before her 21st birthday. He’d already located & now possesses one slipper, but the other is in America and time is running out.  Preston jets off from London, England to Jacksonville, Florida to follow a lead on the second slipper.

Whimsical, yet bizarre. That is the best way to summarize this story.

Preston acted with arrogance and impatience towards his employees and was heartless towards a young witch friend that he grew up with. In a moment of deep hurt and wounded pride, she lashed out to hurt him and put a sleeping spell on his sister. He needed to solve the nonsensical riddles the witch had left for him so he can wake his little sister again. Meanwhile, Celinda was wary of Preston, despite the electric draw she felt towards him. He’s talking like a lunatic about magic as if fairy tales are real. But if he’s as crazy as she suspected, why did she feel compelled to help him?

The main characters and plot are well-enough written, but fantastical, which I know is intentional… Celinda is meant to be the embodiment of Cinderella while Preston Chandler – P.C. is Prince Charming and his comatose sister is Sleeping Beauty and even a Fairy Godmother… There’s enchanted glass slippers, a wicked step-mother, a spoiled & bratty step-sister and an incensed witch. The only thing missing was GusGus! The supporting characters covered a colorful spectrum. The plot was clever & sprinkled with wit. The conflict was ever-present and grew more complicated as the story evolved, but it had a predictable ending. It was very “PG-13”. There is one IMPLIED sex scene, but no details are exposed. No heat. That’s not to say that they did not have chemistry. It just seemed that neither knew what to do with said chemistry.

Robin’s Review

****This review will contain spoilers if you have not read Happenstance Part 1.

When I read and wrote my review for Happenstance, I believed the story written by Jamie McGuire was a stand-alone novella. I recently learned this was not the case, when I discovered that Happenstance is actually a young adult novella series. Through the course of events surrounding the tragic accident that took the life of Erin Alderman, we were able to learn that Erin Easter was raised in the wrong home, having been switched at birth. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that we will be able to read more about Erin Easter as she adjusts to her life as the true daughter of Sam and Julianne Alderman.

Imagine the changes that might take place in your life if you learned you were switched at birth. Not only has Erin Easter lacked a parental support system, but she has lacked being loved. She has essentially raised herself, having been neglected by her mother. Erin has been working at Dairy Queen to earn spending money and to save for a college education. All of these circumstances combined have made Erin very mature for her age. Happenstance Part 2 focuses on the aftermath of the tragedy and changes to her life, going forward. Erin has been taken in by her biological parents, one of the wealthiest couples in Blackwell. She suddenly has a new bedroom in a new home. She now has parents who care about her emotional and physical well-being. Sam and Julianne want to provide for her and make up for lost time. Erin Easter finds herself literally walking in Erin Alderman’s shoes.

Bullying continues to be the primary issue of the Happenstance novella series. Erin is still being bullied, although the focus of the bullying has changed with her new circumstances. It remains a mystery to Erin why her best friends, Erin Alderman and Erin Masterson, turned on her in the fifth grade, but she is about to uncover the hidden truth with the discovery of Erin Alderman’s journals. And, although her relationship with Weston Gates has progressed, he seems to be holding on to his own secrets.

Happenstance Part 2 follows on the heels of a very strong first novella. In my opinion, this second novella started off slowly, with the beginning of the story primarily focusing on the changes taking place in Erin’s life. However, the author definitely captured my attention about halfway through the story. I found myself intrigued by the contents of the journals and the truth of what they revealed. Sometimes the truth isn’t so straight forward, creating more questions than answers. Although Happenstance Part 2 is not as strong as the first novella in the series, I did enjoy reading it. My rating is 4 stars. I look forward to what I think will be a fantastic ending to this series!

Michel’s Review

What If by Rebecca Donovan is one of those books that leaves the reader with lasting impressions and thoughts. It was meticulously written with a unique style. The story is told through multiple POV. It is a story of childhood friendships that leave a lasting impression on the main characters as they leave childhood behind and become adults. Their connections throughout the story are memorable and the reader begins to understand how these connections mold the story into what it is.

We have all had those “What If” moments in our lives. We have questioned our actions and reactions to moments in life that have impacted our future. What If is the story of three girls and one boy that have a powerful friendship in their childhood years. As they begin to become young adults their lives start to take different directions. Their friendships start to drift into more of acquaintances. But below the surface those deep bonds of friendship will be with them throughout their lives.

One friend, Richelle has abruptly moved away and lost complete touch with the other three. Nicole has moved on to the popular crowd and left her old friends behind. Cal and Rae have managed to remain close.

A year after high school is where the story begins. Nicole has left to go to an Ivy League school. No one has heard a word from her since she left. She has dropped all communication with new and old friends.

Cal wonders what has happened. Rae could care less because she has anger issues towards Nicole for betraying their friendship.

