SUMMER OF SEVENTEEN
It was supposed to be the endless summer of sand, sea, and surf. Supposed to be. But, Nick’s life is crashing out of control. His girlfriend and his best friend have declared war, his sister’s constant interference in his life is driving him insane, and there are money problems that won’t go away. Being seventeen isn’t supposed to be this hard.

When cool surfer Marcus arrives in town with a string of women following, Nick sees that there are easier ways to live. But with his life falling to pieces around him, it’s hard to know who to trust.

Dazzled by Jane Harvey- Berrick is a charming friends to lovers and Hollywood romance. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It was not the standard Hollywood type romance because this book starts at the beginning of stardom and how difficult the climb to the top is.

Miles and Clare have been friends all of their lives. They are completely different types of personalities. The yin and yang to one another. When Miles has a downfall in the London Theater scene it looks like his acting career is at an end. As the old saying goes, when one door closes another one opens, applies to Miles acting career. He is offered to read for a part in an upcoming Hollywood teen movie.

Miles lands the part and has to leave London and Clare behind. He’s sucked into the Hollywood world and is trying not to drown in a world of sharks. When he brings Clare across the pond to help him maneuver his way in the new world, the dynamics of their relationship begins to change. When Miles finally opens his eyes and sees Clare as a woman rather than his best bud, it may be too late.

Clare has finally taken her blinders off where Miles is concerned. Going to Hollywood as his assistant was a huge mistake. It’s not her world. Miles is no longer her Miles. She has finally realized it’s time to wrap it up and head back to London to build her own life.

It takes a huge Hollywood scandal and two meddling mothers to bring these two back where they belong.

I thoroughly enjoyed Dazzled. It was a fun, witty, and sexy Hollywood romance. I loved the English charm and dry humor that was prevalent throughout the book.

Jane Harvey-Berrick always delivers a good romance book.

Although Playing In The Rain by Jane Harvey-Berrick is considered a novella, the content and emotional renderings pack more of a punch than most full length novels.  Grab a bottle of wine, a big box of chocolate, and a super size box of tissues before opening this novel.  Be ready to be wrecked in the best possible way.

I was instantly charmed when I first started reading this book until the bucket list came out.  My alarm bells started going off but as the story progressed I was deluding myself I was under the wrong impression, I grossly misconceived the reasoning.  It was the perfect love story with beautiful moments in spite of the outcome.  It was a happily ever after story in every aspect.  The message was quite clear… live life to the fullest and love with everything you have.

Jane Harvey-Berrick wrecked me in the best possible way and I will never forget Playing In The Rain.

Summer of Seventeen by Jane Harvey-Berrick is my favorite novel in the Crazy Love Anthology.  I connected with this novel because I am a native of coastal Florida and spent my teenage years exactly like Nick and his friends did.  The ocean was our playground and life revolved around the beach.  Another reason I connected with this novel is because I am the mother of a seventeen year old young man embarking on his senior year of high school and becoming an adult man.

Jane Harvey-Berrick captured the pure essence of a teenage boy struggling to become an independent man.  She captured the turmoil of teenager vs. adulthood, the hardship of becoming a responsible individual rather than a carefree kid, finding one’s place in the family structure as an adult rather than a child, the disappointment of realizing role models may not be what they were perceived to be, and lastly the realities of life in every aspect.

I loved how Nick had to overcome personal and financial obstacles but stayed true to himself.  He strived to become better even though his choices weren’t always the right ones.  That’s what growing up was about and Jane Harvey-Berrick captured that summer that led Nick on a new journey.

I absolutely loved this story and gave my seventeen year old son an extra hug because this story reminded me how difficult growing up can be no matter what the circumstance in life is.

Advance Praise:

“Robinson concludes her Kavanagh Legends contemporary quartet (after Becoming a Legend) with a perfect blend of smoldering heat and gentle tenderness. After an accident, mixed martial arts fighter Quinn Kavanagh is placed under the care of physical therapist Keira Finley, his first and only love. She has no idea that she broke his heart when she left for college six years earlier. They’d been best friends since they were kids and never experienced life without each other’s unwavering support, but when Quinn didn’t ask her to stay, Keira needed to prove to herself that she could make it on her own. Quinn’s emotional scars run a lot deeper than the physical ones. He’s afraid to open himself up to Keira again, but with the encouragement of his boisterous, fun-loving family, he learns to give to himself as freely as he’s always given to others. This endearing story showcases Keira and Quinn’s easy banter, familiar warmth, and unquenchable heat. Quinn is the last Kavanagh brother to meet his mate, but subtle mentions of potential future love matches among their friends will leave readers eager for spin-offs.” – Publisher’s Weekly

Exclusive Excerpt:

