Synopsis

Cade Hall has always been the golden boy of the gridiron. Because of his talent at football, coupled with his father’s wealth, he’s always gotten his way. But when a night of drunken debauchery lands him in hot water with the college athletic board, neither his influential father nor his charming grin can save him. He finds it a total buzz kill when he is sentenced to community service with troubled youth at an inner-city shelter. But his nightmare is only beginning when his greatest high school regret is the very one in charge of the program, and she has him by the balls in more ways than one.

For Avery Prescott, senior year was a nightmare of epic proportions, and Cade Hall played the lead villain. After she fled her small town for college in the bright lights of Atlanta, she thought she had escaped the painful memories of her past. She never could have imagined Cade would waltz through the door of the outreach program she presided over. But Avery has news for Cade–she isn’t the same shy, doormat of a girl she was in high school. Since she holds Cade’s football future in her hands, she’s more than ready to make payback a real bitch.

Will the two stay in the defensive zone or discover that sometimes life’s greatest lessons are learned the hard way?

Fuuuuuuuuuck! This seriously was not happening. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse, apparently the universe didn’t just hate me. It fucking despised me. Not only was I stuck working forty hours a week at this shithole, but now I had the worst blast from my past standing before me. Avery Fucking Prescott.

In every “manwhore with seemingly no soul’s” world, there is one girl he regrets. One girl he thinks about from time to time. One girl he measures all the other ones against. One girl he even cries about when he’s shitfaced.

Mine was Avery Fucking Prescott.

I couldn’t help noticing that the Avery standing in front of me didn’t seem the same. Sure, she still had the same long, dark hair that she swept back in one of those ponytail things. Gone were the glasses, which made it a lot easier to see her green eyes that had flecks of gold in them. Of course, today there was pure and unadulterated hate burning in them directed at me where back in the day, there had been love.

But I had managed to kill that love by being a prick. Yeah, I’m sure you’re thinking that isn’t all too shocking based on the pure stupidity you’ve seen me exhibit so far. The thing is that Avery brought out the good that was buried deep down inside me. The good that you needed a fucking bulldozer to unearth.

While there were slight differences in her appearance, her entire personality seemed different, and no, I don’t mean just about how she hated me with a fiery passion. She wasn’t the wide-eyed, innocent farm girl who seemed so out of place at Harlington Prep. It was like she’d had a personality transplant. It reminded of me of what happened to my older sister, Catherine, the summer she turned fifteen, and my mother sent her off to some glamour school shit to detox the awkward out of her. When she came back a month later, it was like she had become a Stepford Kid. Catherine no longer took the time to play with me. She had “more important” things to do like contouring her brows or preparing for cotillions. Things were never the same between us after that.

My ego couldn’t help wondering if what had happened between us had caused the seismic shift in Avery. Like I’d broken the Old Avery with my actions, and this was what had been rebuilt in its place. But another voice rationalized that unlike me, Avery had probably gotten her shit together in the last three years. College had matured her.

After a few moments of a silent standoff, Avery said, “Hello again, Cade.” Her words might have been polite, but her voice was strained. I could tell it was taking everything within her not to go off on me.

“Oh, you two know each other?” Tammy or Theresa, or whatever the hell her name was, questioned.

Do we know each other? Oh yeah, we know each other. Like in the biblical sense. I can even tell you about the heart-shaped birthmark on the inside of her right thigh.

But I knew I would mortify the hell out of Avery if I said anything like that in front of her boss. So instead, I cocked my brows at Avery for her to take the lead on how she wanted us to respond to that question.

“A little. We went to high school together,” she replied diplomatically. The wounded look that momentarily flashed in her eyes told an entirely different story—the story where I played the villain.

But Tammy didn’t seem to pick up on it. “Well, isn’t it a small world?” she mused.

“Yeah,” Avery and I said in unison.

Tammy smiled at me. “I was just about to sing all of Avery’s praises to you, but since you know her, I don’t need to waste my breath, right?”

