EXCERPT:

Taking a deep breath, Beckett knocked on the door.

No answer.

He turned the knob, and the door opened.

“Go away,” came a strained voice.

Beckett poked his head through the opening. Kat sat in a ball in the corner, her legs pulled up to her chest, her arms hugging herself tight.

“Aw, Jesus, Beckett. Really?” Her face was splotchy and her eyes watery, though he didn’t see any tears.

Ten-to-one she was going through some adrenaline letdown right now, too. Which no doubt made it all worse. That shit could fuck you up even when you were used to how it left you feeling drained and shaky, by how all the stress you’d suppressed during the height of the crisis boomeranged twice over after the fact.

He came into the room, closed the door, and turned the lock for good measure. And then he crossed to Kat, scooped his arms under her knees and behind her back and lifted her up against him.

She smacked his chest. “Put me down.”

“No.” He moved to the edge of the bed.

“I don’t need this right now, Beckett. Put me down.”

“Yes, you do,” he said, sitting on the edge of the mattress. He pulled her face in against his throat and smoothed her hair back from her cheek. She trembled against him, just the littlest bit, her skin hot to the touch. He pressed a kiss to her forehead and hugged her tighter. “You did good, kid.”

Every one of her muscles went tight. Her hand fisted in his shirt. And her breath caught as she buried her face against his neck and shoulder.

Then Kat burst out crying.

And it was like being torn apart and put back together, all at once. He hated her pain, but he adored that she wasn’t hiding herself from him, and that she was letting him be there for her.

He didn’t shush her, or try to talk her down, or encourage her to dry her eyes. To be sure, her tears were like daggers in his heart—they hurt like fucking hell. But the only way she was going to feel better was to let this shit out. Ironic realization for him—he did actually see that. But just because you could see what was good for others didn’t mean you had the first goddamned idea how to apply those principles in your own life. And that was a problem for another time anyway.

What mattered right now was Kat. What mattered … was Kat.

About HARD TO LET GO:

Beckett Murda hates to dwell on the past. But his investigation into the ambush that killed half his Special Forces team and ended his Army career gives him little choice. Just when his team learns how powerful their enemies are, hard-ass Beckett encounters his biggest complication yet—a seductive, feisty Katherine Rixey.

A tough, stubborn prosecutor, Kat visits her brothers’ Hard Ink Tattoo shop following a bad break-up—and finds herself staring down the barrel of a stranger’s gun. Beckett is hard-bodied and sexy as hell, but he’s also the most infuriating man ever. Worse, Kat’s brothers are at war with the criminals her office is investigating. When Kat joins the fight, she lands straight in Beckett’s sights . . . and in his arms. Not to mention their enemies’ crosshairs.

Now Beckett and Kat must set aside their differences to work together, because the only thing sweeter than justice is finding love and never letting go.

MICHEL’S REVIEW

The title for this book is perfect for not only the book but also for the fans of the HARD INK series. It is HARD TO LET GO.

HARD TO LET GO is the final book in this outstanding 5 Star series.  The HARD INK series has kept readers captivated with the riveting suspense, the charismatic characters, and the emotional journeys each character has taken.  This series has had readers laughing, crying, aching, soaring, and learning about love in many different ways.  It has also had a complex plot that has kept the reader on the edge of their seat.  Each book and novella has been building up to this final moment.  Questions are finally answered.  Revelations will finally bring the Hard Ink crew resolution.

This final book features Beckett Murda and Kat Rixey.  These two had a very shaky introduction when Beckett pulled a gun on Kat before realizing who she was.  These two are like oil and vinegar. They don’t really mix but when put together they are the perfect combination.

Kat arrived on the scene after her brother Nick’s place has been bombed.  She is unaware of what is actually going on but is thrust in the middle of it.  She has her own problems and secrets as well.  She has a dangerous ex that caused her to run.