“I’m leaving Legends now. My bags are packed, so be ready to go as soon as I get there,” Quinn said into the phone, his thick arm flexing as he twisted it to look at his watch.
“UK, here we come!” his older brother Kane shouted through the line. Quinn could practically see him fist-pumping the air. “You’re the best manager ever, Q!”
“Better believe it, Killer.” Quinn laughed before disconnecting the call and pushing his phone into a small interior pocket of the leather jacket that fit snugly over his chiseled back and broad shoulders.
Straddling his prized possession, a classic Ducati he’d kept in pristine condition for years, Quinn pulled on his helmet and gloves. His shaggy black hair peeked out from under the edges of the helmet, framing his face. Though covered in leather, glimpses of his love of ink showed on his neck and hands. What could not be seen was how the tattoos continued onto his chest and back as well. He loved the images, and each one had a special meaning to him—a falcon across his chest in midflight to symbolize his yearning for freedom, a dragon wrapping his arm to mark the fire in his blood, the Kavanagh family crest and motto in Gaelic on his back to represent family pride, along with phrases and names of people and moments that had made him who he was.
But the small metal bar through his eyebrow, or the piercings in his ear? Those were just for fun.
The motorcycle roared to life beneath him, easily heard from blocks away, as he pulled out onto the main street and headed for his parents’ house to meet his brother. He might not live there any longer, but he’d grown up in that house, and it would always feel like home. The whole neighborhood was his home; he knew everyone there, and everyone knew the Kavanaghs—for better or worse.
Quinn rode past the quaint houses in the Woodlawn area of the Bronx, going through a mental checklist of everything he needed to do before Kane competed next week. The International MMA Championship, held in London this year, was the biggest mixed martial arts competition in the world. Kane had won that championship the last two years, giving him the title of World’s Greatest MMA Fighter. Kane planned to win a third time next week and Quinn was eager to stand by his side when he did.
It’d been three short years since his brother had been thrust into the public spotlight after winning his first U.S. National Championship in Vegas. Quinn beamed proudly at the memory. Even though he wasn’t the one in the cage, he still felt a part of his brother’s success, having managed his entire career from the beginning. Kane’s win was Quinn’s win. It was a win for all the Kavanaghs—something they each really needed after everything the family had been through.
As he approached his parents’ street, he signaled with both his right hand and turn signal that he was switching lanes. A large truck whistled past, completely ignoring his signal. Quinn yanked the bike to the left, narrowly escaping a collision as his heart leapt into his throat.
Asshole.
Taking a deep breath to calm the adrenaline shooting through his body at the close call, Quinn carefully looked around, and once he’d confirmed that the right lane was clear, he again signaled his intentions. Sliding the bike into the right lane, he accelerated, eager to get to his childhood home.
That was his last thought before it happened.
His family.
How happy he was.
How much he loved his life.
A silver sedan parallel-parked against the curb nosed out into the right lane, directly in front of Quinn’s bike. His eyes widened as the air left his lungs, and he attempted to swerve around the sudden obstacle.
But there was no time. There was no space.
The front wheel of his bike slammed into the front wheel well of the sedan, and Quinn was weightless. He barely had a moment to blink before he was twisting through the air—over the handlebars, over his bike, over the sedan.
He heard the impact before he felt it.
His body skidding over the unforgiving pavement as wind rushed past him—a crunching, tumbling screech. Car horns firing, people screaming—or was he screaming? The echoes inside his helmet both muted and deafened.
But then he felt it, and it was fucking hell.
The crack of bones, a searing pain shooting through him. Every nerve ending in his body set on fire at the force of impact, consuming him till he was certain he couldn’t stand another second of it. Sliding across the pavement, his skin burned against the grating asphalt, his leather gear no match for the unforgiving surface.
And then it was quiet.
So fucking quiet as he stared up at the sun and waited . . . for what, he didn’t know.
He wasn’t connected to his body, but somehow trapped inside it. Quinn tried to call for help, tried to get up, but his lungs and limbs ignored his commands.
Just as his eyes began to flutter closed, the pain overtaking him, pushing him beyond what he could ever handle . . . he saw her. Her strawberry-blond hair falling down past her soft pink cheeks, the sun creating a halo behind her. Her fingertips grazed his face, and she whispered to him so softly he barely made out what she said. Light blue eyes, nearly translucent in their brightness, told him to just hold on . . . don’t let go . . . don’t give up.
And then she was gone.
And so was he.

Michel’s Review

I can’t tell you how excited I was anticipating Chasing A Legend by Sarah Robinson.  The Kavanaugh Legend Series has become one of my favorite family series.  I love the family dynamics of the Kavanaugh family and how they stick together through thick and thin.  Chasing A Legend is Quinn Kavanaugh’s book and it was quite unexpected.

My impressions of Quinn Kavanaugh were quite different than what was revealed in this novel.  I believed he was the tattooed bad boy of the family who chose not to become a fighter because he was a bit defiant of the family reputation.  He chose the business aspect of the fighting world so that he could have an independent life away from the family.   In a sense this was true but he wasn’t being defiant and he wasn’t quite the bad boy.  He was just himself and didn’t believe he fit in the family dynamics because he had other passions in life away from the ring.  When a severe motorcycle accident takes him away from the fighting world and makes him more dependent on his family is when the true Quinn Kavanaugh begins to surface.  I fell head over heels in love with this sensitive man who had a hidden passion.

Quinn Kavanaugh has been in love with the Kiera Finley since he was a six year old boy.  At twenty one she rejected his love and moved onto better things.  She left his bed and life long friendship to pursue her dreams of becoming something more than her mother ever was.  She became a doctor and now she has returned home to do her residency.  Her first patient is Quinn Kavanaugh. Quinn is not the same friend she left behind nor is he open to renewing their friendship.  It hurts and she doesn’t understand his rejection.

As Quinn and Kiera work towards his rehabilitation, the passion between them sparks but Quinn is holding back.  Quinn is protecting his heart and hiding his secrets.

Kiera is not only going to have to win back his trust, she is going to have to get to know the dynamic man he has become.  His family is also going to meet a very different Quinn when all his secrets come to light.

Be prepared for an emotional novel and make sure you have a box of tissues close by.  Chapter eight is going to pull the heartstrings hard.

What I liked best about this novel was not the love story but the Kavanaugh family dynamics.  The Kavanaugh’s stick together through thick and thin. They pulled through for Quinn in a spectacular way.

Two more Kavanaugh siblings are left and screaming for their stories to be told. I can’t wait!

New Release + Blog Tour + 4-Star Review: Toying With Her by Prescott Lane

Toying with Her by Prescott Lane
Release Date: August 17th
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Toying with Her, an all-new standalone from Prescott Lane is coming LIVE!!!

toyingwithher

No one said finding love was easy, but when you invented the world’s best selling vibrator, it’s near impossible. Yep, that’s right. That little toy hidden in your bedside table is my brain child. It’s aptly named Woman on Top. And you know what they say . . . it’s lonely at the top.

So I’m headed home to my Southern roots. It’s supposed to be an extended Summer vacation — nothing more. But Rorke Weston has other plans for me. Plans that not only involve me being on top, but also underneath him.

