All her rules are about to change…

THE RULE MAKER
The Rule Breakers #2
Jennifer Blackwood
Releasing January 16th, 2017
Entangled Embrace

Ten
Steps to Surviving a New Job:

1. Don’t sleep with the client. It’ll get you fired. (Sounds easy enough.)
2. Don’t blink when new client turns out to be former one-night stand.3. Don’t call same client a jerk for never texting you back.

4. Don’t believe client when he says he really, really wanted to call.

5. Remember, the client is always right—so you can’t junk punch him when he
demands new design after new design.

6. Ignore accelerated heartbeat every time sexy client walks into room.

7. Definitely ignore client’s large hands. They just mean he wears big gloves.

8. Don’t let client’s charm wear you down. Be strong.

9. Whatever you do, don’t fall for the client. You’ll lose more than your
job—maybe even your heart.

10. If all else fails, see rule number one again.

~ Coming January 16th ~

He scrubbed
his palms over his face and rested his elbows on his knees. “This was not how I
saw this night going.”
“Big
Valentine’s Day plans?”
He lowered his
hands and looked at me like I’d just claimed I single-handedly caused the storm
raging outside. “I didn’t even know that was today. Does this mean we’re each
other’s valentines by default?”
I scoffed.
“Not a chance.”
He chuckled.
“Always so blunt. I like that about you.” He quickly cleared his throat as if
he hadn’t meant to say that. “Well, non-valentine, looks like we’re going to be
stuck here a while. Have anything in mind?” he said.
I decided
against packing on another insult. He was being nice, and this sure as heck
beat staring at the wall the rest of the night. “My form of entertainment is at
6 percent battery, so I’m open to suggestions.”
“Mine is fully
charged. Want to watch something?”
“Sure.” What
else did I have to do? Before I knew it, I was sitting on the bed next to him, leaning
against the ornately carved headboard. Snow gusting against the window was the
only sound in the room as he searched for a show for us to watch.
So quiet.
Way too quiet.
I fidgeted
with my necklace, moving the small diamond back and forth on the chain. The
last time I was in bed with Ryder… I didn’t even want to finish that thought,
because it’d do nothing but make this situation worse. I chanced a peek in his
direction.

He chewed the
inside of his cheek, swiping through our options. “This is awkward, huh?” he
said.
“We’ve
achieved Urkel status.”
He chuckled
and scrolled through the show queue. “Would you rather watch Law
and Order: SVU
or Criminal
Minds?”
“That is quite
possibly the worst Would You Rather question ever asked.”
His eyes cut
to mine. “I didn’t know I was playing a game.”
“You’ve never
played it?”
He shook his
head.
Lainey and I
played this game all the time in college, and when we’d take road trips
together. She always came up with the grossest ones. “It’s simple. All you have
to do is ask the person which horrible thing they’d rather do. The harder the
question, the better. Like would you rather lay in a pit of snakes, or eat
questionably dead roadkill?” I pointed to his phone. “Oh, John
Tucker Must Die.
I like that one.
“Negative,
ghost rider.” He scrolled past my suggestion. “And what the hell does questionably
dead mean? Is it still twitching, or are we talking
suspicious cause of death?”
I shrugged.
“The interpretation’s up to you.”
“You’re
absolutely no help.” He swiped his thumb across his beard and contemplated. “I
guess I’d go with the snakes.”
“Okay, now
it’s your turn,” I said.
“Do I really
have to play? I thought we were picking a show.”
I shot him a
look.
“Fine. Would
you rather have me or Chewbacca as your valentine?”
“Too easy. The
spider.”
He put his
hand to his heart. “You wound me.”
“Stop being
such a baby.” I swatted at his chest and immediately pulled my hand back. Nope.
Would not go there. “Okay, would you rather not be able to see or talk for a
month?”
He answered
instantly. “See.”
“Right. You’d
probably go nuts if you couldn’t open that big mouth of yours.”
His lips
twitched. “You’re one to talk.”
“Excuse me?”
Okay, I did have a tough time keeping my thoughts on lockdown outside the
office, but that was my own cross to bear.
“Don’t even
try to play it off like you’re innocent.”
I’d dated a
lot of losers in the past, most who hadn’t even bothered to get to know me, but
even after only hanging out a few times, Ryder had me pegged. He was
perceptive. I saw the look in his eyes whenever I dealt with Jason. His attention
focused solely on me was unnerving. “Jerk,” I sputtered.
“Now I know
you’re holding back. You can do way better than that.” He scrolled through his
phone again. “How about Die Hard?”
“Are all your
show selections about death? I’m starting to worry I made a mistake coming over
here.” My lips pulled into a smile and I quickly extinguished it. God, I wanted
to hate him.
“Fine.” He
continued looking at the Netflix queue. “Would you rather eat sushi from a taco
stand, or lick an airplane armrest?”
“Good one.
Sushi.” I pointed to his screen. “How about 10 Things I
Hate About You?”
He shook his
head and chuckled. “Are all of your suggestions
going to not-so-subtly tell me you hate me?”
I smiled
sweetly. “Maybe.”
“Just think,
most people would find this to be a romantic escape. Two people, stuck in the
mountains on Valentine’s Day,” he said.
“We’re
Hallmark movie material, all right,” I deadpanned.
“Okay, fine.
How about The Walking Dead?”
“Your show
picking powers have been officially revoked.” I grabbed the phone from his
hand.
“Hey!” He
grabbed for the phone, and I held it out of reach. “You’re going to regret
that.” Within seconds he was on top of me, playfully pinning me to the bed, his
strong hands circling my wrists. Air evaporated from my lungs as our gazes
connected.
I was
immediately transported back to that night.
Tell
me what you want, Zoey. Tell me what you need from me.
I swallowed
hard. That was months ago, and those words still haunted me from time to time.
Because he did exactly that, gave me what I wanted and needed. Repeatedly.

