Goosebumps dot my arms as I become highly aware that there’s not a single drop of noise within earshot. Not even our shoes hitting the dirt make a sound. I want to ask Novela if she notices it, but I don’t want to risk upsetting her more than she is. I try to keep it to myself but then I hear the soft pitter-patter of light footsteps rushing up behind us.

Do you hear us? Do you hear us?

Welcome back. Welcome back.

We’ve been waiting for you, Mila.

Our gazes lock and without looking back, Novela and I take off in a mad sprint down the road

“Oh my God, we’re going to die,” she pants as she struggles desperately to keep up with me.

“We’re not going to die.” I gasp for air as I push my legs harder than I ever have before.

I don’t know what’s behind us. If it’s following us. What it wants. But as we near the edge of town, I dare look back over my shoulder and instantly wish I wouldn’t have. Because standing in the darkness of the road, watching us from a distance, is a lofty figure.

I swallow hard, pressing my hands to the garage as my legs turn into noodles. “It seems crazy, wanting to help someone when you don’t even know them . . . Your life would be easier if you didn’t.”

“My life’s never been easy, but do you know what’s really easy?” he asks, and I shake my head. With a hint of a smile on his face, he reaches out, and I think he’s going to grab me, but instead he taps the box of sparklers I’m holding. “Lighting sparklers.”

I frown warily at the box. “That’s actually harder than it seems.”

Suddenly the wind gusts dead leaves across grass, and the cloudy sky grumbles, warning us of an impending storm. Clasping the lighter in one hand, I open the box and wiggle two sparklers out.

Can I do this?

I give one to Luca then fumble to light the lighter.

Am I really going to do this?

Blame it on my nerves, but I can’t get the damn thing to work.

Maybe I shouldn’t do this?

Finally, Luca pries my fingers off it, flicks the top, and creates a steady flame. He lights his first then sticks it out in front of him as silvery sparks shoot out like a magic wand.

“Put yours up to mine,” he instructs, stuffing the lighter into his back pocket.

With a deep breath, I kiss the tip of his sparkler with mine. Oh, my God, I’m really doing this. They hiss as the flames aglow.

I move the sparkler in a circle in front of me. “Wow.” I forgot how magical a simple firework could be, and for a moment, I see the world through my old eyes, lit up like fireflies that I swear I could catch if I just stuck out my hand.

For the next few minutes, Luca and I play around in the driveway, going through sparkler after sparkler, giggling like a couple of kids as we clumsily skip around. When it comes down to the last one, he lights it up and hands it to me.

As the sparkler reaches the halfway point, Luca moves up behind me and circles his arms around my waist, covering my hand with his so we’re both holding onto it. His breath tickles my ear as he laughs and traces letters in the air. My hand moves with his, but I can barely focus on what he’s writing. I’m too distracted by his chest pressed against my back, his warm fingers covering mine, how very alive I feel in that moment, and how terrified I am.

“Luca, I think . . .” I trail off as he stretches our arms out to the side and fixes his finger under my chin. Turning my head toward him, his eyes search mine, then slowly, he leans in.

Excerpt

As I sit down in a desk toward the back of the room, I try not to think about what my mother said this morning, but I find myself assessing each person as they enter.

It’s not until the object of my stalking walks through the doorway that I consider maybe my crazy mother was right. I quickly realize how insane that would make me for believing her and force myself to stop thinking like my mother. I’ve always been more levelheaded than both my parents, and I want to hold onto the trait.

Tearing my attention away from him, I lean over to grab my textbook and a pen out of my bag. When I sit up, I’m surprised to find he’s taken the desk right next to mine.

Up close, he’s even better looking, but there’s a hint of nervousness in his eyes that I didn’t notice while looking through the lens, which is kind of strange. Usually, I see more when I’m taking pictures. Or maybe he was just happier when he was around his friend.

“Hey,” he greets me with a slightly nervous smile.

“Hey.” I rack my brain for something to say that won’t make me sound awkward, but he beats me to the punch.

“I’m Seth,” he says, extending his hand to me.

“Greyson.” I take his hand, noting it shakes a little in mine. “Is this your first class?”

“For the fall semester, yeah.”

“You’re not a freshman?”

“No, I am,” he replies. “I just started the year this summer.”

