Kit and Noah’s rock star romance is finally here in the newest addition to Nalini Singh’s Rock Kiss Series!!

Synopsis

From New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh comes the next contemporary romance in the Rock Kiss series…

Kit Devigny could have loved rock guitarist Noah St. John. Their friendship burned with the promise of intense passion and searing tenderness…until the night Noah deliberately shattered her heart.

Noah knows he destroyed something precious the night he chose to betray Kit, but he’d rather she hate him than learn his darkest secret. All he has left is his music. It’s his saving grace, but it doesn’t silence the voices that keep him up at night. Chasing oblivion through endless one-night-stands, he earns a few hours’ sleep and his bad boy reputation.

When a media error sees Noah and Kit dubbed the new “it” couple, Kit discovers her chance at the role of a lifetime hinges on riding the media wave. Wanting–needing–to give Kit this, even if he can’t give her everything, Noah agrees to play the adoring boyfriend. Only the illusion is suddenly too real, too painful, too beautiful…and it may be too late for the redemption of Noah St. John.

ROCK REDEMPTION TEASER 2

Excerpt

Kit groaned at the sound of her phone. Reaching out blindly toward the nightstand, she hurled mental curses upon herself for forgetting to turn it off so she could catch some uninterrupted sleep before her four-a.m. makeup call.

It’d be fun and great for her career, her agent had said when recommending Kit take the superhero flick. Coming off two serious and emotionally wrenching projects, Kit had taken Harper’s advice and jumped on board the high-budget, high-octane venture. Unfortunately, Harper had forgotten to mention the four hours it would take to put her into the head-to-toe makeup required for the role. Daily.

“What?” she snarled into the phone without checking to see who it was.

“Hey, Katie.”

Every cell in her body snapped wide awake. Lifting her eyelids, she just stared at the ceiling through gritty eyes. Her heart thumped, her throat moving convulsively as she swallowed. She hated that he could still do this to her, hated it, but her visceral response to Noah wasn’t something she could stop. She knew because she’d tried for the past two years and three months.

“Noah,” she said flatly. “Do you know what time it is?”

“Two fifteen,” he answered.

Kit should’ve hung up. God, he’d hurt her. So much. But there was something in his voice that had her sitting up. “Are you drunk?” One thing she knew about Noah: no matter his bad-boy rep, he was never wasted. He might give a good indication of it, but look closely and those dark gray eyes were always sober.

“Probably.” A silence, followed by, “I just wanted to hear your voice. Sorry for waking you.”

“Wait,” she said when he would’ve hung up. “Where are you?”

“Some dive.” He took a deep breath, released it in a harsh exhale. “I’m sorry for being an asshole. I wanted to tell you that. I don’t want to go without saying that.”

“Noah,” she said, a horrible feeling in her stomach. “Where exactly are you?”

“The Blue Flamingo Inn off Hollywood Boulevard. Far, far, far off.” He laughed, and it held no humor. “It has a neon sign of a blue—surprise!—flamingo that’s flashing right through my window. Looks like someone stole the curtains.”

Having already grabbed her laptop, which she’d left beside the bed after answering some e-mails before sleep claimed her, she found the Blue Flamingo Inn. But Noah was already gone, having said, “I love your voice, Kit,” in an oddly raw tone before hanging up.

He didn’t pick up when she called back.

“Damn it! Damn it!” She shoved aside the blanket under which she’d been buried, having turned the AC to ice-cold as she usually did at night. Shivering, she tugged on a pair of jeans and an old sweatshirt over the panties and tank top in which she’d gone to sleep.

Pulling her black hair into a rough ponytail to keep it out of her eyes, she ran through the house, phone in one pocket, credit card and driver’s license in the other. In the kitchen, she grabbed her keys off the counter and shoved her feet into the tennis shoes by the door that led to the garage.

She was in her car and on the way to the motel three minutes after Noah had hung up, mouth dry and an ugliness in her gut. “Please be okay, please be okay, please be okay,” she kept saying, the mantra doing nothing to calm her down, but at least it kept her mind focused.

She wanted to call Molly and Fox, or the others in the band, but no one was currently in the city. Schoolboy Choir had completed the final show in the band’s hugely successful tour just over two weeks earlier. Day after that, they’d all gone their separate ways to recharge and regroup.

“Much as I love these guys,” David had said with a grin that reached the dark gold of his eyes, “I’ve been looking at their ugly mugs daily for months. We need to go blow off some steam separately before we start snarling at each other.”

At the time, Kit had nodded in understanding, having had that same experience while working on location for long periods. Tonight, however, she wished the others were all here, not scattered across the country, because something was very wrong with Noah.

“Noah doesn’t do drugs,” she told herself as she drove as fast as she dared, not wanting to risk getting pulled over and further delayed. “He isn’t the kind to—” She couldn’t say it, couldn’t even think of Noah ending his life. “No,” she said firmly, her hands white-knuckled on the steering wheel. “Noah isn’t like that.”

Michel’s Review

Readers have been anxiously awaiting the release of Rock Redemption by Nalini Singh.  Rock Redemption is the third book in the Rock Kiss series.

Readers were introduced to the mysterious and dynamic lead guitarist of Schoolboy Choir, Noah St. John, in the first book.  Noah is the typical rock god manwhore on the surface.  Beneath the surface is a very tortured soul.  Noah is his own worst enemy.  He pushes away the people that mean the most to him.  He doesn’t know how to love.  He doesn’t know how to accept love.  He does value his friendships and brotherhood with the guys in the band.  They are his chosen family.  He also values his deep abiding friendship with movie star Kit Divegny.

Kit met Noah when they both were starting out in their careers.  Kit came from a privileged background but wanted to do things on her own.  She started her acting career like most starving actors do and paid her dues.  She paved her own path.  The one constant thing from the beginning to present day is her deep friendship with the guys from Schoolboy Choir.  She has a developed a very close relationship with Noah.  He has always supported her career, her choices, and encouraged to reach for the stars.  After years of friendship their relationship starts evolving into a more meaningful relationship.  It is leading to that once in a lifetime kind of love.  Noah can’t handle any relationship let alone a romantic relationship.  He does the unforgivable and betrays Kit in the worst way.  Not only has he ruined the chance of a beautiful loving relationship, he has also ruined his friendship.  He has lost his best friend.  He has lost the one person that would never betray him.  He has completely lost himself.