Michel’s Review

What a great way to start 2017 with the release of Hollywood Prince by Kim Karr.

Brooklyn James is Hollywood Royalty. He was raised in the golden world of glamour and fame.  As a teen he was the reigning Prince of tinsel town because of his reality show featuring his life as a glamorous prince without a care in the world except for the next wave or the next party. His fame has made him a manwhore and womanizer.  On the surface he’s living the dream life.  In reality Brooklyn isn’t a prince.  He’s a man struggling to make a name for himself outside of his parents fame or the fame he acquired in his youth.  He’s working hard, paying his dues, and trying to find the perfect balance in his life.  He’s given up his manwhoring ways and settled into his life.  He’s trying to finish his movie script and pursue his dream of being a film writer.  Watching his brother, Keen and his best friend, Cam find love has changed the way he looks at relationships.  He wants what they have but he isn’t sure if he’s ready.  He has to fix his own life first.

Amanda Waters lived the life as the sheltered princess of the Waters family.  Her brothers protected her from the harsh realities of their family life.  Her father molded her adult life into something he wanted for her life.  She has followed all the rules, dated the right men, and chosen the right career until the harsh truth is revealed.  Suddenly she’s questioning everything about her life and her choices.  She needs to find out the real truth.  The only person that can give her the truth is her brother Cam.  She’s heading to California to confront her brother.

Upon arriving in California, Amanda finds that Cam is away on a getaway weekend.  His neighbor and best friend, Brooklyn is there to keep her occupied until her brother returns home.

Brooklyn and Amanda are both at crossroads in their lives.  They are both searching for something that seems out of their reach.  What starts out as a fun sexy, no strings attached relationship turns into something more.  For the first time in their lives they are both beginning to take control of their lives.  For the first time Brooklyn is falling for a woman.   Amanda is faced with the choice of choosing Mr. Right in New York or Mr. Wrong in California.

Once again Kim Karr had my complete attention.  I loved Brooklyn and Amanda’s journeys.  They were both lost souls who needed someone to give them that extra push in the right direction.  Not only did they develop a beautiful friendship, they also had the fairytale romance in many ways.  They found true love.

Damn the company.