It’s been said you never forget your first. For me, that’s definitely true. No night has ever lived up to the one I spent with Rorke.

He’s turned into quite a man. Tan from the Southern sun, and stubborn as the day is long. And there’s nothing sweeter than the swipe of his tongue.

Rorke wants his chance. The one we never had. But that was a long time ago. When I still believed in Prince Charming and Happily Ever Afters. Even ten years later, I feel a pull. And it’s not simply Rorke yanking down my panties.

Do second chances really happen? Or is my heart simply toying with me?

Tracey’s Review

Having read and really enjoyed THE SEX BUCKET LIST by Prescott Lane, I was definitely interested in getting my hands on TOYING WITH HER, Prescott’s newest release. The things that I liked best about the former are also in play here: a strong woman that’s making it on her own, firmly rooted family relationships, and a steamy, sizzly love story that rounds everything out. The reassurance that you can go home again also adds to the appeal, and makes this book an even more emotional read.

Second-chance romances are some of my favorites, and TOYING WITH HER is a very enjoyable one. The relationship between Sterling and Rorke is generally easy and comfortable, with plenty of barely tapped passion. There were moments where I wanted to pull a Moonstruck moment ala Cher and tell Rorke to snap out of it already and get over his macho mindset, but, all in all, this is a couple that I got a kick out of reading about.

TOYING WITH HER is a solid 4-stars for me. I look forward to reading more from Prescott, and I would absolutely recommend it for fans of small town romance with a lot of heart.

Blog Tour… New Release and Review: Twisted Twosome by Meghan Quinn

Twisted Twosome, an all new sexy, laugh out loud romantic comedy from Meghan Quinn is LIVE!

TwistedTwosome

Twisted Twosome by Meghan Quinn
Publication Date: August 3, 2017

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Racer McKay is a broody bastard.

From the moment I met him, he’s been rude, irritable, and unbearable.

A contractor working to remodel my parents pool house for extra cash, he stomps around in those clunky construction boots with his tool belt wrapped around his narrow waist, and a chip on his shoulder.

Racer McKay is also infuriatingly . . . sexy as hell. I want to take that pencil tucked behind his ear, and draw lazy lines slowly up and down his body all the while wanting to strangle him at the same time.

We try to stay out of each other’s way . . . that is until I have no other option but to ask for his help.

But what I don’t realize is he needs me just as much as I need him. I have money he’s desperate for, and he holds the key to making my dreams come true.

Our pranks turn from sarcastic banter, to sexual tension and lust-filled glances. Bickering matches quickly morph into slow burn moments. We’re hot, we’re cold. We push and pull. I need him, I don’t want him. We’re on the verge of combusting with an agreement dangling dangerously between us. Neither one of us can afford to lose one another and yet, we’re finding it quite hard to decipher the line that rests between love and hate.

Michel’s Review

Everytime I open a Meghan Quinn novel I know I am in for a fun, delightful, and entertaining read.  Twisted Twosome is another winner that had me laughing out loud and craving snack cakes.

A contractor and an heiress.  A man desperate for money and a woman desperate for her independence.  A man with honor and solid work ethics.  A woman with a dream that has champagne taste and a beer budget.  What they have in common is they are both strong willed, smart mouthed, and dedicated to what they believe in.  They say opposites attract and in this case it couldn’t be more true.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and connected with both of the characters.  Their snarky banter, ridiculous pranks were just part of the pretty package.  Their true hearts and integrity won me over.  Their love for one another had me sighing and swooning.  This book is loosely connected to My Best Friend’s Ex.  Several of the characters appear in both books.  I can’t wait to see what comes next for this hilarious group of friends.  I think Smalls is going to fall hard in a big way!

Big, hard-drinking, and as rough and demanding in bed as he is out of it, Bax may be the baddest brother yet…

Michel’s Review

I can’t tell you what a relief it was to open Good Girl Gone Badd by Jasinda Wilder after reading her previous emotionally draining novel Long Way Home.  This new delightful novel, the latest addition to the BADD Brothers series, was light hearted, fun, and red hot sexy!  It was the sassy side of Jasinda shining throughout the pages with a whole lot of panty melting humor.  The BADD Brothers philosophies have become my new mantra… work hard, play hard, and love even harder.  Yup… I’m ready to hightail it to Ketichan, Alaska for some BADD life experiences.

Baxter “Basher” Badd is the in your face, brash brother.  He’s known for his over the top crudeness and unfiltered mouth.  He thrives on physical violence, heavy drinking, fast women, and unapologetic hookups.  On the surface he comes across as a neanderthal but what most don’t see is a sensitive, highly intelligent, driven man dedicated to his family.  His reputation in the underground fighting network as one of the deadliest fighters has left grown men shaking in their boots and women dropping their panties. It has his brothers rolling their eyes.  Nothing seems to shake him until he rescues a damsel in distress, a good girl with a whole lot of innocence and insatiable need to be bad.  Evangeline du Maurier is taking the Basher down one pelvic thrust at a time.

Eva (Evagaline) ran away from her privileged life for a bit of breathing room.  She ended up in Ketchikan, Alaska at an underground fight.  When she finds herself in a serious situation that is quickly heading into a rape scene, she’s rescued by by Bax.  Bax being the good guy he is takes her home to the Badd Bar & Grill for refuge.  There she meets the BADD clan in all their dirty mouthed, fun loving glory.  Their easy going manner is something she craves just a much as she craves her sexy knight in tarnished armor.  She has a few days of freedom at most and she intends to make every moment count.

Eva and Bax find their sexual escapades are more than fun and games.  For the first time they have found someone who really sees what is below the surface.  They find someone who sees their soul rather than all the wrappings that define their lives. Their time together is a race against the clock.  Their time together is going to change everything they thought they were and make them want something more.  It will be up to them (with a little push from seven meddling Badd brothers and three mouthy women) to define their destiny.  Bax “Basher” Badd is facing the fight of a lifetime.  Eva du Maurier has her own battles to win before she can pillage and plunder her Badd boy.

