Michel’s Review
The Fall Away series by Penelope Douglas has come to an end. Although it breaks my heart to say goodbye to all of the beloved characters in this series, it also made my heart explode with happiness on how it ended. The series has come full circle and once again the readers got to experience the love/hate relationship between Jared and Tate. This time they are older and ready to handle all the hiccups that life throws at them.
In the previous book, Falling Away, at the ending Jared and Tate broke up. They were the couple that all of the characters looked up to . They were the couple that overcame a very difficult relationship that should of ended before it began. Jared was a BULLY. Tate was a VICTIM. Somehow these two found a way to put aside the animosity and find the true meaning of love. They graduated high school in a loving relationship. They spent the first two years of college building a future. Somewhere along the way something went wrong once again. It wasn’t their relationship that was wrong, it was life. Tate was growing as an individual. She had solid goals that she was working towards. She was pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor. Jared was in limbo. Although he was attending college and was successful in the ROTC, it was not his dream. He didn’t know what he wanted to do in his future. He didn’t really have goals or dreams to build upon. The only thing he was sure of was his love for Tate. He was also smart enough to recognize that if they continued on the path they were on that somewhere along the way they would end up resenting each other. His misery would cause resentments. Her ambitions would cause resentments. Rather than continue on their mapped out course, Jared chose a new road. He had to take a break in their relationship to find himself. He had to find where his passions lied, what he could do, and how to become a better man for Tate. His intentions were to only take a break until he could come back with self respect and real ambitions. But Tate saw things differently. She saw the break as a break up. She saw it as an ending rather than a beginning. She was through with Jared once and for all.
After two years of separation, Jared is forced to come home because of family. He has been avoiding his family and friends once he realized that he and Tate were over for good. Jared has built a solid career and has found his true calling. At times it seems meaningless because he no longer has Tate in his life. But now he has to prove that he has become a better man and face the music. He has to face Tate. He has to face his family. He has to show them he has become something better.
During Jared’s two year absence Tate has changed. She has become bitter, emotionless, and resentful. Their friends have stayed by her side and supported her through her heartbreak at the cost of their relationship with Jared. She has to finally face Jared and let go of all the resentments before she can move forward in life.
The push and pull between Jared and Tate is just as strong as it has always been. These two have been a very important piece of the other all their lives. Now it’s time to put the pieces together and form one unit.
Penelope Douglas wrote a very powerful ending for the Fall Away series. She allowed her characters to grow, become true adults with real adult problems, and allowed them to experience the hardships that come along with maturity. In the end they all learned the true meaning of love, respect, and hope.
The Fall Away Series will always be one of my absolute favorite series.

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Penelope Douglas comes a companion novel to Bully.
This is Jared’s story.

Some people hate me for it, while others are scared of me. But none of them can hurt me, because I don’t care about anything or anyone.
Except Tatum.
I love her so much that I hate her. I hate that I can’t let her go. We used to be friends, but I found out that I couldn’t trust her—or anyone else. So I hurt her. I pushed her away. But I still need her. She centers me. Engaging her, challenging her, pushing her—it’s the one last part of me that feels anything anymore.
But then she went and screwed everything up. She left for a year and came back a different girl. Now, when I push, she pushes back…and I’m not sure either one of us will ever be the same.

For the two years she’s been away at boarding school, there was no word from her. Back when we lived in the same house, she used to cut me down during the day and then leave her door open for me at night.
I was stupid then, but now I’m ready to beat her at her own game…
I’m back.
Two years and I can tell he still wants me, even if he acts like he’s better than me.
But I won’t be scared away. Or pushed down. I’ll call his bluff and fight back. That’s what he wants, right? As long as I keep my guard up, he’ll never know how much he affects me….