 Excerpt

He still reminded me of a Mountain Man, and he appeared to be wearing the clothes that I’d thought were rags. His long, shaggy brown hair and thick beard hid most of his face. A shudder of apprehension ran through me.
He seemed just as ill at ease as he had been by the lake, his eyes darting around restlessly, but then he walked around to the passenger door and I lost sight of him.
When he reappeared, he was carrying a large dog, one that easily weighed 80 or 90 pounds. He must have been strong because he carried the weight easily. I recalled the thick slabs of muscle that sculpted his chest and arms when I’d seen him earlier. Yes, there was no doubt that he was strong, but as he held his pet, his hands were gentle.
I watched his chin bob, and I realized that he was talking to his dog.
Carefully, he set the animal on the ground and fixed a leash around its neck.
The dog immediately sat down and refused to budge. His coat was thick and looked glossy and healthy, his muzzle starting to gray. I guessed he was part retriever, part mastiff—large and solid. And heavy.
Ashley giggled as the man tugged on the leash, but the dog still wouldn’t move. The man stood still, looking at his pet, his hands on his hips, then he shook his head in defeat. Bending down, he scooped up the dog again and shouldered his way through the door into the office.
Now he was closer, I could study him in more detail.
His hair was a tangle of light brown with sun-blond lights, still uncombed, an off-putting mess of wild, crazy curls. His clothes were even worse now I could see him wearing them, unkempt and torn as if he’d given up, but they were clean. And when he stopped in front of Ashley, I caught the faint scent of soap and laundry detergent—no cologne. This man was a paradox.
Ashley smiled tightly from her position behind the reception desk.
“Mr. Winters and Stan, is that right?”
He nodded but didn’t speak, still holding his dog in his arms. His face was grim, as if he’d never smiled, never thought of smiling.
So this was the man who’d bought Old Joe’s place? I immediately felt guilty that I’d assumed he was trespassing and camping illegally. I didn’t know that somebody had already moved into the property. Technically, I’d been the interloper this morning. I felt like such a judgmental bitch. But he’d really scared me, and I hadn’t been thinking clearly.
“I’m so sorry,” Ashley said with fake sweetness, “but Dr. Petz, our male veterinarian, had to go out on an emergency visit. Dr. Andrews over there is available.”
He turned to stare at me and his body stiffened. I saw a flicker of recognition in his eyes before he dropped his gaze to the floor again. I thought for sure that he’d turn and walk out, but then he glanced at his dog and I saw the expression soften in his curious golden-brown eyes as he peered up at me and nodded slowly.
“Great!” said Ashley, her gaze glancing across to me. “I’ve got basic information from your email, but if you could just fill out this form and…”
“Maybe you’d like to bring Stan into the examination room, Mr. Winters,” I interrupted quickly. “He looks rather heavy.”
The man blinked twice, but carried the dog inside without commenting or even looking at Ashley.
“Rude!” Ashley said, not quietly enough, and although I agreed, I shot her a look and took the form from her.
She leaned toward me, her eyes wide as her voice dropped to an urgent whisper.
“I’ll keep my ears open, Dawn. He looks kind of weird. You know, serial killer weird.”
I pressed my lips together and followed my new client.

AP new - synopsis.jpg

Nina can’t let herself fall in love with the man she’s going to marry. Both of them have experienced the sting and sham of love and have no intentions of falling victim to it twice. Love is expensive—hate is free.

Three years. A million dollars. A solution to both of their problems. They planned it all, from the story of their first meeting to the date of their divorce. Nothing could go wrong.

But what they didn’t consider was chemistry, and Nina and Max have no shortage of it. After too many near-kisses, Nina convinces herself that hating Max is better than loving him, and the more she gets to know this soon-to-be-husband of hers, the more she discovers just how very much she truly, madly, and deeply . . . hates him.

This isn’t a love story. This is the other kind.