Beckett has never wanted any kind of relationship.  He’s buried deep in his investigation of the ambush that killed half his team.  When he finds out that Kat is investigating the same criminals they begin to butt heads.  Kat’s no nonsense attitude and strength open Beckett’s eyes .  He is finally able to see beyond his tortured past and beyond the investigation.  He is beginning to see a future, a future that includes Kat by his side.  First they will have to finish what they started and survive.

This book was amazing.  The suspense was riveting.  The revelations were shocking.  The romance between Beckett and Kat was moving.  The sexual tension and heat between these two was smoldering.

Laura Kaye once again delivered a phenomenal book.  I’m sad to see the HARD INK series end.  This series went out with a bang that left the readers sad to see the ending but happy the way it ended.

Don’t miss out on HARD TO LET GO by Laura Kaye.

About HARD TO BE GOOD:

Hard Ink Tattoo owner Jeremy Rixey has taken on his brother’s stateside fight against the forces that nearly killed Nick and his Special Forces team a year before. Now, Jeremy’s whole world has been turned upside down—not the least of which by a brilliant, quiet blond man who tempts Jeremy to settle down for the first time ever.

Recent kidnapping victim Charlie Merritt has always been better with computers than people, so when he’s drawn into the SF team’s investigation of his army colonel father’s corruption, he’s surprised to find acceptance and friendship—especially since his father never accepted who Charlie was. Even more surprising is the heated tension Charlie feels with sexy, tattooed Jeremy, Charlie’s opposite in almost every way.

With tragedy and chaos all around them, temptation flashes hot, and Jeremy and Charlie can’t help but wonder why they’re trying so hard to be good…

Shirtless muscular attractive young man model wearing sweatpants

EXCERPT:

“You should be inside celebrating,” Jeremy said, his voice a raw scrape. “You and Marz did an amazing thing this morning.” An hour ago, Marz and Charlie had cracked open a heavily encrypted microchip that contained a wealth of information that not only seemed likely to help the team clear its name, but proved that Charlie’s father hadn’t been dirty, like they’d all thought. “And I’m so happy for you about your dad.”

A wounded darkness passed through Charlie’s gaze, but he finally nodded. “Didn’t feel right without you there.” Pink filtered into his cheeks, and damn if that wasn’t as cute as it was sexy. Jeremy wasn’t sure anything had ever made him blush.

“I’m just not—” Jeremy shrugged and looked down at Charlie’s chest again. Having seen the guy dress more than once, he knew that shirt covered lean muscle that ran from strong shoulders down to his narrow hips. Jeremy fisted his hands against the urge to burrow them under the hem of the tee. After weeks of looking, and wanting, he was dying to touch. Jeremy found Charlie hard to read though, and hadn’t wanted to do anything to scare him off. “—very good company right now. I’m sorry if that—”

Charlie nudged Jeremy’s chin up with his hand, his fingers just barely touching Jer’s stubble-covered skin. But then his thumb landed softly against his lips.

Jeremy’s heartbeat kicked up and his lips fell open. Slowly, oh so tentatively, Charlie stroked the soft pad of his thumb back and forth across them.

“Charlie,” Jeremy whispered as arousal surged through his body, spiking his pulse, tensing his muscles, hardening his dick.

Uncertainty poured off Charlie as the man’s hand trembled where it touched him, but those blue eyes absolutely blazed desire. No way was Jeremy imagining that.

“You’re always good company, to me,” Charlie said in a low voice, his gaze dropping to Jeremy’s lips. Charlie leaned in closer, and closer still, and Jeremy could hardly believe the other man was the one to initiate this. But he was fucking thrilled.