Once again Jasinda Wilder delivered another delightful story that has me researching trips to Alaska and searching FB hunting for a certain group page (read the book).  She also tantalized the readers with a teaser of what is next in the BADD world.  TWINS!  DOUBLE THE TROUBLE…DOUBLE THE PLEASURE!

BADD BROTHERS SERIES – BOOK 1

BY JASINDA WILDER

BUY : AMAZON

SYNOPSIS:

Your wedding day is supposed to be the happiest day of your life, right? That’s what they say, at least. I went into that day hoping I’d get the happiest day of my life. What I got? The worst. I mean, you really can’t get any worse of a day without someone actually dying.

So…I may have gotten just a little drunk, and maybe just a tad impetuous…

And landed myself in a dive bar somewhere in Alaska, alone, still in my wedding dress, half-wasted and heart-broken.

***

Eight brothers, one bar.

Sounds like the beginning to a bad joke, yeah?

I kinda think so.

Wanna hear another joke? A girl walks into a bar, soaking wet and wearing a wedding dress.

I knew I shouldn’t have touched her. She was hammered, for one thing, and heartbroken for another. I’ve chased enough tail to know better. That kinda thing only leads to clinginess, and a clingy female is the last thing on this earth I need.

I got a bar needs running, and only me to run it—at least until my seven wayward brothers decide to show their asses up…

Then this chick walks in, fine as hell, wearing a soaked wedding dress that leaves little enough to the imagination—and I’ve got a hell of an imagination.

I knew I shouldn’t have touched her. Not so much as a finger, not even innocently.

Synopsis

I was a Sixty-Eight Whiskey—a combat medic. So when I hear someone shout “MEDIC!” training just kicks in. It’s automatic, immediate. I don’t think I even saw the guy whose leg I tended to, not really. All I saw was him. Zane Badd. His tuxedo fit him like he’d been sewn into it, and his eyes reflected the fury and the hardness of a combat veteran, but when he looked at me, he just…softened. By the time I had his brother patched, Zane and I were both covered in blood, and I knew I had to have him.

The trouble with Zane isn’t getting him, it’s keeping him.

And the trouble with me is, even if I could hold onto a man like Zane, I wouldn’t know what to do with him. It’s not in my nature, and if life has taught me anything, it’s to not trust anyone, least of all men like Zane. He’s a warrior through and through, hard, muscular, gorgeous, tenacious, and yet oddly tender toward me.

Experience and instincts are telling me to run from Zane Badd as fast as possible, but my heart and my body are telling me to stay, to hold on and not let go. Yeah, it’s a conflict as old as humanity itself, but it’s brand new for me.

*   *   *

Life as Navy SEAL doesn’t exactly prepare you for normality. Yeah, I can tend bar and goof off with my seven crazy brothers, but what do I do when the woman of my dreams—dreams I didn’t know I’d had until I saw her—explodes into my life like a frag grenade? I’m trained to attack, to win, to survive at any costs, and figuring out what to do about a woman like Amarantha Quinn will take every scrap of tenacity and courage I possess. Combat is easy, it turns out, in comparison to facing your own fears and scars.

And then sometimes, just when you think you’ve got it finally figured out, fate throws you a screwball and sends everything FUBAR.

Blurb

Brock Badd is everything except bad. He’s sexy, sweet, strong, and every other good thing I never thought I wanted in a man. I always thought I needed the real bad boys, the ones that screw you senseless and pull your hair and aren’t there to talk about it in the morning.

I’ve always been a one-night stand kind of girl, and sometimes I wouldn’t even stick around for a full night. Brock was supposed to be a one-night stand—that’s how it started out, at least. Only, what was supposed to be a fun one-time-only hookup with a hot local guy ended up with me discovering Brock’s potency six different ways by breakfast.

That was all it took. One night with Brock, and I was hooked. But hooked doesn’t mean ready for a relationship.

That’s what he wants. And deep down, I’m starting to fear that’s what I want too.

I’m just not sure I’m ready for it.

I mean, he’s the literal epitome of tall, dark, and handsome, plus he’s a pilot…with a six-pack and perfect hair and a smile to melt me from the inside out. How’s a girl supposed to resist that? I couldn’t. I can’t. I’ve tried, but I keep going back for more.

I’ve got it bad, real BADD.

Chapter Two Excerpt:

Sutton stared at the lace concoction. From La Perla’s fall collection. Fine Italian lace.
Ridiculously expensive for something so small. A special order with the addition of a small
embroidered heart to sit at the owner’s hipbone. Oh yes, she was acquainted with the
underwear but not intimately acquainted. She’d ordered them through Abigail’s Boutique, but
not for herself. She was too practical.
Wyatt Abbott shook them even closer to her face, obviously expecting her to take them.
The thought of touching the lace made her shrink against the driver’s door, and she fumbled for
the handle, finally finding it and yanking. The door opened and her momentum sent her to the
shop floor on her butt.
Her skirt bunched around her thighs, probably high enough for Wyatt Abbott to see her
simple cotton pink panties from Victoria’s Secret. The fact they weren’t white was the wildest
she got. She’d even waited for them to go on sale. With a bruised ego and bottom, she
scrambled up.
Wyatt hadn’t moved. His mouth was parted, still in a slight smile, the panties dangling
from his fingers. Instead of the roil of emotions gaining steam inside of her, she concentrated
on his hands. They were rough-looking and callused. The nails were short but lined with grease.
And they were big. They built things. Fixed things. Put things back together.
A darkness came over his face, clouding his earlier good-humor and giving him an edge
of danger she hadn’t sensed through his teasing. Instead of getting out of the car from the
door, he stood up on the passenger seat, stepped to the driver’s seat, and hopped next to her,
the black lace of her betrayal dangling in his hand.
“What’s the problem?” he asked.
A jackhammering noise from the other bay filled the space so she didn’t have to. The
crazy thing was that she had sensed something wrong. Something had been wrong pretty much
since she and Andrew had gotten engaged.