“Okay. So how do you think this is going?” Max tipped the broom handle between us. “You and me?”
My forehead pinched together. “You and me the plan? Or you and me the surprise?”
Max’s brow answered my question.
“And this topic is what you consider not-so-deep?” I nudged him and moved to finish stocking syrups.
“All I’m looking for is a simple estimation. Since we were just talking about school, give us a grade for how you think this is going.”
“A grade? Like A, B, C, D, F?”
“Exactly like that.”
I shook my head. “Did you have a rough day at work today? Lose an Olympic-size swimming pool of money or something? Are you needing your daily ego stroking to come from somewhere else today?” When I glanced back at him, I found Max leaning into the door he’d relocked, arms crossed and waiting.
“Our relationship is unique,” he said. “Intricate. I’m asking not because I need my ego stroked, but because I care. If I need to make some changes, I’m willing to. Anything you need, whatever you want, that’s what I’ll give you. But first, I have to know how I’m doing.”
If a man could get a woman pregnant from a piercing stare and a collection of words, I’d just gotten myself good and knocked up. With twins.
“You know how it’s going,” I said, trying to focus on the syrups instead of what—or who—I wanted to focus on.
“I know how I think it’s going. I’d like to know how you think it’s going.”
My mouth went a little dry. Having these kinds of talks was hard for anyone—they were next to impossible for me. “Well, you haven’t gone and confessed your undying love or scared the hell out of me by asking me to be your baby mama, so you’re keeping your promise to take it nice and slow.” When he gave a mini bow, I rolled my eyes. “Not to mention you aren’t too shabby in the sack, you don’t leave dirty dishes in the sink, and you share the remote well.”
Max’s face went flat. “Not too shabby?”
“Oh, please. You know how good you are. Stop fishing for compliments.” A flush crept up my neck as I thought of the most recent evidence to support that theory.
A slow, crooked smile spread across his face. “I want a grade.”
“Like comprehensive? Or broken down by category?” I was stalling, and Max knew I was stalling.
“You’re making this way too difficult,” he grumbled.
“An A minus,” I said abruptly. “I’d give you an A minus.”
“Why not an A plus?”
I kept my head turned so he couldn’t see my smile. Only Max Sturm would be outraged by an A minus. “Because there’s always room for improvement. And I wouldn’t want it to go to your head, that’s why not an A plus.”
The door creaked when he shoved off of it. He made no move to tame the way he was checking me out, leaning into the counter as I organized the syrups. “Something’s definitely going to my head.”
My gaze roamed his zipper region. “I was talking about the one north of your neck.”
“And I’m talking about the one at the end of my dick. My, at present, hard dick, thanks to you.” He came up behind me, fitting himself against my backside as his hands moved around to work on my jeans.
“Max,” I protested, my eyes closing a second later when his dick nuzzled deeper into my backside.
“Nina. I’m taking your body. Here. Now.” His chest pressed into my back as he lowered my zipper. “Accept that so we can move on to the next part.”

Michel’s Review

Some say there is a fine line between love and hate.  Both of these emotions can be all consuming.  Hate Story by Nicole Williams is not a story of two strong emotions battling to overtake the other.  It is a beautiful love story of two strong willed individuals on a journey of self discovery.  Two people finding themselves as well as finding the perfect partner in life.

Nina agreed to marry Max so that he could obtain his green card for one million dollars.  They have a three year contract that is perfectly synchronized to the very last detail.  Max wants his green card so that he can remain in the United States the rest of his life.  Nina needs the money to keep her grandmother’s home.  It’s the perfect arrangement.  Neither want a real marriage.  Neither of them wants to fall in love.  In fact, Nina doesn’t believe in love.  Love has let her down her entire life.

As Nina and Max embark on their arrangement they soon find they sincerely like one another.  They find their attraction slowly building into something more.  Something that isn’t in the contract.  Once they admit their true feelings it changes everything.  Their contract is null and void.

Once they have broke the contract it has broken both of them.  Now they have to face the real truths of their lives.  They have to learn to deal with their real emotions.  They have to choose their future.

Nicole Williams once again delivered an emotional love story that leaves the reader swooning.  I highly recommend reading Hate Story by Nicole Williams.

Synopsis

The stunning conclusion to the New York Times Bestseller.

There’s one, unbreakable rule in the game.

Stay collected. Compartmentalize. Think your next move through. Never let your heart dictate your tactics.

The heart is impulsive.

The heart makes bad decisions.

The heart doesn’t see the long game.

Because the heart may have decided to get Adam back, but when the endgame comes, the heart’s going to be the first thing to break.