I smile, and decide to flirt a little, see where it goes. “So you should be a pro at classes by now.”

“You would think so,” he muses. “But I’m not a fan of school and being a fantastic student is at the bottom of my list, right between getting a good night’s rest and becoming friends with my slobbish roommate.”

“You live in the dorm?” I ask and he nods. “I actually thought about doing that, but my parents insisted I need a place of my own. That it’s good for my aura.”

His brow cocks. “Aura?”

“Yeah, they’re a little crazy like that, but in a good way.” I try to pick up on the vibe he’s giving. Is he just being friendly? Or is he interested in me?

I watch as his eyes trail down over my neck and chest, suddenly realizing that we’re still holding hands. Definitely a bit awkward, but in a good way. And that means he’s interested, right?

When his gaze reaches our joined hands, he startles and quickly pulls away. I catch a flash of alarm in his eyes as he scans the room before looking back at me.

He clears his throat. “So, you just moved here?”

I wonder why he’s acting so weird suddenly. Maybe I misread his interest. Doubtful, though, so what is it? “Yeah, from Florida.”

His eyes snap wide. “Holy shit. How the hell did you end up going from the sunshine state to cowboy central?”

“Is Wyoming cowboy central? I thought that was Texas?”

“Clearly, you haven’t been around when the fair rolls in. It’s like rodeo central. Nothing but cowboy hats, boots, and ridiculously tight pants as far as the eye can see.”

“Sounds… interesting, I guess.”

“Try horrifying. Some of the stuff I’ve seen through those tight jeans,” he shudders, “still haunts my nightmares.”

I laugh at him and he grins, obviously pleased with himself. Like how he was with the girl earlier, he seems to enjoy making people laugh.

I consider what my mom said about finding friends and going out on dates. He’s hot, nice, and funny. As long as I can keep the conversation going and find the right moment, I might ask him out. Get myself out of the damn rut I’ve been in.

Michel’s Review

I am so happy that Jessica Sorensen wrote Seth & Greyson’s book.  These two guys have been the backbone that held all the other characters in this series together.  They offered unconditional friendship and support.  They lent their shoulders when needed.  They helped their friends see the fun side of life.  They showed their friends that love comes in many different ways and it is important to hold onto it.

We first met Seth in the very first book that started the series.  He befriended a lost and socially inept girl.  He drew her out of shell, accepted who she was, and began helping her become a better person.  He is an old soul with a perceptive kind of wisdom.  He was there when Callie fell for Kayden.  He was there when Kayden needed support.  He was there when Luke needed a friend even though he didn’t know he needed it.

During this time he met Greyson.  He was reluctant to start a friendship, let alone relationship with him.  Seth had a very horrific experience that not only left him scarred physically but also left him scarred emotionally.  It has caused him to be cautious about showing people who he really is.  He is cautious about exposing his sexual orientation.

Greyson is open about who he is and what he wants.  He came from an accepting family and never had to hide who he was.  Although he is free to be who he is, he has never really had a meaningful relationship.  He has trouble expressing himself and comes across as aloof and reserved.  Now that he has met Seth he wants to open his heart and soul completely.

Seth and Greyson will have to work through their inner issues.  Together they will come out  stronger and happier.

Seth and Greyson are phenomenal young men that captured my heart from the beginning.  I am happy to know their story.

Excerpt

**from Spark X – the New Adult Version**

Prologue

Asher

I’ve been in love with Ember Rose Edwards for a while, but she doesn’t know it. I can’t tell her, either, not when the battle’s ending solely rests on her making a choice and sacrificing someone she loves. If I were to divulge how I feel, I’d be interfering even more, and I’ve already been banished for entering her life. It’s not something I regret. I made the choice the day I first saw her. I wanted her in my life, regardless of the consequences.

That day feels like such a long time ago, yet it hasn’t been more than a few months. So much has happened since then. So much has changed, for the better and the worse.

God, we were both so different back then.

As I sit beside her bed and watch Ember sleep, my thoughts drift back to the day when I first laid eyes on her…

I was sent to that place to collect a soul, but what I didn’t expect was that I’d end up at a house crammed with a ton of humans, dry humping the shit out of each other. I had instantly wanted to get the hell out.