Jeremy swallowed, his lips anticipating that first soft brush. Charlie was so close his shaky breath caressed Jeremy’s lips. His pace was maddening but so damn sexy Jer could barely breathe. And then Charlie’s eyelids fluttered closed and he was right there…

Michel’s Review

Hard To Be Good by Laura Kaye is the one book that the Hard Ink Fans have been dying for.  The build up throughout the series has left the readers wondering when Jeremy and Charlie would get their happily ever after.  This novella gives the readers what they want and so much more.  I am amazed how Laura Kaye can pack so much into a novella.  The emotional depth of this story was phenomenal.  The pacing wasn’t too fast or too slow. The sexual tension and chemistry between Jer and Charlie was sizzling hot.

Although the story didn’t revolve around all the suspense that has been going on at Hard Ink, it did move the overall plot closer to the final revelations.  This book focused more on the relationship between these two strong men.  It showed how even in today’s society it is still hard to find acceptance of gay relationships.  Exposing your deepest feelings and vulnerabilities to your loved ones, family, and friends is hard enough without the added taboo.  Also trying to find your footing in a committed relationship whether straight or gay is very hard.  We all have insecurities about showing our true emotions.  The freedom of letting these emotions out and allowing them to grow is the ultimate surrender.  Jer and Charlie will take the readers on an emotional journey that will not only touch their own hearts but capture the readers as well.

Once again Laura Kaye has written a beautiful love story.

Excerpt:

Marz was playing with fire. He damn well knew he was. But that didn’t make him want to pull away.

He just wanted more of the heat.

Marz nuzzled the side of Emilie’s face with his nose, his lips. She turned her face toward him and offered her lips. He couldn’t refuse.

Capturing her mouth on a tortured groan, Marz poured every ounce of his longing and confusion and desire into the kiss. They grasped at each other and Emilie turned in his arms. He pinned her against the railing and planted his hands in her hair. She opened to him and accepted his tongue, sucking him in until Marz’s blood ran hot and his hard-on ached. He ground himself against her and devoured every little moan and whimper and gasp she spilled.

Trailing kisses from her mouth to her jaw to her ear, Marz dragged a hand down her body and grasped her breast in his palm. She cried out and her head dropped back, drawing his mouth to her neck, where he licked and sucked and nipped as he kneaded her soft flesh. “You are so damn sexy.”

Her hand flew to his hair and grasped the back of his head. “Touch me,” she said. “Don’t stop touching me.”

Marz pulled away long enough to do a three-sixty scan. The lighthouse cast a dark shadow over them, and the pier was otherwise empty. His heart raced and his pulse hammered. He dove back in, trailing kisses down her neck to her collarbone, which he traced with his tongue. Her nails scratched deliciously at his scalp and her grip urged him down.

Through the thin material of her blouse and bra, he mouthed and flicked at her nipple. He shifted the deep vee of the neckline to reveal a lacy royal blue bra. He tongued her through the lace until she was panting and moaning and writhing against the railing.

“Oh, my God,” she rasped as he shifted her shirt and moved to her other breast. This time, he tugged the lace down to bare the deep pink of her nipple. She tasted and smelled like something fruity and sweet, and it made Marz hunger for more. “Derek,” she gasped. “Yes, yes, yes.”

Her palm cupped and squeezed the bulge of his erection through his jeans. His hips jerked into the touch, craving more of her, all of her. He groaned and it seemed to egg her on, because she pressed and rubbed her hand against his trapped cock until he was panting and imagining taking her down to the ground.

“Jesus, Emilie, you’re driving me fucking crazy,” he said as he worked kisses back up her body to her mouth.

“I know just what you mean,” she said. Her molten hot gaze met his. Eyes hooded, lips shiny and swollen, cheeks flushed, she was a freaking goddess standing under the moonlit sky. He felt the force of her beauty every bit as much in his chest as in his cock.

“You sure about that, babe?” he asked as he took her mouth in a deep, wet kiss. “Because my imagination has me stripping you of those fuck-hot jeans.”

“Yeah?” She rubbed his cock in a long stroke with the heel of her hand. “Mine has us getting a room at the hotel back there. So I’m sure,” she said with a smile.