Excerpt:

Adam pulled me to the next door to the left. It opened into a small theater with about two dozen red velvet seats with lights at the bases.

“There was this guy in Marine Park who collected vintage pornography. When he died, one of the clubs uptown took it and preserved it. When all the clubs merged, they reels moved here.”

“We’re going to watch porn together?”

He guided me down an aisle. “Yes.”

“How adventurous of us.” I smiled at him, flirting.

He smiled back a little, but was reserved in his enthusiasm. We sat in the center.

“Now I’m sorry I wore pants,” I said.

The lights dimmed to black. I took his hand, and he paused before dropping our entwined fingers in his lap.

“I’m trying to illustrate something. I want to talk. So I’m glad you wore pants.”

The bullseye countdown appeared. Adam leaned his head back, closed his eyes, and exhaled. They went back to the screen as if all necessary strength had been gathered.

She’s blindfolded, arms tied above her. He’s lashing her.

“These are from the late sixties,” he said as the picture flickered. There was no sound. “The stuff here is very real. There’s no retouching. It’s 16mm, so there’s none of the porny quality of video.”

He’s wrapping her tits in black tape.

“I see,” I said.

He was right. The frame was raw. The beauty of her submission wasn’t on the film. I didn’t feel as though I was watching something. I felt as though I was witnessing something.

He’s clamping her nipples until they’re elongated meat.

“This is called tit torture,” he said matter-of-factly. “Every step of this was worked out beforehand. You’re not seeing the dozen things he’s not doing.” He twisted in his seat to face me. He was backlit, so I couldn’t see his expression. “Give me an adjective. What do you think of it?”

“Is this your thing?”

“Answer me first.”

I loved him. I wanted him. I’d get on my knees and submit to him.

“It’s gruesome.”

“It’s not my thing.” He sat back and faced the screen. The light flickered on his face. “There’s so much more though.”

He’s putting the business end of a hairbrush in her anus.

I’ve never seen skin that shade of purple.

What is she eating?

In all of them, the submissive may have cried or screamed, but she always came back for more. She kissed the Dominant’s hand or looked at him admiringly. Her lips did a dance of gratitude.

Thank you.

Ten minutes in, I couldn’t hold my questions anymore. “Why are you showing me this? You don’t want to wrap me in duct tape.”

“Someone might. I want you to know what it looks like first.”

“Adam Steinbeck!” I stood and put my fists on my hips. “You fucking shit!”

He crossed his legs, shrugging as if it wasn’t his fault. He just worked here. “What?”

“You’re trying to scare me.”

“I’m trying to inform you.”

“To hell with this. I’m going out there right now and getting someone to fuck me with a wooden spoon.”

I stomped down the aisle. He grabbed my arm. I spun around to face him. Behind him, a woman was getting choked, and every time she breathed, the ecstasy on her face was unmistakable.

“Let go of me,” I growled.

“Look at it. You weren’t meant for this.”

But he was? But Serena was? Was I too good? Too weak? Too strong? None of that mattered.

“You love me. Say it, Adam.”

“I’m keeping the love I have left.”

“Why can’t you love a submissive?”

“I don’t know.”

“You can’t love weakness?” I asked.

“I said I don’t know.”

“You’re unworthy of a woman who would kneel for you?”

“What do you want out of me?”

He was hurting me. I jerked my arm away, and he let go.

“I want you to leave me for a reason. A real reason. I left you because I was unhappy. I thought we were incompatible. You’re leaving me because you asked me to submit to you and I love it. You’re leaving me because you love me a little but not enough. What is all that? It’s not a reason.”

“I’m protecting you!”

“You’re protecting you.”