Noah has finally hit rock bottom.  In drunken desperation he calls Kit out of the blue.  Kit has finally moved on in her life and her career is taking off into the super stardom realm.  Noah coming back into her life could be a disaster in many ways.  It could destroy her. She doesn’t know if she can survive it again. But Noah is in trouble and she can’t turn a blind eye.

As this story evolves it is gut wrenching.  It focuses more on Noah and his troubled life.  It is his journey to finally letting go of the past and learning about love in every aspect.  He will have to learn to open his heart up to those he holds dear.  He will also have to learn how to show how he feels.  He will have to earn Kit’s trust and prove to her that he is worth taking a chance on.

This book mainly focused on Noah and Kit’s troubled friendship.  It took a lot to repair because Noah is truly one messed up individual.  The real romance didn’t evolve until the later part of the book.  Readers only got a small fraction of the romance that Noah can be capable of.  I am hoping there will be a novella featuring Kit and Noah now that they are a couple.  I would love to see how Noah has grown as an individual as well as a soulmate.

Nalinin Singh didn’t pull any punches where Noah was concerned.  She showed the ugliness of his soul.  At times I felt like I hated him.  She allowed him to be completely exposed so that when he started to heal we could fall head over heels for the man he was meant to be.

I highly recommend the Rock Kiss series. Each member of Schoolboy Choir has a story to tell.

Excerpt

“I loved you.” She choked back a sob as the words she’d held back for nine years spilled out. “I never thought for a moment you were responsible. I had faith in you, but you didn’t have the same faith in me. You broke my heart.”

Zane rubbed his forearm across his face, then pitched his bottle over the fence and into the field. “I fucked up. Big time. I’ll spend the rest of my life regretting it. Hell, I regretted leaving the moment I drove away and I’ve regretted it every day since.”

Part of her wanted to go to him, wrap her arms around him and tell it him it was okay. It had felt so right when he kissed her. Like coming home. Maybe they could pick up where they left off. Erase the past. But the other part of her knew she couldn’t erase the pain of losing him, of losing hope and faith and love. She couldn’t erase the soul-destroying marriage to Mark or the years of hardship of raising Ty alone. They had changed. She wasn’t Evie anymore. She was Evangeline. And Zane wasn’t Zane. He was a Sinner, an outlaw, and he lived in a different world.

“I’d better go,” she said. “I have to be at work early, and I have babysitter coming over to look after Ty.”

“Maybe I should come over . . .”

Evie shook her head. “Let’s take it slow with you and Ty. One thing you two have in common is that neither of you is good with change.”

“What about you and me?”

Her mouth went dry, and her stomach churned. “There isn’t a you and me outside of Ty. I have my life, Zane and you have yours. We don’t have anything in common anymore.”

“And you and Viper do?” His voice dropped to a growl, so fierce and low the tree frogs stopped croaking, silencing the night. “How’d you wind up with that piece of shit?”

“He came to the shop for some paint work. I didn’t know much about the Jacks so I thought he was just another biker. He was charming, intelligent . . . probably the most interesting guy I’d met to since coming to Conundrum. When he came back a third time for a touch-up on his fender, he asked me out. Bill told me who he was and said I should be careful.”

“Probably made you want him more,” he said quietly.

“Maybe it did. Maybe I wanted to prove to myself I could handle a man like him—the way I couldn’t handle Mark—and that I didn’t need anyone to save me. I made a decision to take control of my life when things went wrong with Mark. I realized I’d spent too much time chasing a dream of finding someone to look after me when really I needed to look after myself. But that’s not all it was. I liked him, and I was flattered by his attention. I enjoy his company. I’m not ashamed of that.” She turned back to the house and Zane grabbed her arm, spinning her back to face him.

“You’re done with him. I don’t give a fucking damn how you feel about him, or what you’ve got going on. He’s a vicious, ruthless, coldhearted bastard. I know you got that wild in you, and maybe that’s why you’re with him, but he’s dangerous and I won’t let him near you or my son.”

Evie shook him off, anger warring with confusion, her emotions battling against her aching want for the only man she’d ever loved. “Maybe the reason I was with him is because he reminded me of you.”

Wrong thing to say. Eyes glittering, he lunged for her, clasping her wrist in his warm palm, pulling her to him. “Then be with me.”

“I can’t.” Her throat tightened and she had to force the words out. “What we had is broken and it can’t be fixed. I can’t do this with you again. I just couldn’t bear to be with you and have you disappear again. And I’ve moved on. I don’t need you that way anymore.”

He wrapped his arms around her, buried his face in her neck. “What we had is still there. I can feel it and I know you feel it, too.”

His warmth seeped into her skin, his arms strong around her. Yes, their chemistry was still there. She could feel it pulsing through veins, an arousal so fierce she could feel it in her fingers and toes.

“Kiss me.” Zane’s voice was hoarse, tight. “Kiss me and tell me you don’t feel what I feel. Kiss me and tell me you want him and not me.”

Unable to pull herself away, her mind clouded with desire, she acquiesced to his demand. Twining her fingers through his hair, she pulled him down and kissed him. Zane groaned and squeezed her so tight , she could feel the press of his buckle against her stomach. His tongue tangled with hers and he took over, returning her kiss with an intensity that left her breathless and made her knees tremble. She ached for him, wanted nothing more than to strip off his clothes and drown in the heat of his body.

“I wanna see you, my sweet Evie. I wanna bare your body, lick every inch of you, feel your skin against mine. I wanna be inside you so deep you forget everything but me.”

Evie took a quick glance to each side to make sure they weren’t in view of the neighbors, but with the trees around them, and a field to the back, there were well hidden in the shadows. And although she knew she should refuse him, walk away and hold firm to her resolve, she licked the taste of him off her lips and whispered, “Yes.”

He slid down the straps of her dress, undid the catch of her bra, dragging it over her arms, baring her breasts to his heated gaze. “Ah, God,” he whispered. So fucking beautiful.” He cupped her left breast in his palm, kneading it gently as he ravaged her mouth with sensual kisses. White hot heat sizzled down to her core and she moaned.

“I remember that sound,” he murmured. “I remember everything about that night in the forest, the softness of your skin, your breath on my cheek, your hard little nipples, the slickness of your pussy. I remember what it feels like to be inside you. That night ruined me for other women, Evie. I’ve only ever wanted you.”

