I casually walk around the cluttered racks and shelves of used junk, touching lamps and other random things occasionally, as if I’m just browsing and not intent on buying an illegal gun. I just keep wandering around until, what do you know, the shiny guns in the glass case just so happen to catch my eye. There are three choices, small, medium and large. I’m sure a gun enthusiast would know more about them like make or model, but to me, it’s just eeny, meeny, miny, moe.

Deciding on the large one so that I do this right the first time, I pull out the wad of cash I grabbed from my childhood piggy bank and start counting out the three hundred dollars required for my purchase based on the handwritten price tag. I lose count when the door buzzes, announcing another customer. Nosy, I glance over to see who it is.

My blood warms in my veins, sending a scalding blaze of heat from my scalp down to my toes at the mere sight of the tall man. Everything about him screams dangerous, from the thick chestnut-colored facial hair to his black leather jacket in summer and the cigarette billowing a cloud of smoke from between his two fingers. When he removes his dark sunglasses, it’s his lowered brow and deep set eyes that are the scariest. His cold gaze undresses me from my V-neck tee down to my open-toed platform sandals before he deems me lacking and quickly moves on to the used guitar display in the corner. But at least he actually saw me, if only for a few, brief seconds.

Lifting her off my bike, I stand her up next to it. Her legs are so wobbly she has to reach for the handlebar to hold herself upright. That’s fine, she won’t need to be standing for the next part.

“Get on your knees,” I order, and then I have to steel my features to hide my surprise when she obeys with no reluctance, kneeling right down on the uneven pavement. Her long, wavy butterscotch hair spills over her shoulders, throwing off streaks of gold in the sunlight, practically forming a halo.

My thrill-seeking angel is about to lose her wings.

Well, she may not lose her wings just yet, but those ivory feathers will definitely be stained. Darkened. And I wanna be the one who pluck every last one of them. Why is the idea of dirtying her up so f***ing hot?

“You’re not going anywhere,” he says. “Sit. I’ll get you another drink.”

“It’s getting late,” I say feebly but I sit down anyway, my leg giving a protest of pain.

“You need something for that?” he says, noticing my wince.

“The scotch will do fine,” I tell him quickly, not wanting him to make a fuss. “But really, I should go.”

“Why?” he asks from the kitchen. I hear the top pop off the bottle, the slosh of liquid in the glass. “Where do you have to be?”

I have to think about that for a moment. He comes over and holds out the glass. “I won’t keep you here if you don’t want to be here. But if you do want to be here, you don’t need to make any excuses.”

I take the glass from him, holding it delicately in my fingers. He stands over me, a massive wall, waiting for some kind of response.

“I just…” I begin. “I…” I take a sip for bravery. Swallow. “I’m not very good at this.”

“Good at what?”

“At…this. Being with a man.”

When he doesn’t say anything to that, I look up at him. He’s got a peculiar smile on his face, his brows raised. “You call this being with a man?”

I clear my throat, feeling my cheeks grow hot. “I mean. I’ve told you before –”

“I never said I don’t do sex,” I remind him quickly.

His eyes never stop searching my face. “Then what is it? What are you afraid to say?”

I put my drink down with a clunk. “Holy pressure.” And now it’s not just my face going hot but my entire body, flushed from head to toe.

“You’re on fire, little red,” he says, his gaze skirting over my limbs in such a hungry way I can almost feel them on my skin. “I have to say, I like this look on you. Hot and bothered.”

“Back with the innuendos again,” I comment but my voice is weak.

“No, no innuendos this time. You came looking for me tonight not because you wanted to confess but because you want something from me. What is it? What do you want from me? What do you think I can give you?”

Jesus. This is so utterly unnerving. His words slice right through me, his eyes still peeling under the layers, trying to get at something I’m not even sure of myself.

If I lie, he’ll know. I can only be honest with him.

“I want…” I take in a deep breath, my eyes breaking away. “I want…company.”

“Company?” He sounds surprised.