A rock song plays on the stereo and floats across the room full of people dancing. Beer cans and cups cover the floors, and the air is drenched with the stench of cigarettes. It has been a long week. Michael, the leader of the Angels, has sent me on a total of five missions to collect souls, which is a large amount compared to most Angels. Then again, Michael has never been a fan of me, considering I have Reaper blood.

My sole purpose tonight is to wait until the person dies then collect their soul before the Reapers get ahold of it. I’ve already spotted three Anamotti, and I’m guessing they’re here for the same reason I am—waiting for the person to pass away.

I sense a fight in the air, thick and heavy, like tar.

I lean against the wall near the corner, watching the crowd, drinking a beer, eager for the night to be over. As my gaze travels over each human, I wonder which one of them is the unlucky person who will die tonight. Humans are so fragile, so…

The air suddenly thins and charges with electricity, full of life and death mixed together. My attention drifts to the side of me, my senses sharpening as I zero in on a girl. Ember Rose Edwards. Her name comes to me like a breath of fresh air.

I’ve never met her before, but know her name for solely one reason—she carries Angel blood, just like she carries Reaper blood.

Sadly, I haven’t crossed paths with a Grim Angel in a while, because Reapers are making them a dying breed. Usually, I pass by without so much as a second glance, despite my connection to them. This time, though, I find myself staring. One, two, three songs go by, and I still can’t seem to take my eyes off her.

She’s gorgeous, to say the least. Dark hair flows down her back, skin as pale as snow, full lips as red as a rose, and big, hazel eyes. But her beauty isn’t the only thing that captures my attention. It’s the pain hidden in her eyes, masked beneath her strength.

Her attention is fixed on the throng of dancing people, and she looks as uninterested as I felt until I laid eyes on her. She keeps her distance, too, probably because of her Grim Angel ability to see death with a touch.

I know I should stay away. Let her be. I’ll be breaking a lot of rules if I interfere with her life, but I find myself moving in her direction, drawn to her.

When I reach her, I whisper the first thing that comes to mind. “God, it’s like mating season in here.”

She shudders from the feel of my breath and stumbles forward, stomping on the toe of my boot. As she regains her balance, her gaze whips in my direction and slowly travels from my boots to my shirt then finally rests on my eyes. She swallows hard as our gazes lock, and I realize she is afraid of something.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to frighten you,” I apologize quickly.

She shivers again then clears her throat. “Sorry about your shoes.” She starts to back away nervously. “Crowded rooms just make me a little uneasy.”

I chuckle, crunching the empty cup in my hand and chucking it into a nearby trashcan. “I know what you mean. All this”—I gesture at the people dry humping one another—“is an excuse for the opposite sex to rub up on one another.”

“That’s a pretty good observation.” She almost smiles, and I feel like I won the lottery or something.

Pressing my lips together, I inch closer and lean over her shoulder. She stiffens from my nearness, probably worried I’ll touch her and force her to see my death. I won’t put her through that, though, so I make sure to leave a sliver of space between us.

“Take those two for instance.” I point at a girl with pink hair dancing with a gangly guy. He moves with a huge lack of coordination, while the girl is graceful, looking bored as hell. “I think they’ve got their own mating ritual going on. Although, I think it might be a one-sided mating ritual.”

She tracks where I’m looking. “I think you’re right.” She turns to me, and for a moment, the pain in her eyes vanishes and pure lust flashes, instead. “It looks like she’s bored.”

My heart thuds deafeningly inside my chest from the look of desire in her eyes directed at me. “Is she a friend of yours?”

She nods, biting her lip contemplatively. “Her name’s Raven.”

I cock my pierced brow. “Like the poem?”

“You know Edgar Allan Poe?” He face lights up with excitement.

Jackpot. The girl has it bad for the dead poet, who I vaguely remember meeting two centuries ago.

“A little bit.” I stare at her beauty, trying to figure out what to do next. I know what my body wants to do with her, and my mind seems to be veering toward the same thing. Regardless, I’d be in a shitload of trouble for touching her. Fuck, even this conversation is going to get me into trouble.

“What’s your name?” I ask, trying to act as normal as I can.

“Ember.” She scoots forward, holding her breath as a girl stumbles by, having a drunken conversation with the air.

