Love Online

By Penelope Ward

Release Date: August 27, 2018

****

Synopsis:

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy STANDALONE novel.

We met in the least likely of places. It started out innocently enough. I was “ScreenGod” and she was “Montana,” but of course, those weren’t our actual names, just the virtual cloaks we hid behind.

Logging in at night and talking to her was my escape—my sanctuary.

Her real name was Eden, I’d soon come to find out.

From the first time we connected online, I found myself transfixed.

She was an addiction.

At first, we knew nothing about each other’s real identities…and she was adamant that we keep things that way. Anonymity had no effect on our unstoppable chemistry, though. If anything, it allowed us to open up even more in ways we may not have otherwise.

Eden was funny, intelligent, gorgeous—everything I’d ever wanted in a woman.

But I couldn’t really have her.

I had accepted things would have to stay the way they were—until the day I found a clue that led me straight to her.

So I took a chance.

And that was when our love story really began.

New Release & 5+ Star Review: The Naked Truth by Vi Keeland

A Standalone Second Chance Romance Novel

By: #1 NY Times Best Sell-ing Author, Vi Keeland

TNT_FrontCover with black edge

RELEASE DATE: Monday, July 23, 2018

Synopsis:

It was just a typical Monday.

Until the big boss asked me to make the pitch for a prospective new client.

After two years on shaky ground at work because of my screw up, an opportunity to impress the senior partners was just what I needed.

Or so I thought…

Until I walked into the conference room and collided with the man I was supposed to pitch.

My coffee spilled, my files tumbled to the ground, and I almost lost my balance.

And that was the good part of my day.

Because the gorgeous man crouched down and looking at me like he wanted to eat me alive, was none other than my ex, Gray Westbrook.

A man who I’d only just begun to move on from.

A man who my heart despised—yet my body obviously still had other ideas about.

A man who was as charismatic and confident as he was sexy.

Somehow, I managed to make it through my presentation ignoring his intense stare.

Although it was impossible to ignore all the dirty things he whispered into my ear right after I was done.

But there was no way I was giving him another chance, especially now that he was a cli-ent…was there?

Michel’s Review

Vi Keeland has released another fantastic novel to add to her list of successful books. The Naked Truth is a unique second chance romance that is unpredictable and can stand completely on it’s own in the romance world. She has created two interesting characters that are smart, sexy, vulnerable, and completely human. Their past history is complicated and challenging. They have both made mistakes professionally and personally. Sometimes the lines are blurred but their hearts know exactly what they need.

Layla Hutton is trying to rectify her past professional mistakes and move up in the law firm she works for. When she is offered an opportunity to make a presentation to a new client, she jumps at the chance. It’s perfect opportunity to move forward until she meets the new client. Grayson Westbrooke may be an important VIP client for her law firm but he is also the reason Layla is trying to repair her reputable career. She doesn’t know how she can work with him but the decision is out of her hands. He has specifically requested to work with her and he will get what he wants.

Gray and Layla have a very complicated past and it’s hard for both of them to trust. They both made mistakes with each other which ended badly for them both. Gray wants a second chance. Layla is determined that Gray is not going to run over her heart and career again. Gray has groveling to do and he’s up for the task. Layla has to decide whether to listen to her heart or let ethics dictate their future.

Once again Vi Keeland created a strong male character that has charisma, intelligence, and a rare vulnerability. Her leading lady is strong willed and kind hearted with her own vulnerabilities. Together the two leading characters become a couple that is unforgettable long after the last page has been read.

I highly recommend The Naked Truth by Vi Keeland. It’s a swoon worthy second chance romance that will leave the reader with a book hangover.

EXCERPT:

I closed the drawer. “This is extraordinary.”

“It is. But don’t uncork any of the bottles. Oddly, the scents are still potent. Five years ago we were doing research on them when the box disappeared. Then, as we now know, it found its way into the auction.” He pointed to one. “I can attest to the fact that this bottle contains fumes with some kind of hallucinogenic properties. I experienced a wild vision when I made the mistake of taking a sniff.”

Something about the box, the stones on top, the thick glass bottles, the iron corners, even the drawer, gave me pause. As if it were familiar, yet not. The feeling had started back in the shop, before the theft, while it had sat on the counter. There’d been no time to explore those feelings before all the excitement intervened.

But now—

A thought raced through my brain.

Somehow I knew that there should be vellum labels affixed to the bottom of each bottle. How? Why? I had no idea. Only that it was true. I gently touched one of them, then stopped and looked at Antoine. “May I take it out, if I don’t open it?”