A year later Cal comes face to face with a girl that is Nicole. But is that girl really Nicole? Her name is Nyelle and she is nothing like Nicole at all. Nyelle is a free spirit and spur of the moment kind of girl.

Thus begins the mystery of who Nyelle really is. Cal is determined to find the Nicole he once knew because she is his “What If” girl.   As the story unfolds the reader gets more insight to what really happened. As Nyelle begins to lose her façade and Nicole begins to resurface, Cal is there to help her remember exactly who she is. Cal will take Nyelle as Nicole or Nyelle. He will take her anyway he can. He wants her back in his life. But as the story unfolds there will be revelations that will affect all the friends and their perceptions of what they thought they knew about life.

I found this was a lovely novel about the bonds of friendship. The evolution from childhood to adulthood.   But I also found at times I was having a hard time keeping up with the multiple POV’s and multiple relationships each character had with the other characters. I also felt when the final “aha” moment was revealed I had a hard time buying it. I felt like Nyelle bordered on being insane. I felt like Cal sold himself short. I felt Rae seemed a bit insignificant in the whole scheme of things.

I am not sure if this book is YA or New Adult. It felt more like a YA book. While as a mature adult and seasoned reader I found the book somewhat unbelievable. My sense of reasoning just could not grasp it. But then I took a step back and thought about my teenage daughter and how her relationships are with her friends. I observed that she could grasp all the multiple POV’s and multiple relationships with great ease. I also could see how young people can walk away with a different perception of a situation than a mature adult would. Their perceptions of the world are new, fresh, jaded at times because of all the social media, and quite different because of our information type of society. Their coping mechanisms are different than the coping mechanisms we adults have had in our younger lives. With that being said I think Rebecca Donovan created a story that this audience will grasp and love.

I would highly recommend this book.

Tina’s Review

Maggie Jameson has been molded and shaped her entire life to live and love baseball. Her father, being the owner of a major league team, the New York Saints, raised her at the stadium. The team became her extended family. Fans had adopted her as the unofficial mascot, dubbing her “Saint Maggie”. She left NY only to attend college in Chicago to learn the ins and outs of owning and operating a MLB team so she could take over the Saints when he was ready to step down. Or so that was the plan before the devil and his minions arrived.
Alex Winters and his two best friend, Lucas and Malachi, lived and loved baseball in college. Alex was an outstanding catcher. But things can change in a single, horrific second, like when a bomb detonates during a game. Alex and his friends were heroes for diving into the wreckage, saving lives.
But their heroic acts came at a price.
Their days on the team were over, the damage they’d sustained was to much to return. Although they had branched out over the years since, they remained as close as ever & his friends backed him when he declared that he wanted to buy & save his favorite team from certain death.
“Plan for the worst, expect the unexpected.”
That was the motto that Alex, Lucas, and Mal now lived by and Alex knew that Maggie was going to be one the biggest “unexpected” of all. Especially with the owner’s vote coming up and a smarmy competitor looking to sabotage his bid.

For a debut novel, I am very pleased.
Maggie has finally graduated college and is ready to stand by her dad’s side as owner/CEO-in-waiting but her dreams are instantly crushed when the business meeting she attends blindsides her. Her dad just accepted a bid from Alex Winters to buy the team. Dear ol’ dad gave Maggie no warning or indication that he’d even WANTED to sell, so she’s left full of rage and hurt.
Alex has always loved the Saints and knew it was struggling, so in an effort to save the flailing team, be offers to buy it from Tom Jameson. He’s got to somehow convince Tom’s daughter that he’s the best chance the team has to survive and that he needs her help to make it happen.
Add one disgruntled former employee with plenty of attitude and newly-gained money to burn and you’ve got a wonderful recipe for escalating conflicts.
Alex is a phenomenal character, I really couldn’t find a flaw in him at all. Maggie was well-written as well, but I think she needed to put her professional panties on and quit allowing her emotions overwhelm her over everything. The pity parties would only be tolerated for so long. The plot was solid, the concept was strong. I really liked all of the secondary characters, except Will Sutter. His character was portrayed beautifully as the extremely dislikable villan. The story flowed smoothly and was easy to read. The numerous conflicts escalated throughout the book and each time were met with a level-headed resolve. The final conflict was managed and conquered methodically and with precision.
Well done, Melanie Scott!
The ending was a little loose, but with the next installment of the series, ANGEL IN ARMANI, due to release only four months from now, I imagine the story will pick up close to where this one left off.
I look forward to finding out how this all continues!

a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof

They say when you assume that you make an ass out of you and me. Kenton Mayson learned this lesson firsthand when he made assumptions about Autumn Freeman and the kind of woman she is based on what little information he had. What he finds out is she’s not only beautiful, but also smart, funny, a fighter, and exactly the kind of woman he wants to share his life with. Autumn made assumptions of her own about Kenton, and now he needs to prove her wrong in order to protect her and their future.