“Ember … I like it.” I dare a step or two closer and breathe in the faint scent of her—roses with a hint of lilies. “ ‘And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor,’ ” I quote the one line I can remember from Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven.”

“I thought you said you knew a little?” she asks me, impressed.

I shrug, stuffing my hands into my pockets. “What can I say? I’m fascinated with the idea … love, death, and the insanity it brings.”

She grows uncomfortable with my mention of death, and her eyes anxiously sweep the crowd as if she’s seeking an escape. I can’t have her leave just yet. I need to keep her here a little longer. I don’t want her to go.

Excerpt“And don’t ever forget that, my friend.” I remove the dipstick, glance at the oil level, then put the stick back in. Wiping my hand off with a rag, I step back from the car. “It looks like it might—” My back bumps into Ayden.
He hardly ever instigates contact first, expect on rare, amazing, wonder-filled occasions, so I allow myself to enjoy the earth-shattering moment and breathe in the feel of his body heat.
I smile stupidly when he doesn’t move away. “Whatcha doing?”
“Nothing.” His voice is uneven, revealing his nerves. “I was just…” He releases a breath then places his hands on my hips. Surprisingly, his fingers are steady. “I just wanted to touch you.” He rests his forehead against the back of my head and inhales deeply. “And to make sure you’re okay.”
“Okay about what?” My eyelids drift shut as I lean into his touch.
His simple touches are better than light.
They awaken my body and bring it to life.
More. More. More, my body is craving.
The addiction is potent, consuming, aching.
Leaves my body wanting, pleading, shaking.
Sometimes I feel like I’m withering, fading.
Fading. Fading. Fading.
Into him.
“About … about what happened the other day … when I sleepwalked.” His fingers grasp onto me, and his chest crashes against my back as his shallow breaths turn ragged. “I know I probably freaked you out. I’ve been meaning to ask you about it, but I didn’t want to upset you, so I decide to wait until stuff cooled off.”
“I’m not upset about what happened.” And not surprised one little bit that my theory about him was right. I turn around and loop my arms around him. “I’m just worried about you and how you’re handling it.”
“I’m fine,” he swears, searching my eyes for my true feelings. He forgets, though, that I’m like an open book.

Michel’s Review

Awakening You is the third book in the Unraveling You series.  This is a mature YA / New Adult series that is intwined with mystery and romance.

Ayden is finally starting to settle into his new life.  He loves his new family and he loves Lyric.  They are easing into a new kind of relationship.  They are falling in love.  The one thing that bothers Ayden is his issues with intimacy and being touched.  He can touch others but still has problems with others touching him.  He is hoping that his therapy will help him overcome these issues.  He wants to have a healthy and loving relationship with Lyric.  She is the reason his heart beats.

His hypnotic therapy is another issue.  He is remembering bits and pieces of his past but when it comes to seeing actual faces, the memories have not surfaced.  The therapy sessions are elevating his levels of stress and anxiety.

The pressure is on.  His sister has been kidnapped and the clock is ticking.  The police are pressuring Ayden for more.  His parents and psychologist want him to ease up on his hypnotic sessions.  He wants to try the experimental therapy because he is fearful for his sister’s life.

The group, which is now looking to be an occult, is desperately trying to get Ayden back.  They are leaving ominous notes, following him, and haunting his dreams.  The terror and danger has escalated.  Both the police and his parents are fearful for his life.

Ayden can’t move forward until he can remember his past.  His past may not let him move forward.  Cliffhanger……

This book really escalated the terror and suspense that is looming over Ayden’s life.  It also gave the reader visions of his captors and the torture he endured.  It also moved his relationship with Lyric forward into a full blown romantic relationship.

Jessica Sorensen is doing an excellent job with this series.  I am dying to get my hands on the next book.  Inspiring You is the fourth book in the series.  Release date and cover will be revealed soon.

The Unraveling Series is a testament to the steadfast love both of these couples have found.  The Unraveling Series features their children.  Their children are coming of age and paving the road their own lives.  The guidance and wisdom their parents are giving them has made these children remarkable young people.