He nodded.

I had to see if I was right.

I lifted out the bottle. Underneath was a label. Discolored and deteriorated with age. A word, written in a sepia script, had faded but could still be read.

Belladonna.

I replaced the bottle and reached for another.

Even before I lifted it out I knew that under it would be Diospyros.

And I was right.

I removed a third, but before I could peek beneath it I heard the grating sound of stones being ground beneath the soles of shoes and turned to see a man leaping toward me. Antoine shoved the newcomer away, then shouted for me to grab the box and run. Before I could move, a booted foot made contact with my arm. Somehow, I kept hold of the bottle in my grasp, but I was driven down to the wet ground. I tried to recoil and go on the offensive but another blow found my brow.

Red hot pain exploded across my skull.

Then, nothing.

4.5 Star

Tracey’s Review

THE MUSEUM OF MYSTERIES came up on my reading list at just the right time. Romantic suspense is one of my favorite sub-genres, and when you throw in the elements of time travel and magic, well, I am all in. Authors Steve Berry and M.J. Rose have teamed up to write a novella that blends characters from their respective book series and given readers a delicious and mysterious story.

Casseopeia Vitt is the kind of heroine that I can get behind. She’s smart, savvy, and completely unafraid to take risks to find the answers that she wants. I have not read any of author M.J. Rose’s books, but I can’t wait to get into them, because she really knows how to write my kind of lead female character. And, although we don’t get nearly enough time with Steve Berry’s Cotton Malone, I’d like to see more of him, and look forward to reading more of Mr. Berry’s work.

My only complaint here? THE MUSEUM OF MYSTERIES, an easy 4.5 stars for me, is too short! I could happily have read more about these characters and their experiences with the artifacts from the museum, and would love to see them all again. Lovers of all things mysterious and slightly to the left of explainable will enjoy this book very much, and I highly recommend it.

New Release + Blog Tour + Excerpt: Strength Enduring by Carrie Ann Ryan

About STRENGTH ENDURING

In the penultimate novel of the Talon Pack series from NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan, an Enforcer must make the ultimate choice when it comes to a human woman with a secret she doesn’t know she holds.

Kameron Brentwood has only one thing on his mind: defeating the enemy. He doesn’t have time for a human woman who sets his teeth on edge and makes his wolf prowl. It shouldn’t matter that she’s his mate because he’s always thought that mating is a distraction. Yet as soon as he gets to know the woman, he figures out that there’s no hiding from the attraction he feels for her.

Dhanielle Coburn has always been on the outside looking in when it comes to the Talon Pack, but she’s not about to let fate and the moon goddess decide her path for her. If and when she takes Kameron as a mate, it will be her choice. Yet when she suddenly finds herself in the Pack’s inner sanctum, deeper than she ever thought possible, she has to fight not only her need for the man in front of her but also a hidden secret about her family she didn’t even know she had.

When the choice is pulled from both of their hands, the two will need to learn who they are apart, and who they can be together. Because there’s more to mating than a mark and a prophecy that has come back to haunt them. And even though they may be fated, the ultimate sacrifice just might take them both in the end.

EXCERPT:

“Never use the word mistake when it comes to me again. Whether we learn each other or are ready to walk away, it’s going to be both of our choices. Not fate. Not yours alone. Get your head on straight, and then we can talk.”

He let out a growl. “I have my head on straight, and it’s telling me that I need to put all of my energy into fighting against Blade. And I know that’s not the right thing to say, I know that I’m probably going to get burnt to ash if lightning strikes me down for my words, but I wasn’t counting on you, Dhani. I never thought I’d find a mate. Not really. And I don’t know what I can do about it now. Because as you can tell from that kiss, I want you, but I don’t know if I’m the best for you.”

Again, he hadn’t meant to be so honest, but there was something about the woman in front of him that made him want to bare the truth— and his soul. And he didn’t think it was just that they could be mates. He knew he was fighting this against his wolf’s wishes. He knew it was probably a mistake, but what if he gave in and she lost her life because of his decisions?

“If the other Pack comes after me, if they come after the Pack, you could get hurt. I don’t know if I could forgive myself for that.”