She’d tried to put it down to nerves or how busy they both were with work. But the
truth was she’d been dragging her feet with the wedding preparations. Between the two of
them pulling away, the distance had grown until only an echo of what had drawn them
together remained.
The hum of a motor and the flash of sunlight on metal drew her attention to the open
bay door. Her best friend, Bree Randall, stepped out of her BMW coupe dressed in heels, grey
slacks, and a sleeveless silk shell, the pink contrasting beautifully with her dark brown hair and
ivory complexion. She was a lawyer for Cottonbloom, Mississippi’s city government and had
been Sutton’s best friend since first grade.
No way could Sutton smile and pretend everything was fine. She grabbed the front of
Wyatt’s coveralls and looked up at him. The boy she remembered had been too cool and a
borderline jerk, teasing her incessantly, almost to the point of tears. The man was still too cool,
yet something new lurked behind his ease. She hoped it was akin to kindness.
Bree drew closer. Stuck between a devil she knew and one she didn’t, Sutton took a
chance. Her voice was hoarse and begging and she didn’t care. “Get me out of here. Please.”
Without taking his eyes off her, he called out, “Yo, Jackson. Could you put the lady from
the Beemer in the waiting room? Tell her Miss Mize isn’t feeling well and stepped out back for
some fresh air.”
If his brother answered, she didn’t hear him. Wyatt put a strong, stabilizing arm around
her shoulders and guided her around various pieces of equipment and mechanical parts to a
door tucked away at the back of the shop floor. She stepped outside, closed her eyes, and took
a deep breath. The freshness of the air counteracted the bile rising in her throat.
Her knees wobbled as the stark reality of the situation and the fallout took shape in her
mind. She glanced at the man by her side. What was Wyatt Abbott thinking right now? Probably
that she was borderline psychotic.
A huge red barn sat behind the shop, and they passed from sun back into shadows. A
body-sized punching bag twirled from a high beam as they passed by. That explained why the

arm at her back was so solid. Her heels tapped on the wide-planked floor. The smell of
weathered wood was overlaid by something sweeter. Honeysuckle, maybe.
No hay was stored in the Abbott’s barn. Two tarp-covered cars, the bottom curves of
their tires the only part visible, formed a path to the back where a scratched up leather couch
and mini-fridge sat.
“Sorry it’s so dusty in here. We like to keep the doors open if the weather’s nice because
of the views and cross breeze.” He took a blue towel from his back pocket and wiped off a
section of the couch, leaving yellow streaks of pollen. Getting a little dirty was way down on her
list of worries and she plopped down, wrapping her arms around her stomach and leaning over
so her forehead nearly touched her knees.
“You want a Coke or tea or something?”
She raised her head enough to see his big hand holding out a bottle. He shifted back and
forth in his black work boots, the hem of his coveralls ombrèd black to grey with grease.
“It’s a little early for whiskey, but I’ve got that too if you’d rather.” He sounded so
worried and unsure, she straightened, took the Coke and pressed the cool plastic against her
cheeks and neck.
“You must think I’ve gone batty.” She rarely drank alcohol and never whiskey, but for a
moment she considered it as a viable option, even though it was still technically breakfast. It
was five o’clock somewhere, right?
“I think something really bad happened,” he said. “I’m not sure what, but I suspect it has
something to do with the restaurant receipts and the underwear.”
“Oh God. The receipts.” Her mind hadn’t even circled back around to those, but
everything notched into place like a puzzle whose missing piece turned up stuck on the bottom
of a shoe covered with chewed up old gum and bug guts.
His late nights working. Breaking dates at the last minute. His distraction. How long had
it been since they’d shared the same bed? Two months? Three? She’d put it down to the

natural progression of a committed relationship and the busyness of their lives, assuming things
would be better once they were living under the same roof.
“I’m a moron.” Tears crawled up her throat and choked off her feeble attempt of a
laugh.
She closed her eyes wishing she could teleport herself back under the covers. The
cushion sagged next to her, and she tipped towards him, her shoulder bumping his biceps. A
moment passed before his arm came around her shoulders, and they sank back into the couch
together.
She turned her face into the space between his neck and shoulder and took a deep
breath, desperately trying to get a handle on her out-of- control emotions. Pain was to be
expected, but the flashes of fierce fury took her by surprise.
Easygoing and nice and cheerful were bandied about when people passed compliments
her way. At least, she’d always taken them as compliments. Now she wasn’t so sure. Maybe all
those things were code words for weak and gullible.
Another breath. She concentrated on Wyatt’s warmth and scent. So different from the
expensive cologne Andrew wore. Wyatt smelled like pine trees and the garage. His dark, almost
black hair, tickled her nose. A tear slipped out and she wiped it away with the heel of her hand.
“You want me to go get your friend?” His chest vibrated against her, deep and rich.
Friend? She didn’t want to examine the other half of the betrayal. Worse than Andrew
cheating on her was who he’d been getting down and dirty with. Her best friend. No. A friend
wouldn’t sleep with her fiancé behind her back while helping her plan the wedding with an
enthusiasm that oftentimes exceed her own.
Sutton ransacked her brain for moments she could point to and say Aha! but none came
to mind. Bree had been supportive and helpful over the last few months. Lies. How many lies
had Sutton accepted as gospel truth? A few more tears escaped along with a ragged breath.

