The Wind Dragons MC by Chantal Fernando is becoming one of my favorite series. I devour each book the day it releases. I have been looking forward to Wolf’s Mate because it was Vinnie’s book. Vinnie was the young prospect we met in the very first book. He has been the designated protector of the Wind Dragon old ladies throughout the series. It’s time for Vinnie to get an old lady of his own.

Other than his interaction within the club and the old ladies, readers have not been introduced to the real Vinnie. Vinnie was brought up in the foster care system. He never had a family until he joined the Wind Dragons. They taught him loyalty, honor, love, and brotherhood. He would do anything for his family, including protecting a woman related to the Wild Men MC. He owes the president a marker. He is a man of honor and makes good to his word. He had been enlisted to protect Talon’s cousin, Shayla.

Shayla is hidden away and under twenty four hour protection. Her father was an accountant for the mob. He was arrested and is turning over vital information. He has damning evidence. His betrayal has left Shay in danger. There’s are mark on Shay. Shay wasn’t involved, she’s just collateral.

As the middle sibling in the powerful O’Malley clan, Cillian O’Malley has had it fairly easy. He doesn’t have the burden of taking over the reins of the family business from his father, and marrying him off to help ally them with one the other powerful crime families isn’t in the cards. Since the tragic death of his brother, Devlin, Cillian has been keeping his nose clean and learning more of his part as the numbers man for the far-reaching and varied O’Malley interests. The one woman that he can’t forget, though, is Olivia Rashidi. As the illegitimate daughter of one of the most powerful Russian syndicates, she knows all too well the reality of being part of a mob family, and wants no part of it for her daughter. Cillian, with his charm, his dark sex appeal, and his refusal to leave her alone, has all of her alarms going off, but darned if she can’t stay away.

I’m going to tell you that Katee can write a steamy scene like nobody’s dang business. The chemistry between Cillian and Olivia is off-the-charts hot, and Cillian can bring it. I mean, seriously, smoke might have been coming out of my e-reader at some points while I was reading this book. And, besides the intense physical attraction, these two just click in every way, smoothing out each others’ rough edges and creating a safe place for each other.

AN INDECENT PROPOSAL continues the complex and intense O’Malley saga, and does it very well. I was so invested in seeing how things played out for everyone that I literally could not put this one down. I love that Katee has created this intricate tapestry of the inter-mingling of the three big families that rule Boston, and bringing the Romanovs more fully into the thick of things really amped things up. Everyone is so very different, even coming from the same backgrounds, and I am really enjoying seeing each character’s story as it plays out. Sloan O’Malley has been a bit of a mystery throughout the series, and I am looking very forward to FORBIDDEN PROMISES, her story. AN INDECENT PROPOSAL is 4.5 hot, suspenseful, powerful stars of a thrill ride, and, as are all of Katee’s books, one that I happily recommend.

“Kennedy, do you mind sitting in the chair?” Max asks.

I turn to look at him and then focus on the chair. I can do this. After joining him up on stage, I take a seat.

Kneeling down in front of me, he smiles. “If you ever feel uncomfortable, all you have to do is say stop. We’re not going to do something you don’t want.”

“Okay.”

“Are you ready?” Closing my eyes, I nod. The lights dim but when I open my eyes, I can’t see the couch. The lights above have hidden them from sight, making it feel like I’m the only one in the room. Music starts to play and it’s no shock that “Pony” by Ginuwine is the song choice. It’s the perfect one to set the mood.

I can feel someone behind me and then their warm hands caressing my shoulders. The smell of his cologne drifts to my nose and I gasp. Is it the guy I talked to in the club? Heart racing, I wait for him to face me, but he stays behind me, his mouth so close to my ear.

“Are you ready, Kennedy?” he murmurs. I suck in a breath and freeze. It is him. He circles around me, his dark eyes full of heat. “Are you?” he repeats.

He moves closer, straddling my legs with his hard cock pressed between my breasts. Sliding lower, his body shields me from view as he settles between my thighs. His hand slides under my skirt and he smirks, knowing the others can’t see what he’s doing. What’s exciting is that I’m actually letting him do it. I want him to touch me. If the others weren’t in the room, there’s no telling what I’d allow him to do. My body craves a man’s touch.