He held her arms behind her, pinning her wrists with one hand while he kissed her breasts, sucked gently on her nipples, tasting, devouring her. She tugged against his grip, wanting to touch him, slide her hands over his broad chest, work her fingers through his hair, and caress those broad shoulders. But he held her fast, and the restraint aroused her, made her more wanton, more desperate to have him inside her.

“Tell me, Evie.” His voice dropped to a husky growl. “Tell me you want me.”

“I want you,” she whispered. “It was always you.”

A dog barked. A man shouted. She heard the low rumble of a quad in the field and suddenly the fog in her brain lifted. She was a mom. Ty was sleeping inside. Her neighbors were sleeping only fifty feet away. She’d just ditched the man she’d been dating for the last four weeks. What was she doing only hours later in her backyard with the man who had broken her heart? A man who had walked away and would no doubt leave her again. A biker. Living the biker life.

Steeling herself, she forced herself to meet his gaze. “But when I gave up hoping you would ever come back, I let you go. I’m sorry, Zane. I’m not ready to open that door again.”

He released her so abruptly she almost lost her balance, but if she’d thought to push him away, she was gravely mistaken.

“Whatever it takes for you to trust me, I’ll do.” He wrapped his hand around her neck and leaned down to kiss her cheek. “If you want me to go slow, I’ll go slow. If you need gentle, I’ll be gentle. I will do what it takes, however long it takes. But I won’t let anyone else have you. You are mine, Evie. You’ve been mine since you were eight years old. And now that I’ve found you again, I’m not gonna let you go.”

Michel’s Review

Sarah Castille kicked up the Sinner’s Tribe Motorcycle Club series to full throttle. This dynamic biker series has captured the readers attention.  The latest release, Sinner’s Steel takes the club to a whole new level of danger.

A war has been brewing between the Sinner’s MC and the Devils Jacks MC.  After the Jacks tried to kill the Sinner’s president and a former Sinner betrayed the club, the tension has boiled down to murder.  The Sinner’s are hunting the man, Axel , that betrayed them. When they finally find him they are in for some other surprises and a downright war.  This time the war isn’t only going to be between the clubs.  It has become very personal for the Sinner’s VP, Zane “Tracker” Colton.  It is going to be a fight for his woman.  The one he claimed as a young man and lost because of a messy past that left him one of the most wanted men.  He will kill to get his woman back.

Zane left Evie behind after their one youthful romantic night together.  He had always been her best friend and one of the only people she could depend on.  After their fateful night together , she never saw him again until ten years later.  Ten years too late.  Ten years of thinking he killed her father.  Ten years of abandonment when she needed him the most.

Evie has become a strong independent woman.  She is a single mother supporting her son.  She gave up her college opportunities and became a paint detailer at Big Bill’s Custom Motorcycles, Paint, and Artwork.  She has no allegiance to any MC.  She is an artist doing her job and paying the bills to support her son.  She has done well for herself.  She has also caught the eye of the Devil Jacks MC president, Viper.  She has been on a few dates with Viper and he has been the charming gentleman… until he finds out she has past connections with the Sinner’s.

Evie is shocked when Zane comes to her shop hunting a Jack.  She hasn’t seen him in ten years.  She doesn’t want anything to do with him now but knows she has to share her secret with him.  He is the father of her son.

Zane wants Evie and Ty in his life.  He wants Evie as his old lady.  He has never stopped loving her.  He will be damned if he is going to let Viper take her away now that he has found her again.

Let the war begin.  Evie and Ty may end up being causalities of the war.  Viper will show his true colors.  Zane will show his true heart.  It may be too late but he will die trying to show Evie his heart.

Sinner’s Steel is the most intense book of the series.  It had a bittersweet love story that kept the reader rooting for Evie and Zane.  Ty was a great kid that was the best of both of them.  I really enjoyed this book!

EXCERPT:

He was going to make some coffee when he heard a car drive up. Quickly stowing his gun in the back waistband of his pants, covered by the sweater, he looked through the window to the driveway outside. Next to his burgundy Hummer, a white sedan was parking. Out stepped Marcy Gelland.

He opened the front door and leaned into the frame, arms crossed, until she looked up and saw him.

“Oh. It’s you!”

“Yes, Miss Gelland. I do own this cabin—at least for a little while longer, anyway.”

Her oversized satchel was slung over her shoulder. She had on a pair of forest green recycled ankle gardening boots, and a big white, silk shirt with a pocket stitched over one breast, covering long, tan slacks that were going to be way too warm in a couple of hours. She’d done her hair up in a clip, and she wore no makeup. He liked her better that way.

“You following me now?” he asked, not moving from the spot, daring her to try to gain entry into his private domain. “I told you I wasn’t going to sell this place.”

She turned around, glancing at the tree line before her eyes at last landed on the thatched roof of the cabin. Then she tilted her head and spoke to him. “Beautiful here. I don’t blame you a bit.”

“So, you’ve seen it. Now, you can go, Miss Gelland—or is it Mrs. Gelland?”

Her lips parted slightly, one side turned up, amused. “Marcy. You can call me Marcy. Unlike you, I’ve never been married.”

“Touché.” The sting in her comment hurt like a pinprick, but it sucked him back into his impending court battle with Connie. He dropped his arms at the sides, suddenly not knowing what to do with them. “Well, that’s it. Show’s over. I have nothing else left to offer, unless you like strong coffee and scrambled eggs.”

“I love strong coffee and scrambled eggs. I’m afraid I can’t make either one successfully.”

He didn’t know why he said it, but before he could take it back, found himself whispering, “Well, perhaps you’re better at other things.”

“I should hope so,” she said timidly. “I guess, according to you, I rob people for a living.”

“Ah, an honest woman who admits her vices. How refreshing. Do you ask for forgiveness before or after you fleece them?”

At first, she didn’t smile, just stared back at him. She wasn’t afraid, which was such a turn-on. “I solve problems. Most of my day is spent solving other people’s mistakes and problems. And I’m damn good at it.” She narrowed her eyes, as if taunting him to say something nasty.

Lucas was struck with the inability to fight with her. Whatever was going on, he couldn’t dislike her, and he wanted to, perhaps needed to.

Marcy still didn’t move an inch. There she was in the middle of the fuckin’ forest, way far away from anyone who could hear her scream. He was trying to stand up to her, trying to hate her and everything she stood for. He wanted to blame her for what his life was going to become. She was a willing accomplice to his wife’s selfish attitude.