Marz’s heart hammered against his breastbone and his cock jerked, clearly liking her idea, too. Except, if he took her up on it, he was going to end up buried inside her for as long as she’d have him. And so long as this clusterfuck of a situation defined their relationship, he couldn’t take things that far. Could he?

Michel’s Review

Laura Kaye has added another superb addition to the Hard Ink series. If you have not read the Hard Ink series or any of Laura’s books, I would highly recommend all of her books. Her writing is flawless. She weaves a tale that is gripping in so many ways. Her books are emotional, witty, and loaded with suspense. Her characters are larger than life and jump off the pages. Readers easily embrace them in their hearts. The books are meticulously plotted and each passage is delivered with great care. Her books flow with ease and each scene is like watching a movie.

Hard To Come By continues the series plot. This special ops team was set up, betrayed, and dishonorably discharged. Their records have been tarnished. Their reputation has ruined. Their personal characters have been destroyed. They are trying to get to the bottom of this betrayal that destroyed their lives. There is more at stake than their personal reputations. The conspiracy runs deep.

Derek DiMarzio, known as Marz, is the techie of the group. He can break any password, find hidden info in the cyber world haystack, and is a data geru. He is also the comedian of the group and has a way of keeping the guys from getting mired down by the crap they have endured. He has sacrificed more than his reputation and career for the army. He has lost part of his leg. He will carry the memories of the Army, good and bad, for the rest of his life.

Intel has led the group to Manny Garza. He is a part of the Church gang that has been giving them trouble. He has connections to the organization that orchestrated the betrayal that led to their discharge from the Army. Intel has also indicated that Garza has a sister, Emilie, living in the area. They have assigned Derek to occupy Emilie so that they can investigate her home for information on Manny’s whereabouts.

Derek performs his duties well. He performs them so well that he ends up head over heals in love with Emilie. He wants to continue seeing her after their mission is accomplished. As you can conclude, his teammates don’t want this to happen. They don’t want Derek to fall for the enemy. We all know the saying, keep your enemies close. That is exactly what Derek intends to do.

Emilie is not blind to her brother’s illegal activities. She doesn’t condone his actions and behaviors. She remembers the brother he once was, caring and protective. She wants him to get help and out of the life he has committed himself to. She has suffered from a bad marriage and has trust issues where men are concerned. When she meets Derek things begin to change.

The relationship between Derek and Emilie is breathtaking. There is more than sexual chemistry that keeps them inflamed. Their openness and honesty about their feelings is one of the things that strengthen the bonds between them.

The road for Derek and Emilie is not easy. Can these two find a lasting relationship in the midst of betrayal and wrongdoings? What is Manny’s connection? Will they be able to find Manny and gain the information they are seeking? Or is this going to blow up in their faces just like their careers did? Will Emilie find out Derek was using her to get the information they desperately need? Will the truth destroy their relationship?

Read Hard To Come By. The Hard Ink series is fantastic. I can’t wait for the next book.

JGS RDL Banner

We are so excited to bring you the Release Day Launch for Laura Kaye’s JUST GOTTA SAY! JUST GOTTA SAY is a 17K-word erotic menage short story. JUST GOTTA SAY will be $.99 and available in print!!

Just Gotta Say

Amazon ** Barnes & Noble

Just Gotta Say is a super sexy friends-to-lovers story and a contemporary ménage a quatres. Here’s the blurb:

Callie Davis stumbles upon two of her three male roommates in a surprising, molten-hot midnight tryst and discovers a side of herself she never knew existed. Desire to play with them grips her, and she can’t stop fantasizing about having multiple men, particularly her three long-time best friends.

Callie is thrilled when a guys’ night out gives her the perfect opportunity to recreate her fantasy, with the help of a threesome porn video and a bag of sex toys. That is, until Lucas, Jack and Noah return early and catch her in the act. More than anything, the guys want to make her fantasy come true. But Callie has a secret, and she can’t help wondering if being with all three men will risk the future she’s always wanted with one of them.