“Right,” I muttered.

“Well, then. I’ll leave you two alone to catch up, and for Avery to show you the ropes.”

“Thank you, Tamar,” Avery said politely.

Oh it was Tamar. Shit, I needed to remember that. “Yeah, thanks, Tamar.”

Tamar started out of the door and then stopped. She threw a grin over her shoulder. “Now, Avery, just because you know Cade, you can’t go easy on him. He has a debt to pay to Georgia Tech’s athletic department.”

Avery glared at me before flashing a fake smile at Tamar. “Oh, I promise to make him earn his keep.”

Apparently Tamar wasn’t picking up on the heavy tension between us. “Unfuckingbeliveable,” I muttered under my breath.

“Excuse me?” Avery demanded.

I held up my hands. “Nothing.”

Avery crossed her arms over her chest. “I never thought I’d have to see you again.” She shook her head at me, which caused her ponytail to swish back and forth like a whip. “Yet here you are standing before me. I guess, I must’ve done something epic to piss the universe off this much to put you back in my path.”

Whoa, that was sure as hell not what I was expecting. “I could say the same.”

Her green eyes narrowed to fury-filled slits. “Excuse me? You have some nerve to stand here in front of me and say that considering what you did.”

She was right. Only an epic tool would not immediately apologize for what I did to her. It should have been the first words out of my mouth. And not just to make things run smoothly here at The Ark, but because it was the right thing to do. After all, she had truly been an innocent in the whole fucked up situation of me being an emotionally crippled bastard. I’d let her be tortured by a psychotic chick who thought she belonged to me. I’d humiliated her with my deceptive words and cruel actions. But the greatest of my crimes was I had broken her heart.

But in this instance, I was being King Epic Tool because I couldn’t get those words to come out of my mouth. It wasn’t something I struggled with today. I’d had three years to stay those two words. Hell, I’d started off a hundred texts, but I’d never sent them. I’d even done a few stalkerish drives by her house to say how sorry I was in person, but being an emotional pansy ass, I had never gotten out of the car.

So instead of taking the emotional high road, I went slumming. “It’s been three years, Prescott. You really need to get over that.”

Synopsis

Katie Ashley, the New York Times bestselling author of Redemption Road and Vicious Cycle, returns to the dangerous and seductive world of the Hells Raiders motorcycle club….

After her father was murdered in the line of duty, ATF agent Samantha Vargas is determined to take down the scumbags of the drug trade. When her partner takes on a case to infiltrate the Hells Raiders MC, Samantha agrees to go undercover as his old lady but is surprised to find herself drawn to the very man she is investigating.

Benjamin “Bishop” Malloy has worked hard to carve a place for himself both in and out of the MC world. Working days as a mechanic, he spends his nights rebuilding motorcycles with the hope of one day owning his own shop. After taking one of the club’s new hang-arounds under his wing, Bishop is conflicted over his growing attraction for the man’s girlfriend.

Even though she’s determined to bring down the Raiders, Samantha discovers their world isn’t as black-and-white as she thought. And as the stakes grow higher, she’s in danger of losing more than her heart.

I rose off the picnic bench. As I set my longneck down, I could feel Bishop’s eyes burning into my back. When I glanced at him over my shoulder, his eyebrows rose questioningly. Slowly, I turned around. As I met his blazing baby blues, I held out my hand. His body shuddered slightly before he leaned up to put his hand in mine. I tugged him up off the bench, pulling him close to me.

His warm breath against my cheek, causing me to shiver with building anticipation. “What are you doing, Sam?”

Without a moment’s hesitation, I replied, “Getting you to take me somewhere we can be alone.”

He pulled back to look at me. Both longing and regret flickered on his handsome face. “You gotta know that nothing good is gonna come with me being alone with you right now.”

“I know.”

“And you’re okay with that?”