Michel’s Review

Aurora Rose Reynolds has done it again! Another hot alpha Mayson that makes us swoon and temperatures rise.

We met Kenton Mayson in the previous Until series.  He is the cousin to the Mayson brothers of that series.  He is mysterious, dangerous, and a self made man.  His work as a bounty hunter and private investigator keeps him busy in the underground world.  He doesn’t have time for relationships or love.  When he sees his manwhore cousins finding good women, settling down, and raising families, he’s envious and wants that kind of life for himself.  When Autumn Freeman is placed in his home for protection it is very clear she is not that kind of woman.  She is a stripper and because of her profession she has loose morals.  ASSUMPTION!

Kenton is in for a real eye opener.  Autumn is more than a two bit stripper.  She is intelligent, funny, loving, and innocent.  She is everything he wants in a woman that he wants to spend his life with.  Because she is naive and innocent, he assumes that she will trust his words.  Again ASSUMPTION!  He will have to earn her trust, break through her walls, and show her what love really means.

Autumn has been around plenty of men. Most of these men are cheaters, liars, and untrustworthy.  She assumes Kenton is the same way once he makes some derogatory remarks about her chosen profession.  Assumption!

A life time of heartache and wounds keeps Autumn from opening up to Kenton.  She thinks he will see her past life as a reason to reject her.  Assumption!

These two have made a lot of assumptions about one another.  They are clearly attracted to one another but both are clinging to their assumptions.  Once they let go of those assumptions and open their hearts, they are going to find something much better than what they assumed happily ever after would be.

I loved this story.  Aurora’s writing and male characters remind me of Kristen Ashley’s men in all their alpha hotness.  Aurora has that same easy going manner that makes her stories flow with natural ease.  Her voice is fresh, fun, sexy, and entertaining.  Her male characters may be hot Alpha men, but her women outshine these boys.  They are the perfect blend of sweet and sassy, innocence and street smart, intelligent and naive, and they know how to put these Alpha men on their knees.  And like Kristen Ashley, her dialogue will have you laughing, crying, and swooning.  You will close this book with a big smile and a heart full of happiness.

I loved the new characters introduced into the Mayson world.  Jason stole my heart with his wit and geekiness.  Kai peeked my interest with his mysterious badness.  Sven has more in his pockets than a lot of cash.  I am so looking forward to what comes next in this series.

I highly recommend Assumption by Aurora Rose Reynolds.

**Note:  I don’t usually compare authors to one another.  But when I compared Aurora Rose Reynolds with Kristen Ashley, it was intended as a huge compliment.  She evokes the same kind of light hearted happiness while giving us an intense romance.  It is a gift to be able to pull that kind of magic through words alone.**

Synopsis

as·sump·tion:

a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof

Assumption!

Synopsis

From the New Adult sensation and New York Times bestselling author of Bully and Until You

Madoc and Fallon. Two estranged teenagers playing games that push the boundaries between love and war…

She’s back.

For the two years she’s been away at boarding school, there was no word from her. Back when we lived in the same house, she used to cut me down during the day and then leave her door open for me at night.

I was stupid then, but now I’m ready to beat her at her own game…

I’m back.

Two years and I can tell he still wants me, even if he acts like he’s better than me.

But I won’t be scared away. Or pushed down. I’ll call his bluff and fight back. That’s what he wants, right? As long as I keep my guard up, he’ll never know how much he affects me….

The Fall Away Series

Bully

BullyMy name is Tate.

He doesn’t call me that, though. He’ll barely refer to me at all, and he’ll hardly ever speak to me.

But he still won’t leave me alone.

We were best friends once. Then he turned on me and made it his mission to ruin my life. I’ve been humiliated, shut out, and gossiped about all through high school. His pranks and rumors got worse as time wore on. I even went to Europe for a year, just to avoid him.

But I’m done hiding from him now, and there’s no way I’ll allow him to ruin another year. He might not have changed, but I have.

It’s time to fight back.

When one brave young woman stands up to her best friend Jared, now tormenter, the consequences go beyond anything either of them ever would have imagined….

Until You

Until YouThis is Jared’s story.

Have you ever been so angry that hitting things felt good? Or numb to all emotions? The past few years have been like that for me. Traveling between fury and indifference with no stops in between. Some people hate me for it, while others are scared of me. But none of them can hurt me, because I don’t care about anything or anyone.

Except Tatum.

I love her so much that I hate her. I hate that I can’t let her go. We used to be friends, but I found out that I couldn’t trust her—or anyone else. So I hurt her. I pushed her away. But I still need her. She centers me. Engaging her, challenging her, pushing her—it’s the one last part of me that feels anything anymore.

But then she went and screwed everything up. She left for a year and came back a different girl. Now, when I push, she pushes back…and I’m not sure either one of us will ever be the same.

