He’s a Special Forces veteran making his pro hockey debut. She’s a dogged sports reporter determined to get a scoop. She’s also his best friend’s widow…
Fans can’t get enough of Levi Hunt, the Special Forces veteran who put his NHL career on hold to serve his country and fight the bad guys. So when his new Chicago Rebels bosses tell him to cooperate with the press on a profile, he’s ready to do his duty. Until he finds out who he has to work with: flame-haired, freckle-splashed, impossibly perky Jordan Cooke.
The woman he should not have kissed the night she buried her husband, Levi’s best friend in the service.
Hockey-stick-up-his-butt-serious Levi Hunt might despise Jordan for reasons she can’t fathom—okay, it’s to do with kissing—but her future in the cutthroat world of sports reporting hangs on delivering the goods on the league’s hottest, grumpiest rookie. So what if he’s not interested in having his life plated up for public consumption. Too bad. Jordan will have to play dirty to get her scoop and even dirtier to get her man. Only in winning the story, she might just lose her heart…

Michel’s Review
Good Guy by Kate Meader is the first book in her new sports romance series, The Rookie Rebels. The Rookie Rebels series features rookie hockey players making their appearance in the NHL while finding love.
Levi Hunt is making his rookie debut at the age of thirty after serving in the special forces military. Not only is he the oldest rookie but he is also “The Story” of the season. He wants to concentrate on his professional hockey career rather than being in the spotlight as a war hero. That part of his life is over and he can’t talk about most of it. A rookie female reporter, a woman who has past connections with him, is assigned to cover his debut and deliver his story. He thought he had seen the last of Jordan Cooke after his teammate and her husband’s funeral five years earlier.
Jordan and Levi are both starting new careers in their lives. Jordan is venturing into a male dominated field as a sports writer. She has regrets that she has been forced to use her connections to Levi to kick start her career. She also remembers the emotional moment she shared with Levi on the worst day of her life. Now she is getting to know Levi as a man, an athlete, and friend rather than her husband’s teammate in the Green Berets. He’s honorable, engaging, and sexy. She’s ready for more than a new career. She’s ready to love again and Levi has captured her heart. Hopefully he can see past her career and see her heart.
Levi has felt guilty for kissing Jordan after her husband’s funeral. It was a weak moment for both of them. He doesn’t want that moment to ruin the friendship they are beginning to form. He has wanted her for years but he’s not about to ruin her new career. He wants her to be a success and protect her from the jerks dominating her field.
Jordan and Levi are in for something special and much better than a new career. They are finding love.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I would of liked to see more romantic interaction and dialogue between Levi and Jordan. At times I felt the book focused on PTSD issues and female equality issues a bit too much. I wanted more romance.