It was the same question raging through my mind. Did I want to fuck Bishop to get in even deeper with him because of the case or was it because I was starting to feel more for him than I should? In the end, I tuned out the voices in my head. “Yeah, I am,” I responded, my voice resonating with certainty.

With a brief nod, Bishop tugged on my hand and started leading me away from the others. We went around the back of the clubhouse and then passed the pawnshop. As we continued walking, the lights grew dimmer and dimmer until we found ourselves in shadowy darkness. Bishop stopped us in front a tall chain-link fence that ran the length of the property.

After gazing around, I swallowed hard. I’d never had sex out in the open before, and I could feel my once firm resolve slowly fading. “Here?”

“It’s really the only place we can be alone with all the brothers being in from out of town. I gave up my room in the clubhouse.” A lustful gleam burned in Bishop’s eyes as he pulled me against him. I could feel the hardened length of him through his jeans. “But if you want, I’ll put you on the back of my bike and take you anywhere you want to go.”

Deep down, I knew it was right here and right now, or I was going to lose both my nerve and my buzz.I brought my arms up to wrap around his neck. “I just want to be with you.” I drew his head down to where our lips were almost touching. We stayed like that for a few seconds, both of our chests heaving and our bodies trembling. This was our figurative cliff, and we were just inches from free-falling off it. Before we could think any more about it, Bishop crushed his lips against mine.

For such a hardened, tough guy, his lips were so very smooth. They felt as soft as velvet as they moved against mine. I tightened my arms around his neck, drawing him as close to me as I could. My breasts strained against the bulging muscles of his chest.

I couldn’t seem to get close enough to him. I had to fight the urge to jump up and wrap my legs around his waist and grind myself against him. As his warm tongue entered my mouth, I moaned. He proved within seconds he was one hell of a kisser. He was also one for multitasking, because as his tongue caressed mine, his hand palmed my breast through the fabric of my dress. My nipple pebbled under his fingertips, and I gasped when he pinched it between his thumb and forefinger. While one hand continued to knead my breast, the other dipped below the hem of my dress. I sucked in a breath when it skimmed against my thigh before journeying farther upward. It had been too damn long since a man had touched me, and as Bishop’s hand cupped me, my head fell back, banging against the fence.

“Fucking hell. You’re drenched,” Bishop said in a ragged voice.

“I know,” I groaned. Gazing up at him, I said, “Please, don’t stop touching me.”

“Hmm, I like the sound of you begging.” His fingers began to work me over my panties, but I wanted more. I wantonly kicked my legs apart, spreading them as far as I could for him. Bishop read my mind by jerking my panties to the side and thrusting two fingers deep inside me.

“Oh yes!” I cried, moving my hips against his hand. At that point, I didn’t give two shits if anyone at the party could see or hear us. I just wanted to come.

Michel’s Review

Last Mile by Katie Ashley is the third book in the Vicious Cycle series that features the Malloy Brothers and the Hells Raiders MC.  The Hells Raiders have been through the wringer with the Mexican Cartel, the authorities, and the rival MC’s.  It’s time to go legitimate and leave the illegal activities to the other chapters.  The Georgia chapter of the Hells Raiders has lost too much.  The Malloy family has grown and they have children to protect.

Bishop Malloy is all for going legit.  He has big dreams of building his own Bike shop.  He’s ready to go a different path in life.  First the club needs to have clearance from the other chapters and national leaders.

The ATF has been trying to infiltrate the Hells Raiders MC.  After they get word that the Georgia chapter has been dealing with the Mexican Cartel and running guns, they are ready to make their move.  They plant two ATF agents posing as a couple into the club as hang arounds.  Samantha and Marley are going to become part of the Hells Raiders world.

Samantha hates bikers after witnessing her father’s death as a child.  She is more than willing to take as many down as possible.  Her memories and perceptions are nothing like what she encounters at the Hells Raiders clubhouse.  When she meets Bishop Malloy her attitude towards bikers begins to change.  She’s beginning to see that there is more to a biker than the patch he wears on his vest.