Each book in the Unraveling Series is novella length.  Each book packs a solid punch and moves the series forward at a fast pace.  The interweaving of romance and mystery builds the story into a solid and fluid series.  The cliffhangers at the end do not leave the reader feeling cheated, it leaves them wanting more.

Lyric is Ella & Micha’s daughter.  She is smart, talented, and compassionate.  She is the best of both her parents.  She is a ray of sunshine.  She is a “glass half full” kind of girl.  She loves fiercely.  She takes the world on full throttle.

Ayden is Lila & Ethan’s adoptive son.  They have adopted all four of their children.  These children were not adopted as babies, they were adopted when they were older.  They are former troubled foster children that were basically unadoptable.  Lila and Ethan wanted to give these children a chance at a happy life, they wanted to give these children the love and respect they deserved.  Ayden was was close to sixteen when Lila and Ethan adopted him.  He has come from a horrific background.  He and his siblings were kidnapped, abused, and tortured.  The experiences he had were so horrific, that when finally freed, he developed amnesia.  His anxiety levels are high.  It was very hard to accept his good fortune of being adopted by such a loving family.  The one person who helped open his heart and trust was Lyric.  Her unconditional friendship and positive attitude have been one of the greatest gifts in his life.  Although he really can’t put the past behind him even though he can’t remember it, he can finally move forward and embrace the good life he has been miraculously given.

unraveling YouIn Unraveling You the reader gets an introduction to the characters.  They also get to experience the strong friendship that builds between Lyric and Ayden.  They get a picture of the dynamics of both families and their relationship to one another.

The book starts out when both Ayden and Lyric are just becoming independent of their parents.  They are learning to drive and dictating their own social calendars. The deep friendship that they form becomes as natural as breathing air.  Lyric is open and breezy, Ayden is reluctant and a bit withdrawn.  He is haunted by the scars of his past.  Although he cannot remember all of it, his body scars are living proof of the horrors he survived.

Life seems to be going on an even keel when Ayden’s past comes back in full force.  The police have found his older brother murdered.  They want Ayden to help with the case.  Even though Ayden cannot remember his past, the police want him to engage in some experimental therapy to kick start his memory and help with the case.

This book ends on a cliffhanger…..

raveling youRaveling You picks up where Unraveling You left off.  Ayden has begun hypnotic therapy.  He desperately wants to help the police solve the murder of his eighteen year old brother. They have also found out that his younger sister has been kidnapped from her foster home.  He is under pressure to regain his memories.

Meanwhile his relationship with Lyric is moving into something more than friendship.  He is falling for her.  She is returning his feelings.  But his past is still a real problem beyond his memories.  He has serious issues with being touched.  He still has problems communicating his feelings.

Lyric and Ayden will grow into adulthood with a beauty that is all their own.  They express themselves through music and lyrics.  They give each other the right amount of comfort and the right amount of excitement.  But is it enough with Ayden’s past knocking on their doors.

The mystery of Ayden’s past begins to surface bits and pieces at a time.  While he is making some strides in his therapy it is not enough.

It is beginning to appear that his past wants him back.  Threats begin to surface.  Odd people begin appearing in weird places.  It looks like he is the next target.

Cliffhanger…….

Synopsis

Emery
No matter how hard I try, I never seem to be able to escape my family’s world. Their madness controls my life, just like insanity consumes my mind.
Sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s real.
Sometimes it’s hard to tell who I really am. The person everyone sees? Or the one I keep trapped inside?
I wonder which person Ryler sees. Just like I wonder who I can trust.
Wonder. Wonder. Wonder.
I wonder too much.
I wish I could just find a way to escape it all and finally be free.

Ryler
I live a double life and sometimes I hate myself for it. Watching Emery fall apart—pretending I don’t care—is killing me inside.
I want to tell her the truth, but I also want a new life.
Want. Want. Want.
I want too much. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what I really desire.
I wish I could be free from the confusion, free from this life.

“If you want to dance, dance. There’s no judgment at these things, which makes them pretty awesome.”

She smiles, and then threads her fingers through mine. “Okay, let’s dance, then.”

I don’t bother mentioning that dancing can be extremely sexy when done under the right circumstances—circumstances that usually include alcohol and sexual tension.