She remained standing, as if waiting for instructions. Defiant, almost petulant, daring him to cave in and show his ungentlemanly side. She hugged her file folder and oversized purse , looking way more desirable than she probably knew. But when she broke a smile and stepped closer to his perch, she finally dropped the hand with the folder, catching it at the side of her hip, and giving him the view of her chest he’d wanted to see. Although he wasn’t going to let her catch him at it, his peripheral vision took in the whole lovely sight of her.

She glanced up, recognizing something, and gave him a playful, narrowed look. “I think we got off to a bad start. I’m not here to cause you any pain, or to rob you. Mr.—”

“Lucas. If I’m calling you Marcy, you’re calling me Lucas.”

“Yessir,” she said as she straightened her spine, her pert little lips doing that pouty thing.

What a blessing she was. What a fresh piece of something he’d never had and wanted desperately.

“Like I was saying, Lucas…”

Her large brown eyes smiled up at him, and his heart melted. He hadn’t realized he was so starved for mature female attention, the kind that wasn’t tipped or bought and paid for.

“I think you misunderstand my intentions. I’m not here to sell your cabin. As a matter of fact, I’m not sure I can, or that Connie has the right to order either of them sold. That will have to be worked out in a settlement agreement between the two of you.”

He could see that the longer he watched her speak and focused on her lips, the more talkative she became. Words were nervously stringing together, and all he could think of was her light pink tongue darting out behind her white teeth, and the way she licked her lips and nervously bit her bottom one.

“You haven’t taken my suggestion and gotten an attorney yet, have you?” she finished and took in a deep breath.

“That was only a little over a day ago, Marcy.” He was thinking to himself that his perspective was changing by the minute. “But I’m all ears. Perhaps you can recommend someone for me.”

The double meaning seemed to make her blink very slowly, considering what he’d said. She quickly looked downward toward her ridiculous boots.

“Where’d you get those?” he asked with a chuckle.

“Costco.”

“No socks. Can’t go into the woods without socks. You’ll get ticks on your ankles, or worse, traveling up your pant legs.”

Marcy cocked her head and frowned then gave him that full gaze that did him in. She forged her response. “You going to continue to defend the perimeter, or am I invited in for those scrambled eggs and strong coffee? Or have I said something to cause you to change your mind?”

There was an exchange between them without words. It fell to him to speak up first, perhaps acknowledge what was going on inside him, hopefully inside her, too. He knew when a woman liked what she saw, and she was definitely transmitting it. “On the contrary. But enter at your own risk.”

He let his words linger there until she dropped her gaze again. Stepping aside, he turned and opened the door for her to walk into his life.

Going Deep

By Cari Quinn

Boys of Fall Series

Buy: Amazon / B & N / ITunes / Kobo

Synopsis

Two is hot…three is explosive.
The last wedding former high school linebacker Colt Bennett attended was his own—to the woman his brother is now marrying. But tequila, romance and regrets make a bad combination, and the next thing he knows, he’s half passed out in his ex’s best friend’s truck.

That Paige Wilcox hates the sight of him is incidental, right?

At least until Colt calls his best friend and business partner, Drake, to give him a ride home, and somehow the three of them end up in Paige’s bedroom. There’s absolutely no reason why he should consider having a threesome…

Other than he’s been denying wanting both of them for months.

With Coach Carr on the mend and the rest of his high school football team back home, Colt’s starting to find his true place in his hometown. Except now he’s got even bigger problems than recriminations about the ex he’s long over. He’s falling for her best friend, and maybe even for his own…

Oh, and boys—and a girl—touch in this book. A lot.

5Star

Tracey’s Review

Colt Bennett is tired. Tired of being seen as just a player, of keeping up the front of the happy-go-lucky guy, of the pitying looks from folks because his ex-wife just married his brother. But what’s a guy to do? Enter Paige Wilcox, best friend of Colt’s ex-wife. When circumstances bring Paige, Colt, and Drake Mondell, Colt’s best friend and business partner, together, things get very interesting very quickly. Sometimes being in the wrong place at the right time brings the greatest, if unexpected, rewards.

Five-Alarm Hotness Alert! Oh, my goodness, folks. Having long been a fan of Cari Quinn, I was fully expecting to have my socks knocked off by GOING DEEP, her latest installment in the Boys of Fall series. And, oh, my word, she most certainly does NOT disappoint. This book starts off hot and reaches scorching in no time flat.

There is no shortage of ‘fan yourself’ moments in GOING DEEP. These three jump right into one of the hottest hook-ups that I’ve read, and it does not stop. All the sizzle aside, though, these are three people that have been looking for the one, or ones, that will help them be free to be themselves, and they’ve finally found it in each other. What starts as a purely physical journey into forbidden territory quickly becomes much more.

I really love that, while Cari has written her signature sassy and independent woman in Paige, we get to see that there is something deeper, a side of her that has just been waiting to emerge, and it takes both Colt and Drake to make that happen. And she’s the spark that the two men need to finally come into their own in every sense.

This is not your typical love story, but I could not have enjoyed it more. GOING DEEP is absolutely 5+-panty-melting, heart-melting, feel good stars for me, and needs to be on your TBR stat.

She glided toward me with a sexy smile on her luscious lips.

“Hey, you.” Her voice was low and husky. Sexy as fuck.

Both our work schedules had been crazy and even when I’d called Eva to just have dinner with me, she’d made excuses why she could not see me. As tempted as I was to show up at her door again, I didn’t want to upset her and risk her refusing to accompany me to the event, so I got stuck in at work putting in more time than I had in the last few weeks.

“Fuck, I missed you,” I said as it hit me like a bullet between the eyes.

Red lips and long sweeping eyelashes were complemented by dangling earrings that shone as the light caught them. I took her hand in mine and kissed her fingertips before spinning her around so that I could admire all of her.

I nearly choked when she turned her back to me. The dress dipped to just above her ass, the fabric draped in such a way that it begged to be touched.

“You like?” she purred, turning her head so that she could peer seductively at me from under her lashes.

“I’m speechless. You look . . . so utterly fuckable, I just want to tear that dress off you with my fucking teeth,” I admitted.

“Haha. It took me hours to get ready. We have an event to attend, remember?” She raised a perfect eyebrow at me, smiling smugly. “And you look pretty dashing yourself.” She stroked my chest, smoothing out my dress shirt. “Hmm, a bowtie. That’s sexy as hell.”