I nod. “That’s the truth. I’m lonely. And I’m afraid. And I’m tired of being both those things. I want to be with someone who makes me forget who I am. You make me feel fearless in a way I didn’t think possible.”

There. That’s the truth. Most of it. It hangs in the air, thickening the tension like flour to stock.

He sits down next to me, has a mouthful of Scotch. “Wow,” he says, running his hand over the beard on his jaw. “And here I was thinking you wanted my cock.”

I burst out laughing. So does he, a big wonderful bellow. The tension in the room eases up a notch.

“Sorry,” I tell him when I catch my breath. “I guess they can both mean the same thing.”

He sucks in his lip briefly, his eyes taking a lustful turn. “If you want it to.” We stare at each other for a few heavy beats. Then his focus trails back to my gaze and he says, “Why don’t you stay over?”

The Wind Dragons MC by Chantal Fernando is becoming one of my favorite series. I devour each book the day it releases. I have been looking forward to Wolf’s Mate because it was Vinnie’s book. Vinnie was the young prospect we met in the very first book. He has been the designated protector of the Wind Dragon old ladies throughout the series. It’s time for Vinnie to get an old lady of his own.

Other than his interaction within the club and the old ladies, readers have not been introduced to the real Vinnie. Vinnie was brought up in the foster care system. He never had a family until he joined the Wind Dragons. They taught him loyalty, honor, love, and brotherhood. He would do anything for his family, including protecting a woman related to the Wild Men MC. He owes the president a marker. He is a man of honor and makes good to his word. He had been enlisted to protect Talon’s cousin, Shayla.

Shayla is hidden away and under twenty four hour protection. Her father was an accountant for the mob. He was arrested and is turning over vital information. He has damning evidence. His betrayal has left Shay in danger. There’s are mark on Shay. Shay wasn’t involved, she’s just collateral.

Cillian O’Malley has always been known as the hell-raiser, the skirt chaser, the O’Malley most likely to find himself in the middle of trouble. I have read and enjoyed the first two books in her series about the O’Malley family of Boston, and AN INDECENT PROPOSAL is my favorite so far.

As the middle sibling in the powerful O’Malley clan, Cillian O’Malley has had it fairly easy. He doesn’t have the burden of taking over the reins of the family business from his father, and marrying him off to help ally them with one the other powerful crime families isn’t in the cards. Since the tragic death of his brother, Devlin, Cillian has been keeping his nose clean and learning more of his part as the numbers man for the far-reaching and varied O’Malley interests. The one woman that he can’t forget, though, is Olivia Rashidi. As the illegitimate daughter of one of the most powerful Russian syndicates, she knows all too well the reality of being part of a mob family, and wants no part of it for her daughter. Cillian, with his charm, his dark sex appeal, and his refusal to leave her alone, has all of her alarms going off, but darned if she can’t stay away.

I’m going to tell you that Katee can write a steamy scene like nobody’s dang business. The chemistry between Cillian and Olivia is off-the-charts hot, and Cillian can bring it. I mean, seriously, smoke might have been coming out of my e-reader at some points while I was reading this book. And, besides the intense physical attraction, these two just click in every way, smoothing out each others’ rough edges and creating a safe place for each other.

AN INDECENT PROPOSAL continues the complex and intense O’Malley saga, and does it very well. I was so invested in seeing how things played out for everyone that I literally could not put this one down. I love that Katee has created this intricate tapestry of the inter-mingling of the three big families that rule Boston, and bringing the Romanovs more fully into the thick of things really amped things up. Everyone is so very different, even coming from the same backgrounds, and I am really enjoying seeing each character’s story as it plays out. Sloan O’Malley has been a bit of a mystery throughout the series, and I am looking very forward to FORBIDDEN PROMISES, her story. AN INDECENT PROPOSAL is 4.5 hot, suspenseful, powerful stars of a thrill ride, and, as are all of Katee’s books, one that I happily recommend.

“Kennedy, do you mind sitting in the chair?” Max asks.