At first, Emery is cautious, keeping her distance from me as she rocks her hips to the music. I move with her. I’ve never really been into dancing, but I can rock out to a little garage rock any day. The longer the song goes on, the more into it she gets, until she finally spins around and presses her back against my chest. That’s when the two of us decide to start playing a dangerous game of Want But Can’t Have. A very, very dangerous game that is really fucking tortuous to play yet impossible to give up.

Emery starts grinding her hips to the sultry beat of the song. With each movement, her ass brushes against my cock, making me go rock hard. I grip the curves of her hips and my hands unnecessarily slip underneath the bottom of her shirt. My fingers delve into her soft flesh, and I bite back a moan. Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve forgotten just how soft her skin is, how amazing she smells, how incredible she feels against me.

She shivers from my touch and presses closer, rolling her hips and driving my body absolutely mad. She repeats the movement over and over again, until finally, I damn near lose my mind.

Gripping her waist, I spin her around to face me. “I thought you didn’t know how to dance?”

Michel’s Review

The Unbeautiful Series is a spin off from the Violet & Luke books.  It is separate from the Violet & Luke books and can be read without reading the Violet & Luke books.  The Unbeautiful Series has to be read in order.

The Unbeautiful Series is unlike the previous books that Jessica Sorensen has written.  Jessica is known for her dark characters that are struggling with issues from their past that has led to present day problems.  Her books usually focus on the characters dealing with these issues and overcoming them to the best of their abilities.  The Unbeautiful series does have a taste of this but also adds something more.  It adds mystery, intrigue, and suspense.  The focus is on two characters equally struggling with their past and present.  Their life situations put them in very real danger for different reasons.  Both of their reasons are life threatening.  The one thing that they have in common is the enemy.

The Unbeautiful Series will keep you glued to the pages.  It will keep you wrapped up in the mystery that unfolds.  It will have you biting your nails, hoping that Ryler and Emery make it out alive and  have a chance of a normal happy life.

The Unbeautiful Series will not disappoint.

————————————————————————————-

unbeautifulIn the first book, Unbeautiful, the reader gets an introduction to the characters.  Ryler was introduced in the Violet & Luke books.  Ryler is Luke’s cousin from Las Vegas.  Ryler was brought up in foster homes his entire life.  His father was a shady professional gambler that couldn’t be bothered with raising a child.  Ryler was abandoned until he turned eighteen and could be a useful asset to his father’s shady dealings.

While living in the foster homes throughout his childhood, Ryler experienced abuse, violence, neglect, and rejection.  He became a juvenile delinquent. At age sixteen he landed in some very serious trouble with the law for aggravated assault.  He was protecting another foster kid from abuse.  In the alteration he was seriously injured and lost his voice.  Once he turned eighteen his father finally decided to claim him and take him under his dirty wings.  This leads to more trouble with the law.  It puts the final mark on Ryler’s criminal record that will destroy his hopes for a future life away from darkness and crime.  After meeting his cousin Luke and his girlfriend Violet, Ryler wants a normal life.  He wants to attend college, make something of himself, and escape the ugly world he has lived in.  His only hope comes from the FBI.  The FBI is willing to relocate Ryler and erase his criminal record.  This opportunity comes with a high price.  Ryler will have to infiltrate the underworld as an informant in Laramie, Idaho.  The FBI has been trying to build a case against known Mafia Kingpin leader, Donny Elderman.  The FBI wants Ryler to infiltrate his network and find the location of the elusive warehouse where Donny’s operations take place.  It is a very dangerous job that could cost Ryler his life.  Is it worth risking his life for a chance at a normal life?

Emery has come to Laramie to attend the university.  It took a miracle to convince her parents to allow her to leave home.  She has had a condition of psychosis and hallucinations her entire life.  Her parents have been abusive in horrific ways using her psychosis as the reason.  She has had to hide her condition beneath the facade of perfection all of her life.  She has had to become a person that doesn’t really exist.  Her parents have plotted and planned her entire existence .  She is forced to be the perfect girl.  She is forced to date the perfect boy.  She is forced to live the perfect life.  It is expected of her to marry the perfect boy and become the perfect wife.  She does not want this even if it means going completely insane.  She wants to have control of her life.