She let out a breath and shook her head. “I don’t know what to do either. Because, honestly? My life is in a state of flux as it is. Something’s coming, something’s changing, and I don’t know why, but I know it. I don’t know why I’ve always known.” She held up a hand when he would have questioned her further. Because, dammit, he wanted to know what she meant by those cryptic words. “One day, I might elaborate on that, but today is not that day. I’m not going anywhere, but then again, neither are you. And there’s no rule that says we have to jump into each other’s arms right now. One day at a time. Let’s just figure out how to live within the same wards, and then the rest will come. Oh, and Kam? That was a damn good kiss.”

And with that, she walked the opposite direction, leaving him with a hard-on and a muddled brain. He might think he knew what the right path was for him, but one moment in her presence and everything went out the window. Dhani was a temptation for sure, the only problem was, he wasn’t sure he was strong enough to fight that and what was to come. Not while keeping her safe.

EXCERPT:

Rye actually debated on closing the distance between them, picking her up so that her legs wrapped around his waist, and carrying her back into her bedroom to love her the way she deserved until she collapsed into a deep sleep. But delaying the inevitable wouldn’t be good for either of them.

That wasn’t to say it wouldn’t have been a nice distraction. The sexual tension between them hadn’t been alleviated in the least during the past few months that they had begun seeing each other regularly. Hell, half the time they barely got in the door before their combined tangle of clothing was hitting the floor.

Rye would have given anything for tonight to have been in the same realm as their usual trysts. Unfortunately— and he hated to admit this— there were some things that were completely out of his control.

“Grace, I’m having Justin meet us at the police station tomorrow morning at eight o’clock.” Rye automatically stood when he saw the immediate tension settle in her shoulders. He should have chosen option A. To prevent himself from closing the distance between them, he crossed his arms and remained where he was to avoid the upcoming backlash. She would no doubt fight him on this decision, but he refused to have her become a target for Brad Manon’s killer. “We’re going to clarify our alibis with the police and amend our statements. Our lies—”

“You mean my lie, don’t you?” Grace unfolded her arms and took a step forward, her soft baby blues darkening as she harnessed the anger at his good intentions. “All you did was cover for me after you learned the truth. We should leave well enough alone. After all, I’ve been cleared. There’s no need to rock the boat needlessly.”

Rye grit his teeth at her stubbornness. Why was she always making things difficult between them? It hadn’t always been this way.

“You call being targeted by a killer being in the clear? Someone obviously knows that we gave false statements to the police.”

“And that someone’s plan backfired, so he or she is back to square one.”

“No, square one would have been you telling Detective Nielsen the truth that night.” Rye ran a hand through his hair in frustration before venturing into territory that was bound to be even more explosive than coming clean with the police, but he needed an answer to something. And he needed it now. “I’ve had enough of this cat and mouse game, Grace. Tell me the truth. Why are you so hell bent on protecting me when I don’t need it?”

“Because I didn’t protect you when you needed it the most.”

EXCERPT:

Hes got Daisy with him when he approaches me in the park. I grin, reaching down to pet her because shes not working right now and her eyes are so bright and happy that I cant not.

Thought you were gonna call me,I say, fondling her ears and pointedly not looking at him.

Its such a pretty day,he says, Thought we could do this in person. Less miscommunication that way.

I flick my hair out of my eyes and straighten, smirking at him. What on earth could we possibly miscommunicate?

He grins and lets his gaze skate over me. I didnt dress up, just slid on some worn shorts and a tank top.

You want me,he says without missing a beat.

I arch an eyebrow. I dont want a relationship,I say, point blank, because I dont. Ive spent too many years in a relationship and Im not ready to go back to that. Ive liked the freedom of not being tied to one person, to having my empty house and no one to judge me for leaving my books in a messy pile by the couch.

I want to fuck Matteo, have wanted that since he walked into my call room behind Miguel weeks ago, but I have no desire to put myself into another relationship.

He shifts closer, hands braced on my hips. His mouth is damn close to mine, hovering just a little as he says, I didnt say you did. I said you want me.

So?

So…He licks his lips, the flick of his tongue making me want to press forward into him, lick him open. Sex. No strings, just friends, scratching an itch.

I blink at him. I didnt expect that. I expected an argument, a you deserve better than this and you want a relationship or this is unhealthy.

I make a face, dismissing Jax and my mothers voice. No strings?

No strings,he says, his voice slick and smokey, full of promise.

“May I get you something to drink while you wait for the rest of your party?” the waiter asked.

I would normally wait to see what the client did and follow his lead on alcohol. But tonight was not the norm.

I rubbed at my stiff neck. “I’ll take a vodka cranberry, please.”