After the violence at the national rally things begin to change for the club.  They pissed off some of the other chapters and have paid the price.  They lost some of their own and now they are at war within their own club.

Bishop and Samantha are beginning a beautiful friendship after sharing their grief.  Samantha is still keeping secrets.  Bishop is falling hard.  Their relationship is doomed.

I was glued to the pages and thrilled with the outcome of Bishop Malloy’s journey to finding love.  Read the Vicious Cycle series by Katie Ashley.

Michel’s Review

Drop Dead Sexy by Katie Ashley is a fun romantic suspense novel that will have the readers sitting on the edge of their seats while laughing their butts off.  It’s a who done it story in a backwoods southern small town.  The sexy GBI agent, Catcher Mains and coroner/ mortician, Olivia Sullivan are on the case.  Solving the mystery of pharmacist Randall “Randy” Dickinson’s life and murder is going to keep them pretty busy, as well as trying to keep their clothes on and hands off each other.  Who said one night stands were only for one night?

Olivia has been down on her luck in the love and sex department.  When she finally decides to jump on the horse and take a ride again, she meets the best stud in the stable. She meets Catcher Mains, a man that is drop dead sexy.  After a memorable one night stand, Olivia takes the walk of shame back to her small town with memories of a scorching night.  When her small town gets their first murder case, she would of never dreamed that GBI agent, Catcher Mains would be assigned to the case.  He’s determined to make her part of the investigation.  He’s determined to get in her panties again.

The case is full of surprises.  Randy had a lot of secrets.  He was not your average small town pharmacist that sang in the church choir.  His connections lead them to a nudist colony ( oops…I mean nudist resort), a snake charming evangelist, a hoodoo witch, and the dixie mafia.  In between the investigation, Catcher and Olivia are doing their own private investigating of each other.

Olivia’s grandmother and mother are picking out the china patterns.  Olivia’s losing the cobwebs. Catcher is clearing Olivia’s cobwebs and weaving a web of his own.

I absolutely loved this book.  It was fun and full of suspense.  Katy nailed the small town Georgia mentality and atmosphere.  I live near the area where the story takes place, I can throw a rock out my back door and it would land in Elijay.  She nailed it and gave this story an authentic feel.

I highly recommend Drop Dead Sexy by Katie Ashley!

Excerpt

As I entered the door, I took a deep breath to try and still my out-of-control nerves. Smoke hung heavy in the air, stinging my eyes and causing me to cough. Several men in leather biker cuts lounged on stools at the bar, nursing beers. Across from me, a heated pool game was taking place.

I took a few steps inside and then froze. “Are you lost, darlin’?” a big busted woman in a halter top asked.

“Uh…I’m looking for David Malloy,” I said.

Two men at the pool table whirled around. The shorter of the two, a tough but cute looking blond, cocked his head curiously at me. But then the moment my gaze locked on the other man, I knew he was Willow’s father. They had the same dark hair, soulful dark eyes, and heart-shaped face. David, however, had dark scruff covering his face. Although he was Rev’s brother, I didn’t see any resemblance between the two. Although he was shorter and slightly less built, David was just as good-looking as Rev. “Mr. Malloy?” I questioned, as I closed the distance between us.

He tossed the pool stick on the table. Taking a long drag on his cigarette, he then stubbed it out in an ashtray on the table. “What do you want?” he demanded.

Without even glancing around the room, I knew that every eye in the place was on us. “I really need to speak with you for a moment.”

His dark eyes narrowed as they raked over my body. Then the next thing I knew, he leapt at me, knocking me back into the wall. One of his hands came to grip my throat while his body pinned me in place. Fear like I had never known overwhelmed me, sending my heartbeat drumming wildly in my ears. It was so loud it felt like a cannon blast going off around me. “Please,” I murmured.

David glared at me as his thumb pressed harder into my throat. “They’re really falling down on their job at the academy.”