The lights brighten and he slides off my body. Grabbing his robe, he puts it on and backs slowly away. “Until next time …”

Josie Savage’s story starts right where it left off in The Pre-Season.

Her arrival at Montgomery University is anything but quiet. Once again her father is stealing the limelight as she moves in. She wants her peers to see her as an individual rather than Joey Savage’s daughter. It doesn’t help that he bribes her roommates with new computers and threatens the guys outside her Campus Home.

Josie slowly begins to settle in. She has bonded with her roommates and it looks like freshman year is off to a great start. At her first college party she catches the attention of both quarterbacks, the starter- Mark Bishop and the backup -Runner Rarity. One is completely available and the biggest manwhore on campus, the other is taken by the meanest woman on campus. Both are super hot, but one makes her heart race. The one that is unavailable. One is a naturally talented athlete that doesn’t need football to succeed in the future and the other is an incredibly talented, hungry player waiting to take the field and make his future.

What starts out as friendship with both of these incredible guys turns into a love triangle that tests her friendships with her roommates, her reputation, and makes her a target for the meanest woman on campus.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a great introduction to a colorful, dynamic cast of characters that will play a huge role in this series. It showcased exactly how college is in the freshman year, as well as the importance of college sports. It also showcased family dynamics and how those relationships can mold our lives.

We have all read books about the underworlds of organized crime. Their organizations and violent interactions span the old world as well as their new world in the U.S. The first two books lay most of the ground work for the Ravage story.

He vowed to take care of his sister and would do anything to keep her alive. He became 194, the most ruthless and highly trained assassin in the Night Wraith army. His mistress was on a mission of vengeance after her lover was killed by 221, Zaal Kostava, the Georgian heir. Using his sister as collateral motivates 194 to become a killing machine he was trained and drugged to be. He is no longer a human being. He is a brutal and murdering monster.

Wow! Sawyer Bennett has taken over the dark, erotic thriller genre. Sugar Rush is the second novel in the dark Sugar Bowl series. This novel wove an even more tangled web.

One of the things I have noticed in most trilogies is the second novel is more of a filler to the overall story. There is usually very little progression in the plot. The readers get a recap of the first novel, the backstory of the characters, and more development in the romantic relationship. Sugar Rush had all of these characteristics but also added something more. It added real “MEAT” to the story. The plot progressed and changed coarse. The intended outcome was the same, to destroy Jonathan Townsend. The new twisted directions turned the tables and may have changed who had the upper hand.

I could not put this book down and when I finished I was flabbergasted. I cannot predict what is going to happen next.

I’ve quickly come to realize that anything by Penelope Ward is going to be an exceptional read. I have loved her previous books and the novels she has co authored with Vi Keeland. The one thing that keeps drawing me back for more is her creation of unforgettable characters and a love story that is not a cookie cutter romance. A story that dances on the edge of the rules in romance 101 with the absolute no no’s. She boldly adds taboo elements such as cheating boyfriends, sibling (step sibling) relationships, vindictive enemies, and douchebag personalities and makes the reader clearly see there are two sides to any story. Things are not always as they appear on the surface and matters of the heart are a different story altogether. Dearest Neighbor is the other side of the story briefly told in Stepbrother Dearest. It turns the tables on our “beloved” Elec from Stepbrother Dearest. The guy readers fell hopelessly in love with doesn’t look so great from other points of view. And that’s okay because it’s time for a new hero, Damien Hennessey to takeover and dominate our hearts. Only a writer like Penelope Ward could deliver up a new tasty dish making us forget about the delicious appetizer that came before hand.

Chelsea is still reeling from the devastating heartbreak that Elec delivered a year ago when he broke off their engagement to reunite with his stepsister. She thought they had the perfect relationship. She thought he loved her. She can’t figure out what she did wrong that made him dump her for Greta. She just can’t seem to get over him.

Finally, finally, it’s here. After author Kennedy Ryan blew me away with the first two books in her Soul series, leaving me yearning for more of Kai and Rhyson, for a look at what happens after the happily ever after, she has brought it, and in a completely captivating, completely satisfying way.