As three strong sets of hands caress and undress her, Callie surrenders to desire, because sometimes you just gotta say…yes.

Just Gotta Say Excerpt:

The set-up: Callie’s most secret fantasy was just unexpectedly revealed to her three male roommates…

The invitation he laid out for her—the invitation to be with them, to act out this fantasy for real with them—was completely outside anything she imagined possible.

She sat for a long moment, still mostly curled into herself. Her gaze lit on the rough bobbing of Jack’s Adams apple as he swallowed. His apparent case of nerves eased hers. A little. Soft, sandy-colored strands brushed against her forehead. Her nose filled with the scent of him, all night air and masculinity.

Callie took a deep breath, her body remembering her unfulfilled arousal even as her brain struggled to keep up. “What are you saying, Jack?” she whispered, buying herself time to think and needing him to spell it out.

One hand stroked her back while the other combed her hair off the side of her face. “I’m saying”—he nibbled at her ear, but this time his lips lingered, his warm exhalation caressing her skin—“that the three of us want to bring that fantasy to life for you. If you want.”

Every nerve ending tingled with the promise of what he offered. Her heart rose from where it had plummeted into her gut and now hammered against her chest. Images of the three of them kissing her, fucking her, swamped her brain. Blood roared through her ears. “Are you teasing me?”

“Look at me,” he said, sliding his large hand under her cheek.

The commanding press of his skin on hers skittered electrical charges down her neck to her breasts. Her nipples hardened. She acquiesced and sat up just enough to face one of her three dearest friends.

“We want to do this for you.” He quirked the sexiest of crooked smiles and shrugged with one shoulder. “You know we’d be good together.”

She didn’t know whether his “we” meant her and him or the four of them. An encouraging voice in her mind said both interpretations were true.

He cupped her neck, his grasp comforting and reassuring, and brushed his lips against her right cheekbone. Her right eye. Her forehead. Tilting his head to the other side, he repeated the action against her left eye, the apple of her left cheek. She gasped when his last kiss fell on that tender, hollow spot just below her ear.

“What do you want, Callie? Whatever you want, we want. Always.”

EXCERPT:

Easy tugged down the covers and gestured for Jenna to get in. She chose the side that would allow her to lie on the uninjured side of her face.

“After what you’ve been through, I don’t want to do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable,” Easy said.

Propping herself on an elbow, Jenna shook her head. “You won’t. You’re the—” She blanched as if she hadn’t meant to say whatever she’d nearly said.

Which made Easy need to know. He crawled on the bed as if lured by the words. “Finish. That. Sentence.”

She eased back onto the pillow, red hair sprawling around her shoulders like silk, and stared up at him. And it took everything Easy had not to settle himself on top of her and tease the words out with his hands and tongue.

“The only one who makes me feel safe,” she whispered.

Satisfaction humming through him, Easy turned and stretched out on his back. Because if he kept looking at her while she was looking at him like that, he might not be able to restrain himself from having what he wanted. A taste. A chance.

None of which she was in any shape for. And given the shitstorm in his head, probably neither was he.

“Good. That’s good,” he murmured, blowing out a long breath. Damn, he was tired. Not just because he hadn’t slept much the night before. But because of the size of the load he’d been shouldering for the past twelve-plus months. If he could only figure out how to put it down. He scrubbed his hands over his face, wishing he could shake himself out of this fucking slump.

If Rimes were here, he’d kick Easy’s ass for being such a morose motherfucker.

But he wasn’t here. Which was the damn problem in a nutshell.

He dropped his arms to the bed and peered over at Jenna.

She lay on her side facing him, hand tucked under her chin, not looking the least bit settled or relaxed.

“Whatchu need?”

“You.” She spoke the word without any hesitation, any doubt, any seeming self-consciousness.

“Have me, Jenna. Whatever you want,” he said, his cock stirring no matter how hard he reined himself in.