Her parents have been hiding many secrets.  She is forced to hide them as well.  When she finally is able to convince them to allow her to attend the university it is with conditions.  They are still controlling her life from afar.  She is willing to concede to these conditions in order to escape her life.  She figures she can take control one moment at a time.  What she doesn’t realize is that they are still watching.  She is also in danger because she rebelled against them.

When she meets the mysterious boy that lives in her apartment building, she is hopeful of starting a normal life with normal friends.  She is intrigued with Ryler.

Just as it looks like both are heading towards friendship and possibly more, their lives will spiral out of control.  Ryler’s job with the FBI will escalate into a dangerous situation.  He will become part of the underworld.  His new boss will force him to do things he would never do.  To make matters worse, his new boss is Emery’s father.

Emery will start getting threatening letters.  Strange and dangerous things will start happening to her.  Her parents know all about these things before she has a chance to tell them.  The one person she has come to trust is now working for her father.  Ryler has been assigned to protect her.  To make matters worse, her perfect boyfriend, who is not so perfect, has showed up on the scene.

Life is spiraling out of control.  Who can Emery trust?  She no longer feels safe with Ryler even though he still stirs desires within her.

This book has so many things happening.  There are two storylines that spin a web of deceit and danger.  By the end of the book these two storylines begin to merge together and becomes a dark mystery with danger hanging over them all.

—————————————————————————————–

untamedUntamed is the conclusion in the Unbeautiful series.  It cannot be read as a stand alone novel.

The danger has escalated.  Ryler is in deep with Donny Elderman’s crew.  He has been taken under Doc’s (Emery’s father) wing and is being molded into his soldier.  Doc is exposing Ryler to more and more of the operations.  At the same time he is forcing Ryler to keep Emery in line.

Not only is Ryler frightened for his own life, he is also frightened for Emery’s life as well.  Things are not adding up.  Other informants are disappearing.  The FBI is forcing Ryler to participate in the underground world until he can find the location of the warehouse.  Ryler fears that his cover is being blown and that he is going to end up in a shallow grave.

The threats against Emery are escalating.  It has become clear that her nice boyfriend, the one she is forced to date, is abusive.  She has begun to have hallucinations again.  Her parents are threatening to take her home. Her secrets are starting to surface. She is frightened and has no one to trust.  The one person she thought she could trust works for her father.  But at the same time, Ryler seems different than the men that have worked for her father.  He seems to care about how she feels and what she wants.

The life threatening situations escalate into dark danger.  So many REVELATIONS come into play.  The suspense and danger comes from many directions.  The REVELATIONS are shocking.  It has readers fearing for both Ryler and Emery’s life.  They are just pawns in the overall game.

It will be up to Ryler and Emery to figure out how to survive.  The world of good and evil is colliding and they are stuck in the middle.  The only thing that is pure and abundantly clear is their feelings for each other.  Can they both survive and find the normal kind of life they both desperately crave?

Untamed does not end on a cliffhanger.  Reader’s will be very satisfied with the outcome.  Ryler and Emery will find their “normal”.

I highly recommend the Unbeautiful Series.  It is intense, frightening, emotional, and has a pure romance that will make your heart race.

Jessica Sorensen went beyond her excellent writing standards and delivered a powerful story.

“Close your eyes, Ayden,” he begins with a droning tone. “You’re in a safe place, where no one can hurt you. Now let your mind relax.”
Like always, I fleetingly feel like I’m falling.
Down.
Down.
Down.
Then I crash into a wall.
You can’t think about it.
You aren’t allowed.
There was a reason.
For your amnesia.
You think we’d let you off that easy.
You think we’d really let you go.
Don’t think too much.
Or you’re going to lose control.
We’re going to come after you.
Pale eyes… thin bodies…. yellow teeth… blue and red lights flash as sirens near closer to the home. Someone is banging on the door, shouting, “Open up!”
My sister lifts her head, life in her eyes for the first time. My brother is curled up in the corner though, thin, fail, so close to death.
Our capturers flee, but not without an impending warning.
“No one escapes,” the woman whispers as she stabs her fingernails into my hands. “We’ll come back for you.” Her face… blurred… but the pain… is excruciating.
My eyelids spring open to the patch on the ceiling. The room is quiet, but my heart thunders like a storm inside my chest.