Her fingertips brushed the edges of the black silk and then along my jaw line, causing my blood pressure to rise a few degrees. She stood on her toes and planted the softest kiss on my lips. Her perfume snaked its way to my nostrils and turned my mind to mush.

I frowned, not sure how I felt about her wearing that dress. Jealousy swarmed my gut and found a resting place in the pit of my stomach. I swallowed hard, trying to rein it in and act maturely.

“I’m going to be the envy of every man there.” She smiled knowingly. Fuck. This was doing my head in. “I will kill any fucker who tries to touch you. You are mine only. Remember that.”

 5Star
Lis Review

“Tormented” is the continuation of the story of Eva Ryder and Harrison Summers. Thrown together by the fact that Eva’s brother and Harrison’s sister are a couple, they really didn’t seem like a very likely fit when we first got to know them in book 2 of this series “Unchain My Heart”. Harrison is dark, broody, mysterious and full of a desire for one thing: revenge against the bikers who killed his first wife and unborn child. Eva works for her father in the music business, a classy, in-charge businesswoman who wants more than just sex from the handsome cop; but since she is the sister of a biker who belongs to the club that he believes killed his loved ones, Harrison has a very difficult time letting this relationship be anything more than just sex.

Yet, here they are, still together. And in this book, we take the journey with them as they explore that relationship. It grows in intensity to the point where both realize how much they mean to each other. It’s more than lust, it’s more than scratching the itch. Slowly but surely they learn to open themselves to the possibility of need.. of desire.. of love. Harrison demands Eva’s submission, which she gives him willingly. They soon come to understand that by giving each other something they want, they gain so much more. Eva feels safe with Harrison, Harrison feels emotions again and both realize that they are working toward the healing they desperately need.

Yet Harrison’s reputation as a heartless, uncaring hatred-filled cop bent on gaining revenge at any cost, precedes him. When Eva takes him to meet her father, things unravel in a big way. Harrison’s darkness overwhelms him and he abandons Eva, at the exact time her ex, the revered Senator Parker, comes back into her life to claim her as his own. Eva feels that sacrificing her happiness to save Harrison is the only option she has. Harrison realizes just what Eva means to him and must battle the darkness within him to save her. Despite his profession, he’s failed at saving his wife and child, failed at saving his sister’s baby, so when faced with having to save this woman he’s come to love, he vows to be successful this time. Their conflicts are real and the resolution is not without tragedy.

With this book, Jani Kay has really upped her game. This story is gritty, emotional, and realistic in every way. She doesn’t sugar coat the evil, nor does she give us a romance viewed through rose colored glasses. What she does do is make these characters ones we want to shout at sometimes, cheer for at others. She has come so far as an author, and this book shows the depth of understanding of her characters and their fight to get to the life they desire. For those who’ve read the series, you won’t be disappointed, although you will be surprised at Harrison’s decision regarding the motorcycle club he vowed to destroy. For those new to Jani Kay’s biker series, jump right in to the crazy MC world of Ryder and Jade, Harrison and Eva, and all the members of the Scorpio Stinger MC

Hudson pored over the dossier, trying to find something, anything, that might explain what the hell was going on. Had the past few days been an act, waiting for the perfect out? Or had it been a final good-bye, fucking each other senseless just to purge it out of her system? Had Allie realized that no matter what his zip code, he still wasn’t good enough? He gripped the document in his hand to avoid punching his fist through the tinted glass. He hadn’t even had a fighting fucking chance to talk her out of it.

“Mr. Chase.” Max’s voice cut through the rhetoricals and Hudson’s laser-sharp eyes darted to the rearview mirror. “The plane is on standby and the crew is ready to depart as soon as we arrive. ETA, eight minutes.”

Hudson checked his watch. “Thank you.” He took a deep breath in an attempt to downshift his nervous energy into focused calm, but his need to find Allie overrode all logic. If she thought she was walking without hearing him out. . . . Well, news flash, she was wrong. So fucking wrong.

After going through the airport’s private security entrance, the Mercedes shot down the tarmac and around the fat turn that lead to the hanger housing the Chase Industries plane. The car came to an abrupt stop inside, its tires squeaking against the highly polished concrete floor. Hudson exploded out of the vehicle. He didn’t give a shit if he had to fly halfway around the world to do it; he was going after her. Winning Allie back was a necessity, and if this was the way she wanted to play it, he was all fucking in.

All I Want

Chapter 1

Zoe Stone had tried on everything in her closet and not only did her room now look like an explosion in a mattress factory, not one single item of clothing had worked for her.
She was still standing there eyeing the carnage when her sister, Darcy, appeared in the doorway, arms loaded with clothing. “Got your 911 freak-out text. Here’s all the stuff I’ve ever borrowed from you.”

“You mean stolen?”

“Tomayto, tomahto.” Darcy dumped the entire pile of loot in the only space available—on top of the slightly tubby Bernese mountain dog snoring in the center of Zoe’s bed.

“The pretty little black dress of yours is in there,” Darcy said. “You should absolutely be wearing that for your date instead of the granny dress you’ve got on. Seriously, how old are you, eighty-five?”

She’d just had the first anniversary of turning thirty, thank you very much, but Zoe looked down at herself. Her floral print dress was soft and clingy, fell to just past her knees, and hid a multitude of sins—such as the fact that she’d been stress-eating her feels all week. “It’s not that bad.”

“Zoe, you could walk into any Denny’s before five o’clock and get a discount.”

“I like this dress,” Zoe said, “and so does Oreo.”

Oreo, the aforementioned Bernese mountain dog, cracked open an eye and looked up at Zoe with love and adoration. “See?” she said, ruffling the dog’s big head. “And not that I have time to change anyway, but I don’t see what’s wrong with this outfit.”

“Absolutely nothing,” Darcy said, “assuming that you don’t care if you ever get laid again. And for God’s sake, stop taking fashion advice from a dog who rolls in bear poo and thinks he smells good.”

Panting happily, Oreo smiled up at the both of them.

Through the open window came the sound of a vehicle pulling up. Darcy moved to the second-story window and peered out. “Looks like your blind date’s here. What’s his name again?”

“Newman Taylor.”

“Well, Newman’s in a black Jeep with the top off. Not his top, the Jeep’s top, but still very nice—Whoa.”