Holding his gaze, she moved closer until her head rested on his shoulder and her body trapped his arm between them. And, suddenly, she wasn’t fucking close enough.

“Here,” he whispered, lifting his arm and inviting her closer. And damn if his heart didn’t soar when she fitted herself the rest of the way against him, her face against his throat, her breasts against his ribs, her leg curling up onto his thigh.

He wasn’t sure whose sigh was louder. All Easy knew was that this was the first time in more than a year he didn’t feel alone. Wrapping his arm around her, he couldn’t resist squeezing her in just a little closer.

“Thank you,” she whispered, her breath ticklish against his neck.

He laced his fingers between hers where they rested on his chest. “I gotchu. You just close your eyes and know I’m here.”

Michel’s Review

Hard To Hold On To by Laura Kaye is a novella in the highly acclaimed Hard Ink series. This novella picks up where Hard As You Can ended. It is the story that plays on the connection between Jenna Dean and Edward ‘Easy’ Cantrell established in the previous book. Both are damaged souls that understand the pain that their past experiences have left very deep emotional scars. For Easy, it is his survivor guilt and the anguish that goes along with that guilt. For Jenna it was the kidnapping.

Together they help each other through the pain. They learn to climb out of the darkness together. The give each other the emotional security each one needs individually. Easy will learn to reach out to others and share his feelings that darken his soul.

Together Jenna and Easy find a love that is stronger than their demons. They find friendship, self worth, and the importance of leaning on others in their darkest days.

Laura Kaye delivered a highly emotional novella that packed more of a punch than most full length novels do. She handled some very dark issues with the great care.

East of Ecstasy Excerpt Post
By Laura Kaye

I’m super excited to be celebrating my newest release, East of Ecstasy, today! This book is the last in my Greek-mythology-inspired Hearts of the Anemoi series, and it features an outcast god upon whose shoulders the weight of the world literally rests. It’s a story of belonging and finding strength in love and good triumphing over evil. Today, I’ve got a sexy excerpt for you where the hero is confronted with a choice and takes a chance. Read on…

Flying in the elements, Devlin brought them in through the chimney, a regular frickin’ Santa, except, you know, without the gifts, good cheer, or glad tidings.

Inside, he followed her directions to a room at the top of the steps on the second floor. Big, fluffy-looking bed in the center, long dresser topped with jewelry and trinkets, walls covered in paintings and photographs. Anna’s bedroom, then. Her most private space.

No big deal.

Except in Devlin’s world you didn’t let someone into your inner sanctum, well, ever. Because doing so required trust and loyalty, two concepts that were way more theoretical than actual, at least in Devlin’s experience. He trusted no one. And the only people who had ever been loyal to him were his brothers. One died for it. The other had been tortured and imprisoned.

So, damn big deal.

With the maelstrom raging inside his head, We’re here was all the warning Devlin managed to give before shifting them back into their corporeal forms just inside the door. A second later, he recalled how the experience had impacted Anna the last time, and found in his carelessness with her a whole new reason to hate himself.

She gasped and swayed. Devlin caught her in his arms, even though the emotional tumult he felt had resurrected the fear and anxiety about closeness and being touched that were his old best friends. And gods, even though his body was on high alert, Anna’s warm curves felt so good in his arms—

“You can let me go,” she said. “I know it makes you uncomfortable.”

Well, fuck.

For a moment, it felt as though time stopped, and Devlin found himself perched on a cliff’s edge. A step forward sent him into the cold, lonely free-fall of solitude, and very likely shut down any future possibility of receiving her touch—because, really, how many times could someone offer affection and have it thrown back in their face before they learned to keep it to themselves…or offer it to someone more worthy?

But a step backward, a step onto the solid safety of hard ground, well, that at least maintained her touch and affection as a potential. Whether Devlin was too emotionally stunted to grasp that potential with both hands and never let go was another matter entirely.