Wyatt made a humming sound that was distinctly uncomfortable, and he pulled away.
“Let me—”
She grabbed his coveralls. “No. Don’t you get it? That was her thong.”
He shifted to face her. “Is identifying underwear in a single glance your superpower?”
Despite her life crashing down, a shard of humor sliced through the shock, and her lips
twitched. “Expensive underwear. The heart on the panties matches her tattoo. A special order.”
“You fiancé and your best friend?”
Put like that, she felt even dumber. “My life has turned into a cliché.”
“It’s a cliché because of how often it happens. Nothing for you to be ashamed of. It’s
them that should feel like chickenshit.”
“You don’t understand how people like to talk.”
“I understand, alright. I just don’t care what people say.” The defiant edge in his voice
spoke of his own pain and sorrows, but right now she only had room for her own. He was quiet
for a moment. “You want me to get rid of her?”
Sutton sank back and took a swig of Coke, the burn bringing a different, more welcome,
sort of tear to her eyes. “I need to talk to her. Confront her.”
“Yeah, but not hurt and crying. You need to prepare. Get mad then get even.”
His advice made her sit up straighter. She’d been raised to smooth feathers, not ruffle
them. Her mother had taught her how a smile and pleasant word could diffuse most situations.
The lessons had contributed to her business success but hadn’t done her personal life any
favors. Another whip of red-hot fury flayed her heart.
“She’s my ride back over the river.” Her voice sounded even and strong, her anger a
mast to cling to amid the wreckage.
“I can be your ride.”

“But you have work to do.”
The look he cast her was full of disbelief. “You’re not going through with the restoration,
are you?”
The Camaro, the red harbinger of her ruin, had already slipped her mind. She didn’t
even like the stupid car. Her daddy and Tarwater senior had hatched this surprise over a round
of golf with Ford Abbott after she’d confessed she couldn’t think of anything to give Andrew as
an engagement present. Only when her daddy had anted up half the money had she agreed.
Their “go big or go home” mentality had seemed a ridiculous waste to her.
Dear Lord, her family. What would her daddy say? As a long-standing judge, he was sort
of a colleague of Andrew’s. She closed her eyes and rocked forward and back on the edge of
the couch.
“What if I’m overreacting?” If only this was a bad dream. Yet, did she really want that?
An undercurrent that felt vaguely like relief trickled through the anger and humiliation and
doubts.
“About which part, your fiancé cheating or who he was cheating with?” Wyatt stuck a
hand into his pocket, came out with the thong and tossed it on her lap.
She leapt up and brushed it off as if she were Miss Muffet and it was a venomous, hairy,
black spider. She kicked at it with the toe of her shoe. The red heart mocked her from the black
lace. Yet the little girl who’d shared her pimento cheese sandwich with Bree every day during
kindergarten wanted to be wrong.
She sank back down to the edge of the couch, feeling like she was shoring up the
situation with Scotch tape. “There could be a reasonable explanation. Like she and Andrew
went to lunch and for some reason she had them in her purse and they fell out. Maybe I’ve
jumped to the wrong conclusion.”
“Maybe.” He shrugged. She appreciated the fact he wasn’t calling her on her BS excuses
even though his face was the definition of skeptical.

“You sure you don’t mind giving me a ride?” she asked.
“I’ll get rid of your friend and take you home. That should buy you some time to figure
things out. Confront her on your terms.”
Her initial impressions of Wyatt Abbott were from the viewpoint of a preteen girl. Back
then, she’d been self-conscious of her skinny arms and legs and flyaway hair, and whenever
she’d come to the garage with her daddy, Wyatt had made it his mission to tease her
mercilessly.
What was he now? On the surface, she’d label him a good old boy. Fun, flirty, simple.
Except, his gray eyes were anything but. Not flat like shale, but ready to spark a fire like a flint.
Raw emotions provided a sharp awareness. Her memories of him urged her to be cautious with
her trust, yet his jaw was set and his shoulders were rolled forward as if ready and willing to go
into battle.
“Why?” she finally whispered.
“Why what?”
“Why are you being so nice to me? You hated me as a kid.”
“Hated you?” He stuffed his hands into his pockets and tipped his head enough to
shutter his intensity of his eyes. “I never hated you, in fact . . .” He shook his head.
“In fact what?”
“Not important. Simply put, unlike your fiancé and your friend, I’m not an asshole. If you
don’t need me—”
“No, I do need you.” She stood but misjudged how close he was. They weren’t touching,
but she could feel his heat and appreciate his strength. “I just . . .”
Wyatt Abbott was handsome, but even more potent than his looks was an intangible
confidence and ease with himself. The man probably talked a different woman out of her
panties every weekend. Would he cash in on her humiliation for a good story to tell brothers

and drinking buddies? Did it even matter? Whether it was him or someone else, rumors would
rush through the town like their river after a storm
Insecurities pinged between her head and heart, the message clear. Protect yourself.
But surely, she could at least trust him to get her home. “I would really appreciate a lift home.”
He chaffed her arms like a coach might comfort a little kid after a loss. “It’ll be okay. You
wait here while I handle your friend, okay?”
She nodded, and he strode back toward the garage. Highlighted in a shaft of sunlight, he
hesitated at the metal door they’d ducked through and glanced behind him. A zing of
warning—or premonition?—skittered down her spine.
Her life had been spun into chaos, yet in that moment, she felt connected to Wyatt in a
way that terrified her. Then he disappeared, and she waited to discover out if her trust had
once again been misplaced.

Michel’s Review

The grand finale in the Bourbon Kings series has released. The Devil’s Cut by J. R. Ward delivers a powerful conclusion for the Bradford family dynasty.  Appearances are deceptive, behind the illusion of grandeur and wealth lies deadly secrets.  These secrets are motives for deception, theft, and murder.  Fortunes are squandered for power and greed.  People are destroyed in the name of love. The strong branches of the family tree are nothing but broken, twisted limbs. The Bradford legacy is nothing but an illusion about to be exposed.

Lane Baldwine is desperately trying to save the family name and fortune his father embezzled.  His brother Edward has been charged with their father’s murder.  His sister Gin has sold herself to an abusive marriage for all the wrong reasons. His brother Max has suddenly returned home after being off the grid for years. The mother of his heart is dying and his birth mother is lost to the world of drugs and insanity.  His soon to be ex wife is pregnant with his father’s baby and trying to secure her share of the family fortune.  His father not only left the family finances destitute , he also left behind illegitimate children and a multitude of enemies.  Lane Baldwine is dealing with more than a lost fortune, he’s dealing with a broken family.