I turn to look at him and then focus on the chair. I can do this. After joining him up on stage, I take a seat.

Kneeling down in front of me, he smiles. “If you ever feel uncomfortable, all you have to do is say stop. We’re not going to do something you don’t want.”

“Okay.”

“Are you ready?” Closing my eyes, I nod. The lights dim but when I open my eyes, I can’t see the couch. The lights above have hidden them from sight, making it feel like I’m the only one in the room. Music starts to play and it’s no shock that “Pony” by Ginuwine is the song choice. It’s the perfect one to set the mood.

I can feel someone behind me and then their warm hands caressing my shoulders. The smell of his cologne drifts to my nose and I gasp. Is it the guy I talked to in the club? Heart racing, I wait for him to face me, but he stays behind me, his mouth so close to my ear.

“Are you ready, Kennedy?” he murmurs. I suck in a breath and freeze. It is him. He circles around me, his dark eyes full of heat. “Are you?” he repeats.

“What is that?”
Clearing her throat, she says, “I like it rough. Really rough.”
The right side of my mouth curves up, my hand stalling just below the apex of her thighs when my phone buzzes. I release a sigh. Grabbing the phone from my pocket, I sit up and read the text: Let’s get the fuck out of here. I look back at the black-haired raven I’ve left squirming on the metal barstool next to me. I’d like to explore exactly how she likes it, but duty calls. Standing up suddenly, I grab my wallet and slap some bills down for the drinks.
“What are you doing?” she demands, desperation lacing her tone as her eyes go wide.

Pushing open the exit door that leads to the alley, my asshole friends are waiting near the car they’ve pulled around.
The rusting red door slams shut, the click of the lock heard loudly behind me. The alley is quiet compared to the loud music that blares inside the club. “Fuckers.” With my arms out wide, I yell, “What the fuck? Where’s the fire? I was closing the deal.”

I walk to the passenger’s side of the car, punching Danny on the arm when I pass him. “Shit, man, just give me a heads-up next time. I wasted some of my best lines on her.”
Danny claims the front seat, so I duck into the back seat of a restored 1969 black Gran Torino. Cocky behind the wheel, Blaise takes off before we even have our seatbelts on, and says, “Stop hitting on everyone that takes pity on you then.”
“Fuck you. I can get any woman I want. No one’s taking pity on me.”
Danny breaks into the argument, “You guys really need to find a new hobby.”
“One-night stands are plenty entertaining,” Blaise retorts, smiling.
Danny puts his arm on the back of the seat and turns toward me. “I’m not going to lecture you—”
“Again,” I add.
“Again,” he repeats while rolling his eyes. “But we’ve talked about this a fuck ton of times. She’s not Jane and until you figure out what the hell is going on there, or if anything is going on there, these women are all the same—just another disappointment you’re going to have in the morning because they’re not her.”
Blaise verbally steps in, “Damn, dude, why so deep? You’re bringing me down.”
Danny laughs. I don’t. We’ve been friends for many years now, so Danny knows my game. He knows me well enough to know what I’m doing. Until I sort out this mess with the first woman I ever loved, the rest are just regrets waiting to happen, along with the regrets I can’t take back.
But I know him well too. We relate in a way that Blaise doesn’t understand, on a level that one day he’d be lucky to experience. No matter what I’ve been through with Jane, I’ve loved, hard. When I first began reading The Pre-Season, I thought I was reading an erotic novella. After I finished this short story, I realized it was the first step in Josie Savage’s journey to becoming an independent woman. A vacation affair with an older hot Navy Seal makes her realize how important her upcoming college career is.

Josie and Elijah are perfect together in and out of bed. Their red hot affair is going to leave them both with steamy memories and fantasy material. Their lives are on two very different paths. Josie is heading off to college on the east coast at Montgomery University. Elijah is a Navy Seal. He’s bound to his duty and serves with honor.

What started out as a vacation with her superstar NFL quarterback father begins to change the dynamics in the father/ daughter relationship. Their life together has been a very rocky road. Josie Savage’s story starts right where it left off in The Pre-Season.