“E-Excuse m-me?” I stammered.

With a smirk, he replied, “Don’t they train you ATF bitches to hide your fear a little better? I mean, you’re practically pissing your pants right now, not to mention your heart is beating ninety to nothing.”

I shook my head slowly back and forth as I tried processing his words. “ATF? I don’t understand.”

He rolled his eyes. “A white-bred piece of ass comes waltzing into my clubhouse wanting to talk to me alone. It doesn’t take a fucking genius to realize you’re a Fed.”

A Fed? It took me a moment to process what he meant. Holy shit, he thought I worked for the government as an agent of some sort. Quickly, I replied, “No, I’m not.”

A voice came from him. “Deacon, man, you’re gonna get your ass jacked up even further for this.”

Glancing over his shoulder, Deacon said to the young, blond haired man, “Stay out of this, Bishop.”

Bishop held up his hands. “Fine. It’s your fucking funeral.”

David’s hand slid down my throat to the buttons on my dress. Glancing over his shoulder at the others, he questioned, “What do you bet she’s wired up under her tits?”

When his hands started to rip open my dress, I couldn’t hold back my scream. “No, stop! I’m not who you think I am. I swear!” I protested.

“Then just who the hell are you?” he demanded.

Before I could answer, a tiny voice came from behind us. “Miss Alex?”

The sound of Willow’s voice caused David to release his hold on my dress, but his body still kept me pinned to the wall. At that same moment, Rev entered the clubhouse. When he saw me, his eyes bulged, and he broke into a run to reach us. Grabbing David’s shoulders, he slung him away from me. “For fuck’s sake, Deacon, what the hell are you doing?”

“I’m giving this undercover ATF bitch what she deserves,” Deacon spat, taking a step back toward me.

“Christ, she’s not ATF,” Rev countered.

“Oh, then who the hell is she?”

“She’s my teacher…and my friend,” Willow answered in a small voice.

Michel’s Review

Vicious Cycle is the first book in the new biker series by Katie Ashley.

Vicious Cycle is fresh and quite a bit different from the run of the mill biker books.  This series incorporates family dynamics, southern heritage, the MC world, and a bit of religion.  With all of these elements one would think that it’s a tad too much but I must say it is not. The entire story works.  The reader quickly becomes connected to the characters and embraces them whole heartedly.

Vicious Cycle starts out from a little five year girl’s POV.  This little girl, Willow, draws the reader into the story and quickly establishes the dark elements in her world.  When she is taken to her unknown father it takes the reader into the world of the Hells Raiders MC and gets to the grit of the story.

David “Deacon” Malloy is the Sergeant In Arms for the Hells Raiders.  He was raised in the Hells Raiders MC since he was adopted in his young teenage years.  Although he and his brothers have been raised in an outlaw environment they have also been raised in a family environment.  When he finds out he has a daughter he is at a loss.  He doesn’t know what to do with a child or how to raise one.  One thing is for certain, this precious little girl has captured his heart.  When he finds out about the violent circumstances that led to Willow being dropped at the door, he will do anything to protect her.  His old enemies now know he has something precious to lose.

When the threats from their rival club, the Nordic Knights, and their number one enemy Sigal escalate, it is time to take some protective actions.  One is to keep Willow in lock down at the club’s compound.  When her kindergarten teacher shows up at the compound wanting to know why Willow has missed so much school, it opens another door the Deacon didn’t know he wanted.

Alexandra Evans has a special place in her heart for Willow.  She loves the bright and intelligent little girl.  When she stops showing up for school she needs to know that Willow is alright.  When she finds out the frightening circumstances behind the absences she offers solutions.  She proposes to become Willow’s home bound teacher.  She never imagined that she would become more than a teacher.  She would become immersed in the Hells Raiders MC world.  She would become their friend.  She would become a part of their family.  She would become the lover to one of the most complicated men she has ever met.  She would become a target.  Her life is on the line all because of a beautiful little girl and her sexy father.  She can handle the danger and threats because in the end the high price is worth.  She will do anything in the name of love.