“How long have you lived here?” I recline against the railing of the stairway and wrap my arms around myself as the cool air nips at my skin.

He rubs his jawline with one hand while the other spells away, “A couple of months. It’s been an interesting change to go from Sin City to here.”

“Sin City?” Strands of my hair fall into my face as I angle my head to the side in confusion. “What’s that?”

“It’s a nickname for Vegas.”

“Why is it called that?”

A pucker forms at his brows as he brings his finger to his mouth and traces it back and forth across his bottom lip and over his lip ring. I’m absolutely mesmerized by the movement, drawn in by it to the point where I actually contemplate kissing him. I’ve never just planted one on a guy before; Evan was in total control of the relationship.

Ryler moves his hand away from his lip and bites on his lip ring. “Because it’s a city with sins tempting people at every corner—gambling, booze, sex.”

About a year ago, I lost my virginity to Evan, but standing here, watching Ryler sign sex while sucking on his lip ring, makes me feel like a virgin again.

“Oh,” is all I manage to get out of my mouth.

I only breathe normally again when he releases the metal from his teeth and drops his cigarette to the ground.

“So, about the party.” He gestures at the door. “Do you want to come in for a while? They’re playing cards and there are drinks and snacks and stuff. Plus, your papers are in there.” His lips quirk to a half grin and my stomach somersaults.

Do I want to come in?

Boy, do I want.

A lot.

Even through the fear, I want to go through that door.

More than I’ve ever wanted to do anything in my entire life.

In the back of my mind, I hear the voices of my mother, father, and Evan whispering that what I’m about to do is wrong. I’m not being who I’m supposed to be. I’m being all wrong, imperfect. I’m surrounding myself with unbeautiful people, according to their standards.

I smile the biggest smile that’s ever graced my lips, even though I’m terrified out of my mind. “A party sounds fun. I’ve never actually been to one.”

“You seriously are sheltered, Emery.” He reaches for the doorknob but pauses. “I can help you change that.” He winks at me.

The disapproving voices in my head continue to chant as I follow him inside and into the unknown. But the music swallows them up as soon as I step over the threshold. Everything in my mind quiets the moment I step into the room. Everything is still for the first time in my life without taking the medication.

A slow breath eases from his lips as his gaze collides with mine. “Sorry. I’m being a downer, aren’t I?” He leans toward me, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. “That isn’t fair to you after you flew across the country to see me.”

“Micha, you should know by now”—I press my lips together, trying not to laugh as I prepare to quote a line from one of his songs—“that I would travel to hell and back just to be with you.”

“Ha, ha,” he says playfully, sticking out his tongue. “You wound my heart, Ella May. I wrote those lyrics for you and you mock me with them.”

“I’m not mocking, just having fun—”

He cuts me off as he nips at my bottom lip, eliciting a soul-bearing groan from me. He slowly starts unbuttoning my shirt, picking up the pace the farther down he gets until he finally becomes so impatient he rips the fabric off.

“I miss your kisses the most.” I willingly lean against the piano as he unfastens my bra and urges me back.

He quickly stands up to tug his shirt over his head and then places an arm on each side of me as his body hovers over mine. “I miss everything the most,” he says before he kisses me. “All the fucking time. I swear to God, I need to see you more.”

My legs fasten around his waist as the ivory keys dig into my flesh. My fingers trace the outlines of his muscular stomach, the inscription of his tattoos, feeling his heart slamming erratically against his chest.

Excitement bursts to the surface when he pushes back to undo the button on my jeans.

“Micha, wait.” I pant. “Are we really going to do this?”

“Do what?” He teases me with a cock of his brow as he gradually unzips my jeans.

I kick off my shoes while I gasp for air. “Have sex on a piano.”

He pulls my jeans and panties off, his passionate gaze skimming every inch of my flesh, stifling my eager body with overpowering heat.

“You sound so excited about the idea,” he says as I reach for the top of his pants and unflick the button.

“I’ll take it wherever I can get it.” I sit up and yank his jeans down. “Besides, we can add it to our growing list of strange places we’ve had sex. I think this one might earn the number three spot, right below backstage at a concert, wrapped in the curtain.”

Instead of smiling, his happiness falters. “I promise I’m going to find a way to change all this, pretty girl. You deserve so much better than this.”
