Tracey’s Review

I like my books angsty and full of emotion as much as the next person, but sometimes you just want to kick back with a read that takes things a little easier, one that is a pure feel-good book that makes you smile. The Cupcake series by author Bethany Lopez does just that, and CUPCAKE OVERLOAD, the second book in the series is just as delightful and as much fun as the first book was.

Lila Compton is back at it again, doing what she does best. As a PI, she’s keeping plenty busy with the cheaters and philanderers that seem to run rampant in her small town, but this book brings a little something extra. When a young woman that Lila and her girls ‘rescued’ from the clutches of a gnarly biker dude shows up face-down in a swimming pool, Lila is immediately on the case. Things are a little trickier, because said biker dude is none other than the VP of Lila’s hot times a billion lover man, Cade, and is claiming innocence. With Cade and the ladies on the trail, things are as crazy as one might expect, but, as always, amidst all the action, Lila is still making time for her beloved cupcakes.

I am thoroughly enjoying this series, due in large part to the author’s wicked sense of humor that is apparent in every interaction, in Lila’s inner dialogue, and in the shenanigans that abound. Bethany Lopez continues to write Lila as a self-sufficient, I’m not afraid of anything kind of woman, and her antics are a trip to follow. Throw in the lovable group of friends, her two endearing kids, and Cade, the man that shows her what it means to be cherished, but in a totally hot kind of way, and you’ve got a winner. I’m always looking forward to another book in this series, and give this one a solid 4 stars for keeping me super-interested, super-hungry (because, cupcakes!), and super-entertained. If you’re looking for a fun series with non-stop laughs and action, you can’t go wrong with this one.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.  Deacon Carver, the legendary player in Thatch series has fallen hard for a woman he can’t stand.  A woman that betrayed his best friends, used her brother, and has returned home to use them up once again.  Charlie Easton may be one of his best friends little sister but she is not going to win him over.

Like most things, there are always two sides to every story.  What Deacon perceives as betrayals are Charlie’s burdens to carry.  The love of her life is dead, he broke her heart and left her pregnant and alone.  He used her, dumped her, and was engaged to another woman before he died suddenly. He never had a chance to meet his son. That was the beginning of more betrayals to come.  Her mother gained custody of her child and abandon them both.  Her brother gained custody and forced her to go away to school while he raised her son.  Now she’s finished with school and back in town.  She’s determined to get custody of her son and make a good life for them both.  She never anticipated Deacon Carver changing her carefully mapped out plans.  She has trust issues and a notorious player isn’t going to change them.

Both Charlie and Deacon are both going to experience changes in their lives.  These changes are for the better.  They are both going to learn to love and trust with their full hearts.  A beautiful little boy is going to gain a real family that only a super hero can appreciate.

Show Me How was a great addition to the Thatch series by Molly McAdams.  I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Furious Rush by S. C. Stephens is a winner.

Mackenzie Cox has a lot to prove in the world of motorcycle racing.  Living in the shadows of her father, a racing legend, being a rookie in the sport as well as  being the only female on the Cox Racing Team, is pure pressure.  To make matters worse the Cox Racing Team is about bankrupt. The major financial problems could make or break the existence of this legendary team.  Their rival competitors are the Benneti Motorsports team. There is more to it than being competitive teams, there is bad blood between them.  The owner Keith Benneti is her father’s worst  enemy.

Mackenzie’s rookie year has her in a complete tailspin.  Her main competition is Hayden Hayes, a former street racer that rides for the Benneti team.  She hates that she is immensely attracted to the enemy.  There’s more to Hayden than his illegal racing past. He revs her motor in many ways.  His influence makes her a better rider.

With Hayden’s sketchy past and position on the opposing team, he is off limits.  Plus Cox Racing is experiencing sabotage every race day.  Is Hayden behind it?  Is Benneti Motorsports behind it?  The sabotage will ruin what is left of the Cox Racing Team.

The first day starts out on the right foot.  She meets her brother’s worst enemy, Grant Eventide.  To make matters worse she kisses him.  Let the fun begin.