I hoped it would help calm my nerves and release some of the tension in my jaw before I gave myself a full-blown headache. Taking out my phone, I started to scroll through emails to distract myself while waiting for my drink and dinner companion.

My head whipped up at the sound of Gray’s voice behind me. “Sorry I’m late.”

My heart unexpectedly fluttered, and I fought against the feeling of excitement. “Are you really? Because I get the sense you don’t have any manners after the way you interrupted me a million times today.”

He completely ignored my attitude as he took the seat across from me. “Traffic is a bitch getting downtown at this time. Next time we’ll have dinner at my place.”

“There won’t be a next time.”

Gray’s mouth curved into a smug smile as he snagged my gaze. “Sure there will. There’ll be plenty of next times. And eventually you’ll stop pretending you don’t enjoy my company.”

I hated that my body reacted to him. Right from the very start, we’d had a crazy chemistry between us that was difficult to dull.

I sighed. “What are you doing, Gray? Why did you come to my firm?”

He lifted the cloth napkin in front of him and laid it across his lap. “Isn’t that obvious? I need new legal representation.”

“At my firm? And you’d prefer that representation come from an associate instead of my boss’s boss—the head of our securities division? Or even from Pittman, who would gladly hold your hand and provide you whatever legal advice you need from his fifty-plus years of experience?”

“Loyalty is important to me. I want someone I can trust with my business.”

“And you’ve decided that’s me? An associate with five years experience who just got off probation with the Bar Association for violating attorney-client privilege?”

The waiter arrived with my drink. “Here you go, ma’am.” He turned to Gray. “May I get you something to drink? Or would you like to wait until the last of your party joins you this evening?”

“It’s just the two of us. I’ll have a Macallan, neat, please.”

“Coming right up.” The waiter walked around to the other side of the table and started to remove the third place setting.

I put my hand out, stopping him. “We actually do have another party coming, so you can leave that.”

“Very well.” He nodded.

Gray waited until the waiter was out of earshot. “I didn’t invite anyone else to dinner.”

I sipped my drink and offered a saccharine-sweet fake smile. “I did. Figured an important client like you should have more than one attorney to answer his questions.”

Just as I set down my glass, I saw the other man I was waiting for enter the restaurant. He scanned the room, looking for me, so I held up my hand and waved.

“Perfect timing. There’s Oliver now.”

Gray glanced at the man heading toward us and back to me. Instead of being pissed off, the jerk was amused. “That’s cute. You invited a chaperone because you don’t trust yourself with me.”

We hope you enjoyed this sneak peek of THE NAKED TRUTH.

She thinks she knows the truth about her history until a file in her father’s safe reveals she has sisters she never knew about. A family she’s never met. If her father wants to know his daughter is safe, it’s no problem and an easy way of earning a paycheck. Except Braden doesn’t count on falling for the sheltered Juliette. Watching her experience her firsts, getting an apartment, finding a job, meeting up with her lost sisters, soon Braden’s brand of protection becomes a little too personal. He’s mixing business with pleasure and lying to a woman he’s coming to care deeply about.

FREED-AN

Excerpt:

“You have a customer. First booth.” Grace tipped her head toward the front of the restaurant. ““And he’s a cute one. Single, too,” Grace said with a wink.

“So this is what small-town living is like? You know everyone?”

She nodded. “And everyone gets to know you. Now shoo.” She waggled her fingers, indicating Juliette should head up front and serve her customer.

She put a smile on her face and strode toward the first table, stopping short when she came upon him.

He had thick, brown wavy hair, with a strong jaw and hazel eyes, and Grace hadn’t done him justice calling him cute. He was downright gorgeous. A navy tee shirt accented his muscular frame. He had to work out, given the flex and pull of his biceps as he picked up a glass of water and took a long sip.

The men she knew in New York were flimsy compared to this hunky specimen. They wore suits their bodies didn’t fill out and had weak facial profiles. This guy was everything she didn’t know to want, but she was certain he’d be in her dreams from now on.

She swallowed hard and approached, gripping the coffeepot in her hand. “Good morning.”

He looked up and his eyes locked on hers. His mossy-green-brown gaze bored into hers and held on so long the stare felt like a warm caress.

“Good morning to you, pretty lady.”

At his gruff words, a warm flush rose to her cheeks. “Coffee?” she asked, lifting the carafe, her hand suddenly trembling.

“Sure. Thank you.”

She somehow managed to pour the liquid without spilling, but she filled the coffee too high and it seeped over the top, leaking first on the table and then onto his lap.

He jerked as the hot liquid hit his pants.