A moment of indecision. And then Devlin did something he almost never did—he took a chance, a risk, a figurative step away from the edge.

He leaned down, planted his hands in her silky hair, and kissed Anna like she was the air he needed to breathe.

And, sweet Zeus, after the slightest moment of surprised hesitation, she melted against him, fisted her hands in his hair, and opened her mouth to his on a high, throaty moan. Her arousal was a living presence all around him, kicking his heart into a sprint and sending blood pounding into his cock.

Devlin’s tongue swept into her mouth, tasting and stroking and twining with hers. One of his hands went to her back and pulled her closer, but it wasn’t enough. The disparity in their height was part of the problem, so Devlin dropped his hands to her ass and lifted her until her face was closer to his and her legs wrapped around his waist.

Gods, but she was a sweet little thing in his arms.

Anna’s moan was open and honest and full of need. And gods be damned the tight friction of her heated center over his erection had the room spinning around him until the only thing he knew or saw or felt was her. He stumbled a step until her back encountered the wall next to the door, and the forced collision of her hips into his had both of them crying out.

For so long, Devlin had suppressed and ignored the needs of his body, a penance for the wrongs done to others that lay at his feet. And that part of his brain was pricking at him like a jackhammer against concrete. But when Anna leveraged her back against the wall to grind against his cock, Devlin’s body threw his thinking mind into a dark corner and, for just once, let himself have something he wanted with the desperation of a dying man.

And he very well might be that.

So, did you have a favorite line from the excerpt? Thanks for reading!

 Krisyn’s Review

bigstock_Five_stars_Mesh_13933472

Annalise is a painter who is compelled to paint pictures that she doesn’t understand.

Devlin is the son of an evil man struggling to do what is right even though no one expects him to be any better than his father.

Their chemistry is electric and their romance is powerful.

Anna is shocked to discover that the world she lives in isn’t nearly as straight forward as she thought. A strange and attractive man appears in her studio and demands to know why she is painting both him and his father. What they discover together is that she paints scenes straight out of the future. A future neither of them want to come true.

East of Ecstasy is a wonderful addition to the series. Devlin is a sexy bad boy type and Annalise is the nurturing but strong willed type. They are so believable together and the supernatural aspects of their lives make them a good match. The world that Laura Kaye creates with this series is wonderfully imaginative. The details in this book are perfect and everything fits together. This book is the final book of this series and it brings everything together perfectly. There is some sadness but the triumph is that much more powerful for it. This book is worth a read as a part of the series of even separate. You may be a little behind but that doesn’t mean the book isn’t powerful enough to get you invested in it anyway.

HardAsYouCan Cvr Final

Synopsis

Five dishonored soldiers.

Former Special Forces.

One last mission.

These are the men of Hard Ink.

Ever since hard-bodied, drop-dead-charming Shane McCallan strolled into the dance club where Crystal Dean works, he’s shown a knack for getting beneath her defenses. For her little sister’s sake, Crystal can’t get too close. Until her job and Shane’s mission intersect, and he reveals talents that go deeper than she could have guessed.

Shane would never turn his back on a friend in need, especially a former Special Forces teammate running a dangerous, off-the-books operation. Nor can he walk away from Crystal. The gorgeous waitress is hiding secrets she doesn’t want him to uncover. Too bad. He’s exactly the man she needs to protect her sister, her life, and her heart. All he has to do is convince her that when something feels this good, you hold on as hard as you can–and never let go.

 Excerpt

With one last deep breath, Crystal pulled the dressing room door open. And walked right into a big, male body.

Crystal gasped. “You can’t be back here!” She grabbed Shane’s shirt with both hands and hauled him into the dressing room, then locked the door. “What the hell are you doing? You’re going to get me killed.” She’d meant the words figuratively, of course, but in point of fact, they possessed some literal truth.

His gaze was hard and lethal as steel. “I saw you run past the door.”

