A brand new first grade teacher with a potty mouth is not only thrown into a classroom with extremely inquisitive students but also has to deal with their badly behaved parents. Sheridan Monroe may be a brand new teacher but she isn’t a pushover. She is excited to engage her brilliant young students minds. Dealing with their parents is another story.
On her first day in the classroom one little girl captures her attention. English Bridges is a breath of fresh air in a brilliant, unique, and inappropriate way. As the first few weeks of school fly by it’s become apparent that English is not only as smart as a whip but also lacking in behavior direction. She’s charmed by her personality and sense of reasoning. It’s clear that she comes from a loving home but has a different level of behavior than her classmates. It’s not that she is a bad kid, she was just taught differently at home. She intends to bring the matters up in the upcoming parent teacher conferences.
The parent teacher conferences are going well until she meets English Bridges father. Beckley Bridges not only shows up over an hour late but is also rude and obnoxious to her. He leaves her stunned and speechless with his comments. To make matters worse she runs into him at a local club the following weekend when she’s drunk. Her potty mouth and missing roommate leave her at Beckley Bridges mercy.
What starts out as a somewhat good deed turns into a reluctant friendship being held together by a darling six year old girl. When the circumstances of English’s home life become apparent and Sheridan sees a different side of Beckley’s personality, she’s willing to back him one hundred percent.
Beckley Bridges became a single father when he was nineteen years old. For the past six years he has dedicated his life to his daughter. Now her biological mother has reappeared and is threatening to take full custody. The only thing he can do is fight for his daughter with every weapon available. His secret weapon is Sheridan Monroe. He is going to marry her and make her English’s mother.
A long custody battle , a new marriage, and a darling little girl are going to change both Sheridan’s and Beck’s lives for the better. They will both fight to keep English by their side.
A. M. Hargrove knocked it out of the park with For The Love Of English. This was a fun, humorous, and seriously emotional novel. From the classroom to the courtroom and inside the bedroom, everything was realistic. I loved reading this book.