Picking up shortly after DOWN TO MY SOUL, REFRAIN continues the story of Kai and Rhys, as they find a way to marry their personal and professional lives in a way that is perfect for them as a couple. This book is written very richly and viscerally, delivering a depth of emotion and so much feeling that I felt like I was right there in the book, watching everything play out. That Rhys and Kai are truly meant to be together, that they truly do love each other down to their souls, comes through loud and clear. I found myself completely immersed in the story, and, oh, so glad that Kennedy decided that she needed to give us this book.

This book packs as powerful a punch as the previous two, and comes complete with plenty of angst, suspense, drama, heat (oh, my word, the hotness of these two!!), and a love so deep that it consumes. I honestly could not put it down until the final page, and, while it satisfied all of my questions and made me so happy, I could keep reading about these two forever. 5+ absolutely over the moon stars for REFRAIN. As I’ve said before, this is a MUST-READ series, and I highly recommend that you add each book to your TBR and get started. And, a happy note, Grip is getting his book, too, and I cannot WAIT. Get these books, clear your calendar, and settle in, because they will consume you.

SUPERSONIC HEARING

My little sister is such a drama queen. Literally. Jade is an actress on Broadway.

She clapped her hands together, applauding the students who’d just bravely put themselves out there to try out for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. “You all did such a great job today! Tomorrow we cast the roles and start our first rehearsal. This is gonna be epic!”

Jade had come out to the Bay Area to visit our family for the week and offered to volunteer at the youth center where I worked. Since there wasn’t enough time to produce an entire play, Jade decided to direct the kids in one key scene from the musical that would be performed later in the week.

I loved my job as director of the arts at the Mission Youth Center. It was just about the only thing going right in my life. The only downside was the fact that these walls were haunted by memories of my ex, Elec, who used to be a youth counselor here. That was how we met. He’d loved his job, too, until he quit so that he could move to New York after we broke up. He moved to be with her. I shook my head to shoo away thoughts of him and Greta.

Jade grabbed her purse. “I need to go back to your place to use the bathroom and have a quick bite.”

I’d just moved into a new apartment that was only a few blocks away from my job. The lease had finally run out on the place I’d been renting with Elec across town. Even though my ex sent me his half of the rent for the remainder of our lease after he’d moved out, I couldn’t wait to vacate that place; every corner of it reminded me of him and of the miserable months that followed our break up.

My place was right in the south central section of the Mission District. I loved the culture in my new neighborhood. Produce bins and a variety of cafes lined the streets. It was also a mecca for Latin culture, which was great, except for the fact that it reminded me of Elec, who was half Ecuadorian. Little reminders of the guy who broke my heart were everywhere.

Jade and I strolled down the sidewalk, stopping at a fruit stand so that she could buy some papayas for an afternoon smoothie she planned to make back at my apartment. We also ended up getting two coffees to go.

I bent back the opening on my coffee lid as we walked. “So, little sis, I never thought we would be in the same predicament at the same time.”

Jade had recently been dumped by her musician boyfriend.

“Yes. But the difference is, I feel like I have way more distractions in my life than you do. It’s not that I don’t think about Justin. It’s not that I don’t get sad, but my performances keep me so busy that it’s almost like I don’t have time to wallow in it, you know?”

“I told you I’ve been doing these phone therapy sessions, right?”

Jade took a sip then shook her head. “No.”

“Yeah. I found this psychologist who specializes in trauma from failed relationships, but she’s in Canada. Anyway, we do phone sessions one night a week.”

“Is it helping?”

“It always helps to talk things out.”

“Yeah. But no offense, you don’t seem any better for it. Anyway, you can talk things out with Claire or me. You don’t need to pay big bucks to talk to a stranger.”

“Nighttime is really my only time to talk to anyone. You’re performing at night, and Claire is too wrapped up in being a blissful newlywed. Besides, she’s never had her heart broken. She listens, but she doesn’t get it.”

Our older sister, Claire, married her high school sweetheart. Even though the three of us were close growing up in nearby Sausalito, I’d always felt more comfortable opening up to Jade.

When we arrived at my building, my sister stopped to sit on one of the benches in the corner of the fenced-in courtyard. “Let’s sit for a bit, finish our coffees.” Her gaze wandered across the grass to my shirtless neighbor. “Okay…who’s the hottie in the beanie defacing the property?”