“Oh my God, I’m so sorry.” She put the carafe down with a clatter, picked up the nearest napkin, and began blotting his shirt and his lap, pressing down to soak up the liquid, only to come into contact with his hard, thick– “Oh!” She yanked her hand back, further mortified.

“You could keep going,” he said, eyes twinkling with laughter.

She wanted to crawl beneath the nearest table and stay there. “I’m so sorry. Did it burn you?” she asked, her cheeks flaming.

“No. It must have been cooler than you realized. I’m fine. Really.”

“Is everything okay over here?” Grace asked, walking over, obviously concerned.

Juliette stepped up, taking responsibility. “I–“

“Just a little accident,” the man said. “It’s no big deal.”

A customer called Grace’s name and she walked away, the incident forgotten. Juliette wished she could put it behind her as easily.

“How about we introduce ourselves, considering you had your hand on my–“

“Juliette,” she said quickly, before he could finish his sentence. “Juliette Collins.”

“Braden Clark,” he said with a knowing grin that made her weak in the knees.

The man’s impact was potent.

“Nice to meet you, Juliette.”

“Same,” she murmured. “Now can I get you a fresh cup of coffee?”

“That would be great.”

She gently picked up the overflowed cup and headed for the kitchen, returning to him with an empty mug and a towel to clean the table. A few careful minutes of serving later, he had his coffee and she was back to her duties, feeling his gaze on her as she worked. His name is Braden Clark and he’s a regular.”

Juliette picked up the coffee carafe. “I’ve got it.”

Thorn

From the first time I played army as a kid, the military has been my life. As an Airborne Major, I’d led my men through two tours in Afghanistan. But when my father was elected president, I became an even greater target for the enemy—a prize for someone to take out. To ensure not only the safety of myself, but of my men, I got stripped of my cammies, shoved into an Armani suit, and placed into a management position at my father’s company. After years of trekking through the desert with an assault rifle, I was way out of my area of expertise, which my transition coordinator was more than happy to let me know on a daily, if not hourly basis. The brunette bombshell would be the death of me in more ways than one, especially since I hadn’t been with a woman since my last deployment. She’s turning out to be one of the greatest foes I’ve ever done battle with.

Isabel

In the backwoods Georgia town I was born in, you either married right out of high school or got the hell out of town. I chose the second and never looked back. After graduating top in my class, I started working for The Callahan Corporation. Fast forward five years and I was about to become the youngest female manager in the history of my department. And then all the blood, sweat, and tears I’d put into my career were for nothing when the boss’s billionaire son was handed my position on a silver platter. Not only that, I was expected to help transition him into the job that was supposed to be mine. Sure, he’s easy on the eyes with his chiseled good-looks and impossibly built physique, but I’m not going to let that distract me. I hope soldier boy is good at military strategy because sabotage is the name of the game I’ll be playing.

EXCERPT:

Today found us doing some last-minute tweaking in preparation for our dinner meeting with George Halliwell. Although it was just a typical business dinner, Thorn appeared exceptionally tense. He kept popping his neck and jerking his hand through his hair. I hated when he did the hair jerk because it made his sandy blond hair look all tousled and sexy like he’d been rolling around in the sheets during a sexathon.

Yes, I utterly despised myself for thinking that.

We’d just hit a tedious part of reviewing the files on the computer when Thorn leaned his head back and pinched the bridge of his nose. “If I’m going to get through the rest of this, I’m going to need some strong coffee.” He stared pointedly at me.

Oh. Hell. No. He was not suggesting I get his coffee.

In a sugary-sweet tone, I replied, “I believe I showed you where the break room is last week, but if you’ve forgotten, it’s down the hall and then take two lefts.”

“I want an espresso from Starbucks.”

“Then you’re going to need to take the elevator and go down the block.”

“How much plainer do I need to make this, Ms. Flannery? I want a Venti espresso from Starbucks, and you’re going to get it for me.”

“Well, Mr. Callahan, there are a lot of things I want that I don’t get. That’s just life. Furthermore, I know you’re still new to the workforce, but being a coffee runner is not part of my job description. You have an assistant, AKA a secretary for that, not to mention a Secret Service agent who is outside thumbing through Cosmo.”

His blue eyes narrowed at me. “I never said it was part of your job. However, I do believe it is part of your job description not to be insubordinate to your superior.”