The big question is who killed “daddy dearest” ?  The answer to that question could either unravel the family more or save what is left of the broken threads.

The next big question is where did all the money go?  Is it lost forever or can Lane salvage enough to save the distillery?

Has the Bradford Legacy come to an end?  That question all depends on the first question.

If you want the all the answers… read the book!  All the answers are hidden in plain sight in   pure sarcastic and twisted J. R. Ward brilliance.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Bourbon King series.  The Devil’s Cut delivered all the answers with quite a few surprises along the way.  There were a few things that held me back from giving this book five stars.  At times it felt a bit rushed and other times too drawn out and slower paced.  Another factor that held me back was one of the characters that was introduced in book one and added to the dynamics in developing the plot was omitted in book three. I felt like they were part of the key in the new dynamics of the Bradford family legacy. Overall it was a very good book and satisfying conclusion to the series.

Synopsis

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Black Dagger Brotherhood delivers the first novel in an enthralling new series set amid the shifting dynamics of a Southern family defined by wealth and privilege—and compromised by secrets, deceit, and scandal….

For generations, the Bradford family has worn the mantle of kings of the bourbon capital of the world. Their sustained wealth has afforded them prestige and privilege—as well as a hard-won division of class on their sprawling estate, Easterly. Upstairs, a dynasty that by all appearances plays by the rules of good fortune and good taste. Downstairs, the staff who work tirelessly to maintain the impeccable Bradford facade. And never the twain shall meet.

For Lizzie King, Easterly’s head gardener, crossing that divide nearly ruined her life. Now, after two years of staying away, Tulane is finally coming home again, and he is bringing the past with him. No one will be left unmarked: not Tulane’s beautiful and ruthless wife; not his older brother, whose bitterness and bad blood know no bounds; and especially not the ironfisted Bradford patriarch, a man with few morals, fewer scruples, and many, many terrible secrets.

Synopsis

#1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward delivers the second novel in her Bourbon Kings series—a sweeping saga of a Southern dynasty struggling to maintain a façade of privilege and prosperity, while secrets and indiscretions threaten its very foundation……

In Charlemont, Kentucky, the Bradford family is the crème de la crème of high society—just like their exclusive brand of bourbon. And their complicated lives and vast estate are run by a discrete staff who inevitably become embroiled in their affairs. This is especially true now, when the apparent suicide of the family patriarch is starting to look more and more like murder…
No one is above suspicion—especially the eldest Bradford son, Edward. The bad blood between him and his father is known far and wide, and he is aware that he could be named a suspect. As the investigation into the death intensifies, he keeps himself busy at the bottom of a bottle—as well as with his former horse trainer’s daughter. Meanwhile, the family’s financial future lies in the perfectly manicured hands of a business rival, a woman who wants Edward all to herself.

Everything has consequences; everybody has secrets. And few can be trusted. Then, at the very brink of the family’s demise, someone thought lost to them forever returns to the fold. Maxwell Bradford has come home. But is he a savior…or the worst of all the sinners?

The Devil’s Cut

Bourbon Kings Series – Book 3

By J. R. Ward

Buy: Amazon / B & N / IBooks / Kobo

Synopsis

In #1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward’s thrilling finale to her Bourbon Kings series, the Bradford family dynasty teeters on the edge of collapse after the murder of their patriarch—and a shocking arrest.

At first, the death of William Baldwine, the head of the Bradford family, was ruled a suicide. But then his eldest son and sworn enemy, Edward, came forward and confessed to what was, in fact, a murder. Now in police custody, Edward mourns not the disintegration of his family or his loss of freedom . . . but the woman he left behind. His love, Sutton Smythe, is the only person he has ever truly cared about, but as she is the CEO of the Bradford Bourbon Company’s biggest competitor, any relationship between them is impossible. And then there’s the reality of the jail time that Edward is facing.

Lane Baldwine was supposed to remain in his role of playboy, forever in his big brother Edward’s shadow. Instead he has become the new head of the family and the company. Convinced that Edward is covering for someone else, Lane and his true love, Lizzie King, go on the trail of a killer—only to discover a secret that is as devastating as it is game-changing.

As Lane rushes to discover the truth, and Sutton finds herself irresistibly drawn to Edward in spite of his circumstances, the lives of everyone at Easterly will never be the same again. For some, this is good; for others, it could be a tragedy beyond imagining. Only one thing is for certain: Love survives all things. Even murder.

Sometimes love is better the second time around.

Mia Gibbs spent her marriage putting her husband’s needs before her own. And now, after a painful divorce, she’s building a new life for herself and her two daughters back home at Firefly Lake. The last thing she needs is a man to complicate things. But former bad boy turned friend Nick McGuire has turned everything upside down.

Attorney Nick McGuire wasn’t meant to be a family man. His career has always been his focus, and after taking time out to help his mother, he’s ready to get back to the city…until Mia and her daughters arrive at Firefly Lake. Mia is beautiful and intriguing, and it doesn’t take long to realize being “just friends” will never be enough. As the summer nights turn colder, Nick will have to choose between the life he’s always wanted…and the woman he can’t live without.

Excerpt:

“I want this.” Mia lifted her face to his as a cloud scudded across the moon. “I want you.”

Even if it could only be for tonight, she was Mia, not a mom, not a sister, and not a wife who’d been tossed aside for someone younger and curvier. For this one moment, she didn’t have any responsibilities except what she wanted and needed.

I want you, too.” Nick took her hand and led her toward the car. “A part of me has wanted you since I was fifteen and you hung out at the town beach in that green bikini with the white flowers.”

Her heart lurched. He’d noticed her enough to remember the bikini she’d hidden from her mom. The one she’d bought because she’d heard Nick say he liked green. “You were always with the guys by the life guard station.” Everything about him was a lot sexy and a little bit dangerous.

“I wanted to see you.” His smile was forced, like the admission cost him more than he wanted her to know.