“What is it with you and beanies?”

“Justin used to wear one. That’s why I love them. Isn’t that sad?”

“That is sad.”

“This from the girl who still sleeps in her ex’s shirt.”

“It’s comfortable. It has nothing to do with Elec,” I lied. It was the one thing I allowed myself from him. It made me sad, but I wore it anyway.

“So…who is that guy?”

I didn’t know my neighbor’s name, but I’d see him once in a while doing spray paint art along the wrap-around concrete wall that surrounded the property. It served as a vast canvas. His spray painting was true art, definitely not what would be considered simple graffiti. It was an elaborate mix of celestial and geographical images. This guy just kept adding different artwork to the wall gradually. It was a work in progress. I could only assume he planned to paint the entire circumference of the property, as much as the wall space would allow.

“He lives in the building, next door to me, actually.”

“What is he doing? They allow him to do that here?”

“I don’t know. The first time I saw him out here, I thought he was vandalizing the property. But no one seems to care or stop him. Every day, he adds to the mural. It’s actually quite beautiful. But it doesn’t match his personality.”

Jade blew on her coffee. “What do you mean?”

“He’s not very nice.”

“You’ve talked to him?”

“No. He’s just not friendly. I’ve tried to make eye contact, but he walks right by me. He has these two big dogs, and they’re pretty mean. They bark all of the time. He walks them every morning.”

“Maybe he’s like a savant. You know, really good with art. Or maybe he’s a genius but with limited social skills. What do they call that…Asperger’s?”

“No. He communicates just fine. I’ve seen him yelling at a few people. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t have that. This guy is just not friendly. He doesn’t have Asperger’s. He’s just an ass.”

Jade chuckled. “I think you should totally stop by his place with some warm muffins wrapped up in a basket. It’s the neighborly thing to do. Maybe he’ll loosen up…or loosen you up.”

“Muffins, huh? What’s that code for?”

“Muff…muffins. Same thing. If I lived here, I’d be all over that. But I don’t live here. You do. And you totally need a distraction. I say…he’s it.”

I admired the guy’s broad shoulders and tanned muscular back as his arm moved the spray can up and down. “God, doesn’t he remind you of Elec, though? Arm tattoo…dark hair. Artistic. Basically, that’s the last type of guy I’m going for at this point.”

“So, if someone looks like or seems similar to Elec, then they’re automatically disqualified? They’re destined to do the same thing Elec did? Is that how you think? That’s just stupid rationale.”

“Maybe that’s fucked-up. But the last thing I want is to be with someone who reminds me of him in the least.”

“Well, that’s a shame, because Elec was freaking hot, and this guy…is even hotter.”

“Can you remind me why we’re discussing this? The dude doesn’t even say hello to me. He’s not signing up to be on this delusional version of The Bachelorette. He’s not interested.”

Neighbor Dearest suddenly wiped the sweat from his forehead, took off the mask covering his nose and mouth, and dumped the spray cans into a black drawstring sack. He slung it over his shoulder and just when I thought he was going to walk away and out of the courtyard, he began to walk in our direction. Jade straightened in her seat, and I hated that my pulse raced a bit.

His eyes were focused on me. I wouldn’t call it an angry stare, but he wasn’t smiling. The sunlight beamed directly into his blue eyes, which glowed and really stood out against his tan skin. Jade was right; this guy was truly gorgeous.

“Blueberry are my favorite,” he said.

“What?”

“Muffins.”

“Oh.”

Jade snorted but stayed silent, letting me take the brunt of this humiliation.

“And I’m not anti-social or a savant. I’m just a good old-fashioned prick…with supersonic hearing.”

He smirked and walked away before I could say anything.

When he was safely out of earshot—for real this time—Jade sighed. “Angry guys are the best in bed.”

“You just can’t stop yourself, can you? Haven’t you done enough damage? I’ve always told you that you’re loud when you think you’re whispering. Now there’s proof…at my expense.”

“You’ll be thanking me later when you’re screaming out in orgasm as the angry artist is Van Goh-ing down on you.”

“You’re crazy.”

“That’s why you love me.”