If I had been a cartoon character, this was the moment imaginary steam would have billowed from my ears at Thorn’s audacity. At that moment, I had two choices—my own version of Robert Frost’s The Road Not Taken. Fearing for my job, I could bow to Thorn’s will and get his damn coffee, or I could throw caution to the wind and put Mr. Trust Fund Baby in his place. By now, you should know me well enough to know which one I chose. It also didn’t help that I’d caught the end of Nine to Five, one of my all-time favorites, on HBO when I got in from work the night before. Facing down my own version of Franklin Hart, I was going to make Violet, Doralee, and Judy proud.

I jabbed his chest with my index finger. “Look, soldier boy, I know you’re used to barking orders and having your men and women scramble to obey them, but we’re not in Afghanistan anymore, Toto. Now I’m going to walk out of here and tell your secretary you’re about to piss yourself for an espresso.”

While I fully expected Thorn to be enraged by my declaration, I didn’t expect the amused smirk that twisted on his face. “Alice isn’t here.”

“Excuse me?”

“She took a half day to go to the dentist.”

Damn Alice and her teeth. Now my ass really was on the line. “Fine. I will go get your precious espresso, but don’t doubt for one minute that I’ll be filing a grievance via the proper channels,” I hissed.

Thorn had the audacity to grin. “You make sure you do that.”

MOTHERFUCKER. After I whirled around, I started stalking out of his office.

“Oh, Ms. Flannery?” he called.

I fought the urge to reply, Yes, Satan? Instead, I slowly pivoted around. “Yes, Mr. Callahan?”

“I would offer you some cash, but I’m sure you’ll want a receipt to corroborate your story.”

Smug bastard. Of course I wanted a receipt, and of course I planned to put it with my grievance. I hated that he had the ability to read my mind; it made it hard to maintain any ground with him. Well, sometimes he could read my mind—obviously, if he were fully psychic, he would have busted me for the underhanded shit I’d been doing to him.

I gave a nod of my head before turning back around and sprinting out the door. After I stopped by my office for my purse, I hopped on the elevator. When I jabbed the button for the lobby, the woman behind me snickered.

“Tough day, huh?”

“You could say that.”

“Trust me, I’ve been there.”

The commiseration was nice, but at the same time, I inwardly groaned at my behavior. I mean, when had I sunk so low as to act like a petulant toddler by taking my frustrations out on an elevator button? That was somewhat of a rhetorical question since I knew exactly why I was acting the way I was. It was all because the devil incarnate had usurped me at my job and was hell-bent on driving me batshit crazy.

While it pained me to admit it, I really, really wanted to hurt Thorn Callahan, and that in itself was unnerving because I normally wasn’t a violent person. Back home in Georgia, I was constantly stopping my car to help wayward turtles in the middle of the road. I’d even been known to put spiders outside rather than squishing them.

Ugh, the man was driving me absolutely insane, and it had only been three weeks. How was I possibly going to make it a year to eighteen months with him? As I pushed through the doors of the Starbucks, I found myself actually contemplating the thought of changing companies, but I really didn’t want to go that route. It wasn’t that I couldn’t have found another job, but more about the fact that I loved the Callahan Corporation, which had been home to me for so many years.

After I placed my order for Satan’s precious espresso, I started shuffling around in the bottom of my purse for my debit card, and I finally found it hiding under a bottle of dog laxatives. After I handed the card to the barista, my gaze once again fell inside my purse, more specifically on the bottle.

You see, it wasn’t normal for me to have dog laxatives rolling around in the bottom of my purse. Dani was known to suffer from constipation from time to time, which the vet assured me was part of living the city dog life. I hadn’t meant to bring them with me that day. When I was raking stuff off the kitchen counter and into my purse, I thought I’d swept up a bottle of Midol.

At that moment, a truly devious idea entered my mind. It was so heinous that I actually sucked in an agonized breath upon realizing I’d actually thought it. I even went so far as to glance left and right to make sure no one was staring at me in fear. I don’t know why I thought someone could suddenly have the ability to read my mind, but if they did, I would be in big trouble.

I could almost imagine the expressions of horror on their faces, as well as the dialogue that might take place.

That seemingly normal-looking chick right there? Shes debating putting dog laxatives in her bosss coffee.

Damn, thats cold.

Forget cold—its downright psychotic. If she keeps gobbling up the cuckoo puffs, shell be rocking a straight-jacket down in Bellevue.

I dunno, bosses can be epic pricks. He probably deserves a lengthy ride on the porcelain chariot.

“Espresso for Isabel.” I jumped out of my thoughts at the sound of my name being called.