“What?”

Darcy’s nose was glued to the window now. “Holy crap on a stick—he’s hot for a guy named Newman. Way too hot for that dress you’re wearing. Quick,” she said, waving a hand at Zoe. “Exchange it for the LBD.”

“I’m fine in this,” Zoe said. Maybe because she couldn’t wear the LBD; she hadn’t shaved her thighs—her own little insurance policy against making any rash decisions tonight such as getting naked. No way would she be tempted knowing she had hairy thighs. “And get away from there and stop spying on him.” But then she moved to the window next to her sister and sucked in a breath because Darcy was right, Norman was hot. Dark hair, a little wavy, a lot wind tousled. Black shirt that fit him well enough to define broad shoulders. Dark jeans. An easy gait that said confident male.

Butterflies took flight low in her belly and she pressed a hand to it. “Oh boy.”

“And I bet he’s got a six-pack, too,” Darcy whispered. “Maybe even an eight-pack. I’m going to need you to remember every detail for me.”

For Darcy, abs were a requirement in a man.

But Zoe had learned a lot for a woman who’d just had her thirtieth birthday—again. She had a completely different list of requirements. Honesty and kindness. That was it. Easy to remember and simple. But she’d also learned that nothing about men was simple.

“I wonder what color his eyes are—” Darcy broke off as the guy stopped on the path to the house and unerringly looked up at the window where the two of them stood staring at him.

With a commingled squeak, they dropped to the floor.

Afraid he was missing some fun new game, Oreo barked happily and leapt off the bed and right on top of them.

“Oomph.” Darcy pulled the silly dog in for a hug. “You big lug. You need a diet.”

Zoe pushed Oreo’s tail out of her face. “Think he saw us?” she asked, panicked.

“Nah,” Darcy said.

Zoe let out a relieved breath. “Really?”

“No.” Darcy grinned and sat up. “He totally saw us.”

Oh for God’s sake. The guy’s a dentist, she reminded herself. By definition, that meant he most likely was a people person, right? Right, she decided. And him being a people person was a good thing since one of them needed to know what they were doing.

She and Darcy—and Oreo—crawled away from the window and stood.

“Feels a little like old times, doesn’t it?” Darcy asked, dusting herself off. “Remember when we sneaked out of the house to do that midnight full moon climb up White Eagle with the Connelly brothers? We climbed out the window and got caught by Grandpa and were grounded for the rest of the summer.”

“That was you and Wyatt,” Zoe said. Their brother had always been able to find trouble. “I never got grounded.”

“That’s right. Wyatt was way more fun than you.”

Zoe slipped into a pair of flats and Darcy rolled her eyes.

“What’s wrong with the flats?” Zoe asked. “You wear flats all the time.”

“Yes, because I have a spinal injury that makes me want to drop to the floor and curl up in a ball whenever I wear heels,” Darcy pointed out. “You don’t have such an excuse. Plus you have legs a mile long that look amazing in heels, which makes me hate you just a little bit.”

“Flats,” Zoe insisted.

“Fine. So what do we know about this guy?”

“He’s a dentist from Hennessey Flats,” Zoe said. “Karen set me up with him, he’s her neighbor.”

“The Karen who does your hair, the Karen who’s been married and divorced three times?” Darcy asked.

“Yeah, so?”

“Sooooooo,” Darcy said, “don’t you think if her neighbor was hot, she’d date him herself, if not make him husband number four?”

Well, crap. She hadn’t thought of that.

“Plus . . . a dentist?” Darcy asked doubtfully.

“What’s wrong with him being a dentist? At least he’s gainfully employed.”

“Nothing’s wrong with it at all,” Darcy said reasonably. “If you want to sleep with a guy whose hands have been inside other people’s mouths all day long. Do you know how many germs that is? A million. A million trillion.”

Zoe shuddered. “Great. Thanks for that. Don’t you have somewhere to be?”

“Yep,” Darcy said, but moved back to the window. “You got a reprieve; he stopped to take a call.”

Zoe grabbed her purse and turned to Oreo. “Hold down the fort for Mommy, okay?”

Darcy snorted. “If a bad guy showed up, he’d hide in your closet.”

This was probably true but the big, goofy dog was the only home security system she had right now. In the past few months both Wyatt and Darcy had moved out, Wyatt to live with his fiancée, Emily, and Darcy to live with her boyfriend, AJ.

Zoe had told herself she was good with that. Sure, she missed bossing them around as she’d been doing since the dawn of time because one, their foreign diplomat parents had never seemed to notice that they’d had children, and two, well, Zoe kind of just loved to boss people around. But she wasn’t going to complain. Not when she’d seen just about every corner of the world and knew exactly how good she really had it right here in Sunshine, Idaho, alone or not.

Besides, with her newfound freedom she had a lot planned for herself. She wanted to fix up the house, although she admittedly had very little talent in that area. She wanted to learn to bake, even though she had even less talent in that realm. She wanted to date—where she had absolutely zero talent.

It might seem silly, but to a woman who’d been uniquely unlucky in her love life, Zoe had never gotten the hang of dipping her toes into the wading pool, especially with the audience of her siblings.

But now, with the house empty, it seemed like a perfect time.

Hence blind date number one. And she was ready. She wanted this. She totally almost did.

“He’s off the phone,” Darcy reported, back at the window.

Oh God. “I changed my mind,” Zoe whispered.

Darcy turned to her. “No.”

“Yes!”

“Then why did you tell everyone to set you up with blind dates so that you could get laid?”

“I never said that! I really wish you’d stop saying it.”

“What?” Zoe asked. “That you want to get laid?”

Zoe shot Darcy a look that went completely ignored. “And that’s not why I wanted to go out, I just wanted . . .” She trailed off, because what she wanted was much more complicated than her short list of man requirements.

She had a job she loved: being both a pilot-for-hire and giving flying lessons out of the small regional Sunshine Airport. Sunshine was a sleepy ranching town at the base of the heart-stopping Bitterroot Mountains and didn’t see a lot of action, but she managed to keep busy enough to eek out a living.

She had Wyatt and Darcy, whom she loved fiercely even though on any given day she felt like strangling and/or smothering them, but she was working on that.

And then there was the ancient—and some might argue dilapidated—150-year-old Victorian house that her grandparents had left the three of them, which she loved with the same fierceness with which she loved her annoying siblings.