Her arrival at Montgomery University is anything but quiet. Once again her father is stealing the limelight as she moves in. She wants her peers to see her as an individual rather than Joey Savage’s daughter. It doesn’t help that he bribes her roommates with new computers and threatens the guys outside her Campus Home.

Josie slowly begins to settle in. She has bonded with her roommates and it looks like freshman year is off to a great start. At her first college party she catches the attention of both quarterbacks, the starter- Mark Bishop and the backup -Runner Rarity. One is completely available and the biggest manwhore on campus, the other is taken by the meanest woman on campus. Both are super hot, but one makes her heart race. The one that is unavailable. One is a naturally talented athlete that doesn’t need football to succeed in the future and the other is an incredibly talented, hungry player waiting to take the field and make his future.

What starts out as friendship with both of these incredible guys turns into a love triangle that tests her friendships with her roommates, her reputation, and makes her a target for the meanest woman on campus.

One will steal her heart and become the most important man in her life. The other will become the best friend and strongest ally she has in school.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a great introduction to a colorful, dynamic cast of characters that will play a huge role in this series. It showcased exactly how college is in the freshman year, as well as the importance of college sports. It also showcased family dynamics and how those relationships can mold our lives.

The sun shone into the room, and it took me a few moments to realize where I was. I didn’t recognize the king-size bed, or the black sheets, but then Caden walked past the open door and all the memories flooded into place.

His eyebrow lifted. “I’m not selling it enough?” He lifted his cup. “You want some coffee?”

“I’m wondering if today is the day I try coffee too.”

“You’ve never had coffee?”

“I’m beginning to think I’m lame.” I thought about it. “Really lame.”

“You slept at some guy’s house last night. Think of it that way.” His smirk was back. “Not so lame now.”

I could do one better. “I slept at a fraternity house.”

“And you drank beer.”

“It was the second night in a row that I drank beer.”

“See? Not so lame after all.”

“You’re right.” I sat up. “I’m halfway to total badass.”

He grinned. “We cuddled last night, and you could think of it as dry humping. You almost got some last night.”

Except I hadn’t, and we were in the friend zone. Why were my hands curling around the covers into tight balls? I glanced down and forced them to loosen, then shrugged, trying to be the nonchalant badass I was.

“You carried me to bed. Almost the same thing.”

Suddenly, the joking was gone, and his eyes burned. I could feel his heat from across the room, and my body reacted, instantly warming even before he said a word.

“Nothing’s the same as sliding inside,” he murmured after a moment. “The feel of being in there, feeling that clench around you, knowing you can push as deep as you want, as hard or gently as you want. Nope. I’ve gotta step off the joke train for a moment here. Nothing is remotely the same as that feeling.”

Fuck. My pulse spiked.

He tossed me a look. “Maybe I’ll cop a feel the next time.”

I pretended to groan. “One more notch on my badass peg. You better cop a feel next time.”

“Is that all I am to you? A notch on the bedpost? I feel so used, Stoltz.”

Okay. My last name. We were back on familiar ground here. But my grin was still a little shaky.

“Get used to it, Banks. I’m only disguised as this plain Jane. Inside there’s a wild woman just waiting to be let loose.”

He didn’t reply.

He stared at me for a few more seconds, then straightened from the doorway. “There’s nothing plain about you, Summer.”

I didn’t begin writing until after undergraduate college. There’d been storylines and characters in my head all my life, but it came to a boiling point one day and I HAD to get them out of me. So the computer was booted up and I FINALLY felt it click. Writing is what I needed to do. After that, I had to teach myself how to write. I can’t blame my teachers for not teaching me all those years in school. It was my fault. I was one of the students that was wishing I was anywhere but at school! Weston takes off his tie and begins unbuttoning his shirt. My eyes open a little wider. I watch every move. The way his fingers flip each button loose. The way his tanned and muscular chest flashes me as the shirt comes apart. That stupid Corporate grin on his face.