Zoe’s brother Jack wants her to stay away from Grant.  Grant’s ex girlfriend wants Zoe to stay away from Grant.  Zoe’s best friend encourages her to hang out with Grant.  The school is taking bets on what comes next for Grant and Zoe.  Is Zoe destined to be a ringer, the girl that gets used by the popular boy and dumped when it’s time for the dance?  Jack thinks so.  Zoe doesn’t care.  Grant is intrigued with Zoe, she keeps surprising him.  All bets are on Grant.  Zoe is placing her own bet on herself.

Monica Murphy can write a love story for every generation.  She has a talent of creating characters and a compelling story that any reader of any genre will enjoy.

Daring The Bad Boy is the perfect teen romance.  A shy girl meets a troubled boy.  Both are  at summer camp for very different reasons.  Annie wants to overcome her shyness and become a more social person.  Jacob has been in trouble since his mother passed away. He has been ordered by the court to work at his uncle’s summer camp or do time in juvie.

Jacob is focused on staying out of trouble.  One of his uncle’s hard rules is to stay away from the campers.  When he meets Annie, he can’t help but be intrigued.  In many ways she doesn’t quite fit. In other ways, she stands out among the girls at camp.

When Annie persuades Jacob to give her swimming lessons and help her with another boy, a friendship begins.  A friendship that leads to love.  A love that could be trouble for them both.

Monica tapped into her inner teenager and delivered a book that all teenagers can relate to.  I would highly recommend this book to girls ages 13 to 16 years old.  It is the perfect sweet romance that any parent would approve of their daughters reading.

“The storm is keeping me awake,” she whispers while taking her first step onto the porch.
I stand to greet her, not knowing if it’s my body or mind making the decision to do so. “Me too.”

I casually walk around the cluttered racks and shelves of used junk, touching lamps and other random things occasionally, as if I’m just browsing and not intent on buying an illegal gun. I’m sure a gun enthusiast would know more about them like make or model, but to me, it’s just eeny, meeny, miny, moe.

Deciding on the large one so that I do this right the first time, I pull out the wad of cash I grabbed from my childhood piggy bank and start counting out the three hundred dollars required for my purchase based on the handwritten price tag. I lose count when the door buzzes, announcing another customer. Nosy, I glance over to see who it is.

My blood warms in my veins, sending a scalding blaze of heat from my scalp down to my toes at the mere sight of the tall man. Everything about him screams dangerous, from the thick chestnut-colored facial hair to his black leather jacket in summer and the cigarette billowing a cloud of smoke from between his two fingers. When he removes his dark sunglasses, it’s his lowered brow and deep set eyes that are the scariest. His cold gaze undresses me from my V-neck tee down to my open-toed platform sandals before he deems me lacking and quickly moves on to the used guitar display in the corner. But at least he actually saw me, if only for a few, brief seconds.

The Wind Dragons MC by Chantal Fernando is becoming one of my favorite series.  I devour each book the day it releases.  I have been looking forward to Wolf’s Mate because it was Vinnie’s book.  Vinnie was the young prospect we met in the very first book.  He has been the designated protector of the Wind Dragon old ladies throughout the series.  It’s time for Vinnie to get an old lady of his own.

Other than his interaction within the club and the old ladies, readers have not been introduced to the real Vinnie.  Vinnie was brought up in the foster care system.  He never had a family until he joined the Wind Dragons.  They taught him loyalty, honor, love, and brotherhood.  He would do anything for his family, including protecting a woman related to  the Wild Men MC.  He owes the president a marker.  He is a man of honor and makes good to his word.  He had been enlisted to protect Talon’s cousin, Shayla.

Shayla is hidden away and under twenty four hour protection.  Her father was an accountant for the mob.  He was arrested and is turning over vital information. He has damning evidence.  His betrayal has left Shay in danger. There’s are mark on Shay.  Shay wasn’t involved, she’s just collateral.

Shay is nothing like Vinnie expected.  She’s not the entitled, wealthy , spoiled girl he was led to believe.  She’s been kept prisoner in order to remain safe.