Excerpt

Watching as Elli crossed the ice, saying hi to everyone she passed, Mekena knew she had to go. Standing, she wobbled a lot, but she still made it to the entry to the ice. She could do this. It wasn’t that hard. Just like walking—on water. No big deal.
Oh, God, she was going to die, and everyone was going to see it.
Swallowing hard, she stepped out on the ice and figured she could ride the side of the boards to him. Elli was already there, gushing over the kids and kissing all over the guy Mekena assumed was her nephew. And holy hot genes. Dark hair, bright blue eyes, and a jawbone that could slice the ice. He was beautiful, just like his uncle and his momma. Tall, too, and thick. Obviously a hockey player. That should have given her a little more confidence to skate over there, but instead, her fingers dug into the siding as she slowly made her way toward them.
When Elli looked up, Mekena let go of the sides and waved. “I’m a little slow. I’m coming!”
Elli said something to Ryan, whose eyes lit up when he looked over at her. As he detangled himself from the kids that were trying to climb him like a wall, she figured he was coming to help.
Oh, no, that was embarrassing.
No, she could skate. She had it!
Letting go of the siding, she went with ease. And at first, things were good. She was skating! But as well as it was going, it suddenly went very bad. She felt her knee bend funny and then her body start to fall. And as the ice came into view, she let out a cry, waiting for the ice to break not only her glasses but her nose too. Maybe her teeth.
But she didn’t fall.
No, instead, someone had her by her hips, pulling her up and to her feet.
“Whoa there, girlie. I thought you knew what you were doing?”
Markus.
Everything inside her went hot. Not from embarrassment but from pure, burning desire. Trying to catch her breath, she looked up at him, his eyes so dark, his mouth so close to her cheek as he smiled.
Crap. Crap on a cracker.
“Markus.”
“Yup, it’s me,” he said, grinning as he stood her on her feet. “Saving your life.”

Michel’s Review

This time of year may be hectic but it is also joyful.  Most people are taking the time to reconnect with family and friends.  They are celebrating life and making new goals for the new year.  The release of Face-Off At The Alter by Toni Aleo was perfectly timed.  I felt like I was reconnecting with my old friends from The Assassins series and The Bullies series.

It all begins with Lucy Sinclair and Benji Paxton’s wedding. The wedding has turned into a week long event.  It’s time for family and friends to reconnect and enjoy one another’s company.  Markus Reeves is heading home to Nashville from Florida spend time with his adoptive family, the Sinclairs.

Markus Reeves has spent the last couple of years in Florida playing hockey for the Assassins farm team.  His life has spun out of control and his dreams are no longer within reach.  He always dreamed of playing in the NHL for the Assassins.  His game has tanked since his move to Florida.  He hates his coach, his teammates, and his life.  The only thing he’s looking forward to is returning home to Nashville for Lucy’s wedding.  He’s looking forward to spending time with his friends.  He also knows it’s time to face the music and face the girl he destroyed.  The girl that sent his life in a downward spiral.

Lucy’s wedding must be his good luck charm.  Ellie Adler has come to Jacksonville.  He’s being brought up on conditional terms.  It’s his second chance and opportunity to prove his worth as a player and teammate.  He’s going to do everything in his power to make a place for himself on the Assassins team.  He’s going to become the man he was supposed to be before his world imploded two years ago.  The man he was before he destroyed Mekena Preston.

Mekena Preston has returned to Nashville to photograph Lucy and Benji’s wedding.  She left Nashville two years ago after Markus and her sister betrayed her.  She’s not the same girl she once was.  Her heart is full of anger and hate.  Taking this job means she will have to face Markus Reeves.  Although she is not looking forward to seeing him, this time around she is in control.  This time around she is going to push back.

Mekena and Markus were both destroyed when he slept with Skylar Preston ( the Bullies series).  The betrayal destroyed them both as individuals.  Two years later they are both finally going to get closure.  They can finally move on in life.  They can finally reach their full potential.  Fate is once again going to intervene and change both of their destinies.  Fate is going to right some wrongs but will come at another high price.

Toni Aleo once again did a wonderful job writing a powerful and emotional book about love, life, friendship, and family.  The pure honesty is what makes her books beyond exceptional.  Readers have become deeply connected to all her characters and their stories.

Synopsis

~ Sometimes, one degree is all that separates you from the one you were meant to be with ~

Wes Bergman was sex on a stick.

We’d been circling one another our entire lives, mingling at the same clubs… attending the same events…sharing mutual acquaintances…yet we’d never actually met.

Until . . . we both boarded a Windjammer Cruise in the Caribbean. And it was like meeting my long, lost best friend for the first time. I hadn’t ever connected with a guy that way before.