I sigh with frustration just as he takes the whole thing off and starts going for his belt.

Will Weston Conrad strip naked to swim?

Oh, yeah. You bet your ass he will. I called him Naked Man back when we were together. He has a thing for it.

“Come on, Tori. Let’s swim. You don’t need a suit. I’ve seen your goods.”

“First of all,” I say, crossing my arms and maintaining eye contact as the pants come down, “I’m not ‘goods.’ Second of all, I’m not giving you the pleasure of seeing me naked after you’ve been such an asshole.”

“When was I an asshole?”

He’s kidding, right? “All the time.”

“I’m just truthful, Victoria. You just can’t handle the truth.”

“I’m tired of fighting—” But I stop talking. Because yeah, he still looks amazing in those black boxer briefs he’s partial to.

“Did you miss him?” West asks.

“Who?” I say, forcing myself to look up at his face.

“Naked Man?”

I almost laugh, but catch myself just in time. “Weston—” But before I can get anything else out, he’s crossing the floor, I’m backing up, my hands are up, warning him to stay away, and I bump into the couch and fall back.

He stops in front of me, his goddamned bulge staring me in the face.

At least he’s not hard.

Ooops. Spoke too soon.

“Weston, stop it.”

“Come on,” he says, extending his hand. “We’re going to the beach.”

“I’m not getting naked with you.”

“I don’t need you naked. Your fucking skirt is so short you could wade in up to your thighs.” He shakes his hand at me, urging. “Come on.”

I close my eyes so I can stop staring at the bulge, stop imagining his hard cock and all the ways I’ve been intimate with it in the past, and take his hand, letting him pull me to my feet. His arm slips around my back and he pulls me into his chest. God, I can feel his fucking dick against my hips.

“Victoria,” he says in my ear. “You’ve missed me,” he says, switching to the other one.

I wait for what comes next. It’s a thing he always did with me when I was on the verge of something. Panic, or sadness, or whatever comes with all the things we went through.

He would stand behind me, both hands squeezing my shoulders. His mouth would go to work on my earlobe, and my neck, and my mouth. Then his fingers would dip down into my bra to squeeze my breasts and pinch my nipples.

We’d always have sex after that. Always. It drove me crazy.

But before I can say anything—No, we’re not doing that, or, Back off, mister, I’m not yours—he backs away and he’s heading for the door, tugging me along.

I sigh, missing his attention so much in that unused moment.

Mr. Corporate is the latest Mister on the chopping block. Someone is trying to bring the Misters down once and for all. Their lives have been anything but normal since the incident in college. The incident that almost got them prosecuted for rape. Each Mister has felt they were somewhat responsible for what happened many years ago. They are unaware of how the other Misters are involved. They were ordered not to talk about it with anyone, including with each other. Over ten years later they are being forced to confront the past to save their futures.

Each Mister holds an intricate piece to the puzzle. Someone is trying to destroy their lives. This time the Misters have much more to lose.

Weston Conrad’s life didn’t change much after the incident. He had an airtight alibi. His girlfriend was with him that night. He was able to move forward in life and pursue his career as a head hunter. He wasn’t able to hang onto his girlfriend. Their on again off again relationship has finally reached it’s expiration date.

Weston was recruited to hire a high profile executive. The finder fee is over seven million dollars. He thought he had the client in the bag. He didn’t count on his ruthless ex girlfriend vying for the same finder fee. Victoria will do anything to get this money, including lie, cheat, and steal. What she didn’t consider is that her feelings for Weston would change the way she does business.

As the two compete and end up stranded on a remote island during a hurricane, their priorities change. They are in survival mode. It is also quite clear that someone has set them up. Their lives are in even more danger than from the elements. Someone wants them dead.

This is when Mr. Corporate’s past comes into play.

There are two Misters to go before the truth becomes unraveled. It will be interesting to see who’s controlling the strings and why.

J. A. Huss is weaving a brilliant tale with five books that build the story. I love it.