Not to mention Oreo, whom she’d rescued not all that long ago and who’d quickly become her favorite family member.

So yeah, her life was good and she was happy, blah blah blah.

But something had been missing for a while now.

Fun.

She’d never given that particular emotion much thought before. She’d always been too busy keeping things together. But now that she had an empty nest, so to speak, she’d decided she was due. Past due—

At the knock on the front door downstairs, she nearly leapt out of her skin.

Startled, Oreo gave a loud bark and farted at the same time, and then as he did every single time this happened, he whipped his big head around to stare at his own hind end in surprise.

Darcy grinned. “Killer protective instincts, this one.” She rumpled Oreo’s fur. “I’m going to sneak out the back door, okay?” At the door, she blew Zoe a quick kiss and then smacked her own forehead. “Oh, almost forgot! Wyatt told me to remind you that his friend Parker could be showing up any time over the next few days. And change your dress and shoes!”

“I’m not going to change!”

Darcy sighed the put-upon sigh of a sister who thought she knew everything. “Fine. But do me a favor?”

“Anything if you’ll leave.”

“For once,” Darcy said, “just once, act spontaneously, okay?”

“Spontaneously?”

“Yeah, like if when you open the door and he’s even hotter up close, step outside your comfort zone and kiss him. Right up front, you know? Set the mood.”

Zoe just stared at her. “Are you completely nuts?”

“Well, obviously,” Darcy said. “But what does that have to do with anything?” She laughed, but then her smile faded. “Listen, most people spend a first date filled with anxiety, obsessing over the good-night kiss. Will there be one, won’t there be one . . .”

“I don’t obsess,” Zoe said.

“Are you kidding? You’re the queen of obsessing. So just get it out of the way, okay? Act spontaneously. And then relax and go with the flow.”

“I always go with the flow,” Zoe said.

Darcy laughed. “You go with the flow never. Try it my way? Just this once? Trust me, if there are sparks, you’ll thank me.”

“And if there aren’t?” Zoe asked.

“Then you don’t need to worry that that dress makes you look like a grandma.”

And then the whirlwind that was Darcy was gone.

Zoe took one last look at herself in the mirror. Okay, so maybe the dress didn’t scream sex, but that was okay. She wanted a guy to want her for her, right?

Right.

The knock came again. Solid. Firm. And the butterflies in her belly once again took flight.

Oreo’s, too, given that he gave another ear-piercing bark and scrambled to hide under her bed. All he could fit under there was his big, fat head, which left the rest of him sticking out.
She thought about joining him, but she’d never been much for hiding her head under the bed. So she made her way down the creaky stairs, her dress catching on her legs. Dammit. Darcy was making her doubt the choice, but it was too late now. Still, if the dress wasn’t going to make a statement, then she’d have to make do with her personality.

No pressure or anything . . .

Oreo followed her, hiding behind her legs as she opened the front door and got her first look at her blind date and . . . stopped breathing.

Damn. He was even better looking up close. Tall, and that leanly muscled build of his spoke of a man who worked with his body, not a guy who sat on a stool with his hands inside his patients’ mouths all day. He had sharp, light green eyes that crinkled in the corners, like maybe he spent a lot of time in the sun or, better yet, smiled a lot. A scar bisected his left eyebrow, giving him a dark and mysterious air. His square jaw had a slight shadow of growth, shown off when his mouth curved at her scrutiny, and this time her heart kicked hard because he also had a killer smile.

“Hey,” he said in a deep, warm masculine voice.

“Hey,” she mirrored back as Darcy’s words flashed in her head. Act spontaneously. Step outside your comfort zone.

Kiss him.

Heart pounding, Zoe let out a breath and moved forward, having to go up on her tiptoes to brush her mouth across his.

His lips were warm, firm, and yet somehow giving at the same time. She could have easily lost herself in him, but sanity returned and stepped back.

His smile got a whole lot warmer, but he didn’t speak.

“Thought I’d get that out of the way,” she managed. “It’s nice to meet you. I’ve never met a dentist without having to be in a dentist’s chair.” Great, and now she was rambling. She bit her tongue to keep it from running off with the last of her good sense.

“Nice to meet you, too,” he said. “Who’s the dentist?”

Zoe’s smile congealed and her heart stopped, just completely stopped. “Uh . . . you,” she said, “You’re the dentist.”

Still smiling, he shook his head. “Not me.”

Oh God. “You’re not Newman Tyler,” she whispered in horror.

“No,” he said. “But if your next guess is Parker James, you’d be right.”

Oh God. Wyatt’s friend, to whom she’d agreed to rent a room for the few weeks he was in town. She’d had mixed feelings about it, but Wyatt had vouched for the guy, and Zoe could really use the money for some desperately needed renovations. “You’re my brother’s old friend.”

“Not all that old, really,” he said, and looked at her mouth.

The mouth she’d kissed him with. Good God, I kissed him.

He grinned.

And . . . she’d said that out loud. Perfect. She covered her face. “I’m sorry, I—”

“Don’t be sorry,” he said. “That kiss was the best thing to happen to me all week.”

Behind her fingers she moaned a little, and he laughed at her. “Wyatt didn’t mention the welcoming committee,” he said. “He did say you might be grumpy. I like this better.”

She was going to have to kill her brother, but since he was out of town for the weekend at a vet conference, that pleasure would have to wait.

Maybe she could just move to Iceland. Iceland might be far enough to escape the humiliation, but probably not. Dammit. She’d kissed a perfect stranger, just accosted him on her doorstep. And . . . now her chest hurt. Maybe an impending heart attack would explain her behavior. Still holding her chest, she used her other hand to point at him to stay. “I just need a minute,” she said.

And then slammed the door in his face.

Behind her, in the living room, a brick fell from the ancient old fireplace. It did that every time she slammed the door. She’d tried to get someone out here to fix it but the contractor had wanted her to promise her firstborn, so she’d just decided not to slam the door anymore.

But she kept forgetting. Note to self: Stop kissing strangers, and stop slamming the door. She ran to the kitchen, where she’d left her cell phone, and pounded out her brother’s number.

“Yo,” Wyatt said in greeting. “Hear you’re going out with some dentist guy tonight. Watch where he puts his hands. You don’t know where they’ve been.”

Oh, for God’s sake. Her siblings gossiped like a pair of old ladies. “You’re a veterinarian,” she pointed out. “God knows how many worse places your hands are all day long. Maybe I should tell

Emily to watch where you put your hands.”