Includes a teaser for RIVAL, the next unforgettable novel from Penelope Douglas….

Robin’s Review

Once again, Penelope Douglas has written a powerful story for her Fall Away series. Rival is a new adult contemporary romance novel written from a dual point of view. It’s the explosive story about Madoc Caruthers and his stepsister, Fallon Pierce. Expect white heat in Rival, similar to the tone and intensity found in the first novel of the series, Bully.

Their family is completely dysfunctional. His father is married to her mother. Biologically speaking, the siblings are not related. Their parents are estranged, with neither parent living at the family home. After being forced to attend a Catholic boarding school for two years, Fallon decides to return home, where she finds Madoc and the housekeeper, Addie, are the only persons in residence. Hostility reigns between Madoc and Fallon. They clash repeatedly. Filled with rage, Fallon does not back down from Madoc. He goads her, she taunts him. It’s an interesting type of foreplay, but imagine what follows.

There is so much more to this novel than a sibling rivalry. The plot of Rival is absolutely compelling. While reading, I found myself continually shocked by the unexpected twists and turns layered into the story. Penelope Douglas uses flashbacks to fill in the blanks. Every time I thought I knew what was going to happen, I found that I was completely wrong. Once I reached a certain point in Rival, I found myself struggling with the believability factor, as it pertained to the ongoing hostility between Madoc and Fallon. However, this wasn’t something I continued to feel for the entire novel. Other than this one drawback, I can say that I found myself completely invested in Madoc, Fallon and their story. Rival has earned a solid 4-star rating.

Michel’s Review- 4.5 Stars

Rival by Penelope Douglas is book three in the Fall Away series. It can be read as a stand alone or in series order. The previous books are Bully and Until You. These books feature Jared and Tate and the characters from this series. This is where we meet Madoc, Jared’s best friend and cohort. Of the two, Madoc is the more laid back, fun loving, party kind of guy. He seems to let things roll off easily and nothing brings him down. With his family’s wealth, lack of parental guidance, and good looks it appears that Madoc has everything going for him. But behind this façade is a completely different young man. His family is dysfunctional, he is a product of a split home, and is left to his own devices most of the time. His father is a high profile attorney that has more interest in his career than he does his family. He remarried but never invested himself in his new family. His new wife was obviously only married to him for his prestigious standing and wealth. She also had a teenage daughter that she neglected as well.

These two teenagers were thrown together and forced to become a family. They were polar opposites. Fallon was a shy, quiet, and studious kind of girl. Madoc was a popular party kind of guy. Most of the time the two butted heads and took sibling rivalry to a new level. It would seem these two were destined to hate each other. But they both had something in common, they were both deeply hurt by their parents neglect and disregard. They found solace in each other that soon led to the forbidden attraction to one another. Once the parents discover the secret relationship between the two all hell breaks loose. What little family unity existed is now fractured beyond repair. Fallon is sent away to a Catholic boarding school. Madoc is left to his own devices. Their parents have more or less gone their own ways, living apart, and married in name only. There are deep resentments and malicious feelings for all that are involved.

Two years later Fallon returns to her former home with a vendetta of revenge. She wants to destroy Madoc and his father for the treatment she received in their home. Madoc hates Fallon after she deserted him and left him to deal with the ugliness their parents had made of their lives.

It’s an all out war. It’s a love hate relationship. It’s their way of dealing with the feelings neither one of them knows how to express. It is their foreplay.

What unravels and comes into play will have the readers glued to the pages. The story is unpredictable and very well plotted. Fallon and Madoc are Rival’s that make the battlefield look like a playground. When the peace treaty is finally reached the reader’s will be ecstatic.

Rival is sizzling hot! It is almost an erotic romance. The connection between Fallon and Mardoc is undeniable.

I loved how Penelope Douglas portrayed these two teenagers maturing into adulthood. They were very realistic to what young people are really like. She showed the many different types of families our modern day world knows. The secondary characters, the cast from the first two books, their families, and their community will definitely hit home. I am invested in this series and cannot wait for the next book, Falling Away to release in January, 2015.

This series is New Adult and is graphic. It will appeal to young adults as well as the mature audience. It is well written, has original plots, charismatic characters, and steamy romance.

I highly recommend Rival and The Fall Away series.

Top Pick6 Star ReadMy seventeen year old daughter has read the Fall Away series. It has become her favorite. She has recommended this series to all her friends and they love it. When I asked them what made this series so special, they all replied that the characters seemed very real. They were like a lot of their friends and classmates. They loved that Penelope showed a truthful side of how teenagers really are in today’s world. Bully made a huge impact among their friends and fellow students. Bully is now on the recommended reading list in the Anti-Bullying campaign in their school.

The WVHS Girls have rated and voted the Fall Away Series & Rival their TOP PICK OF 2014.