“It is.”

~Franka~

“You need to leave,” I declared.

His brows drew together a moment before his expression showed clearly that comprehension had dawned.

Sadly, comprehension might have dawned but he didn’t leave.

He crouched by the bed and offered in a soft voice, “You need me to carry you to the other room so you can have a bit of privacy?”

Dear goddess.

He thought I needed a chamber pot.

But…

What was happening to my face?

Dear goddess!

The heat I felt in my cheeks could be nothing other than me blushing.

I didn’t blush. I’d never blushed. Not even when I’d set about seducing my first lover at age sixteen.

I needed to be quit of this man as soon as possible.

“No…I…do…not,” I bit out.

“Sure?” he asked kindly.

“I need you to leave, Noctorno,” I used his full name in an effort to irritate, something that worked if the flare in his eyes was any indication, “so Josette can prepare me. We’re away to Kristian’s this morning.”

Another drawing of his brows before he asked, “What?”

“After my toilette, Josette and I are to my sleigh so we can begin our journey to my brother’s home.”

His eyes got bigger as his mouth inquired peculiarly, “Are you high?”

“No,” I answered his ridiculous question unnecessarily, “Indeed, I’m low. As you can see since I’m lying abed.”

For a second he just stared at me.

Then he threw his head back and burst into loud, deep, beautiful laughter.

I wanted to throw something at him.

Unfortunately, in my current position, this was not an option open to me.

“I fail to see what’s amusing,” I noted.

He controlled his mirth only to mutter, “I’ll explain it later.” He went on more distinctly, “Frannie, you’re not goin’ to your brother’s today. Or tomorrow. Or until you’re fit. Then, maybe Valentine will spirit you there, or whatever the fuck that’s called. But for the foreseeable future, your ass is in that bed and you’re resting so you can heal.”

Well!

Who did he think he was, telling me what I would or would not do?

“As you’ve determined,” I began, “this is not the first time I’ve been in this condition so I do believe that I know best what I’m capable of and…”

I stopped speaking because he came slightly out of his crouch so he could put his face into my face and he was no longer looking mirthful.

He was looking angry.

Very angry.

“That was when you had no one lookin’ out for you but that’s not the case anymore. So this is how it’s gonna be,” he announced.

He then, to my shock, irritation and outrage, announced how it was going to be.

Like he had the right to tell me how it was going to be!

Michel’s Review

Every summer I make it a goal to read a few series that I haven’t had time to get to. One of those series was the Fantasyland Series by Kristen Ashley. Although I am a huge Kristen Ashley fan, I am not really into fantasy romance. I have to be in the “mood” to read this type of book. Summer was the perfect time for me to dive into this series and give it my full attention. Once again Kristen Ashley wowed me with her vivid imagination, her sexy alpha men, quirky capable women, sizzling hot romance with a touch of humor, and an entertaining story. The Fantasyland Series had a bonus, it had a special blend of magic and mystique in two parallel worlds.

Midnight Soul should not be read as a stand alone in this series. It is the grand finale.

As I have said many times before, Kristen Ashley is the bomb! Once again she has taken a character that readers disliked and turned their hearts. Kristen Ashley gave Franka Drakkar a complete makeover. Readers got a glimpse into the real woman beneath the facade. A woman with vulnerabilities,extreme loyalties, monumental insecurities,and a big heart waiting to be given. Only a man like Noctorno Hawthorne could see beneath the surface and see the beautifull soul buried deep within.

After the mega showdown and resolutions, Franka is in a different place. She is transitioning into a new life with the possibilities of new friendships, relationships, and life experiences. She’s a bit lost because her life has completely changed and she’s not on solid footing. Noc can see her internal struggles and offers friendship. He introduces her to his world, the modern parallel world that leaves her with wonder and curiosity.

This newly found friendship leads Franka on a new adventure, an adventure of the heart. Together Noc and Franka are going to discover the best of both worlds and the true meaning of happily ever after.

As most Kristen Ashley fans know, Kristen is the queen of happily ever afters that are told through epic epilogues.

I am happy that I opened my mind and embraced the Fantasyland series. It was a reading adventure with Kristen Ashley magic.

I highly recommend the Fantasyland Series.