Wyatt just laughed. Since Emily—the love of his life—was also a vet, it had been an idle threat and they both knew it.

Zoe sucked in a deep breath. “Listen, about your friend, the one who’s coming to stay—”

“Yeah, Darcy told you he’s coming early?”

“Uh-huh,” she said with what she thought was a perfectly even voice.

But Wyatt had been seeing right through her for years. He was the only one who could. “Zoe,” he said in his most annoying brother voice. “You’re going to be nice. You promised. At least until I get back to Sunshine.”

“Yeah,” she said, and grimaced. “About that . . .” She closed her eyes. “I might be a little short on nice as it turns out.” Try hoochie-mama on for size . . .

“Shit, Zoe. He’s there already? What did you do?”

“Hey, I didn’t do anything.” Well, except kiss him.

And then slam the door on his nose . . .

Crap. “So . . . just how good a friend is this guy again?”

“Very,” Wyatt said. “We met in college when we were bartenders at the same place. On my first night, we got jumped at closing by five drunk assholes. Parker saved my ass. Haven’t gotten to see him in years, though, so don’t chase him away before I get home.”

She grimaced again. “Gotta go.”

“Zoe—”

She disconnected. “Ooops,” she said. “My bad.” She glanced at herself in the microwave glass door. “Go make nice,” she told her reflection. She turned to do just that, stopping to grab one of the cooling chocolate chip cookies she’d baked earlier. She was a great cook but she’d never been much of a baker. Determined to change that, she’d used one of her grandma’s recipes—Zoe’s first-ever batch that wasn’t from the grocery store’s frozen aisle. She took a bite . . . and nearly gagged. They tasted like baking soda.

She spit the disgusting thing out in the sink and rinsed it down. Okay, so her baking needed a lot more work.

And maybe your attitude.

Brushing the crumbs from her hands, she went back to the living room. She let out a heavy breath and once again opened the front door.

Parker was crouched low, chuckling over Oreo, who’d stayed outside with her new roommate and was sniffing at the guy’s proffered hand.

“He’s not much for new people,” Zoe warned. “And especially not much for men. He’s a rescue and—”

And nothing because Oreo jumped up onto his two hind legs and licked Parker’s chin.

Traitor.

Parker winced, but the pained expression vanished so fast Zoe wasn’t sure if she’d imagined it. “Are you hurt?”

“Cracked a few ribs a couple of weeks ago,” he said lightly. “Still a little sore, that’s all.”

“How did you do that?”

“Wrangling some big-game poachers.”

She stared at him. “Is that code for none of your business?”

“I don’t talk in code.” Mr. Mysterious rose to his feet, Oreo in his arms like he weighed nothing instead of one hundred pounds of tubby Bernese mountain dog.

“Careful,” she said. “You’ll hurt those ribs.”

“I’m fine.”

The statement was so alpha male to the core that she laughed. “Of course, you’re fine. You’re a man. Good to know you’re all equally pigheaded.”

Not insulted in the least, he grinned. “You have us all figured out, then?”

“Not that much to figure out,” she said.

Those sharp green eyes held hers. “Maybe I’ll surprise you.”

The words brought a quiver to her long-neglected lady parts, but she was pretty confident he couldn’t surprise her. But then he let Oreo lick his face again.

“A real watchdog you’ve got here,” he said fondly, and set Oreo down with one last body rub.

Well, damn, she thought reluctantly. She had to give him at least a few brownie points for loving up on her big old silly dog. “Yeah,” she said. “He’s a real killer.” She slid the killer a long look.

Oreo pretended not to see it, which only served to prove her point about men. . . .

“So,” Parker said straightening. “Can I come in yet or do you want to slam the door on my nose again?”

She felt her cheeks flush but met his gaze.

He held it prisoner with his warm, patient one and waited her out.

Great, he was also a man who knew the value of silence. She’d never met anyone like him, that was for sure. “Okay,” she said, deciding to pretend that the past few moments had never happened, hoping that he’d already forgotten it.

Denial wasn’t just a river in Egypt. . . .

Tracey’s Review

Zoe Stone has always been the one to keep things running smoothly. A lifetime of her parents being off doing their thing has made her the solid one, the one that made sure that her younger siblings had what they needed, that life looked somewhat normal. But now that her brother and sister are out on their own, Zoe’s ready for a life reboot. Parker James has always wanted to be the opposite of his parents, to live a life different from the one mapped out for him. An agent for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, he’s happy to go wherever the job takes him. There’s no room in his life for settling down…

Any time that Jill Shalvis releases something new, it’s an automatic top of the TBR for me. I will shuffle things around just so that I can read her books, because I love them so much. Having met and loved Zoe in previous books in Jill’s Animal Magnetism series, I was excited to see what was in store for her. As the eldest of three kids that have spent their lives in far-flung corners of the world due to their foreign service parents, Zoe has found that she loves being back home in Sunshine, Idaho. She’s finally found a rhythm to her life, a steadiness that makes her happy. When Parker shows up, that equilibrium is more than upset, and it isn’t long before her life is turned upside down.

Oh God. “You’re not Newman Taylor,” she whispered in horror.
“No,” he said. “But if your next guess is Parker James, you’d be right.”
Oh God. Wyatt’s friend, to whom she’d agreed to rent a room for the few weeks he was in town…
“You’re my brother’s old friend.”
“Not all that old, really,” he said, and looked at her mouth.
The mouth she’d kissed him with. Good God, I kissed him.
He grinned.
And…she’d said that out loud. Perfect. She covered her face. “I’m sorry, I-”
“Don’t be sorry,” he said. “That kiss was the best thing to happen to me all week.”

I love these two. Determined not to get involved, it isn’t long, of course, before good intentions are rethought, and all kinds of sizzle ensues. And, when I say sizzle, I mean hot as all heck. The chemistry between Zoe and Parker is the swoon-inducing, fan yourself type, and there is plenty of it.

One of my favorite things about reading one of Jill’s books is the sense of community, the family ties, the knowledge that the places she writes about are home, in the realest sense of the word. ALL I WANT has all of this, along with the suspense of the back story surrounding Parker and the requisite wonderful cast of supporting characters, making for an absorbing, can’t put it down read. 5+ stars, and a recommendation to grab this one, settle in, and enjoy.