And?” she said, exasperation using up every bit of her patience.

I was worried.”

He was . . . worried? Even after he saw me . . . ?

Why?” she said.

He muttered under his breath, his fists clenching and unclenching. “I take it that was Bruno?”

Crystal’s gaze dropped to the floor, the one she wished would open up and swallow her. She nodded.

Well, I saw him grab you, Crystal. He might as well have mauled you—” Shane raked his fingers through his hair, messing up the neatly combed style that highlighted the blond.

Crystal grabbed his hands. “Don’t do that. You’re messing up your comb-over disguise,” she said. Using her own fingers, she straightened his hair, all the while the realization sank in that he wasn’t mad because she’d kissed Bruno, he was mad because Bruno had kissed her. Shane went still under her touch. Her face heated and, sure enough, his gaze blazed at her. She yanked her hands away. “You have to leave—”

Not yet.” A raw, aggressive masculinity poured off him, and Shane shook his head. “Not until you hear what I have to say.” He stepped closer.

But, Shane—”

No. What he did out there, that wasn’t okay with you. Jesus. I could see it in your eyes, your body, the way your fucking hands shook.” He heaved a deep breath, like he was attempting to calm himself. “And if it wasn’t okay with you, it’s sure as hell not okay with me.” Closer, yet. So close his chest brushed hers. “In point of fact, I have a major fucking problem with a male forcing a woman to do anything,” he said, his eyes burning with molten silver. “But let me be clear, Crystal. Seeing him all over you like that would do bad things to me even if you wanted his attention. So my intentions here”—he pursed his lips and shook his head—“they’re not all honorable. Because I want you. I want you so bad I can hardly breathe.”

The room spun around Crystal, and butterflies looped within her belly. “Shane,” she whispered, dumbstruck by his declaration. Nervous energy exploded within her until she thought she might burst into a thousand pieces. “Please. We can talk later,” she rushed. “You have to go.”

You promise? Because I’m not done here. Not by a long shot.”

My Review

4 Stars

Hard As You Can is filled with action, intrigue, and suspense.  I could not stop turning the pages to see what would happen next.  This story tackles some very sensitive issues and is not for the faint of heart.

Shane McCallan is a smoking hot Military Alpha Hero.  When he busts into Confessions to save a friends brother he never expected to run right into the most delicate and beautiful woman he had ever seen.  Crystal freaked when she accidentally ran directly into Shane.  Shane saw a sexy, scared, and skittish little beauty and was shocked when Crystal asked that he hit her.  From that moment Shane knew that he would never forget Crystal and would do anything to get her out of there.

“There was a call.  They’ll be coming”, she whispered… “I have to scream now, and you have to hit me.”

“What?”

“If you don’t. they’ll know that I helped you.  And I can’t…” What am I doing?  Jesus, what am I doing?  “You have to.  Please.”

The reason I say that this story is not for the faint of heart is because it deals with sexual abuse, torture, and sex trafficking.  Eventually it is revealed that Crystal has been tortured and raped in order to pay off her fathers debt and to protect her sister Jenna.  Bruno Ashe, the man that saved Crystal from the beatings is a monster himself.  He is rough and uses her like she is nothing but a rag doll.

“What? What’s the matter?”

“He hit you.  Again.”

Damn.  The mark was so much lighter this morning.  Crystal had hoped Jenna wouldn’t notice..

Can Shane rescue Crystal and Jenna or is Crystal in way too deep?  This suspenseful and dark romance will have you sitting on the edge of your seat hoping and praying that Shane and his team are successful.  I fell in love with Shane  McCallan with his need to protect Crystal and keep her safe.  The only reason I gave this read a 4 star instead of 5 star review is that the ending was really abrupt.  I would have liked to have seen a little bit more closure.  I am very excited about Hard to Hold On To.  Jenna needs a happily ever after.

Edgy, sexy, and full of suspense! A great read from a great new author!”