But Wes had a girlfriend. So, when the week was over, he walked off the ship, unknowingly taking a piece of my heart with him.

Now, over a decade later, newly divorced, I’m the proverbial fish out of water. Dating has totally changed. Apps. Swipe left. Swipe right. Catfishing. Men my age want two things: twenty-five-year-olds—like my ex’s new child bride of a wife—or just a quick hook-up.

After a string of bad dates, I finally did something I never thought I’d do. I had a hot one-night stand with a really handsome guy I met online who didn’t even know my real name.

Turned out Mr. Fling is a big shot for my company’s newest client. And just my

luck, that client’s CEO is none other than . . . Wes Bergman.

Now I’m separated by one degree again from the man who stole my heart.

And Mr. Fling could destroy my chance of what I want most –

A Do-Over with Wes.

Release Boost + 5 Star Review + Giveaway : Drunk On Love by S. L. Scott

Title: Drunk on Love
Author: S.L. Scott
Genre: Sexy Romance Comedy Standalone
Release Date: December 21, 2016

Blurb

From New York Times Bestselling Author, S.L. Scott, comes this downright delicious peek into the male anatomy… er, mind of Hardy Richard. There are only two rules:

1. Don’t get too close.

2. Don’t fall in love.

Correction: Don’t ever fall in love. I don’t need the baggage of relationships. Life should be simple, easy, uncomplicated.

The problem I’m faced with is, if I really believe life should be that easy, that uncomplicated, and that simple, then why am I still thinking about a woman I met on a random Monday at the bar? A girl who was never a Gimlet, and always a Paloma. Yep, I called it all wrong last night and I’m starting to wonder if my heart will pay the price.

I might have broken rule number one, but rule number two remains firmly intact. For now. Sort of. Okay, maybe rule two hasn’t been broken, but it’s definitely been bent.

Tracey’s Review

As a dude, who’s not a hairdresser, I know too much about women’s hair. But in my line of work, it’s a bonus…No matter what their hairstyle, the one thing all women have in common is sex. Yup, sex. You might say that sounds trite, even obvious, but it’s true. There’s a basic need, a desire that the right cocktail with the right opportunity at the right time can release, making the most put together woman come undone.

So says Hardy Richard, owner and proprietor of Hardy’s Hideaway, a gem of a bar that caters chiefly to, well, women and their needs. Hardy and his cadre of hard-working, handsome, and, oh, so, helpful barmen make the Hideaway one of the most popular and sought-after watering holes that you never knew was there. And is just what brings in the woman in search of a Gimlet, and maybe some more, that will rock Hardy’s world in ways that he never anticipated.

It is no secret that I am a big fan of author S.L. Scott. After all, Jack Dalton of the Resistance is still one of my favorite book boyfriends ever. Suzie has a way of writing from the heart, of spinning a tale that draws me in from the first page and keeps me hooked all the way through. DRUNK ON LOVE, her latest, is a fine example of her ability to create a story that I can escape into, and emerge feeling absolutely, well, love-drunk.

I’m going to say right up front that Hardy is, without a doubt, my favorite of Suzie’s men since my Jack. He is completely self-aware, living life completely on his terms, and doing it with gusto. He knows exactly what people are looking for when they come to the Hideaway, and is more than happy to meet their needs.

They’re all here for the same reasons…The Hideaway is happy to provide both. Our customers are left satisfied because we’re more than just bartenders. We’re therapists. We’re life coaches. We’re teachers. We’re lovers. We’re sexual healers. Here, under the dim lights, we’re gods. My team is gifted, leaving our patrons smiling and wanting more…Our motto is threefold. The customer is always right, they always come, and they always come back. Goals we strive for night after night.

When Gimlet Girl shows us, Hardy is intrigued. Happy to help her with whatever she’s looking for, he’s more than a little surprised to find that she’s more of a Paloma girl after all. And once he’s had a taste of her, he’s the one wanting more. For a guy that doesn’t do relationships, Hardy is all in, which takes him a bit out of his comfort zone. But the best thing about Hardy? He’s not a quitter, and watching him change only makes him that much more endearing and, yes, hot. I think that he surprises himself with the lengths that he’ll go to to get the girl, and his story had me devouring this book like it was my favorite adult beverage (margarita, heavy on the top shelf tequila, if you want to know…).