Mia curved her cold hand into his warm one. She’d guessed she’d hurt him the one time they’d gone out, but until tonight she hadn’t understood how much. She couldn’t regret the past, and she couldn’t predict the future, but she could do something about the present. “I want to be with you. Even though we’re not teenagers anymore and I don’t have that green bikini.

Nick’s gaze skimmed her body from head to toe and lingered at her breasts. Then he gave her a grin that was pure bad boy. “I was always a lot more interested in what was underneath that bikini anyway.”

He opened the passenger door for her to slide in.

She looked at him from under her lashes and flirted like she’d wanted to do all those years ago but had been too shy. “You were, were you?”

“Oh yeah.” He shut the car door and, in the sudden silence, panic rolled over her again. Except, there was excitement too…

Tracey’s Review

It’s been said that you can’t go home again, but sometimes, home is exactly where you need to be. And, sometimes, home is more than a place…

Firefly Lake once represented everything that Mia Gibbs didn’t want. Reminders of a childhood filled with dishonesty and betrayal made it more a prison than a respite. As an adult, though, the idyllic spot in Vermont is just what Mia needs as she rebuilds a life for herself and her girls.

Nick McGuire knows himself. Disappointed again and again by those closest to him, and destined to keep love at arm’s length, he’s only back at Firefly Lake long enough to help his mother get her life in order. But life, and love, happen when we’re least expecting it, and soon enough the feelings that he’s having for Mia are more than he could have anticipated.

Small town romances with a second-chance twist are some of my favorites, and author Jen Gilroy does not disappoint with SUMMER ON FIREFLY LAKE. Healing, the stripping away of hurts, and people becoming exactly who they’re destined to be abound in this story of love lost and love found.

Both Nick and Mia have suffered at the hands of the people that were supposed to be their safe place, and, while it’s left Nick wary of opening himself up to anything deeper than a fling, it’s given Mia the strength to know her worth, and to refuse to settle for anything less than she deserves. The more time they spend together, the more evident it becomes that both of them are exactly where they’re supposed to be, even if it takes one of them (cough, cough, Nick…) longer to realize it.

SUMMER ON FIREFLY LAKE is rich with family, friends, small town life, and the feeling that second chances are waiting just around the corner. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Mia and Nick find their way back to each other, and see some unexpected new relationships bloom. I’m looking forward to getting Cat’s and Luc’s story soon, because there’s definitely something brewing there. In the meantime, 4 stars and a recommendation for SUMMER ON FIREFLY LAKE to lovers of contemporary romances with that small-town twist. You’ll be happy that you visited.

Illicit

Sin City Outlaws Series – Book 4

By M. N. Forgy

Release Date: July 27, 2017

Buy: Amazon  / Amazon UK

Synopsis

I’m an animal, a member of the Sin City Outlaws motorcycle club that isn’t capable of human compassion. So I’ve been told anyway.

Raven is my club’s prisoner. I’ve been ordered to break her. It should be easy given my violent history. But being this close to a woman—this woman—for the first time in a long time, is like sharing company with the demon Lilith herself.

She’s my perfect toy. Filled with a dark rage. Blessed with perfected beauty. Sinfully sweet and wickedly divine. Everything about her solicits the demons inside me

I want to hear her screams. I want those big, dark eyes looking up at me—silently begging me for mercy. I want to be her heaven…and her hell.

My desire for her is forbidden. My infatuation is illicit. I’m betraying my club.

And if the wage of my sin is death, then this woman is going to get me killed.

Excerpt

“Kill me?” she whispers, her fingertips caressing my cheek. I want to push my body onto her, and feel her warmth against my skin one more time before I take her life and her body cools. I’m going to enjoy her. She’s dark and twisted.
I smile and bend down to get closer to her. Running my hand through her soft black hair I pet her, brushing her loose hairs away from her face. Fuck, I’m excited to play with her, hear her scream and watch her fear me. To quickly kill someone as pretty and smart as her would be a goddamn waste. Like breaking a toy before you got a chance to play with it, this needs to be done slowly.

“Oh no sweetheart, the fun is just about to start,” I threaten in a low whisper.

Something dark passes over her face, but she doesn’t break eye contact. It’s almost as if she sobers completely.

Suddenly a foot strikes me in the chest and I sail into the side of the van.

Michel’s Review

Illicit by M. N. Forgy is the fourth book in the Sin City Outlaws series.  Although this book is  a follow up of the aftermath of Retaliate, it can be read as a stand alone. I must warn readers there are graphic violent scenes and the author doesn’t sugar coat the outlaw biker life style.

The Sin City Outlaws are at war with the mafia, both factions want to rule Vegas.  Cross has betrayed the Sin City Outlaws and the mafia .  They both want to take him down.  One woman holds the key to getting to Cross and they have taken her prisoner after she tried to kill Alessandra.  Raven is their prisoner and they have put their most brutal enforcer in charge of getting answers.  Machete has no conscience and a deep need to hurt others.  He’s going to take great pleasure in breaking his beautiful prisoner.  What he didn’t count on was she was just as twisted and bent as he was.  She thrived on pain.  Together they are the perfect pair, a little bit crazy and a little bit sane.

The lines have been drawn and war has been waged.  Machete has to break Raven fast because time is running out.  The club whores are dying, the mafia wants their due, and Sin City Outlaws wants their city back.

M. N. Forgy once again wrote a very intense romance and proved that every person is capable of loving.  I can’t wait to see where this series leads.

Blurb

Being the Vice President of the Sin City Outlaws Motorcycle Club comes with its perks.

Respect, power, and easy women whenever I want. I have control in everything I do.

Because of that, I wasn’t expecting my president to put me on babysitting duty, and on a female cop of all fucking people. I kill law enforcement, not protect them.

Alessandra pretends to be the good-guy hiding behind that shiny badge. But I see the darkness dancing in her eyes, and it draws me to her in the worst way. I want to devour that act of innocence, pull her over the line of justice, and into my bed.

I just wasn’t expecting the handful of secrets I got behind that badge of honor I ripped from her chest. Because now, we’re retaliating against a common enemy together.