Katie Ashley wrote a very edgy, suspenseful, gritty biker romance that envelops everything MC romance readers look for in a book.  I quickly became connected to all of the characters.  I embraced the Hells Raiders MC and their mantra.  I loved the romance that developed between Deacon and Alexandra.  Willow captured my heart and I fell in love with this little girl just like all those big bad bikers did.

Excerpt

By the time we reached Brayden’s floor, I was out of breath. While the three flights of stairs had been a bit of an exertion, it was more about the fact that we hadn’t been able to keep our hands off each other. At each landing, we paused to let our mouths crash together, our tongues tangling in a passionate dance. When we finally got to his apartment door, I was in his arms, my legs wrapped around his waist. He grunted as he shifted me to the side, so he could dig his key out.

“Hurry,” I moaned, as I kissed a trail across his jawline to his ear.

“Trying,” he muttered.

Instead of putting the key in, he shoved my back against the door. His free hand delved under my top to grab my breast. “Hmm, yes,” I murmured, as my nipple began to harden under his touch. He began to rub his jean-clad erection against me. It was getting to be too much.

Gripping the back of his T-shirt, I started tugging it off him. Once I had it in my hands, I dropped it to the floor beside us. He followed my lead by stripping off my shirt. He then buried his head in my cleavage, licking the tops of my breasts before moving to put his mouth over my bra covered nipples.

“I want you inside me, Brayden,” I panted.

His hand with the key in it left my waist to unlock the door. When it opened, we fell through, nearly collapsing to the floor. I giggled at our sex-crazed antics as Brayden tossed the key onto the table next to the door. As we started across the room, his fingers dug into my buttocks, kneading my flesh. “I can’t wait until I’m buried inside you, making you come so hard you scream.”

I opened my mouth to say how much I wanted him to do just that when a guy’s voice interrupted me. “Just try to keep it down, will ya? I’m watching a movie.”

At the stranger’s voice, I squealed and gripped Brayden’s shoulders tighter. “Dude, what the fuck are you doing here?” Brayden demanded.

“Uh, last time I checked, I lived here.”

“You said you were going home this weekend to stay with your parents.”

“I said I might.”

Brayden grunted in frustration. “You said you would because you knew Lily was coming this weekend.”

“Oh yeah, I kinda forgot about that.”

“Sorry, baby,” Brayden said, before he gently eased me onto my feet. Considering I was in my bra and jeans, I pivoted around to hide behind Brayden.

“You told me she was a hell of a looker, but you didn’t mention that she was so shy. Of course, she didn’t sound shy when you guys were out in the hallway.”

“Oh God,” I moaned, as mortification filled me.

I heard the guy rise off the couch and start over to us. When I shrank further behind Brayden, he said, “Come on, mi amor, a bra is like a bikini top. Nothing to be ashamed of.”

Slowly, I peeked around Brayden’s shoulder. A tall, dark-haired, dark-eyed guy stood grinning at me, his arms crossed over his broad, bare chest. The only article of clothing he had on was a pair of boxer shorts that hung low on his hips. If I hadn’t been totally in love with Brayden, I would have probably fallen to the floor in a pool of lust for this guy. He was that good-looking. But the thing I liked most about him was his warm smile and the mischievous glint in his eyes.

“Lily, this is my roommate, AJ,” Brayden introduced.

Throwing out his hand, AJ said, “That’s Alejandro Joaquin Resendiz actually. And I’m not just his roommate. I’m the drummer in his new band.”

With a resigned sigh, I stepped around Brayden to shake his hand. “It’s nice to meet you.”

He winked. “Nice meeting you in the flesh. I feel like I already know you because Bray talks about you all the fucking time.” Smacking Brayden’s chest playfully, AJ said, “He’s such a sap!”