I’m hoping that DRUNK ON LOVE is the beginning of a new series, honestly, because I would love to see so much more of these folks. While the rest of the guys will never top Hardy in my heart, they are a bunch that bear getting to know. So, Suzie, if you’re reading this, MORE of the Hideaway, pretty please! In the meantime, 5+ tipsy, topsy-turvy, man of my dreams stars for this book. Totally one of my favorite reads of 2016, and a great one for your TBR. I guarantee, you will LOVE this read, so grab it and go. You’re welcome. ❤

The Italian

Beyond The Mathews Family Series – Book 2

By Beverly Preston

Buy: Amazon / Amazon UK / Amazon CA / Amazon AU

Synopsis

The Italian is a standalone and book two in the Beyond the Mathews Family Series.

No ties.
No expectations.
No risks.

Antonio Giovanni, a fifth-generation winemaker in the rolling hills of Tuscany, is the epitome of temptation. Tall, dark, and handsome with an accent sexy enough to leave a trail of women’s panties in his wake. The man wears charisma like a fine silk suit…flawless and molded to perfection in all the right places, leaving just enough mystery to make you wonder what lay beneath the faultless exterior.

Hope Tidwell, a world-renowned sommelier, is a strong independent woman who fights to have control over every aspect of her life. She makes her own money, her own decisions, her own happiness, and her own mistakes. Her existence doesn’t need to be validated by a man; she refuses to ask for anything except an orgasm, and even those she can manage on her own.

Relationships for most people are as natural as breathing. However, Hope and Antonio are two players who master the art of seduction and the fear of emotional intimacy. When tragedy strikes close to her heart, Hope is fated to do the one thing that terrifies her most. Destiny reveals the biggest gifts often require the greatest sacrifices.

Tracey’s Review

Rising above a past that she’d rather forget, Hope Tidwell has crafted a life that she adores. A well-known and successful sommelier, Hope lives a commitment-free life, traveling and doing the work that she loves, involving her heart with no one but her beloved younger sister. When tragedy strikes, and Hope finds herself at a crossroads, life begins to unfold in an unexpected but wonderful way.

When I think of author Beverly Preston, the first word that comes to mind is “family.” Her Mathews Family books have created a world full of the love and unbreakable bonds that come with being part of a strong, tightly-knit clan of wonderful people. Her characters are relatable and likable, and it’s always a pleasure to pay them a visit. THE ITALIAN, the second book in her Beyond the Mathews family series, focuses on people that, while related to the Mathews, are outside the family proper.

I was hooked from the first page of THE ITALIAN. Hope is a tough cookie, having had to raise herself and her sister due to the lack of involvement and nurturing from their mother. As a result, she’s happy to live a life free of emotional ties, enjoying instead the semi-casual relationships that she cultivates in her travels for her work. When events arise that shake up the life that she loves, Hope finds herself halfway around the world, and working closely with Antonio Giovanni, one of the men that Hope has known and shared time with.

Antonio. Oh, my goodness. This man is not perfect, but he’s pretty darned close. He is a man that refuses to let Hope hide behind her fear of commitment, that steps up and delivers in a BIG way, desiring only to make Hope feel safe, loved, and desirable. Beverly has written a man that is honest, forthright, secure in himself and what he wants, and is determined the make sure that what he wants comes to be. I have to say, Hope doesn’t stand a chance against him, and it is absolutely delicious seeing him work his magic.

THE ITALIAN brought all of the feelings, the warmth and safety of a loving secure relationship, the importance of strong friendships, and, oh, yes, the utter and incendiary sexiness of one certain hot Italian man. (I have to tell you, the love scenes, Oh.My.Goodness. Fan? Check. Ice water? Check. Don’t read this one without them!)

Beverly really touched my heart with this book, and has helped me end the reading year on a definite up note. THE ITALIAN, an easy 5-star read for me, is one of my 2016 favorites, and I happily recommend it as an addition to TBRs. I look forward to the next installment in this new series, and can’t wait to see what she’s got for us in future.
